The types of briefs
Contractual
 Definition: This brief is created by the client and employee. In this brief type it will
name the requirements of the video that the creator will have to meet and then
there will be the payment stated as well.
 Advantages: The company knows exactly what they want within a certain time
limit and there is normally full terms and conditions which the video creators
would have to sign.
 Disadvantages: Once the contract has been signed if you do not meet the
deadline legal action can be taken.
Negotiated
 Definition: This brief type is when specified agreement is made between the
client and employer. It is very important that the brief it too both of the client and
employers likings otherwise it could cause problems in the future.
 Advantages: This is were both group are work together to come up with a brief.
This will also mean later down there line there will less likely be fights over legal
issues.
 Disadvantages: There could be disagreements which could mean losing potential
work and could take longer to do
Formal
 Definition: This brief is formally written including detailed information that the
clients wants the creators to achieve. This is normally quite a straight forward
document and that it may not be always classed as legal document.
 Advantage's: this type is always made as clear as possible. Sometime there is not
a legal document but there can be ways to work around a contract.
 Disadvantages: This is contract type is quite general. There could be some
disagreements on the terms with decisions within the contract.
Informal
 Definition: This brief is not too professional than the more traditional brief . Both
client and employer will come to an agreement on the details on the contract.
 Advantages: There is no real guide to the brief and it’s free to move around with
ideas before the client confirms it.
 Disadvantages: The client could interfere and make the work so hard that it could
make the worker disinterested and the could move on to another company or not
pay the them for creating them a video.
Commission

product for them. It also is between two companies along with an external who
could also receive the product once established.
 Advantages: The company that makes a product will be paid and then may
receive part of the profit once published to the target audience.

product complain about the company who it was made for they could lose work in
the future.

their video chosen may become dishearten by another company winning.
