White Paper Part 2 Interactive Dooh ExperienceStephen Randall
Building an Interactive Digital Out of Home Experience - Basic Considerations for Mobile & Social Interactivity on Digital Out of Home Networks, August 2009
Executive Summary
Simple text-to-screen and photo-to-screen applications are commonplace at pop concerts. Twitter feeds are springing up in conferences. It can't be too hard to add an engaging mobile and social interactive applications to digital out of home ("DOOH") networks, right? Wrong. A capable interactive DOOH network supports real-time user engagement. Engagement might come from a user at the location or via the web (e.g. via a social network connected to the location through the affinity of a brand). Engagement might be sporadic or frequent, but whenever it happens, it creates an enhanced user experience as well as a measurable "mobile click." The resulting "pulse" for the location can then be used to help the location or advertiser improve services and/or messaging.

Overcoming Ghost Town - Leveraging the Network Effect to Enhance the Interactive Experience on Digital Out of Home Networks, August 2009
Executive Summary
The success of engaging users via interactive social media on Digital Out of Home ("DOOH") displays is highly dependant on location, audience and the context and user interface features. Many text-to-screen applications do not have the luxury of running in locations that are crowded every day, and the worst user experience for user generated content ("UGC") is to metaphorically crash an empty party. A screen with no messages or old messages is a poor advocate for participation. This "Ghost Town" problem can be cured by leveraging other messages from locations that are contextually connected to each other.
Being connected is now expected, and we’re seeing an increasing variety of connected products/systems across many different market verticals including sports & fitness
A presentation I created for class that tries to explain the different approaches in developing Artificial Intelligence through explanation and examples.

Concierge Onboarding: How to Make Customers Happy and Keep Them That WayProcessStreet
The 1980s was the dawn of technology as we know it. It was also the dawn of hilarious technological hyperbole — you could hear the excitement in the voices of companies declaring they had built ‘the only computer you’ll need for years to come‘. Although laughable in the present day, commercial home computers like the Commodore 64 were a huge improvement on the monstrous machines of past eras so unwieldy they had to be built into rooms. In fact, for the first time in history, you could buy your own computer.
Designing for an Augmented Reality worldthomas.purves
How “Augmented Reality” and the mobile web changes everything
Mobile broadband access and ever-smarter phones are shaking the internet out its lofty cloud and bringing the web into the real world. As a result, the old “real world”, and many old ideas and many old business models will be running out of places to hide from the pervasive influence of the net.
Meanwhile, each of our smart phones are in many ways even better than the old clunky tools we used to use to surf the net. Our mobile devices are not only connected but, also bristling with sensors like radios, cameras, microphones, GPS etc. that can directly perceive and interact with the world around you. We’re reaching a point where it’s theoretically possible to point that device at almost anything: a landmark, a product on a store shelf, your friends or a crowd of people; and draw from the cloud and your social graph as much, or perhaps more, relevant information than you ever wanted to know. Oh, and the cloud will be watching you and whatever’s around you as well.
In the new augmented reality, the web surfs you.
The goal of this talk will be to provide you with a fast paced overview of what this new “augmented” reality will mean for how we socialize, for how we sell and market physical products, for architecture, for media and entertainment, for public policy, crime, privacy and, as well, few early signals for what might be the new killer apps.
If all that is not interesting enough, I will also bring free beer.
Everyware - "the future is already here, it's just not well distributed yet"Mike Ellis
In this Ignite presentation, I examine the notion of "everyware" - the merging and flowing of data and content between virtual and real spaces and the layering of virtual content onto the real world. Although this isn't hugely new, I argue that the growing convergence between device ubiquity, network speed, lowering cost, user familiarity, accurate LBS, geo-lo'd services and higher computing power points to a horizon where everyware is becoming a reality at last
This is a museumy version of my Ignite Cardiff presentation - I presented it at UKMW09.
The basic premise is that I believe we're approaching a kind of "perfect storm" for mobile and ubiquitous computing: the dream has been around for a long time but now we're seeing network speed increasing, cost dropping, device capability improving. Now could be the time for cultural heritage to really embrace mobile...
Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

a few ideas for the future
3. intro and general idea
The mobile phones came a long way since the “big bang” in the
80’s. They evolved in every possible way they could – the size, the
shape, the technology etc, and all the way up to the purpose and
the way we are using them.
With every new generation, new much higher standards were set,
constantly introducing some new ways to improve the quality of
life – messaging, internet access, multimedia library, a powerful
game console, navigation system and many more.
4. intro and general idea
The hot trends of the moment include location based social media,
augmented reality, shopping, biometrics, community
recommendation etc.
Hot trends that marked the beginning of the so called Mobile 2.0
revolution and will definitely be the "talk of the town" in the future.
The whole 2.0 episode was triggered by the appearance of the
Smart phones followed by the explosion of touch screen devices.
With the birth of the iPhone came the app explosion that brought
hundreds of thousands of applications [ current figures: iTunes -
400,000+ apps; Android Market - 200,000+; 35,000+ ]
5. intro and general idea
The device of the future, whether it's the cell phone, tablet, gaming or
multimedia device, or perhaps a single device that is all that, will be the
information central, a fusion of social networks updates, latest news
headlines, essential information [ weather, traffic, notes...], email, web
browsing, shopping recommendations, IPTV and many more services we
increasingly depend on.
Complete data synchronization between different mobile [ and desktop ]
devices is, let’s say finally usable and will have to dramatically improve in
the years to come, perhaps powered by one of the services like OpenID,
Facebook Connect, Twitter Connect etc. - the story seems to be
developing in the right direction.

7. The device to come [ these days ] will need to
pay a lot of attention to the visual component as
the last few products that came out yesterday.
That will definitely have to apply to the
hardware and software parts. Minimalistic
approach to the design combined with the
absolute ease of use and upgrade, simple,
customizable and clean user interface.
We’re not quite there yet, but it’s getting better and better!
8. user interface
…needs to pay more attention
to what user experience is
talking about…
This is really not some NASA
space technology stuff, it’s more
of a hint on possible
improvements of the already
implemented technology.
I have a feeling that this
presentation is going outdated as

all over again :)
10. It would also be nice if we
could “dock” anywhere, but
without having to carry an
extra item along :)
… we just didn’t quite invented it jet… :)
11. a few other thoughts on the future
Mobile device of the future will be "more human". Besides being
the life organizer, personalized and fully customized tool, it will be
the tool for creation, sharing, collaboration, productivity, learning,
shopping etc, bringing different people to the new kinds of online
communities - networks of blogs, discussion forums, twitter feeds
etc, the places to practice free speech, give opinion, get critics,
meet people, find a dream job ... It would become a true Digital
Urban Network - user generated, user moderated, user exploited.
12. a few other thoughts on the future
Mobiles in social networking already offer amazing
things, but in the future, mobiles will be the driving force
of the social development projects and programmes with
organizations like UN, UNICEF, WHO, WFO, WWF, Amnesty
International, Greenpeace...
13. a few other thoughts on the future
In some African countries, mobile phones are not only a valid
payment system but a powerful tool against corruption. The
future might bring some exciting new banking services on our
smart phones, including online banking, currency exchange,
stock exchange, and hopefully fast web shop checkouts allowing
the purchase with just one click. Then there are enormous
possibilities with QR Codes - for example: QR code placed on a
City Light, poster, direct mail... which is then scanned using a
Smartphone. The link takes you to a mobile web store with one
click purchase button. If you decide to buy the product, just click
the button and wait until it's delivered to you.
14. a few other thoughts on the future
It's not just something from the SciFi movies, smart phones are
already capable of replacing your wallet and its contents, it's a
matter of day when our phone is going to host our drivers license,
I.D. card, passport, medical record...
15. a few other thoughts on the future
Travel guides on mobile - absolutely amazing! No way you'll be lost
with GPS navigation, Location Based Services, Local offers, buying
tickets for museums, public transport, Layer services and all that
enhanced with rich media, audio, video, social media... Definitely a
publication that can deserves the "All in your pocket" title.
16. In order all those ideas to stop being
the Future and actually become the Present,
there will have to be more cooperation,
more freedom, and a lot of patience.
And yes, a little money issue perhaps? :)
In that case, there is a YouTube clip
that it would only be appropriate to end the slide:
