9. Ning

10. Ning is an online platform for people to create their own social networks, launched in October 2005. Ning appeals to people who want to create their own social networks around specific interests with their own visual design, choice of features and member data. The central feature of Ning is that anyone can create their own social network for a particular topic or need, catering to specific membership bases.

11. I was first introduced to Ning by Elliott Masie and the site he created, Learning Town. As you will see on the next slide, Ning allows blogs, networked discussions, video, photos, blogs.

13. With this model I created my own Ning site, Moving Social Media into the Classroom, but I expanded the widgets and include Twitter Tracker and a polling feature, Polldaddy.

18. BlogTalkRadio is a web-based platform that allows callers to host a live call-in internet broadcast using a computer and a phone. BlogTalkRadio is entirely web-based and requires no client download.

19. Appears to be popular in some Connectivist circles!

20. Just listening and calling in is free. But hosting your own show is 39-249$US/month

21. It was pretty easy!

23. Upstream= Internet TV Live or Recorded

24. This site allows you to broadcast from your PC or smart phone.

25. Checkout what the Associated Press said about the Decorah Eagles site. Teachers log on for class projects and about 23 volunteers staff the site's chat room from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST daily.

26. That’s a lot of distributed learners! Here is some info about the site.

27. Here is how they handle the chat room- rules to follow. Power is in diversity! Stick to business! Focus! Stay on track! Give others a chance!

29. When I signed up and took advantage of the offer to see if FB or Twitter “friends” had an Upstream channel, I was asked to give permission to access my basic public info.

30. I found one FB friend who also has an Upstream site.
