Lab Report Ph Indicator Results
RESULTS
One drop of phenolphthalein indicator was added to each Well in row A and the color of each
solution was recorded in Data Table A. Wells A1 through A4 remained clear and transparent. A5
turned a murky pink. The A5 pencil mark on the paper below the Wells was still slightly visible. A6
turned a clear light pinkish purple.
The pH of each Well in row B1 to B6 was tested with a pH strip.
B1 turned the pH strip a dark pink or red rose color, the pH was recorded at one. B2 turned the pH
strip an orange color that had a pink hint to it, the pH was recorded at three. B3 turned the pH strip
an orange color with a darker ring of orange, almost red around it, the pH was recorded at four. B4

The color in Well C1 was a transparent light pink rose color, the pH was estimated to be between
two and three. This estimate is slightly higher than that of the pH strip test. The color in Well
C2 was a transparent redder pink, the pH was estimated to be around a two. This estimate is
slightly higher than that of the pH strip test. The color in Well C3 was transparent and was a
similar color to Well C1 but with lighter orange and pink, the pH was estimated to be around a
three. This estimate is slightly lower than that of the pH strip test. The color in Well C4 was a
transparent light green, the pH was estimated to be around a seven. The estimate of pH from the
universal indicator is the same as that of the pH strip test. The color in Well C5 was a
transparent darker green with hints of blue, the pH was estimated to be between a seven and an
eight. The estimates are roughly the same, between all three of the pH tests. The color in Well C6
was transparent was a dark blue, purplish color, the pH was estimated to be a thirteen or a
fourteen. This estimate is slightly higher than that of the other tests, this could be due to numerous
factors. One factor could be that the pH test simply did not reach pH s of 13 and 14, like in the
case of the pH strip test. Another factor is that the first attempt at administering the indicator in
Well C6, the drop from the pipette missed and hit

Who Is Masakado A Villain
Japan in the 10th century was experiencing change and disorder as its relatively new central
government sought techniques for a strong and enduring legacy. In this period lived a man
named Taira no Masakado. In events which are swirled with mystery and legend, Masakado
found himself in direct opposition with the government, even proclaiming the title of the New
Emperor . His legacy endures to this day and is a fundamental component in contemporary
Japanese folklore. Was Masakado a product of his environment or a self motivated rebel,
examining this question is important in the discussions of the motivations behind his actions.
Whether he should be viewed as a villain or a hero is to be considered by the reader. Taira no

Having just been found innocent in Kyoto for his attacks in Hitachi, would it not make sense
for Masakado to bring accusations against Yokishane? Masakado does not seek government help
in deterring Yokishane, this suggests that he knew he was in the wrong and was hesitant to
return to Kyoto, mainly because he felt as if he got lucky at his previous hearing. Skipping to
Masakado s confrontation with Sadamori in Hitachi, as Masakado wins the battle, storming the
provincial capital grounds in the process, one gets a sense of the sudden panic defining his
proceeding actions. Masakado immediately flees home to Shimosa. Once home, in an utterly
confusing turn of events, Masakado heads out again, this time to conquer a handful of other
eastern provinces. Instead of formerly addressing the rulers in Kyoto as the new emperor of the
east or even as an adversary, Masakado writes a letter in an attempt to explain his actions and
how they are justified. Using his imperial family ties, he tries to undermine the stories of his
actions as propaganda from his opposers and claim that he remains loyal to the government. This
is the act of a desperate man; a man who, maybe, has realized that he has made a grave mistake.
Masakado wanted to believe that his conquests were justified, yet based on his actions it is
apparent that he was not and knew it. Not having a strong cause and knowing he made a

the sacred ark was built at Mount Sinai and was taken by the israelites along with them to Canaan.
When Israel had been conquered by the Philistines, the ark was taken from Shiloh in order that
yahweh should aid his people. When the Philistines yet conquered and captured the ark, the many
misfortunes that overtook them made them think that the possession of the ark was destructive to
them and they sent it back. The ark then stayed in a holy tent for priests until King Solomon

Evil Stereotypes Of Gay Marriage And Gay Rights
It wasn t until my best friend and I sat on the empty curb of a recently closed Baskin Robbins that
I realized all of my preconceptions of homosexual marriage and gay rights were miserably wrong
and that from then on, my beliefs on the topic were going to change drastically.
That night, my best friend confessed he was gay and his revelation was something my Catholic
morals could not digest. I was born into a homophobic family and raised into believing that
homosexuals were associated with evil. But how could this be? One of the nicest people I knew
was gay? His words were so alien I felt like I was somewhere else and later, I pitied him for being
gay. I pitied him so much I would pray for him, treating homosexuality like it was an illness because
that was what I was raised to believe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

never confirmed my beliefs. Instead, I became more confused because later, more of my kindest
friends began coming out to me and I came to befriend many homosexuals. In the end, I concluded
that all of my homosexual friends were perfect they had amazing personalities and completely

The, Indian Man And Woman Eating By Theodore De Bry
When the first time John White sailed to the North America in 1585, native americans would
never be strange to Europeans. As an artist, during his time at Roanoke Island, White drew a
number of vivid watercolors of the scenery, culture and the native people, which were published as
A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. To Europeans, these works were the
most informative illustrations of North America. After these works published, an engraver, named
by Theodore De Bry, made a series of engravings directly from John White s paintings. However,
the engravings were unable to be an accurate depiction of North America. If viewers watch them
roughly, they are very similar, but there are some slight but crucial differences in detailed. The
image Indian Man and Woman Eating by John White depicts a man and a woman are seated
facing each other on a stipe of matting. There is a container with a bunch of circular fruits
between their feet. It seems that each of them is covered by a clothing made by turkey feather in
a certain style at that time. Their faces are flat with peace, but also there are some tattoos on their
faces. The man s ears are pierced by a shell ornament and the woman tied with a bead knot. Behind
them, there are standing a few plants. In the engraving Their sitting at meate created by De Bry,
there are some changes appear: their facial structure alters, which looks more like Europeans; the

The Case Of Gideon V. Wainwright
One of the main purposes of our judicial system is to produce fair results. This way the
defendant is not convicted for something that they did not do. Although this is supposed to be the
case, our society is set up in a way where the rich people have more of an advantage when it
comes down to being provided with a lawyer than the poor. In the case of Gideon v. Wainwright
, in
1963, the Supreme Court decided that to ensure fair trial, a counsel must be provided for the
defendants that cannot afford one. Although the Sixth Amendment only says that someone has the
right to a counsel, the purpose for a lawyer is to protect the innocent. This cannot happen if the
lawyer does a poor job defending their client. This is why the Supreme Court should set a new
precedent stating that everyone is entitled to a high quality defense. A high quality defense would
look like someone who presents good arguments that helps back up a side. They are well prepared
and knowledgeable about the case. Furthermore, they are well rounded people with good
interpretation and speaking skills. Most importantly though, they are good listeners, patient, logical,
observance, and open minded about the issue. With that, they have to be able to know how to deal
with the issue and come up with alternatives.
Gideon was charged for breaking and entering. He could not afford a lawyer and as a result of
that he had requested for a lawyer. However, his request was denied by the judge because the judge
stated that

King Afonso Pestel Influence Essay
The Portuguese presence in King Afonso s kingdom had many detrimental effects, including ones
derived from the trade of excess goods, illegal slavery, and disease. According to King Afonso, the
Portuguese coming into the Kongo undermined his authority when they they gave away a profusion
of goods. Portuguese officials were allowing merchants to set up shops and sell goods that were
prohibited, and this was done in such abundance that the people lower than the King no longer
obeyed the authority, because they possessed more of the items than the authority themselves. In
his letter, Afonso mentioned that ...many of our vassals, whom we had in obedience, do not comply
because they have the things in greater abundance than we ourselves... (paragraph... Show more

The Portuguese also debilitated the King s authority by establishing a corrupted, out of control
slave trade. At first, King Afonso had welcomed business and the trading of slaves. But as time
went on, the Portuguese took things too far. Afonso makes a huge point of this in his letter,
writing ...the mentioned merchants are taking every day our natives, sons of the land and the
sons of our noblemen and vassals and our relatives...and so great, Sir, is the corruption and
licentiousness that our country is being completely depopulated... (paragraph two). Instead of
taking and selling people of no importance in his kingdom, the Portuguese were taking noblemen
and other respected people as slaves. It was this horrific act that infuriated King Afonso, and his
kingdom would have soon be desolate of people if this type of slave trade continued. The
disadvantageous effects didn t stop there with the Portuguese, for they were also sending a lot of
civilians over to the Kongo that brought with them disease and sickness. The people of King
Afonso s kingdom had no way of being immune to these illnesses, and according to him this was an
enormous disservice to

The purpose of this report is to critically analyse the financial ratio results of Morrison 2008 and
2009 as an equity analyst and compare it with like for like by using Tesco supermarket. To achieve
this report will be looked at in four main areas. Firstly, we will use financial ratios obtained from
annual reports of 2008 and 2009 to analysis and appraise Morrison s financial performance. This
would be followed by a comparative analysis with Tesco, for the same period. In addition, a trend
analysis will be done to show the pattern of Morrison s financial performance over the years 2006

A safe margin in liquidity for the retail industry is often below 1:1. Morrisons Current
Liability(CL) are far too higher than the current assts and that has greatly affected the ratios.
Using long term borrowing to fund current assets will improve this ratio as will profits that
generate cash flow. These results mean that Morrison s ability to meet its short term obligations
have improved slightly. The CR was up by 0.4:1 from 2008 to 2009 and the QR by 0.3:2
respectively. However, Morrison may not be able to pay off its bill as quickly as it should and this
may keep its suppliers unhappy and unwilling to give eager service.
Over four years the ratio has continued to increase with a slight dip in 2007.
In general, Tesco showed a better growth margin than Morrison in the two years by improving CR
by 0.18:1 from 2008 to 2009.
Morrison s CR figure in 2009 is unfortunately, not in line with the industry average of 0.70:1. and
neither is their QR. Morrison results have fallen behind the Industry figure of 0.69:1 (London Stock
Exchange, 2009).

How Did The Russian Revolution Affect The Economy Between...
The economic situation of Russia from 1855 1917 undoubtedly had some influence on both the
revolutions of 1905 and 1917. Furthermore, in 1891 Russia faced a famine leaving 40,0000 dead,
followed by an economic slump in 1905. The First World War (1914 1918) had a drastic effect on
Russian economy and society, with vast amounts of money spent on munitions. Some would argue
that the economy was the main cause for both revolutions in 1905 and 1917. Nevertheless,
according to the definition of a revolution; to overthrow a government or social order, in favour of
a new system , it could not have been the economy alone, but other events such as war and society
that contributed to the Russian revolutions of 1905 and 1917.

During World War 1, Russian causalities were high and soldiers deserted in large numbers.
Whilst previous wars had got a somewhat positive backing from the public, people were
desperate for this to end whilst it also drained Russian of its resources and held over 14 million
men in active service. The Great War drove already unhappy people to revolt against the regime
before the war had even officially ended showing its severity. Some would argue here however it
still shows how important the economy was, as it was a crippling one surrounding a mass scale
war that caused the people to revolt. This also echoes another important factor in both revolutions
of 1905 and 1917 in that life in Russia including during war was a strain whilst food, fuel and raw
materials remained short. Another view considering the cause of the 1905 and 1917 revolution in
Russia is rather than being due to one solid event it is rather the general life of Russians, who
revolted due to being dissatisfied. An extract from Witte s Diary states a general feeling of profound
discontent with the existing

Footloose Analysis
I saw Footloose, directed by John Wilson and written by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, on
Thursday in the Highlander Theatre at UCM. The story is about a high school boy who moves to
a small town with his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is
against the law to dance. Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the
town has the right to express themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s
note, and gave a spiel about what he believed the audience should take away from the show. His
goal was for us to make a connection with how the youth and the adults found a way to work
through their problems by talking it out. I believe this is an extraordinary message in today s
society as technology is embraced by the youth and shunned by the older generations. However, I
believe that other parts of the show, such as the relationship between the reverendand his wife, had
a much larger impact than the message that he had hoped to send. There were many parts of the
acting that I believe if worked on would have given the show substantially more impact. Granted, it
is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene, in such a way that the audience loses
themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the characters are feeling. However, the
two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that John hoped to send were simply
underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit

The Importance Of Pornography
Being raised in a Cristian Mexican culture home, I was taught early in life to view adult content
material such as pornography as taboo. My Father was a strict strong minded man with high
morals; raising four girls and one boy. My Mother on the other hand more on the passive side, yet
she shared the same views as my Father when it came to pornography. I can vividly recall one
summer day, playing hide and seek with the neighborhood children. It was a normal day, until a
few of the children went missing, when we located them they were viewing a pornographic
magazine, an older child was exposing them too. At the tender age of seven years old, I could not

(57) Although, strongly agreeing that a grey area covers definition of what art is, how a person
should behave; actions and manners, has a strong impact in our society. Nevertheless, American
s should not have to worry about who or who does not feel insulted by what they do in the
privacy of their own home. What one views as entertainment another may have a different
opinion. Watching, reading, or listening to pornography is no different than watching, reading
or listening to religious material in one s home. It is a personal choice. Like with every other
type of controversial material common sense should be practice. If it is not a private home
where adult content is being shared or discussed and there are children present adults should be
respectful and censor on their own what to expose them to and what to protect them from.
Returning back to the first Amendment. I strongly feel it is our right as American s to express
our freedom or to allow others to do so as they please. Everyone is free to disagree but we cannot
decide what is right for another person solely on our own personal emotions. It should be the head
of house to decide what is allowed in their own home not the Government. Jacobi makes a valid
point when she says feminist are pro censorship because they want the Government to intervene and
create laws to get their own point access for personal gratification.

Performance Management And Performance Appraisal
1.Introduction
1.1.Performance management and performance appraisal
The definition of the term performance management varies in different literatures. As
Hutchinson(2013) summed up, combined with Den Harton s theory(2004), it is a continuous
process which links individual and team objectives with organizational goals by measure and
improve employee s skill and performance. According to Armstrong (2012), human resource
management aims at making sure the organization has the most talented, skilled and engaged people
in order to attain its goals. In this context, performance management is one staple practice helping
managers identifying and retaining most competent employees as well as correcting poor
performance.
In a typical and effective process of performance management, as demonstrated in Figure 2.1,
performance appraisal is not the only but a vital element because it is the activity which evaluate
the outcome of the work, recognize the achievement and weaknesses and give employees and
managers a straightforward result on these(Armstrong, 2009, Hutchinson, 2013). From a modern
perspective, performance appraisal covers more areas not only on what have been achieved but also
on the attitude and contribution of the operator (Hutchinson, 2013), which enhance the functions of
identifying training needs.

The Passionate Shepherd Of His Love By Christopher Marlowe
Since the beginning of humankind, people have sought partners to share their lives with.
Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and
tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without
companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love
by Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find
companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by
natural beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s
reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love in 1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the
previous poem but is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself.
With both poems having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the
Nymph and the Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the
Shappard are incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The
Shepherd does not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her
own, and he is a romantic while she is a realist. One desires the life of those in the garden of Eden
while the other denies its existence. Marlow opens The

HN220: Prevention and Crisis Intervention
Professor Kristy McCan Vukoder
Unit 2 Project: June 19, 2012
A crisis can be a terrible burden on any individual that has or is suffering through one; a crisis
can leave a person with a great deal of anxiety and stress. As a crisis intervention worker it is my
responsibility to at least try to help those that come into my office. Most that do come to me are
going through a crisis of some kind or another and need to work through it. To help them work
through their crisis I find that the ABC Model of Crisis Intervention is a great asset. The ABC
Model of Crisis Intervention is an effective approach because I can provide temporary immediate ...

After I had established rapport with Jill and ensured that we had a reciprocal relationship I was
then able to move on to the next phase. Stage B of the ABC Model of Crisis Intervention is mainly
focused around identifying the problem. This can be considered the most crucial aspect of the ABC
Model for providing therapeutic interaction. Identifying the precipitating event is important but
exploring the client s perceptions and cognitions are even more important. If I was to actually help
Jill then I had to find out her thoughts and feelings revolving around the situation.
I already know that Jill is scared of her husband and that he does stuff to her when she does not
respond the way he wants sexually. But now that I have gained Jill s trust and we have moved
into the B phase I can now get more specific. I decided to start out with some open ended
questions so that I was able to guide the conversation but also let her take over talking. After the
opening question I posed I was then able to tie all of my other questions to what Jill had just said.
My reasoning for this is because when a question is posed effectively essential information can be
better gathered (Kanel, 2008).
In addition to posing my questions the best I could I also made sure to paraphrase throughout the
interview. Paraphrasing is very useful because it helps me clarify what my clients have said. It is
smart to clarify so that not only you

What Are The Two Main Points From Kathryn Minshew s 1960s
The two main points from Kathryn Minshew s presentation were: 1. How the Muse came to be
and how the early Muse was different from the current Muse. When starting a company, you see
the big picture, where you want to be but the reality is the early stages aren t glamorous. 2. The
new rules for finding the right path, landing the best fit job and advancing your career. In order to
find the right path, you must start with your values and what matters to you. There is no single
dream job, but rather than multiple best fit jobs. Build relationships, manage up and know what
your boss expects as you advance in your career. I will apply this information to my life by using

Comparing Sports Psychology
The word athletics comes from the Greek word athlos, and it means contest or task. The two
articles, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary
School Students in Track and Field by Blatsis Petros, et. al., and Sport Psychology: the Ultimate
Spring Board of Excellence by Jitendra Mohan, are both written in different sub disciplines of
athletics, and therefore, the purposes of the articles differ. The articles are based on the similar
topics, but the authors wrote the articles for different disciplines; therefore, the articles differ in
language, structure, and the reference style they use.
II. Structure The articles employ different structures; one is written in chronological order and the
other is organized by problem and solution. Sport Psychology: the Ultimate Spring Board of
Excellence is formatted so that the reader can understand the origins of sport psychology. The

The similarities were fewer than the differences, but that was mostly because they were written

will provide a holistic view of the concept. It will expand other s point of view and will cause them
to get a better understanding. Many disciplines research this topic because athletics can come from
a mental, physical, and/or emotional perspective. The article, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on
the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary School Students in Track and Field had a
physical and emotional perspective toward athletics. On the other hand, the article, Sport

athletics. Thus, the different perspectives and disciplines will cause the authors to write the articles

Resistance By Bachrach Debor The Resistance
Resistance is seen in many parts of daily life. For example, take a baby that will not eat its food
and hits the food away when the food is brought to close to the babies mouth. Or a dog that
refuses to go on a walk after a person has put on the dog s leash. One of the most important
aspects of resistance is refusing. This is because it shows what a person believes in and what a
person will do to achieve their beliefs. In genocide, few people resist the group in power because
most victims are too afraid to show what they believe in because of the repercussions. Those who
do resist the group in power strongly believe that what the group in power is doing is wrong.
People who resist genocide make a difference in the outcome of the genocide by... Show more

Throughout the book The Faces of Resistance, author Stuart Kallen gives examples of people
who resisted the Holocaust. He does so by going into depth of their situations and in what ways
they resisted the Nazis. One of the examples was a man named Raoul Wallenberg who saved
100,000 lives at the cost of his own life. Wallenberg gave Jews passports bearing the Swedish
seal. Wallenberg set up hospitals, nurseries, and soup kitchens. When Nazis began death
marches Wallenberg issued thousands of Swedish safe passes. He followed groups of Nazis that
were carrying Jews. Wallenberg also protested for the release of Jews from German and
Hungarian custody. Wallenberg began offering bribes and he stood between Jews and their
captors saying that they should take him instead. He also forged papers and driver s licenses
(Kallen). As seen here, Raoull Wallenberg took every possible step to ensure he could save as
many Jews as possible from captivity. In any genocide, if more people are brave enough to risk
their own lives to save the victims of the genocide, then there would not be nearly as many
casualties. In conclusion, if more people were willing to risk their lives for victims of the genocide
then there would not be nearly as many deaths in the outcome of the

Analysis Of The Movie Birth Of A Nation
Give a description of a scene that incorporates a more modern language of filmmaking via shots,
lighting, editing. Birth of a Nation has a lot of scenes the movie itself is 3 hours long however
in one specific scene D.W. Griffith manages to incorporate many modern filmmaking techniques.
The scene in which Flora goes to retrieve water and is abruptly met by Gus incorporates many
modern techniques. In this scene we see the use of close up shots to focus on character reactions
from both Gus and Flora. We also see the use of close ups to focus on objects other characters are
looking at such as Flora looking at a squirrel in a tree. Finally, we also see the use of natural
lighting in this scene as the entirety of the scene is shot outside. This an instance of a form of
cinematic realism that is confused for the reality of reconstruction politics after the death of
Lincoln. What stereotypes are perpetrated in this film? The film consistently perpetuates
stereotypes that the African American community are less than human and more like animals. This
is done through how they act, the film itself depicts them as being uncivilized. Within the film
there are scenes where many African American characters have taken political office and are
shown taking their shoes off and being lazy, and eating food openly during political hearings. The
film also depicts most African Americans as being evil or criminals. The film itself shows Gus
attempting to harm Flora due to her refusing

Question 1:
Since Agro Chem has sufficient internally generated capital they can buy the equipment outright
which will impact the analysis. Normally by financing the equipment you have to pay interest
payments which are used as a tax shield. However, by purchasing the equipment outright Agro
Chem will miss out on the tax shield and introduces opportunity costs because the money could
have been invested.
Question 2:
By using the 7.2% after tax rate and assuming the equipment will be sold at the beginning of the
5th year for its book value, if Agro Chem bought the equipment the company would achieve a
project NPV of ($1,043,500.23). In contrast, if Agro Chem decided to lease the equipment with the
same assumptions they would obtain a project NPV of ($1,030,205). Given these assumptions and
based off our calculated NPV we recommend that Agro Chem lease the equipment rather than buy
because of the $13,295.23 savings. This $13,295.23 savings is the NAL.

Implementation Of A New Operating System
Ava s software company has received a contract to design an operating system which runs and
operates a computer system used to handle stock buying and selling process. Which scheduling
strategy would you recommend for this new operating system? Please support your answer and
provide reasons for it. (10 points)
Ans) In the computer world, multitasking is a method where multiple tasks or processes are
performed during the same period of time that is they are executed concurrently. Multitasking doesn
t necessarily means that multiple tasks are executing at exactly the same instant. As such, more than
one undertaking can be part path through execution in the meantime, and that more than one errand
is propelling more than a time of time is called multitasking, not at all like parallel execution.
Operating system might adopt one of many scheduling strategies, which normally fall into the
following categories:
1)Multiprogramming: In these systems, the running task keeps running until it performs an
operation that requires waiting for an external event or until the running task is forcibly swapped
out of the CPU by the computer s scheduler. These systems are designed to maximize the processor
usage.
The above figures show that memory can expand to hold three, four or more programs and switch
among all of them.
2)Time Sharing: In these systems, the running task is required to abandon the processor, either
willingly or by an outside event such as hardware interrupt. Time

The Internet And World Wide Web Essay
On January 1, 1983, Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Internet and just a few years later in
1990 Tim Berners Lee changed the world forever by inventing the beautiful and ever useful World
Wide Web. Most would use the terms internet and World Wide Web interchangeably, however they
are not the same at all. The Internet is an indescribably large network of networks while the World
Wide Webis a refined way of gaining access to information on the internet. A really easy way to
think about it is that the internet is connecting computers to other computers; whereas, the web is
connecting people with one another. It is truly amazing how useful this invention is in todays
world. It is arguably one of the most used inventions of the twenty first century, maybe ever. It is
definitely not arguable however that the internet and the World Wide Web are essential to modern
daily life in the developed world. In most first world countries, the internet is used in every
classroom, in every business office, and in every store front. So much so that stores now use Free
Wi Fi as a marketing technique to get customers to come to their store rather than another. The
internet is a wonderful facilitator of globalization; however, like many things in the world, the
internet needs to be better regulated by international powers. The international community needs to
realize that there is a very serious problem considering the lack of governance of the internet. There
are so many good things

Socioeconomic Class
Socioeconomic Class and Behavior It took me years to understand that humans generally divide
themselves according to their socioeconomic status. I realized that the clothes I wear, the car I
drive, and the way I live is all a way to prove to my peers that my family is in the upper middle
class. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are
only my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my
friend solely on personality and common interests. Somehow, my friend group was always
viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been perplexed at
the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no
matter what school, town, or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how
socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups in adolescents and what social class
tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article
called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by
Rashmita Mistry et al. This study was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I
started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how children understand
socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning
about socioeconomic classes. It first states that socioeconomic class is

Parallelism In Grapes Of Wrath

Renewal in The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck usually uses California and the Salinas valley as his setting and is usually
placed in the 30s when the great depression occurred. The Grapes of Wrath is about a family
living in Oklahoma and they are farmers during the period called the dustbowl in which culture
was rough because there were droughts and conditions were not suitable for farming. This family,
because they are not doing too well, decide to move to California to find jobs and dignity. The
author writes about the struggle of a family during and Great Depression and also the struggle of
each individual as their lives are being torn apart. He not only shows how they go through these
hardships, but also how they will overcome them. In John Steinbeck s novel, The Grapes of Wrath,
he argues that all who follow the ways of the Bible will become renewed at the end. He uses
religion and parallelism in order to bring to light, the chance of hope that is evident within dire
circumstances, and project changes within people during turmoil.
The Grapes of Wrath incorporates parallels between both the Old Testament and the New
Testament. Steinbeck uses biblical symbols from the book Exodus to tell the story of the Joad
family s journey to California. The Dust Bowl, which is the reason they are leaving Oklahoma, is a
representation of the plague. Another symbol used in this novel is Noah s Ark. This represents the
truck they used

The Transgender Side Of The Lgbt Movement
Throughout American history, numerous influential social movements arose, such as the civil
rights movement, the youth movement, and the animal rights movement. However, one of the
most prominent and rapidly changing movements in the past year, 2015, has been the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, the advocacy for equal rights between heterosexual
and LGBT individuals. In this year, the LGBT movement made many crucial achievements. Starting
off the year, in February of 2015, the Human Rights Campaign began a movement named the
People s Brief. The purpose of this campaign was to gain nationwide support for the LGBT
movement. The group ended up gaining over 200,000 signatures which was many more signatures
than any other brief ever given to the Supreme Court. The transgenderside of the LGBT movement
also had major successes in 2015. After Caitlyn Jenner came out, the movement changed drastically.
It sparked many transgender people to come out to the media and discuss the inequalities and
violence that trans people face in society. However, perhaps the most important victory for the
LGBT was the legalizing of gay marriage across the country. This event happened on June 26, 2015
when the supreme court declared that denying two people the right to marry, regardless of gender,
is unconstitutional. Even though just a few accomplishments were named, many others occurred
that also had major impacts on the LGBT movement ( Best ). Although in recent months the

Becoming A Knights Essay
The knights were the third level of feudal society in Europe. Knights were usually vassals who
paid protection and loyalty to their lords in return for land. They were warriors in armor who
fought on horseback and had to have a good deal of wealth in order to afford a full suit of armor
and a horse. Knights wore coats of armor made from metal links called mail and carried swords
and shields. A knights tactic when fighting in war was that he would charge at his enemies then
spear them with his lance. During the time period of AD 700s to AD 1200s, the knights were
the most powerful soldiers in Europe. Becoming a knight in Europe was a very tough task that
started at a very young age. In the beginning of the dreadful path to becoming a knight, a boy was

A page at a young age learned how to ride a horse and received religious instruction from the
local priest or friar. Pages mostly spent their times with the ladies of the castle during the first
stage of knight training. They had to help the ladies in every way possible. In return, ladies
taught the pages how to sing, dance, compose music, and play the harp, which were skills
valued in knights. The young boy then became a squire after seven years of being a page. In this
part of training, the young boy spent most of his time with the knight who was his lord instead
of the ladies. With the knight, he polished the armor, sword, shield, and lance. The young boy
also then helped care for the knight s horse and even waited on him at mealtime, carrying water
for hand washing and filling his empty cup. Besides the fact of serving the knight who was his
lord, the squire trained to become warriors. During this part of the training, the squire learned
how to fight with a sword and a lance, which was a type of spear that was up to fifteen feet long.

On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis

The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they
were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation
that the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed.
Christopher was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence
implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second,
Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel).
This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target.
The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing
and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as
well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead
with the arrests. It is rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced
confession given by Jessie is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police
and brings the credibility of the department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers

Essay on Genetics Are the Main Cause of Psychopathy

(Malcolm) Whereas some may argue that psychopaths are developed more from their environment,
the characteristic traits and neurological data prove genetics are the main cause of psychopathy.
Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a constellation of interpersonal, affective

Subsequent studies in youth with conduct disorder show that the parents socialization with their
children has less of an affect upon the development of conduct problems, suggesting more genetic
significance in youth who are notably callous. (Dolan). Mental retardation, lower intelligence and
inability to learn basic communication and language skills have been reported in youth considered
psychopathic. Also reported is the severe psychopathy occurring from the youths parents. These
parents have issues such as extreme maladjustment, chronic alcoholism, and many incarcerations
for criminal acts. (Bezdjian). In order to confirm, tests have been made to assess psychopathic
traits in youth. These tests have been recreated from the adult versions. The psychopathy checklist
is a scale test used for youth ages thirteen to eighteen, it has the same factor structure as the adult
PCL R test from which it was created and focuses on interpersonal aspects of personality and
chronic antisocial structure. The psychopathy screening device is used for youth ages six to

the youth psychopathic traits inventory, which is a self report of fifty items which focus on core
personality correlations of youth and psychopaths. (Dolan).

British Crime Survey Chapter 1 Summary
This book aims to take on the main issues involved in modern contemporary society and
victimology, issues such as the media, race, gender, class and age. Each chapter is specific to a
particular element of victimology so to try and avoid broad sweeping statements but instead to
give in depth insight into each element (e.g. gender). The book was published in 2007 so is not
outdated and is written by three different authors which means opinions are not unfairly based on
one person s view.
Chapter one is about the foundations of victimisation, the social division in society due to the key
issues which the authors go on to investigate in further chapters, and the relationship that this social
division has with victimisation. This chapter introduces other themes too like social inequality,
media representation of victimisation, political responses to victims, and the authors also draw
attention the British Crime Survey, pointing out that there is an over reliance on it and it may not

In chapter eight the authors seem to have a focus on society being fixated with young people
being offenders and very rarely in the spotlight as victims. Once again British Crime Survey data

reflect an agenda by the interviewer (p214). The theme of social exclusion is picked up in this
chapter in that children are marginalised in the policy making process, all in all this chapter
defends young people greatly, perhaps to offer an alternative argument to the traditional. Chapter
nine leads a balanced discussion on old age how it relates to victimisation, and how it is a socially

Search Theory, Linear And Random Walk Moving Target On The...
Abstract. This paper presents the cooperation between two searchers at the origin to seek for a
random walk moving target on the line. Any information of the target position is not available to
the searchers all the time. Rather than finding the conditions that make the expected value of the
first meeting time between one of the searchers and the target is finite, we show the existence of the

Recently, Mohamed et al. [15] studied this problem when the target moves on one of n intersected
real lines in which any information of the target position is not available to the searchers all the
time. Mohamed et al. formulate a search model and find the conditions under which the expected
value of the first meeting time between one of the searchers and the target is finite. Furthermore,
they showed the existence of the optimal search plan that minimizes the expected value of the
first meeting time and found it. More recently, El Hadidy [16] considered a search problem for a
d dimensional Brownian target that moves randomly on d space. He found the conditions that
make the expected value of the first meeting time between one of the searchers and the target is
finite. In addition, he showed the existence of the optimal search plan that minimizes the
expected value of this first meeting time. A comprehensive discussion of many aspects of search
problem is found in El Hadidy et al. [18 30]. Finding a Random walk moving target inside a
cylinder has numerous applications in physics. One of the famous search methods, is the
coordinated linear search method which consider two unit speed searchers starting at the origin
point seek for a random walk target. A target is assumed to move randomly on a line according to a

The Three Basic Forms Of EMH
Literature Review:
The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) states that it is impossible to beat the market because stock
market efficiency causes existing share prices to always incorporate and reflect all relevant
information.
The Three Basic Forms of the EMH
The theory of efficient market hypothesis EMH is based on the assumption that markets are
efficient. And this hypothesis can be categorized into three basic levels which are as follows:
1. Weak Form EMH
The weak form EMH implies that the market is efficient, reflecting all market information. This
hypothesis assumes that the rates of return on the market should be independent; past rates of
return and information have no effect on future rates.
2. Semi Strong EMH

These investors are as follows:
Insiders i.e. Insiders to a company, such as senior managers, have access to inside information,
Exchange Specialists i.e. an exchange specialist recalls runs on the orders for a specific equity,
Analysts i.e. equity analyst and Institutional money managers i.e. managers working for mutual
funds, pensions and other types of institutional accounts, have been found to have typically access
to private information to achieve abnormal gains but may not perform above the overall market on
a regular basis.
The Random Walk Model is a different paradigm of the Hypothesis of Efficient Markets. This
model was initially examined by Kendall (1953). The model states that the price fluctuations of
stocks do not depend on each other and have the same probability distribution. The theory explains
that stock price change randomly and investors are unable to predict stock prices. The model is
linked to the belief that markets are extremely efficient and that investors cannot beat or predict the
market because stock prices reflect all available information and as the new information

Controlled Fire During The Paleolithic Period
Controlled Fire in the Paleolithic Period (2.6 million B.C. 10,000 B.C.)
The origins of controlled fire go back to the Paleolithic Period, by early humans some of the
evidence takes us all the way back to East Africa. The use of controlled fire was a big and
important development for these early humans, this tool could be handled in so many ways not
only provided them food but also shelter, and protection.
The development of controlled fire meant that food could be haunted and cooked immediately so
meat wouldn t rot. Because there were many hominids scared across the world controlled fire
allowed them to defrost frozen meat in cold regions, this provided a more sterilized as well as
nutritious diet. It could not only be used for meats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clothing was part of these new developments, prehistoric clothing consisted of fur, grass, leaves
and leather that were wrapped or tied to the body in order to protect from elements of the time.
Archeologist have seen objects like handmade needles that were used to sew these clothing s in
order to create different items to keep them warm and dry. A main disadvantage of most
prehistoric clothing was that the materials would deteriorate quite fast, later on the next
generation of humans found themselves creating more durable and wearable pieces of clothing.
Neanderthals faced harsh climates there were parts of Northern Asia and Europe that had series
of Ice ages, because of this man had to step up and create something to keep their body heat. With
the creation of tools in order to hunt they found themselves hunting deer, mammoths and bears
which provided large, thick and furry coats for them. At first their clothing tended to be simple by
making holes in the head and arm area letting them drape all over their bodies. Later on it can be
seen that they grew more and more sophisticated by creating strips to wrap their clothing in place
sort of like belts.
After Neanderthals there came the invention of the tunics by the Cro Magnon people they mainly
consisted of skin from a given animal and it

Argumentative Essay On Overfishing
Abstract: Overfishing is the process of fishing to the point where more fish are caught than the
population can replace through natural reproduction. It may seem profitable to quickly grab as
much fish as you can, but it is extremely harmful to the marine ecosystem. The results of this have
lasting impacts on the balance of life in the oceans, and the social and economic well being of the
coastal communities who depend on fishfor their way of life. Fortunately, there are efforts being
done to help prevent this dangerous activity. New Zealand has noticeably led the charge to ending
overfishing. Some ways countries have been limiting fishingactivities are: marine protected areas,
and fishing quotas. These are more of the notable examples,... Show more content on

If you think about how big that number is, it should tell you how much of a problem this is. The
same study found that 32 percent are classified as overexploited, depleted or recovering,
meaning that they are reproducing far less than they are potentially able to. This percentage is
the highest that has been seen in the decades of studies, indicating that the problem of
overfishing is becoming more and more severe. And at this point, it seems the problem will only
get worse, unless we make severe changes. However, this is much easier said than done, billions
of people rely on fish for protein, and fishing is the principal livelihood for millions of people
around the world. For centuries, our seas and oceans have been considered a limitless source of
food. However, increasing fishing efforts over the last 50 years because of the depleting fish
populations, has led to unsustainable fishing practices that are pushing many fish stocks to the
point of collapse. Many important commercial fish populations (like the Atlantic bluefin tuna) have
suffered a decline to the point where their survival as a species is extremely threatened. The more
we hunt and kill these fish, the less likely the fish will be able to reproduce and begin to thrive
again. Target fishing of top

Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois Essay
| Case: Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois There are a lot of things to consider
before making a career changes, especially one as big as uprooting yourself from the business
world in a major city to moving to rural farmland, learning a new trade from the bottom up. It is
crucial to research your options before making any decisions. The advice from your colleagues
in the text does bring up some really good points. If the article in The Wall Street Journal holds
to be true, now would be an excellent time to get into the farming business producing corn crops
if there is going to be an increased demand for corn to produce corn based ethanol as a gasoline
substitute. If there will be an increase in the demand for corn, the... Show more content on

Assuming that the 80 acres of farmland do not come with all of the equipment needed to grow
and harvest corn crops, there will be an additional investment beyond the $80,000 for the land in
terms of both time and money. If you do not have the additional funds to not only purchase the
materials and hire the manpower to get the farm up and running, but also the funds to sustain
your likelihood while waiting for the crops to turn a profit, you would find yourself in quite the
predicament. There are alternatives to obtaining these additional resources, such as taking out
business loans or finding a business partner, but these added expenses may in turn cause
additional stress in your life, defeating the purpose of moving to Illinois seeking refuge in a
more peaceful environment. I also believe it is important to research the corn crops and corn
based ethanol a little bit more before jumping into a decision like this. According to the 2014
Illinois Crop Budgets corn crops have lower returns than received in recent years, suggesting that
incomes will be down for corn farmers in comparison to previous years (Schnitkey, 2013). Even
with the increased demand for ethanol, knowing that projected incomes are potentially in decline is
something one should not take lightly before making such a drastic career

Being A Successful Basketball Player
Being a Successful Basketball Player As a child growing up sports has been a part of my life.
There are many different sports that an athlete can play like basketball, baseball, and football.
Basketball is one of my favorite sports and is also one of the highly paid sports of all time. There
are three personality traits that make a successful basketballplayer. Those traits are determination,
leadership, and sportsmanship. Determination is one of the main keys in being a successful
basketball player. My definition of determination is someone who never gives up on anything in
life. Michael Jordanwas sick with the flu one night before a game. He still had determination to play
in the NBA game that night with the flu. Another example of determination is when Stephen
Curry was down three games in the NBA series, and he had determination to come back and win
the NBA title two years in a row. Stephen Curry showed true determination skills to never give and

My definition of leadership is when someone takes over and guides another person. I showed
true leadership skills when I saw my teammate struggling at practice on a ball handling drill. I
stopped what I was doing to come over and help him handle the ball better. Another example of
leadership is when the Cleveland Cavaliers were losing at halftime in game six of the NBA finals.
LeBron James went into the locker room, and he had a talk with his teammates about never giving
up no matter what the score was. He showed great leadership skills in helping them win a title and

taking steps toward improving. I need enough time to perform and I hate to rush. This gives me
a chance to perform trial and error before arriving at my conclusion. I skim through pages and

I love to learn things by physically testing, building or using my hands alongside my mind. A
great example demonstrating this pattern would be when I took apart one of the lamps that my

lamp needed to be disassembled from the BOTTOM UP. My point is, I now know every single
part of that lamp and how it was put together. I never di get the new lampshade on nor was I able

Why Is The American Dream Important In The Great Gatsby
As time goes by, the American Dream seems to slip further out of reach for many Americans. The
American Dream is the idea that every citizen, through hard work, can achieve financial stability.
Contrary to this belief, many Americans each year find themselves in debt and out of work after
years of hard work and dedication. The United States, which was once referred to as the Land of
Opportunity, has found itself lacking in profitable opportunities in spite of the efforts of the people
who built this country. This deterioration of the American Dream is due to lack of opportunities
and low job security, low wages in comparison to the cost of living, and the consumer mindset that
rules the nation.

Much like the adulterous wife of George Wilson, materialistic desire drives many individuals.
Myrtle s affair with a wealthy man revolved around what he could buy for her. During their first
recorded encounter, she goes shopping and buys various expensive things, including a dog and a
diamond studded dog collar (Fitzgerald 27). She purchased the most expensive things, as though
she had made a list before meeting with him. Her love for possessions and wealth overshadowed
her loyalty to her husband and her self respect. America currently has the highest rate of resource
consumption in the world. Things are being bought faster than money can make it to the bank. With
technological advances, including social media and online shopping websites, the purchasing goods
and services constantly fills the thoughts of Americans. In an essay by William Zinsser, he explains
that advertisements and TV commercials are a hymn to American success. He goes on to say that
magazine articles are a toast to people who made it to the top. Society worships money and success.
This worshipping of money convinces people to temporarily forget the number in their bank
account. People find themselves further behind than

Risks Facing The Construction Industry
Risk is defined as exposure to loss/gain or the probability of occurrence of loss/gain multiplied by
its respective magnitude (3). Risk management is a systematic approach of dealing with different
types of risks at any stage of the project (7). There are a number of risks occurring from the
beginning of the project to the end so risk managementplays a vital role throughout the project. This
article is a review on the different types of risks faced in the construction industry and whether the
various solutions adopted for it are enough.
Risks can be neglected by construction firms at certain times in the construction industry which
can cause other issues like finance, design failure, accidents and many more. There are a number
of articles which talk about the various types of risks in construction, some of the basic risks we
come across in most of the projects would be risk of procurement, defective design, funding
problem, accidents /safety, temporary structures and risk of unforeseen events etc.
One of the risks we come across first in the beginning a project is risk of procurement. The few
types of procurement options studied are in terms of project delivery, form of payment and use of
collaboration. The method used in the article was a general condition and led to conflicts and an
increase in cost, thus this risk allocation was not enough so by opting for a collaborative method
the problem was resolved (2). They could have improved on the risk management by

The Between Cultures And Cultures
The deferments between cultures It is great to be familiar with the cultures of any country because
they are reflecting the nature and culture of people across country. The most amazing thing in the
knowledge of civilizations is that you will see that there is partnership between countries and
others in some of the habits and traditions. Perhaps you may wonder yourself why these people do
this thing or how it had come to this tradition, etc. As an example of functions in Asia to look alike
in some habits I will talking about this point in this article. The Europeans left their similarity in the
traditions and all the nations of the African continent, there s thing had in common you may see in
the customs, traditions or be in the arts, therefore when the aspirations of the people in any country

and believes it is true and in the end, when the people of the country liters that were taking about the
news will change your opinion about this country and the reason is that you have to meet with a
member off this country. When I stared researching this subject and after stay when I finished some

Public Relations As A Regular Tradition
Due to the early accounts of public relations utilising manipulative practices as a regular tradition,
these tactics have thus overshadowed and continued to be the predominant view of public
relations within modern contexts. This essay will argue that public relations has evolved
considerably beyond the age of press agentry, yet will still acknowledge the existence of some
present day uses of these schemes. Firstly, this essay will explore the history of public relationsto
establish and enforce the need for change within the profession. Secondly, this essay will discuss
the various new practices and procedures of public relations implied into modern society and how
this aligns with the continuing ethical development of this profession. Lastly, the essay will analyse
the use of methods associated with the press agentry period in recent years.
Public relations is historically categorised in three stages known as manipulation, information and
mutual benefit, with each consisting of a different core set of values, methods and desired
outcomes. The manipulation period was known for its continuous abuse of press agentry and
publicity stunts to further its manipulative attempt to gain the attention of the public through the
media . To summarise the manipulation era was infatuated with profit gain and often acted without
a moral compass by fabricating elaborate stories to entice the interest of the public, thus furthering

A Brief Note On Pension And Pension Liability
Pension vs Pension Liability A pension is an amount of money that a business or government
uses to make payments to its retirees. The company usually doesn t pay pension benefits
directly, rather it buys an annuity which converts a fixed amount of money into a lifetime of
annual payments for the retiree. However, investing in it can be tricky. The amount to which a
guarantee is based on, changes over the years. When the stock market takes a decline, the
investment can too which means less money for all concerned creating what is called a pension
liability. A pension liability is considered to be the difference of the amount that s due and the
amount of money that is actually available. The liability happens in a traditional DB scheme or a
Defined Benefit scheme such as a matching fund that guarantees a certain amount of retirement
income. When the government or other agencies use money that was meant for pensions for
other reasons, and don t replace the funds, this could create a pension deficit or liability. Another
way in which a deficiency may occur is to have thousands of people retire or laid off at the same
time. Pensions in the UK For some time now, the UK pension fund has been under the scope. The
pension fund operates on a collection of earnings or component of earnings. It s very much a part
of the UK s economic position and lately, its disruption. It s important to Russia and other sizable
European markets mainly due to the returns of the

The color in Well C6 was transparent was a dark blue, purplish color, the pH was estimated to be a thirteen or a fourteen. This estimate is slightly higher than that of the other tests, this could be due to numerous factors. In this period lived a man named Taira no Masakado. In events which are swirled with mystery and legend, Masakado found himself in direct opposition with the government, even proclaiming the title of the New Emperor . His legacy endures to this day and is a fundamental component in contemporary Japanese folklore. Having just been found innocent in Kyoto for his attacks in Hitachi, would it not make sense for Masakado to bring accusations against Yokishane? Masakado does not seek government help in deterring Yokishane, this suggests that he knew he was in the wrong and was hesitant to return to Kyoto, mainly because he felt as if he got lucky at his previous hearing. Skipping to Masakado s confrontation with Sadamori in Hitachi, as Masakado wins the battle, storming the provincial capital grounds in the process, one gets a sense of the sudden panic defining his proceeding actions. Masakado immediately flees home to Shimosa. Once home, in an utterly confusing turn of events, Masakado heads out again, this time to conquer a handful of other eastern provinces. Instead of formerly addressing the rulers in Kyoto as the new emperor of the east or even as an adversary, Masakado writes a letter in an attempt to explain his actions and how they are justified. Using his imperial family ties, he tries to undermine the stories of his actions as propaganda from his opposers and claim that he remains loyal to the government. This is the act of a desperate man; a man who, maybe, has realized that he has made a grave mistake. Masakado wanted to believe that his conquests were justified, yet based on his actions it is apparent that he was not and knew it. Not having a strong cause and knowing he made a ... To Europeans, these works were the most informative illustrations of North America. After these works published, an engraver, named by Theodore De Bry, made a series of engravings directly from John White s paintings. However, the engravings were unable to be an accurate depiction of North America. If viewers watch them roughly, they are very similar, but there are some slight but crucial differences in detailed. The image Indian Man and Woman Eating by John White depicts a man and a woman are seated facing each other on a stipe of matting. There is a container with a bunch of circular fruits between their feet. It seems that each of them is covered by a clothing made by turkey feather in a certain style at that time. Their faces are flat with peace, but also there are some tattoos on their faces. The man s ears are pierced by a shell ornament and the woman tied with a bead knot. Behind them, there are standing a few plants. In the engraving Their sitting at meate created by De Bry, there are some changes appear: their facial structure alters, which looks more like Europeans; the muscle and right curve on their bodies are ... • 12. The Case Of Gideon V. Wainwright One of the main purposes of our judicial system is to produce fair results. This way the defendant is not convicted for something that they did not do. Although this is supposed to be the case, our society is set up in a way where the rich people have more of an advantage when it comes down to being provided with a lawyer than the poor. In the case of Gideon v. Wainwright , in 1963, the Supreme Court decided that to ensure fair trial, a counsel must be provided for the defendants that cannot afford one. Although the Sixth Amendment only says that someone has the right to a counsel, the purpose for a lawyer is to protect the innocent. This cannot happen if the lawyer does a poor job defending their client. This is why the Supreme Court should set a new precedent stating that everyone is entitled to a high quality defense. A high quality defense would look like someone who presents good arguments that helps back up a side. They are well prepared and knowledgeable about the case. Furthermore, they are well rounded people with good interpretation and speaking skills. Most importantly though, they are good listeners, patient, logical, observance, and open minded about the issue. With that, they have to be able to know how to deal with the issue and come up with alternatives. Gideon was charged for breaking and entering. He could not afford a lawyer and as a result of that he had requested for a lawyer. However, his request was denied by the judge because the judge stated that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. King Afonso Pestel Influence Essay The Portuguese presence in King Afonso s kingdom had many detrimental effects, including ones derived from the trade of excess goods, illegal slavery, and disease. According to King Afonso, the Portuguese coming into the Kongo undermined his authority when they they gave away a profusion of goods. Portuguese officials were allowing merchants to set up shops and sell goods that were prohibited, and this was done in such abundance that the people lower than the King no longer obeyed the authority, because they possessed more of the items than the authority themselves. In his letter, Afonso mentioned that ...many of our vassals, whom we had in obedience, do not comply because they have the things in greater abundance than we ourselves... (paragraph... At first, King Afonso had welcomed business and the trading of slaves. But as time went on, the Portuguese took things too far. (paragraph two). Instead of taking and selling people of no importance in his kingdom, the Portuguese were taking noblemen and other respected people as slaves. It was this horrific act that infuriated King Afonso, and his kingdom would have soon be desolate of people if this type of slave trade continued. The disadvantageous effects didn t stop there with the Portuguese, for they were also sending a lot of civilians over to the Kongo that brought with them disease and sickness. Financial Ratio Analysis of Morrison in Comparison with Tesco Financial Ratio Analysis of Morrison in Comparison with Tesco Introduction The purpose of this report is to critically analyse the financial ratio results of Morrison 2008 and 2009 as an equity analyst and compare it with like for like by using Tesco supermarket. To achieve this report will be looked at in four main areas. Firstly, we will use financial ratios obtained from annual reports of 2008 and 2009 to analysis and appraise Morrison s financial performance. This would be followed by a comparative analysis with Tesco, for the same period. Morrisons Current Liability(CL) are far too higher than the current assts and that has greatly affected the ratios. Using long term borrowing to fund current assets will improve this ratio as will profits that generate cash flow. These results mean that Morrison s ability to meet its short term obligations have improved slightly. The CR was up by 0.4:1 from 2008 to 2009 and the QR by 0.3:2 respectively. However, Morrison may not be able to pay off its bill as quickly as it should and this may keep its suppliers unhappy and unwilling to give eager service. • 17. How Did The Russian Revolution Affect The Economy Between... The economic situation of Russia from 1855 1917 undoubtedly had some influence on both the revolutions of 1905 and 1917. Furthermore, in 1891 Russia faced a famine leaving 40,0000 dead, followed by an economic slump in 1905. The First World War (1914 1918) had a drastic effect on Russian economy and society, with vast amounts of money spent on munitions. Some would argue that the economy was the main cause for both revolutions in 1905 and 1917. Nevertheless, according to the definition of a revolution; to overthrow a government or social order, in favour of a new system , it could not have been the economy alone, but other events such as war and society that contributed to the Russian revolutions of 1905 and 1917. The Great War drove already unhappy people to revolt against the regime before the war had even officially ended showing its severity. Some would argue here however it still shows how important the economy was, as it was a crippling one surrounding a mass scale war that caused the people to revolt. This also echoes another important factor in both revolutions of 1905 and 1917 in that life in Russia including during war was a strain whilst food, fuel and raw materials remained short. Another view considering the cause of the 1905 and 1917 revolution in Russia is rather than being due to one solid event it is rather the general life of Russians, who revolted due to being dissatisfied. • 18. Footloose Analysis I saw Footloose, directed by John Wilson and written by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, on Thursday in the Highlander Theatre at UCM. The story is about a high school boy who moves to a small town with his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is against the law to dance. Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the town has the right to express themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s note, and gave a spiel about what he believed the audience should take away from the show. His goal was for us to make a connection with how the youth and the adults found a way to work through their problems by talking it out. I believe this is an extraordinary message in today s society as technology is embraced by the youth and shunned by the older generations. However, I believe that other parts of the show, such as the relationship between the reverendand his wife, had a much larger impact than the message that he had hoped to send. There were many parts of the acting that I believe if worked on would have given the show substantially more impact. Granted, it is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene, in such a way that the audience loses themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the characters are feeling. However, the two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that John hoped to send were simply underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Performance Management And Performance Appraisal 1.Introduction 1.1.Performance management and performance appraisal The definition of the term performance management varies in different literatures. As Hutchinson(2013) summed up, combined with Den Harton s theory(2004), it is a continuous process which links individual and team objectives with organizational goals by measure and improve employee s skill and performance. According to Armstrong (2012), human resource management aims at making sure the organization has the most talented, skilled and engaged people in order to attain its goals. In this context, performance management is one staple practice helping managers identifying and retaining most competent employees as well as correcting poor performance. In a typical and effective process of performance management, as demonstrated in Figure 2.1, performance appraisal is not the only but a vital element because it is the activity which evaluate the outcome of the work, recognize the achievement and weaknesses and give employees and managers a straightforward result on these(Armstrong, 2009, Hutchinson, 2013). From a modern perspective, performance appraisal covers more areas not only on what have been achieved but also on the attitude and contribution of the operator (Hutchinson, 2013), which enhance the functions of identifying training needs. Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by natural beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to His Love in 1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the previous poem but is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself. With both poems having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the Nymph and the Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the Shappard are incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The Shepherd does not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her own, and he is a romantic while she is a realist. Identifying the precipitating event is important but exploring the client s perceptions and cognitions are even more important. Or a dog that refuses to go on a walk after a person has put on the dog s leash. One of the most important aspects of resistance is refusing. This is because it shows what a person believes in and what a person will do to achieve their beliefs. In genocide, few people resist the group in power because most victims are too afraid to show what they believe in because of the repercussions. Birth of a Nation has a lot of scenes the movie itself is 3 hours long however in one specific scene D.W. Griffith manages to incorporate many modern filmmaking techniques. The scene in which Flora goes to retrieve water and is abruptly met by Gus incorporates many modern techniques. In this scene we see the use of close up shots to focus on character reactions from both Gus and Flora. We also see the use of close ups to focus on objects other characters are looking at such as Flora looking at a squirrel in a tree. Finally, we also see the use of natural lighting in this scene as the entirety of the scene is shot outside. The film consistently perpetuates stereotypes that the African American community are less than human and more like animals. This is done through how they act, the film itself depicts them as being uncivilized. Implementation Of A New Operating System Ava s software company has received a contract to design an operating system which runs and operates a computer system used to handle stock buying and selling process. Which scheduling strategy would you recommend for this new operating system? Please support your answer and provide reasons for it. (10 points) Ans) In the computer world, multitasking is a method where multiple tasks or processes are performed during the same period of time that is they are executed concurrently. Multitasking doesn t necessarily means that multiple tasks are executing at exactly the same instant. As such, more than one undertaking can be part path through execution in the meantime, and that more than one errand is propelling more than a time of time is called multitasking, not at all like parallel execution. Operating system might adopt one of many scheduling strategies, which normally fall into the following categories: 1)Multiprogramming: In these systems, the running task keeps running until it performs an operation that requires waiting for an external event or until the running task is forcibly swapped out of the CPU by the computer s scheduler. These systems are designed to maximize the processor usage. The above figures show that memory can expand to hold three, four or more programs and switch among all of them. 2)Time Sharing: In these systems, the running task is required to abandon the processor, either willingly or by an outside event such as hardware interrupt. The Internet And World Wide Web Essay On January 1, 1983, Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Internet and just a few years later in 1990 Tim Berners Lee changed the world forever by inventing the beautiful and ever useful World Wide Web. Most would use the terms internet and World Wide Web interchangeably, however they are not the same at all. The Internet is an indescribably large network of networks while the World Wide Webis a refined way of gaining access to information on the internet. A really easy way to think about it is that the internet is connecting computers to other computers; whereas, the web is connecting people with one another. It is truly amazing how useful this invention is in todays world. It is arguably one of the most used inventions of the twenty first century, maybe ever. It is definitely not arguable however that the internet and the World Wide Web are essential to modern daily life in the developed world. In most first world countries, the internet is used in every classroom, in every business office, and in every store front. So much so that stores now use Free Wi Fi as a marketing technique to get customers to come to their store rather than another. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are only my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my friend solely on personality and common interests. Somehow, my friend group was always viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been perplexed at the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no matter what school, town, or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups in adolescents and what social class tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by Rashmita Mistry et al. This study was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how children understand socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning about socioeconomic classes. It first states that socioeconomic class is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Parallelism In Grapes Of Wrath Lydia Aremu Kleyn AP Literature/period 6 August 2017 Renewal in The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck usually uses California and the Salinas valley as his setting and is usually placed in the 30s when the great depression occurred. The Grapes of Wrath is about a family living in Oklahoma and they are farmers during the period called the dustbowl in which culture was rough because there were droughts and conditions were not suitable for farming. This family, because they are not doing too well, decide to move to California to find jobs and dignity. The author writes about the struggle of a family during and Great Depression and also the struggle of each individual as their lives are being torn apart. He not only shows how they go through these hardships, but also how they will overcome them. In John Steinbeck s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, he argues that all who follow the ways of the Bible will become renewed at the end. He uses religion and parallelism in order to bring to light, the chance of hope that is evident within dire circumstances, and project changes within people during turmoil. The Grapes of Wrath incorporates parallels between both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Steinbeck uses biblical symbols from the book Exodus to tell the story of the Joad family s journey to California. The Dust Bowl, which is the reason they are leaving Oklahoma, is a representation of the plague. Another symbol used in this novel is Noah s Ark. This represents the truck they used ... • 36. The Transgender Side Of The Lgbt Movement Throughout American history, numerous influential social movements arose, such as the civil rights movement, the youth movement, and the animal rights movement. However, one of the most prominent and rapidly changing movements in the past year, 2015, has been the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, the advocacy for equal rights between heterosexual and LGBT individuals. In this year, the LGBT movement made many crucial achievements. Starting off the year, in February of 2015, the Human Rights Campaign began a movement named the People s Brief. The purpose of this campaign was to gain nationwide support for the LGBT movement. The group ended up gaining over 200,000 signatures which was many more signatures than any other brief ever given to the Supreme Court. The transgenderside of the LGBT movement also had major successes in 2015. After Caitlyn Jenner came out, the movement changed drastically. It sparked many transgender people to come out to the media and discuss the inequalities and violence that trans people face in society. However, perhaps the most important victory for the LGBT was the legalizing of gay marriage across the country. This event happened on June 26, 2015 when the supreme court declared that denying two people the right to marry, regardless of gender, is unconstitutional. Even though just a few accomplishments were named, many others occurred that also had major impacts on the LGBT movement ( Best ). Although in recent months the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Becoming A Knights Essay The knights were the third level of feudal society in Europe. Knights were usually vassals who paid protection and loyalty to their lords in return for land. They were warriors in armor who fought on horseback and had to have a good deal of wealth in order to afford a full suit of armor and a horse. Knights wore coats of armor made from metal links called mail and carried swords and shields. A knights tactic when fighting in war was that he would charge at his enemies then spear them with his lance. During the time period of AD 700s to AD 1200s, the knights were the most powerful soldiers in Europe. Becoming a knight in Europe was a very tough task that started at a very young age. In the beginning of the dreadful path to becoming a knight, a boy was served as a servant that was also known as a page. The boy left home to live at a castle of a lord... Pages mostly spent their times with the ladies of the castle during the first stage of knight training. They had to help the ladies in every way possible. In return, ladies taught the pages how to sing, dance, compose music, and play the harp, which were skills valued in knights. The young boy then became a squire after seven years of being a page. In this part of training, the young boy spent most of his time with the knight who was his lord instead of the ladies. With the knight, he polished the armor, sword, shield, and lance. The young boy also then helped care for the knight s horse and even waited on him at mealtime, carrying water for hand washing and filling his empty cup. Besides the fact of serving the knight who was his lord, the squire trained to become warriors. The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn their focus on Satanism. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage boys, the community lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. This piece of evidence implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second, Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel). This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target. The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead with the arrests. Each chapter is specific to a particular element of victimology so to try and avoid broad sweeping statements but instead to give in depth insight into each element (e.g. gender). The book was published in 2007 so is not outdated and is written by three different authors which means opinions are not unfairly based on one person s view. Chapter one is about the foundations of victimisation, the social division in society due to the key issues which the authors go on to investigate in further chapters, and the relationship that this social division has with victimisation. This chapter introduces other themes too like social inequality, media representation of victimisation, political responses to victims, and the authors also draw attention the British Crime Survey, pointing out that there is an over reliance on it and it may not be valid enough, for example victims may not ... Furthermore, they showed the existence of the optimal search plan that minimizes the expected value of the first meeting time and found it. More recently, El Hadidy [16] considered a search problem for a d dimensional Brownian target that moves randomly on d space. The Three Basic Forms of the EMH The theory of efficient market hypothesis EMH is based on the assumption that markets are efficient. And this hypothesis can be categorized into three basic levels which are as follows: 1. Weak Form EMH The weak form EMH implies that the market is efficient, reflecting all market information. This hypothesis assumes that the rates of return on the market should be independent; past rates of return and information have no effect on future rates. 2. Semi Strong EMH This form of EMH ...
