Introduction: The Drosophila project was fundamentally conducted to determine potential
regulators of the wingless pathway in Drosophila Melanogaster. All the experiments in this project
were used to establish two things. Firstly, the location of the transposon insertion and secondly, the
effect the genes near the transposon insertion had on the wingless pathway. These two things were
used to ascertain the potential regulators of the wingless pathway. We were assigned unknown
#2812 for this experiment. Drosophila Melanogasterwas used as a model organism in this
experiment. Drosophila are extensively used biological experiments, especially experiments that
involve genetics. These flies have characteristics like high reproductive rate, short life cycle and
only 4 chromosomes which makes them a good model system. There were four primary
experiments that were preformed in this project: balancer crosses, GMR crosses, meiotic mapping
and PCR and Sequencing. Balancer crosses were performed to identify the chromosome which
contained insertion. Meiotic mapping provided the a more precise position of the insert on the

On Friday I had the honor to visit the historical Rancho Los Cerritos House; also known as

Archaeologists found more than 23 shipwrecks which doubled the number of shipwrecks
discovered around Greece. Many people wondered why there were so many shipwrecks around
one area. There are thirteen islands between Ikaria and Samos and it is believed that the area is
a major Mediterranean shipping route. Many of the wrecks had clay vessels which were used to
transport and trade goods between civilizations. The forty five known wrecks span from around
525 BC to 1850 AD. Inside many of the cargo holds, there were clay vessels that transported
goods to areas of Italy, North Africa, Egypt, and other areas. The team plan on continuing the
exploration until 2018. A couple of the rare wrecks dated to be around 525 480 BC were around
the Archaic Greek Period. There also was black glazed pottery found in some wrecks that belong
to the Hellenistic Greeks. This tpe of pottery was used and produced in the Classical and
Hellenistic periods. Eventually this black glazed ware would be replaved with red figure
