This document discusses a proposed program on water security in Africa run by the OECD Water Governance Initiative. The program would include regional surveys, policy dialogues, an online repository of success stories, and cross-cutting activities. • Regional survey on the water governance in Africa
 Data-driven tool to help decision-makers understand to what extent current policy and
institutional frameworks are fit to ensure water security now and in the future.
 Dedicated questionnaire to map who does what, at which scale, how and why, and
assess key governance gaps in the current institutional frameworks.
 Webinars to discuss interim findings and tentative typologies of countries facing similar
characteristics/challenges to facilitate peer-to-peer exchanges.
 Synthesis report “Water Governance in Africa: a Multi-level Approach” and series of
country-specific snapshots

11. MENU OF ACTIVITIES (2)
• Policy dialogues water governance in Africa
 Zoom on select cases at national, basin and local levels.
 Choice of cases demand-driven and based on criteria such as: i) interest and ownership by
partner country/city/basin; ii) consistence/coherence with the programme; iii) available
funding or in-kind contribution; iv) proven synergy with ongoing initiatives.
 Year-long dialogue incl. desk research, tailored questionnaire to policy makers, and workshop
w/stakeholders to build consensus on key water security challenges, best practices, and
proposed ways forward.
 Synthesis with final results providing evidence-based policy recommendations and pave the
way for follow up work to bridge capacity development and policy implementation gaps.

• Online repository of success stories on water security
 Catalyse concrete solutions and responses to water security challenges
 Call for contribution to all water-relevant networks based on standardised
criteria/questions/templates to be co-designed with relevant partners
 Peer-learning stories to have replicability potential to be adapted in part/full to
other contexts and places.
 Target of 100+ examples to be featured and launched in Dakar in 2021.
