The Turbulen Sixties Essay
The Turbulent Sixties
Throughout American history, each generation has sought to individualize itself from all others
preceding it. Decades of American history can be separated to represent a distinctive set of values,
culture, and political ideals. The 1960's was a decade caught between euphoric, idealistic beginnings
and a discordant, violent climax. The music of this time period produced a strong counterculture
which sought to influence
America in a way never before experienced. The songs were the backbone of this new age; they
were the tunes which the generation danced to, marched to, and got high off of. This paper will
discuss the ways popular music of the 1960's produced national awareness of the anti–war
movements, led to

The stage was set for an unprecedented event which had never before happened, an entire campus
being placed under the control of students.
However, plainclothes police were called in to violently break up the students, and by May of 1968,
the administration regained control. Many people were shocked that police used such violent and
bloody methods to break up the resistance. The mayor of New York, John Lindsay, said that he
himself believed that the measures used to regain Columbia were overly brutal and forceful (Sann
234–235). The aftermath had great implications on some of the music played at Woodstock in 1969.
Joni Mitchell, for example, cried for more of these types of protests when she sang, "we've got
to get ourselves, back to the garden." By 1970, confrontations with student activists and armed
forces had become overly violent. At Kent
University of that year, National Guard forces opened fire at a group of demonstrators in Ohio's
Kent State University, killing four and injuring 9
(Encarta). These actions led to many college students jointly rebelling against sending troops to
Cambodia, and an even larger number called for the impeachment of then President Nixon
(Anderson 350). In 1967, in New
York, roughly 3000 rioters pelted police with bottles, stones, and eggs.
In this time of turmoil, Bob Dylan again wrote another song which would forever define the plights
of this generation. In "The Times They Are
A'Changin," he uses

Short Story : A Wish For Hope
"A Wish for Hope" With my bags packed and my phone charged, I set off for Memphis, Tennessee
with my cousin and her parents. It was time for Kaylie's annual checkup at St. Jude. As a baby,
eighteen years ago, Kaylie was diagnosed with leukemia–a cancer of blood and bone marrow. She
overcame the disease after a hard battle, but it left scars. However, she doesn't let anything hold her
back from being the kindest and the most genuine person I know. When she asked if I wanted to go
with her to Memphis, I thought, "Sure. It'll be a fun road trip with my family and it would be neat to
see the hospital." I had no idea what was waiting for me when I arrived. We checked into our hotel
and went to a family favorite spot–the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid. This place was amazing. It is
much bigger than any of the stores around here, and it was in a large mirrored glass pyramid. It was
the true "sportsman's paradise". It was also very family–centered, which you could easily tell from
the restaurant and bowling alley located inside. So we shopped, ate, and bowled (I had a final score
of 26, but I had fun getting there). It's in times like those that Kaylie seems to be what we might
refer to as "normal". She was in her element, laughing and being around people she loves. That was
completely different from the events of the next day. We woke up early and headed down the street
to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I cannot put into words my initial reactions. As I

Punishment In The Monkey's Paw
In Louis N. Parker's play rendition of The Monkey's Paw, Mr. White's good friend Sergeant Major
Morris pays the White family a visit and introduces them to a cursed artifact called the Monkey's
Paw. He informs the family about how the cursed artifact grants wishes in an undesirable
method.Despite that Mr. White continues on to wish for 200 pounds, in hopes of paying off their
rent. Nonetheless, the 200 pounds does arrive but comes in the form of compensation from Herbert's
death by machinery equipment at his workplace. However, the question still left unanswered by the
short story is, who's to blame for the sorrow and despair that took over the White's? Is it the one who
introduced the cursed paw, Sergeant Major Morris? The victim himself, ... Show more content on

White to rescue the paw from burning in the fire, but choosing to make a wish upon the paw was the
most irrational move that he could have made. Before he makes his first wish, it was noticed that
Mr. White was reluctant in using the paw. I believe he behaved in this manner because he was
reflecting upon the mentioned dangers and consequences that was conveyed to him by S.M Morris
and deciding whether it was worth the risk. He then proceeds to say, "I wonder whether we hadn't
better chuck it in the fire?...(Holds up the paw, as if half ashamed) I wish for two hundred pounds"
(Jacobs 126). The first half of the quote displays Mr. White doubting his choice in saving the paw. I
believe he behaved in this matter because it was a natural instinct for him to feel this way given all
the warnings and advice he had received against it. In the second half of the quote, we witness Mr.
White's greed cloud his common sense as he chooses to shamefully wish for two hundred pounds
despite knowing that there may be consequences in addition to his wish. I believe that if Mr. White
had thought through his actions better and did not wish upon the cursed paw, the tragic death of his
son would have never occurred. After all, it was this wish that tampered with the White family's fate
thus resulting in Herbert's

Three Wishes By Etgar Keret: A Literary Analysis
Many people have dreamed of being granted wishes, however wishes may not always produce the
desirable result. Authors from around the world have conjured up many different perspectives on
this subject, such as David Straker, the writer of, "Three Wishes," and Etgar Keret, the author of,
"What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" These authors have two very unique perspectives on
wishes and the consequences that they bring.
First of all, the story, "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" by Etgar Keret, had a pessimistic
attitude toward wishing. Sergei Goralick, the main character, is a misanthropist that moved from
Russia to Israel to get away from the bothersome KGB who were always knocking at his door.
Goralick possesses a magical goldfish,

L.A.'s Traffic Causes Trouble
Whether you're stuck on the 405 freeway during rush hour, on the 15 freeway heading back from a
long–weekend vacation, or driving through the busy streets of Hollywood, traffic on the highways
and streets of Los Angeles can often be a hassle. In Dagoberto Gilb's short story Love in L.A., first
published in 1986, the troubles of traffic are experienced first hand by our main character Jake. Jake
is a common fellow with a steady occupation who is merely trying to make his way to work through
the busy streets of Hollywood. As he is working his way through the piled traffic, not paying
complete attention to the road in front of him, Jake crashes into the back of a Toyota. In the midst of
exchanging information with the driver of the Toyota, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jake's inability to provide valid insurance information, his lack of a modern car, and his inability to
afford a license plate portray his low social status. Taking the new criticism approach, the author
shows symbolism in the story. In the beginning of the story Jake is dreaming about a more luxurious
car. "He needed an FM radio in something better than this '58 Buick he drove. It would have crushed
velvet interior with electric controls for the LA summer." (628) However, the author uses repetition
by using the same idea again at the end of the story. Once Jake is back in his car ready to head back
to work, he once again imagines what it would be like to have a car with "FM stereo radio and
crushed velvet interior." (630) The usage of this same concept both in the beginning and the end
helps to tie together the story as a whole. The author also uses repetition in order to put emphasis on
a certain aspect of the story. The author starts off with the idea that Jake is a common fellow who
dreams of having more luxury in his everyday life, and goes on to end with this same idea. Jake's
dreams of having an ideal car definitely points out to the reader the social standing of Jake's
character. Through the use of gender roles, Marxist criticism, and new criticism, the reader learns
that the character of Jake is persistent and insistent, as well as financially unstable. Dagoberto Gilb

Three Messages from "The Writer"
Authors are very clever with their words. They are brilliant and humorous, or even dark and
depressing. They spin tales of wonder and horror and delight, and they tell you of things that are
true. They can show you of the way that things have to be. As such is life and there is no way we can
change that. You cannot stand by and watch as time leaves you as nothing but dust. You cannot try
to change everything for your power only goes so far. Richard Wilbur threw some rather interesting
things into his poem, "The Writer", and it just goes to show that even in the simplest of things, there
is a limit to the affect you have on the situation.
Even though some people of this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In "The Writer", R. Wilbur stated, "I wish her a lucky passage...of life or death, as I had forgotten. I
wish what I wished you before, but harder." You can't stand idly by and watch life tumble away and
do nothing but close your eyes and wish. If you want something to be, you must take action and
make everything you can of this short time and help all those in need. You may try as hard as you
might, but there is only so much you can do for the ones you attempt to help. When you rise up from
your place to try to help somebody, you cannot do all of the work. They're the ones who have to
learn and they need help themselves. You can open the window to help the bird, but it is the one who
has to fly out. You can give a child everything they need to succeed in life, but they have to be the
ones to do something with all of that. As said in "The Writer", "...For a helpless hour, we watched
the sleek...iridescent creature batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove to the hard floor..." Even
though you try to help the people who are panicking and trying to escape, you can only do so much.
If it has to be, then escape or redemption is not possible, due to the one in peril. In many poems,
clever authors hide messages in the plot and in all of the words and similes. They tie things together
with certain words that work together brilliantly. They show the world through their work the
realities and hardships of life. They bring us to the knowledge that try as we might, there are

The Sibyl Becomes Gray And Decrepit By Ovid
Greece is a country located west of Turkey and southeast of Italy which is famous for all the greek
mythology that has been created. Within the context of greek mythology "Sibylla" or "Sibyl" means
a prophetess, which within both of our poems which are based on the extensive greek mythology, a
character by the name of Sibylla appears and decides to take an action that would cost her a great
amount. Within the poem "The Sibyl becomes Gray and Decrepit' By Ovid, there is a storyin which
a character was not careful in what she wished for and let her ambition and desires get the best of
her, she had to pay a great price. This poem depicts the characters wishes and desires which all end
up becoming true. Sibylla, one of the characters in Ovid's poem, Becomes old after wishing for ...

Sibylla says, "I pointed to a heap of dust collected there, and foolishly replied 'As many birthdays
must be given to me as there are particles of sand.'"(Ovid 58). In the poem Rilke Utilizes the wish
that Sibylla makes to emphasize what comes after her having wished for eternal age and not having
eternal beauty with it. For instance Sibylla dreaded becoming old and losing her youthly body and
Rilke picks on this in his poem, where in "The Sybil becomes gray and decrepit" Sibylla herself
recognized that she would become old and loose her current body to age, When it states "Her age
became to much to say in years– and, like a forest's, it would be told.(Rilke 3)" It recognizes that
Sibylla has accepted her age and is filled with sorrow that she now must live with this burden. Rilke
depicts the moments Sibylla is going through when in the second stanza of his poem it says, "She is
a hollow, wrinkled husk, dark as a fire gutted citadel (Rilke 7)" Sibylla is clearly not happy with
how her life and it even appears that she foretold what would happen to her within Ovid's

The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frost's Wind and Window...
The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frost's Wind and Window Flower I interpreted this poem as a very
sad one. A love unrequited by the pursued. In the first two lines the poem tells you to forget about
the love you share and hear a tale of this. Not to literally forget, but possibly put aside. The man is a
winter breeze, cold and rough and sort of roams the land. The woman is a window flower, shut off
from the outside. This sets up the separation. They can "see" each other and are kept apart by a glass
wall. She has all the comforts of the outside, the warmth of the sun and even the company of a
"caged yellow bird" (7) hanging above her. It is almost that the mention of this bird being caged
above her is a symbol of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man notices her, he couldn't help but notice her. Who knows how many windows he has
breezed by with flowers in them and kept on moving. For some reason, probably due to the beauty
of this particular flower, he had to return to see her. The man knew nothing of love. He was "
concerned with ice and snow, dead weeds and unmated birds, and little of love could know" (14–
16). This gives an example of what the breeze was experienced to in his life. We then see the wind's
attempt to win her, "But he sighed upon the sill, He gave the sash a shake" (17–18). This was not a
direct approach. The sash may have been the "testing of the water" to see where he stood by
questioning her peers. This was done in full view of her though. He was not very subtle about it
either. The people close to the woman knew very well what was occurring, "As witness all within,
Who lay that night awake" (19–20). These were people in the "house" that were following this
courting, laying awake that night was watching and listening. With the next two lines, "Perchance he
half prevailed, To win her for the flight" (21–22), we see that he almost persuaded her. She had to
choose between him and "the firelit looking glass and warm stove–window light" (23–24). She was
comfortable with what she had. She had warmth and caring where she was and these were things she
felt he was unable to offer her. In the last part of the poem we see what her

"The best music...is essentially there to provide you with something to face the world with."
–Bruce Springsteen aka The Boss
Bruce was born in 1949 to Adele and Douglas Springsteen in Freehold, New Jersey. Growing up he
never really fit in at school. Springsteen always knew he was meant to be in the music business. His
family was just like any other average working class, New Jersey family. His mother took out a 60
dollar loan to buy him his first guitar. Springsteen was in many groups but the one that he
considered his blood brothers The E Street Band. Bruce took the world by storm but never forgets

By the late 1960s, Springsteen was spending most of his time in Asbury Park on the New Jersey
Shore, playing in several different bands (Earth, Child, Steel Mill, and Dr. Zoom and the Sonic
Boom) while he forged his unique sound and introduced audiences to the gravelly baritone voice for
which he would later become famous. It was there that he first met the musicians who would later
form his E Street Band. Around this time, Springsteen also acquired his nickname, "The Boss,"
because he had a habit of collecting money earned during shows and then distributing it evenly
among his band mates (biography.com). In 1972 Bruce signed a management contract on the hood
of a car with Mike Appel. After which Appel was able to score him an audition with John Hammond
of Columbia records, who signed greats such as Billie Holiday, Aretha franklin and Bob Dylan.
Springsteen nailed the audition and was signed by Hammond but warned Bruce that the agreement
with Appel was a bad deal. Although Springsteen stayed loyal to Appel but this decision would
come back to haunt him in later years. Columbia saw Bruce as a solo folkie, although Bruce wanted
a rock–n–roll record. He decided to call in some of his Jersey Show buddies, Clarence Clemmons,

Bob Marley : Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
What Is Bob Marley Remembered: Bob Marley was reggae's foremost practitioner and emissary,
embodying its spirit and spreading its gospel to all corners of the globe. His extraordinary body of
work embraces the stylistic spectrum of modern Jamaican music – from ska to rocksteady to reggae
– while carrying the music to another level as a social force with universal appeal. Few others
changed the musical and cultural landscape as profoundly as he. As Robert Palmer wrote in a tribute
to Marley upon his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "No one in rock and roll has left
a musical legacy that matters more or one that matters in such fundamental ways." Reggae's loping,
hypnotic rhythms carried an unmistakable signature that rose to the fore of the music scene in the
Seventies, largely through the recorded work of Marley and the Wailers on the Island and Tuff Gong
labels. Such albums as Natty Dread and Rastaman Vibration endure as reggae milestones that gave a
voice to the poor and disfranchised citizens of Jamaica and, by extension, the world. In so doing, he
also instilled them with pride and dignity in their heritage, however sorrowful the realities of their
daily existence. Moreover, Marley's reggae anthems provided rhythmic uplift that induced what
Marley called "positive vibrations" in all who heard it. Regardless of how you heard it – political
music suitable for dancing, or dance music with a potent political subtext – Marley's music was a
powerful potion for

Essay The Impact of Technology
The Impact of Technology
With all of the new technology forcing itself into our lives, many of us can't help but get sucked into
the excitement. So as we struggle to figure out where the future is heading, we ask ourselves is it
good or bad? In my opinion, it's a little bit of both.
Everything we do uses technology. The computer that I typed this on is one of them. On page 28 in
the textbook, there is a short story on how much we use computers daily. Our watches, ATMs, cars,
TV's, and Radio's all use computers to work. Imagine our lives without it. It would be tough, right?
People have grown so used to the advantages of technology, life without it would be difficult for
most of us. Cell phones are a very popular technology. People ... Show more content on

One of the bad uses of technology is used by people who choose to use it for immoral reasons.
There are plenty of news reports about people who use the internet for child pornography, adult
pornography, web predators, and so on. One report of web predating was in the February 23, 2004
article in the Detroit Free Press. It tells about two men who were arrested at a Barnes & Noble
bookstore in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. They were arrested because of "suspicion of using the
Internet to meet and have sex with a 14–year–old girl, after unit members posed as the girl." The
article also said that "According to a study by the National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children, one in five children who use the Internet regularly receives sexual solicitation online. Yet
only about one in four young people who are approached sexually on the Internet tells a parent
about the incident."
On page 75 in the textbook, it shows a picture of the new self–service POS (Point of Sale) terminals.
It uses a touch screen and lets you put yourself through the checkout without having to talk to
anyone. Some people think it's quicker, but others may believe that technology may take over
supermarkets. Some grocery stores use POS terminals so they won't have to hire as many employees
or to cut back on how many people they have working at the same time. On page 74 it explains how
Bar–Code readers are attached to POS terminals. According to the book "These

The Music Industry Is Changing Rapidly With The...
The music industry is changing rapidly with the advancement of technology. The way consumers
listen to music now, is nothing like the how it was in the past. The same amount of change has gone
into the way that artist, producers, and labels make their money as well. The industry will continue
to change and develop as we move further into the future. The advancements in technology have
allowed for more convenience for the consumer. The consumer can now sit at their computer and
listen to whatever music they want instantly for a much smaller cost than having to go to the store
and buy the artist's whole album. The age of being able to hold music in your hand is over and
everything is now streamed through the internet. During the ... Show more content on

During the work week, internet radio has approximately three times the amount of listeners as all
broadcast radio channels combined at all times of the day [1]. While broadcast radio is quickly
declining, there is still about $16 billion in advertising revenue coming into the industry [1]. This is
a large enough amount of money that broadcast radio won't die out in the next couple years. The
radios can still play the hot new hits from major artist and obtain enough listeners to create
advertising revenue. As listeners have migrating from AM radio to FM radio to internet radio, the
major advertisers have followed right behind them. The advertising companies want to market
where they can hit the most consumers for the smallest amount of money. If there is three times the
amount of people listening on the internet than on broadcast radio; it only makes sense to advertise
on the internet radio and hit three times the amount of consumers as the same add on broadcast radio
would. As we move further into the future, the music industry will be less about selling music to the
consumer through iTunes, CS's, or MP3's and turn more to selling listeners to advertisers to make
the money. Music streaming has been helped along with the development of music algorithms.
These will only develop further in the future and create an even better music listening experience
than what we have now. The music algorithms are used by all of

In conclusion, "Hark at the wind, 'said Mr. White, who, having seen a fatal mistake after it was too

This quote displays foreshadowing because during this event he makes a mistake and doesn't realize

I. Introduction In 1968 Richard M. Nixon a 55 year old former vice president who lost the
presidency for the Republicans in 1960 reclaimed himself by defeating Hubert Humphrey in one of
the closest elections in United States history. On July 23, 1970 Nixon approves for a plan for greatly
expanding domestic intelligence gathering by the FBI, CIA, and other agencies. He later has second
thoughts though. A few days later he resends his approval. On September 9th 1971 the Whitehouse
plumber unit named for the orders to plug leeks in the administration steals files on Daniel Ellsberg,
the former defense analyst who leaked the pentagon papers from a local physiology office. On the
evening of August 8th 1974 President Richard Nixon gave his last speech ever as the face of the

The Antagonist Made Good:
At times, a hero may be revealed right through the glass, or it may be necessary to investigate deep
down to find the true identity of a hero. In Dr. Seuss 's famous story The Lorax, The old, mysterious
Once–ler is the hero because of his evolution past keeping the treasured land with the Truffula Trees
undisclosed, consequently establishing a realization of the inadequate oversight of the actions
presented in the story, formulates an effective solution to a problem that he created as an act of
redemption. The Once–ler displays deep acts of heroism, which is why he is considered the hero of
the text.
The old, reserved Once–ler begins to display acts of heroism even in the first blossoms of the
children's tale. This implies that the Once–ler, who according to the narrator "lurks in his Lerkim",
rarely shares his the story of how the Lorax traveled far away. The text states that the Once–ler only
tells the story on a "special dank midnights in August". He then managed to tell the depressing story
of the termination of the Truffula Trees to the innocent child with relative ease. This means that the
Once–ler has evolved from the incident that he instigated and is willing to convey the aspects of life
that he does not want to recall. It is extremely challenging to visualize a negative part of life that
occurred because the person wants to forget about it. However, this is not

heat in the shade when he's really standing in the oven. The metaphor is used to describe someone
that is ignorant. By the end of the book Manny is no longer an ignorant child. Victor Martinez's

Brady's Restaurant: A Fictional Narrative
The policeman on the beat moved up the avenue impressively. The impressiveness was habitual and
not for show, for spectators were few. The time was barely 10 o'clock at night, but chilly gusts of
wind with a taste of rain in them had well nigh de–peopled the streets.
Trying doors as he went, twirling his club with many intricate and artful movements, turning now
and then to cast his watchful eye adown the pacific thoroughfare, the officer, with his stalwart form
and slight swagger, made a fine picture of a guardian of the peace. The vicinity was one that kept
early hours. Now and then you might see the lights of a cigar store or of an all–night lunch counter;

"I'm just waiting for a friend. It's an appointment made twenty years ago. Sounds a little funny to
you, doesn't it? Well, I'll explain if you'd like to make certain it's all straight. About that long ago
there used to be a restaurant where this store stands–'Big Joe' Brady's restaurant."
"Until five years ago," said the policeman. "It was torn down then."
The man in the doorway struck a match and lit his cigar. The light showed a pale, square–jawed face
with keen eyes, and a little white scar near his right eyebrow. His scarfpin was a large diamond,
oddly set.
"Twenty years ago to–night," said the man, "I dined here at 'Big Joe' Brady's with Jimmy Wells, my
best chum, and the finest chap in the world. He and I were raised here in New York, just like two

What Is The Mood Of The Flounder
The story begins with a Fisherman that does fishing for a living. He suddenly caught a Flounder
with a speech ability. After the flounder plead for its life, the benevolent fisherman freed the
flounder back into the water. Afterwards he informed his wife of the situation; however, his wife
was displeased as she advises him that the fish has the ability to grant wishes and sent her husband
back to wish for a better place to live. The water as well as the surroundings changes each time the
desirous wife forces the fisherman to go back and forth to the flounder, craving a bigger living space
as well as power, but each wish results in the water growing darker and the environment turning
grim. The wife eventually reached the peak of her greedy desires ... Show more content on

In the first version of the story, the fisherman catches a large flounder from the bottom of the clear
water. The flounder implored the fisher to release him implying that he does not "taste good."
Feeling sympathy, the fisherman released him; however, when once he returned to the fisher spot
suggested by his wife, the water changed to two different colors: yellow and green. The fisherman
summoned the flounder caught earlier with the following chant: "Mandje! Mandje! Timpe Te!
Flounder, flounder, in the sea! My wife, my wife Ilsebill, Wants not, wants not, what I will." For
each wish, the water changes to different colors and conditions: Purple & dark–blue as well as gray
and dense, dark–grey and becoming violent with a "foul smell," black and dense with a strong wind,
red sky with little blue in the middle including roaring water occupied by tossing ships with distress
signals and lightning, and a pitch–black sky with dark waves as hell as a mounting. In the second
translation, the fisher uses a different chant to summon a large flounder: "Flounder, flounder in the
sea, Come, I pray thee, here to me. For my wife, good ilsabil, Wills not as I'd have her will." The
difference from the previous version is that the water produces bubbles as it roars when the
fisherman came back to the flounder wishing for the wife to be an emperor and ships were shooting
guns as well as leaves falling during the fisherman's trip to the water to wish the wife to be a pope.
In the video adaptation version of the story, the fisherman made a chant that differs from the
previous versions: Flounder, flounder in the sea, come I pray thee here to me, for my good wife,
Penelope, wishes what she should not be." In this adaptation, the flounder has gold and silver scales.
The sea became green and thick which "boils from bellow" as the fisherman began wishing for his

Essay On The Story Of A Short Story
Samuel Townsend was a very poor man. He didn't have a job, and he ate scraps out of the trash for
nourishment. One fateful day, Samuel was walking towards the tavern to get food from the trash,
when he spotted a fakir on the side of the road. The fakir looked anxious, and he called out to
Samuel, "You there! Please come here!" With nothing better to do, Samuel started making his way
to the man. The old fakir was talking so fast that Samuel couldn't understand him. It took a while,
but Samuel finally got the old man to talk slower. The old man explained to Samuel that fakir's
swore to renounce all possessions and he needed to give away a monkey's paw he had. Samuel told
the man, "I am poor, but what need do I have for a monkey's paw?" The old man explained that the
monkey's paw had a spell on it. This fact got Samuel interested. The old man said, "If you hold the
paw in your right hand say you wish, it will be granted. It will look as if your wish happened only
on coincidence." He also explained that it will grant three wishes for three different men. The fakir
begged Samuel to take it, and Samuel did. He left the fakir where he was, and set off for the tavern
again. On his way there, he couldn't stop staring at and thinking about the monkey's paw. He
realized that, if the fakir was telling the truth, he wouldn't have to dig in the trash for food. Samuel
placed the paw in his right hand, and wished for a job. Samuel thought the paw moved and instantly
dropped it. He looked around, and nothing had happened. He knew that the paw was too good to be
true, so he put it in his pocket and continued on to the tavern. When he arrived at the restaurant, he
went to the side of the place and started digging in the trash. Before he could find anything, a man
called out to him. The man, who was dressed very well, said, "What are you doing?" Samuel told
him he was looking for something to eat, and the man said, "Nonsense, come with me. I will buy
you something to eat." Samuel, of course, readily accepted the man's offer. As they sat down, the
rich man introduced himself, "My name is Robert Woodhull, and I own the steel mill. Now money is
no problem, so order whatever you want." Just then, the waitress appeared, and Samuel

Bob Dylan And The Sixties
Bob Dylan played a vital role in the sixties counter–culture. His lyrics fueled the rebellious youth in
America. Songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times are A–Changin" made him favorable
to anti–war demonstrators and supporters of the Civil Rights movement. He was commonly referred
to as the spokesman for his generation. Dylan used lyrics to empower the youth to find their own
form of counter–culture. The youth generation began to see the effects racism had on society and the
violence it has caused in America. They started anti–war protests and opposed America's
involvement in the Vietnam War. They created their own form of counter–culture in order to
promote a peaceful change within society. Bob Dylan's music appealed to the young generation
because he openly expresses his disapproval of the establishment in order to influenced his audience
to move in a direction for change. The songs Bob Dylan created during the "sixties" represented the
concerns and ideas of the counterculture that dealt with issues like the Vietnam War and the Civil
Rights Movement.
The folk music revival of the early 1960s, blues, gospel, rock and Bob Dylan and country music
traditions as well as the counter–culture movement played an important role in advocating change.
One of things Bob Dylan mentioned in his songs is the Civil Rights movement. The violence led by
racial tension caused Bob Dylan to write songs on it and promote peace and change. It made Dylan

The Benefits of XM Radio Essay
The Benefits of XM Radio Over the years, many people all over have listened to the radio for
entertainment and information. Radio supplies news, sports, music, talk, and many other options
with great ease. However, since television has become so popular lately, people look to it as an
alternative to radio for the previously stated options. The reason for this can be linked to the
redundancy that radio has encountered by not offering anything new and exciting for people to
become interested about. Now, XM radio has solved this problem by giving people something new
to look forward to by offering their services to anyone who wants to try something new. XM Radio

Using fiber optics and computer servers for digital audio signal processing proves another
improvement in technology ("XM Studios" 2002). This will replace "traditional metallic wiring"
that FM and AM radio uses ("XM Studios" 2002). The overall sound quality of the music will be
increased due to this change because there is less chance of the wiring becoming damaged by the
weather and normal wear–and–tear. There is an abundance of genres of music and information that
FM radio supplies already, but XM Radio will supply the people with an easier way to access their
favorites. There will be over 300 channels available for the units, which will be separated by the
genre of music, news, and comedy. These music channels include jazz, blues, classical, rock, pop,

Bloomberg News Radio, CNBC, CNN, USA TODAY, CNET, and BBC ("Programming" 2002).

The Rural Care Organizations Improvement Act Of 2015
The Rural Accountable Care Organizations Improvement Act of 2015, introduced to the United
States Senate in May and now being reviewed by the Senate Finance Committee, will amend part of
the Social Security Act to try and improve the way the Medicare shared savings program assigns
beneficiaries by basing the assignments on services of primary care offered by providers, including
Nurse Practitioners (Govtrack.us, 2015). For Nurse Practitioners specifically, this new legislation
will allow nurse practitioner patients to be assigned to Medicare shared savings Accountable Care
Organizations (ACOs) (AANP, 2015). Currently, the Affordable Care Act establishes nurse
practitioners as providers whom are eligible providers in ACOs; however, the current Medicare
Shared Savings program statute prevents beneficiaries of Medicare, who are receiving primary care
service from a nurse practitioner, from being assigned to Accountable Care Organizations inside the
program (AANP, 2015). The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (2015) also claim the
exclusion of nurse practitioners must be repealed if ACOs want to develop further as models of
practice, which improve cost effectiveness, patient access and quality. Since 2011, the representative
for the 3rd Congressional District of Tennessee is Chuck Fleischmann of Ooltewah. Fleischmann,
like most Republicans, is against Obama care altogether, having co–sponsored the Act to repeal the

The Monkey's Paw Suspense Essay
Title In many stories there is a sense of tension and excitement. This is suspense which makes the
reader curious of the outcome of the story or future events. Suspense can be found when the author
uses repeating phrases, uses vivid words to describe dramatic actions, or explains a character's
anxiety and fear. Suspense is created by authors with a technique called, characterizing anxiety and
fear. When authors use this technique they describe what a character is doing to portray fear. This
advances in the reader's curiosity. For instance, in the " The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs, The
White family is given a magical monkey's paw that grants three wishes to Mr. White. His first wish
results in their son's death. Mrs. White forced Mr. White to bring their son back to life with the
magical monkey's paw; Mr. White knew this couldn't be good and wanted to wish his son away so "

For example, in the short story " The Tell–Tale Heart" the narrator tries to prove he is not crazy by
telling a story. He is troubled by the eye of an old man he loves. He just couldn't stand the eye so he
decided to carefully murder the man. When the police came to the house the narrator played it cool
and the officers believed him. But, when he sat down he started to hear a heartbeat that got "louder!
Louder! Louder!–"(Poe 94) A key reason for this quote was to show that the heartbeat was starting
to get too loud to bear. This quote makes the reader curious of what the narrator will do when he
can't bear the sound any longer. Certainly, that allows suspense to be created.
Ultimately, suspense techniques can be found in many works. Repeating phrases, vivid and dramatic
descriptions, and characterizing anxiety and fear are three of the many techniques and author uses to
create suspense. Suspense can take something otherwise very bland and make it interesting and

What about the consequences or setbacks that command could create... One unlucky family had the
experience many hope to avoid. In the short story ¨The Monkey's Paw¨, the White family obtained
everything they needed until one night, a guest came over for a feast, a huge opportunity with a
terrifying twist. In his hands he revealed a talisman that was cursed by an old Fakir to prove that fate

The Monkey's Paw Character Analysis
"The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs and "The Third Wish" by Joan Aiken are similar stories
because of their characters, and contrasting stories because of the wishes. The characters both
receive wishes in a similar way, but the main characters use their wishes in different ways. First, I
will be comparing the ways the main characters receive their wishes. In "The Monkey's Paw" Mr.
White receives his wishes from Sergeant Major Morris, who sells The Monkey's Paw to Mr. White.
Sergeant Major Morris warns Mr. White about the paw and says the first person wished for death on
their third wish. In "The Third Wish" Mr. Peters was driving his car at dusk, hearing a faint cry, so
he stops his car. Then he enters the woods beside him to investigate the noise, finding a white swan
trapped in a thorny bush, and Mr. Peters decides to rescue the swan, but it pecks and hisses at him.
Eventually Mr. Peters saves the swan and it floats away, but then a little man wearing green clothes
and a golden crown appears and grants Mr. Peters 3 wishes. Next, I will be contrasting the
differences between the way the characters use their wishes. I think Mr. White uses his wishes in a
curious kind of way because he isn't really sure whether The Monkey's Paw is real or fake. First Mr.
White wishes for 200 pounds, and isn't taking the paw seriously, so consequences are his son dies in

One life lesson I learned from "The Monkey's Paw" is you should always consider the consequences

how he was prepared if something bad was to happen, so he could use the last wish. Finally, I
enjoyed reading both of the stories, but I liked "The Third Wish

Narrative Essay : The Wishing Fountain
The Wishing Fountain The sun glared down through the clouds on the small town of Elm Hill.
Smells of death were in the wind this morning, originating from the center of South Park. A man lay
limp at the bottom of the wishing fountain, his face and hands slowly turning blue. Water lapped up
against the dead body of a middle aged man. His fingers slowly uncurled from a fist once holding a
copper penny. Water splashed down on him, slowly pulling at his extravagant clothing. His golden
watch glimmered in the sunshine. Nobody knew what happened to him, and nobody seemed to care.
The days were getting shorter and nights grew cold. Streets of Elm Hill were littered with golden
leaves as fall was coming to an end. Parents were sending their kids outside to play for the last time
that season for the cold weather was coming. Soon families would be trapped inside for 3 long
months as they waited for winter to pass. Meanwhile, not everyone was fortunate enough to enjoy
winter inside. Specifically, the man that lodged under the South Park bridge, called Mr. Nada by the
kids of Elm Hill. After he was laid off from work and his family abandoned him, he was left to the
streets. Teased and taunted by the neighborhood kids, he led a very disgraceful life. With no
available jobs and nobody willing to help him out, his sole source of income were the coins thrown

Customer's Always Right?
Have you heard of the Wal–Mart lingo "customer's always right?" Well, the lingo only work for
Wal–Mart because the notion is far from that at Roadrunners or "Roadies." I started working night
shift at Roadies in the beginning. And then moved to swing shift to opening shift at 4AM, Mondays
thru Friday. So, I know the whole operation like the back of my hand. Roadies in Wapato, is known
for its hot deli food. The convenience store is a one quick stop shop when you're in a hurry, for a
quick bite to eat, or a convenient stop for gas when traveling afar or when the gas tank is just simply
low on fuel. Especially with an icy cold hard beverage (for 21 years old and over) that'll do with hot
wing justice. The place offers a totally different atmosphere throughout the day. It's a completely
different operation from mornings, middays, and nights. The customers vary from different times of
day and night and I can almost predict the type (crazy and crazier) of customers at the same time of
the month as well.
Customers at Roadies range from somewhat normal and polite to disrespectful. The customers in the
morning are mainly farm workers and 95% don't speak English. So, I make do with the language
barrier. A coworker of mine, Sarah Divina asked, "Will it hurt them (Mexicans) to at least try to
learn some English? I can understand if they're new in this country, but most of them had been here
for years." At first, it felt like I could only perform my job with one hand behind my back.

Essay about John-Jin by Rose Tremain
John–Jin by Rose Tremain is a short story with two main characters. We have John–Jin himself, who
was Chinese and born with a disease that held back his growth. He would only grow in minute little
bursts. When John–Jin became older his adopted parents took him to Manchester to see a specialist
who then started him on treatments of growth hormone shots. Things started to look up but after ten
years when John–Jin was 12, the shots took a bad affect on him and he developed Creutzfeldt and
Jacob disease. This disease is more commonly known as Mad–Cow disease.

Her father would wish at a wishing well there for John–Jin. Two years later the pavilion was rebuilt
with help from girders purchased by the locals with a name engraved on them. Suzan's parents
bought one with John–Jin's name on it.
In my own view, the pavilion stood for mortality. Meaning that nothing lasts forever and everything
has its end. When the pavilion was there at the beginning of the story, Susan showed great
excitement for going there and described it as a fun place to be. Toward the end of the story she
didn't describe the pavilion as a great place to be anymore. Instead, she walked to the end of the pier
and looked down wondering if someone was to remove John–Jin's girder, would everything fall? I
get a since that the narrator had the same point of view that I did. I think that what she meant by
saying that is, I wonder what would have happened if John–Jin never existed anymore. She's getting
a since that no one or anything is immortal.
Susan said toward the end of the story that she knows something important now and not to wish for
anything unless you know precisely what you're going to get and how. I think what she learnt was
that if you wish for something and it comes true, it may seem great at the time but nothing lasts
forever and to be careful because it can hurt worse after it leaves.
In conclusion, I agree with the

Bob Marley Essay
Thesis Statement: Bob Marley's life affected his writing and contributed to the development of his
poetry.
Bob Marley is without a doubt the greatest musician a third world country ever produced. Through
Rastafari ideas, he influenced many others with songs that touched the lives of millions with his
constant message of unity. His wisdom through experience helped him achieve a grand distinction
over other artists.
In the year 1944, Captain Norvol Marley, a middle–aged white marine officer, married a young
Jamaican girl named Cedilla Booker. On February 6, 1945 at two thirty in the morning their son,
Robert Nesta Marley, otherwise known as Bob Marley was born in his grandfather's house (The

The band was introduced to Clemet Dodd, a producer of the record company, Coxsone. It was here
where the Wailing Wailers recorded the first song "Simmer Down" which did quite well in Jamaica.
To help with the recording of their songs the studio provided several talented Ska musicians. The
Wailing Wailers were consisting now of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny who were starting to
become quite popular locally. Their audiences rapidly grew and they recorded several more songs on
the Coxsone label, which included "It Hurts To Be Alone" and "Rule the Roadie". Bob soon took on
the role of the leader, being the main songwriter.
The next day after his marriage Bob left for the United States to visit his mother who lived in
Delaware. While in North America he worked to better finance his music and soon returned home.
When Bob Marley returned the Wailing Wailers' music evolved from Ska to Rock Steady. This
evolution conflicted with Coxsone who wanted a Sim band. So the new Wailing Wailers left
Coxsone to form and renamed themselves the Wailers.
Instead of looking around for a new label the Wailers decided to form their own which they called
Wail n' Soul. They released a couple singles on their label such as "Bend Down Low" and "Mellow
Mood" before Wail n' Soul folded the very same year. The ending of their label affected the band
greatly; it wasn't until they met Lee Perry that they got back on track. With the help of Lee

Descriptive Essay On The New York City
I close my eyes and everything seems so calm that it is as if time itself has stopped altogether. A
wave of peacefulness rushes over me. New York City, I still cannot believe it. I begin to hear a soft
hum in my ears that quickly increases in volume. I open my eyes and I am suddenly brought back to
reality as the train rushes by, its horn blowing loud and strong. The train slows to a stop and the
doors open. All at once a massive crowd of people rush off of the subway. Those of us standing on
the platform push through the crowd, praying that our massive group of dancers will all make it onto
the train. Due to the morning rush hour there is not a seat in sight and there is barely any room to
stand. As the train lurches forward we struggle to stay standing. I look out of the window and watch
the flashes of graffiti on the dark walls as we charge forward. The train stops and starts three times.
Each station just as chaotic as the last. We quickly approach our fourth stop, West 4th Street, the
nerves begin to kick in. The train slows to a stop and once again we push through the morning foot
traffic. We follow the signs towards the West 8th Street exit, struggling to stay together. I think to
myself, "whatever happens, don't lose sight of the chaperone." As we approach the stairwell the air
begins to feel cooler. We reach the top of the stairs and the entire atmosphere changes. Whereas the
people in the subway were frantic and rude, the people that filled the sidewalks are calm

Watergate Scandal
Ever since the beginning of time, scandals have occurred. But one of the biggest and infamous
scandals is the Watergate. Approximately forty years ago from date, a Watergate protector found a
small portion of tape attached on the lock of on the National Democratic Headquarters door. Then it
all began.
The Watergate's attempted break in was a part of a bigger operation by President Nixon. The rumor
was Nixon's supporters and people involved in the scandal wanted to tarnish the name of the
Democratic parties. Democratic contenders were hassled and even two of National Democratic
Headquarters were cracked into.
When people became aware of the scandal, Nixon enclosed the issue. Even though the cover up was

Eventually, more hours of recorded discussions were found. These tapes displayed that Nixon was
even more involved in the scandal than people believed. A recorded discussion in 1972 verified that
Nixon and Hardeman communicated to try to hide the conspiracy from further investigation.
After the whole Watergate incident other illegal events were also revealed. For example, 'the
plumbers', a White House assembly, were doing everything in their power to prevent media from
gathering information. Most of the media though did not understand the consequences of the
Watergate scandal, so they focused on reporting on other things that were related to the 1972
election. After the exposure that one of the condemned intruders wrote to Judge, the media turned its
focused. The popular magazine, Time Magazine, defined Nixon as experiencing "daily hell and very
little trust".
Mainly everyone had a different perception of politics after this scandal, including America. "There
was a widespread public perception that the political process had been thoroughly corrupted,"
Robert Hockett says. "Public policy seemed to be up for sale to the highest." Why reforms faltered
Congress attempted to change that perception by passing laws that created a system of public
financing for political campaigns. Disclosure laws were enacted to root out secret donors. Limits

Analysis Of 'The Breeze Played With His Hair'
Personification is giving an inanimate object or person characteristics of a living thing. "The breeze
played with his hair." (Strasser 76) The author chose to use personification to show how the breeze
played with his hair. The word played is the word that shows personification in this quote. In this
section of the story, Shelby is talking to Gabriel, just outside her father's studio. In addition, when
things got uncomfortable, he puts his hands in his pockets, then, "the breeze played with his hair".
This uses the literary element of personification by the reason that the breeze is an inanimate object.
When the breeze played with his hair, Strasser, gave the breeze a human characteristic of playing.
Most importantly, the word playing is a characteristic of a living thing. Ordinarily, when combined
together, you get the literary element of personification. Without the use of personification in this
quote, the breeze would have had no way to show what it did to Gabriel's hair. Therefore, the quote,
"the breeze played with his hair," is the literary element of personification. A hyperbole is an over
exaggerated claim or statement that is not meant to be taken seriously. "As if her mind was a million
miles away." (Strasser 88) Therefore, the author chose to use a hyperbole to show how far her
mother's mind was away from their conversation. The phrase a million miles away is the phrase that
shows a hyperbole in this quote. For instance, in this segment of the story, Shelby and her mother,
are standing in the kitchen, watching tv. When the news reporter said that her dad was guilty of
telling a minor to meet him by herself, without her guardian, Shelby and her mother stood there. As
Shelby tried telling her mother that there was no way her father would have done that, her mother
stood there, not paying attention to the world. Of course, Shelby stood there silent, waiting for her
mother to talk, to break the awkwardness, consequently, her mother stood there even silent than
before. The hyperbole, a million miles away, shows how her mother's mind was not in their
conversation. For this reason, this uses the literary element of a hyperbole because a million miles
away is an overexertion and is not meant to be

The Monkey's Paw And Tell Tale Heart Analysis
"Sometimes painful things can teach us lesson we didn't think we needed to know." This is an
example of the stories; The Monkey's Paw and Tell–Tale Heart. The story, The Monkey's Paw, tells
you about an old friend of Mr. White coming to visit him and his family. He shows them the
monkey's paw and tells them that it can grant you three wishes. They take it even though the friend
warns them not to and the results aren't what they expected. The story, Tell–Tale Heart, tells you
about the narrator who is plotting to kill an old man with the "vulture eye". The narrator doesn't
realize that what he's done will cost him. Although The Monkey's Paw and Tell–Tale Heart stories
may be different, they are also very similar In both the stories I have ... Show more content on

The story says, "–I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid myself of the eye
forever." The author is giving readers what the narrator will exactly do by the end of the story. While
reading both stories, I saw that the authors wrote a lot of irony, the opposite of what will happen in a
story. When Mr. White makes a wish from the monkey' paw, he wishes for 200 pounds. The
consequences of the Whites' family getting 200 pounds was Herbert dying. This is an example
example of situational irony, the situation turns out to be the opposite of what you thought it would
be, because while the readers thought the money was going to drop out of the sky, the whole other
outcome was different. In the beginning of Tell–Tale Heart, the narrator said, 'I loved the old man.
He had never wronged me." This is an example of verbal irony, you say one thing but really mean
the opposite, because he said he loved him, but meant the opposite because he killed the old man.
The authors of both stories, last but not leastly, use suspenseful moods, the feeling that the story
creates within the reader, and dangerous/mysterious tones, an author's attitude toward the subject or
audience of the story, throughout the story. In The Monkey's Paw, the author says, "...The clock
tick.s. A chair creaks. Finally, a quiet knock is heard. Mrs. White jumps up." This is an example of a
suspenseful mood and mysterious tone. In the

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand
Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. '
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years,
but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by
counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in
Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in
communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of
content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media
content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

Analysis Of Jan Johnson's ' The Soul Wound '
Finding Redemption
Music has always been regarded as an art of high importance. The word itself originates from the
Greek word mousike meaning "of the muses", the group of nine Greek Goddesses who regulate the
arts and sciences. It has often been used as a way to heal mental and emotional pain; "music speaks
directly to the body through intuitive channels that are accessed at entirely different levels of
consciousness from those associated with cognition" (The Music Effect.24). In Jan Johnson's Soul
Wound, Johnson discusses the historical trauma of Native Americans and the rage that is associated
with it. This rage, as she later states, "is generally turned inward and expressed through depression,
anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, and manifested externally within families and communities
through domestic and other forms of violence" (Johnson.226–227). In Wabanaki Blues by Melissa
Tantaquidgeon Zobel we see this rage internalized and portrayed in the depression of both Mona and
her mother and depicted in their family dynamic through the neglect of Mona's mother towards
Mona. Mona, as well as other characters in the book, utilize music as a form of therapy to heal the
soul. The characters in Wabanaki Blues utilize music to heal in ways that parallels Bob Marley's
Redemption Song and the Rastafarian religion.
Wabanaki blues is a book that concentrates on a recent graduate of high school named Mona
LaPierre and her path in finding herself. She is a Native American of the

The Turbulen Sixties Essay

  • 1. The Turbulen Sixties Essay The Turbulent Sixties Throughout American history, each generation has sought to individualize itself from all others preceding it. Decades of American history can be separated to represent a distinctive set of values, culture, and political ideals. The 1960's was a decade caught between euphoric, idealistic beginnings and a discordant, violent climax. The music of this time period produced a strong counterculture which sought to influence America in a way never before experienced. The songs were the backbone of this new age; they were the tunes which the generation danced to, marched to, and got high off of. This paper will discuss the ways popular music of the 1960's produced national awareness of the anti–war movements, led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stage was set for an unprecedented event which had never before happened, an entire campus being placed under the control of students. However, plainclothes police were called in to violently break up the students, and by May of 1968, the administration regained control. Many people were shocked that police used such violent and bloody methods to break up the resistance. The mayor of New York, John Lindsay, said that he himself believed that the measures used to regain Columbia were overly brutal and forceful (Sann 234–235). The aftermath had great implications on some of the music played at Woodstock in 1969. Joni Mitchell, for example, cried for more of these types of protests when she sang, "we've got to get ourselves, back to the garden." By 1970, confrontations with student activists and armed forces had become overly violent. At Kent University of that year, National Guard forces opened fire at a group of demonstrators in Ohio's Kent State University, killing four and injuring 9 (Encarta). These actions led to many college students jointly rebelling against sending troops to Cambodia, and an even larger number called for the impeachment of then President Nixon (Anderson 350). In 1967, in New York, roughly 3000 rioters pelted police with bottles, stones, and eggs. In this time of turmoil, Bob Dylan again wrote another song which would forever define the plights of this generation. In "The Times They Are A'Changin," he uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Short Story : A Wish For Hope "A Wish for Hope" With my bags packed and my phone charged, I set off for Memphis, Tennessee with my cousin and her parents. It was time for Kaylie's annual checkup at St. Jude. As a baby, eighteen years ago, Kaylie was diagnosed with leukemia–a cancer of blood and bone marrow. She overcame the disease after a hard battle, but it left scars. However, she doesn't let anything hold her back from being the kindest and the most genuine person I know. When she asked if I wanted to go with her to Memphis, I thought, "Sure. It'll be a fun road trip with my family and it would be neat to see the hospital." I had no idea what was waiting for me when I arrived. We checked into our hotel and went to a family favorite spot–the Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid. This place was amazing. It is much bigger than any of the stores around here, and it was in a large mirrored glass pyramid. It was the true "sportsman's paradise". It was also very family–centered, which you could easily tell from the restaurant and bowling alley located inside. So we shopped, ate, and bowled (I had a final score of 26, but I had fun getting there). It's in times like those that Kaylie seems to be what we might refer to as "normal". She was in her element, laughing and being around people she loves. That was completely different from the events of the next day. We woke up early and headed down the street to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I cannot put into words my initial reactions. As I walked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parker's play rendition of The Monkey's Paw, Mr. White's good friend Sergeant Major Morris pays the White family a visit and introduces them to a cursed artifact called the Monkey's Paw. He informs the family about how the cursed artifact grants wishes in an undesirable method.Despite that Mr. White continues on to wish for 200 pounds, in hopes of paying off their rent. Nonetheless, the 200 pounds does arrive but comes in the form of compensation from Herbert's death by machinery equipment at his workplace. However, the question still left unanswered by the short story is, who's to blame for the sorrow and despair that took over the White's? Is it the one who introduced the cursed paw, Sergeant Major Morris? The victim himself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White to rescue the paw from burning in the fire, but choosing to make a wish upon the paw was the most irrational move that he could have made. Before he makes his first wish, it was noticed that Mr. White was reluctant in using the paw. I believe he behaved in this manner because he was reflecting upon the mentioned dangers and consequences that was conveyed to him by S.M Morris and deciding whether it was worth the risk. He then proceeds to say, "I wonder whether we hadn't better chuck it in the fire?...(Holds up the paw, as if half ashamed) I wish for two hundred pounds" (Jacobs 126). The first half of the quote displays Mr. White doubting his choice in saving the paw. I believe he behaved in this matter because it was a natural instinct for him to feel this way given all the warnings and advice he had received against it. In the second half of the quote, we witness Mr. White's greed cloud his common sense as he chooses to shamefully wish for two hundred pounds despite knowing that there may be consequences in addition to his wish. I believe that if Mr. White had thought through his actions better and did not wish upon the cursed paw, the tragic death of his son would have never occurred. After all, it was this wish that tampered with the White family's fate thus resulting in Herbert's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authors from around the world have conjured up many different perspectives on this subject, such as David Straker, the writer of, "Three Wishes," and Etgar Keret, the author of, "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" These authors have two very unique perspectives on wishes and the consequences that they bring. First of all, the story, "What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?" by Etgar Keret, had a pessimistic attitude toward wishing. In Dagoberto Gilb's short story Love in L.A., first published in 1986, the troubles of traffic are experienced first hand by our main character Jake. Jake is a common fellow with a steady occupation who is merely trying to make his way to work through the busy streets of Hollywood. As he is working his way through the piled traffic, not paying complete attention to the road in front of him, Jake crashes into the back of a Toyota. In the midst of exchanging information with the driver of the Toyota, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jake's inability to provide valid insurance information, his lack of a modern car, and his inability to afford a license plate portray his low social status. Taking the new criticism approach, the author shows symbolism in the story. In the beginning of the story Jake is dreaming about a more luxurious car. "He needed an FM radio in something better than this '58 Buick he drove. It would have crushed velvet interior with electric controls for the LA summer." (628) However, the author uses repetition by using the same idea again at the end of the story. Once Jake is back in his car ready to head back to work, he once again imagines what it would be like to have a car with "FM stereo radio and crushed velvet interior." (630) The usage of this same concept both in the beginning and the end helps to tie together the story as a whole. The author also uses repetition in order to put emphasis on a certain aspect of the story. The author starts off with the idea that Jake is a common fellow who dreams of having more luxury in his everyday life, and goes on to end with this same idea. Jake's dreams of having an ideal car definitely points out to the reader the social standing of Jake's character. Through the use of gender roles, Marxist criticism, and new criticism, the reader learns that the character of Jake is persistent and insistent, as well as financially unstable. • 11. They Must Find Their Own Wings They Must Find Their Own Wings Three Messages from "The Writer" Authors are very clever with their words. They are brilliant and humorous, or even dark and depressing. They spin tales of wonder and horror and delight, and they tell you of things that are true. They can show you of the way that things have to be. As such is life and there is no way we can change that. You cannot stand by and watch as time leaves you as nothing but dust. You cannot try to change everything for your power only goes so far. Richard Wilbur threw some rather interesting things into his poem, "The Writer", and it just goes to show that even in the simplest of things, there is a limit to the affect you have on the situation. Even though some people of this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "The Writer", R. Wilbur stated, "I wish her a lucky passage...of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish what I wished you before, but harder." You can't stand idly by and watch life tumble away and do nothing but close your eyes and wish. If you want something to be, you must take action and make everything you can of this short time and help all those in need. You may try as hard as you might, but there is only so much you can do for the ones you attempt to help. When you rise up from your place to try to help somebody, you cannot do all of the work. They're the ones who have to learn and they need help themselves. You can open the window to help the bird, but it is the one who has to fly out. You can give a child everything they need to succeed in life, but they have to be the ones to do something with all of that. As said in "The Writer", "...For a helpless hour, we watched the sleek...iridescent creature batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove to the hard floor..." Even though you try to help the people who are panicking and trying to escape, you can only do so much. If it has to be, then escape or redemption is not possible, due to the one in peril. In many poems, clever authors hide messages in the plot and in all of the words and similes. They tie things together with certain words that work together brilliantly. They show the world through their work the realities and hardships of life. They bring us to the knowledge that try as we might, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance Sibylla dreaded becoming old and losing her youthly body and Rilke picks on this in his poem, where in "The Sybil becomes gray and decrepit" Sibylla herself recognized that she would become old and loose her current body to age, When it states "Her age became to much to say in years– and, like a forest's, it would be told.(Rilke 3)" It recognizes that Sibylla has accepted her age and is filled with sorrow that she now must live with this burden. • 15. The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frost's Wind and Window... The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frost's Wind and Window Flower I interpreted this poem as a very sad one. A love unrequited by the pursued. In the first two lines the poem tells you to forget about the love you share and hear a tale of this. Not to literally forget, but possibly put aside. The man is a winter breeze, cold and rough and sort of roams the land. The woman is a window flower, shut off from the outside. This sets up the separation. They can "see" each other and are kept apart by a glass wall. She has all the comforts of the outside, the warmth of the sun and even the company of a "caged yellow bird" (7) hanging above her. Who knows how many windows he has breezed by with flowers in them and kept on moving. For some reason, probably due to the beauty of this particular flower, he had to return to see her. The man knew nothing of love. He was " concerned with ice and snow, dead weeds and unmated birds, and little of love could know" (14– 16). This gives an example of what the breeze was experienced to in his life. We then see the wind's attempt to win her, "But he sighed upon the sill, He gave the sash a shake" (17–18). This was not a direct approach. The sash may have been the "testing of the water" to see where he stood by questioning her peers. This was done in full view of her though. He was not very subtle about it either. The people close to the woman knew very well what was occurring, "As witness all within, Who lay that night awake" (19–20). These were people in the "house" that were following this courting, laying awake that night was watching and listening. With the next two lines, "Perchance he half prevailed, To win her for the flight" (21–22), we see that he almost persuaded her. She had to choose between him and "the firelit looking glass and warm stove–window light" (23–24). She was comfortable with what she had. She had warmth and caring where she was and these were things she felt he was unable to offer her. In the last part of the poem we see what her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1972 Bruce signed a management contract on the hood of a car with Mike Appel. Bob Marley : Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame What Is Bob Marley Remembered: Bob Marley was reggae's foremost practitioner and emissary, embodying its spirit and spreading its gospel to all corners of the globe. His extraordinary body of work embraces the stylistic spectrum of modern Jamaican music – from ska to rocksteady to reggae – while carrying the music to another level as a social force with universal appeal. Few others changed the musical and cultural landscape as profoundly as he. As Robert Palmer wrote in a tribute to Marley upon his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "No one in rock and roll has left a musical legacy that matters more or one that matters in such fundamental ways." Reggae's loping, hypnotic rhythms carried an unmistakable signature that rose to the fore of the music scene in the Seventies, largely through the recorded work of Marley and the Wailers on the Island and Tuff Gong labels. Such albums as Natty Dread and Rastaman Vibration endure as reggae milestones that gave a voice to the poor and disfranchised citizens of Jamaica and, by extension, the world. In so doing, he also instilled them with pride and dignity in their heritage, however sorrowful the realities of their daily existence. So as we struggle to figure out where the future is heading, we ask ourselves is it good or bad? In my opinion, it's a little bit of both. Everything we do uses technology. The computer that I typed this on is one of them. On page 28 in the textbook, there is a short story on how much we use computers daily. Our watches, ATMs, cars, TV's, and Radio's all use computers to work. Imagine our lives without it. It would be tough, right? The way consumers listen to music now, is nothing like the how it was in the past. The same amount of change has gone into the way that artist, producers, and labels make their money as well. The industry will continue to change and develop as we move further into the future. The advancements in technology have allowed for more convenience for the consumer. During the work week, internet radio has approximately three times the amount of listeners as all broadcast radio channels combined at all times of the day [1]. While broadcast radio is quickly declining, there is still about $16 billion in advertising revenue coming into the industry [1]. This is a large enough amount of money that broadcast radio won't die out in the next couple years. The radios can still play the hot new hits from major artist and obtain enough listeners to create advertising revenue. As listeners have migrating from AM radio to FM radio to internet radio, the major advertisers have followed right behind them. The advertising companies want to market where they can hit the most consumers for the smallest amount of money. If there is three times the amount of people listening on the internet than on broadcast radio; it only makes sense to advertise on the internet radio and hit three times the amount of consumers as the same add on broadcast radio would. In Dr. Seuss 's famous story The Lorax, The old, mysterious Once–ler is the hero because of his evolution past keeping the treasured land with the Truffula Trees undisclosed, consequently establishing a realization of the inadequate oversight of the actions presented in the story, formulates an effective solution to a problem that he created as an act of redemption. The Once–ler displays deep acts of heroism, which is why he is considered the hero of the text. The old, reserved Once–ler begins to display acts of heroism even in the first blossoms of the children's tale. This implies that the Once–ler, who according to the narrator "lurks in his Lerkim", rarely shares his the story of how the Lorax traveled far away. The text states that the Once–ler only tells the story on a "special dank midnights in August". He then managed to tell the depressing story of the termination of the Truffula Trees to the innocent child with relative ease. Feeling sympathy, the fisherman released him; however, when once he returned to the fisher spot suggested by his wife, the water changed to two different colors: yellow and green. The fisherman summoned the flounder caught earlier with the following chant: "Mandje! Mandje! Timpe Te! Flounder, flounder, in the sea! My wife, my wife Ilsebill, Wants not, wants not, what I will." For each wish, the water changes to different colors and conditions: Purple & dark–blue as well as gray and dense, dark–grey and becoming violent with a "foul smell," black and dense with a strong wind, red sky with little blue in the middle including roaring water occupied by tossing ships with distress signals and lightning, and a pitch–black sky with dark waves as hell as a mounting. In the second translation, the fisher uses a different chant to summon a large flounder: "Flounder, flounder in the sea, Come, I pray thee, here to me. For my wife, good ilsabil, Wills not as I'd have her will." The difference from the previous version is that the water produces bubbles as it roars when the fisherman came back to the flounder wishing for the wife to be an emperor and ships were shooting guns as well as leaves falling during the fisherman's trip to the water to wish the wife to be a pope. Please come here!" With nothing better to do, Samuel started making his way to the man. The old fakir was talking so fast that Samuel couldn't understand him. It took a while, but Samuel finally got the old man to talk slower. The old man explained to Samuel that fakir's swore to renounce all possessions and he needed to give away a monkey's paw he had. The old man said, "If you hold the paw in your right hand say you wish, it will be granted. It will look as if your wish happened only on coincidence." He also explained that it will grant three wishes for three different men. The fakir begged Samuel to take it, and Samuel did. He left the fakir where he was, and set off for the tavern again. On his way there, he couldn't stop staring at and thinking about the monkey's paw. He realized that, if the fakir was telling the truth, he wouldn't have to dig in the trash for food. Samuel placed the paw in his right hand, and wished for a job. Samuel thought the paw moved and instantly dropped it. He looked around, and nothing had happened. He knew that the paw was too good to be true, so he put it in his pocket and continued on to the tavern. When he arrived at the restaurant, he went to the side of the place and started digging in the trash. Before he could find anything, a man called out to him. The man, who was dressed very well, said, "What are you doing?" Samuel told him he was looking for something to eat, and the man said, "Nonsense, come with me. I will buy you something to eat." Samuel, of course, readily accepted the man's offer. As they sat down, the rich man introduced himself, "My name is Robert Woodhull, and I own the steel mill. • 44. Bob Dylan And The Sixties Bob Dylan played a vital role in the sixties counter–culture. His lyrics fueled the rebellious youth in America. Songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times are A–Changin" made him favorable to anti–war demonstrators and supporters of the Civil Rights movement. He was commonly referred to as the spokesman for his generation. Dylan used lyrics to empower the youth to find their own form of counter–culture. The youth generation began to see the effects racism had on society and the violence it has caused in America. They started anti–war protests and opposed America's involvement in the Vietnam War. They created their own form of counter–culture in order to promote a peaceful change within society. Bob Dylan's music appealed to the young generation because he openly expresses his disapproval of the establishment in order to influenced his audience to move in a direction for change. The songs Bob Dylan created during the "sixties" represented the concerns and ideas of the counterculture that dealt with issues like the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. The folk music revival of the early 1960s, blues, gospel, rock and Bob Dylan and country music traditions as well as the counter–culture movement played an important role in advocating change. One of things Bob Dylan mentioned in his songs is the Civil Rights movement. The violence led by racial tension caused Bob Dylan to write songs on it and promote peace and change. Radio supplies news, sports, music, talk, and many other options with great ease. However, since television has become so popular lately, people look to it as an alternative to radio for the previously stated options. The reason for this can be linked to the redundancy that radio has encountered by not offering anything new and exciting for people to become interested about. Now, XM radio has solved this problem by giving people something new to look forward to by offering their services to anyone who wants to try something new. The Rural Care Organizations Improvement Act Of 2015 The Rural Accountable Care Organizations Improvement Act of 2015, introduced to the United States Senate in May and now being reviewed by the Senate Finance Committee, will amend part of the Social Security Act to try and improve the way the Medicare shared savings program assigns beneficiaries by basing the assignments on services of primary care offered by providers, including Nurse Practitioners (Govtrack.us, 2015). For Nurse Practitioners specifically, this new legislation will allow nurse practitioner patients to be assigned to Medicare shared savings Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) (AANP, 2015). Currently, the Affordable Care Act establishes nurse practitioners as providers whom are eligible providers in ACOs; however, the current Medicare Shared Savings program statute prevents beneficiaries of Medicare, who are receiving primary care service from a nurse practitioner, from being assigned to Accountable Care Organizations inside the program (AANP, 2015). The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (2015) also claim the exclusion of nurse practitioners must be repealed if ACOs want to develop further as models of practice, which improve cost effectiveness, patient access and quality. Since 2011, the representative for the 3rd Congressional District of Tennessee is Chuck Fleischmann of Ooltewah. • 50. The Monkey's Paw Suspense Essay Title In many stories there is a sense of tension and excitement. This is suspense which makes the reader curious of the outcome of the story or future events. Suspense can be found when the author uses repeating phrases, uses vivid words to describe dramatic actions, or explains a character's anxiety and fear. Suspense is created by authors with a technique called, characterizing anxiety and fear. When authors use this technique they describe what a character is doing to portray fear. This advances in the reader's curiosity. For instance, in the " The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs, The White family is given a magical monkey's paw that grants three wishes to Mr. White. His first wish results in their son's death. Mrs. White forced Mr. White to bring their son back to life with the magical monkey's paw; Mr. White knew this couldn't be good and wanted to wish his son away so " [he] was on his hands and knees groping ... He is troubled by the eye of an old man he loves. He just couldn't stand the eye so he decided to carefully murder the man. When the police came to the house the narrator played it cool and the officers believed him. But, when he sat down he started to hear a heartbeat that got "louder! Louder! Louder!–"(Poe 94) A key reason for this quote was to show that the heartbeat was starting to get too loud to bear. This quote makes the reader curious of what the narrator will do when he can't bear the sound any longer. Certainly, that allows suspense to be created. Ultimately, suspense techniques can be found in many works. Repeating phrases, vivid and dramatic descriptions, and characterizing anxiety and fear are three of the many techniques and author uses to create suspense. • 54. The Monkey's Paw Character Analysis "The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs and "The Third Wish" by Joan Aiken are similar stories because of their characters, and contrasting stories because of the wishes. The characters both receive wishes in a similar way, but the main characters use their wishes in different ways. First, I will be comparing the ways the main characters receive their wishes. In "The Monkey's Paw" Mr. White receives his wishes from Sergeant Major Morris, who sells The Monkey's Paw to Mr. White. Sergeant Major Morris warns Mr. White about the paw and says the first person wished for death on their third wish. In "The Third Wish" Mr. Peters was driving his car at dusk, hearing a faint cry, so he stops his car. Then he enters the woods beside him to investigate the noise, finding a white swan trapped in a thorny bush, and Mr. Peters decides to rescue the swan, but it pecks and hisses at him. Eventually Mr. Peters saves the swan and it floats away, but then a little man wearing green clothes and a golden crown appears and grants Mr. Peters 3 wishes. Next, I will be contrasting the differences between the way the characters use their wishes. I think Mr. White uses his wishes in a curious kind of way because he isn't really sure whether The Monkey's Paw is real or fake. First Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds, and isn't taking the paw seriously, so consequences are his son dies in a machinery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smells of death were in the wind this morning, originating from the center of South Park. A man lay limp at the bottom of the wishing fountain, his face and hands slowly turning blue. Water lapped up against the dead body of a middle aged man. His fingers slowly uncurled from a fist once holding a copper penny. Water splashed down on him, slowly pulling at his extravagant clothing. His golden watch glimmered in the sunshine. Nobody knew what happened to him, and nobody seemed to care. The days were getting shorter and nights grew cold. Streets of Elm Hill were littered with golden leaves as fall was coming to an end. Parents were sending their kids outside to play for the last time that season for the cold weather was coming. Well, the lingo only work for Wal–Mart because the notion is far from that at Roadrunners or "Roadies." I started working night shift at Roadies in the beginning. And then moved to swing shift to opening shift at 4AM, Mondays thru Friday. So, I know the whole operation like the back of my hand. Roadies in Wapato, is known for its hot deli food. The convenience store is a one quick stop shop when you're in a hurry, for a quick bite to eat, or a convenient stop for gas when traveling afar or when the gas tank is just simply low on fuel. Especially with an icy cold hard beverage (for 21 years old and over) that'll do with hot wing justice. The place offers a totally different atmosphere throughout the day. It's a completely different operation from mornings, middays, and nights. The customers vary from different times of day and night and I can almost predict the type (crazy and crazier) of customers at the same time of the month as well. Customers at Roadies range from somewhat normal and polite to disrespectful. The customers in the morning are mainly farm workers and 95% don't speak English. So, I make do with the language barrier. A coworker of mine, Sarah Divina asked, "Will it hurt them (Mexicans) to at least try to learn some English? When the pavilion was there at the beginning of the story, Susan showed great excitement for going there and described it as a fun place to be. Toward the end of the story she didn't describe the pavilion as a great place to be anymore. Instead, she walked to the end of the pier and looked down wondering if someone was to remove John–Jin's girder, would everything fall? She's getting a since that no one or anything is immortal. Susan said toward the end of the story that she knows something important now and not to wish for anything unless you know precisely what you're going to get and how. Bob Marley is without a doubt the greatest musician a third world country ever produced. The Wailing Wailers were consisting now of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny who were starting to become quite popular locally. This evolution conflicted with Coxsone who wanted a Sim band. So the new Wailing Wailers left Coxsone to form and renamed themselves the Wailers. • 73. Analysis Of 'The Breeze Played With His Hair' Personification is giving an inanimate object or person characteristics of a living thing. "The breeze played with his hair." (Strasser 76) The author chose to use personification to show how the breeze played with his hair. The word played is the word that shows personification in this quote. In this section of the story, Shelby is talking to Gabriel, just outside her father's studio. In addition, when things got uncomfortable, he puts his hands in his pockets, then, "the breeze played with his hair". This uses the literary element of personification by the reason that the breeze is an inanimate object. When the breeze played with his hair, Strasser, gave the breeze a human characteristic of playing. Most importantly, the word playing is a characteristic of a living thing. Ordinarily, when combined together, you get the literary element of personification. Without the use of personification in this quote, the breeze would have had no way to show what it did to Gabriel's hair. Therefore, the quote, "the breeze played with his hair," is the literary element of personification. A hyperbole is an over exaggerated claim or statement that is not meant to be taken seriously. "As if her mind was a million miles away." (Strasser 88) Therefore, the author chose to use a hyperbole to show how far her mother's mind was away from their conversation. The phrase a million miles away is the phrase that shows a hyperbole in this quote. For instance, in this segment of the story, Shelby and her mother, are standing in the kitchen, watching tv. When the news reporter said that her dad was guilty of telling a minor to meet him by herself, without her guardian, Shelby and her mother stood there. As Shelby tried telling her mother that there was no way her father would have done that, her mother stood there, not paying attention to the world. Of course, Shelby stood there silent, waiting for her mother to talk, to break the awkwardness, consequently, her mother stood there even silent than before. The hyperbole, a million miles away, shows how her mother's mind was not in their conversation. For this reason, this uses the literary element of a hyperbole because a million miles away is an overexertion and is not meant to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story says, "–I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid myself of the eye forever." The author is giving readers what the narrator will exactly do by the end of the story. While reading both stories, I saw that the authors wrote a lot of irony, the opposite of what will happen in a story. When Mr. White makes a wish from the monkey' paw, he wishes for 200 pounds. The consequences of the Whites' family getting 200 pounds was Herbert dying. This is an example example of situational irony, the situation turns out to be the opposite of what you thought it would be, because while the readers thought the money was going to drop out of the sky, the whole other outcome was different. In the beginning of Tell–Tale Heart, the narrator said, 'I loved the old man. He had never wronged me." This is an example of verbal irony, you say one thing but really mean the opposite, because he said he loved him, but meant the opposite because he killed the old man. The authors of both stories, last but not leastly, use suspenseful moods, the feeling that the story creates within the reader, and dangerous/mysterious tones, an author's attitude toward the subject or audience of the story, throughout the story. • 77. Radio Stations Of New Zealand There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. ' First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. • 79. Analysis Of Jan Johnson's ' The Soul Wound ' Finding Redemption Music has always been regarded as an art of high importance. The word itself originates from the Greek word mousike meaning "of the muses", the group of nine Greek Goddesses who regulate the arts and sciences. It has often been used as a way to heal mental and emotional pain; "music speaks directly to the body through intuitive channels that are accessed at entirely different levels of consciousness from those associated with cognition" (The Music Effect.24). In Jan Johnson's Soul Wound, Johnson discusses the historical trauma of Native Americans and the rage that is associated with it. This rage, as she later states, "is generally turned inward and expressed through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, and manifested externally within families and communities through domestic and other forms of violence" (Johnson.226–227). In Wabanaki Blues by Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel we see this rage internalized and portrayed in the depression of both Mona and her mother and depicted in their family dynamic through the neglect of Mona's mother towards Mona. Mona, as well as other characters in the book, utilize music as a form of therapy to heal the soul. The characters in Wabanaki Blues utilize music to heal in ways that parallels Bob Marley's Redemption Song and the Rastafarian religion.
