Senior High School is two years of
specialized upper secondary education;
students may choose a specialization
based on aptitude, interests, and
school capacity. The choice of career
track will define the content of the
subjects a student will take in Grades
11 and 12.

track will help you prepare yourself for the
subject specialization of the college
course you will take in the future.
ACADEMIC TRACKS
Four strands in this track to choose from:
 General Academic Strand ( GAS )
 Humanities and Social Sciences
(HUMMS ) Strand
 Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM ) Strand
 Accountancy, Business and Management
(ABM ) Strand
General Academic Strand ( GAS )
This strand is for learners who are not yet
decided on what course to take in college. It is
possible that the learner will be given bridging
courses to assess his/her preparedness for the
field of study he/she will choose in the future.
General Academic Strand ( GAS )
What are the subjects in this strand?
Some subjects offered are Humanities, Social
Sciences, Applied Economics, Organization and
Management, and Disaster Preparedness
Humanities
Humanities can be any of the specialized subjects in
the Humanities and Social Sciences (HumSS) Strand.
This could be Creative Writing / Malikhaing Pagsulat;
Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems;
Creative Nonfiction; Trends, Networks, and Critical
Thinking in 21st Century Culture.
Social Science
- subjects can be Philippine Politics and
Governance; Community Engagement,
Solidarity, and Citizenship; Disciplines and
Ideas in the Social Sciences; Disciplines and
Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences.
General Academic Strand ( GAS )
Subjects in this Strand
Specialization in GAS
a. Humanities 1*
b. Humanities 2*
c. Social Science 1**
Applied Economics (Grade 11 students)
-will discuss basic economic problems of the country;
analyze market structures; and study strategies to
minimize negative impact and maximize positive
impact of businesses in the community.
Organization and Management
(Grade 11 Students)
-introduces students to analytical tools like Political
Economic Social and Technological (PEST) and
Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats
(SWOT) that can be used when starting business
ventures.
Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction
(Grade 11-12)
-students will analyze disasters from different
perspectives; explain and differentiate disasters; and
identify areas that are exposed and prone to
destructive calamities.
Humanities and Social Sciences
(HUMMS ) Strand
• The HUMMS strand is designed for those who wonder
what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you
are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people.
This is for those who are considering taking up
journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education,
and other social science-related courses in college.
• If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to
becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a
social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses
on improving your communication skills.
What are the subjects in this strand?
Part of the curriculum includes introduction to
world religions, Philippine and world
literature, political and community
development specialization subjects, and
more.
Specialization in HUMSS
1. Creative Writing (Grade 11-12 students)
The course aims to develop practical and creative skills in
reading and writing, introduce students to the fundamental
techniques of writing fiction, poetry, and drama, and discuss
the use of such as techniques by well-known authors and
variety of genres.
2. Creative Non-Fiction: The Literacy Essay (Grade 11-12
students)
It is focusing on formal elements and writing techniques,
including autobiography and blogging, among others, the
subject introduce the students to the reading and writing of
Creative Nonfiction as a literary form. This subject develops
student’s skills in reading, and thinking critically and
creatively that will help them to be imaginative reader and
writers.
3. World Religion and Belief Systems (Grade 12
students)
The course explores the main tenets and practices of major
world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and
etc. It aims to help learners understand the historical
contexts of nine religions, appreciate their uniqueness and
similarities and promote mutual understanding among
believers of different faiths.
4. Trends, Networks and Critical thinking in the 21st
Century (Grade 12 students)
It provides opportunities for student to discover pattern and
extract meanings from emerging trends. It aids in
developing their critical and creative thinking skills—
essential tools for decision making and understanding
“ethics of care.
5. Philippine Politics and Governance (Grade 12 students)
This course introduces the students to the basic concepts
and vital elements of politics and governance from a
historical- institutional perspective. In particular, it attempts to
explain how the important features of our country’s political
structures/ institutions, processes and relationships
developed across time.
6. Community Engagement, Social Participations and
Citizenship (Grade 12 students)
It is focuses on the application of ideas and methods of the
social science to understand, investigate and examine
challenges of contemporary community life.

  • 1. The Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K to12) SUBTOPIC: Tracks in Senior High School
  • 2. Senior High School is two years of specialized upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12.
  • 3. Four tracks Grade 11 Grade 12 Academic TechVoc Sports Arts and Design
  • 4. Academic Tracks Choosing this track means you are looking forward to go to college. This track will help you prepare yourself for the subject specialization of the college course you will take in the future.
  • 5. ACADEMIC TRACKS Four strands in this track to choose from:  General Academic Strand ( GAS )  Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS ) Strand  Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM ) Strand  Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM ) Strand
  • 6. General Academic Strand ( GAS ) This strand is for learners who are not yet decided on what course to take in college. It is possible that the learner will be given bridging courses to assess his/her preparedness for the field of study he/she will choose in the future.
  • 7. General Academic Strand ( GAS ) What are the subjects in this strand? Some subjects offered are Humanities, Social Sciences, Applied Economics, Organization and Management, and Disaster Preparedness Humanities Humanities can be any of the specialized subjects in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HumSS) Strand. This could be Creative Writing / Malikhaing Pagsulat; Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems; Creative Nonfiction; Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking in 21st Century Culture.
  • 8. Social Science - subjects can be Philippine Politics and Governance; Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship; Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences; Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences.
  • 9. General Academic Strand ( GAS ) Subjects in this Strand Specialization in GAS a. Humanities 1* b. Humanities 2* c. Social Science 1** Applied Economics (Grade 11 students) -will discuss basic economic problems of the country; analyze market structures; and study strategies to minimize negative impact and maximize positive impact of businesses in the community.
  • 10. Organization and Management (Grade 11 Students) -introduces students to analytical tools like Political Economic Social and Technological (PEST) and Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) that can be used when starting business ventures. Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (Grade 11-12) -students will analyze disasters from different perspectives; explain and differentiate disasters; and identify areas that are exposed and prone to destructive calamities.
  • 11. Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS ) Strand • The HUMMS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college. • If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses on improving your communication skills.
  • 12. What are the subjects in this strand? Part of the curriculum includes introduction to world religions, Philippine and world literature, political and community development specialization subjects, and more.
  • 13. Specialization in HUMSS 1. Creative Writing (Grade 11-12 students) The course aims to develop practical and creative skills in reading and writing, introduce students to the fundamental techniques of writing fiction, poetry, and drama, and discuss the use of such as techniques by well-known authors and variety of genres. 2. Creative Non-Fiction: The Literacy Essay (Grade 11-12 students) It is focusing on formal elements and writing techniques, including autobiography and blogging, among others, the subject introduce the students to the reading and writing of Creative Nonfiction as a literary form. This subject develops student’s skills in reading, and thinking critically and creatively that will help them to be imaginative reader and writers.
  • 14. 3. World Religion and Belief Systems (Grade 12 students) The course explores the main tenets and practices of major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and etc. It aims to help learners understand the historical contexts of nine religions, appreciate their uniqueness and similarities and promote mutual understanding among believers of different faiths. 4. Trends, Networks and Critical thinking in the 21st Century (Grade 12 students) It provides opportunities for student to discover pattern and extract meanings from emerging trends. It aids in developing their critical and creative thinking skills— essential tools for decision making and understanding “ethics of care.
  • 15. 5. Philippine Politics and Governance (Grade 12 students) This course introduces the students to the basic concepts and vital elements of politics and governance from a historical- institutional perspective. In particular, it attempts to explain how the important features of our country’s political structures/ institutions, processes and relationships developed across time. 6. Community Engagement, Social Participations and Citizenship (Grade 12 students) It is focuses on the application of ideas and methods of the social science to understand, investigate and examine challenges of contemporary community life.
