The education system in Pakistan is divided into five levels: primary school, middle school, high school, intermediate college/higher secondary, and undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. It is overseen by provincial governments, with the federal government assisting in curriculum development. Efforts have been made to expand access to education, such as incorporating early childhood education and establishing non-formal basic education schools in areas without formal schooling. Vocational education is also promoted at the high school level.

primary education was to be free and cumpulsory.
• Vocational education promoted in high school.
• After course they got jobs.
• 498 vocational institutes with enrolment of about 88
thousand in 2000-2001
• Side by side religious education system (madrasah
education)

provincial or federal govt:
• Grants-in-aids provided to these institutions by govt:
• In 2007 were 7761 religious institutions with enrolment of
1034,000, which 132,000 female students in 548 institutions.
• Efforts made by govt: to bring madrassah into mainstream.
• Purpose is to enlarge employment for graduates.
• Pakistan madrassah boards estabilish to regulate the madrassa
activities.
