I am not allowed to watch much TV. Therefore, I must be super selective about what I watch. While
I could waste a lot of time watching Duck Dynasty, when it comes to choosing a show, Family Guy
is my top selection. I think the popular cartoon comedy Family Guy, written by Seth MacFarlane, is
one of the best shows still running today.
Among currently running animated sitcoms, there are a few that have current connections to people
and events. Most famous of this genre of shows are South Park and Family Guy. Unlike South Park,
which follows a group of friends at school, Family Guy is about a family. The Griffin family
consists of parents Peter and Lois, their children Chris, Meg, Stewie, and the family dog, Brian.
Instead of showcasing the adventures of an individual struggling to balance impulses and
responsibilities, Family Guy focuses on the dynamics created by family members who are extreme
in their personality traits and very different from each other. Peter, the father, is impulsive,
incompetent, and easily excitable. Lois is the stereotypical responsible mother and wife. Meg is a
classic case of a teenage girl struggling to fit in at high school. Chris is your average awkward and

over 2000 Family Guy episodes has some kind of racial joke. An example is an episode featuring
Brian on a date with an African–American woman. The date is filled with racist jokes right from the

When I was in middle school, I first discovered Family Guy late at night while I was channel surfing
in my hotel room. Usually, cartoons are never shown at night, simply because most kids are asleep

watching too much TV is bad for you. Some will argue it makes you dumb or don't believe

TV. Others would argue that television and social media actually educate us, and even say things
that should be said, but never do. With the rise of all these new types of media in the 21st century

Most people would never even consider Shakespearian plays resembling stories from the Bible, but
this may actually be the case with MacBeth and chapter three of the Book of Genesis. MacBeth is a

'Original Sin.' Chapter three of Genesis tells of the tale of Adam and Eve and their betrayal of God,

Simple thinking in a complex world is bound to bring disaster. The author, Seth Godin, wrote "The
Candy Diet," a short blog published in 2017. He argues that we have been making society a place
where we think that it is okay to simplify non–complex things. The blog utilizes some of the very
same tactics of today's writers to make his argument. Godin begins building his credibility by
informing men and women with supporting examples, then moves on to a reliable quote that has
been misinterpreted. However, at the end of the argument, his statement about being led back to
curiosity fails to inform the readers with enough information to reshape our failing society.
Godin first begins his blog by stating examples of how the media has been declining. He states that
it is important to realize that our best–selling novels have been replaced by coloring books. Cable
channels like TLC and the History Channel show populist, non–educational shows. Not only that,
but even newspapers inform their audience with information they do not care to hear. This has
resulted in the increase of general population not even purchasing newspapers. Seth Godin goes on
to inform the reader that the decline of thoughtful media has been discussed for a century stating
that the decrease is not anything new. The new information is, "A fundamental shift not just in the
profit–seeking gatekeepers, but in the culture as a whole." This shows the readers that Godin has
done his research. It also shows that he is passionate about the lack of depth and complexity in our
modern communications. The readers start to build trust in what he wrote because of his strong
illustrations about the topic.
To further build his thesis, Godin adds another strong example. He states that the media has an
algorithm. He uses an effective metaphor, "we're on the edge of a breakneck race to the bottom, with
no brakes and no break in sight." This explains that we are quickly declining to the bottom.
Although the metaphor is fitting, the sentences building up to it are useless and weak. He could have
either taken them out or made them stronger by making the paragraphs longer. This might make the
reader question if Godin really knows what he is writing about.

The Netflix Original show Big Mouth by Nick Kroll is an animated series all about middle school
students and all of their experiences going through puberty. These students go through some
awkward moments, which people can relate to. I mean who didn't go through awkward moments at

erections, fascination with sex, and much more. The show is very vulgar and has a lot of

We see a lot different scenes where the main character Nick second guesses his trust in his friend
Andrew. In one specific scene the character Andrew is helping Nick's girlfriend because she has her
first period. Nick was expecting his girlfriend to meet him at the top of the Statue of Liberty to take
a picture. When she doesn't show up, he starts looking for her and sees her hugging Andrew. He
thinks that something was going on between them and gets mad at his friend and makes a huge deal
out of it. Andrew then eventually explains that he was just helping her because she had her period.
He then apologizes to Andrew for his overreaction. I feel like while this scene is very specific it
