The CEO Paying Everyone $70,000 Salaries Has Something to Hide Bloomberg Businessweek
This article interested me because I remember reading a lot in the news about the CEO who was
paying his employees $70,000, and I thought that was an extremely noble and kindhearted thing to do.
But I also remember seeing something or another about him being sued, which might have caused the
salary increases. So, to me, this article was interesting as a means to figure out what really might have
happened. However, if he raised salaries because of a lawsuit, I have to give him and his PR team
credit because they spun it expertly. He came out looking like a progressive hero, fighting for the little
guy.

Love And Relationship In Shakespeare s Milun
Milun is a story about a knight who is in love with a mistress, but are unable to be together as she is
forced to marry a wealthy baron. Milun s and mistress s uncontrollable lust and love consequently
cause them to conceive a child together. The fear of their affair being shown in broad daylight causes
them to send their child to live with his aunt. Milun entrusts his son with a ring as a parting gift so that
he would be able to recognize him when he gets older. Milun and his mistress are separated from each
other in order to hide their relationship. They maintained their relationship for twenty years by
communicating in a unique way. They were able to send messages to each other through a swan. This
was done by making the goose fast making the goose hungry so that it would go back to the place
where it knows it will surely be fed. Within the time gap of twenty years, their son grows older and
learns about his father and all his chivalrous actions. In the excitement of knowing his father s virtues
Milun s son sets out on a journey to find him. We are able to see that in order to maintain a reputation
one must have honor and integrity even if it means sacrificing personal desires.
In order to have honor and integrity one must be able to sacrifice their own personal happiness. In
lines 279 280 For twenty years they lived like this, Milun and his mistress. It shows how Milun and
the mistress have been in a secret relationship for twenty years and still not have eloped. If

Acts 8-12
I. What can we learn from the stress on individual persons in Acts 8 12?
A. The impact and focus of the message preached continues on and taken interest in a number of
individual persons.

Why was Peter s visit to Cornelius controversial?
The controversial came from Peter s realization that Jewish customs forbidding contact with Gentiles
were inconsistent with following Jesus (10:28). When Cornelius and other non Jesus received the
Holy Spirit, in the same way that Peter and other Jesus did, Peter understood that the people of God
were not limited to those of Jewish ancestry and social custom (10:34 35; 44, 47).
V. Why were many early Christians leery of Saul?
Because Saul was persecuting Christian and other Jews who accepted Jesus as the Messiah (8:1 3). He
was in on the stoning as Stephen, so when Saul became a Jesus follower people were leery of him, and
they thought he was plotting to trap them.
VI. Name the three accounts of Saul s (Paul s) conversion (Acts 9:1 31; 22:4 16; 26:9 18).
1. Saul was approached on the Damascus road on his mission to arrest Christians, suddenly shined a
light down around him, he fell to the ground and heard a voice speaking to him.
2. Saul was blind by the light and was led to Damascus where Ananias met with him so he could
regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
3. And after staying with the believers for a few days, immediately he began preaching about Jesus in
the synagogues, saying Jesus indeed is the Son of

Letter From Birmingham Jail Rhetorical Analysis
In Martin Luther King s A Letter from Birmingham Jail , the rhetorical appeals of kairos, logos and
especially pathos are implied heavily throughout the piece, effectively responding to the absurdity of
the eight clergymen s letter and to the civil disobedience displayed in the racial protests. Over the
course of the letter, MLK makes multiple allusions to ancient philosophers, such as Socrates and
Aquinas, as well as Bible verses and their lessons. King establishes himself as someone who is
educated in the events happening in the community of Birmingham. Providing endless examples of
personal anecdotes and details of the horrific events that he finds upsetting supports his knowledge on
the civil disobedience. We have waited for more than 340 years for our constitutional and God given
rights. (Language Acts!175) MLK s progress embodies respect and dignity, however because of the
emotional appeals he is drawn to fight for the cause, and will not remain inactive.
Martin Luther King relies on his extensive use of pathos to pull sympathy and guilt from the audience,
the clergymen and people of Birmingham. The major moments of pathos in Letter from Birmingham
Jail come in the parts about the suffering of the African American community. In order for MLK s
argument to make sense, he supplied personal anecdotes for the audience to understand why the
situation is unjust. So he gives a vivid picture of what Black Americans had to go through in the
segregated South. ...when you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you
seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public amusement park that has
just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown
is closed to colored children. ( Language Acts!) I find the above section to evoke the most empathy (in
my eyes) because it speaks to the child; the effects of racism and segregation on those too young to
understand. It also opens the eyes as to the bitterness segregation bred in those children to the
clergymen, whom work directly with them and for the children to be told no , to be told you can t , to
be cheated of dreams and hopes, and to be made to feel hopeless. This

Brain Disorder Essay
The brain is known to be the most complex organ of the human body. According to, The National
Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes, This three pound organ is the seat of intelligence,
interpreter of the senses, initiator of body movement, and controller of behavior (Brain Basic: Know
your Brain n.p.). NINDS also explains how the cerebral hemisphere can be divided into sections, or
lobes, and within each lobe contains specific functions. The damage to these lobes can have distinct
debilitating effects, so therefore, damage to the left hemisphere can cause aphasia, right sided
hemiparesis and memory loss. The NINDS states, the frontal lobe is located at the front of the brain,

Ischemic strokes are caused by an obstruction within a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain. The
American Stroke Association also states that, atherosclerosis is the development of fatty deposits
which causes an obstruction in the lining of vessel walls (ASA, par. 1 2). The second type of
cerebrovascular accident is hemorrhagic. The American Stroke Association explains that hemorrhagic
strokes account for the other 13 percent of stroke cases. The American Stroke Association also states,
It results from a weakened vessel that ruptures and bleeds into the surrounding brain. The blood
accumulates and compresses the surrounding brain tissue (Hemorrhagic strokes). If the
cerebrovascular accident occurs in the middle cerebral artery of the left hemisphere, then several
effects could occur including: aphasia, right side hemiplegia and memory loss. According to the
NINDS, damage to a specific portion of the brain that is responsible for language is known as aphasia,
which is a neurological disorder. This disorder includes difficulty in reading and writing, not able to
express oneself when speaking, and trouble understanding speech (NINDS, par.1). There are three
different types of aphasia, and they depend on the portion of the brain that has been affected such as:

Should Shakespeare Be Taught In Schools
Shakespeare died 400 years ago. He is the only required author in the 9th grade Common Core. Why
is that? Shakespeare is a world known English, actor, playwright, and writer. He wrote 38 plays,
poems, and sonnets. He is being taught in freshman English classes in high schools, and making these
freshmen miserable. Shakespeare should not be included in the 9th grade curriculum because it is hard
to understand, not relevant, and meant for the theatre and not a classroom. To begin with, Shakespeare
is very hard for most 9th graders to read. Shakespeare uses language that is not modern and students
most likely did not learn. As said by Powell, the director of Salisbury Playhouse, Shakespeare had
made them feel stupid rather than empowered. (Powell). Most 9th graders do not get the language and

As Shelina Janmohamed said, The aspiration to love and be loved is present in all times and places
(Janmohamed380). There are plenty of modern authors who covers the same themes. Force feeding
children can only induce nausea and a lifelong aversion (Robshaw402) If teachers wait, students will
approach the Bard more willingly and openly. Then they will be able to appreciate him rather than
hating him. Shakespeare is difficult to read, being taught in a way that does not give him justice, and
is outdated. For these reasons Shakespeare should not be taught in the 9th grade. Do Shakespeare and
students a favor; throw him out.

Technology And The Positive Effects Of Information Technology
Information technology is the study or use of systems, such as computers and smartphones, for
storing, retrieving, and sending information. In our society today, it has become more common to own
a smartphone. A survey ran in 2015 regarding the ownership of these devices demonstrated that 68%
of U.S. adults have a smartphone, rising about 35% since 2011, and tablet ownership is at 45% among
adults (PEW Research Center). As of right now technology is becoming a threat to the way we live.
Even though technology has created positive impacts in society, it has caused a barrier in human
interaction, inactivity in daily life, and has lead to the spread of false news on social platforms.
Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps define society and
determines how one interacts with others on a daily basis. Over the years, technological advancements
have contributed to the barrier in communication that society suffers from today. A study done by the
International Center for Media the Public Agenda (ICMPA) found that 1 in 4 people spend time
socializing online (Hampton). Through the growing popularity and usage of social media platforms, it
has become more simple to remain in contact with others through online platforms. Although it is
great to keep in touch with distant friends and relatives, many individuals have taken advantage of this
opportunity. A poll ran by Statista determined that the percent of Americans who has a social media

suffers from a disorder named Christopher. The story through Christopher s eyes is not a typical point
of view. Haddon makes use of stream of consciousness when Christopher s storytelling strays from his
original point into a point that he believes is of equal importance. The first person perspective is a tool

One goal is to expose children to reading, and the other goal is to help the children visualize what is
trying to be expressed in the book through the illustrations or pictures. Analogously, The Curious
Incident of the Dog in Night Time uses picture to help the reader visualize important aspects of the
book. For many adults, they think that pictures in a book are silly, but in this case it adds to the
disorder of this novel. Christopher explains, ... Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture with a Stanley knife
and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why all the cars looked the same,
because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon 27). Does the reader really need to
know the specific details of Christopher s card to his mother? Probably not, but it helps characterize
Christopher and show how his brain works. Many people may say that the picture takes away from the
order of the book, but it adds detail to the book instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is
when he is in the train station. Christopher describes his surroundings, But the train station in Swindon
wasn t like that. It was a tunnel and some stairs, and a shop and café and a waiting room like this

autism is what causes him to visualize the map in his head. Lots of people would think it is imbecilic
to create a map like that in their heads. On the contrary, it is an advantage to have a map of your
surroundings because it may help in a time of terror. People who are unable to create a map in their
head are at a disadvantage, so they have the real disorder. Pictures and diagrams are a good; they keep

Truly Experience The Pantheon Of Ancient Rome
Truly Experience the Pantheon The Pantheon happens to be the best preserved building from the times
of Ancient Rome. Its large dome is an everlasting testimony to the architectural genius of the Romans
and the building still remains basically in tact and offers a unique opportunity for many visitors to
journey back in time to 2,000 years ago and experience the Roman glory. Atmosphere and Interior As
you make your way towards the bronze doors, and walk under the rectilinear porch, the height and
width of the building will fill your vision completely. You have plenty of room to move around and
how you see in this area. The rotunda happens to be one of the most remarkable features that the
Pantheon has, it was the biggest domed structure until 1912. The interior of the Pantheon is more
dramatic and stunning in comparison to its exterior. When you walk inside, you are bombarded with
various colours of light that reflect off of a variety of surfaces. The alcove that is just opposite the
door, is the most impressive and it touches the ceiling. It has decorative cornice and red porphyry
frieze as well as being flanked by Corinthian marble columns in a Phyrgian purple. Each of the
alcoves will have two columns in either Numidian yellow or Phyrgian purple. Each of the alcoves also
have three small areas for statues that is surrounded by seven other windows that are located on the
rotunda walls. Due to the use of concrete, the idea was that the architecture would be able to be a

The stability of biodiversity over millions of years of evolution has been one of the most persistent
puzzles of ecology and evolution (Hutchinson, 1961). Different species had evolved from their
ancestral and were not created in their present forms (Darwin, 1859).
This essay will explore how diversity arises within and between species and the significance of it

Mutation is a change in the nucleotide sequence of an organism s DNA thus forming new alleles. Even
it involves only change in a single base, whether it be insertion, deletion or substitution the effects are
significant. The severity of the frame shift depends on how far down the DNA base sequence the
mutation occurs (Crick, 1961). It gives rise to the changes in genotype and therefore different
phenotype will be expressed. Sometimes mutations can occur in noncoding proteins region and bring
no effect to the phenotypic characteristic. This is known as neutral variation. Mutation is a random and
spontaneous process during DNA duplication. The formation of a harmful protein may be
disadvantageous to the organism. Selection pressure will remove these alleles and it will not be passed
on the next generations. On rare occasion, a mutant allele brings advantage to the bearer by making it
better adapted to the environment thus increasing the reproductive success. For example, Patagona
gigas living in Andean Highlands, an oxygen poor region in South Africa which is 16,000 feet above
sea level, experienced identical mutation independently and not by interbreeding. The mutation
change their haemoglobin gene make it easier for oxygen to bind (Projecto Garcia, 2013). Hence high
altitude hummingbirds have adaptive oxygen binding traits to live in higher elevation zone.

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Hero Research Paper
In tragedy, the tragic hero is the protagonist who possess a weakness that leads to his destruction and
suffers due to his errors. Even though the hero goes through a terrible defeat, his suffering gives
humanity an opportunity to validate itself and display redeeming qualities. Three main theories of the
tragic hero are the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero. Each
model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis, and
suffering. In the Shakespearean mode of tragedy, the play Romeo and Juliet models the tragic hero.
For instance, nobility is characterized by being upper class and having elevated character. Romeo

The downfall of Michael Phelps life started when he was seen smoking marijuana in a photograph that

After this tragic event, Phelps finally retired from the famous Olympic swimmer and lost himself

The Importance Of Human Nature In Of Mice And Men
Stories and other literary forms are often used to showcase different aspects of human nature. John
Steinbeck uses the story Of Mice and Men to display the truth behind human aspirations and
emotions. Steinbeck exhibits both the kindness and the cruelty that lies within everyone. Through both
symbolism and direct statements, the readers can understand the different struggles and motives of
each character. Of Mice and Men shows the world through the perspective of many people from
different backgrounds, including workers, women, the mentally ill, and colored people. Though the
characters appear drastically different, they all have dreams and yearn to belong. In Of Mice and Men,
Steinbeck is trying to show the importance of friendship, the impossibility of the American dream, and
the discrimination in the 1930 s. Many characters in the story go without friendship, causing them to
feel alone in the world. George and Lennie are the only characters introduced that stick together.
George and Lennie say multiple times that we got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a
damn about us (Steinbeck 14). Their friendship is what makes them different from all of the other men
because they have someone else to rely on. On the contrary, Slim and the other men in the workhouse

Algonquin Blackrobe Essay
Assad Jamil October 20, 2014 Essay #2 Blackrobe The Algonquin (Indians) and the French people are
first shown in an area of Quebec in the 17th century. Both groups seem to be similar in that they both
have a leader and dress similarly. However, looks can be deceiving as they have many cultural
differences and various beliefs. These differences create misunderstandings, and lead the French to
believe the Algonquin to be a group of savages. The Algonquin also believe the French to not be very
intelligent. However, a mission to Huron territory changes both the Algonquin and French, and causes
them to better understand each other, creating tolerance, and eventually cultural rapprochement. The
French people believe that converting the Algonquin is absolutely critical, and that the Algonquin need
not understand the French religion (Blackrobe). In addition, the French believe the Algonquin are not
very intelligent and this is shown by the fact that they trade them axes, pots, and flints rather than
muskets (Blackrobe). The French almost treat the Algonquin as children when they take them to see
the clock. Also, Father Laforge, who is the priest with the mission to convert the Hurons, is of the
opinion that the Algonquin do not live for the future, but only for the present time. The Algonquin feel

Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt
Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the
river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with
begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern
lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two
kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the Nile River.
Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and replenished
the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on this natural
rhythm.
When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would need to
be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously monumental mass
of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the
Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land
ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally.
Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that life
and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old Kingdom
period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong impression that
death haunted the Egyptians. Their

The West Fertilizer Plant Explosion
There are disasters occurring all around the world that most individuals will not hear of due to a lack
of media coverage. Many of these disasters can have incredibly detrimental effects on entire
populations, and those at risk deserve a chance to educate themselves. Two of the disasters found were
the West Fertilizer plant explosion and the increasing rate of acidification of ocean water. Despite the
fact that these disasters pose such incredible dangers, they were found to be among the least reported
on stories amongst media outlets. Although these disasters have not been covered nearly as much as
other major catastrophes, such as hurricane Katrina, they still have far reaching physical and
emotional consequences and have their own unique story. The West Fertilizer company located in
West, Texas was in the business of chemical manufacturing and distribution. The night of April 17,
2013, an explosion occurred as authorities were attempting to extinguish a fire that had broken out
earlier that day. The primary explosive agent was found to be ammonium nitrate, a chemical used as
fertilizer in agriculture, which West Fertilizer produced. Ammonium Nitrate is the main component of
ANFO, a commonly used explosive mixture, and is often used by terrorists in the production of
improvised explosive devices. The explosion left many injured, several dead, and caused millions in
damages. The oceans cover over 70% of the earth s surface and hold nearly all of the planet s water,

Rodney Castleden s The Stonehenge
Stonehenge is one of the most famous sites in the world from the Neolithic period. It began as early as
3000 BC, and went under different stages of arrangement. Known for its circle of giant stones
standing in Salisbury Plain, this monument has baffled archeologists for centuries. Stonehenge, which
derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several times over the centuries,
but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. The only information we do know is that it
was a religious site, and that worship here involved the cycles of the sun; the alignment of the stones
on the axis of the mid summer sunrise makes this clear. The books I choose to review this topic each
approach the ideology behind this monument; each in a different way. In the first half of The
Stonehenge People, Rodney Castleden investigates, in detail, many of the popular sites that could
contribute to figuring out the reconstruction of Neolithic society. Moreover, he begins with the impact
man had on the land, from the development of trade routes to the beginning of settlements and

An Experiment on the Synthesis and Characterization of...
Introduction In this experiment, the focus will be the synthesis and characterization of biodiesel fuel.
Biodiesel seems to have become the substitute for fossil fuel. It can also be an alternative for the
petroleum based biodiesel. By having renewable resources such as corn, soybeans, peanuts and other
makes biodiesel a viable option. Using these resources wouldn t help alleviate the problems with fossil
fuel in the US. Biodiesel is produced from the transesterification reaction of vegetable oil.
Transesterification is the reversible reaction where one ester is converted into another by exchanging
an ester group with an alcohol in the presence of a base.
Experimental
According to the Laboratory Manual, there are multiple steps. We will need 50mL vegetable oil, 10mL
methanol, 0.5mL 9M NaOH, diesel fuel, salt and ice. For preparation of Biodiesel, various types of oil
were available for synthesizing biodiesel. Measure 50mL of biodiesel into a 250mL beaker. Second,
add a clean magnetic stir bar to the oil and the place the beaker on a stirring hotplate. Adjust the
stirring rate so that the solution is being well mixed without splashing and turn heat on low. Third,
while the mixture is heating prepare a solution of methanol and sodium hydroxide. Measure 10mL of
methanol into a small beaker. Add 0.5mL of 9M NaOH to the methanol. Fourth, heat the mixture to
50C. As soon as the oil reaches 50C, turn off heat, but continue stirring. Fifth, slowly pour the
methanol/NaOH mixture

Writing Is Easy Steve Martin Summary
I consider the essay, Writing Is Easy! by Steve Martin exceptionally funny because he makes several
different jokes that are entertaining and humorous. One joke that he makes is that he enjoys typing
nonsense as much as he enjoys actually writing: I could be typing kjfiu joewmv jiw and would enjoy

some people just enjoy the feeling of their fingers on a keyboard. Another joke he makes is that when
he is frustrated with writing he can just go get coffee, relax, and figure it out later. He claims painters
don t have that luxury. If they go to a coffee shop, their paint dries into a hard mass, (5). A different

The Love Triangle in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Love is an exploding cigar we willingly smoke. (Barry). Like Lynda Barry said love is like a ticking
time bomb just waiting for the right time to blow someone s face off. For example, in both William
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and William Goldman s The Princess Bride there are many
similarities between protagonists, antagonists, and their love. Many people are dead in these two
stories now because of their harmful love. Love drives these stories and pushes people to the point of
suicide.
In Romeo and Juliet the two lovebirds sadly fell to the disease of love. Romeo and Juliet were so
much in love that they were both willing to die for each other. Juliet wasn t going to marry the Count
Paris so she went into a deep sleep almost similar to a coma. As a result, Romeo thought that Juliet
was dead because the news did not get to Romeo so he poisoned himself next to Juliet. When Juliet
arose, she found Romeo dead next to her coffin.
Much like Romeo and Juliet, The Princess Bride characters were prisoners of love. Westley and
Buttercup were in great love but had to separate when Westley left for the Americas to start a better
life and then go back to Florin to marry Buttercup. However, as Westley was supposedly killed by the
Dread Pirate Roberts, Buttercup was forced to marry Prince Humperdinck. The Prince hired three men
to murder the princess and try to start a war with Guilder. Prince Humperdinck s plans were ruined

The Three Needs Of Yoga
Human beings are said to be made up of three components body, mind and soul and corresponding to
these there are three needs health, knowledge and need for inner peace. Health is a physical need,
whereas knowledge is our psychological need and inner peace is considered to be a spiritual need, and
when all the three are present then there is considered to be harmony inside us.
Yoga gives us relief from various ailments at the physical and mental level. The practice of the asanas
strengthens the body and thereby creates a feeling of well being. From the psychological point of
view, it sharpens the intellect and aids in concentration; it steadies our emotions and encourages a

Everyone can do yoga with perfection with a little amount of care and patience, yoga triggers our
body s natural adaptive and rejuvenating powers and unless we use those powers we will lose it and

Essay Understanding and Preventing Air Pollution
Understanding and Preventing Air Pollution
Air pollution is a major problem affecting the entire world. In the United States some progress has
been made in reducing air pollution through the Clean Air Acts passed by the Congress. Still there is a
lot to be done. To prevent air pollution it is important to understand how the air is being polluted, how
it impacts on the ecosystem and what we can do about it.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas which is emitted through the process of
incomplete combustion of fossil fuel. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that, when inhaled, combines
with the blood and renders them incapable of carrying oxygen. Methane occurs as a principal
ingredient in natural gas, and is produced by the bacterial decomposition of plant and animal matters.
Methane in the troposphere absorbs heat and causes greenhouse effect ( Gutnik pg. 15).
A sulfur based gas occurs mostly as sulfur dioxide (SO2) which is a colorless, tasteless, foul smelling ,
heavier than air gas. Besides naturally produced from activities of the volcanoes or decomposition of
organic material in swamps, it also is produced by the burning of sulfur containing fossil fuels. Sulfur
dioxide combines with water vapor in the air, forming sulfurous acid (H2SO3), a major component of
acid rain ( Gutnik pg. 15).
Ozone is a form of oxygen (O3) and a major air pollutant in the troposphere. It is very harsh and
irritant to the lungs, and can be a serious problem for people with lung disorders. Ozone in the
stratosphere, on the other hand, is good and acts as a filter to the sun s harmful rays which can reach

An Analysis Of Charles Hatfield s The Smartest Kid On...
Charles Hatfield s essay, An Art of Tensions, that comics are marked as being easy to read, when in
fact they are a complex means of communication. Comic readers must call upon different reading
strategies, or interpretive schema, than they would use in their reading of conventional written text.
Chris Ware is often noted as a cartoonist who elevates comics because of the number of literary
awards his work has received. Ware got his start in the 1991 in RAW Magazine, continuing his work
in his series Acme Novelty Library. One of his most notable comics is Jimmy Corrigan: the Smartest
Kid on Earth. Readers learn to appreciate his comics on a higher level because they cannot rush
through his work. It s complexity is a result of his use of text, diagrams, and pacing. Comic readers
value Ware s artistry because they have to work for understanding.
Readers appreciate Chris Ware s work because it s complexity causes the reader to slow down to
absorb the information given to them. This is largely due to the pace of the comics. Hatfield says that
the author s task is to give the reader an imagined sequence and it s the reader s job is to translate the
series into a narrative sequence by achieving closure. The author must develop a rhythm for the reader
to follow. So that when they break the rhythm with a single image to give them a key piece of
information it has impact. When Jimmy meets his father at the airport, a collection of small and
medium panels composes the moments

Transference and Counterference
Transference and Countertransference by Lisa Marie Hilz
Introduction
Transference and countertransference are both normal phenomena that may arise during the course of
the therapeutic relationship. Understanding these phenomena in nursing is important because the
primary focus of nursing is the nurse patient relationship (Imura, 1991). This discussion will describe
how these phenomena occur, and how they may manifest in the nurse patient relationship.
Furthermore, this discussion will highlight nursing interventions in these situations, in order to provide
insight into how nurses can maintain and improve the therapeutic focus and environment.

The goal is to guide the patient to independence by teaching them to assume responsibility for their
own behaviors, feelings, and thoughts, and to assign the correct meanings to relationships based on
present circumstances instead of the past. Helping the patient work through the transference is
beneficial in two important ways: the therapeutic value of the relationship may be restored and even
improved, and the patient may also learn to identify this behavior in other relationships, thus
improving interpersonal skills.
Countertransference
Countertransference involves the same principles, except the direction of the transference is reversed.
Countertransference, a normal occurrence as well, involves the nurse s reactions, behaviors, thoughts,
and feelings toward the patient (Wilson amp; Kniesl, 1996). Unresolved conflicts from the nurse s past
may evolve as countertransference. For example, a patient who displays childlike dependency toward
a nurse may evoke a parental attitude from that nurse, depending on the meaning that he or she assigns
to the relationship with the patient, and if past conflicts are significant to the present situation. Nurses
may be completely unaware or only minimally aware of the countertransference as it is occurring.

The Arizona v. Fulminante Case
The center of a circle can never be located with only one line running through the shape. There must
be multiple lines, each one making it more clear where the center of the circle is. Analogously, the
murderer of a case can never be indicted with only one piece of evidence pointing at them. There must
be multiples indications, each one making it more clear who the murderer is. When Oreste Fulminante
confessed to the first degree murder of his stepdaughter, Jeneane Fulminante, the trial court used his
confession as evidence to sentence him to death. However, since his confession was coerced , the
Supreme Court decided to retry Fulminante s case without the use of the coerced confession as

The constitutional issue later appealed to the United States Supreme Court, where they discussed the
case s two separate issues, a voluntariness issue regarding a confession and a harmless error issue, as
stated by Mr. Jarrett during the trial at the United States Supreme Court ( Arizona v. Fulminante.
Oyez.org ). In Arizona v. Fulminante, the Supreme Court voted 5 to 4 to uphold the Arizona Supreme
Court s decision: Fulminante would receive a new trial and the confession would not be allowed; this
would be for future law reference. The Supreme Court, profoundly, ruled that a coerced confession
could not account as evidence against the person being tried ( Arizona v. Fulminante . Lawschool).
Arizona v. Fulminante was one of the few cases in law history with justices shifting from the majority

the majority and minority of the case. Highly qualified Chief Justice Rehnquist wrote for the majority,
The admission of an involuntary confession...is similar in both degree and kind to the erroneous
admission of other types of evidence ( Arizona v. Fulminante . Lawschool). If there were an adequate
supply of evidence supporting the conviction of Fulminante, it would have incontrovertibly apparent
that he did murder his stepdaughter. Fulminante s method for murdering Jeneane involved excessive

People who are part of the BDSM community stress out that what they do is not abuse since what they

Simpl Simple Diffusion
Cells contain a great deal of material within them, like: cytoplasm, ribosomes, mitochondria, and
genetic material, which are found in both eukaryote and prokaryote cells. In order to maintain a stable
environment between these independent elements, cells need to manage what goes in and what goes
out of them. This is called homeostasis, a unifying principle of biology that is only possible thanks to
the cell membrane.
All cells, including plant and animal cells, have a cell membrane. The cell membrane is made out of a
phospholipid bilayer, which contain polar heads and nonpolar tails. This unique structure assists in
regulating homeostasis by controlling what goes in and what goes out of the cell. Most molecules like
oxygen and carbon dioxide have no trouble going through the cell membrane, which is possible
because they are small nonpolar molecules, sharing an equal amount of electrons among the atoms.
This is known as simple diffusion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cell membrane on their own. Some transport proteins may act as channels, changing their shape or

The Differences Of Shinto And Nordic Religions
Since the beginning of mankind, every society has looked to religion to give meaning to life. From a
good harvest, to understanding the purpose of our existence; the belief in the divine provides a
platform on which many people can develop answers to universal questions. Through the Shinto and
Nordic religions, communities have been able to connect to the divine through their traditions,
experiencing their spirituality through worshipping a deity, engaging in festivals and even undertaking
pilgrimages. Although their distinctive cultures result in differing religious practices for the Japanese
and Norse societies, both strive to make sense of our world, and seek the meaning to human existence.
Shintoism is the native religion of Japan, however, unlike most other religions; it claims no sacred text
or founder. Because of this, Shintoism is more commonly referred to as a reflection of Japanese
culture and history, often blending with other religions, such as Buddhism (O Neal et al., 2007). Being
an immanent religion, Shinto values the importance of experiencing harmony with the spirits of the
world, known as the kami. These kami inhabit all things, from animals and mountains, to the spirits of
the deceased (Toropov and Buckles, 2011). Although not considered all powerful, the chief kami of
this animistic spirituality is the sun goddess, Amaterasu. As the daughter of Izanagi and Izanami, the

Circumstantial Evidence
Physical Evidence is evidence that is seen at the crime scene. They are objects that may contain vital
information that are laying around the area of where the crime is committed. These objects are sent to
research facilities to see if the objects are useful in finding out what really happened during the crime.
If they are useless, then they will not change the thought of those who wish to know the truth. But if
they hold information that will turn the tide of a court case, then they will be used. Circumstantial
evidence is what most prosecutors use in the court of law. This evidence comes from clues found at
the scene that have something very defining about them. For example, no two people have the same
fingerprint. So if one is found at the crime scene, then it may lead to something important. Or maybe
not, since it may have been accidental, but you never know. Testimony is a written sentence or

Republic of Venice, and the center of Post Byzantine art. He had trained and become a master within
that tradition and an icon painter. Among his great artworks, I would like to draw attention to Pietà
(The Lamentation of Christ) , an oil painting. El Greco had painted this masterpiece about c.1565 70
in Italy, during the Cretan period.
El Greco, at the age of 26, like other Greek artists had travelled to Venice and came under the
influence of Titian and Tintoretto. During his stay in Italy, he widened his style with aspects of

It is a scene which is shown after Jesus was crucified, where his body has been removed from the
cross and his friends and family mourn over his body. Many artists have focused this scene by just
painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea.
El Greco s Lamentation of Christ is a translation in paint of Michelangelo s late sculptured group of
the Pietà in Florence Cathedral, at the time in Rome. The pattern and the feeling are the same. The
figures of the Dead Christ, His Mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea make one
compact group. Michelangelo achieved this by his new treatment of form; El Greco by paint, by
employing broader, more continuous passages of color. The more vivid colors of Rome combine with
the richer palette of Venice to convey the intensity of expression demanded by the subject. The
horizontal composition of Venice, more suited to a narrative type of subject than to the single image, is
given up and is only very rarely found appropriate in Spain. Michelangelo s Pietà group was not the
only source on which El Greco drew: the arrangement of Christ s legs and his outspread arms, no less
than the idea of viewing one of the two bearers of his body from the side and the other from behind,
derive from Michelangelo s drawing for Vittoria Colonna, in which, as in El Greco s painting, the
Virgin is placed behind and above Christ. (Web Gallery of

Historical Argumentative Analysis
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your historical argument this week, and because our posts were so
similar, I thought you might be interested in hearing about how the government tried to streamline
another expensive federal program.
In 1981, in an attempt to cut the federal budget and streamline the free and reduced school lunch
programs, the government proposed to pass proposed reduction in the milk portions and the cut from
three fourths of a cup of two vegetables or fruits to half a cup. On that note, the Department of
Agriculture Department attempted to allow ketchup, pickle relish, and jam to be counted as fruits and
vegetable. Additionally, the guideline would allow for cakes, cookies, and corn chips to be counted as
part of the daily allotment

Identity And Personal Identity
Lately my mornings are spent getting up between 5:30am and 6am. I get myself ready, I never look
fantastic just passable, and I go to work. Part of my morning routine is getting my dog, Donovan,
ready for the early part of his day as well. We go to the yard for his bathroom routine, we go inside
where I feed him his diet dog food and inject him with insulin, we go upstairs where I place a new
diaper wrap around his mid section (dogs with diabetes leak, who knew?), and he goes back to bed to
sleep beside my husband. After we say our goodbyes I head to work, or school, or whatever adventure
life has for me that particular day. Rinse, wash, repeat. I had no idea when I was in my teenage years
that my life at 32 years old would be a tattooed, married, full time working, full time schooling,
boring, Puerto Rican, animal lover. Well, the animal loving part I knew since I was maybe 2. I have
many a self concept, the set stable ideas a person has about who he or she is (Floyd 71), some are
obvious and some are not so obvious. When people meet me, they see the identities that are skin deep,
they see the parts of my identity that are more objective, they re based on fact instead of someone s
opinion (Floyd 74). I have tan skin and wavy, frizzy hair so immediately people want to speak to me
in Spanish. While dissecting myself I don t immediately connect with I m a proud Puerto Rican
woman. Although I am incredibly proud of my heritage I am not so engrained in the culture of being

How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments
How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments
The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a
strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population.
The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of
confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and
Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current
events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just
demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack
both.
A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the
debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is
full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that
allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion
of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to
see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155). The work of
Stanley Kurtz tried to prove that allowing same sex marriage in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
decreased the rate of heterosexual marriage

Key Features Of The Mayan Civilization

civilization known for their success in trade and contacts, religious beliefs and development of writing

Some of the Mayans natural resources such as shellfish and dried fish would be exported to coastal
communities and be exported up and across rivers to be delivered to inland centres around
Mesoamerica. An important part of the trading networks and contacts that the Mayans had was the
imported resources that they would receive. During this age in Mesoamerica, especially in Honduras,
the rarity of resources such as pottery clay, hardwood and obsidian glass was a must have. The
Mayans had received these valuable resources from the Olmec s through long distance trade. Obsidian
had such a great value for its multiple purposes such as its use for tombs, art, vases and masks. With
Egyptian economy, it gained its source of wealth through farming and fishing, manufacturing and
mining. Farming and fishing provided fresh fish and vegetables that can be cooked and eaten, or used
as trade offerings. Manufacturing was a large part of Egypt s wealth as it produces raw materials used
in trade. With mining, miners would use tools made from bronze and copper to dig for valuable gems
and minerals such as iron, which had high valuable just about

Milkweed Inhumanity Quotes
In the book, Milkweed shows a theme of compassion versus inhumanity several ways. Milkweed
show the theme compassion versus inhumanity. They were beaten by clubs, kicked out of their own
homes, hanged, bombed and painted by the Jackboots. Milkweed tells the reader the things Misha and
other characters have been mistreated by the inhuman Jackboots In a scene of Milkweed the Jackboots
pressure hosed a jew because, they thought he took the hoof of the horse on the Merry go round. On
Page 67 it states: Someone noosed another rope around his neck. Someone else ripped of his clothes.
They stopped ten meters from the shrinking man of eyes and pointed the hose at him. Water leaped
out. The hose flew out of the Jackboots hands and whipped wildly about like a sliced worm. This
quote shows how cruel the Jackboots were. Imagine yourself being in public rope around neck, no
clothes on, and being hosed down by water hosed. Notice that it says the hose flew out of the
Jackboots hand that means that the water has a lot of pressure. This is all because the Jackboots think
he did it because he s a jew. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Misha has the audacity to go outside the walls of the ghetto and get after

Hyperbole In The Onion
In this press release from The Onion, the author uses humor to satirizes the method by which products

The author(s) of the article brilliantly construct even more unlikely and mocking dialogue to establish

Last Dalai Lama The CEO Paying Everyone $70,000 Salaries Has Something to Hide Bloomberg Businessweek This article interested me because I remember reading a lot in the news about the CEO who was paying his employees $70,000, and I thought that was an extremely noble and kindhearted thing to do. But I also remember seeing something or another about him being sued, which might have caused the salary increases. So, to me, this article was interesting as a means to figure out what really might have happened. However, if he raised salaries because of a lawsuit, I have to give him and his PR team credit because they spun it expertly. He came out looking like a progressive hero, fighting for the little guy. The fear of their affair being shown in broad daylight causes them to send their child to live with his aunt. Milun and his mistress are separated from each other in order to hide their relationship. They maintained their relationship for twenty years by communicating in a unique way. This was done by making the goose fast making the goose hungry so that it would go back to the place where it knows it will surely be fed. Within the time gap of twenty years, their son grows older and learns about his father and all his chivalrous actions. In the excitement of knowing his father s virtues Milun s son sets out on a journey to find him. In order to have honor and integrity one must be able to sacrifice their own personal happiness. In lines 279 280 For twenty years they lived like this, Milun and his mistress. • 5. Letter From Birmingham Jail Rhetorical Analysis In Martin Luther King s A Letter from Birmingham Jail , the rhetorical appeals of kairos, logos and especially pathos are implied heavily throughout the piece, effectively responding to the absurdity of the eight clergymen s letter and to the civil disobedience displayed in the racial protests. Over the course of the letter, MLK makes multiple allusions to ancient philosophers, such as Socrates and Aquinas, as well as Bible verses and their lessons. King establishes himself as someone who is educated in the events happening in the community of Birmingham. Providing endless examples of personal anecdotes and details of the horrific events that he finds upsetting supports his knowledge on the civil disobedience. We have waited for more than 340 years for our constitutional and God given rights. (Language Acts!175) MLK s progress embodies respect and dignity, however because of the emotional appeals he is drawn to fight for the cause, and will not remain inactive. Martin Luther King relies on his extensive use of pathos to pull sympathy and guilt from the audience, the clergymen and people of Birmingham. The major moments of pathos in Letter from Birmingham Jail come in the parts about the suffering of the African American community. In order for MLK s argument to make sense, he supplied personal anecdotes for the audience to understand why the situation is unjust. So he gives a vivid picture of what Black Americans had to go through in the segregated South. ...when you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children. ( Language Acts!) I find the above section to evoke the most empathy (in my eyes) because it speaks to the child; the effects of racism and segregation on those too young to understand. It also opens the eyes as to the bitterness segregation bred in those children to the clergymen, whom work directly with them and for the children to be told no , to be told you can t , to be cheated of dreams and hopes, and to be made to feel hopeless. NINDS also explains how the cerebral hemisphere can be divided into sections, or lobes, and within each lobe contains specific functions. The damage to these lobes can have distinct debilitating effects, so therefore, damage to the left hemisphere can cause aphasia, right sided hemiparesis and memory loss. Shakespeare is a world known English, actor, playwright, and writer. He wrote 38 plays, poems, and sonnets. He is being taught in freshman English classes in high schools, and making these freshmen miserable. Shakespeare should not be included in the 9th grade curriculum because it is hard to understand, not relevant, and meant for the theatre and not a classroom. To begin with, Shakespeare is very hard for most 9th graders to read. Shakespeare uses language that is not modern and students most likely did not learn. Technology And The Positive Effects Of Information Technology Information technology is the study or use of systems, such as computers and smartphones, for storing, retrieving, and sending information. In our society today, it has become more common to own a smartphone. A survey ran in 2015 regarding the ownership of these devices demonstrated that 68% of U.S. adults have a smartphone, rising about 35% since 2011, and tablet ownership is at 45% among adults (PEW Research Center). As of right now technology is becoming a threat to the way we live. Even though technology has created positive impacts in society, it has caused a barrier in human interaction, inactivity in daily life, and has lead to the spread of false news on social platforms. Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps define society and determines how one interacts with others on a daily basis. Over the years, technological advancements have contributed to the barrier in communication that society suffers from today. A study done by the International Center for Media the Public Agenda (ICMPA) found that 1 in 4 people spend time socializing online (Hampton). Through the growing popularity and usage of social media platforms, it has become more simple to remain in contact with others through online platforms. Although it is great to keep in touch with distant friends and relatives, many individuals have taken advantage of this opportunity. The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time is in the point of view of a teenage boy who suffers from a disorder named Christopher. The story through Christopher s eyes is not a typical point of view. Haddon makes use of stream of consciousness when Christopher s storytelling strays from his original point into a point that he believes is of equal importance. The first person perspective is a tool to demonstrate the order and planning that goes on in Christopher s mind. One goal is to expose children to reading, and the other goal is to help the children visualize what is trying to be expressed in the book through the illustrations or pictures. Analogously, The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time uses picture to help the reader visualize important aspects of the book. For many adults, they think that pictures in a book are silly, but in this case it adds to the disorder of this novel. Christopher explains, ... Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture with a Stanley knife and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why all the cars looked the same, because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon 27). Does the reader really need to know the specific details of Christopher s card to his mother? Probably not, but it helps characterize Christopher and show how his brain works. Many people may say that the picture takes away from the order of the book, but it adds detail to the book instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is when he is in the train station. Christopher describes his surroundings, But the train station in Swindon wasn t like that. It was a tunnel and some stairs, and a shop and café and a waiting room like this (Haddon 144). Immediately following this description was a map of the train station. Christopher s autism is what causes him to visualize the map in his head. Lots of people would think it is imbecilic to create a map like that in their heads. On the contrary, it is an advantage to have a map of your surroundings because it may help in a time of terror. Atmosphere and Interior As you make your way towards the bronze doors, and walk under the rectilinear porch, the height and width of the building will fill your vision completely. You have plenty of room to move around and how you see in this area. Even it involves only change in a single base, whether it be insertion, deletion or substitution the effects are significant. The severity of the frame shift depends on how far down the DNA base sequence the mutation occurs (Crick, 1961). It gives rise to the changes in genotype and therefore different phenotype will be expressed. Sometimes mutations can occur in noncoding proteins region and bring no effect to the phenotypic characteristic. This is known as neutral variation. Mutation is a random and spontaneous process during DNA duplication. The formation of a harmful protein may be disadvantageous to the organism. Selection pressure will remove these alleles and it will not be passed on the next generations. On rare occasion, a mutant allele brings advantage to the bearer by making it better adapted to the environment thus increasing the reproductive success. For example, Patagona gigas living in Andean Highlands, an oxygen poor region in South Africa which is 16,000 feet above sea level, experienced identical mutation independently and not by interbreeding. The mutation change their haemoglobin gene make it easier for oxygen to bind (Projecto Garcia, 2013). Hence high altitude hummingbirds have adaptive oxygen binding traits to live in higher elevation zone. Significance of variation within species Wide combinations of alleles from ... John Steinbeck uses the story Of Mice and Men to display the truth behind human aspirations and emotions. Steinbeck exhibits both the kindness and the cruelty that lies within everyone. Through both symbolism and direct statements, the readers can understand the different struggles and motives of each character. Of Mice and Men shows the world through the perspective of many people from different backgrounds, including workers, women, the mentally ill, and colored people. Though the characters appear drastically different, they all have dreams and yearn to belong. In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck is trying to show the importance of friendship, the impossibility of the American dream, and the discrimination in the 1930 s. Many characters in the story go without friendship, causing them to feel alone in the world. George and Lennie are the only characters introduced that stick together. George and Lennie say multiple times that we got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us (Steinbeck 14). Both groups seem to be similar in that they both have a leader and dress similarly. However, looks can be deceiving as they have many cultural differences and various beliefs. These differences create misunderstandings, and lead the French to believe the Algonquin to be a group of savages. The Algonquin also believe the French to not be very intelligent. However, a mission to Huron territory changes both the Algonquin and French, and causes them to better understand each other, creating tolerance, and eventually cultural rapprochement. The French people believe that converting the Algonquin is absolutely critical, and that the Algonquin need not understand the French religion (Blackrobe). In addition, the French believe the Algonquin are not very intelligent and this is shown by the fact that they trade them axes, pots, and flints rather than muskets (Blackrobe). The French almost treat the Algonquin as children when they take them to see the clock. • 17. Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the Nile River. Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on this natural rhythm. When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally. Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that life and even death allowed them to experience. Stonehenge, which derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several times over the centuries, but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. • 31. The Love Triangle in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Love is an exploding cigar we willingly smoke. (Barry). Like Lynda Barry said love is like a ticking time bomb just waiting for the right time to blow someone s face off. For example, in both William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and William Goldman s The Princess Bride there are many similarities between protagonists, antagonists, and their love. Many people are dead in these two stories now because of their harmful love. Love drives these stories and pushes people to the point of suicide. In Romeo and Juliet the two lovebirds sadly fell to the disease of love. Romeo and Juliet were so much in love that they were both willing to die for each other. Juliet wasn t going to marry the Count Paris so she went into a deep sleep almost similar to a coma. As a result, Romeo thought that Juliet was dead because the news did not get to Romeo so he poisoned himself next to Juliet. When Juliet arose, she found Romeo dead next to her coffin. In the United States some progress has been made in reducing air pollution through the Clean Air Acts passed by the Congress. Still there is a lot to be done. To prevent air pollution it is important to understand how the air is being polluted, how it impacts on the ecosystem and what we can do about it. Earth is surrounded by layers of gases known as atmosphere. The layer closest to the earth is called the troposphere. It extends up to ten miles above the surface of the earth. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas which is emitted through the process of incomplete combustion of fossil fuel. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that, when inhaled, combines with the blood and renders them incapable of carrying oxygen. Methane in the troposphere absorbs heat and causes greenhouse effect ( Gutnik pg. 15). A sulfur based gas occurs mostly as sulfur dioxide (SO2) which is a colorless, tasteless, foul smelling , heavier than air gas. Besides naturally produced from activities of the volcanoes or decomposition of organic material in swamps, it also is produced by the burning of sulfur containing fossil fuels. Sulfur dioxide combines with water vapor in the air, forming sulfurous acid (H2SO3), a major component of acid rain ( Gutnik pg. 15). Ozone is a form of oxygen (O3) and a major air pollutant in the troposphere. It is very harsh and irritant to the lungs, and can be a serious problem for people with lung disorders. Charles Hatfield s essay, An Art of Tensions, that comics are marked as being easy to read, when in fact they are a complex means of communication. Comic readers must call upon different reading strategies, or interpretive schema, than they would use in their reading of conventional written text. Chris Ware is often noted as a cartoonist who elevates comics because of the number of literary awards his work has received. Ware got his start in the 1991 in RAW Magazine, continuing his work in his series Acme Novelty Library. One of his most notable comics is Jimmy Corrigan: the Smartest Kid on Earth. Readers learn to appreciate his comics on a higher level because they cannot rush through his work. It s complexity is a result of his use of text, diagrams, and pacing. Comic readers value Ware s artistry because they have to work for understanding. Readers appreciate Chris Ware s work because it s complexity causes the reader to slow down to absorb the information given to them. This is largely due to the pace of the comics. Hatfield says that the author s task is to give the reader an imagined sequence and it s the reader s job is to translate the series into a narrative sequence by achieving closure. The author must develop a rhythm for the reader to follow. So that when they break the rhythm with a single image to give them a key piece of information it has impact. Transference and Counterference Transference and Countertransference by Lisa Marie Hilz Introduction Transference and countertransference are both normal phenomena that may arise during the course of the therapeutic relationship. Understanding these phenomena in nursing is important because the primary focus of nursing is the nurse patient relationship (Imura, 1991). This discussion will describe how these phenomena occur, and how they may manifest in the nurse patient relationship. The goal is to guide the patient to independence by teaching them to assume responsibility for their own behaviors, feelings, and thoughts, and to assign the correct meanings to relationships based on present circumstances instead of the past. Helping the patient work through the transference is beneficial in two important ways: the therapeutic value of the relationship may be restored and even improved, and the patient may also learn to identify this behavior in other relationships, thus improving interpersonal skills. Countertransference Countertransference involves the same principles, except the direction of the transference is reversed. Countertransference, a normal occurrence as well, involves the nurse s reactions, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings toward the patient (Wilson amp; Kniesl, 1996). Unresolved conflicts from the nurse s past may evolve as countertransference. For example, a patient who displays childlike dependency toward a nurse may evoke a parental attitude from that nurse, depending on the meaning that he or she assigns to the relationship with the patient, and if past conflicts are significant to the present situation. Nurses may be completely unaware or only minimally aware of the countertransference as it is occurring. Interventions Interventions for countertransference involve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to maintain a stable environment between these independent elements, cells need to manage what goes in and what goes out of them. This is called homeostasis, a unifying principle of biology that is only possible thanks to the cell membrane. All cells, including plant and animal cells, have a cell membrane. The cell membrane is made out of a phospholipid bilayer, which contain polar heads and nonpolar tails. This unique structure assists in regulating homeostasis by controlling what goes in and what goes out of the cell. From a good harvest, to understanding the purpose of our existence; the belief in the divine provides a platform on which many people can develop answers to universal questions. Through the Shinto and Nordic religions, communities have been able to connect to the divine through their traditions, experiencing their spirituality through worshipping a deity, engaging in festivals and even undertaking pilgrimages. Although their distinctive cultures result in differing religious practices for the Japanese and Norse societies, both strive to make sense of our world, and seek the meaning to human existence. Shintoism is the native religion of Japan, however, unlike most other religions; it claims no sacred text or founder. Because of this, Shintoism is more commonly referred to as a reflection of Japanese culture and history, often blending with other religions, such as Buddhism (O Neal et al., 2007). Being an immanent religion, Shinto values the importance of experiencing harmony with the spirits of the world, known as the kami. Many artists have focused this scene by just painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea. El Greco s Lamentation of Christ is a translation in paint of Michelangelo s late sculptured group of the Pietà in Florence Cathedral, at the time in Rome. The pattern and the feeling are the same. The figures of the Dead Christ, His Mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea make one compact group. Michelangelo achieved this by his new treatment of form; El Greco by paint, by employing broader, more continuous passages of color. The more vivid colors of Rome combine with the richer palette of Venice to convey the intensity of expression demanded by the subject. The horizontal composition of Venice, more suited to a narrative type of subject than to the single image, is given up and is only very rarely found appropriate in Spain. Michelangelo s Pietà group was not the only source on which El Greco drew: the arrangement of Christ s legs and his outspread arms, no less than the idea of viewing one of the two bearers of his body from the side and the other from behind, derive from Michelangelo s drawing for Vittoria Colonna, in which, as in El Greco s painting, the Virgin is placed behind and above Christ. How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population. The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack both. A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155).
