Thesis Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Thesis Essay" can be quite challenging, as it demands a
nuanced understanding of the intricacies involved in developing a thesis statement. The
difficulty lies not only in comprehending the underlying concepts but also in effectively
articulating a clear and compelling argument. This type of essay requires a deep dive into
research, critical analysis, and the synthesis of ideas, making it a time-consuming and
intellectually demanding task.
To begin with, formulating a strong thesis statement necessitates a thorough exploration of the
chosen topic. This involves delving into academic sources, journals, and scholarly articles to
gather relevant information. The challenge is to sift through the vast sea of literature and discern
the key arguments and counterarguments that contribute to the discourse surrounding the chosen
thesis.
Once the research phase is complete, the next hurdle is structuring the essay coherently.
Organizing thoughts in a logical progression, presenting evidence to support the thesis, and
addressing potential counterarguments are essential elements. Achieving this seamlessly requires
not only a grasp of the subject matter but also a keen awareness of the nuances that differentiate
a well-constructed argument from a disjointed one.
Furthermore, writing a thesis essay involves a refined use of language and a mastery of
academic writing conventions. Clarity, conciseness, and precision are paramount. Striking the
right balance between presenting complex ideas and maintaining accessibility for the reader can
be a daunting task.
In addition to these challenges, there is the constant pressure to contribute original insights to the
academic discourse. Simply summarizing existing knowledge is not enough; the essay must offer
a unique perspective or contribute fresh ideas to the ongoing conversation.
In conclusion, tackling a thesis essay requires a combination of research skills, critical thinking,
and eloquent expression. It is a task that demands time, dedication, and a willingness to engage
deeply with the subject matter. While the difficulty may seem daunting, overcoming these
challenges can result in a gratifying intellectual accomplishment.

A Clean Well-Lighted Place Symbolism
In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway uses light and dark imagery
along with a young vs. old motif to demonstrate that life has no meaning. The story
is about a deaf old man who sits in a cafe every night and gets drunk and the
waiters that must serve him. One waiter is young and arrogant while the other is a
little older and is more humble and understanding of others. Throughout the story
the waiters converse back and forth about what should be done about this drunk
old man as it gets later and later in the night. The cafe is used as a place for those
seeking quiet and the light instead of the loud dark bars. The light is an escape from
the nothingness of the world. In this story, it seems that we can only see places that are

What does this Hemingway story have to do with anything in our lives? We aren t
waiters or an old men so why should we care. This story exposes a sad and hopeless
viewpoint on life so why should we read it? I believe that this story is a wake up
call. It reminds me to enjoy every moment of my life and to not rush through my
everyday endeavors. We shouldn t live our lives like they are jobs and thinking
with a have to attitude. Like my football coach, Coach Lavorato says, live your life
with a get to attitude not a have to attitude. The waiter gets to get up every morning
and go to work. He gets to go home to his wife. This can be applied to our lives as
well. For example, I get to go to a extraordinary school everyday. I get to go to
football practice everyday. I get to see my friends and family everyday. I get to do
homework every night. I think Hemingway s message is that he wants us to be
inspired by this story and to savor every moment of our lives. Don t be fooled by the
rush and timetables of life, take things slow and enjoy your Clean, Well Lighted

My Work Experience Paper
On corporate culture
Over the past 10 years my work experience has been focused on IT work both from a
technical standpoint and as a leadership role. While not dealing with pressures public
companies face in terms of financials, there are parallels that can be drawn to how IT
practices are done. Information Technology, as well as in many other professions,
there is always the constant pressure to meet objectives quickly as possible to meet
internal and external customer demands. In these moments opportunities present
themselves to make the shortcuts in those tasks to not meet your responsibilities.

Ecological Footprint Quiz
When I read that the average American consumes 35 times more resources than the
average citizen of India I feel; helpless (d) and guilty (e). Helpless because,
although one person can make a difference, it becomes discouraging when your
neighbors and/or community do/does not offer services (green/solar energy) or
practice the same habits (recycling). So I feel helpless as if at times my efforts are
futile. And guilty because after this week s ecological footprint quiz I see I am also
part of the problem.
How I feel when I read that human activities are projected to make the earth s climate
warmer are; sad (c), concerned (f). Sad because of the effect climate change has on
both species and ecosystems. The species of earth require the right temperatures,
fresh water and food sources to survive (National Wildlife Federation, 2016).
Knowing our activities have such a catastrophic effect on the earth and the impending
destruction of its habitats and species is disheartening. Concerned because I do not

These feelings lead to a lack of responsibility, similar to helplessness; in the thinking
of how much of a difference can one person make, and if my neighbor is not doing it
why should I? Skeptical thinking dismisses the thought that there is a problem at all;
indifference may recognize the problem, but does nothing about it. These mindsets or
feelings are destructive and ultimately contribute to the decline of the environmental
sustainability.
Concerned, outraged, sad, and guilty, in my opinion are the feelings that will help
alleviate these problems. Educating and raising awareness about the problems
affecting the planets resources will generate these feelings, in turn, initiating action
and motivation to make the necessary lifestyle changes to contribute to green living

City Of Boston, Massachusetts Essay
City of Boston, Massachusetts
The major cities of the United States are all very interesting, after I analyzed my
decision; I decided to research the great city of Boston, Massachusetts. Boston was
founded on September 17, 1630 and has a rich historical background making it a very
important city in the United States. The city of Boston was the home to several
important events during the American Revolution such as: the Boston Massacre,
Boston Tea Party, the Siege of Boston, Battle of Lexington and Concord, and the
Battle of Bunker Hill. (Snow, Caleb H. (1828). History of Boston. Abel Bowen.)
These were all significant events that helped shape the city Boston has become

In the eighties the city experienced a twelve percent drop in population growth, and
from the nineties until now, they have maintained an average of a two percent
population increase each ten years (www.cityofboston.gov, 2008) Its economy is
greatly impacted by the universities and colleges in the city, it has over 100
universities and colleges in the Greater Boston area. Tourism is a huge part of its
successful economy, in 2004 tourists spent $7.9 billion and made the city one of
the ten most popular tourist locations in the country. (Boston: Economy. Thomson
Gale (Thomson Corporation) 2006.) Boston is located in Suffolk County and is
by Cambridge which is the home of Harvard College. It is home to Fenway Park
where baseball s Boston Red Sox play (Baseball is a big part of life in Boston),
New England is right around the corner, Home of the New England Patriots football

hockey team. Boston is a very sports oriented city and it plays a big part of their
heritage. Also many of their sports teams have a reputation of winning, so that
encourages the fans for these teams to continue their support for them. One other
major sports event in general to note is the Boston Marathon, one of the most
publicized marathons, which is ran annually. In the heart of Boston it has many
major historical monuments and buildings to give it even more to offer as a city. It

The Equal Pay Act Of 1963 Essay
A. Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an integral part on JetBlue s behalf showing they go
above and beyond to ensure proper pay. Pay was specifically structured for each
position. Some pay structures even had multiple options with contracts designated
to improve loyalty. EPA of 1967 was passed to deter gender equality in pay. JetBlue
utilize their value to evaluate performance for pay incentives and tailored each pay
grades to the job detail. Civil Rights Act of 1866 was created to cease racial
inequality. With values such as caring and integrity JetBlue has distinguish
themselves as pioneer in diversity. The way they care for each employee to both
retain their high ratings and prevent unions from forming have been the key to their
success. Having senior managements from different regions of the nation has given
voice to the different views of operation. The different views have created a
harmonized approach for all contracts of employment. Sustained with regular
meetings to understand underlying conflicts and recognize what is important for
each individual employee no matter white or minority. The way employees view
their pay is in most case how they are viewed they are treated. JetBlue recognizes that
great happy employees are the main reason for success. Comparable worth sometimes
distinguish the responsibility of each job. Comparable worth is an extension of the
Equal Pay Act and requires that the responsibilities and intellectual analysis is
considered when negotiating pay.

Microcosm In Run Lola Run
The film Run Lola Run By Tom Tykwer skillfully demonstrates how texts use the
distinctively visual to explore the human experience by elucidating time as a

through the opening scene where the audience is introduced to the protagonist Lola.
Her journey is characterized as a manifestation of the microcosm in her race against

Did the Nationalists win the Spanish Civil War because of their strengths or the
weaknesses of the Republicans? The evidence that supports the idea that the
Nationalists won the Spanish Civil War because of their strength is abundant. The
unity of the Nationalists was obvious and meant that there was both great
organisation and co ordination, meaning there was no ambiguity in the goals set by
those fighting for the Nationalists. Franco s plans for a long term war meant that he
was able to ensure the defeat of the Republic by slowly squeezing the life out of the
Republic war effort, which already was heavily reliant on Soviet aid, by securing
Republican strong holds throughout Spain. The contrasting lack of unity on the

This crisis was a turning point for the Republic which saw the influence of the
Communists vastly increase. The main political casualty of the May Days was
Largo Cabellero, who had always been opposed to the Communist interference,
especially when it had been influenced so heavily by Stalin and the USSR. So great
was his hatred of the Communist interference that he once famously sent out the
Soviet Ambassador, Rosenberg, from a Cabinet meeting as he tried to impose the
will of the Soviets in January 1937. After the events of the May Days Cabellero
had little choice but to resign, and give way to Negrin, who some historians argue
was a mere pawn of the wishes of the Communists. Even if this was the case, the
Republic became more unified under Negrin, even if the underlying ideological
differences still existed. With Communist influence in the government, Stalin was
still willing to send the aid that was essential to the survival of the republic, while
the Popular Army also emerged from the fighting in Barcelona as it was finally
accepted a well trained force was needed; no longer could the Republic rely on the
scrappy little militias to fend off the advances of the Nationalist forces. Although this
move was damaging for the morale of many revolutionaries it was a necessary step
that could not be put off much longer.. As a result of this, it could be argued
Gilded Age Hero
The world is constantly evolving. Time periods come and go, but certain ones stay

that made a very large impact on our world today. The Gilded Age is the period in
American history from around 1870 1900 s where the United States population and
economy grew quickly in a short amount of time causing extensive amounts of slave
work and wealthy individuals to live pretentious lifestyles. During this period, John

Rockefeller was in fact a villain, he is also thought of as a hero to the Gilded Age
because of the few good acts he did. During the Gilded Age, oil was very expensive
and difficult to acquire.Overall, only the wealthy and well privileged had much
access to it, but Standard Oil developed the world s largest oil refineries and drove
down the cost of refining oil, (World Book, Rockefeller). With Rockefeller as the
head of the company, he was able to expand access of oil to those who didn t have
as much money and produce large amounts of oil for little cost. With his new ideas
and methods, he was able to cut down oil cost and produce more of it more
efficiently and quicker than that of the past. Due to becoming one of the wealthiest
individuals in the United States, Rockefeller had a substantial amount of money and
He gave away about $540 million during his lifetime. He gave most of his money to
the public through foundations he established himself and through other
organizations, (World Book, Rockefeller). These other foundations, which were
mainly universities, highly profited and grew off of these generous donations from
Rockefeller. They are still functioning today and Rockefellers impact on them has
never been forgotten. As a result, John D. Rockefeller was thought of to be a hero
rather than a villain. Besides all this good he may have done, his selfish acts can t go
unseen and unnoticed from his action.
John D Rockefeller lived a higher, better life than almost every American during this
time age. He also obtained an extravagant amount of power through his work and
company. His good deeds were overruled by his many bad deeds therefore making
him a villain rather than a hero.
How Of Read And Read Music
How To Read Music Today, I ll be going on over how to read music. It s a
completely different concept from anything you ve ever learned. It does look like
a blur of lines at first, but soon you ll be able to get the hang of it and create music
yourself beautifully. First off, there s this thing called the staff. It s composed of
five parallel lines and four spaces in between. There s two of them for different
pitches. Each line and space stands for a note. Each line and space stands for a
note. In the higher pitches, the treble, from bottom up, the line notes are E, G, B,
D, and F, commonly memorized by the acronym Every Good Boy Does Fine . The
space notes from bottom up are F, A, C, and E, spelling the word face. In bass, the line
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Would it really be a surprise if I told you the treble clef is also called the G clef?
The treble clef is in a pretty high or moderate ish pitch. The bass clef is also called
an F clef. Now, it looks nothing like an F, but it curls on an F line. Since it s bass, it
s pitch is deeper and lower than treble. Music is divided into measures. These are
signified by bars going perpendicular to the staff lines. Exactly how long the
measures are, well that depends on the time signature. Time signatures are placed
at the beginning of the staff, but after either of the clefs. Time signatures are two
numbers stacked on top of each other. The top note tells how many beats are in a
measure, and the bottom note tells the note value for a single beat. Okay, note
time! The notes are the actual music; what you hear. Notes have heads, which are
circles. The heads are placed on the staff and exactly where they re placed is
indicates what pitch it plays. So, if a note head is placed on the treble staff, on the
first line, E, then that would be an E note. Everything about the actual note and not
where it s placed signifies the duration and length of the note. If the note is filled
in, it s held for one count. That s called a quarter note. If it s empty, it s held for
two counts and called a half note. If it doesn t have a stem, a line sticking out either
above or below it, and it s empty, then it s held for four counts. That s a whole note.

Caravaggio, Death of St. Matthew Essay
Caravaggio, Death of St. Matthew
Michelangelo de Caravaggio is one of the most renowned and popular artists of the
Baroque Period. In fact, many paintings from this period, as well as after have been
described as Caravagesque. Caravaggio s works are some of the most popular in
Italy, as well as around the world, and have been put into there own stylistic group. In
his painting, the Martyrdom of St. Matthew, there contains certain characteristics that
make the painting easily recognizable to a connoisseur of fine paintings. This paper
will discuss some background of this artist s life, the content of the work, some ideas
that it portrays and contains, and a visual description of the painting. Michelangelo

When he heard these words, the king was consumed with rage, and went out of the
church. After the Mass, the king sent a swordsman, who came behind Matthew as he
stood at the altar with his hands raised to Heaven in prayer, drove a sword into his
back, and consummated the apostle s martyrdom (death). This story was not written
into the Bible, since the Gospels were written before Matthew traveled to Ethiopia as
a missionary. That being the case, the story is recounted from the book the Golden
Legend.
Another characteristic of Caravaggio s work was his use of light and dark. The
Death of St. Matthew is dark overall, with a mysterious light source that eliminates
the actual death of the Saint. This mysterious glow brings a religious feel to the
painting and along with that gives the story a more powerful expression. Shadows
and space are used very carefully to give a sense of immediacy to the scene. The
figures around the murder all seem to be backing away from the action in different
ways, which helps centralize the important part of the scene. This use of geometric
placing of objects shows that he has not totally gotten away from earlier classical
artistic methods.
This painting also contains natural looking figures and objects, which help give
some realism to the story. Grimaces on the face of Matthew, as well as the
swordsman, and onlookers depict the reality of experiencing such a terrible
occurrence. Flesh is
Influence Of Music Media
Music Media Preferences for Different Generations
Music media has drastically changed over time due to technology and cultural
shifts. Although it s not common for people to use old forms of media today, some
people still prefer to use products such as vinyl records over modern forms of
media. To begin with, the first form of music media goes back all the way to the
phonograph which was made by Thomas Edison in 1877. Later the graphophone
and gramophone were introduced as innovations of the phonograph. In the western
world, someone who would be my grandparents age would use the gramophone to
listen to classical music, which was popular in that time period. Records for
gramophones would be made out of glass and people would listen as the arm read
the rhythm of the music. My grandparents did not use gramophones as often as
people did in the North America because in South Asia it was more common to
listen to music through live performances instead of records. However, my
grandparents often listened to music through the radio or television and through
Bollywood movies. Moving forward, after WW2 when plastic records became
extremely popular in North America many teenagers who are now baby boomers
used this form of music media to listen to music. The baby boomer generation was
well known for listening to rock and roll music through record players. Later on, in
the 70 s, cassette players were introduced which made it very easy to listen to music
as you can listen to one song and
Origin Of Creation Myths
I have learned from the textbook that there are essentially two different ways that
people have sought to understand their origins. The first has to with storytelling in
the creation (or origin) myths. These myths are explanations of how a group of
people decided their moral principles that allowed them to establish a set of rules for
their relationships with each other, nature, and the supernatural world. The
explanation of how these relationships worked and came to be further created distinct
cultural and societal structures that each member of that community would follow
and share. One of the creation myths I cam across while reading about Mesopotamia
was that of the Babylonian people who believed that humankind had been created

Effective Malaria Treatment Is Fraught With Challenges
Effective malaria treatment is fraught with challenges. Resistance is seemingly
around the corner for every previously superlative drug, while being deeply
entrenched among those medications that a few decades ago were vital to
chemotherapy. For artemisinin, the first signs of resistance were observed in a
2008 study of parasite clearance times following monotherapy with artesunate.
Clearance was slower among patients from the Eastern Thai Cambodian border
than that of patients from the Thai Myanmar border to the West (Dondorp et al.,
2009). Though an alarming fact on its own, when coupled with the proportional
increase of such slow clearing infections from 0.6% in 2001 to 20% in 2010 with
rates approaching 42% in Cambodia one must conclude that there is cause for alarm
(Flannery et al., 2013). Resistance is not only emerging but also spreading. Now
more than ever we have need of new medicines as well as new approaches for
producing those medicines. The link to plant physiology among Plasmodiumspp. is
basically irrefutable and imperatively needs further investigating. By elucidating
essential biosynthetic pathways behind such compounds like abscisic acid, we can
find hitherto unknown targets as well as broaden our knowledge of the evasion
mechanisms that are at the disposal of our protozoan foes. Evasion is the primary
response of malariain response to the immune systems efforts and this tactic appears
to have been extended to one of the most powerful drugs we have.
Subtopics About The Brain
Did you know that your brain weighs around 3 pounds and it s 2% of your body s
weight? The brain is an organ that collects data. The brain is separated into halves
into left and right hemispheres. It can collect data from sensory organs and nerve
cells. In this essay, you ll learn about 3 subtopics about the brain: how does the brain
work, what are the lobes of the brain, and what do the left and right hemispheres do?
There are many ways how the brain works. The main way is the brain collects data
from sensory organs and nerve cells, but that s not all. The main structure of the brain
is the cerebrum. There are two parts: the left hemisphere and the right hemisphere.
Two structures called the thalamus and the hypothalamus deal with pain, hormones,

the center of the brain is the cerebral cortex, which it deals with big tasks, such as

Social Construction And Its Dynamic Effect On Power
In contemporary society, there are two schools of thought in regards to power:
power as stuff and power as relational . James Arvanitakis explores the significance
of power, inequality, and the numerous complex facets of modern society. This
includes the emergence of uneven power relationships and the supremacy of
particular groups in society. Hence, the idea of social construction and its dynamic
effect on power as stuff and relational . The work of philosopher Michel Foucault in
regards to social power and disparity attempts to uncover the fundamental cause of
these uneven power relationships in contemporary civilisation. This in turn,
portrayed Foucault as a controversial figure in relation to his intricate concepts of
power and on the subject of modernity. We need multiple viewpoints to interpret a
reality made up of many realities . The text Contemporary Society by James
Arvanitakis denotes conceptions of power as capacity . This refers to the power that
individuals, groups or institutions may possess. Hence, the perception of power as
stuff . This shows that power as capacity is something measurable and regarded as a

Analysis Of The Piece, No Name Woman By Maxine Hong
Kingston
The role of the woman has said to serve a humble and very significant aspect in
tradition and ritualistic beliefs in Chinese culture in pre modern times. Traditionally,
woman were to stay loyal to the man they were married to and were required, by
custom, to stay in the household of the in laws as a sign of respect to the family. We
consider the words loyalty, respect, and submission a numerous amount of times
when analyzing the women s role and how it pertains to Chinese culture when we
read about it in articles, newspapers, and novels. In the piece, No Name Woman,
Maxine Hong Kingstoninsists on clarifying the ignorant notion that women were
always acquiescent to the word of the man. Kingston reflects on her adolescent
fascination about the aunt she never knew by engaging in heavy discussion to
examine the for that not all women shared those values. Using the story of a
speculated aunt that the narrator was told she had by her mother, Kingston asserts
that even if the story of her aunt may not be factual, the message of the piece is to
communicate that women were both obedient and strictly submissive in Chinese
culture.
The characterization of the female roles in the text is used to assert that the narrator
not only possesses a compliant behavior toward her father, but also engages in
defiant acts to analyze the similarities between her and her speculated aunt. In the
piece, Kingston describes how the aunt was oppressed by social obligations of being
a woman, where as

In America, simply having a job is not enough. Nowadays, jobs are hard to find and

Why Do Circuses Survive If Animals Should Be Banned
VII.Will Circuses Survive If Elephants Are Banned?
A. The Show Will Go On
Many circuses have dropped animal shows from circus programs, to model
choreographed shows such as Cirque de Soleil. But, some companies as Ringling,
Universoul and Carson Barnes continue to use elephants. Ballet and live theatre is
another phenomenal that circuses are changing to retain diversity in the
entertainment market. The most popular of these shows, Cirque du Soleil, describes
itself as based on a totally new concept: a striking, dramatic mix of the circus arts,
street entertainment, featuring wild, outrageous costumes, staged under magical
lights and set to original music. With not a single animal in the ring . . . . Several

Some have already taken the step of dropping elephants from their show, while
others, have changed their strategies to focus less on animals but humans. In 2004,
the Cole Bros. circus, a one hundred twenty one year traveling show, eliminated the
use of elephants and other wild animals, during performances. The show focuses on
acrobats, a high wire motorcycle team and performers dressed as comic book movie

In 2005, the Moscow State Circus purchased the rights to the name of Circus Vargas.

How Immigrants Have Been Treated Over The History Of
Canada
Throughout this course, the focus has been on how Immigrants have been treated
over the history of Canada and the phases in which events and settlements began. Abu
Laban states Substantive citizenship involves pressing issues relating to equality of
rights and opportunities; treatment and life condition; and, not least, participatory
involvement that ought to come from holding formal citizenship...In short, being a
citizen is no guarantee of equality; real equality is hampered by inequalities resulting
from membership in stigmatized and minoritized groups. Within this paper I will
discuss how this quote relates and argues the four phases of Canadian Immigration
that were taught within this course. Phase One of Canadian Immigration, pre 1901,
included high British and French populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite
settlements, High Asian concentration on the west coast and the Immigration Act of
1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962. In comparison to
Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to
allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase
helped improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was
little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie
settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision
allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race deemed

Abstract
Abortion is the Answer: The Debate of Legalizing Abortion
When did abortion become legal? In the mid nineteenth century in the United States,
abortion was not allowed to any women only if they had a permission from a
doctor stating that giving birth has a risk on their life. In nineteen sixty, a
movement was made to legalize abortion which consisted of feminist groups; which
they viewed abortion ban laws as opposing women s rights that consisted of their
career and social life (Siegel, 2014). According to Levine et al. (1996, as citied in

Photography In Malcolm Browne s The Burning Monk
Since the invention of photography back in the nineteenth century, the impact that
photography made to the world was tremendous. From allowing us to document
events, remember moments, or even create art, photography has evolved into one of
the most influential forms of media today. If you take a look around almost everyone
has a camerain their pocket. Photographs can make an impact in many ways and The
Burning Monk is one of the photos that made an impact in history.
The Burning Monk, taken by Malcolm Browne in 1963 was published by
Associated Press. Used to expose Vietnam Monks sentiments towards their
government, the photo illustrates an elderly monk ablaze in what appears to be a
heavily populated part of town. As the flames engulf the monk, he does not seem to

There appears to be a somber tone to the photo, and almost an aspect of disbelief,
to witness half a man s body covered by flames but remaining motionless. The
photo was taken in black and white to emphasize a critical message and what it
stood for. The role of color has no importance in this image because the addition of
color would not change what the photo represents in any way. Rather, by opting to
not use color, there is a serious tone to this picture, allowing the action of the shot to
speak for itself. The Burning Monk was published in the United States during the
1960 s. During this era, the Vietnam War had become a part of the everyday
American s life. The war had been going on for eight years and America was
supporting Southern Vietnam s government. Vietnamese monks under the rule of
President Ngo Dinh Diem were banned from observing their practices, one such
example was the prohibition of flying their own flag. During a time of national
separation, the president wanted to emphasize patriotism, however, his harsh
treatment of the monks lead to them to protest.

The Importance Of Acquiring Ben Revere From The

After all, corner outfield positions are associated with power hitting...power hitters
who don t have to play defense all that well to justify a spot in the lineup. By contrast,
Revere is a 27 year old outfielder listed at 5 9 and 170 lbs on the Phillies website (so
consider him slightly less in both regards) who has a reputation of being a slap
hitting speedster with a weak outfield arm. That reputation is justifiable, as Revere
has a career ISO of .053 and 3 home runs in over 2,400 plate appearances. However, if
one only looks at the paltry power numbers, the bigger picture is being missed. That
bigger picture is that Ben Revere is a league average hitter in 2015 who has
contributed 1.9 wins above replacement in approximately half a year s worth of plate
appearances.
Revere is currently sporting a triple slash line of .302/.340/.381, which is good for
a 101 wRC+, which would put him behind only Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold
among Orioles outfielders, although Reimold has only accumulated 67 PAs (I m
considering Chris Davis a first baseman here). Yes, his offensive production is
largely dependent on batting average, which makes his acquisition a little riskier, but
he s been very consistent over the last 3 years, as the table shows.
Revere isn t necessarily another platoon player either, something of which the
Orioles have plenty. While he s had trouble against left handers in 2015 (58 wRC+

whether the reduced context sensitivity that people with ASC have, affects their
decision making skills. It has been stated that a person capable of making rational

Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling

IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary
results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1 regulates energy metabolism by
inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will measure core body
temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed a
high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and
mitochondrial respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down
adipocyte cell lines. Utilizing enzyme assays and hydrogen deuterium exchange

inhibits AMPK. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK stimulator; 5
Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and
insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish

Resistance Of A Solute From Concentration
Introduction
Cells must move materials throughout membranes and cytoplasm in order to keep on
maintaining homeostasis. This movement is regulated through cellular membranes,
which are selectively permeable. Membranes have phospholipid bilayers, containing
embedded proteins. The phospholipid fatty acids hinder the flow of H2O because of
its hydrophobic behavior.
The cellular environment is aqueous, meaning that the solutes dissolve in water
(solvent). Water may cross voluntarily through the membrane by osmosis. Most ions
move through protein channels, while transport proteins import larger molecules like
carbohydrates.
The simplest form of movement is diffusion, where solutes move from an area of high
concentration to low concentration. Diffusion is directly related to molecular kinetic
energy, taking in no energy input. The movement of a solute from an area of low
concentration to high concentration requires energy input (ATP).
The process by which water moves through membranes by a special kind of diffusion
is called osmosis. Like solutes, water moves down its concentration gradient. Water
moves from areas of high potential to low potential. The high potential contains low
solute concentrations, while the low potential contains high solute concentrations. In
surrounded cells, osmosis is affected not only by the solute concentration, but also by
the defiance to water flow by the cell wall, known as turgor pressure.
The terms hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic are used
The Incident Command System (OCD)
Our world is complex there has always been and always will be disasters that can
happen anywhere anytime. There can be natural disasters, for example floods,
hurricanes, tornadoes, wild fires and drought. There are also man made and
technology types of disasters from hazardous material spills, biological weapons,
cyber attacks to even civil unrest. According to PEMA, the history of emergency
managementcan date all the way back the first civil defense program which was
started during World War I and later during World War II the office of civil defense
(OCD) was created by Pres. Roosevelt. In the past emergency management, has
always been event driven. With each new crisis that our nation has gone through, the
reason for and the avenue in which to accomplish emergency management has
changed. No more so than when the terrorist attacked on 9/11. The 9/11 commission

A Priority based Compromise Fuzzy Goal Programming Approach for Channel
Allocation Problem
Abstract
Some companies produce and sell all of their own products through their own
internal channels and some use multiple external channels to distribute goods to
consumers. Many authors have presented mathematical model for channel allocation
problem. Tsai et al (2008) presented a mixed integer fuzzy goal programming model
for channel allocation problem considering three different fuzzy goals. In this paper
we use the weighted root power mean method of aggregation for obtaining a priority
based solution of channel allocation problem where preferences are defined in terms
of weights.
Keywords: Channel Allocation problem, Compromise fuzzy goal programming,
multiobjective optimization, weighted goal programming.
1.Introduction
Firms distribute their product through multiple distribution channels which include
direct and indirect channels. The channel in which distribution function is grouped by
a supplier and one or more of intermediaries, is known as an indirect channel.
However, a direct channel distributes products from producers to the users directly
without introducing any intermediaries. Many reasons can be presented for the firms
to adopt multiple channel strategy because advances in information and
manufacturing technology have encouraged multiple channels. However, multiple
channels for distribution of the products in the market arise many challenges and one
of them is the

asked to write personality types and after doing that are asked to put them on the

Nobody knows the tag on their back, but is able to see the others tag. The manager
then asked each participant to figure out the type of personality on their back and this
he does by asking the questions about other participants, such as Am I a man? ...

In this regard, the manager had instituted a companywide team building initiative that

diversity, influence on culture, gender as well as age differences and attitudes and

work together and enhance collaboration, understanding as well as innovation and
trust among the employees. The manager had clear goals expected outcome as well
as implementation process. According to King et al., (2010), naturally, the
effectiveness of such training is closely linked to the goals, outcomes and

There instances where the manager fails to effectively communicate to the
employees. Blunt is an Australian manager and as afore mentioned, the company
has over one hundred employees from different backgrounds. The company has
more than 20 employees from South East Asia and out of them eight are Chinese.
As much as the manager expects these employees top perform, the employees
themselves feel subjected to the manager and look at him as some sort of God. The
Chinese background is collective where a person is seen as having no rights except
those which society allows them to enjoy (Biddle, 2012). The manager is ineffective
in communicating to this section of the work force as they have trouble reconciling
their traditional roles and their new found duties. Communication is a very critical

phase electric power, the neon lamp, and the vacuum variable capacitor. The Tesla
coil is one of Nikola Tesla s most famous inventions. It is essentially a high
frequency air core transformer. It takes the output from a 120vAC to several kilovolt

Crooks Image Of Loneliness
Why can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. These are the words of
Steinbeck describing loneliness on the ranch in Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck
makes an image of loneliness appear as the words are read from the page. The
loneliness in the novel is not caused by abuse or a broken heart, but by socially
imposed barriers. The barriers were never really made, they are more a ranking of
social power over anything else. The social barriers are formed and the workers on
the ranch feel forced to stay within their social boundaries. They all know that
Crooks does not live in the bunkhouse, but instead, out by the barn. Crooks, is in
his own social boundaries because he has been hurt before and does not want to
relive his past pain he had suffered. When Crook expresses the quote, S pose you
didn t have nobody. S pose you couldn t go into the bunk house and play rummy
cause you was black. How d you like that? , it really gives you a feeling of his
lifestyle. With Crooks, it felt as if you could take a step out of your own life into
his, with the detail of his daily struggle of loneliness, it made the novel feel very
personalized. Another character who is separated from others on the ranch because...

The loneliness in the novel is caused by social barriers that from far away can be
hard to see, but when you get a glimpse into their life, you realize how lonely they
really are. With nobody to talk to or socialize with, a lot of them spend their days
separated from others and just doing what needs to be done. Both Crooks and
Curley s wife feel the same way, separated by social boundaries and all for reasons
that they cannot control. While looking back, it was easy to realize that, their
struggles are our struggles, look back, take a glimpse of the past and us, as the
human race, can see ourselves in a whole new
A Good Man Is Hard To Find And Hunters In The Snow
Ours is a violent world where even the most common folk can find themselves faced
with unspeakable horror through little or no intention. In Flannery O Connor s A
Good Man is Hard to Find, the characters find themselves at the mercy of armed men
because of a faulty memory and a few wrong turns. In Tobias Wolffs Hunters in the
Snow, a young manwinds up shooting his friend in an apparent accident which
culminates in a debate between saving that friend or whether it is more important to
preserve the self. The stories work together to explore what humans will do when
faced with terrible violence.
The story A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor is famous for its use of
unexpected violence. An unnamed grandmother ... Show more content on

The car turns over and the accident has left their automobile unable to go further.
The children, seeing their first moment of violence are delighted and are only sad
that no one has died in the collision. Since the kids have never experienced real loss
or real pain before, the experience is one of novelty to them. When aid arrives, it is
ironically in the form of The Misfit. The children s enthusiasm and curiosity about
why their Samaritan carries a gun is nothing. It is the grandmother who is nearly
obsessed with violence who dooms the family. The final moments of the story are
jarring, even more than half a century after they were written. While the family is
taken into the woods and murdered one by one, grandmother sits begging The
Misfit for her life by trying to appeal to his humanity. She asks him to pray and
assures him that she believes that he is a good man at heart. This ploy does not
work. The Misfit sprang back as if a snake had bit him and shot her three times
through the chest. Then he put his gun down on the ground and took off his glasses
and began to clean them (O Connor). It is one thing when you are sitting at a
restaurant discussing what a person might do when faced with a murderer. It is quite
another when the reality comes to you directly which is the point of the story. To
those unacquainted with violence first hand, one can only speculate. To those very
Challenges Of Decentralization In Japan
Prefecture oriented decentralization system in Japan:
Feudal clan oriented decentralization had been employed in Japan earlier. Local
Culture and prefecture system are heavily dependent on the feudal clan system. But
the Comprehensive Local Autonomy Law was adopted as the first volley of
decentralization reform in 2000. The main provisions of the law are as outlined below.
1.Elimination of the system of delegated functions
The backbone of a decentralized system is to eliminate 561 agency delegated
functions, this functions government ministries delegate to prefectural governors,
municipal mayors, and local governments; and replace many of them with local
autonomy functions.
2.Reducing or eliminating contributions to local governments
The inclusive, authoritarian system of nationwide guidance and control under the ...

Challenges of Decentralization:
Challenges of Decentralization in Japan common in fiscal federalism literature are
the view that decentralization can fundamentally entail gains in government
efficiency and social welfare. However, in Japan, conflicts of interests among
stakeholders have impeded the promotion of decentralization. In fact, the goal of
decentralization seems to vary among Japan s numerous interested parties and
stakeholders. There are some fundamental challenges for decentralization in Japan.
Challenge regarding Administration:
In Japan, although the central government performs relatively few direct functions it
remains heavily involved in local government administration. Demarcation of roles
between the central and local governments is institutionally unclear. In many fields,
there is role duplication in various levels of the government. For example, even
though public services are self governing functions (SGF, Jichi Jimu);147 the central
government takes part in providing local public services via laws or through national
Procedural Justice Theory Paper
The constant derogatory comments and attention police departments have gotten
lately can have a negative impact on their ability to perform their job and have a
positive relationship with the community. According to the Procedural Justice
Theory, the legitimacy and trust are largely based on perceptions of procedural
fairness believing that the policetreat citizens with fairness and respect... (Hohl,
2011). The media does a good job at attacking the legitimacy of the police and their
ability to perform their job in a fair and consistent manner. Per the Procedural Justice
Theory, with the fairness of the polices actions in question, the trust towards police
gets tarnished and disintegrates. With little to no faith in law enforcement, the police

This event is the first of its kind and has brought together police officers from around
the country to discuss how we can strengthen the relationships between law
enforcement and the communities they serve. The discussion was a healthy balance
of how these groups can work together and improve these relationships.
The Black Chamber of Arizona, University of Phoenix, and the Checkered Flag Run
Foundation organized an event that included law enforcement, community based
organizations, and government leaders, to address the issues of the negative
reputation law enforcement has been getting hit with by the media. The purpose was
to come up with some new solutions to help represent law enforcement in a better
light and dispel undesirable rumors. One of the solutions offered was by Deputy
Chief Danielle Outlaw. She suggested that all police officers should have increased
fear training. This training would have an emphasis on deescalating situations,
making sure a weapon was not involved. If the officers feel safer in the environment,
they will not react hastily where they can make
Design Of Floating Point Unit Core For Signal Processing...
Design of floating point unit core for signal processing applications
Abstract: Traditional computers data processing is limited by computer data input,
output, storage, display. Further computing needs repeated binary decimal
conversions. With the expansion of data intensive computing needs of distributed
computing, decimal computing of mass data is widely applied in banking, financial,
bio medical, astronomy, geography, signal processing, data acquisition and image
compression and other fields. Independent decimal floating point unit is becoming
important in these areas. A floating point unit is a part of a computer system specially
designed to carry out operations on floating point numbers. Floating point unit have
been implemented as a coprocessor rather than as an integrated unit in various
systems. Today s floating point arithmetic operations are very important in the design
of DSPs and application specific systems. As fixed point arithmetic logics are faster
and more area efficient, but sometimes it is desirable to implement calculation using
floating point numbers. In most of the digital signal processing applications addition
and multiplication is done frequently. This paper focuses on the techniques to design
a floating point unit which has faster rate of operations.
Introduction: A floating point unit is a functional block of a computer processor that
performs floating point arithmetic operations. Also known by the acronym FPU, a
floating point unit can be a
Comparing The Sea Of Monsters And The Titan s Curse
Although what is above and below the earth that we live on seem to be two
separate identities; the laws and boundaries of the world itself will be tested and
clash together when the gods of Olympus are forced into battle against evil doings
of the titan lord, Kronos. A being, that was thought to be destroyed eons ago, but has
recently arisen to take over the Western Civilization, and all the people that make it
up. After retrieving the Golden Fleece from the mystical location they call The Sea of
Monsters, Percy and his friends are on a race against both time and their fellow
demigod, Luke. After several long hours and even more encounters with some of the
most deadly creatures known to man, the group of half bloods finally returned the

After reading this portion of my novel, I predict that Annabeth is still alive after
being thrown off of the cliff into the chasm. There are several supporting facts
within the story that hint or foreshadow that she did not die in the tragic incident.
The first reason why I believe she is still alive is because Percy had a nightmare
about her when he got back to the camp. In the past novels, whenever Percy had a
nightmare, it was usually a vision of future events that were set to happen. One can
infer that because Percy dreamed about his fellow accomplice, Annabeth, that she
must be alive. This shows connections within the stories, and how the author used
these visions as a chance for the reader to foreshadow something that would occur
later in the story. Additionally, in the story, several things that Chiron said might
have hinted at the fact that Annabeth could still be alive. Chiron had practically
raised her all the years she had been a year round camper, and knew how capable she
was of survival. He said, She s very bright. If... if

  • 1. Thesis Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Thesis Essay" can be quite challenging, as it demands a nuanced understanding of the intricacies involved in developing a thesis statement. The difficulty lies not only in comprehending the underlying concepts but also in effectively articulating a clear and compelling argument. This type of essay requires a deep dive into research, critical analysis, and the synthesis of ideas, making it a time-consuming and intellectually demanding task. To begin with, formulating a strong thesis statement necessitates a thorough exploration of the chosen topic. This involves delving into academic sources, journals, and scholarly articles to gather relevant information. The challenge is to sift through the vast sea of literature and discern the key arguments and counterarguments that contribute to the discourse surrounding the chosen thesis. Once the research phase is complete, the next hurdle is structuring the essay coherently. Organizing thoughts in a logical progression, presenting evidence to support the thesis, and addressing potential counterarguments are essential elements. Achieving this seamlessly requires not only a grasp of the subject matter but also a keen awareness of the nuances that differentiate a well-constructed argument from a disjointed one. Furthermore, writing a thesis essay involves a refined use of language and a mastery of academic writing conventions. Clarity, conciseness, and precision are paramount. Striking the right balance between presenting complex ideas and maintaining accessibility for the reader can be a daunting task. In addition to these challenges, there is the constant pressure to contribute original insights to the academic discourse. Simply summarizing existing knowledge is not enough; the essay must offer a unique perspective or contribute fresh ideas to the ongoing conversation. In conclusion, tackling a thesis essay requires a combination of research skills, critical thinking, and eloquent expression. It is a task that demands time, dedication, and a willingness to engage deeply with the subject matter. While the difficulty may seem daunting, overcoming these challenges can result in a gratifying intellectual accomplishment. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any academic writing challenges, a resource like HelpWriting.net can provide valuable support. • 2. A Clean Well-Lighted Place Symbolism In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway uses light and dark imagery along with a young vs. old motif to demonstrate that life has no meaning. The story is about a deaf old man who sits in a cafe every night and gets drunk and the waiters that must serve him. One waiter is young and arrogant while the other is a little older and is more humble and understanding of others. Throughout the story the waiters converse back and forth about what should be done about this drunk old man as it gets later and later in the night. The cafe is used as a place for those seeking quiet and the light instead of the loud dark bars. The light is an escape from the nothingness of the world. In this story, it seems that we can only see places that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What does this Hemingway story have to do with anything in our lives? We aren t waiters or an old men so why should we care. This story exposes a sad and hopeless viewpoint on life so why should we read it? I believe that this story is a wake up call. It reminds me to enjoy every moment of my life and to not rush through my everyday endeavors. We shouldn t live our lives like they are jobs and thinking with a have to attitude. Like my football coach, Coach Lavorato says, live your life with a get to attitude not a have to attitude. The waiter gets to get up every morning and go to work. He gets to go home to his wife. This can be applied to our lives as well. For example, I get to go to a extraordinary school everyday. I get to go to football practice everyday. I get to see my friends and family everyday. I get to do homework every night. I think Hemingway s message is that he wants us to be inspired by this story and to savor every moment of our lives. Don t be fooled by the rush and timetables of life, take things slow and enjoy your Clean, Well Lighted

While not dealing with pressures public companies face in terms of financials, there are parallels that can be drawn to how IT practices are done. This crisis was a turning point for the Republic which saw the influence of the Communists vastly increase. The main political casualty of the May Days was Largo Cabellero, who had always been opposed to the Communist interference, especially when it had been influenced so heavily by Stalin and the USSR. So great was his hatred of the Communist interference that he once famously sent out the Soviet Ambassador, Rosenberg, from a Cabinet meeting as he tried to impose the will of the Soviets in January 1937. After the events of the May Days Cabellero had little choice but to resign, and give way to Negrin, who some historians argue was a mere pawn of the wishes of the Communists. • 14. How Of Read And Read Music How To Read Music Today, I ll be going on over how to read music. It s a completely different concept from anything you ve ever learned. It does look like a blur of lines at first, but soon you ll be able to get the hang of it and create music yourself beautifully. First off, there s this thing called the staff. It s composed of five parallel lines and four spaces in between. There s two of them for different pitches. Each line and space stands for a note. Each line and space stands for a note. In the higher pitches, the treble, from bottom up, the line notes are E, G, B, D, and F, commonly memorized by the acronym Every Good Boy Does Fine . The space notes from bottom up are F, A, C, and E, spelling the word face. In bass, the line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Would it really be a surprise if I told you the treble clef is also called the G clef? The treble clef is in a pretty high or moderate ish pitch. The bass clef is also called an F clef. Now, it looks nothing like an F, but it curls on an F line. Since it s bass, it s pitch is deeper and lower than treble. Music is divided into measures. These are signified by bars going perpendicular to the staff lines. Exactly how long the measures are, well that depends on the time signature. Time signatures are placed at the beginning of the staff, but after either of the clefs. Time signatures are two numbers stacked on top of each other. The top note tells how many beats are in a measure, and the bottom note tells the note value for a single beat. Okay, note time! The notes are the actual music; what you hear. Notes have heads, which are circles. The heads are placed on the staff and exactly where they re placed is indicates what pitch it plays. So, if a note head is placed on the treble staff, on the first line, E, then that would be an E note. Everything about the actual note and not where it s placed signifies the duration and length of the note. If the note is filled in, it s held for one count. That s called a quarter note. If it s empty, it s held for two counts and called a half note. If it doesn t have a stem, a line sticking out either above or below it, and it s empty, then it s held for four counts. That s a whole note. If it

After the Mass, the king sent a swordsman, who came behind Matthew as he stood at the altar with his hands raised to Heaven in prayer, drove a sword into his back, and consummated the apostle s martyrdom (death). This story was not written into the Bible, since the Gospels were written before Matthew traveled to Ethiopia as a missionary. That being the case, the story is recounted from the book the Golden Legend. Another characteristic of Caravaggio s work was his use of light and dark. The Death of St. Matthew is dark overall, with a mysterious light source that eliminates the actual death of the Saint. This mysterious glow brings a religious feel to the painting and along with that gives the story a more powerful expression. Shadows and space are used very carefully to give a sense of immediacy to the scene. The figures around the murder all seem to be backing away from the action in different ways, which helps centralize the important part of the scene. This use of geometric placing of objects shows that he has not totally gotten away from earlier classical artistic methods. This painting also contains natural looking figures and objects, which help give some realism to the story. Grimaces on the face of Matthew, as well as the swordsman, and onlookers depict the reality of experiencing such a terrible occurrence. Flesh is

Although it s not common for people to use old forms of media today, some people still prefer to use products such as vinyl records over modern forms of media. To begin with, the first form of music media goes back all the way to the phonograph which was made by Thomas Edison in 1877. Later the graphophone and gramophone were introduced as innovations of the phonograph. In the western world, someone who would be my grandparents age would use the gramophone to listen to classical music, which was popular in that time period. Records for gramophones would be made out of glass and people would listen as the arm read the rhythm of the music. Resistance is seemingly around the corner for every previously superlative drug, while being deeply entrenched among those medications that a few decades ago were vital to chemotherapy. For artemisinin, the first signs of resistance were observed in a 2008 study of parasite clearance times following monotherapy with artesunate. Clearance was slower among patients from the Eastern Thai Cambodian border than that of patients from the Thai Myanmar border to the West (Dondorp et al., 2009). Though an alarming fact on its own, when coupled with the proportional increase of such slow clearing infections from 0.6% in 2001 to 20% in 2010 with rates approaching 42% in Cambodia one must conclude that there is cause for alarm (Flannery et al., 2013). Resistance is not only emerging but also spreading. Now more than ever we have need of new medicines as well as new approaches for producing those medicines. The link to plant physiology among Plasmodiumspp. is basically irrefutable and imperatively needs further investigating. By elucidating essential biosynthetic pathways behind such compounds like abscisic acid, we can find hitherto unknown targets as well as broaden our knowledge of the evasion mechanisms that are at the disposal of our protozoan foes. Evasion is the primary response of malariain response to the immune systems efforts and this tactic appears to have been extended to one of the most powerful drugs we have.

Hence, the idea of social construction and its dynamic effect on power as stuff and relational . The work of philosopher Michel Foucault in regards to social power and disparity attempts to uncover the fundamental cause of these uneven power relationships in contemporary civilisation. This refers to the power that individuals, groups or institutions may possess. Hence, the perception of power as stuff . This shows that power as capacity is something measurable and regarded as a quantitative capacity . An example of this is the automatic assumption that if an individual has more money than another, that individual is more powerful and influential in contemporary society. Phase One of Canadian Immigration, pre 1901, included high British and French populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite settlements, High Asian concentration on the west coast and the Immigration Act of 1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962. In comparison to Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase helped improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race deemed

By contrast, Revere is a 27 year old outfielder listed at 5 9 and 170 lbs on the Phillies website (so consider him slightly less in both regards) who has a reputation of being a slap hitting speedster with a weak outfield arm. That reputation is justifiable, as Revere has a career ISO of .053 and 3 home runs in over 2,400 plate appearances. However, if one only looks at the paltry power numbers, the bigger picture is being missed. That bigger picture is that Ben Revere is a league average hitter in 2015 who has contributed 1.9 wins above replacement in approximately half a year s worth of plate appearances. Revere is currently sporting a triple slash line of .302/.340/.381, which is good for a 101 wRC+, which would put him behind only Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold among Orioles outfielders, although Reimold has only accumulated 67 PAs (I m considering Chris Davis a first baseman here). Yes, his offensive production is largely dependent on batting average, which makes his acquisition a little riskier, but he s been very consistent over the last 3 years, as the table shows. Moreover, IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1 regulates energy metabolism by inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will measure core body temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed a high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and mitochondrial respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down adipocyte cell lines. • 36. Resistance Of A Solute From Concentration Introduction Cells must move materials throughout membranes and cytoplasm in order to keep on maintaining homeostasis. This movement is regulated through cellular membranes, which are selectively permeable. Membranes have phospholipid bilayers, containing embedded proteins. The phospholipid fatty acids hinder the flow of H2O because of its hydrophobic behavior. The cellular environment is aqueous, meaning that the solutes dissolve in water (solvent). Water may cross voluntarily through the membrane by osmosis. Most ions move through protein channels, while transport proteins import larger molecules like carbohydrates. The simplest form of movement is diffusion, where solutes move from an area of high concentration to low concentration. Diffusion is directly related to molecular kinetic energy, taking in no energy input. The movement of a solute from an area of low concentration to high concentration requires energy input (ATP). The process by which water moves through membranes by a special kind of diffusion is called osmosis. Like solutes, water moves down its concentration gradient. Water moves from areas of high potential to low potential. The high potential contains low solute concentrations, while the low potential contains high solute concentrations. In surrounded cells, osmosis is affected not only by the solute concentration, but also by the defiance to water flow by the cell wall, known as turgor pressure. The terms hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic are used
