Robin Williams Tragic Hero
Tragic heroes can be described as people who had royal beginnings, but had a downfall because of a
flaw, or multiple flaws. Due to this downfall, the tragic hero can impact the lives of many people.
Robin williams can be defined as a tragic hero. He was an actor beloved by all from his many
comedic acting roles, such as those in Mrs.Doubtfire and Hook. He seemed to be the best example
of a perfect person, but became a tragic hero after all of his hardships and addictions. Robin
Williamswas a great actor and he helped wherever he could, but suffered with his flaws of
substance dependence and depression, leading to his untimely death. However, his influence will
live on forever.

He was last seen alive at 10:30 P.M. by his wife who was going to bed. At 11:45 A.M. his
personal assistant became concerned after he didn t answer the door (SFGate). His suicide was
what he thought of as a way to escape the treacherous world he was living with, but his death had
a great impact on others as well. His family and friends were very concerned for him and were
devastated when they lost him. I lost my father and best friend and the world got a little greyer. I
will carry his heart with me everyday. I would like those who loved him to remember him by
being as gentle, kind, and generous as he would be (SFGate, Zak Williams). Even with the
mistakes and wrongs he made, many people will remember him as the bright, happy person he
was on the screen. His death didn t create his impact, but instead increased the greatness of the
impacts he made when he was alive. The happy, humorous, loving person has passed through to his
children and to his adoring fans. Robin Williams made mistakes, but his goodness towards others

Online Advertising And The Internet
The internet has made everything simple especially in business. The world has changed to
become a global village where all people can access. They do that to check on what is new in the
market or the current trends. Marketers and advertisers have seen an opportunity in the fact that
people are always on the internet. They market their products on the internet by posting them on
different websites for people to be able to see them. That type of advertisingthat takes place on the
internet is referred to as online marketing or online advertising or internet advertising. It included
email marketing, social media marketing, display advertising, search engine marketing (SEM),
and mobile advertising. This type of marketing involves a publisher who posts the
advertisement, with the permission of the owner of the website to post an advert for the
viewers of the website to see. It occurs at a certain fee. Marketers have mastered the most
commonly used websites, like the social media websites where they post their advertisement for
the millions of people in social media to see them. They usually appear in the screen making it
inevitable for a person to view it (Webb, 2007). Online advertisements have been made possible
with the help of online advertising agencies. These are agencies that have specialized in online
marketing. They know the product to place on a certain website because not all advertisements will
go in every website. Each website will have advertisements that are

Cross Country Running Comparison
Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms of doing it. Comparisons a lot of
people make is that cross country and track are the same thing, but those two sports are entirely
different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to
change the workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner
enjoys long distance runningthen they also should go out for track since it has long distance
events. Even though it has those events it doesn t change the fact the two are very different.
Cross country mostly deals with long distance running, but its running on a grass and on hills.
The works one would have to do to prepare for cross country meets would be transitions of 400
mile repeats, long runs that could be around five to ten miles on grass, gravel, or muddy, and
dreaded hill workouts. These types of workouts work out the legs and core of a person to be
ready for any rugged terrain that they would run on. Cross country also deals with the fact one
must compete with a lot of more people. A normal cross country race would consist of seventy to
over hundred runners, and with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Focusing on the track portion of the sport, it seems like cross country but there are many aspects
of it that s it different. The workouts dealing with track focus more on the weight lifting then the
actual stretching. Track deals with more sprinting since most the events in track go only for a short
distance that call for sprinting. Since these are only short distances and that there are so many
events that athletes can do the numbers for competitors aren t as huge. With each event having a
set number of competitors, track is not as a team oriented sport. To go farther it relies mostly on
the person doing the event, with only having the exception of relay races with three other

Journal Article Analysis Essay example
Journal Article Analysis tgkoontz University of Phoenix
Abstract
A Week 3 assignment in the class, PHL/717 Constructing Meaning, required a philosophical
analysis of an article in the Journal of Psychology. The article investigated how the connection
between knowledge and learning influenced individuals to think about controversial everyday
issues. The analysis included identifying philosophical assumptions, explaining practical
significance and applicability, and relating assumptions and methodology to class readings.

The scientific community has debated the methodology of the attainment of knowledge since
Aristotle. Social science, such as the study analyzed here, wants to develop a more engaged
relationship between knowledge and practice (Delanty Strydom, 2003). Conceiving their study on
previous research done about the nature of knowledge and the nature of learning that influences
thinking, Schommer Aikins and Hutter (2002) introduced an additional element of contemporary
controversial issues encountered in everyday life. Their research looked to populations outside of
academia to support their hypotheses. Generally, they were able to prove a relationship exists
between individual beliefs about knowledge and learning and the ability to demonstrate higher
order thinking. Education and critical thinking influence these beliefs (p. 16). The nature of
knowledge and learning beliefs influence thinking in everyday life.
Methodology
Kuhn (1996) describes a paradigm as the accepted norm of a science. The standards, rules, and
scientific tradition one follows in a particular area of scientific study comprise the paradigm.
Research, such as the one described here, is a cumulative enterprise, eminently successful in its
aim, the steady extension of the scope and precision of scientific knowledge (p. 52). The study

William Deresiewicz s Essay The End Of Solitude
In his 2009 essay, The End of Solitude, writer William Deresiewicz offers his insight and opinion
on what effect technology has on society. He specifically addresses the impact of text messaging
and social networking. Deresiewicz argues heavily that because of their prolific use, cellphones and
the connectedness they offer have eliminated not only the ability to, but the desire to disconnect
and seek solitude. That is, people cannot and do not want to be without having access.
In order to establish an understanding, Deresiewicz describes what solitude meant to people
throughout the ages. He explains that while man is social in nature, solitude is valued highly, or so
it used to be. Technology is taking away privacy, concentration and the

Alzheimer disease touches me very deeply because my great grandmother died from it and me and
my mom helped a lot with her care and my grandmother is in the early stages of it too. It is more
common in people whose mother had it than if it the father had it which is the case from my great

events and later they demonstrate symptoms that include impaired judgment, disorientation,
confusion, behavior changes, and trouble speaking, swallowing and walking (Tabloski, 214, p.619).

Essay On White Privilege
The central argument expressed by Marcus is that white privilege is not a result of a political
agenda as was previously stated by Tim Wise, but rather a psychological one. He goes on to say
that because the issue is not based on policy, the government cannot legislate it. He explained that,
almost all scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on raceis bunk
also adding that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as
the absurd equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory
over bigotry be won (Marcus). I agree with the author that white privilege is spread by individuals
and not based on policy. However, I disagree that white privilege... Show more content on

The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence.
According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy
McIntosh) can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious.
White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports,
code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people
sees the benefits of white privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but
not to the regular working class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon
every white person regardless of whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say
that all white people are born with silver spoons in their mouths or that they get everything
handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is that white people enjoy certain privileges
that minorities should but do not. For example, a white person does not have to worry about
getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and be asked to prove ownership
because of the color of their skin. They do not worry about being followed by security while they
shop for fear they might steal something. They do not have to deal companies refusing to hire them
or housing discrimination. There s a saying that one can not see the picture if he or she is in the

Defining Change Essay
Defining Change
Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to
another, the result of alteration or modification, to lay aside, abandon, or leave for another,
become different in essence; to lose one s or its original nature, to make different; cause a
transformation, or to make or become different in some particular way, without permanently losing
one s or its former characteristics or essence. There are many different views as to the complexity
of change. Some may believe change is an illusion and nothing ever really changes. However, the
majority, such as the post structuralism theorists, believe that change is inevitable. Change can be

Also, our political world would not be the same. How would we advance in our associations with
other countries, if not for the effects of change? Our government, our laws, our beliefs would not
have changed from those of our early ancestors. Hence, it is visible that without change our society
would be stuck in a rut with no way to advance and improve.
Roland Barthes was interested in the way that signifiers words which are derived of meaning
unless associated with an image or object were related to each other (intertextuality) and the way
they reflect the context and culture from which they came. He believed that no text can stand alone
as an isolated work. Rather they echo and reflect each other. Thus, he said, we should never do
author centered studies and wrote of the Death of the Author . Rather, he stated that we should look
at a text in its relation to other texts. Barthes ideas led to Post structuralism.
Structuralists believed that meaning in literature could be determined by studying the language
structures the signs or signifiers which represented ideas within a particular culture e.g. white as a
sign or symbol of purity or innocence. Post Structuralists, however, argued that meaning can never
be fully understood because the cultural ideas represented by those signs are themselves

Era Of Enlightenment Research Paper
The Era of Enlightenment took place in the early 1800 s and occurred predominantly in Europe.
During this era, two philosophers with differing views were in the forefront of the intellectual and
philosophical movements of the time. Philosophers John Locke and Renee Descartes both
presented with philosophical views that both challenged and changed conceptual views of human
understanding. Both philosophers used concepts that society valued and theorized those concepts
into sophisticated perspectives. John Locke as a philosopher presented his theory of Empiricism,
and through this theory was able to appeal society s middle to lower class in enticing the concept of
intelligence and knowledge achievable through the empirical method of investigation.

The Rise Of The Papacy Essay
The Rise of the Papacy There many Roman Catholics worldwide, who looks up to the Pope s
authority. The great question is, what is the foundation of the Papacy? The rise of the papacy came
at a very important time in history, after the fall of Rome. In 380 CE, Emperor Theodosius I, made
Nicene Christianity the state church of the Roman Empire. After this establishment, and the church
was the top religion in Rome, order was a must. The head of the church normally known as the
bishop, now known as the pope. What does pope mean? The word pope simply means father , and
in early times was used to refer to any important and respected Bishop. The Bishop of Rome was
looked upon as the chief judge similar to the Supreme Court. This position was suited to keep
order in the church. The first rise of the Papacy is undoubtedly to be sought for in the corruption
of human nature. Catholics believes that the papacy began with one of Jesus disciple, Peter.
They hang this concept on one verse of scripture in the Bible. The Bible declares, I also say to
you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church: and the gates of Hades will
not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on
earth shall have been bound in heaven, and what every you loose on earth shall have been loosed in
heaven. Since, Christ have put this charge on Peter many believe the papacy started with him.

One scenario where this could fall into play would be: An attorney is in a rush to submit a
preparation form and delegates the paralegal to sign the form. If the paralegal does so, they will be
committing the unauthorized practice of law because they are not permitted to sign legal forms and
furthermore, if signing the supervising attorney s name, they are committing fraud.
In some states UPL is not only criminalized in itself, but another charge of falsely claiming to be
a lawyer even thought this is not how the paralegal intended the situation to turn out. In the
innocence of trying to help out a friend by sharing their legal know how, they in turn can be
persecuted, lose their jobs or even their careers. Any person of the public can put in their opinion
about a legal situation, or tell a person what they think they should do and it would not be
considered unauthorized practice of law. However, when a person is a paralegal, any spoken or
written opinion about what a person should do in a legal situation can be considered UPL.
Whether it is a friend, family member, or just someone a person knows, the situation stays the
same. It is clear that only an attorney should provide legal counsel, legal representation or sign
legal documents. A paralegal may do ninety percent of the work on a client s case but in the end
the attorney is the only one who can do these things. Polly Paralegal needs

ABSTRACT: The use of glycerol residue, a palm oil waste from Oleochemical industries as a
raw material for the production of succinic acid with immobilized cell fermentation process was
investigated. In this work, the raw material, immobilized cells to produced succinic acid were
characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and Scanning Electron
Microscope instruments. Based on the results, the functional group appearing for treated and
commercial glycerol is the hydroxyl, aromatic methoxyl, alkenes, soap, carbonyl and alcohol
group. The hydroxyl group which is O H appeared at a spectra value of 3394.2700 cm 1for the
treated glycerol and 3299.9600 cm 1 for the commercial group. Respectively. From the analysis
of SEM for bead, it was found that majority of pores fall within range and the shapes was
ellipsoid and a thick skin around strains was detectable, therefore indicating that immobilized cell

very quickly over time. As for electric vehicles, they don t have these expenses. Although, they
are not without expenses. For example, a new battery could cost a significant amount of money to

the owner would have to worry about paying for. Electric cars, even with the proposed risk of

A Quick Glance Into Joan Didion s Life
A quick glance into Joan Didion s life would put readers under the assumption that she identifies
as a standard second wave feminist. A prominent female writer in the 1960s, Didion had initially
left me drawing connections to the likes of Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem. Even her stern
gaze present on book covers and articles seems to give off a sense of feminine mystique. But
after careful venture into her work, it is my understanding that while feminism plays a role in
what Didion tackles as a writer, it is merely one lens out of many that she uses to advance her
writing. Didion has had an upbringing in Northern California as a daughter of the Golden West

From critiques on the corrupt industry of Hollywood filmmaking to images of death in the aptly
named Death Valley, Didion writes about the cultural values of people in 1960s California,
commenting on a sense of collective decline in societal awareness and hinting at how to improve
such downfall through awareness of the self. On Morality discusses the ethics of death and the sort
of culture surrounding how we as a society view mortality, and subsequently, the morality behind
it as well. Didion highlights the disturbing frequency with which the word morality appears in
the media and how casually it is tossed around, her point being that we have no way of knowing
[...] what is right and what is wrong (Didion 162). Observing the power of politics at play has led
her to reckon with these ethics herself, coming to the claim that indulging in a world of morality
is all right only so long as we do not delude ourselves about what we are doing, and why (Didion
162). Didion calls out those in the public eye with a sense that they must be affirmative on their
intentions of choosing sides in ethics, making sense of the world through an initial introspection
and subsequent application in society. Didion fears that we are already at a state of hysteria and
deception in claiming sides just for the sake of it, and thus she approaches her writing with the
notion that we must be aligned with our own values and priorities, uncovering what is failing us as a

amended by the creation of the Moscow Washington hotline, allowing for quick and frequent
communication between the two nations. This hotline allowed the relations between the two
superpowers to vastly improve over the course of the rest of the Cold War and prevented such an
event as the Cuban Missile Crisis from ever occurring again. Bill summed up the Cuban Missile
Crisis in an excellent way by stating, It was almost the dumbest way to blow up all of humanity.
The Soviets and us just pointed big guns at each other till everyone got scared, and if either
country would have shot those big guns the world wouldn t have ever been the same again. You
can t get two super powered countries firing nukes at each other and expect the world not to change,
and I think both Khrushchev and Kennedy realized that and did everything they could to stop it,
and thank God they

Free Trade and the Economy of Canada Essay
Free Trade and the Economy of Canada
Free trade is the act of exchanging goods or services between countries for minimal tariffs or fees.
Between countries, this is a method of exchange that is gaining more and more popularity. By
importing and exporting for low fees, free trade is an efficient way to cover up weaknesses in the
country and gain on strengths. Free trade is a very controversial topic that is viewed upon
differently by many people in many different countries. Some oppose free trade; they feel it will
cause production losses or low employment in their country. Many countries also embrace it and
believe it helps create a strong and healthy nation. They join in free trade organizations or draft free
trade agreements with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient
at making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does.
Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free
trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing
computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the
products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free
trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both
countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they
are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by
trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country
and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they
receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative
advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55).
In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and
producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to
specialize in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does

Centralized Failure Detection In The Monitoring System
The centralized approach is to recognize the most frequently used approach and to diagnose
abnormal data readouts caused by a monitoring process, malfunctions of the components of the
sensor node, or environmental events. In the centralized failure detection, each sensor node
periodically collects its read and sends a packet on the radio to the central base node responsible
for identifying faulty sensor nodes in WSN. In this concern, there are many research activities
were reported. Gupta and Younis tried to provide a tolerant grouping mechanism to fail to provide
the sensor by performing a sensor recovery in the runes in which the bridge has recovered. The
mechanism is separated into two phases: 1) detection step for detecting whether or... Show more

CNBD analyzed the aggregated data to the sink by the transfer time from end to end to obtain a
higher battery power of each node [83]. Guo and et. al. have suggested a Faulty Node Detection
(FIND) to WSN. FIND is a method for nodes with data errors capturing a centralized approach,
without specific recognition model taking into account. It is measured to measure the signal
attenuation distance [84]. Saihi and et al. used to create a centralized error detection method based
on clustering approach, the exchange of messages heartbeat actively scalable and balanced
applications for WSN [85]. In April 2016, Tahir and et al. evaluated a nominal power consumption
in wireless sensor networks through a system through which a small number of high energy nodes
collect both location information and the residual power state of the read nodes, then they are
transmitted to the base station (BS). The authors suggested an algorithm in which a minor
proportion of the high energy nodes are used to transmit each node s information to Base Station
(BS) [86]. 3.5. Distributed approach The decentralized approach is about capturing central resources
for detection and faster localization and healing. It combines the availability of the information
back to leverage the central approach and low overhead communication. In distributed detection of
errors, the sensor nodes themselves monitor their conditions

My First Semester Of English
Throughout my first semester of English in college I have gained a significant amount of
knowledge in writing. Each writing assignment encouraged me to use and try new approaches to
writing. They also encouraged me to a take my writings a step further than the previous papers I
have written before. My writingis more academic and formal rather than casual and informal. I have
taken the tools that I have learned throughout the semester and articulated those tools into each
writing project. With many hours of dedication to my papers as a whole, the time that I spent was a
time for learningand advancing the skills and tools I already had from high school.
I was surprised that the papers were not 12 pages as some previous teachers said that was what I
was going to be walking into. Although, 6 pages is still a lot for me, I felt most of the writing
projects were easy to reach the page requirement as they were interesting and fun topics.
Out of the four writing projects that we did, writing project three, the informative and surprising
essay, is the one that challenge me the most. It was a good challenge as I was determined to
answer the How and why is this important to society? question. That question was hard for me to
answer but will help from my peers and learning through class activities I was able to understand
and answer the Why and how? question. Before that paper, I have never had to relate my research
to society and write about it. This specific writing project

Rhetorical Analysis of Antony s Speech 3.2
Rhetorical Analysis of Antony s Speech
In Julius Caesar, Mark Antony is given the opportunity to speak at Caesar s funeral by the
conspirators the murdered him. Through his words, Antony seeks to cause dissent and let mischief
reign over his audience, the plebeians of Rome. Antony uses rhetorical questioning to provoke the
crowd into a fit of rage over Brutus words. Antony disguises his true intents in his speech, putting
him at a moral high ground over Brutus. He finally uses ambiguous meanings in his words to hide
his feelings about both Caesar and Brutus.
In lines 1 4, Antony introduces himself to the crowd. Friends, Romans, Countrymen , is what he
addresses the plebeians as, using pathos here to tie himself closer to the commoners ... Show more

He then paints Caesar as a great leader to Rome by telling the crowd that (He) hath brought many
captives home to Rome, whose ransoms did the general coffers fill. . Without Caesar s great
deeds, where would the public of Rome be? Antony questions if Caesar s acts for the whole of
Rome are truly ambition here.
From lines 19 22, Antony uses inflection to not praise Caesar literally while also proving his
innocence. When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner
stuff! , here Antony uses both pathos to link Caesar and the commoners and circumlocution to
question Brutus without calling him a liar to the public.
From lines 23 29, Antony assures the crowd that while his eulogy has provided opposing points to
Brutus rhetoric, he means not to call Brutus a liar or praise Caesar while actually doing both at the
same time. I thrice presented (Caesar) a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse: was this
ambition? , says Antony. Antony s ethos here, that any man that refuse a crown would obviously
not be ambitious, contradicts events the reader has seen. Although Antony persuades the crowd, as
all rhetoric should, that Caesar refused the crown three times, in actuality, Caesar was said to loathe
giving back the crown three times before suffering from his epilepsy. Antony, for the last time,
brings up that Brutus says he was ambitious; and, sure, he is an honorable man. . He has,

Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel

October 21, 2016
An auteur director is viewed as prime mover in creative filmmaking, whose work is considered to
have a distinctive style and innovative. Wes Anderson exemplifies the concept of auteurism due to
his personal influence, and artistic control in his movies. His films feature a continuity of technical
aspects with similar themes of familial drama and disgruntlement. From his well composed mise en
scene to classic pan shots, his style has surely become an acclaimed signature. The Grand Budapest
Hotel, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Royal Tenenbaums are chosen from Anderson s
filmography to show that the use of these features has remained constant since his earliest work.
Anderson is known for his quirky style. When people, especially filmgoers see a movie that has
distinguishing color palette and perfect symmetry that s aesthetically pleasing, they would know it
s his. Since The Grand Budapest Hotel is a story within a story, the color provides a distinction
between one period to another and gives more meaning to the film.
The story begins with an older Author played by Tom Wilkinson telling the tale on how he gets
his inspiration for his book which is also named The Grand Budapest Hotel. Then the younger
version of the author, played by Jude Law who meets Monsieur Zero Moustafa (F. Murray
Abraham) was shown. Zero meets the author and tells the tale on how he became the hotel s owner.

The Life Of A Woman, By Jamaica Kincaid
Lucy, the eponymous character of Jamaica Kincaid s second novel, moves from Antigua to New
York not in an arbitrary move, but in a calculated effort to explore her latent queer sexuality and
gradually escape the gendered labor of her homeland. By working as an au pair for an upper class
white woman named Mariah, Lucy trades birthing labor for domestic labor in a move that initially
seems lateral, but serves as a potential gateway to freedom from caretaking that would have been
inaccessible in Antigua. Unbridled from her mother, the American Lucy has opportunities to
explore her sexuality without being deemed promiscuous, and has the ability to live with a woman
she can have intimate relations with. Lucy has continuously disobeyed the performative
prescriptions of heteronormativity in her life, but, as explained by the work of Rosamund King,
her transgressions in Antigua are rendered invisible by a culture that believes women are incapable
of sexual agency. America acknowledges Lucy s transgressions against heteronormativity, which
lets her explore sexuality and gradually escape the obligations of gendered work. Lucy is escaping
the obligations delineated by femaleperformance. Lucy does not begin to experiment or play with
queerness and genderin America, but remains unassimilated to beauty standards with the same
intensity she had in Antigua. During her upbringing, her gender nonconforming behaviors and
ideology went ignored in Antigua because of the common misconception that females are
incapable of having sexual agency, intelligence, or usefulness beyond sustenence work and
caretaking within the household (King). Lucy is allowed to kiss girls, like her best friend from
school, and her does not fret over failing to enjoy acts of intimacy with males. Heteronormativity is
not enforced by expectations of female and male pairings, but instead by the gendered division of
labor. According to Nancy Hartsock s Feminist Standpoint, this tradition of forcing females into
sustenance work should create a collective caregiver essence to women, and Lucy proves the
antithesis. Akash Nichols, in his essay Straight Growth and the Imperial Alternative: Queer Reading

The Treaty Of Paris And Germany Essay
It was 1945 when the treaty to officially end the second world war was signed but that was just
the beginning. Europe was still in ruin. Even though Adolf Hitler was dead his army could still
be felt across the continent. It was now time to rebuilt. This wasn t just the rebuilding of cities
and lives, it was the rebuilding of order. Hitler had tipped the delicate scale of order and balance
and the scale had to be fixed. This fix came in the form of the Treaty of Paris (1951) which was
also known as the European Coal and Steel Community(ECSC) Treaty. The original purpose of this
treaty wasn t to unify Europebut in a few years that was its effect.
The ECSC Treaty s original purpose was to improve the economies that suffered during the war.
This idea was born from the thinking that France and Germany s vast steel and coal resources
could be used to help other countries. France and Germany agreed to participate because through
this treaty they believe they could help start the healing process that Europe so desperately needed.
There was also hope that European integration would stem from this treaty. The founding countries
of this community were France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It was the
foreign minister of France that proposed common high authority so other European countries
could participate if they wished. Changes were made and the treaty was signed July 23, 1952.
This treaty had a validity period of 50 years which meant it expired on July

Gender Roles In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
Madame Bovary is a novel by author Gustave Flaubert in which one woman s provincial
bourgeois life becomes an expansive commentary on class, gender, and social roles in nineteenth
century France. Emma Bovary is the novel s eponymous antiheroine who uses deviant behavior
and willful acts of indiscretion to reject a lifestyle imposed upon her by an oppressive patriarchal
society. Madame Bovarys struggle to circumvent and overthrow social roles reflects both a cultural
and an existential critique of gender and class boundaries, and her unwillingness to tolerate the
banalities of domestic life in a predetermined caste culminates in several distinct means of defiance.

Her relationship with the wealthy, charming Rodolphe Boulanger is a diversion from tedious
country life as well as an intentional subversion of the establishment of marriage and an attempt to
undermine her husband s authority. After her first conjugal transgression, Emma distinctly feels the
satisfaction of revenge and savoured [sic] it without remorse, without anxiety, without worry (161).
Though her husband Charles is guiltless of cruelty or vice he is representative of a patriarchy that
is entirely neglectful of the emotional, psychological, and intellectual needs of women and
assertive of its superiority and power. She is expected to fulfill the duties of a simple minded,
submissive, and sexless creature who is devoted to the comfort of her family and upkeep of the
home. By pursuing a sexual relationship with Rodolphe, Emma invalidates the authority of the
prohibitive government institution over her actions and demands autonomy in the face of a banal
provincial life.
Material possessions are both a comfort and a preoccupation for Emma Bovary and she is largely
defined by her identity as a consumer and her efforts to subvert traditional materialism through
excess. Attending a ball at the home of the Marquis de Andervilliers is one of the defining
moments in Emma s life, in which she receives a glimpse into the life of the aristocracy and

Stylistic And Narrative Features In Homer s The Odyssey
Discuss the ways that stylistic and narrative features are used in The Odyssey to construct
interesting and diverse female characters. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct
interesting and diverse female characters in his epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as
Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into varied and stimulating characters
through the use of various stylistic and narrative features. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic
similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a
brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings of Penelope whilst also performing the task of
creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at
bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning ring around him for the finish. This epic
simile is used by Homer to better understand the torment and fear felt by Penelope at the
possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors. Homer also uses epithets to describe
Penelope s personality further, often refereeing to her as Wise Penelope , cautious or careful
Penelope . This offers the audience a general and brief reminder of the type of character traits
Penelope possesses. Epithets are often used by Homer to profoundly highlight the importance of a
character within the story line and to catch the attention of the reader. Through these literary
techniques, Homer creates an interesting and

hair left at the crime scene of Mr Mowder (Evidence Hair). The Evidence Hair had a blonde color

Suspect A s hair sample was also blonde with slight shades of light brown. It s width was thin

Suspect C had a shading of light grey and was also thin. On the other hand, Suspect A s hair had
the similar light brown shading with similar thickness. During the experiment, a possible source of
error occurred when tweezers, used for handling the hair samples, were switched and possibly
contaminated the hairs. The hairs collected could had been switched from its rightful evidence bag,
altering the results.
Conclusion:
If each person s hair has different color and width examined on a microscope then the match found
between the suspect;s hair and crime scene hair must be the same person because each person s
hair has different set of characteristics. This hypothesis had been accepted, after comparing each
suspect hair with each other. Although some had come close to being similar to each other like
Suspect A s hair sample color and Suspect C s hair sample color, Suspect A s hair had a light
shade of brown while Suspect C s hair had a light shade of grey. Even when a person s hair bears
many resemblances to another, there will always be something different about them. This makes
each hair unique so the match between two samples must be the same

Dewey s Identity
In this journal, I will be characterizing Klaus. I characterized him as being both intelligent and
quite knowledgeable about literature. To begin with, Klaus is quite intelligent and wise. For
example, when the Baudelaires are at the hotel they need to keep hidden, so they decide to go
undercover as concierges. Being as wise as he is, when ever Klaus would be confronted by
someone he would always respond as vaguely as possible to conceal his identity. When Frank or
Ernest asked him who he was he answered with I m a concierge (Snicket 118). This shows that
Klaus is a deep thinker and he thinks before he speaks. He tried to respond as vaguely and non
suspiciously as possible. He did this because depending on which identical twin manager he... Show

I predict that next the Baudelaires will go to look for the sugar bowl, and while they are doing
that they will try to hide and escape the attention of Dewey s death. To begin with, one of the
first things that I predict will happen is that the Baudelaires will hide in the hotel and will try to
escape the attention of Dewey s death. In the first place, the public and visitors in the hotel went
crazy after the death of Dewey, and they are looking for the Baudelaires or any other people who
might have been involved in the death. The hotel was quite chaotic and everyone was talking
about who might have killed him. If they do not decide to hide or run away they will most likely
get caught. During all of the chaos someone shouted, We d better hurry downstairs, before they
escape (Snicket 242). This shows that a mob of people have already started a search party to
find the killer. From this it can be inferred that the Baudelaires might leave the hotel or hide
somewhere so they will not get caught. The Baudelaires were apart of the death of Dewey
Denouement, so the hotel guest will most likely find them sooner or later. In addition, the
Baudelaires might hide because Count Olaf has finally found them in the hotel, and he will
want to catch them. If they do not find a place to hide or disguise sooner or later Count Olaf is
bound to find them. Count Olaf is constantly trying to kidnap the Baudelaires, and is trying to get
their family fortune. Now that he knows where they are it can be inferred that he is definitely
going after them. Especially now, the Baudelaires most likely know that Count Olaf is after them
because he knows where they are, so they will most likely hide and try to get away from him.
Furthermore, the Baudelaires might decide to hide or run away because a suspicious man came up
to them and asked if they needed a taxi. This could be a quick getaway from the hotel and the
attention of the murder.

Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System
Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of
vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a
more comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn
(2004) and Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the
administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the
Criminal Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting
demographic information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California,
including 102 males and 119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a... Show more

Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as
understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where
to focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore
the relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system,
as the former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In
addition, exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to
generating a more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes
towards the criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the
Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to
validate their scale through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys,
including the Belief in a Just World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two
studies was to establish reliability and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study
was to establish test retest reliability of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to
replicate the results of the prior three studies with samples not drawn from student populations.
These studies indicated that the ATCLS survey has

which is precisely what happened. As bystanders would see her smashing and crashing into
these bars, they would second guess their choices on going to or supporting them. Also, Nation s

Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level
Megan Griffin
Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely
small level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little
concentrations of energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or
measure the position of an electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the
moment we observe it, it basically gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the
natural (Berge). In other words, our observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as
they explain the results. Quantum mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics,
but makes less sense to our intuitive rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as
particles sometimes act like waves. In return, things we view as waves sometimes act like
particles. For example, when people consider electrons and light, they determine electrons as
particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under some circumstances electrons act
as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take light and shine it on two slits
that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light. If a screen is behind it
you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based on the fact that light
is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of electrons, they do the
same thing.

The Mortality Trend Of Breast Cancer
Each person knows about Breast cancer these days, due to the fact that humankind witnesses
countless organizations working for this sole purpose diligently every day. Periodically we meet or

in women. According to the recent facts and figures from American CancerSociety about the
number of deaths from breast cancerin US in 2013, among all ages, has gone up to 39,620. This
portrays a massive number, nevertheless analyzing the mortality trend from 1990 2010, one can
grasp the death rate has been decreased to 34%. Consequently, the known reason behind this decline
is attributable to the improvements in our health care system in terms of treatment, in conjunction
with the early detection of breast cancer. Discussing about the risks of having breast cancer, we all

Centervale Police Patrol
All police departments grapple with the challenge of allocating their limited resources to meet to
meet law enforcement needs of the communities they serve. Crucial to alleviating the cost
pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and
expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies
would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols
will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to
outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the
needs of Centervale.
Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the
community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by
diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the
assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters
for both sides of the railroad tracks with fairness although with an emphasis on the crime prone
north.

Random preventive patrol strategies aim to increase visibility in the community to deter crime
and reduce the general public s fear of crime. However, this method of patrols is ineffective at
apprehending offenders. Directed patrols in Centervale would use hot spot policing approach by
increasing the presence of uniforms in the northern side of the railroad tracks, where crime is most
prevalent at night. However, that would come at price to the south side since the residents of the
south of railroad tracks contribute more to the town s taxes. The assistant chief would have to use
the money coming from the south side for crime deterrence in the north to prevent migration of
criminals to the

Doctor Assisted Suicide And Suicide
Doctor assisted suicide is a topic that has recently become a much larger debated issue than before.
A timeline put together by Michael Manning and Ian Dowbigging shows that prior to Christianity,
doctor assisted suicide was something that was tolerated, and was not heavily questioned (2). Yet, in
the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas had made a statement about suicideas well as doctor assisted
suicide, and his words shaped the Catholic teaching on suicide into what they teach today.
Beginning in the 17th century, Common Law tradition frowned upon suicide, as well as assisting
in suicide, and the colonies had adopted the Common Law principles. (2) In 1828, New York
passed a law completely outlawing the assistance of suicide, and made it to where whomever
assisted in the suicide could be tried for murder. In 1976, California became the first state to allow
patients to withdrawal themselves from life saving medicines, and this Natural DeathAct was seen
as a gateway to assisted suicide. (3 7) As controversy about California s Natural Death Act
increased, Pope John Paul II released a statement in 1980 which opposed to killing someone out
of mercy, but allowed the increased use of painkillers (8). Although, in 1994 Oregon passed their
Death with Dignity act, and with it came incredible amounts of backlash. Yet, in 2008 Washington
state passed the same act to legalize doctor assisted suicide. (10 12) In most people s lives, they
will experience a moment of knowing death is near.

They do that to check on what is new in the market or the current trends. Marketers and advertisers have seen an opportunity in the fact that people are always on the internet. They market their products on the internet by posting them on different websites for people to be able to see them. That type of advertisingthat takes place on the internet is referred to as online marketing or online advertising or internet advertising. It included email marketing, social media marketing, display advertising, search engine marketing (SEM), and mobile advertising. This type of marketing involves a publisher who posts the advertisement, with the permission of the owner of the website to post an advert for the viewers of the website to see. It occurs at a certain fee. Marketers have mastered the most commonly used websites, like the social media websites where they post their advertisement for the millions of people in social media to see them. They usually appear in the screen making it inevitable for a person to view it (Webb, 2007). Online advertisements have been made possible with the help of online advertising agencies. Comparisons a lot of people make is that cross country and track are the same thing, but those two sports are entirely different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to change the workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner enjoys long distance runningthen they also should go out for track since it has long distance events. Even though it has those events it doesn t change the fact the two are very different. Cross country mostly deals with long distance running, but its running on a grass and on hills. The works one would have to do to prepare for cross country meets would be transitions of 400 mile repeats, long runs that could be around five to ten miles on grass, gravel, or muddy, and dreaded hill workouts. These types of workouts work out the legs and core of a person to be ready for any rugged terrain that they would run on. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientific community has debated the methodology of the attainment of knowledge since Aristotle. Social science, such as the study analyzed here, wants to develop a more engaged relationship between knowledge and practice (Delanty Strydom, 2003). Conceiving their study on previous research done about the nature of knowledge and the nature of learning that influences thinking, Schommer Aikins and Hutter (2002) introduced an additional element of contemporary controversial issues encountered in everyday life. Their research looked to populations outside of academia to support their hypotheses. Generally, they were able to prove a relationship exists between individual beliefs about knowledge and learning and the ability to demonstrate higher order thinking. Education and critical thinking influence these beliefs (p. 16). The nature of knowledge and learning beliefs influence thinking in everyday life. Essay On White Privilege The central argument expressed by Marcus is that white privilege is not a result of a political agenda as was previously stated by Tim Wise, but rather a psychological one. He explained that, almost all scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on raceis bunk also adding that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as the absurd equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory over bigotry be won (Marcus). The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence. According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy McIntosh) can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people sees the benefits of white privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but not to the regular working class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon every white person regardless of whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say that all white people are born with silver spoons in their mouths or that they get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is that white people enjoy certain privileges that minorities should but do not. For example, a white person does not have to worry about getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and be asked to prove ownership because of the color of their skin. They do not worry about being followed by security while they shop for fear they might steal something. They do not have to deal companies refusing to hire them or housing discrimination. Also, our political world would not be the same. How would we advance in our associations with other countries, if not for the effects of change? Our government, our laws, our beliefs would not have changed from those of our early ancestors. Hence, it is visible that without change our society would be stuck in a rut with no way to advance and improve. Roland Barthes was interested in the way that signifiers words which are derived of meaning unless associated with an image or object were related to each other (intertextuality) and the way they reflect the context and culture from which they came. He believed that no text can stand alone as an isolated work. Rather they echo and reflect each other. Thus, he said, we should never do author centered studies and wrote of the Death of the Author . Rather, he stated that we should look at a text in its relation to other texts. Barthes ideas led to Post structuralism. Structuralists believed that meaning in literature could be determined by studying the language structures the signs or signifiers which represented ideas within a particular culture e.g. white as a sign or symbol of purity or innocence. Post Structuralists, however, argued that meaning can never be fully understood because the cultural ideas represented by those signs are themselves constructed by a society rather than ... On Morality discusses the ethics of death and the sort of culture surrounding how we as a society view mortality, and subsequently, the morality behind it as well. Didion highlights the disturbing frequency with which the word morality appears in the media and how casually it is tossed around, her point being that we have no way of knowing [...] what is right and what is wrong (Didion 162). Observing the power of politics at play has led her to reckon with these ethics herself, coming to the claim that indulging in a world of morality is all right only so long as we do not delude ourselves about what we are doing, and why (Didion 162). Didion calls out those in the public eye with a sense that they must be affirmative on their intentions of choosing sides in ethics, making sense of the world through an initial introspection and subsequent application in society. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. From lines 19 22, Antony uses inflection to not praise Caesar literally while also proving his innocence. When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner stuff! , here Antony uses both pathos to link Caesar and the commoners and circumlocution to question Brutus without calling him a liar to the public. The Life Of A Woman, By Jamaica Kincaid Lucy, the eponymous character of Jamaica Kincaid s second novel, moves from Antigua to New York not in an arbitrary move, but in a calculated effort to explore her latent queer sexuality and gradually escape the gendered labor of her homeland. By working as an au pair for an upper class white woman named Mariah, Lucy trades birthing labor for domestic labor in a move that initially seems lateral, but serves as a potential gateway to freedom from caretaking that would have been inaccessible in Antigua. Unbridled from her mother, the American Lucy has opportunities to explore her sexuality without being deemed promiscuous, and has the ability to live with a woman she can have intimate relations with. Lucy has continuously disobeyed the performative prescriptions of heteronormativity in her life, but, as explained by the work of Rosamund King, her transgressions in Antigua are rendered invisible by a culture that believes women are incapable of sexual agency. America acknowledges Lucy s transgressions against heteronormativity, which lets her explore sexuality and gradually escape the obligations of gendered work. Lucy is escaping the obligations delineated by femaleperformance. Lucy does not begin to experiment or play with queerness and genderin America, but remains unassimilated to beauty standards with the same intensity she had in Antigua. During her upbringing, her gender nonconforming behaviors and ideology went ignored in Antigua because of the common misconception that females are incapable of having sexual agency, intelligence, or usefulness beyond sustenence work and caretaking within the household (King). Lucy is allowed to kiss girls, like her best friend from school, and her does not fret over failing to enjoy acts of intimacy with males. Heteronormativity is not enforced by expectations of female and male pairings, but instead by the gendered division of labor. According to Nancy Hartsock s Feminist Standpoint, this tradition of forcing females into sustenance work should create a collective caregiver essence to women, and Lucy proves the antithesis. • 33. Stylistic And Narrative Features In Homer s The Odyssey Discuss the ways that stylistic and narrative features are used in The Odyssey to construct interesting and diverse female characters. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct interesting and diverse female characters in his epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into varied and stimulating characters through the use of various stylistic and narrative features. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings of Penelope whilst also performing the task of creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning ring around him for the finish. This epic simile is used by Homer to better understand the torment and fear felt by Penelope at the possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors. Homer also uses epithets to describe Penelope s personality further, often refereeing to her as Wise Penelope , cautious or careful Penelope . This offers the audience a general and brief reminder of the type of character traits Penelope possesses. Epithets are often used by Homer to profoundly highlight the importance of a character within the story line and to catch the attention of the reader. Through these literary techniques, Homer creates an interesting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Suspect C had a shading of light grey and was also thin. On the other hand, Suspect A s hair had the similar light brown shading with similar thickness. During the experiment, a possible source of error occurred when tweezers, used for handling the hair samples, were switched and possibly contaminated the hairs. The hairs collected could had been switched from its rightful evidence bag, altering the results. Conclusion: If each person s hair has different color and width examined on a microscope then the match found between the suspect;s hair and crime scene hair must be the same person because each person s hair has different set of characteristics. This hypothesis had been accepted, after comparing each suspect hair with each other. Although some had come close to being similar to each other like Suspect A s hair sample color and Suspect C s hair sample color, Suspect A s hair had a light shade of brown while Suspect C s hair had a light shade of grey. Even when a person s hair bears many resemblances to another, there will always be something different about them. This makes each hair unique so the match between two samples must be the same ... • 35. Dewey s Identity In this journal, I will be characterizing Klaus. I characterized him as being both intelligent and quite knowledgeable about literature. To begin with, Klaus is quite intelligent and wise. For example, when the Baudelaires are at the hotel they need to keep hidden, so they decide to go undercover as concierges. Being as wise as he is, when ever Klaus would be confronted by someone he would always respond as vaguely as possible to conceal his identity. When Frank or Ernest asked him who he was he answered with I m a concierge (Snicket 118). This shows that Klaus is a deep thinker and he thinks before he speaks. He tried to respond as vaguely and non suspiciously as possible. He did this because depending on which identical twin manager he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I predict that next the Baudelaires will go to look for the sugar bowl, and while they are doing that they will try to hide and escape the attention of Dewey s death. To begin with, one of the first things that I predict will happen is that the Baudelaires will hide in the hotel and will try to escape the attention of Dewey s death. In the first place, the public and visitors in the hotel went crazy after the death of Dewey, and they are looking for the Baudelaires or any other people who might have been involved in the death. The hotel was quite chaotic and everyone was talking about who might have killed him. If they do not decide to hide or run away they will most likely get caught. During all of the chaos someone shouted, We d better hurry downstairs, before they escape (Snicket 242). This shows that a mob of people have already started a search party to find the killer. From this it can be inferred that the Baudelaires might leave the hotel or hide somewhere so they will not get caught. The Baudelaires were apart of the death of Dewey Denouement, so the hotel guest will most likely find them sooner or later. In addition, the Baudelaires might hide because Count Olaf has finally found them in the hotel, and he will want to catch them. If they do not find a place to hide or disguise sooner or later Count Olaf is bound to find them. Count Olaf is constantly trying to kidnap the Baudelaires, and is trying to get their family fortune. Now that he knows where they are it can be inferred that he is definitely going after them. Especially now, the Baudelaires most likely know that Count Olaf is after them because he knows where they are, so they will most likely hide and try to get away from him. Furthermore, the Baudelaires might decide to hide or run away because a suspicious man came up to them and asked if they needed a taxi. This could be a quick getaway from the hotel and the attention of the murder. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting demographic information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California, including 102 males and 119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In addition, exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to generating a more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS survey has ... Her parents, Mary Campbell Moore and George Moore, soon relocated their family to Cass County, Missouri and when the Civil War broke out, moved their family to Kansas City. Carry began helping the injured in nearby Independence, Missouri where she soon met a young Civil War doctor by the name of Charles Gloyd. The two got married on November 21, 1867. The couple, however, separated shortly before the birth of their daughter. The cause of their separation is what would later on end Gloyd s life, a severe alcohol addiction. As bystanders would see her smashing and crashing into these bars, they would second guess their choices on going to or supporting them. Also, Nation s powerful public speeches had tremendous effects on listeners as well. Nation risked her life and freedom to fight for what she believed in. Even after being beaten severely and jailed multiple times, Nation would not back down. She was the definition of persistent right up until the day that she died. • 39. Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level Megan Griffin Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely small level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little concentrations of energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or measure the position of an electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the moment we observe it, it basically gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the natural (Berge). In other words, our observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as they explain the results. Quantum mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics, but makes less sense to our intuitive rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as particles sometimes act like waves. In return, things we view as waves sometimes act like particles. For example, when people consider electrons and light, they determine electrons as particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under some circumstances electrons act as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take light and shine it on two slits that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light. If a screen is behind it you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based on the fact that light is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of electrons, they do the same thing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crucial to alleviating the cost pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the needs of Centervale. Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. A timeline put together by Michael Manning and Ian Dowbigging shows that prior to Christianity, doctor assisted suicide was something that was tolerated, and was not heavily questioned (2). Yet, in the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas had made a statement about suicideas well as doctor assisted suicide, and his words shaped the Catholic teaching on suicide into what they teach today. Beginning in the 17th century, Common Law tradition frowned upon suicide, as well as assisting in suicide, and the colonies had adopted the Common Law principles. (2) In 1828, New York passed a law completely outlawing the assistance of suicide, and made it to where whomever assisted in the suicide could be tried for murder. In 1976, California became the first state to allow patients to withdrawal themselves from life saving medicines, and this Natural DeathAct was seen as a gateway to assisted suicide. (3 7) As controversy about California s Natural Death Act increased, Pope John Paul II released a statement in 1980 which opposed to killing someone out of mercy, but allowed the increased use of painkillers (8). Although, in 1994 Oregon passed their Death with Dignity act, and with it came incredible amounts of backlash. Yet, in 2008 Washington state passed the same act to legalize doctor assisted suicide.
