consciousness acording to the text book is a condition in which people, usually in groups that are
relatively powerless, accept beliefs that work against their own self interests. False consciousness has

The movie Jaws was written by Peter Benchley and directed by Steven Spielberg. It created mass
chaos in an unknowing world. In Francis s article The State of Sharks, 40 Years After Jaws, he drives
into the negative and positive effects of Jaws on shark populations. He mostly focuses on Australia
and the United States. Before the movie was released, little was known about sharks. People were
oblivious to the danger, but swimming was not a huge recreational activity. Early sailors wrote
journals about deep sea monsters looming in the darkness, but the public dismissed these tales as pure
folklore (Francis). After the movie was released, the public was terrified and since little was known
about sharks, the media and public accepted the image provided from Jaws. The image of sharks as
rogue man eaters made fishermen rush to the shore to go shark hunting. Sharks were used as game in
competitions, prizes for fishermen trying to protect the shores, and their fins were cut off for shark fin
soup, common in Asia for traditional events (Francis). The fear of sharks was heavily influenced by
the press who, to sell more copies, used over dramatic stories and abstract wording to scare people. As

Shaun of the Dead
In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar
Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes used in both films. I will be
focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and comparing near same scenes within two
different films and the aspects that Edgar Wright was trying to cover.
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the Dead, the scene is
opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with the rest of his team. Shaun says The
Winchester s just over there and David says in a sarcastic tone, Just over there behind the 20 garden
fences? When David is saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans over the fences in which
they have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For example, to show why David is
being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that particular scene, Shaun then says What
s the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? , and smirks while turning behind, and tries to
jump over the fence but ends up making the fence fall over. He then picks himself back up and subtly
tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the fence. The background noise in this scene is filled
with car alarms, house alarms and deep music/sound effects. This creates the effect of a crisis
situation, as they are in a zombie apocalypse.

came from the side of the Triple Entente, or Allies. New fighting strategies that emphasized throwing

throwing men at the Germans who were armed with much better weapons that did nothing but

The Williams Honors College was extremely influential in my college experience. The Williams

With this lesson in mind, I joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, which deepened my friendships and
enthusiasm for service. Through Phi Delta Theta, I also had a chance to meet passionate University of
Akron alumni who deepened my commitment to the Akron community. I also sought out internships
earlier than most students in my field, and was able to complete two before entering my senior year.
During the summer following my sophomore year, I was honored to have the opportunity to complete
an internship with the J.M. Smucker Company. More recently, I completed an internship with Ernst
Young, LLP, one of the four largest professional services firms in the world, where I will be working
full time upon graduation. I would not have had the knowledge or the confidence to pursue these
opportunities without the mentoring I received through the Williams Honors College.
Though the Williams Honors College had a tremendous impact on my undergraduate days, I am very
excited about how it will impact my future. The Honors College has deepened my commitment to the
University of Akron and the greater Akron community. Though neither of my parents are from Akron,
they moved me here when I was two years old. Akron is my home and my time at the University has
secured my roots. I am appreciative of everything the Williams Honors College has given me, and I

The world population is around 7 billion people and every person produces about 4.4 pounds of waste
per day. More people will lead to the increase of wastes products and then will increase the risk of
environmental issues. Today, the world able to recycle only 30% of waste products. According to
Environmental Protection Agency Approximately 55% of 220 million tons of waste generated each
year in the United States ends up in one of the over 3,500 landfills. Municipal solid waste landfills are
the second largest source of human related methane emissions in the United States, accounting for
approximately 22 percent of these emissions in 2008

I believe I my lesson was well structured, directed and organized. I had 2 lines facing for partner
throwing and 4 quadrants for the shuffling drill. I give demonstrations before and during the activities
to reinforce my expectations. Before I would begin to talk I would always say, when I am talking you
are...? and the students would reply saying, not. Moreover, the students understood when I said, park it
in the garage that I wanted all footballs on the floor and out of students hands. My organization was
tested toward the end of the lesson. Coach Dennis struggled with his side of the class room causing
my group to struggles as well. However, I was not horrible to the point that the task could not be

In the beginning, some students struggled with catching from any distance, yet their performance and
effort was great. In the last activity (Leap Frog) their skill level was moderate, some struggled with
shuffling simply because they did not have on appropriate gym wear. When I noticed this a gave a

recording. Going forward, technologists in today s computer age are becoming more and more
creative. There has even been proof that some researchers have had a hand in altering the course of

According to history, the first sound was recorded mechanically by Édouard Léon Scott de Martinville

in urban Bristol. Each photo will be paired with an in depth explanation of the background and
practical use of these particular construction techniques. This will then be accompanied by an address

Writing rhetorically is often a hard task for writers to do, it s also one of the best ways for the people
reading your work to understand visually the message you are trying to describe to them. When
writing in general the best thing you can do for the readers of your work is to describe the visual
elements for them in a fun and intuitive matter. And Gustavo Arellano the author of Taco USA: How
Mexican Food Became More American Than Apple Pie did exactly that. His use of different visual
elements throughout the story was very well done and added a lot of great qualities to the text itself.
Examples of Arellano s use of visual elements are even in the titles of each of his different story
headings. Arellano s titles are not only clever, they also add a great insight into what the next section
of his overall paper is going to be about. The first section of his paper is titled Imperialism And
Enchiladas . And it s a great section about how Mexican food changed America forever. Within the
first few paragraphs of this section Arellano not only describes the setting of his work he also jumps
right into the main topic that he will be discussing, Mexican food. Arellano coming from Hispanic
heritage himself grew up eating and loving Mexican food. So when he traveled to South Dakota in the
middle of the United States, he was greatly surprised to find out that google maps found four Mexican
restaurants in one city. But he was even more surprised to find how many locals enjoyed these
restaurants and how Americanized the food was. He described his astonishment when he tried his first
Potato Oles from fast food giant Taco Johns. They were Stuffed into a breakfast burrito, nacho cheese
sauce slowing oozing out from the bottom of the flour tortilla. There is nothing remotely Mexican
about Potato Oles not even the quasi Spanish name. And it s with this creative and insightful
description that we learn that the author really knows his stuff when it comes to true Mexican cuisine.
