Fast Facts Dragonflies belong to 28 insect orders. Their skeleton is in the outside of their body. Dragonflies are  found worldwide. They have four elongated wings, a mouth, and two short antennaes. Dragonflies are ancient flying insects.
Mouth Part Dragonflies eat other animals. Dragonflies use its labial mask (lower lip)to grab prey. Dragonflies eat small insects including small frogs.  mouth
Body Description Dragonflies have bodies. It has a head, a thorax, a abdomen, six legs, and lastly two antennae. A dragonflies' head is larger compared to its body.
Head  Dragonflies have five senses just like humans. Dragonflies use its eyes on its head to see things that humans cannot. When nymphs (baby dragonflies) can’t find food they use their antennae from the top of its head to find food.
Thorax/ abdomen A dragonfly has a thorax and a abdomen. The thorax of the dragonfly is located near its head. The abdomen of a dragonfly is located at the bottom of the dragonfly.   thorax   abdomen
Unusual Characteristic Back in the carboniferous period the wingspan of dragonflies were 76cm, now there about 2.5 cm. Dragonflies get their body tempeture from their environment. Dragonflies wingspan determines their size.
Life Cycle  Dragonflies lay there eggs in water. Nymphs then spend some time in the water to continue its metamorphosis. Once nymphs shed there skin, they spend there rest of their life out of the water. nymphs eggs Adult
