A Good Grandmother Can be Hard to Find Essay
In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find, a family trying to go on a trip to Florida
plans and lives come to a tragic end because of one person in their family: Their manipulative
Grandmother. Even though she says in the beginning I wouldn t take my children in any
direction with a criminal like that aloose in it (O Conner pg), she does the complete opposite of
her word and leads them all in to the way of danger; The hands of the criminal, The Misfit. If she
would have just stayed home, no one would have died in the end and the trip would have went as
smoothly as it has before. Yet, the tragedy of their grandmother s choices and commitment of many
of the deadly sins are what lead them to their fates, and the grandmother to... Show more content on

They never have been to east Tennessee. (O Conner pg). One can see the beginning of her
manipulative and egotistic ways. She tries to put a toll on the families vacation of where they
wanted to travel and make it more about what she wants for herself without thinking of what the
others may want. Yet, they did not listen to her, so in the end she had no choice but to summit to
going, but she continued to rebel by bringing her cat, Pitty Sing, along giving the excuses he
would miss her too much and she was afraid he might brush against one of her gas burners and
accidentally asphyxiate himself. (O Conner pg). Another example of her self centeredness was
when she noticed the african american boy standing in the door of a shack. Oh look at the cute
little pickaninny! she said and pointed to a Negro child standing in the door of a shack. Wouldn t
that make a picture, now? Her granddaughter June Star, points out that he did not have any pants
on. She then says Little niggers in the country don t have things like we do. If I could paint, I d
paint that picture, (O Conner pg). The grandmother demonstrates a sense of prejudice and self
righteousness about the situation. She appears to act and talk as if she is above the child. Yet, she
comments later to Red Sam the way Europe acted you would think we were made of money [...]
She judges others of their lifestyles without looking at her own appearance,

Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man
Invisible Man
Summary One
In The Comic Book World of Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man, Jean Christophe Cloutier talks about
how Ellison s work was influenced by comic books. Ellison s influences included both comic
strips and movies. Cloutier states that Ellison s novel could depict a more elaborated and complex
picture compared to a comic strip that left an invisible mark on Invisible Man (313). The themes
that Ellison introduced in Invisible Man, that were pulled from comic books, included: violence,
young culture, heroism, and the life living in Harlem. Cloutier also states that both Ellison s work
and comic strips questioned whether American fantasies and myths contributed to an individual s
culture that would later lead to unrealistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is an international aesthetic movement concerned with the relations of
science, technology, and race (297). Yaszek says that its goal was to combat the whitewashed vision
of the future, adding a black face onto the future. This was because blackness was tied to the failure
of progress and technological catastrophe. Though Ellison did not consider himself to be within this
genre, Yaszek explained why his writings do fit within the criteria. Ellison rethinks reality and
history, by using Invisible Man, which enabled him to rewire the relation between technology, race,
and art in the novel. Afrofuturism is not just about reclaiming the history of the past, but about
reclaiming the history of the future as well (300). The future was set by the future industry, this was
the group that believed that blackness equals catastrophe throughout the world. Afrofuturists also
believe that technology should eliminate racial distinctions, getting rid of the digital divide . The
protagonist in Invisible Man began to understand this after he was hiding in the basement. Moving
into the basement allowed Invisible Man to master new

Analysis Of The Book Gladwell
Maddy Rigby
Smith
AP English III
30 November 2014
In his previous book, Malcolm Gladwell coined the phrase tipping point , meaning the moment
when an idea or concept suddenly becomes popular within the general populace, and in his
following book, he gives us the term Outliers which means something that lies outside of the normal
or the expected. In his book Blink, Gladwell provides us with two more phrases; thin slicing and
blink. To blink is to act without thinking, working on split second decisions to make choices.
Thin slicing is using the small amount of information that is known to come to a conclusion
without further searching for more information. According to Gladwell, snap judgements often
provide better decisions than well informed, over analysed ones, which is ironic in our
generation of information overload. The book, in the way that Gladwell s books tend to do,
opens with an anecdote, this one opening much like a detective novel, talking extensively about
the discovery of a statue and about the group of analysers that were initially fooled by it, coming
to believe that it had shown to be genuine after much study. After their extensive studying, they
were sure in their deduction, but another group came into the picture soon after and looked at it
or blinked and declared it a fake and a forgery and ended up being right. Gladwell provides a series
of questions following his anecdote is overanalyzing incorrect? Does blinking always provide the

Descriptive Essay About Ice Cream
On Monday, May 22, 2017, my mother and I visited the Museum of Ice Cream. The museum isn
t your typical museum, there wasn t much about the history of ice cream or why it was made, it
was more of an interactive art museum. There are ten different galleries in the museum with
gigantic ice cream themed art. These rooms include, a gummy bear themed room, a banana split
room, a chocolate mint room, a melting popsicle room, and more. Almost every room came with
samples of ice cream and candies, it was absolutely magic! In contrast, the drive there was not
quite as magical. The museum is in downtown Los Angles where there was a lot of traffic,
especially because we were scheduled to go at 5:30 p.m. As my mom and I were driving up, I
was questioning what we were getting into because it was an industrial area, then, we pulled up
to this bright pink building and that was when I began to get excited. Once we got there, we
were a little early, we went just outside the museum where there was a little waiting area
complete with ice cream themed connect four and a huge Jenga. Once it was time for us to enter
the museum, we waited in line for a worker from the museum to scan our ticket and I was elated.
Then, another worker from the museum came out from inside and showed us through the giant
glass doors into the museum. When we first entered, we were told to reach inside an ice cream
cart and grab a handful of chocolate. We were then led to a room covered in pink walls complete

An Auteurist Critique of The Life Aquatic with Steve...
An Auteurist Critique of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Wes Anderson is a world renowned filmmaker known for creating vividly colorful films that are
consistent with his auteur signature. Though he has only directed 7 films (not including his
upcoming film and two short films), he is a perfect example of how even a small body of work
can demonstrate auteur theory. Anderson s films have frequent themes, visual and methodological
style and he even uses a lot of the same actors in most of his films. The Life Aquatic with Steve
Zissou (2004) is a great example to demonstrate Wes Andersons stylistic use of pastel color
schemes, symmetrical shot composition, and thematic use of story elements such as trust,
acceptance, child like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When confronted by a reporter aboard his ship about his latest documentary, Steve resorts to
childish name calling instead of accepting the fact that his opinion is not the only opinion. Steve
Zissou shows no hesitation risking his own life and that of his crew when searching for a
mysterious shark that ate his friend and fellow colleague. Anderson commonly uses family
issues as a thematic device in all of his films. Steve Zissou s long forgotten son, Ned Plimpton,
suddenly shows up to a screening of Steve s documentary, and shortly after they begin a deep
search for a real relationship. This relationship is short lived, however, due to Steve s neglect to
replace the old helicopter atop the Belafonte. Near death experiences are very common in
Anderson s films, Sam Shakusky being struck by lightning in Moonrise Kingdom, and Francis
near death experience in The Darjeeling Limited (2007) are two examples. In the case of The
Life Aquatic the whole crew aboard the Belafonte comes face to face with their death. While
carelessly lounging in the onboard spa, Steve inadvertently lets his ship be taken over by pirates.
Steve (and his ego) take it upon himself to save the crew single handedly. At this point in the film,
the cinematography takes a different turn than what is usually portrayed by Anderson. Wes
Anderson is known for his use of the camera stylistically. His films are

The Importance Of Hunger In Night By Elie Wiesel
Hunger can cause the human body to make conclusions that they would not have on a full
stomach. In Night by Elie Wiesel, he proves the point numerous times. Elie among others loses
sight of his ethics due to human nature, needing food. During the Holocaust, the prisoners in
concentration camps would risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The
captives of the Holocaust had to acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they could for
food. The need for energy can cause a human to make ignorant decisions, thus allowing for a loss
of their personal values. Scientifically, you should not make long term decisions while hungry.
Students at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden studied if it is smart to make a decision
when you are ravenous. A hormone that is made in the gastrointestinal tract, called ghrelin
enhanced their study. Ghrelin is released when your body is searching for food as energy. When
you are no longer hungry, the manufacturing of ghrelin halts. Ghrelin is also associated with drug
and alcohol intake. The researchers at the University of Gothenburg examined rats. Yes, rats are
not humans, but they can display human like behaviors. When an extra amount of ghrelin was
inserted into the rat, they would go against their regular impulses to gain a quick amount of sugar
instead of waiting a little bit longer for a larger, more substantial prize. A very much known phrase
is you should never go food shopping while you are hungry. We all have

Different Type of Budgeting Technique
Budgeting lies at the foundation of every financial plan. It doesn t matter if you re living
paycheck to paycheck or earning six figures a year, you need to know where your money is going
if you want to have a handle on your finances. Unlike what you might believe, budgeting isn t all
about restricting what you spend money on and cutting out all the fun in your life. It s really about
understanding how much money you have, where it goes, and then planning how to best allocate
those funds. Here s everything you need to help you create a budgetusing different approach.
(a)Incremental Budgeting
This is where the current budget and actual figures act as the starting point or base for the new
budget. The base is adjusted for forecast changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words Managers might have overestimated their requirements in the past in order to
obtain a forecast which is easier to work towards, and which will allow them to achieve
favorable results. * Does not account for change This method is based on the idea that expenses
will run pretty much as they did before. However, in business, this is rarely the case. There are
always variables. * No incentives Such a simple method of budgeting really does not provide
your employees with much reason to be creative. They have no incentive to innovate and come
up with new ideas or policies. When a budget allows a little extra room for innovation, you might
find that your employees come up with something great. * Use it or lose it Many employees view
this as a use it or lose it system. They know that next year s budget is going to be incrementally
based on this year s. Therefore, if they do not spend everything that is allocated to them, they may
not have enough money to work with next year. This creates an environment where waste is
encouraged.
(b)Zero Based Budgeting this method was briefly popular during the 1970s but didn t quite make
it as a widely held practice. Yet in today s current business set up, the method is being revived and
regarded as the better approach.

The Unreasonable Fear of Wolves in Never Cry Wolf by...
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is
fear of the unknown ― H.P. Lovecraft. Fear drives mankind to hate what he cannot comprehend.
With this irrational fear mankind is controlled and set on a path of destruction and chaos. In the
autobiography Never Cry Wolfwritten by Farley Mowat, the main character (Farley Mowat),
journeys to the Canadian tundra to study the much feared wolf. There he discovers the fearbrought
upon by men, and how it can result horribly for the wolves. The human race was so frightened by
the unknown species that they began to blame the wolves for cold slaughters, portrayed them as
vicious killers, and because of the fear of the unknown tried to exterminate... Show more content on

Trappers understand that no one understands the wolves so they see it fit to make them the ones to
take the blame. Mankind needs to start to realize that it is there own fear that drives humans to
blame the wolves for their own problems.
Without the proper knowledge needed to understand how the wolf works, the creature is
inaccurately shown as a wild, vicious killer. As Mowat progresses through his research he learns
about the wolves hunting abilities and begins to acquire new information and states, I could
hardly believe that the all powerful and intelligent wolf would limit his predation on the caribou
herds to culling the sick and infirm when he could presumably, take his choice of the fattest and
most succulent individuals (Mowat 126). The way the government and people portray wolves as
mindless killers is not only false, but it is far from the truth. Wolves are instead intelligent
creatures that have the ability to choose and pick the right kill. Also, as Mowat researches their
eating habits he finds that the wolves of Wolf House Bay, and, by inference at least, all the Barren
Land wolves who were raising families outside the summer caribou range, were living largely, on
mice (Mowat 107). During the summer the wolves weren t even that cause of the deaths of caribou.
Instead they found new resources to live off of when the caribou leave so they can continue to
survive. This information is an exact contrast to the

Analysis Of Malcolm X English Language
In this article he laments the fact that his communicative knowledge was low and that he never
received a response from any of the letters he wrote to those outside of prison. This was where he
acknowledges his frustration about his language ability. He compared his ability to speak the
English language prior to his imprisonment with his prison attempts to communicate to different
people and he saw that the latter was vastly inferior to the former. He says, I became increasingly
frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to convey in the letters I wrote... In the street I
had been the most articulate hustler out there I commanded attention... (pg.68). This realization
provided the spark he needed to start improving his language... Show more content on

He saw that he could not communicate effectively with his new intended audience and sought to
see where he could improve. By comparing his ability to his pre prison audience and how he
communicated with them, he found a strategy that would be effective (pg. 68). This was another
thing he did well. He was open minded enough to realize that his language use to his restricted
audience would not work with the people he was not trying to communicate. He was smart enough
to realize that he, not his audience, had to make the necessary changes if he was going to express
his ideas in a manner that was easy for them to understand. This ability is illustrated by his words,
...neither would I replied to anyone writing me something as wild as the white man is the devil
(pg. 67). There really is not much weakness to this article as it does not leave out any vital details
concerning his realization that he needed to be better educated. The article is all about Malcolm X
turning a weakness into a strength which he later used for his future success. The points Malcolm
X makes about learning one s language are excellent. If one wants to communicate with others in
an articulate and clear manner then knowing one s native language is imperative. Especially if
one wants or is expecting a well reasoned response. He writes, It was because of my letters...
starting to acquire some sort of homemade education. (pg.68). In that essence it is easy to agree

The people of this time also believe in fate and place their fate in the hands of the gods.
Gilgamesh lives in a way that is ordained by the gods: The destiny was fulfilled which the father
of the gods, Enlil of the mountain, had decreed for Gilgamesh (Sandars 118). The leader is not
overly revered and is seen as embodying the fate, security, and stability of the people and their
kingdom. When Gilgamesh dies, the people lament. Every aspect of life is ascribed to a god or
gods. The death of Gilgamesh is attributed to Ereshkigal, the Queen of Death, and to all the gods
of the dead (Sandars 119). The people see the world as a place of many dangers, ruled by
different gods who behave as rulers of their particular kingdom. Humbaba is such a ruler, and his
domain is the forest known as the Country of the Living, lying somewhere on the outer bounds of
earth and reality (Sandars 33). The people value the warlike strength of Gilgamesh because he can
protect them from these other gods, as well as from other rulers who might attack them. In ancient
Sumeria, the people came more and more to depend on any leader who could accomplish such a
feat and protect them from their neighbors, intruders from outside the area, and anyone who might
want to plunder their villages. The tendency was thus toward greater centralization and increased
power in the hands of whichever

A Deeper Look At The Future Of Work
Taking a deeper look at the future of work has never been so critical in today s society. Not only
does one have to assess the working conditions within their own country but rather countries
around the world because ultimately, we are one intertwined and whatever happens to one country
will affect us in some way. Trying to discover what the future of work has in store for us is
integral because as history indicates, being ignorant of the economy and its people can lead to
disastrous events. The first of these events being the Great Depressionof the 1930s and the most
recent one being the stock marketcrash of 2008. These events occurred because nobody paid
attention to the people running the economy and this led to sharp increases in shares and
mortgages (in the years leading to 2008). This affected some businessmen but more importantly,
the working class people. Currently, we are doing a relatively better job at monitoring the
economy and market. We have even increased overall wealth in our nation wide, however a
majority of that wealth has gone to the individuals who already have money but at the expense
of the lower classes. Therein lies the problem when looking at the future of work, especially in a
capitalist society like Canada. How do we solve this increasing gap between the rich and poor?
This question has been the topic of debate for the past couple of years. Every now and then,
society tries to take a look at this issue in the form of films Though they do not

Essay On Catalyst Leader
When someone says leader people think many things and how that will affect them and how
they will do their job. However, a catalyst leader is someone that looks into things, makes a wise,
smart, and well rounded decision, and then acts on it. The decision is fair and accurate for the
team that is involved. The leader is acting on the behalf of the team and what is best for them as
well as themselves. I can see from the book that a good leader always puts themselves last and
their team first. This is typically what good leaders do in all situations. Christian leaders want
what is best for everyone under them and will do whatever it takes to make Godhappy while
assisting his workers in the workplace. The people need to be happy for things to grow, develop,
and progress. When all this is complete the real work can begin and people can learn new things.
Throughout the book The Catalyst Leader there are eight key factors that are stressed for the
readers to take in and understand how important they are. They are calling, authenticity, passion,
capability, courage, principle, hope, and collaboration. All eight of these things make up a better

and should be made legal. While many say that it has a high potential for abuse (Medical) and
should remain illegal. Among the arguments, proponents for medical marijuana have presented a
stronger argument for legalization through their use of research and evidence. Opponents of
medical marijuana have given many reasons for why it should not be legalized. One of the main
reasons they argue is that Marijuana smoke contains known carcinogens and produces dependency
in users (Medical). In many studies it has shown that it does have some harm such as the harms
associated with smoking, but the National Academy of Science affirmed that marijuana s short term
medical benefits outweigh any smoking related harms for some patients (Medical). Though
marijuana has been proven to be damaging to the lungs than tobacco, a study in 2006 found no
evidence that marijuana smokers had higher rates of lung cancer (Medical Marijuana). The FDA
has tested the effectiveness of marijuana and has found that the cannabinoids are helpful in treating
pain associated with chemotherapy, postoperative recovery, and spinal cord injury, as well as
neuropathic pain, which is often experienced by patients

Positives And Cons Of Neo Liberalism
Neo liberalism has its ruts in 1938 when it was firstly introduced by the German scholar Alexander
Rusto in a conference hold for intellectuals by Luis Rougier, at the time to be neoliberal meant to
encourage a modern economic policy with state intervention.
Although often used as a trend of globalization and studied mostly in economic, neo liberalism is
very complex. The varieties of values, ideologies, and practices of neo liberalism have a
significant affect in the economic, political, and cultural aspects of the society. Martinez and
Garcia(2000) define neo liberalism as:
A set of economic policies that have become widespread during the last 25 years or so. You can
clearly see the effects of neo liberalism here as the rich grow richer and the poor grow poorer.
Around the world, neo liberalism has been imposed by powerful financial institutions like the
International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank.
The capitalist crisis over the last 25 years, with its shrinking profit rates, inspired the corporate elite
to revive economic liberalism. That s what makes it neo or new.
The term neo liberalism it references in the majority of the cases to the policies and processes
which influences the social life ( whereby a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sociological Theories Of Criminology
Criminology in the beginning was ruled as the classical school of thought and was looked at as
crime being a product of rational choice that can be controlled with some form of deterrence
method. Since then it has been expanded on with new developed ideas of why crime is committed,
including theories that say that biological, psychological and sociological issues are the causes for
crime.
Biological theories say that crime is caused by genetic or physical defects, with treatment being
effective only with the reduction of aggression. Earlier ideas were phrenology, atavism, criminal
behavior in families, and somatotypes, then progressing with later theories of biosocial arousal,
behavior genetics, and autonomic nervous system to name a few. The causes can range from diet,
physical or neurological defects, or just born bad. There have been cases were individuals have
been known to receive blows to the head causing them to have some form of head trauma that has
been linked to criminal behavior.
Psychological theories are that development during formative years of personality defects are the
reason crime is committed. It is therefore believed that crime is caused by an imbalance of the ID,
superego, and ego. The claim is that crime is because of a lack of proper development during early
years of life.
Sociological Theories says that a persons place in society determines if they will commit a crime.

The cell phone has become a centerpiece of everyday life as cell phones are evolving and have
been increasing their functionalities. Today, we use them today for many others reasons than
what cell phones were originally designed to do. People are using them so often that they are
becoming dependent on their phones that they have even become addicted to them. Those who
are addicted to their cell phones struggle to stay away from them for a certain period of time and
become so indulged in all of the unique things they can provide. With cell phone addiction comes
many problems or issues that can occur in an individual s life. Cell phone addiction has lead to

Luigi Gallimberti, et. al discusses in their article Problematic Cell Phone Use for Text Messaging
and Substance Abuse in Early Adolescence (11 to 13 year olds), that problematic cell phone use
(PCPU), is associated with psychological distress, low self esteem, depression, drug abuse,
insomnia, and thoughts of suicide (356). The overuse of cellphones can really detriment a
person mentally and could cause them to arrive at one of these issues stated. An issue also arises
when a person with a cell phone addiction is in school. They tend to remain unfocused while on
their phones and they don t participate during class. In a sample, the students who had better test
grades were less likely to have a problematic cell phone addiction (Gallimberti, et. al 360). This
finding confirms the positive association between cell phone addiction and poor performance in
school. In schools, it was concluded that this overuse of cellphones was positively connected with
deficient school performance in teens with an average age of 15.7 years old (Gallimberti, et. al
360). Aviad Hadar studies in his article Answering the Missed Call: Initial Exploration of Cognitive
and Electrophysiological Changes Associated With Smartphone Use and Abuse that cell phone

The Sacco And Vanzetti Case
The Sacco and Vanzetti case was one that brought a lot of attention and controversy to American
Society. Nicola Sacco was a shoemaker and Bartolommeo Vanzetti was a fish peddler both of
which were Italian immigrants working in Boston. Sacco and Vanzetti were accused of stealing
$16,000 from a shoe factory and murder of the pay master and the guard. In both Chapter 25 and
Upton Sinclair s letter the reader is still left an uncertainty of their innocence or in fact guilty. In
our book, the author sounds a bit biased as if they were convinced that Sacco and Vanzettiwere
guilty. Both men were found armed when arrested but the money was never allocated or seen. In
contribution to the evidence, there was witnesses who could testify that they had seen those men by

Immigrants were seen in a negative light as they were stealing their jobs and not favored by
native born Americans. This case was dragged out for seven years with political battles, protests,

crime and were to be executed. When the execution happened it was noted that Vanzetti stated, I
wish to forgive some people for what they are now doing to me. This chapter does not claim that
they were necessarily guilty but ignores the possibility of their innocence. Upton Sinclair was most
known for her book The Jungle and was passionate activist who would write about injustices

Albert Speer rose from a mere architect to be one of the most influential Nazi leaders of the

Hitler. Speer encircled the field with a ring of search lights, projecting light thousands on meters

Grey Hat Rising: Hacktivism as a Vector for Social Change
James Smith, March 19th, 2015
Creating dysfunction disrupts the societal equilibrium, then forcing society to adapt, to maintain
balance. Social disobedience is the vehicle which drives this societal dysfunction. Whether it is
Malala continuing to promote a woman s right to read in the Middle East, centers providing aid to
people escaping honour killings, Rosa Parks refusing to sit at the back of the bus, or taking down
pro ISIS and child pornography websites. Axioms, must first be torn down in the minds of the
society which is to be disrupted. This can be done within a dominant culture or a subculture,
creating a paradigm shift within the acceptable norms of social interaction, and over time becoming
the folkways of successive generations.

Analysis Of The s Romeo And Juliet

Icarus Research Paper
One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their
orders. Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience
as it allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology.
This anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of
disobedience; however, there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the
ancient Greeks predicted the risks of entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and
his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t
escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and
feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he
flew too low the water would splash up and soak the wings causing him to fall. After only a few
minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a
result the wings melt and he falls to his death. The story of Daedalus and Icarus centers on the
desire to explore despite inherent teachings that stress the importance of following rules.
The first evidence of the story of Icarus existing comes from an ancient piece of pottery

The Pros And Cons Of Pasteurized Milk
Pasteurized Milk is Good
Raw milk, usually only commercially available in health food stores, has not been pasteurized.
Advocates say it s better nutritionally because vitamins and natural enzymes have not been
destroyed by heat. The dairies that are certified to sell raw milk have rigid hygiene standards and
their herds are inspected regularly. However the milk is still not pasteurized and therefore carries
some potential risk of disease (Pro). Although better sanitary practices are being implemented in
dairies to reduce the chances of raw milk being contaminated with harmful bacteria, Pasteurized
milk is a healthier commodity because Pasteurized milk is just as nutritious as raw milk and
Pasteurization eliminates all the harmful bacteria in raw milk. Raw milk can lead to severe
consequences such as illnesses or even worse, death. There are many positive outcomes to
drinking pasteurized milk in comparison to raw milk. There have always been concerns over the
health hazards that come along with drinking raw milk, such as the possible diseases/ illnesses that

Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance
A changing Nation
The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people
during that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The
United States of America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created
compromises that made a big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and
economically.
Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture
was beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to
foreign beliefs and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The

The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right
about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not
know Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the
culture. Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take
away what rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that
were not written on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also
drawn Hawaii as nation under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during
this Hawaiian Renaissance completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is
truly an important aspect of what it came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was
preserved. People all over the world, especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even
America, should all learn about this major time in Hawaii s history where people fought against
the eradication of their culture, as their way of life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be

Taking a Look at Castle Clinton
National Monuments
National monuments were originally designed to protect things that were of historic or scientific
interest. Although now and days we tend to perceive national monuments as part of our countries
heritage; they allow us to display the respect and recognition that we have towards our country and
the individuals who sacrificed a great deal in order for us to live comfortably in this wonderful
country. The antiquities grant of 1906 gave the president the authority to designate national
monuments and since then the president and congress have created more than 100 national
monuments. The various agencies that manage national monuments are the National Park Service,
Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, or BLM.
Castle Clinton formerly known as Castle Garden is a monument that symbolizes America as a
country that welcomes people from all over the world to come for better opportunities. Castle
Clinton is located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island and represents the growth of the city and
also the growth of the country. It was initially built to prevent the British from invading in 1812;
Castle Clinton never saw combat but it did provide a way for the military to have a strategic
presence at the northern edge of the New York Harbor. In 1824 the Castle was turned over to the
city and was completely renovated and changed to Castle Garden. Castle Clinton was one of

young people have been impatient since the beginning of time. Worst case scenario is we re seeing

good thing; they will have the drive to help change the world. I happen to believe there is far too
much patience in the workplace and school right now. We keep teaching young adults the same
thing repeatedly instead of speeding up the process and teaching them to move forward and
wanting to complete tasks faster is a good thing. I was impatient in my current job and kept
pushing for what I wanted and was promoted to a management position in less than a year of
working for the company, bypassing that have worked there for year who were patiently waiting
for an opportunity to fall into their laps. The world is changing now and we need to change with it.

Risk Management through Derivatives in India
Evolution:
With the globalization of trade and free movement of financial assets, risk management through
derivatives became a necessity in India. In the early nineties in India the economic liberalization
provided the economic rationale for the introduction of forex derivatives. Many business houses
actively approached foreign markets not only with their products but also as a source of capital and
direct investment opportunities. In 1993 there was limited convertibility on the trade account so the
environment became more conducive for the introduction of these hedge products. The
development in the forex derivative market was carried parallel along with the steps taken to
reform the Indian financial market. In 1992 FII s were allowed to invest in Indian equity and
debt markets and in the following year foreign brokerage firms were allowed to operate in India.
NRIs (non resident Indians) and OCBs (Overseas Corporate Bodies) were allowed to hold
together around 24% of the paid up capital of the Indian companies and it was further raised to
40% in 1998. The Indian companies were encouraged to issue ADRs/GDRs in 1992 to raise
foreign equity. An Indian entity was allowed to make investments in overseas joint ventures and
wholly owned subsidiaries to a limit of US$ 100 million during one financial year. Investments in
Nepal and Bhutan were allowed to a limit of INR 3.5 billion in one financial year. Companies
located in Special Economic Zones can invest out of their balances

May Day Riot Of 1517 Essay
Throughout the Early Modern World , a huge variety of factors such as economic, environmental,
social and political meant for a shift in culture which in turn provoked protest throughout the period.
There was a common split in communities and the divide was simple; those that feared change and
wanted aspects of life to stay the same and those that favoured the shift into a more modern era.
Historians therefore have debated whether or not protestsduring this period were due to a growing
sense of community, or that an expression of community was simply a by product of other reasons
for protestsuch as economic discontent or xenophobic attacks on foreigners. Historian Julius R.
Ruff states that a community often closed ranks in the face of... Show more content on

Joseph P. Ward reinforces the immaturity and potential recklessness of the apprentices by stating
that apprentices were bridging the gap between kids and adults, adolescence . Thus again taking
weight away from the protests themselves and suggesting that they were more of a common
rebellion than a serious political movement challenging for change. One must therefore reinforce
the statement that the Evil
May Day Riot of 1517 was indeed due to wider factors and not primarily an expression of
community. In conclusion, the protest that took place in 1517 was indeed instigated by
xenophobic leaders that utilised foreign workers as scapegoats and within the protest one could
argue that there were some aspects of community. Having said this, the protest was clearly a by
product of economic and social discontent that did not represent the whole community at all. A
thousand apprentice labourers looting and destroying foreign worker s property partly due to their
hatred of foreign aliens and partly due to wanting to selfishly climb the social ladder does not
express the sense of community and thus, one must conclude that the May Day riot was indeed a
clear product of wider

Healthy Family Systems Theory Paper
Healthy Family System
Psychiatrist Dr. Murray Bowen formulated a family systems theory and described it as a theory of
human behavior that views the emotional unit and uses systems thinking to describe the complex
interactions in the unit ( Theory , 2017). Bowen explained that it was in the families nature that that
members of the family connect emotionally on an intense level. Family systems can be healthy or
unhealthy, or what some would call dysfunctional. A healthy family system promotes healthy
development for individuals in the family system by providing a balanced environment that
includes abiding by the roles and rules assigned to family members and making adjustment when
things get off balanced.
Victor Henson from the Center for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the chapter, family conflict is a risk that could cause unhealthy development where
parental support and monitoring, and positive relationships with adults promote healthy
development (Broderick, Blewitt, 2014). A healthy family system promotes healthy
development however there are many things that could upset the balance of the family system.
Henson described an unhealthy family system as dysfunctional (Family Systems, 2017). He
uses his own life story by describing how his mother left him and his father. This would make a
family unbalanced as the role of the mother is no longer in the picture. With his father s several
remarriages, it caused him to carry anxiety into his adulthood. Anxiety can affect a child s social
development. A child that doesn t have a stable mother figure could possibly grow up fearing
women or may make their own relationships with women difficult. If a family is living in an
abusive situation, that could affect the victim s emotional, spiritual, physical and social
development. A child who gets abused by a parent could become more isolated. It could affect
their self esteem. Abuse can physically affect the development of a mother s unborn child.
Another thing that could affect a family s spiritual development is the loss of a family member,
or a home itself. Pain from a sudden loss doesn t go away fast. It is something that can keep the
family unbalanced for a long

Understanding the Psychologist Called Burrhus Frederick...
Assignment 4 Valerie Rountree Walden University Management in Human and Social Development
MGMT 8010 June 28, 2014 Understanding Burrhus Frederic Skinner B. F. Skinner was one of the
most influential of American psychologists. A radical behaviorist, he developed the theory of
operant conditioning, the idea that behavior is determined by its consequences, be they
reinforcements or punishments, which make it more or unlikely that the behavior will be repeated
again, (NNDB, 2014). His principles are still incorporated within treatments of phobias, addictive
behaviors, and in the enhancement of classroom performance as well as in computer based self

animal could be isolated from all distractions and outside influences, responding only to the well

notated that his daughter Deborah was placed in a Skinner Box , during her early child
development stages, (NNDB, 2014). There was confusion with another invention he developed
called the Baby Tender which was an air conditioned crib with see through walls, (NNDB, 2014).
The crib provided a place to sleep and to remain warm without the involvement of being wrapped
in several layers of clothing or even the trouble of a babe s blanket, (NNDB, 2014). Skinner s
daughter Deborah slept in her novel crib until she was just under three years old, and it is known
that she grew up to be a happy, loving and healthy thriving child and is currently a very successful
artist living in England, (NNDB, 2014). In 1948, Skinner documented his work and published his

Effective Use Of Haunted Houses In Horror Movies

It is one of those movies that showed how utterly funny Tom Hanks was and maybe still is.
Critics might have slammed it upon release but they could not eviscerate it because it had its
saving moments and the jokes were really funny even if they were predictable, except for that
one scene where the kitchen wiring starts a fire sending their roast dinner flying through the
house and lending in the bathroom. There are so many gags, its so hard it to laugh. Who is this

has been described as being banal and filled with too many slapsticks jokes. However, this is
probably Tom Hanks best comedic role. It wasn t created to be intellectually stimulating or to give
you some deep insight about love. It s a romantic comedy but a clever one (unlike the thousands we

Alaska Fish Trap Essay
The use of fish traps in the 1950s almost completely depleted salmon runs in some areas of
Alaska. A fish trap is a big, fixed wooden structure, placed at the mouth of a stream to funnel to
tons of fish into a massive net. Fish traps were also adapted to float so they could be a little bit
easier to transfer in the winter. Fishtraps needed little labor to keep them running, and they also kept
the fish live which was important to the seller, which made them a good economic investment. The
extensive use of the fish traps, and other fixed fishinggear heavily impacted the region and the
Native people of Alaska. Fish traps were a very controversial topic throughout Alaska in the 50 s
and 60 s. These fixed fish traps were extremely efficient, catching almost 600,000 fish annually
and, they had a very low escape rate. Fish traps caught so many salmonthat areas were completely
depleted, and left Native villages without one of their main sources of food. The result of the
residents of Alaska unhappiness with fish traps made the White Act of 1924 come into play. This
act required an escapement rate of 50% off all salmon, this means if you catch 100 fish you have
to let 50 back into the water. The White Act also included that the Secretary of Commerce can
manage all of Alaska s fishing except for the access to the fishery.... Show more content on

society. Commercial fishing, on the other hand, used purse seines, gill nets, and fish traps. Unlike,
the Native Alaskans, commercial fishing mobile gear often required much effort, for not that much

Offshore Drilling Is An Essential Part Of Today s Oil
Offshore drilling has become an essential part of today s oil production and demand for energy.
With the growth of population comes the increasing demand for oil. The oil industry today, is
one of the most used providers of energy. Today in the 20th century the majority of the
population in America has a car and cars needs gas to run. The oil reserves in the earth that are
easily accessible via land are starting to run dry and are becoming harder to find. This is why we
have begun to see more and more offshore oil drills. Although there are benefits of offshore
drilling such as profit, lower gas prices, and becoming less dependent on foreign oil. There are also
many drawbacks in which if something were to go wrong, the mistake would be catastrophic
impacting the environment, the nature, and have trickling effects all around the world.
When people hear the word oil it is commonly interpreted as gas, but the oil that we drill is not
what goes into our cars. The oil that is retrieved from the ground is called crude oil, Oil in its raw
natural form and when it becomes refined it is used in plastics, rubber, and gasoline. Gasoline is a
volatile, flammable liquid obtained from the refinement of petroleum, or crude oil. It was originally
discarded as a byproduct of kerosene production. The first oil well was found and harvested in
Titusville, Pennsylvania by a man named Edwin L. Drake, in 1859. The well was about 70 feet
deep (How gas). It pumped between 20 40 barrels a day

Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions
Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I
think that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more
motivation for me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me.
Due to the fact that we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use
a great deal of textual evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to
the text, and make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of
outcomefour, using the discussion and the process of writingto enhance my intellectual discovery.
Specifically, a reading that I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s
Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the
second essay helped me develop his ideas of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I
primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It was important to use Written and Oral
Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint
Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking the right questions, and
using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong lesson I learned from
Seminar2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that making the application
and evaluation questions helped me most with

The Empire Of The Seljuk Ottoman Empire
One of the small Turkish nomadic tribes in Anatolia during the 13th century was a dynasty named
after the ruler Osman, the Ottomans. This small state emerged in Anatolia during the breakdown of
the empire of the Seljuk Turks. The Ottomans quickly became an undeniable force and ended all
other Turkish dynasties. The Ottoman Empirebecame one of the largest and longest lasting empires
in the world, ruling the majority of the Middle East, northern Africa and southeastern Europe for
over 600 years until its eventual fall in 1922.
The Ottomans were one of the numbers of Turkish tribes that migrated from Central Asia. Initially
they followed a primitive shamanistic religion. Their contacts with various tribes led to the
introduction of Islam and they acquired their greatest combat tradition, that of the ghazi warrior.
The first period of the Ottoman history was characterized by almost continuous territorial
expansion. The Ottoman dominion spread out from a small Anatolian principality to cover a major
amount of land in Middle East and southeastern Europe.
Following the final defeat of the Seljuk Empire in 1293, Osman, the founder of the Ottoman
dynasty, led his principality to take over Byzantine Bithynia in northwestern Anatolia, commanded
the ghazis against the Byzantines. Osman and his successors concentrated their attacks on
Byzantine territories bordering the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara to the west. The Ottomans
took advantage of the decay of the Byzantine frontier

The industrial robots are applied in all branches of the industry. The highest level of application is in
the automobile industry, but the number of installed robots is increasing in other industries as well

there are permanent changes in industrial robotics, new functional solutions and higher possibilities
of the industrial robots applications are expected in the foreseeable future (Karabegovic, 2013). The
extended rivalry model, developed by Porter, will be applied to the robotics industry to determine
how attractive this industry is. By evaluating the strength of individual forces (potential entrants,
rivals, substitutes, buyers, and suppliers), it is possible to determine the degree to which forces of
globalization influence the structure of the robotic industry. Existing Competitors. Rivalry among
competitors within an industry use price discounting, new products, marketing, and other
techniques to be competitive. Profitability of an industry suffers from high rivalry. The intensity
with which companies compete and the basis on which they compete determine to which degree
rivalry brings down an industry s profitability (Porter, 2008). Pure competition is considered by
economists as a competition with a high

  • 2. A Good Grandmother Can be Hard to Find Essay In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find, a family trying to go on a trip to Florida plans and lives come to a tragic end because of one person in their family: Their manipulative Grandmother. Even though she says in the beginning I wouldn t take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it (O Conner pg), she does the complete opposite of her word and leads them all in to the way of danger; The hands of the criminal, The Misfit. If she would have just stayed home, no one would have died in the end and the trip would have went as smoothly as it has before. Yet, the tragedy of their grandmother s choices and commitment of many of the deadly sins are what lead them to their fates, and the grandmother to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They never have been to east Tennessee. (O Conner pg). One can see the beginning of her manipulative and egotistic ways. She tries to put a toll on the families vacation of where they wanted to travel and make it more about what she wants for herself without thinking of what the others may want. Yet, they did not listen to her, so in the end she had no choice but to summit to going, but she continued to rebel by bringing her cat, Pitty Sing, along giving the excuses he would miss her too much and she was afraid he might brush against one of her gas burners and accidentally asphyxiate himself. (O Conner pg). Another example of her self centeredness was when she noticed the african american boy standing in the door of a shack. Oh look at the cute little pickaninny! she said and pointed to a Negro child standing in the door of a shack. Wouldn t that make a picture, now? Her granddaughter June Star, points out that he did not have any pants on. She then says Little niggers in the country don t have things like we do. If I could paint, I d paint that picture, (O Conner pg). The grandmother demonstrates a sense of prejudice and self righteousness about the situation. She appears to act and talk as if she is above the child. Yet, she comments later to Red Sam the way Europe acted you would think we were made of money [...] She judges others of their lifestyles without looking at her own appearance, ... • 3. Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man Invisible Man Summary One In The Comic Book World of Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man, Jean Christophe Cloutier talks about how Ellison s work was influenced by comic books. Ellison s influences included both comic strips and movies. Cloutier states that Ellison s novel could depict a more elaborated and complex picture compared to a comic strip that left an invisible mark on Invisible Man (313). The themes that Ellison introduced in Invisible Man, that were pulled from comic books, included: violence, young culture, heroism, and the life living in Harlem. Cloutier also states that both Ellison s work and comic strips questioned whether American fantasies and myths contributed to an individual s culture that would later lead to unrealistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yaszek also stated that she believed that Ellison s novel was not science fiction but more so Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is an international aesthetic movement concerned with the relations of science, technology, and race (297). Yaszek says that its goal was to combat the whitewashed vision of the future, adding a black face onto the future. This was because blackness was tied to the failure of progress and technological catastrophe. Though Ellison did not consider himself to be within this genre, Yaszek explained why his writings do fit within the criteria. Ellison rethinks reality and history, by using Invisible Man, which enabled him to rewire the relation between technology, race, and art in the novel. Afrofuturism is not just about reclaiming the history of the past, but about reclaiming the history of the future as well (300). The future was set by the future industry, this was the group that believed that blackness equals catastrophe throughout the world. Afrofuturists also believe that technology should eliminate racial distinctions, getting rid of the digital divide . The protagonist in Invisible Man began to understand this after he was hiding in the basement. Moving into the basement allowed Invisible Man to master new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Book Gladwell Maddy Rigby Smith AP English III 30 November 2014 In his previous book, Malcolm Gladwell coined the phrase tipping point , meaning the moment when an idea or concept suddenly becomes popular within the general populace, and in his following book, he gives us the term Outliers which means something that lies outside of the normal or the expected. In his book Blink, Gladwell provides us with two more phrases; thin slicing and blink. To blink is to act without thinking, working on split second decisions to make choices. Thin slicing is using the small amount of information that is known to come to a conclusion without further searching for more information. According to Gladwell, snap judgements often provide better decisions than well informed, over analysed ones, which is ironic in our generation of information overload. The book, in the way that Gladwell s books tend to do, opens with an anecdote, this one opening much like a detective novel, talking extensively about the discovery of a statue and about the group of analysers that were initially fooled by it, coming to believe that it had shown to be genuine after much study. After their extensive studying, they were sure in their deduction, but another group came into the picture soon after and looked at it or blinked and declared it a fake and a forgery and ended up being right. Gladwell provides a series of questions following his anecdote is overanalyzing incorrect? Does blinking always provide the correct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay About Ice Cream On Monday, May 22, 2017, my mother and I visited the Museum of Ice Cream. The museum isn t your typical museum, there wasn t much about the history of ice cream or why it was made, it was more of an interactive art museum. There are ten different galleries in the museum with gigantic ice cream themed art. These rooms include, a gummy bear themed room, a banana split room, a chocolate mint room, a melting popsicle room, and more. Almost every room came with samples of ice cream and candies, it was absolutely magic! In contrast, the drive there was not quite as magical. The museum is in downtown Los Angles where there was a lot of traffic, especially because we were scheduled to go at 5:30 p.m. As my mom and I were driving up, I was questioning what we were getting into because it was an industrial area, then, we pulled up to this bright pink building and that was when I began to get excited. Once we got there, we were a little early, we went just outside the museum where there was a little waiting area complete with ice cream themed connect four and a huge Jenga. Once it was time for us to enter the museum, we waited in line for a worker from the museum to scan our ticket and I was elated. Then, another worker from the museum came out from inside and showed us through the giant glass doors into the museum. When we first entered, we were told to reach inside an ice cream cart and grab a handful of chocolate. We were then led to a room covered in pink walls complete with ... • 6. An Auteurist Critique of The Life Aquatic with Steve... An Auteurist Critique of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Wes Anderson is a world renowned filmmaker known for creating vividly colorful films that are consistent with his auteur signature. Though he has only directed 7 films (not including his upcoming film and two short films), he is a perfect example of how even a small body of work can demonstrate auteur theory. Anderson s films have frequent themes, visual and methodological style and he even uses a lot of the same actors in most of his films. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) is a great example to demonstrate Wes Andersons stylistic use of pastel color schemes, symmetrical shot composition, and thematic use of story elements such as trust, acceptance, child like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When confronted by a reporter aboard his ship about his latest documentary, Steve resorts to childish name calling instead of accepting the fact that his opinion is not the only opinion. Steve Zissou shows no hesitation risking his own life and that of his crew when searching for a mysterious shark that ate his friend and fellow colleague. Anderson commonly uses family issues as a thematic device in all of his films. Steve Zissou s long forgotten son, Ned Plimpton, suddenly shows up to a screening of Steve s documentary, and shortly after they begin a deep search for a real relationship. This relationship is short lived, however, due to Steve s neglect to replace the old helicopter atop the Belafonte. Near death experiences are very common in Anderson s films, Sam Shakusky being struck by lightning in Moonrise Kingdom, and Francis near death experience in The Darjeeling Limited (2007) are two examples. In the case of The Life Aquatic the whole crew aboard the Belafonte comes face to face with their death. While carelessly lounging in the onboard spa, Steve inadvertently lets his ship be taken over by pirates. Steve (and his ego) take it upon himself to save the crew single handedly. At this point in the film, the cinematography takes a different turn than what is usually portrayed by Anderson. Wes Anderson is known for his use of the camera stylistically. His films are ... • 7. The Importance Of Hunger In Night By Elie Wiesel Hunger can cause the human body to make conclusions that they would not have on a full stomach. In Night by Elie Wiesel, he proves the point numerous times. Elie among others loses sight of his ethics due to human nature, needing food. During the Holocaust, the prisoners in concentration camps would risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The captives of the Holocaust had to acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they could for food. The need for energy can cause a human to make ignorant decisions, thus allowing for a loss of their personal values. Scientifically, you should not make long term decisions while hungry. Students at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden studied if it is smart to make a decision when you are ravenous. A hormone that is made in the gastrointestinal tract, called ghrelin enhanced their study. Ghrelin is released when your body is searching for food as energy. When you are no longer hungry, the manufacturing of ghrelin halts. Ghrelin is also associated with drug and alcohol intake. The researchers at the University of Gothenburg examined rats. Yes, rats are not humans, but they can display human like behaviors. When an extra amount of ghrelin was inserted into the rat, they would go against their regular impulses to gain a quick amount of sugar instead of waiting a little bit longer for a larger, more substantial prize. A very much known phrase is you should never go food shopping while you are hungry. We all have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Different Type of Budgeting Technique Budgeting lies at the foundation of every financial plan. It doesn t matter if you re living paycheck to paycheck or earning six figures a year, you need to know where your money is going if you want to have a handle on your finances. Unlike what you might believe, budgeting isn t all about restricting what you spend money on and cutting out all the fun in your life. It s really about understanding how much money you have, where it goes, and then planning how to best allocate those funds. Here s everything you need to help you create a budgetusing different approach. (a)Incremental Budgeting This is where the current budget and actual figures act as the starting point or base for the new budget. The base is adjusted for forecast changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words Managers might have overestimated their requirements in the past in order to obtain a forecast which is easier to work towards, and which will allow them to achieve favorable results. * Does not account for change This method is based on the idea that expenses will run pretty much as they did before. However, in business, this is rarely the case. There are always variables. * No incentives Such a simple method of budgeting really does not provide your employees with much reason to be creative. They have no incentive to innovate and come up with new ideas or policies. When a budget allows a little extra room for innovation, you might find that your employees come up with something great. * Use it or lose it Many employees view this as a use it or lose it system. They know that next year s budget is going to be incrementally based on this year s. Therefore, if they do not spend everything that is allocated to them, they may not have enough money to work with next year. This creates an environment where waste is encouraged. (b)Zero Based Budgeting this method was briefly popular during the 1970s but didn t quite make it as a widely held practice. Yet in today s current business set up, the method is being revived and regarded as the better approach. ZBB starts off with practically nothing on which to base ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Unreasonable Fear of Wolves in Never Cry Wolf by... The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown ― H.P. Lovecraft. Fear drives mankind to hate what he cannot comprehend. With this irrational fear mankind is controlled and set on a path of destruction and chaos. In the autobiography Never Cry Wolfwritten by Farley Mowat, the main character (Farley Mowat), journeys to the Canadian tundra to study the much feared wolf. There he discovers the fearbrought upon by men, and how it can result horribly for the wolves. The human race was so frightened by the unknown species that they began to blame the wolves for cold slaughters, portrayed them as vicious killers, and because of the fear of the unknown tried to exterminate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trappers understand that no one understands the wolves so they see it fit to make them the ones to take the blame. Mankind needs to start to realize that it is there own fear that drives humans to blame the wolves for their own problems. Without the proper knowledge needed to understand how the wolf works, the creature is inaccurately shown as a wild, vicious killer. As Mowat progresses through his research he learns about the wolves hunting abilities and begins to acquire new information and states, I could hardly believe that the all powerful and intelligent wolf would limit his predation on the caribou herds to culling the sick and infirm when he could presumably, take his choice of the fattest and most succulent individuals (Mowat 126). The way the government and people portray wolves as mindless killers is not only false, but it is far from the truth. Wolves are instead intelligent creatures that have the ability to choose and pick the right kill. Also, as Mowat researches their eating habits he finds that the wolves of Wolf House Bay, and, by inference at least, all the Barren Land wolves who were raising families outside the summer caribou range, were living largely, on mice (Mowat 107). During the summer the wolves weren t even that cause of the deaths of caribou. Instead they found new resources to live off of when the caribou leave so they can continue to survive. This information is an exact contrast to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of Malcolm X English Language In this article he laments the fact that his communicative knowledge was low and that he never received a response from any of the letters he wrote to those outside of prison. This was where he acknowledges his frustration about his language ability. He compared his ability to speak the English language prior to his imprisonment with his prison attempts to communicate to different people and he saw that the latter was vastly inferior to the former. He says, I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to convey in the letters I wrote... In the street I had been the most articulate hustler out there I commanded attention... (pg.68). This realization provided the spark he needed to start improving his language... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He saw that he could not communicate effectively with his new intended audience and sought to see where he could improve. By comparing his ability to his pre prison audience and how he communicated with them, he found a strategy that would be effective (pg. 68). This was another thing he did well. He was open minded enough to realize that his language use to his restricted audience would not work with the people he was not trying to communicate. He was smart enough to realize that he, not his audience, had to make the necessary changes if he was going to express his ideas in a manner that was easy for them to understand. This ability is illustrated by his words, ...neither would I replied to anyone writing me something as wild as the white man is the devil (pg. 67). There really is not much weakness to this article as it does not leave out any vital details concerning his realization that he needed to be better educated. The article is all about Malcolm X turning a weakness into a strength which he later used for his future success. The points Malcolm X makes about learning one s language are excellent. If one wants to communicate with others in an articulate and clear manner then knowing one s native language is imperative. Especially if one wants or is expecting a well reasoned response. He writes, It was because of my letters... starting to acquire some sort of homemade education. (pg.68). In that essence it is easy to agree with Malcolm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gilgamesh lives in a way that is ordained by the gods: The destiny was fulfilled which the father of the gods, Enlil of the mountain, had decreed for Gilgamesh (Sandars 118). The leader is not overly revered and is seen as embodying the fate, security, and stability of the people and their kingdom. When Gilgamesh dies, the people lament. Every aspect of life is ascribed to a god or gods. The death of Gilgamesh is attributed to Ereshkigal, the Queen of Death, and to all the gods of the dead (Sandars 119). The people see the world as a place of many dangers, ruled by different gods who behave as rulers of their particular kingdom. Humbaba is such a ruler, and his domain is the forest known as the Country of the Living, lying somewhere on the outer bounds of earth and reality (Sandars 33). The people value the warlike strength of Gilgamesh because he can protect them from these other gods, as well as from other rulers who might attack them. • 16. A Deeper Look At The Future Of Work Taking a deeper look at the future of work has never been so critical in today s society. Not only does one have to assess the working conditions within their own country but rather countries around the world because ultimately, we are one intertwined and whatever happens to one country will affect us in some way. Trying to discover what the future of work has in store for us is integral because as history indicates, being ignorant of the economy and its people can lead to disastrous events. The first of these events being the Great Depressionof the 1930s and the most recent one being the stock marketcrash of 2008. These events occurred because nobody paid attention to the people running the economy and this led to sharp increases in shares and mortgages (in the years leading to 2008). This affected some businessmen but more importantly, the working class people. Currently, we are doing a relatively better job at monitoring the economy and market. We have even increased overall wealth in our nation wide, however a majority of that wealth has gone to the individuals who already have money but at the expense of the lower classes. Therein lies the problem when looking at the future of work, especially in a capitalist society like Canada. How do we solve this increasing gap between the rich and poor? This question has been the topic of debate for the past couple of years. Every now and then, society tries to take a look at this issue in the form of films Though they do not ... Among the arguments, proponents for medical marijuana have presented a stronger argument for legalization through their use of research and evidence. One of the main reasons they argue is that Marijuana smoke contains known carcinogens and produces dependency in users (Medical). Positives And Cons Of Neo Liberalism Neo liberalism has its ruts in 1938 when it was firstly introduced by the German scholar Alexander Rusto in a conference hold for intellectuals by Luis Rougier, at the time to be neoliberal meant to encourage a modern economic policy with state intervention. Although often used as a trend of globalization and studied mostly in economic, neo liberalism is very complex. The varieties of values, ideologies, and practices of neo liberalism have a significant affect in the economic, political, and cultural aspects of the society. Martinez and Garcia(2000) define neo liberalism as: A set of economic policies that have become widespread during the last 25 years or so. You can clearly see the effects of neo liberalism here as the rich grow richer and the poor grow poorer. Around the world, neo liberalism has been imposed by powerful financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank. Since then it has been expanded on with new developed ideas of why crime is committed, including theories that say that biological, psychological and sociological issues are the causes for crime. Biological theories say that crime is caused by genetic or physical defects, with treatment being effective only with the reduction of aggression. Earlier ideas were phrenology, atavism, criminal behavior in families, and somatotypes, then progressing with later theories of biosocial arousal, behavior genetics, and autonomic nervous system to name a few. The causes can range from diet, physical or neurological defects, or just born bad. There have been cases were individuals have been known to receive blows to the head causing them to have some form of head trauma that has been linked to criminal behavior. Psychological theories are that development during formative years of personality defects are the reason crime is committed. It is therefore believed that crime is caused by an imbalance of the ID, superego, and ego. The claim is that crime is because of a lack of proper development during early years of life. • 34. Analysis Of The s Romeo And Juliet Peter Smith Angela Wood Disc 1313 April 20, 2015 Icarus Research Paper One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their orders. Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience as it allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology. This anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of disobedience; however, there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the ancient Greeks predicted the risks of entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he flew too low the water would splash up and soak the wings causing him to fall. After only a few minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a result the wings melt and he falls to his death. In the early nineties in India the economic liberalization provided the economic rationale for the introduction of forex derivatives. In 1993 there was limited convertibility on the trade account so the environment became more conducive for the introduction of these hedge products. May Day Riot Of 1517 Essay Throughout the Early Modern World , a huge variety of factors such as economic, environmental, social and political meant for a shift in culture which in turn provoked protest throughout the period. There was a common split in communities and the divide was simple; those that feared change and wanted aspects of life to stay the same and those that favoured the shift into a more modern era. Historians therefore have debated whether or not protestsduring this period were due to a growing sense of community, or that an expression of community was simply a by product of other reasons for protestsuch as economic discontent or xenophobic attacks on foreigners. In conclusion, the protest that took place in 1517 was indeed instigated by xenophobic leaders that utilised foreign workers as scapegoats and within the protest one could argue that there were some aspects of community. Having said this, the protest was clearly a by product of economic and social discontent that did not represent the whole community at all. A healthy family system promotes healthy development however there are many things that could upset the balance of the family system. Henson described an unhealthy family system as dysfunctional (Family Systems, 2017). He uses his own life story by describing how his mother left him and his father. This would make a family unbalanced as the role of the mother is no longer in the picture. With his father s several remarriages, it caused him to carry anxiety into his adulthood. Anxiety can affect a child s social development. A child that doesn t have a stable mother figure could possibly grow up fearing women or may make their own relationships with women difficult. If a family is living in an abusive situation, that could affect the victim s emotional, spiritual, physical and social development. A child who gets abused by a parent could become more isolated. It could affect their self esteem. Abuse can physically affect the development of a mother s unborn child. A fish trap is a big, fixed wooden structure, placed at the mouth of a stream to funnel to tons of fish into a massive net. Fish traps were also adapted to float so they could be a little bit easier to transfer in the winter. Fishtraps needed little labor to keep them running, and they also kept the fish live which was important to the seller, which made them a good economic investment. The extensive use of the fish traps, and other fixed fishinggear heavily impacted the region and the Native people of Alaska. Fish traps were a very controversial topic throughout Alaska in the 50 s and 60 s. These fixed fish traps were extremely efficient, catching almost 600,000 fish annually and, they had a very low escape rate. Fish traps caught so many salmonthat areas were completely depleted, and left Native villages without one of their main sources of food. The result of the residents of Alaska unhappiness with fish traps made the White Act of 1924 come into play.
