The concepts of digital literacy
• As Paul Gilster said, “digital literacy is the
ability to understand information and – more
important- to evaluate and integrate
information in multiple formats that the
computer can deliver. Being able to evaluate
and interpret information is critical [...] you
can’t understand information you find on the
internet without evaluating its sources and
placing it in context.”
The concepts of digital literacy
• Is the ability to understand and use
information in mutiple formats from a wide
range of sources when it is presented by
computers.
Digital literacy in society
• When you’re engaged in digital literacy, you
can do many things that streamline the life
like shopping online or accessing public
services;
• As a student, you can improve your skills by
performing different activities and targeted to
your needs, and open up the possibility of
many online interactions via computer;
Digital literacy in society
• The digital literacy can promote the digital
inclusion of many who don’t have access to
some virtual media or those who have
difficulty learning how to drive on new
devices, such as older people.
Digital literacy in education: basic
competences for teachers and learners
• Students can access information more easily, as a
growing amount of data is available in digital
repositories that are much easier to access than
traditional, paper-based resources for learning;
• The most important components of digital literacy are
common for future computer users and ICT
professionals: accessing, managing, evaluating,
integrating, creating, and communicating information
individually or collaboratively in a networked,
computersupported, and web-based environment for
learning, working, or leisure;
Digital literacy in education: basic
competences for teachers and learners
• Integration is another skill that is relevant for
all basic competences;
• Improving teaching practices to contribute to
a higher quality education system – one that
will produce a better-informed citizenry and a
higher quality workforce that can, as a result,
advance a country’s economic and social
development.
21st century skills
• In order to develop adequate 21st century
skills among students, educators should be
authentic ICT users and integrate digital
literacy with other core competences in their
professional and private lives;
• Teachers’ digital literacy must involve
knowledge and skills about educational policy
and ethical use of ICTs, and they must keep
abreast of innovation in digital pedagogy;
21st century skills
• Teachers’ digital literacy must incorporate the
ability to use ICTs effectively in teaching, learning,
professional development, and school
organisation – different sets of skills are required
in each of those areas;
• The content and development of digital literacy
must be different in the 21st century, home to
the fourth generation of computer users, the Y
generation, children of the Netizens of the 1980s;
21st century skills
• Digital literacy education also has to prepare
for new challenges of the 21st century: the
use of Social Web applications, ecosystems of
participation that enable collaborative
knowledge construction and creativity.
Global impact of digital literacy
• The world is getting a lot of information at
once. The digital literacy brings a real
revolution in educational systems, especially
regarding the teaching of foreign languages,
with the main point in inclusion and
interactions distance.
My conclusions
• I believe that with this concept of learning can
improve and teaching through CALL, since
technological advances are continuous and
there is always something new to be learned;
• Digital literacy is very important for any type
of inclusion and to take the weight of that
learning is only within traditional ways room;
My conclusions
• We have a new opportunity to improve our
work as teachers and reach new audiences
who come wanting to learn languages in other
ways that are easier and interesting;
• Moreover, we can also follow the teaching
methods of other places of quiet way without
getting lost in the constant technological
updates as we will be always following all.

The concepts of digital literacy • As Paul Gilster said, “digital literacy is the ability to understand information and – more important- to evaluate and integrate information in multiple formats that the computer can deliver. Being able to evaluate and interpret information is critical [...] you can’t understand information you find on the internet without evaluating its sources and placing it in context.”
  • 3. The concepts of digital literacy • Is the ability to understand and use information in mutiple formats from a wide range of sources when it is presented by computers.
  • 4. Digital literacy in society • When you’re engaged in digital literacy, you can do many things that streamline the life like shopping online or accessing public services; • As a student, you can improve your skills by performing different activities and targeted to your needs, and open up the possibility of many online interactions via computer;
  • 5. Digital literacy in society • The digital literacy can promote the digital inclusion of many who don’t have access to some virtual media or those who have difficulty learning how to drive on new devices, such as older people.
  • 6. Digital literacy in education: basic competences for teachers and learners • Students can access information more easily, as a growing amount of data is available in digital repositories that are much easier to access than traditional, paper-based resources for learning; • The most important components of digital literacy are common for future computer users and ICT professionals: accessing, managing, evaluating, integrating, creating, and communicating information individually or collaboratively in a networked, computersupported, and web-based environment for learning, working, or leisure;
  • 7. Digital literacy in education: basic competences for teachers and learners • Integration is another skill that is relevant for all basic competences; • Improving teaching practices to contribute to a higher quality education system – one that will produce a better-informed citizenry and a higher quality workforce that can, as a result, advance a country’s economic and social development.
  • 8. 21st century skills • In order to develop adequate 21st century skills among students, educators should be authentic ICT users and integrate digital literacy with other core competences in their professional and private lives; • Teachers’ digital literacy must involve knowledge and skills about educational policy and ethical use of ICTs, and they must keep abreast of innovation in digital pedagogy;
  • 9. 21st century skills • Teachers’ digital literacy must incorporate the ability to use ICTs effectively in teaching, learning, professional development, and school organisation – different sets of skills are required in each of those areas; • The content and development of digital literacy must be different in the 21st century, home to the fourth generation of computer users, the Y generation, children of the Netizens of the 1980s;
  • 10. 21st century skills • Digital literacy education also has to prepare for new challenges of the 21st century: the use of Social Web applications, ecosystems of participation that enable collaborative knowledge construction and creativity.
  • 11. Global impact of digital literacy • The world is getting a lot of information at once. The digital literacy brings a real revolution in educational systems, especially regarding the teaching of foreign languages, with the main point in inclusion and interactions distance.
  • 12. My conclusions • I believe that with this concept of learning can improve and teaching through CALL, since technological advances are continuous and there is always something new to be learned; • Digital literacy is very important for any type of inclusion and to take the weight of that learning is only within traditional ways room;
  • 13. My conclusions • We have a new opportunity to improve our work as teachers and reach new audiences who come wanting to learn languages in other ways that are easier and interesting; • Moreover, we can also follow the teaching methods of other places of quiet way without getting lost in the constant technological updates as we will be always following all.
