Rome became politically unstable over 50 years with 22 different emperors fighting for the throne. Corruption spread as government officials accepted bribes, fewer talented people served in government, and wealthy citizens refused to pay taxes. As a result, infrastructure like roads and bridges fell into disrepair, trade routes became unsafe due to invaders, and hunger spread as not enough farmers worked the land. Various tribes and groups like the Huns repeatedly invaded the empire, which had grown too large to defend effectively.

Roman empire
- 2. Rome became very unstable for 50 years. They fought for the throne. They had 22 different emperors. Many government officials took bribes which caused a big problem. Many talented people refused to serve in government.
- 3. Wealthy citizen’s refused to pay taxes. Fewer people attended school.
- 4. There wasn’t enough farmers so hunger started to spread. Roads and bridges were destroyed. Trade routes became unsafe because all the invaders.
- 5. The Roman solders seized crops and destroyed bridges. They had to stay away from bribes. Different tribes tried to attack the Roman empire.
- 6. The barbarians invaded and tried to destroy the empire. They invaded it because it was really big. Some groups called the Huns were run out of the Asia minor.
