Air Force Core Values
In the early 1990 s the Chief of staff, Merrill A. McPeak, originally posted the six core values of
the United States Air Force which consisted of integrity, tenacity, courage, patriotism, competence,
and service. It wasn t until a few years later that those six core values were merged into three. The
three core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially
embraced by the United StatesAir Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character
expected from those within the branch of service (Lt Col Tower, P., Lt Col Dunford, D, n.d.).
Today these core values are the three basic fundamentals of life in the family known as the United
States Air Force. Every person in the United States... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking
(United States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key
traits; honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for
others but yourself as well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of
each trait mentioned above from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity.
The first trait I would like to review with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of
honestly. It could be as simple as telling someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake
you may have made in your life. Several years back, I was riding my bicycle at a high rate of
speed and flew around a sharp corner. I came around the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle
into a brand new car that just happened to be parked on the side of the road. As you can
imagine, I flew over my handle bars and landed on the car. The accident left minor damage to
vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it never happened,
though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the owner of the
car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you must have

Interval Training Versus Aerobic Exercise Analysis
Interval training and continuous aerobic exercise are two of the most common cardio exercises
practiced by athletes today. However, one is slightly better than the other when looking at
performance increases. An easy way to measure performance increases is to examine the VO2 max
of an individual before and after a training period. VO2 maxis the measure of how much oxygen a
body can take in from the air. It is a great reflection of physical fitnessbecause it reflects how
efficiently a person can use oxygen which is needed for most exercises, especially cardio. Interval
training is when a person switches between two activities that vary in intensity or effort. Continuous
aerobic exerciseis when a person performs an activity at the same intensity... Show more content on

Anaerobic energy is energy that is produced in the absence of oxygen. On the other hand, aerobic
energy is energy that is produced in the presence of oxygen. The difference in energy pathway may
explain the difference in VO2 increases between interval training and continuous aerobic exercise.
Many people struggle to incorporate cardio into their workout routine because they think they must
run endless miles to see results. This excuse is invalid because interval training can provide just as
many health benefits, if not more, than continuous aerobic exercise. Even though interval training
has been shown to improve performance in many people, a blend of interval training and
continuous aerobic exercise that is designed for an individual s goals is the best approach to
implement cardio. Interval training results in greater performance increases and more motivation to
exercise than continuous aerobic training in many types of people, including well trained athletes,
diabetics, children, and people with Down syndrome. However, the most important thing is for
people to incorporate cardio into their exercise

Why Does Seymour Kill Himself
Seymour kills himself as a victim of his own inability to reconnect to real society after his
wartime experience. Right from the get go, when Muriel s mother expresses that there s a very
great chance... that Seymour may completely lose control of himself (Salinger 2), we see how
people surrounding Seymour are concerned for his mental health due to a host of his previous
erratic behaviors. These include funny business with the trees [when driving] , that business with
the window [he broke it] , and the horrible things he said to Granny about her plans for passing
away (Salinger 2), which when compounded, clearly demonstrates Seymour s struggle to reconnect
with society. His disconnection is also emphasized when he kisses Sybil s foot

Essay on Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury was a dreamer. Bradbury had a skill at putting his dreams onto paper, and into
books. He dreams dreams of magic and transformation, good and evil, small town America and
the canals of Mars. His dreams are not only popular, but durable. His work consists of short
stories, which are not hard to publish, and keep in the public eye. His stories have stayed in print for
nearly three decades.
Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920, in a small town of Waukegan,
Illinois. His parents were Leonard Spaulding and Esther Moberg Bradbury. His mother, Esther
Moberg loved films, she gave her son the middle name Douglas because of Douglas Fairbanks, and

High School yearbook, the following prediction appeared beneath his picture:
Likes to write stories Admired as a thespian Headed for literary distinction
After graduation Bradbury sold newspapers until he saved up enough money to buy a typewriter
and rent a small office. In the early 1940 s his stories appeared regularly in Weird Tales. quot;I
sold a story every month there for three or four years when I was (in my early twenties). Made the
magnificent sum of twenty dollars for each story. quot; Bradbury sold his first stories in 1945 to
quot;slick quot; magazines Collier s, Charm, and Mademoiselle.
Shortly after his marriage to Marguerite Susan McClure in 1947,
Bradbury s first book, Dark Carnival, was published by Arkham House. About this time, the idea
for an important book about Mars, a collection of loosely connected stories, came to Bradbury.
The subjects that engage Bradbury s pen are many: magic, horror, and monsters; rockets, robots,
time and space travel; growing up in the Midwest town in the 1920 s, and growing old in an
abandoned Earth colony on another planet.
Despite their themes, his stories contain a sense of wonder, often a sense of joy, and a lyrical and
rhythimic touch that sets his work apart.
Using an analytical approach to such stories is to do a kind of violence to them, but between the
dream and the finished story is a

Finding Balance Between Chaos and Order in Woolf s To The...
Regardless if found in reality, both the present or past, or found in comparable literary works, the
constant battle and endless war between order and chaos, emotions and thoughts, follows humanity
mercilessly. These opposing concepts also take form in ideas such the thesis and the antitheses that
with every idea or concept, sooner or later an opposing force or contradicting theory will rise and
ultimately challenge and change the previous state of society, individual or even in the natural
world. The war that rages between order and chaos easily applies to this philosophical notion. Both
states, chaos and order, seem to and most likely will continue to inevitably occur and then counter
act the other. Although a society or an individual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lilly Briscoe, a strong willed and rather independent painter, acts throughout the novel as the
antitheses of Mrs. Ramsay. Where Mrs. Ramsay acts placid and cordial, and conforms to the
demands society projects, Lilly acts upon her own desires and will, primarily in regards to the
realms of painting and marriage. As the story progresses the reader finds that painting lies at the
core of Lillie s self, and she uses it as the means to maintain her inner balance. In the end, Lily
accomplishes the balance of order and chaos, by choosing her own desires over the pressures
ensued by society, and Mrs. Ramsay fails, adhering to the standards and demands placed on her,
and ultimately dying after living a life of demanding servitude.
The pressure to marry and cease her artistic pursuits seems to act as the most significant struggle
Lily Briscoe faces throughout the course of the novel. Because, Mrs. Ramsay can t stand for a
woman of her acquaintance to remain unwed, she sets Lily up with William Bankes, an older
widower and longtime friend of Mr. Ramsay s. Thus, enter the pull for Lilly to conform to the
standard definition of a woman during the time. However, this relationship significantly contrasts
the one Lily share s with Mr. Ramsay. An incredibly domineering, oppressive influence on Lily s
paintings, Mr. Ramsay tends to make it nearly impossible for Lily to paint as she

Pros And Cons For Vaccination
I.Topic: Required Vaccinations
Intro: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimated that 732,000 American children were
saved from death and 322 million cases of childhood illnesses were prevented between 1994 and
2014 due to vaccination (Vaccines ProCon.org)
A.Claim: The benefits and possible risks of vaccinations has led to divided positions on if
vaccinations should be required for children.
B.Perspectives being discussed: pro required vaccination and anti required vaccination
C.inherent issues funding, mandates and individual rights, and safety

A. funding and costs
1. Evidence
Pro: majority of funding for research and development is paid through vaccination sales and
independent donations (2/3) cuts a lot of public s expense down/creates more opportunities for
better vaccinations
cost less in time and money to obtain vaccine than infectious diseases cost in time off of work to
care for a sick child, potential long term disability care, and medical costs (CDC)
The United States saves about $27 per $1 invested in DTaP vaccination, and $13 per $1 spent on
MMR vaccination. UNICEF estimates that $6.2 billion could be saved in treatment costs if
vaccines were more prominent in the world s poorest countries. (Herper, 2014)
Anti: Vaccines are expensive. Tax payers 36% of vaccination research and development annually

Life Of A First Generation College Student
My time spent at Cogswell Polytechnical College has been one of a great experience thus,
making me more appreciative of the financial hardships my family continues to endure in order
for me to attend such a prestigious university. There is no one in my family to have made it this
far academically as I am living the life of a first generation college student. Now, being the only
person out of my other nine siblings to identify as a college student raises a lot of concern from
the adults of the family as well as intrapersonal stress. The annual income my family lives off of
could be considered at poverty level, therefore financials are allocated properly by priority with
my education not being one of them. Just as society views eighteen to be the threshold of
adulthood, so do my parents. Consequently, I am attending college strictly on my own and this is
what makes me suitable candidate for the Dragon scholarship. Simply put, anything to financially
assist in my schooling would definitely relieve the stress of wondering if Cogswell will just one
day become too expensive for me to attend. When furthering my education, problems within my
family didn t only occur at the idea of myself attending college but the logistics of doing so. It was
this conflict of, in a way, restarting life as my hometown is Vallejo and commuting to San Jose was
just not an option. Nonetheless, San Jose was first foreign to me, but thanks to the short journey

Organ Transplants
Organ Transplants are done everyday, hearts, lungs, kidneys and so many more. The strange thing
is people and scientist are beginning to think that possible memories are stored in these organs.
People have began to show different characteristics after they have had an organ transplant surgery.
Most scientist have had actual meetings with recipients and the donors to actually try and figure
out why our organs are able to do this. Even though the research scientist have done does not fully
say for sure whether or not this is actually a proven fact they are almost positive this could be the
reasoning behind the recipients starting to have different characteristics in the way they live. Organ

this is true. Many scientist have come in contact with people and talked about their
characteristics altering after their operation. I do believe in the possibility of other people s
organs and our hearts transmitting electromagnetic fields which are leading people to believe
this is why we feel the way we do around certain people. Or this could be the reason why our
moods are able to change when were are around people who we are close to according to their

Henley informed the officer that he was the individual who had made the call and indicated that
Corll was lying dead inside the house. After confiscating the pistol and placing Henley, Williams
and Kerley inside the patrol car, the officer entered the bungalow and discovered Corll s dead
body inside the hallway. In custody, Henley explained that, for almost three years, he and David
Brooks had helped procure teenage boys some of whom were their own friends for Corll, who
had raped and murdered them. Corll had paid $200 for each victim he or Brooks were able to
lure to his apartment. Henley gave a statement admitting he had assisted Corll in several
abductions and murders of teenage boys, informing police that Corll had buried most of his
victims in a boat shed in Southwest Houston, and others at Lake Sam Rayburn and High Island
Beach. Henley agreed to accompany police to Corll s boat shed in Southwest Houston, where
he claimed the bodies of most of the victims could be found. Inside Corll s boat shed, police
found a half stripped car, which turned out to have been stolen from a used car lot in March, a
child s bike, empty bags of lime, and a box full of teenage boys clothing. Police begin to excavate
Corll s boat shed on August 8, 1973. Police began digging through the soft, shell crushed earth of

A New Planning Format Into A Nursery Setting Essay
In this task the introduction of a new planning format into a nursery setting will be discussed. The
impact on teachers, staff, pupils and parents will be critically analysed and suggestions for
improvements made.
The private day nursery is situated on the outskirts of a Staffordshire market town, surrounded by
countryside. This 77 place day nursery caters for 117 children of 0 to 8 years of age, including
those with special educational needs, disabilities and those who have English as an additional
language. There are 25 nursery practitioners within the setting with qualifications ranging from
level two to level five and with one Qualified Teacher Status. Thirteen members of staff are part
time, doing various hours throughout the week. The Nursery was re registered in 2003 and is
managed by a partnership (Ofsted, 2014).
The Rationale for the new planning within the private day nursery is that it enables staff to carry
out observations throughout four months rather than the previous three. This allocates more time
for children to focus on an area of learning. Jarvis et al (2008) positions that the EYFS Medium
term plans (Appendix 1) are based on a topic.
Planning should be flexible and used as a guide (Early Years Matters, 2016). The EYFS 2012 was a
flexible guide due to it being non statutory, however, the EYFS 2014 is now a statutory framework
for practitioners to follow and providing planned opportunities for children s needs and interests

The Gilded And Progressive Eras

Reforming America
The gilded and progressive eras in America were times of expansion, urbanization, and what
seemed like a golden pathway to an industrialized future. In the 1850s, railroads were being built
all across America, and with that came the rise of the steel and oil industries, as well as dramatic
population increases in the newly urbanized cities. Such a change in society created a gap between
social classes causes incredible amounts of poverty for many, and incredible wealth for few. Three
main struggles during this crucial time in America were political corruption, the rapid expansion of
urban cities, and the unfair, and unsafe working conditions. Through these difficult times, many
different types of reform were supported, but few were actually effective. One of the largest
problems facing Americans during the gilded age and progressive era was political corruption. The
late 1800s and early 1900s were filled with political machines such as George Plunkitt and James
Gillespie Blaine. Plunkitt was known as the leader of Tammany Hall, an Irish based organization
that was heavy in politics during the 19th century. Politicians affiliated with Tammany Hall would
provide jobs, money or other favors and in return would receive government favors. Although
Plunkitt believed he was doing no wrong, many Americans saw this as taking the patronage system
for granted. During an interview, Plunkitt said, I

There s nothing better than a relaxing dip in the cool water on a hot summer s day. However, did
you know that everyday 10 people die from unintentional drowning? Drowning in fact ranks fifth
among the leading causes of unintentional injury deathin the U.S. Additionally, about 1 in 5 people
who die from drowning are children ages 14 and younger, and for children in this age group
drowning is the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury death. When you are out enjoying
recreational water activities it s important to be aware of all important safetymeasures. Sadly, it can

Hezbollah launched Katyusha rockets on Israeli positions in villages such as Zar it. Five civilians

coordinated an attack on two Israeli Humvees with a group of Hezbollah fighters near the border in

the other Humvee and capture two Israeli soldiers and transport them to Lebanon. The point of
this capture was to negotiate a prisoner exchange, but what Hezbollah received in return was a

Amazon s Strategic Issue Of Amazon
One of the weaknesses that Amazon has would be their operational issue. Amazon is a big
company and their operational issues should be considered a weakness. The reason why they
could possibly have an operational issue can either be that they accidently or purposely overlooked
the issue, or assumed that they will be fine and the planwould be successful. Either way, this issue
could have been stopped. To big companies like Amazon, receiving a filing complaint should be
common but it is not something they should get used to or else it can result in a decrease in
reputation, revenue decrease, or even both. But there are some alternative solutions that can be
considered. Operational Issues Alternative One One solution that Amazon can use would be to take
advantage of the legal team and also have them thoroughly go through and identifying potential
danger problems including patents that might cause a potential infringement. For the issue of
patents as an example, doing a careful infringement review during the product concept stage can
help the company be assured that they would not have to worry about carrying a high risk of
liability. The advantage of this alternative is that the planneror the team of planners is not the only
one reviewing the paper. Having someone review the planmight catch more potential problems that
the planner might not have seen or missed so this can greatly increase the chance of verifying all
the potential problems. The disadvantage is that it can

Mad Men Essay
The influence of the media on women is not unknown, but it was especially prevalent in the
1960s. According to David Croteau and William Hoynes, both professors of sociology, Media
images of women and men reflect and reproduce a whole set of stereotypical but changing gender
roles (quoted in Mahrdt 1) and, as society changes and opinions are altered, television shows adapt.
However, the television show Mad Menis unique because it does not show life today, but the life of
the 1960s. It shows what life was like for the women who lived during a time when the feminine
mystique controlled society.

Betty is a college graduate who worked as a model for a short time before marrying Don. Soon
after they married, Betty gave birth to their two children. The episode The Wheel shows that
Betty and Don were happy at first, but their current life is everything but content. Betty does not
know why she is unhappy though. All she knows is that she should be happy. The women of
this time were told their role was to seek fulfillment as wives and mothers (Friedan 15).
However, Betty Draper is miserable, bored, and lonely. In episode two of season one, Ladies
Room, Betty is shown losing control of her hands while driving. While Betty is unnerved and
scared, this ailment was not uncommon for housewives. Betty is told that losing control of her
hands is not a physical abnormality, but a psychological one. During this time, Freud and many
others had noticed this problem. Unfortunately, according to Dr. Stephanie Newman, a
psychoanalyst from New York, most of them believed this disorder was merely repressed sexual
impulses (Newman 94). While this theory was partly right, Betty s problem was an issue of
emotions not being expressed: it had nothing to do with sex and having more sex would not cure
her. Her problem was a conversion symptom, so named because the disorder arises when
unacceptable emotions are unconsciously turned into something physical (Newman 96). This was
not caused by suppressed sexual emotions; but from having to force down the need to be

Compare And Contrast Native American Civilizations
Prior to the Europeans arrival in 1492, there were Native American civilizations that populated
different parts of the land that was later called the Americas. These lands were Mesoamerica, South
America, and North America. Researchers believe that the civilizations located in those 3 parts of
the Americaswere highly complex. These groups came to be known as the Olmecs, the Aztecs, the
Mayans, the Incas, the Mogollon, Hohokam, and Anasazi.
Mesoamerica was a region that stretched from North Panama to Central Mexico and included the

They are also well known for creating the only known written language. Mesoamerica was not the
only region that was well known for having complex civilizations. The most highly and complex
society was located along the Andes mountains in South America. This society was called the Incas.
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Incas expanded their empire that stretched from
modern day Colombia to Chili. For transportation, they built stepped roads that were beneficial to
pedestrians. Not only was this transportation system beneficial to pedestrians but it was also helpful
to the Incan army and chasquis, Incan relay runners, as well. These roads allowed the Incan army to
move faster and it also allowed Incan relay runners to send messages faster over a long distance.
Unlike the Mesoamerican civilizations, the Incans did not have a writing system. Instead, they
communicated through a system of colored strings and knots called quipus. Although Mesoamerica
and South America had complex Native American civilizations, there were other civilizations that
were just as complex as the ones mentioned before. These civilizations include the Mogollon,
Hohokam, and Anasazi which were all located in North America. From 50 BCE to

Yet we never really believed that End would be in our time who could! And if anyone had ever

and Mirissa waited in sympathetic silences until he had regained his composure. (Clarke 149 150).

The Pros And Cons Of Pterosaurs
Neither bats nor birds, pterosaurs were considered reptiles. And although scientists have long
debated where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and

top theory as of now among scientists is that pterosaurs, crocodiles, and dinosaurs are closely

as archosaurs. The Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs,

point, opposing that their discovery doesn t necessarily prove that the young pterosaurs were born
flightless. Michael Habib, one of the authors and a paleontologist at the University of Southern
California, claimed that the wings are more robust compared to the hind limbs. Furthermore,
Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the
species. The other researchers suspect that some juvenile, eggs, and adult individuals were
washed away from the nesting site due to the storm in the lake, where later on they were
fossilized. Unwin further said that it is possible that a group of female pterosaurs may have laid
their eggs in the same area, which is the same thing to sea turtles that return to the same ocean or
beaches each year to lay

Spencer Rifle Company Research Paper
By 1860 American inventors like Samuel Colt, Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson, Oliver
Winchester, Benjamin Henry, and Christopher Spencer were on the brink of mass producing
magazine fed, lever action, repeating rifles that fired self contained metallic cartridges. Once the
Civil War began, two companies dominated the competition for lucrative government contracts the
New Haven Arms Company (Henry rifle) and the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company (Spencer
rifle). Officers in the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company were politically connected and quickly
secured contracts with both the Navy and Wardepartments by late 1861. Two years later the New
Haven Arms Company finally won its first government contract. Consequently, the Spencer rifle

George Orwell s Animal Farm And Ariel Dorfman s...
Both George Orwell s Animal Farm and Ariel Dorfman s Rebellion of the Magical Rabbits share
the idea that people s ignorance can contribute to their political and social oppression. These
stories are both different, but at the same time are completely the same. The stories both have a
different plot but have the same deeper meaning of ignorance leading to people s social and
political oppression. George Orwell used real life experiences of when political leaders took over
the Soviet Union and created a communist society to inspire his book while Ariel Dorfman used
real life experiences of when Chile was taken over by a harsh dictatorship and the people of Chile
were restricted from most of their freedoms. Both of these authors tie in the... Show more content on

Another relation that these two writers have is that they both quit or were forced out of their
government positions. Ariel Dorfman was in a government position under a socialist who was
overthrown by a dictatorship. This is unlike George Orwell, who served under the communist
idea, otherwise known as a dictatorship. Ariel Dorfman was born in Buenas Aires, Argentina in
1942 and is still alive today. Both of these authors also had similar writing styles by using
allegories of the dictatorships in their countries. These two authors have a lot in common and
have similar writing styles in their books, Animal Farm and The Rebellion Of The Magical
Rabbits. You will read about how George Orwell and Ariel Dorfman used allegories, ironies, and
real life experiences to express the lesson that people s ignorance can lead to their oppression.
Both Animal Farm and The Rebellion Of The Magical Rabbits have the idea that people s
ignorance lead to their oppression. Some evidence from Animal Farm that helps me support my
thesis is when the author states,ВґВґAs Clover looked down the hillside her eyes filled with tears.
If she could have spoken her thoughts; it would have been to say that this was not what they had
aimed at when they had set themselves years ago to work for the overthrow of the human race.

Love Upon First Sight By Cults
Farouk Shousha
Prof. Webb
ENG 101
08 October 2015
Love Upon First Sight The music video Abducted by Cults features a woman being abducted by a
man, and then the man driving down a very long and winding road while constantly looking out the
window the entire time. The whole time, the woman is tied and trapped in the trunk of the car.
Remembering parts of the past. At the end of the video, the guy parked the car near a cliff, gets
out the car, lets the woman out of the trunk, and allows himself to be tied up by her and
eventually locked in the trunk. Most of what has happened is in the past, and the video is
showing her looking back at the past. The director leaves her still bound by her memories with
only chalk to make marks. However, she is still alive. The end shows where the director currently
saw her lying alone, in contemplation, trying to remember and make sense of the cruel experience.
However, she is free and while unbinding herself will take her own effort, her future is now under
her own control. Cults s video Abducted shows us that love is winding like a road that can take you
to places that you do not want to go. The lyrics to this song focus upon a relationship where the
woman is completely infatuated with the man upon first sight. She realizes that this man is the
best man she has ever been in a relationship with I knew right then no one was above him . she s
saying that she knew this guy had her in his grips instantly. She knows that it is bad for

Nazi Book Burning Essay
Decades ago, Nazi Germany felt there was a need to burn books because it didn t match their
own core ideologies: racism, materialism This idea can also be parallel to the Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria s (ISIS) destruction of the historical sites Khorsabad, Jonah s Tomb, Nimrud and
Mosul. During both acts, books and museums were destroyed and along with it, housed years of
work, emotions, and thoughts. Empires and people come and go but their ideas are forever
preserved through books and historic artefacts, which all represent the ideas and cultures of the
past. Therefore, when you raze a historical site, you are doing more than burning pages or debasing
infrastructure you burn ideas, erase the past and destroy the very foundation that our future can be
built upon. The act of book burning during the Nazi regime is comparable to the ISIS s destruction
of Nimrud because the ideologies of both groups suffocate liberalism, leading to the destruction of
artifacts, and thus the removal of free speech and expression within their... Show more content on

Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson
Character Identification In the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, out of the
four main characters, I most resemble the little person Haw. Right away, it was obvious I was
not like the mice. I am a thinker. Sniff and Scurry reacted far too immediately for me. When the
change happened, they were already out in the maze seeing what they could find. Change tends
to affect me more heavily than it did the mice. I tend to use a combination of brainpower and
emotion when I am looking for my Cheese just like Hem and Haw. What makes me more similar
to Hem is the reaction to the change. When the Cheese goes missing, Hem experiences an
intense emotional reaction. He yells and screams because he feels entitled to his Cheese. He
had been enjoying the Cheese for so long that he could not imagine a situation where the Cheese
was no longer there for him. Haw s reaction is much more subtle. He was sad. The Cheese being
at Cheese Station C was a measure of comfort for him, and without it he was left in shock. This
is precisely how I react. I tend to count on all the constant people and situations in my life. If my
family, girlfriend, car, apartment, or air conditioning were ever to withdraw their presence it would
leave me in shock. Just like with Haw, it is not about me having the most powerful of any of the
things listed above, but more about my personal comfort with the current situation. After they find
Cheese Station C empty several times, Hem and Haw disagree again over

The Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument
A historical context of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument: United States
President, Barack Obama, declared the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument the
largest oceanic reserve system in the world through an expansion in protected territory by a
presidential proclamation on September 25th, 2014. The reserve system originally was formed on
January 6th, 2009 by a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush. The ocean ecosystems
now under protection are to the south and west of Hawaii in waters surrounding small islands and
reef systems under the United Statesjurisdiction (See Figure 1). These areas include, Kingman
Reef, Palmyra Atoll, Howland Island, Baker Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, and Wake
Island. The total area now protected through this reserve system is 782,000 square miles
(2,030,000 km2) (Citation). In these newly protected regions it is now prohibited to fish, hunt,
or mine for resources due to these proclamations. After this expansion, the reserve system will
continue to serve as an invaluable area to monitor the effects of climate change and ocean
acidification especially on reef and deep water systems. The reserve will also serve as a valuable
repository for plant, animal, and microbial life for humans to use for discovery and to aid in
restocking depleted resources elsewhere. Many new species and forms of life still await discovery
in these protected waters that will yield advances in technology and our

The message next takes on a more subtle tone of character and costuming with the entrance of
the banker: a man in a clean suit, with a shiny car, and a big cigar, a perfect juxtaposition of the
dirty, tattered farmers, a man very well off forcing those struggling and fighting in their day to
day lives off the land which they used to create a meager living. Having been forced off their
land and with nowhere else to turn, Tom Joad, his family, and John Casey head to California
with dreams of a better life, only to have these dreams smashed upon the rocks of corporate
greed. The Joad family arrives to find the worker camps destitute and hungry, with no food even
for the children of the camp, and with the works not allowed in town. It seems as though no area
of California will present better options, for when the Joad family arrives at the first farm with
work available there is a throng of workers on strike outside the farm because the wealthy ranch
owners promised a wage of five cents a box, but with the overabundance of workers, the owners
only offer two and a half cents per box: more underhanded industry on the part of big business. The

The Novel Legend, There Are A Wide Variety Of Characters...
In Marie Lu s dystopian book Legend, there are a wide variety of characters with varying and
backgrounds. Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and outlaw Daniel (nicknamed
Day), many side characters are also introduced and developed throughout the course of the book.
All of these characters possess interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while
most of the characters names fit them, some do not.
To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same name, which in
turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the exact meaning of Juno is not fully
known, but it may be related to an Indo European root that translates to youth . Additionally, Juno
was the queen of the heavens in Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and
marriage, as well as the goddess of finance. June s name does a good job reflecting her personality,
and matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at the point
in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the protectress quality
functions as the central plot point in the book. Although June does not protect specifically women
or marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what is right, and the shift in what she perceives as
right drives the main plot between her and Day, as well as their connections to the Republic. At the
beginning of the book, June is completely loyal to the Republic. When she

they watch patients suffer, and sometimes they even care for patients who are terminally ill and
dying. The modern world of health care and tightening budgets are resulting in additional work

Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment
What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered
in multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the
evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is
homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproductionboth have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is
the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an
offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease
the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to
form and offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a maleand female together to produce. To
produce a new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. The genetic material would be mixed
when the organism is sexual and not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution is the concept that one organism can grow into an adult and develop skills in their
environment. Adaptation is a feature that is common in a population. Adaptation can take in
different forms. Behavior of predators or temperatures that functions best. The form of an organism
has to adapt to a new lifestyle changing the way the may have been fated to evolve into. Both
adaptation and evolution have in common our an organism that grows mentally and physically or
the environment the species is in.
Homeostasis means in greek same and steady. Homeostasis a habit to want be stable equilibrium
of an organism. Homeostasis is needed for survival of all living organisms. For example humans

to stay stable. Sometimes the body is not stable for instance when the body runs a fever or gets the

The Role Of Fear In Markandaya s Nectar In A Sieve
In the story Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya, both hope and fear are present forces in the
story that affect the outcome of the situations they go through. Fear helps the family overcome
famine, monsoons, and death as time goes on. As situations get harder, the force of hope becomes
no more. Although hope is present in the story, fearis the more powerful force that keeps Rukmani
and her family alive throughout the story. Fear is a force that can make or break people. The
fear could either motivate you to higher heights or completely destroy you as a person. In this
case fear helped Rukmani and her family countless times. An example of this is when Rukmani
and Nathan are talking about the effects that the monsoons will have on them. It is a bad season ,
Nathan said somberly. The rains have destroyed much of our work, there will be little eating done

Themes Of Illusion And Reality By Bret Easton Ellis s ...
The use of counter culture and ideology can provide unique perspectives on the issues faced by
everyone, even those who do not acknowledge it. Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh portrays a drug
addict who rejects any conventions of normalcy in the pursuit of an alternate reality. American
Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis does the same through the depiction of a rich and greedy Wall Street
tycoon. This essay will closely analyze the themes of illusion and reality in Trainspotting and
American Psycho. The relationship between the fantasy world and the real world in these texts are
closely linked and aid the narrative in a criticism of social and structural issues. The texts are often
criticized as glorifying drug use and violence however through analyzing the effect of narrative,
drug use and culture on the characters reality and illusions will argue that the elements of drug use
and violence help in the deconstruction of greed and popular culture in the texts.
Trainspotting begins with Renton s Choose Life monologue in which he argues that he can either
have a conventional life or he can try to do something out of the norm. Coincidentally drug culture
is able to act as oppositional to conventions and normality and allows him to follow through with his
monologues assertion. Whether he uses drugs to escape conventional life or escapes conventional
life through drug use the reality that his addiction has on his life is complete and utterly
encompassing.

Confusion in War
The war in Vietnam is without a doubt an outlier in comparison to every other U.S. war,
specifically as the only war that the U.S. has ever lost. Losing the war may have been a direct
result of a draft that placed young men in Vietnam, many of whom had absolutely no personal
goals other than survival. This sets the scene for Going After Cacciato and its main character Paul
Berlin. The book is told in the form of three stories. Sixteen chapters are a narrative of the real war,
focusing on the deaths of the men in Berlin s squadron, another ten chapters depict a single full
night when Berlin decides to take the whole watch rather than wake up one of his companions, and

The reality of the elaborate story Paul Berlin writes in his mind, is that he is deserting. First Berlin
imagines him and his squad physically leaving Vietnam. Berlin envisions them walking to Laos,
through Mandalay, Delhi, and Tehran, all the way to France. They meet a vast array of people
from all over the world. It becomes clear that Berlin does not just dream about leaving, to him the
story is a very active idea (Farrell 56). Yet despite his constant attempts to rationalize this decision
throughout the Cacciato narrative, Berlin is aware that the world considers what he is doing to be
wrong. Berlin s consciousness of the reality of his desertion is eventually manifested in the
execution that he and his comrades nearly endure in Tehran. The war has generated such confusion
in Berlin that he cannot even imagine a plausible, orderly exit from war (Farrell 61). Even in his
imagination, Berlin is confused as to whether he is wrong to desert the war.
More importantly, by imagining a fantastic escape of Vietnam in pursuit of Cacciato, Berlin can
actually temporarily elude the war. Pretending, Berlin explains was his best trick to forget the
war (O Brien). He is totally unable to cope with the realities of Vietnam and as a result hides
behind his imagination hoping to one day wake up at the end of his tour (Freeman 190). Berlin

The purpose of this essay is to examine, the notion of music being a part of a deaf individual s life
may seem contradictory, but there is evidence that music is and has been a part of many deaf
people s lives. Music is and has been a part of the Deaf culture, including, but not limited to, Deaf
musicians, utilising music to teach speech. The primary purpose of this thesis was to explore the
relation between Deaf culture and music and examine the role of music in the deaf culture and to
relate the findings to current practices in music education programs for hearing impaired students
historically and presently. We also look at the introduction of sign language interpreters in live
vocal music performances as well pre recorded shows and music videos and also how it is being
adopted in the music industry. Secondary purposes of the study were to accumulate data of ways in
which the music industry has provided for the Deaf Communities by organising concerts and raves

Descriptive Essay On Basketball
Entering the gym resonates an immediate feeling of dedication. Double glass doors open,
making an odd creak that only those two doors are able to make. The sound of these doors
opening brings a chill down the spine. Once the gym is entered, there is a large brown trashcan
that hides in the corner, like a child that has done something wrong and is hiding from his or her
parent. Its orange bag loves to poke out past the can itself like a baby kangaroos head from its
mothers pouch. Two black ballholding racks lean against the wall. Each rack has three rows that
hold five basketballs per row. The metallic feeling to these racks are very cold and intense to the
touch. Life is a basketball, constantly bouncing up and down. All of the great basketball players
used one common tool to keep life more on the upside of the metaphor, a basketball. Michael
Jordan. LeBron James. Tim Duncan. Like they all used, the basketballs on this rack are exactly
identical. Deep Tangerine Men s basketballs, that have a light yellowish tint to them. Majestic
stripes swirl around the balls as like the markings on a zebra. The bar codes on the basketballs
are all whited out so that people cannot take and resell the balls. Jimmy Floyd , is written in large
black letters across the front of the balls. This is written to protect the basketballs like a mother
duck protects her ducklings. Unlike most gyms, the Floyd has an unusual blue plastic floor.
Hardwood is the normal choice for basketball gyms.

Organ Shortage
Within the past few years, the demand for organs has increased at an alarming rate. This is due
mostly to the fact that diseases and illnesses are becoming more prevalent and are brought on
due to a significant change in American lifestyles. Failing organs can be caused by certain ways of
living such as being a smoker or becoming obese. Many people are in need of a vital organor know
someone who needs an organ; these people are greatly impacted by a decision involving organ
donation. Vital organs, such as the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and liver are involved, which
means these people are in life and death situations. While organ transplants have created a way to

Different countries have different systems to organize organ donation. These systems are
known as either opt out or opt in . The United States is currently under an opt in system which
basically means that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless
is it made clear in their lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone
wishes to become an organ donor after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime.
It is proposed that the solution to the organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt
out system. This system makes more sense because if a person is so passionate about not being
a donor, they will voice that while they are living. Our current system does not encourage people
to actually take the time to make a decision about being an organ donor or not. Instead, the
system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about decisions that could in the end
give someone else a shot at living their life. An article written in the European Journal of Health
Law talks about the bill of 2009 that allows presumed consent for organ donation in European
countries. Lisa Cherkassky, Lecturer in Law, includes specifics details written in the bill such
as, if a person during their lifetime has not registered to an objection to his body that after death,
it will be presumed that he [has] consented to such a donation. In the US, we currently must
register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate).
Cherkassky also includes how the bill seeks to protect people as well when it comes to death, she
says unless two registered medical practitioners have satisfied themselves that the person is dead,
no organs will be allowed to be removed. Adopting a bill with a policy of protection

Carson after he retired. The format of the show remained largely unchanged, consisting primarily
of an opening humorous monologue, followed by several celebrity interviews, comedy sketches
and musical numbers. Though I don t feel Leno was as comical as Carson and his interview skill
were lacking, he had an aura that drew people in. This likability is what causes him to receive a
second tenure from 2010 to 2014, after O Brien left the network due to scheduling

Elon University Experience
College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a
thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very
beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything
I was looking for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community,
at least that s what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017

University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships... Show more content on

In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of
which were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I

staff, and was informed of all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that
the only way I would go to Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I
didn t receive the scholarship, I was still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at
Wofford that I began to have doubts about attending there. A few days before the enrollment
deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I
believed I was going to for the past several months or the school I never took a glance at. After
evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be the place for me. I found that Campbell
had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and live in a Christian community. I ve
already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many campus ministry groups and
worships to attend, something that I could not

  • 2. Air Force Core Values In the early 1990 s the Chief of staff, Merrill A. McPeak, originally posted the six core values of the United States Air Force which consisted of integrity, tenacity, courage, patriotism, competence, and service. It wasn t until a few years later that those six core values were merged into three. The three core values; integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do were officially embraced by the United StatesAir Force in January of 1995 in order to define the type of character expected from those within the branch of service (Lt Col Tower, P., Lt Col Dunford, D, n.d.). Today these core values are the three basic fundamentals of life in the family known as the United States Air Force. Every person in the United States... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Air Force defines integrity as always doing what is right even when no one is looking (United States Air Force core values, 1997). Integrity itself is built off of many different key traits; honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, responsibility and having respect not only for others but yourself as well. Those are just some of the key traits. I will give prime examples of each trait mentioned above from my own personal life to help you better understand integrity. The first trait I would like to review with you is honesty. There are many different aspects of honestly. It could be as simple as telling someone how you really feel or admitting to a mistake you may have made in your life. I came around the corner so fast that I crashed my bicycle into a brand new car that just happened to be parked on the side of the road. As you can imagine, I flew over my handle bars and landed on the car. The accident left minor damage to vehicle, but no one was around. I could have easily rode off and pretended it never happened, though that would not have been the honest nor the right thing to do. I spoke with the owner of the car and made arrangements to pay him back for the damage. Honesty is a key trait you must have in the Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Interval Training Versus Aerobic Exercise Analysis Interval training and continuous aerobic exercise are two of the most common cardio exercises practiced by athletes today. However, one is slightly better than the other when looking at performance increases. An easy way to measure performance increases is to examine the VO2 max of an individual before and after a training period. VO2 maxis the measure of how much oxygen a body can take in from the air. It is a great reflection of physical fitnessbecause it reflects how efficiently a person can use oxygen which is needed for most exercises, especially cardio. Interval training is when a person switches between two activities that vary in intensity or effort. Continuous aerobic exerciseis when a person performs an activity at the same intensity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anaerobic energy is energy that is produced in the absence of oxygen. On the other hand, aerobic energy is energy that is produced in the presence of oxygen. The difference in energy pathway may explain the difference in VO2 increases between interval training and continuous aerobic exercise. Many people struggle to incorporate cardio into their workout routine because they think they must run endless miles to see results. This excuse is invalid because interval training can provide just as many health benefits, if not more, than continuous aerobic exercise. Even though interval training has been shown to improve performance in many people, a blend of interval training and continuous aerobic exercise that is designed for an individual s goals is the best approach to implement cardio. Interval training results in greater performance increases and more motivation to exercise than continuous aerobic training in many types of people, including well trained athletes, diabetics, children, and people with Down syndrome. However, the most important thing is for people to incorporate cardio into their exercise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The subjects that engage Bradbury s pen are many: magic, horror, and monsters; rockets, robots, time and space travel; growing up in the Midwest town in the 1920 s, and growing old in an abandoned Earth colony on another planet. Despite their themes, his stories contain a sense of wonder, often a sense of joy, and a lyrical and rhythimic touch that sets his work apart. Lilly Briscoe, a strong willed and rather independent painter, acts throughout the novel as the antitheses of Mrs. Ramsay. Where Mrs. Ramsay acts placid and cordial, and conforms to the demands society projects, Lilly acts upon her own desires and will, primarily in regards to the realms of painting and marriage. As the story progresses the reader finds that painting lies at the core of Lillie s self, and she uses it as the means to maintain her inner balance. In the end, Lily accomplishes the balance of order and chaos, by choosing her own desires over the pressures ensued by society, and Mrs. Ramsay fails, adhering to the standards and demands placed on her, and ultimately dying after living a life of demanding servitude. The impact on teachers, staff, pupils and parents will be critically analysed and suggestions for improvements made. The private day nursery is situated on the outskirts of a Staffordshire market town, surrounded by countryside. This 77 place day nursery caters for 117 children of 0 to 8 years of age, including those with special educational needs, disabilities and those who have English as an additional language. There are 25 nursery practitioners within the setting with qualifications ranging from level two to level five and with one Qualified Teacher Status. Thirteen members of staff are part time, doing various hours throughout the week. The Nursery was re registered in 2003 and is managed by a partnership (Ofsted, 2014). The Rationale for the new planning within the private day nursery is that it enables staff to carry out observations throughout four months rather than the previous three. This allocates more time for children to focus on an area of learning. Jarvis et al (2008) positions that the EYFS Medium term plans (Appendix 1) are based on a topic. The Gilded And Progressive Eras Kailyn McComb History 1151 Professor Rob Denning Date Submitted Reforming America The gilded and progressive eras in America were times of expansion, urbanization, and what seemed like a golden pathway to an industrialized future. In the 1850s, railroads were being built all across America, and with that came the rise of the steel and oil industries, as well as dramatic population increases in the newly urbanized cities. Such a change in society created a gap between social classes causes incredible amounts of poverty for many, and incredible wealth for few. Three main struggles during this crucial time in America were political corruption, the rapid expansion of urban cities, and the unfair, and unsafe working conditions. Through these difficult times, many different types of reform were supported, but few were actually effective. One of the largest problems facing Americans during the gilded age and progressive era was political corruption. The late 1800s and early 1900s were filled with political machines such as George Plunkitt and James Gillespie Blaine. Plunkitt was known as the leader of Tammany Hall, an Irish based organization that was heavy in politics during the 19th century. Amazon is a big company and their operational issues should be considered a weakness. The reason why they could possibly have an operational issue can either be that they accidently or purposely overlooked the issue, or assumed that they will be fine and the planwould be successful. Either way, this issue could have been stopped. To big companies like Amazon, receiving a filing complaint should be common but it is not something they should get used to or else it can result in a decrease in reputation, revenue decrease, or even both. But there are some alternative solutions that can be considered. Operational Issues Alternative One One solution that Amazon can use would be to take advantage of the legal team and also have them thoroughly go through and identifying potential danger problems including patents that might cause a potential infringement. For the issue of patents as an example, doing a careful infringement review during the product concept stage can help the company be assured that they would not have to worry about carrying a high risk of liability. The advantage of this alternative is that the planneror the team of planners is not the only one reviewing the paper. The whole time, the woman is tied and trapped in the trunk of the car. Remembering parts of the past. At the end of the video, the guy parked the car near a cliff, gets out the car, lets the woman out of the trunk, and allows himself to be tied up by her and eventually locked in the trunk. • 27. Nazi Book Burning Essay Decades ago, Nazi Germany felt there was a need to burn books because it didn t match their own core ideologies: racism, materialism This idea can also be parallel to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria s (ISIS) destruction of the historical sites Khorsabad, Jonah s Tomb, Nimrud and Mosul. During both acts, books and museums were destroyed and along with it, housed years of work, emotions, and thoughts. Empires and people come and go but their ideas are forever preserved through books and historic artefacts, which all represent the ideas and cultures of the past. Therefore, when you raze a historical site, you are doing more than burning pages or debasing infrastructure you burn ideas, erase the past and destroy the very foundation that our future can be built upon. The act of book burning during the Nazi regime is comparable to the ISIS s destruction of Nimrud because the ideologies of both groups suffocate liberalism, leading to the destruction of artifacts, and thus the removal of free speech and expression within their... • 29. Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson Character Identification In the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, out of the four main characters, I most resemble the little person Haw. Right away, it was obvious I was not like the mice. I am a thinker. Sniff and Scurry reacted far too immediately for me. When the change happened, they were already out in the maze seeing what they could find. Change tends to affect me more heavily than it did the mice. I tend to use a combination of brainpower and emotion when I am looking for my Cheese just like Hem and Haw. What makes me more similar to Hem is the reaction to the change. When the Cheese goes missing, Hem experiences an intense emotional reaction. He yells and screams because he feels entitled to his Cheese. He had been enjoying the Cheese for so long that he could not imagine a situation where the Cheese was no longer there for him. Haw s reaction is much more subtle. He was sad. The Cheese being at Cheese Station C was a measure of comfort for him, and without it he was left in shock. This is precisely how I react. I tend to count on all the constant people and situations in my life. If my family, girlfriend, car, apartment, or air conditioning were ever to withdraw their presence it would leave me in shock. Just like with Haw, it is not about me having the most powerful of any of the things listed above, but more about my personal comfort with the current situation. The Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument A historical context of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument: United States President, Barack Obama, declared the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument the largest oceanic reserve system in the world through an expansion in protected territory by a presidential proclamation on September 25th, 2014. The reserve system originally was formed on January 6th, 2009 by a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush. The ocean ecosystems now under protection are to the south and west of Hawaii in waters surrounding small islands and reef systems under the United Statesjurisdiction (See Figure 1). These areas include, Kingman Reef, Palmyra Atoll, Howland Island, Baker Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, and Wake Island. The total area now protected through this reserve system is 782,000 square miles (2,030,000 km2) (Citation). In these newly protected regions it is now prohibited to fish, hunt, or mine for resources due to these proclamations. After this expansion, the reserve system will continue to serve as an invaluable area to monitor the effects of climate change and ocean acidification especially on reef and deep water systems. The reserve will also serve as a valuable repository for plant, animal, and microbial life for humans to use for discovery and to aid in restocking depleted resources elsewhere. Having been forced off their land and with nowhere else to turn, Tom Joad, his family, and John Casey head to California with dreams of a better life, only to have these dreams smashed upon the rocks of corporate greed. The Joad family arrives to find the worker camps destitute and hungry, with no food even for the children of the camp, and with the works not allowed in town. It seems as though no area of California will present better options, for when the Joad family arrives at the first farm with work available there is a throng of workers on strike outside the farm because the wealthy ranch owners promised a wage of five cents a box, but with the overabundance of workers, the owners only offer two and a half cents per box: more underhanded industry on the part of big business. • 33. The Novel Legend, There Are A Wide Variety Of Characters... In Marie Lu s dystopian book Legend, there are a wide variety of characters with varying and backgrounds. Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and outlaw Daniel (nicknamed Day), many side characters are also introduced and developed throughout the course of the book. All of these characters possess interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while most of the characters names fit them, some do not. To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same name, which in turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the exact meaning of Juno is not fully known, but it may be related to an Indo European root that translates to youth . Additionally, Juno was the queen of the heavens in Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and marriage, as well as the goddess of finance. June s name does a good job reflecting her personality, and matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at the point in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the protectress quality functions as the central plot point in the book. Although June does not protect specifically women or marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what is right, and the shift in what she perceives as right drives the main plot between her and Day, as well as their connections to the Republic. At the beginning of the book, June is completely loyal to the Republic. When she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sexual versus asexual reproductionboth have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. The Role Of Fear In Markandaya s Nectar In A Sieve In the story Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya, both hope and fear are present forces in the story that affect the outcome of the situations they go through. Fear helps the family overcome famine, monsoons, and death as time goes on. As situations get harder, the force of hope becomes no more. Although hope is present in the story, fearis the more powerful force that keeps Rukmani and her family alive throughout the story. Fear is a force that can make or break people. The fear could either motivate you to higher heights or completely destroy you as a person. In this case fear helped Rukmani and her family countless times. An example of this is when Rukmani and Nathan are talking about the effects that the monsoons will have on them. It is a bad season , Nathan said somberly. The use of counter culture and ideology can provide unique perspectives on the issues faced by everyone, even those who do not acknowledge it. Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh portrays a drug addict who rejects any conventions of normalcy in the pursuit of an alternate reality. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis does the same through the depiction of a rich and greedy Wall Street tycoon. This essay will closely analyze the themes of illusion and reality in Trainspotting and American Psycho. The relationship between the fantasy world and the real world in these texts are closely linked and aid the narrative in a criticism of social and structural issues. The texts are often criticized as glorifying drug use and violence however through analyzing the effect of narrative, drug use and culture on the characters reality and illusions will argue that the elements of drug use and violence help in the deconstruction of greed and popular culture in the texts. Trainspotting begins with Renton s Choose Life monologue in which he argues that he can either have a conventional life or he can try to do something out of the norm. Coincidentally drug culture is able to act as oppositional to conventions and normality and allows him to follow through with his monologues assertion. Losing the war may have been a direct result of a draft that placed young men in Vietnam, many of whom had absolutely no personal goals other than survival. This sets the scene for Going After Cacciato and its main character Paul Berlin. The book is told in the form of three stories. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reality of the elaborate story Paul Berlin writes in his mind, is that he is deserting. First Berlin imagines him and his squad physically leaving Vietnam. Berlin envisions them walking to Laos, through Mandalay, Delhi, and Tehran, all the way to France. They meet a vast array of people from all over the world. It becomes clear that Berlin does not just dream about leaving, to him the story is a very active idea (Farrell 56). Yet despite his constant attempts to rationalize this decision throughout the Cacciato narrative, Berlin is aware that the world considers what he is doing to be wrong. Berlin s consciousness of the reality of his desertion is eventually manifested in the execution that he and his comrades nearly endure in Tehran. The war has generated such confusion in Berlin that he cannot even imagine a plausible, orderly exit from war (Farrell 61). Even in his imagination, Berlin is confused as to whether he is wrong to desert the war. More importantly, by imagining a fantastic escape of Vietnam in pursuit of Cacciato, Berlin can actually temporarily elude the war. Pretending, Berlin explains was his best trick to forget the war (O Brien). The United States is currently under an opt in system which basically means that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless is it made clear in their lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone wishes to become an organ donor after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime. It is proposed that the solution to the organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt out system. This system makes more sense because if a person is so passionate about not being a donor, they will voice that while they are living. Our current system does not encourage people to actually take the time to make a decision about being an organ donor or not. Instead, the system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about decisions that could in the end give someone else a shot at living their life. In the US, we currently must register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate).
