Framework of the Body Support of the body
The Skeletal System -it is made up of bones that keep your body upright. Skeleton- is the hardened framework of the body that serves to support and protect soft tissues.
Two types of Skeleton 1. Exoskeleton (external)- is a hard body covering found in some animals like insects, crabs, and shrimps. The organs of these animals are located inside the skeleton.
2. Endoskeleton (internal) Is a skeleton found inside the body of animals with backbones like dogs, snakes and humans.
Total number of bones of humans Baby- 350 bones Adult- 206 bones
Functions of the Skeletal System 1 . It gives shape and form to the body. 2. It serves as anchor to which muscles are attached to help them move. 3. It produce red blood cells. 4. It serves as storage of calcium. 5. It protects some internal organs. 6. Allows us to move.
Parts of the Skeletal System  1 . Axial Skeleton (80 bones) a. skull– 29 bones in all 14 facial bones 6 ear bones 1 bone at the back of the tongue 8 cranium bones

b. backbone/spine—attached to the base of the skull. --26 bones called vertebrae

c. breastbone/sternum-
Sternum/Breastbone It encloses the heart and lungs. 24 ribs 10 pairs are attached to the breastbone 2 pairs are floating
2. Appendicular skeleton(126 bones) Bones that are attached to the axial skeleton. *** collar bones, shoulder blades, arm bones, hipbones and leg bones. A. collar bone/clavicle- 2 bones

clavicle
b. Shoulder blade/scapula -flat and triangular- 2 bones .c. Arm and hand bones-3 bones 1 upper and two lower 27 bones
d. Hipbones Attached to the backbone Hipbones form a ring called the 
e. Upper leg/femur- Longest bone in the body. Lower legs- 2 bones Each foot- 26 bones

Answer the following. 1. Other term for breastbone. 2. Number of an adult bone. 3. Number of a baby bone. 4. The longest bone. 5. Two main parts of the skeleton. 6. The framework of the body.

Name those bones. Name those bones. I have a cranium, for my brainium. And a mandible that's, my jawbone. And there's my clavicle, that's my collarbone. And my sternum keeps my ribs at home. Name those bones. Name those bones. All my vertebrae are running down my back From my head to my pelvic bone. My femur fits in there, a leg bone I declare It's the longest bone that I have grown. Name those bones. Name those bones. Patella fits in next, that's my kneecap, And below it are two more leg bones. My tibia in front, my fibula in back, Keep me running at school or home. Name those bones. Name those bones. Now moving down my arm, let's start with humerus Followed by two more arm bones. There's an ulna and a radius My ulna makes up my elbow bone. Name those bones. Name those bones. All my fingers, all my toes, They're called phalanges, everybody knows. And on my back you'll find, two shoulder blades in line, We call them scapula every time. Name those bones. Name those bones.
