The Ohio Digital Bookshelf aims to reduce costs of higher education in Ohio through adopting open educational resources and digital textbooks. In its second year, it will pursue several strategies to meet goals of increasing learning outcomes and reducing annual cost increases of 8-13% per year. Initial pilots saw savings ranging from $0 to $500 per term for introductory psychology courses. Future strategies include expanding the participant community, promoting open resources, student research on impacts, mixed publisher models, comparative pricing, and leveraging the library role. The goals are to react to marketplace changes and cultivate a new digital commons.
