A lathe machine is generally used in metalworking, metal spinning, woodturning, and glassworking. The various operations that it can perform include the following: sanding, cutting, knurling, drilling, and deforming of tools that are employed in creating objects which have symmetry about the axis of rotation. Some of the most common products of the lathe machine are crankshafts, camshafts, table legs, bowls, and candlestick holders.
The first lathe machine that was ever developed was the two-person lathe machine which was designed by the Egyptians in about 1300 BC. Primarily, there are two things that are achieved in this lathe machine set-up. The first is the turning of the wood working piece manually by a rope; and the second is the cutting of shapes in the wood by the use of a sharp tool. As civilizations progressed, there have been constant modifications and improvements over the original two-person lathe machine, most importantly on the production of the rotary motion.

- 2. NORTON BOX The Norton box is a mechanism formed of several gears for to fix the steps of the pieces to thread. (cut a screw).
- 3. LARGE STONE BENCH This is a piece made of foundry, very rigid and robust with internal ribbing. In your higher part carry the guides for the cars. To your left are find the principal head and to the right the conterpoint.

- 6. LONGITUDINAL CORRIEGE It Comprising the compound carriage, carrying tools and apron. Since the carriage supports and guides the cutting tool, it must be rigid and built with precision. It is moves on guides of the bench printing advancing movement to the tool
- 8. CROSS SLIDE The cross slide provides a motion perpendicular to the longitudinal carriage, and the tool can have a sideways movement as a result of the composition of the longitudinal and transverse.
- 10. SPLINDE The splinde is a long and threaded bar, located below the bed guides extending from the head to the counterpoint. It is engaged to the head so that its rotation can be reversed and adjusted to the longitudinal.
- 12. tailstock It is mount on the guides of the large stone bench. Your function are support the pieces that rotate when this are very long.
- 13. BRAKE The brake is use for to stop in case of emergence the lathe machine.
- 14. Cabinet leg It is the support of the lathe machine.
- 15. Spindle speed selector The spindle speed selector allows the operator to adjust the spindle speed of the machine.
- 16. Emergency Stop Button The emergency stop button turns off the power to the machine.
- 17. Motor Start Button The motor start button starts the electric drive motor for the machine. The motor start button does not control the spindle however, it does supply the power.
- 18. toolpost It is a device that hold the tool of cutting as a burin.
- 19. clutch It regulates speed of the engine.
