duration. They have a captivating narrative
that entertains or informs an audience and
they are typically aimed at niche audiences.

Short films leave the audience ‘wanting more’
They always have a moral/message
Something has to be learnt/overcome/beaten
There needs to be a reason for it’s creation, thus a reason
for it’s audience viewing it.
Short films can also be used to promote big feature films
up and coming
Short films are also a way for up and coming student
filmmakers to get known, they can showcase a portion of
their talent and potential in a short space of time to
interest other filmmakers and producers.
5. Good short film qualities
An original idea: A strong original idea will avoid clichés and
similarities to other short films.
A Strong script: To make a good script for a short film the
storyline has to be condensed into the duration which can
be more difficult than a feature.
Strong performance: It’s ideal to have good actors in a
short film to keep the audience believing.
Strong beginning: This will instantly hook the audience and
keep their attention throughout.
