Albert Camus Suffering
In Albert Camus The Stranger, the novel centers around the life of Meursault, a French Algerian,
who begins the novel attending his mother s funeral. Meursault does not express grief over his
mother s death, and treats the day after the funeral as just another day with no nostalgia for what
came before. As the novel progresses, Meursault continuously shows this lack of emotion and
connection to others in his life, making him a stranger to not only the reader but other characters in
the story. When Meursault befriends a neighbor of his, Raymond, and helps him with his cheating
Arab girlfriend, he unknowingly gets sucked into a conflict that will affect the rest of his life. A
victim of circumstance and choice, Meursault commits a murder, and... Show more content on

The Stranger acknowledges a different approach to life and reality, one with certainty and emphasis
on the individual. In Melissa Payne s Discussion of the Absurd in Albert CamusNovels, Essays
and Journals, she describes that Camus desires that man reads this novel and becomes
disorientated and divorced from any reality of which he knows. He must recognize that reality
means that life exists and death is approaching; Camus believes that these are the only truths, and
abstractions no longer exist (Payne 15). In the novel, Meursault knows that his death is
approaching in the form of his execution for the murder of the Arab. His crisis arises while
questioning his past actions, an exercise out of character with his belief that life is only about
present choices and the dawn of the next day. Meursault does not seek to absolve himself by
turning to God or asking for forgiveness, but instead, accepts the life he has chosen, freed by the
certainty that death was inevitable one way or

The Impact Of Tajikistan On The United States Of The...
Tajikistan gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and in its short life has already
seen considerable amounts of turmoil. When it was first declared a sovereign nation it was
plunged very quickly in to civil war. The war led to a quick decline in the nation s economy. This
war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew
to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely
on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming
a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government
to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the
corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan.
There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in
Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan
to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the
midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick
money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing
drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Afghanistan shares a 1,200 km border with

Latin America Foreign Policy Essay
Latin America cannot be categorized as one homogenous block. In spite of sharing multiple aspects
culture, language, and history there is not a single standard culture that distinguishes the region.
One aspect of Latin American culture, regarding foreign policy, is a prevalent respect for the norm
of sovereignty and non intervention. There exists a strong disposition to follow international law
as a means to prevent war or at the very least ward off potential intervention by extraregional
powers. Accordingly, the factor of self interests and self preservation creates a divergent spectrum
of foreign policies within these countries. Thus, there is a unique propensity of domestic politics
primarily from those leaders in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A comparative analysis will be made between a legalistic and pragmatic/realistic approaches. Taking
into account that each country is independent from each other, and with differing interests, this
essay will give multiple reasons as to why such a variety in policy exists. Accordingly, this essay
will show a propensity for states to apply the foreign policy development strategy that best fits their
needs. Although there may be a sense of preferential treatment for some strategies, Latin American
countries are not inherently bound to a specific development scheme.
The Legalistic Nature of Latin America
Legalism as a cornerstone of Latin American norms has effectively shaped the relationship between
how these states relate to each other and the world. According to Arie Kacowicz, it was considered
honorable for a country to meet its lawful commitments not divorced from considerations of
national interests such as prestige and reputation. When a region s identity relies so much on
traditional legacies, the trend is to lean towards the accepted norms that culturally tie the region. In
its simplest terms, norms are standards of behavior or laws that oversee the behavior of a societal
block. Although, Latin America cannot be studied as a homogenous block, countries in the region
vary in their alignment patterns independently of each other in an attempt to pursue self interests.
There is, however, enough of a social

Monologue For An Onion By Suji Kwock Kim
In the poem Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim, an onion speaks to another
individual. In the poem The Suitor by Jane Kenyon, the speaker reacts to the recurring presence
of a suitor. In each poem, the onion and the suitor represent something else. Through the
metaphor of the onion, Kim shows that the onion represents her guarded heart broken into so
many pieces that she does not even believe that it is there. Someone tries to love her, but in the
end they both end up hurt. In The Suitor the suitor represents a woman who has finally found
happiness and stability after many suitors have come and gone from her life. The two metaphors
in each poem have meanings that are very similar. The onion represents her heart and the suitor
represents happiness. Although they are different they both rely on each other in the poems.
Without finding the onion s heart, the man is broken and is unable to find happiness, and the
happiness that is given by the suitor comes from him from love inside her heart. A representation
of this can be found in The monologue of an onion when it is said you are the one in pieces this
man is so distraught at not finding her heart, his heart is breaking into pieces as well. In the suitor
it is stated that she is finally happy, and it slowly came as suitors went into her life bringing her
love. One major difference between the poems are that, the men in the suitor show their true selves
without a problem. In the monologue of an onion it is

on and were armed with sticks. They attacked the marchers with their weapons and tear gassed
them too. The footage was shown on television all over the country and the only defense given
back from the protesters was the force of nonviolence carried on by Martin Luther King. The
march had to stop because of violence, then began once again with the help of King. The marchers
were certified protection from National Guard Troops so no harm can come to them. By the time
the capital of Alabama was reached, 30,000 people had joined the march including priest,

Importance Of Physical Education
Physical education plays a crucial role in the education of the whole student. While research
supports the significance of movement in educating both the mind and body, many education
institutions do not require physical education in their programs. Physical education contributes
directly to the development of physical capability and fitness, while helping students make educated
choices, and giving them the ability to understand the value of living an active lifestyle. A study

The athletic programs in schools solely provide children with different ways to learn motor skills,
advance fitness, and gain knowledge about physical activity. The physical benefits acquired from
establishing a pattern of physical activity in a child s life include disease prevention, reduced
morbidity, safety, and increased intellectual health. In a standard United States physical education
program, students learn about the health benefits obtained from participating in physically active
activities, as well as the importance of continuing these practices throughout life. In elementary
school, the athletics program emphasizes the development of fundamental locomotor, non
locomotor, and artful skills through dance, gymnastics, and games. The motor skill basis
established during elementary years can increase children s social, cognitive, and physical
development, and could also increase the individual s interest in physical activities later on in life.
Subsequently, in middle school, the physical activities taught in elementary school are usually
refined, combined, and applied to sport related activities. However, the expeditious growth in
children during this time may affect the student s interests, leading the student to develop diverse
fitness elements. This can carry over into high school, where the students become more
independent. In this stage of life, physical education helps high school

Analysis Of The Book A New Hope
Chapter 1 Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It s Not) Response
List the five aspects of the QUEST and then apply them to something you have read (or viewed) in
the form used on pages 3‐5.
A quest must consist of a quester or character pursuing said quest, a destination, justification to
journey to that destination, challenges the quester faces along the way and, finally, the true reason
for making the journey. A movie that undoubtedly mirrors these components is Star Wars Episode
IV: A New Hope, which follows a young Luke Skywalker who finds himself on a quest, initially to
deliver Death Star plans to the planet of Alderaan at the request of the planet s princess and Rebel
Alliance leader Leia, and eventually to work with the rebels in order to bring down the Death Star.
While at first Luke was resistant to joining jedi master Obi Wan Kenobiin learning the ways of the
force and fulfilling the mission, he is quickly motivated by the deaths of his aunt and uncle at the
hands of Imperial Stormtroopers. On his journey, Luke faces many struggles such as when the
Millennium Falcon, the ship operated by companions Han Solo and Chewbacca, is captured via
tractor beam by the Death Star that would eventually lead to the death of mentor Obi Wan. In the
end though, Luke, Han and Leia are celebrated in taking down the Death Star, saving the lives of
many.

A Analysis of Jack London Novels
A literary Analysis of Jack London three most recognized works, Sea Wolf; The Call of the Wild;
and White Fang.
Jack London lived a full life, even though he died at the young age of forty. In his life time he
experienced many things, and I believe that these experiences were the catalyst of his novels. Jack
London was an oyster pirate, a government patrolman in San Francisco Bay, a sailor and an
agrarian reformer, a seal hunter in the North Pacific and a gold prospector in the frozen Klondike,
a war correspondent and a prizefighting reporter, a socialist soapbox orator who later became a
lecturer at universities, a family man and landowner, and of course a true American writer. A critic
by the name of Alfred Kazin once said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the success of The Call of the Wild, London decided to write a complementary work the
story of a dog taken out of the wild to become part of civilization.
Thus, White Fang was created. White Fang is about wolf who s mother goes into a tribe of
Indians because food is scarce. The cub ( White Fang) is taken in by a tribe but at the same time
rejected by his mother. This is the first step in his hard upbringing. He is not friend to all of the
other Indian dogs and even the Indians. He leaves camp with his master. He is sold to a new
owner. This new owner is mean to the dog and does not let him live a desired life. This new
owner makes white fang a fighting dog. The wolf is the champ of the region until he fights a
small bull dog. White Fang tore wildly around, trying to shake off the bulldog s body (p. 167)He
almost dies but the fight is broken up and white fang is rescued by a good man by the name of
Weedon Scott. White Fang loves his new master and this is the first time he has experienced
love for anything. Scott eventually has to go home to California and is about to leave White
Fang. White Fang was howling as dogs howl when their masters lie dead (p. 186) White Fang did
not want this to happen so he ran as fast as possible to the ferry and just made it. Scott goes back

is destroying Democracy by Damon Linker. The publication of this article was in 2018. The issue
that the author explains with detail in this article was; Is democracy being destroyed by twitter?
The conclusion of his issue was yes, our democracy is being destroyed because of twitter. This
article had many reasons to explain his point of view. The first reason to clarify the conclusion
given is that Twitter increases the social compulsive inclinations between those who work in the

false cause post hoc was used in the beginning of the article. This fallacy was used by explaining
that Tweeter is causing the politicians and newscasters to become the worst version of
themselves. This fallacy was effective. The reason why is because it was one of the main parts
of the overall issue that the author was trying to explain. This fallacy helped the argument,
because it was a great way to describe the issue. Also, the other fallacy that was used by the
author was hasty conclusion, this fallacy was used throughout the article one place was that if
tweeter vanishes than the politicians and news anchors will become their best and more
professional selves. This fallacy was effective, because it benefitted what the authors point was
that he was trying to get across. This fallacy did help the argument because it assumes that if
tweeter is gone the world could become a better place to be.
Furthermore, the bias language that was used throughout the article was weasel words. The value
words that were used to elicit an emotional response of confusion, and fear will be denotation,
connotations and, ambiguity. The language that was used in getting the point across was effective.
The reason why is that the words Twitter, politician and news anchors were used variously
throughout the article, as if this argument was directed toward and for the news broadcasters and

Texas Hold Em Research Paper
I m All In Texas Hold em is a card game that has become very popular all around the world. It is a
game that uses one 52 deck card and is played up to a max of 10 players per table. Players buy in a
certain amount of cash in exchange for chips and use them to play. Players are dealt two cards
each, which is also known as their hole cards or their hands. This gameis played with 5 community
cards, also known as the Board, that are layed out in the middle of the table. The first three cards
dealt out are called the Flop. The next card is called the Turn, and the final card dealt out is
called the River. The object of this game is to match the two hole cards with the board to try and
make the best hand. This game is similar to poker, but is played in a more complex way. There are

There are a lot of tricks to maneuver when playing this game. Sometimes if a player has a losing
hand, he or she can still win by bluffing the other player. Bluffing is a bet made by a player in an
attempt to try and make other players fold their cards. Bluffing can be a risky move because you
are betting with no hand, and if a player has good cards and call your bet, you might lose.
Therefore, doing a bluff bet is all about the right timing. An added skill needed to bluff is being
able to read players body movements and their betting patterns. These are important skills to have
in order to know if the other player has a strong or weak

Greensboro Sit Ins And The Civil Rights Movement
Do you feel that there is equality in North Carolina? If you say yes, this is partially due to the
Greensboro Sit Ins and the Civil Rights Movement. Many in North Carolina were impacted by the
audacity of what started as some students and the black community members who protested for
equality of races even right here in North Carolina, where we call home. Despite advances in the
fight for racial equality (including the landmark 1954 Supreme Court verdict in Brown v. Board of
Education and the Montgomery Bus Boycott), segregation was still the norm across the southern
United Statesin 1960. Depending on whose perspective is looked at, some may still feel
segregation is the norm in some cases. These racial segregations have been an issue longer than
one can imagine, but from these certain events, life has improved and has become a lot easier for
everyone in that case. We no longer have to worry about where we sit or who we can or cannot

The Pardoner is a big liar and act so greedy but at the same time he telling good story and lesson.
In The Pardoner s Prologue , especially in the end of the prologue, it clearly show that his

also in The Pardoner s Tales , we can see that there are a lot of repeat word that represent the
Pardoner itself and the church believe. The Pardoner say the word gluttony and greed many
times, he tells that they are bad but the way he act and speech are all ironic. Here are some quote
from the tale, O gluttony, so full of cursedness! O first cause of our trial and tribulation, Origin

Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples
Deafness and the Power of Signing
When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf
people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and
again. It is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of
the time when they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be
overcome. The sign for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger
circling up by the forehead instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it
means. There is also a sign for the reverse: some hearing people get so involved in the deaf
community that they think they are deaf, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these elements is a heightened appreciation for the margins, for the periphery.
Symmetry
According to Ronnie Wilbur of Boston University, a strict Symmetry Condition exists for signs
where both hands move, they must have the same handshapes and both hands movements must be
either identical or in polar opposition to one another (1). Some symmetrical signs: family, group
class place, love, community. The deaf community is not a mirror image of the hearing world; ASL
is not English with the sound off.
Bring the fingertips of your right hand together. Touch the fingertips to your chin near your
mouth, then up further to the right, by your ear. Home is significant for so many deaf people,
for the ones who grew up in a hearing world, missing whole conversations, falling behind in
school, acting as hearing as they could. One deaf teacher told me she was sure, as a child, that
when she turned eighteen she would become hearing: she didn t know any deaf adults, so she
just assumed they didn t exist. She didn t know what sign language was. When she turned
eighteen and was still deaf, she decided to go to Gallaudet, the only deaf liberal arts college in the
country. She said she couldn t really explain it to me, I wouldn t really know, but she felt like she

Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act
Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) are controversial in nature, because while they
pretend to use the excuse to protect the free exercise of religion, intrinsically it is an avenue to
attack same sex marriages which have been ruled constitutional by most circuit appellate courts in
the United States. Currently the Supreme Court is hearing the cases that might ultimately decide
the faith of marriageequality. United States v. Windsor opened the door for most federal appellate
jurisdictions and some states to rule that prohibiting same sex marriagewas constitutional, on the
basis of the 14th Amendment equal protection clause. Despite this decision, the right to marriage
is not an explicit protection addressed by the Constitution, and is often seen as a right delegated
to the States under the 10th Amendment. On the other hand the free exercise clause is part of the
First Amendment, and protects people from doing things that violate their religious principle, for
example a Christian doctor from performing an abortion. The article from New York Times in
which Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is an attempt to legitimize that RFRA plays an important
place in protecting the free exercise of religion of people and the power to authorize or prohibit
same sex marriage rest on the states police powers under the 10th Amendment. While a majority of
Americans nowadays sympathize with gay people and equality marriage it is a more difficult

Robot Takeover Essay
Since before the standing of the Luddites, society has had a fear of technology and it s advances
into the job market. According to Volti, (2012), job security is an important factor is people s
satisfaction in life and on the job (p. 199), and with the threat of anyone or thing taking over is
extremely unsettling. During the Industrial Revolution, people saw technologyadvancing and
replacing people in factories which enhanced fears of a complete take over. Decades have passed
and we have not seen the overtaking by these machines because the machines are dependent on
human maintenance and programing, but with the fast, exponential rate of the advancement of
artificial intelligence, will technology finally encroach on most positions now held by humans?
There are arguments on both sides of the line, some stating new positions will be created with
the help of technology, others say humans are doomed and the robot takeover is closer than we
think. Whichever side of the line they lean towards, one thing they all agree upon is that robots,
artificial intelligence will be a common site in most all fascist of society. Arntz, Gregory and
Zierahn (2017), believe current statistics, stating up to half of all jobs are at risk of takeover by
automation, do not consider tasks and jobs that will be created to assist technology (p. 157). Just as
during the Industrial Revolution when the Luddites believed technology would take over, currently
no one can foresee what new positions will

Candide, By Voltaire And Optimism
Candide or Optimism is one of the works of Voltaire. This novella mainly satirizes philosophical
optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was
created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his
tutor Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candidelooks
to Dr. Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens
Candide looks to Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that
there is no effect without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country
seat was the most beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire,
20). This idea was supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence
came from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. Voltaire did not agree with this
philosophy, hence, he created a brutal satire of optimism in Candide. This is clearly demonstrated

Arguing Against Capital Punishment
In the debate over capital punishment, the opponents argue that capital punishment should not be
practiced because it has a civilizing effect and practicing capital punishment has do deterrent effect.
On the other side of the debate, the supporters argue that capital punishment should not be
abolished because it is just retribution and has a deterrent effect. In this paper, I will argue that
capital punishmentshould not be practiced. In the article titled, The Folly of Capital Punishment,
Jeffrey Reiman concludes that capital punishment is less just. Reiman has four arguments against
capital punishment.Reiman states that an argument for capital punishment being a deterrent would
have to be based on speculation, as there is no solid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The victim did not do anything to deserve death, the criminal did. To counter the argument that
capital punishment is uncivilized, Van Den Haag points out that most civilizations have had the
death penalty at some point in their history. He also addresses the argument that the death sentence
is degrading by showing that philosophers, such as Immanuel Kant, have said that execution affirms
the criminal s humanity by affirming their ability to make decisions and rationalize. After analyzing
and evaluating both arguments, I believe that the most reasonable conclusion is that Reiman s
argument is stronger; therefore, I also conclude that Van Den Haag s argument is weaker. The first
argument that both Van Den Haag and Reiman argue is the deterrent effect and, for lack of
evidence, both admit that this argument is only speculation. Van Den Haag s argument on this
subject is only lacking in that he didn t consider the possibility of practicing capital punishment
cancelling out the deterrent effect of not practicing capital punishment. Reiman acknowledges this
effect and then shows that, if you choose not to execute, you cause less pain by saving one life.
Reiman s argument on this point is improved when you take into consideration Van Den Haag s
argument about miscarriages of justice. According to Van Den Haag, a person who is innocent and
receives the death sentence is wronged in the worst way. Still, we continue to

Merchant Shipping Activities Remain The Pillar Of Global...
1. Introduction
According to the OECD (2012) merchant shipping activities remain the pillar of global trade,
with more than 80% of international cargo transported via sea. Throughout history, maritime
activities have played a vital role in shaping the world, from fishing, to the transport of people
during the age of discovery, as well as global trade. With world trade growth being the core
driving force behind maritime trade, other factors include; institutional and technological factors,
freedom of trade, as well as China s participation in the global economy (World Ocean Review
n.d.). As shipping is a derived demand, developments in maritime transport are thus shaped by
global macroeconomic trends. The biggest problem in shipping is the ability to forecast long term
freight rates, and current tools such as generalized autoagressive conditional heteroskedasticity
(GARCH) are often aimed at short term correlation. GARCH is an approach which helps describe
market volatility (Investopedia n.d.). Freight rates essentially drive the shipping industry in terms
of fleet size, and are often a good indication of the strength or weakness of the shipping market. The
volatile state of the current market means the accurate need for forecasting and keeping up to date
with trends is imperative. This report aims to provide an overview of current trends in merchant
shipping.

Ivan The Great Tatar Essay
The Tatars also known as the Mongols invaded Russia and forced the Russian princes to send
tribute to the Tartar state or the Empire of the Golden Horde. During this time there were attempted
invasions from the Swedes and the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. Both were defeated by
Alexander Nevsky, a prince and a warrior from Novgorod. A century later the Tatars went southwest

Monasticism Vs Asceticism Essay
This paper will summarize the major differences between Ascetic (early Eastern) and Western
monasticism. In addition will explain why living Christian live in the isolated community that
routinizing a whole life ordered to God through prayer, study and work is more efficient than living
the Christian life alone. The paper will also point out why, the founder of Western monasticism,
Benedict encouraged the rules for organizing the common life and why he argued that society as
well as the property evoke evil thoughts. At the end of the paper I will provide my personal
feedback on why I believe that common life of Western monasticism is better fulfills the mission of

Benedict suggested that the isolation of monks from the society was essential for the following
reason. The founders of monasticism recognized that secular society functions both to encourage
the pursuit of sex, power and possessions and to limit the potential destructiveness of these pursuits
. Therefore, the Western monastic life provided the alternative: Instead of the pursuit of sex, the
monks vowed celibacy; instead of the pursuit of power, he vowed obedience; instead of seeking
possessions, he vowed poverty . In other words, the community both increases the pressure on the
monks to understand their own souls, and decreases the chances of temptation of sin that may be
provoked by the society. In addition, the complete Isolation of the community from the society also
provides support and encouragement for the distinctive religious practice. Benedict required a life
of obedience for monks that live within Western community, stability of residence and moral
straggle. The abbot was to be chosen by the monks; once chosen, he had full authority over all
decisions relating to the monastery and the individuals within it . In other words, the obedience,
humility and patience were supreme virtues of the monks. According to Benedict, the main duty of

The Holy Qur An And From Authentic Hadith From Our...
Leadership in Islam is considered to be a necessity, no matter what time period we are in. This
can be seen through some of the ayat in the Holy Qur an and from authentic hadith from our
beloved Messenger of Allah (Sallallhu alayhi wa salam). Authentic leadership is something that
is beneficial for all people. Allah (subhanahu wa ta ala) says in the Qur an, It is He Who hath
made you (His) agents, vicegerent of the earth: He hath raised you in ranks, some above others:
that He may try you in the gifts He hath given you: for thy Lord is quick in punishment: yet He is
indeed Oft forgiving, Most Merciful (Qur an ,Al An Гўm 6: 165). In this ayat we see that Allah
(subhanahu wa ta ala) has given some people control over more things than others and that some
are appointed as rulers. Allah (subhanahu wa ta ala) Himself is telling us that some of the people
are to be rulers over the other people (Towards Understanding). Of course as with everything,
Allah (subhanahu wa ta ala) has given us guidelines how to successfully be a good ruler. Allah
(subhanahu wa ta ala) has provided us with the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam). The
Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) said, All of you are shepherds and each of you is
responsible for his flock. An imam is a shepherd and he is responsible for those in his care. A man

Why Do Wes Moore Make Bad Decisions

Decisions that Changed their Lives Forever Wes and the other Wes Moore both made poor
decisions at a young age, but only one was able to change for the better. The Other Wes Moore is
a book written by Wes Moore about two men with the same name living very different lives. Both
Wes Moores have a lot in common, both didn t have a father growing up, their mothers worked
multiple jobs to give their families a better life, and both grew up in bad neighborhoods. I believe
that both live drastically different lives because the other Wes Moore made poor decisions and Wes

Wes was also doing very poorly in school, his grades where very low and the teachers would tell
his mother that he had a learning disability, but the real reason why he was doing so poorly was
because he wasn t showing up to class most of the time. Wes had made the decision to only go to
class twice a week. Wes Moore states, Some days I would check into homeroom; other days I d
head directly back to the train and return to the neighborhood, where I d meet up with one of the
guys who had a similar arrangement (77). If Wes had made better decisions while attending
Riverdale his mother would have never sent him to Valley Forge. Since Valley Forge was such a
big impact on his life, by not being sent there he would of probably never have gone to Johns
Hopkins and wouldn t have traveled to South Africa. In my opinion by attending Valley Forge Wes
was able to change his life for the better. If Wes had ever decided to actually go through with his
plan and escape Valley Forge and go home he would have a very different life. It was Wes s
decision to join sports, clubs and do well in his academics. If he wouldn t have done so he would of
probably been dropped from Valley Forge and be forced to go back home. Valley Forge was a huge
impact on his life because it taught him how to fully prepare for his responsibilities as an adult, to

Bicameral Legislature Dbq Essay
The US should stick with a bicameral legislature as opposed to moving to a unicameral
legislature. The advantages of a bicameral legislature surpasses those of a unicameral legislature.
A bicameral legislature allows for one chamber to be closer to its constituents. In addition, a
bicameral legislature allows house and senate members to have distinct jobs which distributes
the workload instead of putting it all in the hands of a single chamber. It also makes it so that it is
less likely for a flawed bill to be passed. For those reasons, the US should keep a bicameral
legislature.
A benefit of a bicameral legislature is that constituents get better representation through the House
of Representatives. According to Document B, the House of Representatives is meant to be closer
to its constituents while the Senate focuses on being the more deliberate chamber. Basically, House

the power to approve treaties. Meanwhile, the House has the power to initiate spending bills, and

Troilus and Criseyde are doing at this time. They were like Romeo and Juliet in many of ways they
hid it. When you are courting someone it goes differently as you ask the father or both of the
parents permission before anything happens with the daughter.
Calchas who is Criseyde s father had persuaded the Greeks to release Antenor a prisoner of war

Troilus says that they should run off and get married but Criseyde doesn t think that would work

Essay On Moral Dilemmas In The Crucible
What is a moral dilemma? A moral dilemma is a man versus self conflict. It is when a character
has to perform two different actions, but they can not perform both actions because it is not
possible. Authors use moral dilemmas in their writings to retain the reader s interest in the book
or play and to have the reader ask questions. People often face many life altering choices such as
right versus wrong or good versus bad. In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor chooses to

Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory
Critical Accounting Theory
According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting
Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the
accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling
accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular
resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or
restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms
of accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of
organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning
it focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said
that it is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social
responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions
of the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the
focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant
points of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a
link between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and

When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler.
Hatshepsut recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut
show her as resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics
were suppressed and replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with
broad shoulders and a false beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of
power. The hieroglyphs on the statue identify her as female, so she was not trying to make
people believe she was a male. By representing her bodily figure more similar to males, people
would think of her as more powerful and respectful. We know the only reason that pharaohs

that to the Egyptians, statues were embodiments of the person being depicted so this statue was

Analysis Of The Book My Lie
Your Lie in April (е››жњ€

the manga by Naoshi Arakawa. The plot follows KЕЌsei Arima, Kaori Miyazono and Tsubaki
Sawabe as they face teenage problems in love, music, and health.
This anime is by far the most depressing series I have ever watched. It s not just sad, it s
depressing. It s like watching a group of cursed kids going through traumatic events that will
likely make them the most miserable adults possible. The series started with the potential of
being one of the great tear jerkers, but they forgot how to give something resembling happiness to
keep the story in the light. At times, it feels like the story, and the characters, are about to emerge
from the shadows, only to be pulled back deeper, like a swimmer caught in the ocean desperately
trying to reach shore as it s swept further away by each crashing wave. Due to the constant dark
nature of the story, I found the scenes that should have been emotional just blended into the rest of
the story, resulting in a story with very little emotional impact. Although, the final two episodes
were so emotional that they cut right through all that sadness, which should tell you how fantastic
they were. But two unforgettable episodes does make an unforgettable series.
Much of the problem in Your Lie in April stems from the repeated content. Sometimes the beginning
of one episode is the same as the final minutes of the previous episode, with a few alterations. This

Fairness Is Equality, And Equality Is Perfection
Distribution Day Fairness is equality, and equality is perfection. The cold of winter had finally
given way to gentle temperateness, and the spring sun shone over the massive, perfectly manicured
lawn, dappling its light through the leafy branches of the grand, towering oak tree. Elana
Steinbach sat peacefully thereunder, sipping cool, sweet lemonade for the first time in months as
she perused a book. The leaves danced in the cool breeze; the whole environment was quite
tranquil. There was nothing like the first day of true spring, when one could at last escape the stale,
heated air and enclosing confines of the indoors.
The subtle vibration of a phone jolted her from the world of the novel. Soundlessly, she closed the
book and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evan Klein was among those whom Elana had adjudged unlikely to contribute to society.
Growing up, his parents had received a modest amount of rations. While his family was never
among the elite, Evan rarely wanted for much (though this could also be attributed to his selfless
attitude). They had lived in a quaint but roomy house, an older style stucco abode with a black,
shingled roof. Their neighborhood, in the outskirts of the city, was what Evan used to refer to as a
Godilocks neighborhood a happy medium of not too crowded and not too empty.
In contrast to Elana s apparent opinion, Evan considered himself rather a bright man. His scores in
school had been on par with his peers and he had exhibited a propensity for economics; he could
have performed quite well in any number of entrepreneurial endeavors. Instead, his knowledge of
economics had led him to idealism: he believed wholeheartedly in the value of the free market, and
saw no good reason for society s system of market strangulating quasi capitalism through the
assessment of people s worth and artificial allotment of resources thereby. In old times, merits were
judged not by the government, but by employers, in true free markets. To question the ways of
society was tantamount to the sacrilege of which people spoke in the era of religion, but Evan
nonetheless felt that only the stupid could possibly be duped into thinking that the system under
which he lived constituted economic

Argument From Design Arguments
In this paper I will explain the Argument from Design. From there I will address what I find to be
the two best objections to the Argument from Design. Then I will explain why I do not find these
arguments persuasive. The Argument from Design is based upon two basic premises. The first
premise is that if something performs a function then it is a product of intelligent design and is
produced by the designer in order to serve this purpose. The second premise is that the material
universealso includes functional complexity that has the same features. The material universe is
full of functions. If something has a function, then it must be complex. If something is complex
then it must have an intelligent designer. The argument quite simply states... Show more content on

Having a heterogeneous structure doesn t make something complex. Mount Blanc, for example,
should not be considered complex. It does have a heterogeneous structure, but it doesn t serve a
particular purpose. If the mountain was rearranged completely it would still be a mountain no
matter what order its parts are in. It could have been arranged by mere chance. Living things or
things that serve a purpose cannot be arranged by mere chance and still perform their function.
However, the results are very different if a living thing is rearranged and its parts are put in a
different order. If a living thing is rearranged, it s not likely that it will be able to live let alone
function the same. The same results of that of a living thing are applied to complex things that
function. If a computer is assembled in random order by chance, the odds are astronomically low
that it will function correctly if it functions at all. This same principal is applied to the natural and
material world. If it was assembled by mere chance and if the parts were arranged in any different
order the odds of it actually functioning correctly are astronomically low. Therefore, everything
must have been designed by an intelligent designer to have the unique physics that allow them to
function properly, unique parts that allow

Overview
When we enter the world of Andrzej Sapkowski we were captivated with the visual quality of the
surroundings and the perfect modeling of all the characters and creatures, especially The White
Wolf (Geralt of Rivia). The quality of the textures, dynamics processing work and the perfect
implementation of all elements provide a living world around us that will leave us captivated. This
impressive finish is enhanced by the huge size of the map (3.5 times larger than Skyrim) and the

It is incredibly shocking and galling to see the incredible design of the physical context in which
we live.
You can go riding on a plain to gradually go deeper into a thick forest with giant trees that at one
point, block any sunshine. I found that the random encounters and events with people and monsters
in the open world were just as fulfilling as the main story.
I am happy to say that this kind of magical moments are more frequent in The Witcher 3 of what
many might think. Every plant, every bush, every stream, every swamp and every ravine, has a
purpose to be, leaving very clear the huge attention to detail that was put into this aspect of the
game. No, you will not get bored at any time the environment you have to explore, because its
elements will feel organic and mutating as your story progresses. In general, I can say that explore
every centimeter of the world that presents Wild Hunt, is a true delight.

The Challenges Of Domestic Violence Essay
MILLERSBURG Every other year, the gardens of Holmes County become inspirations for novice
growers, while helping to raise funds to aide victims of domestic abuse.
The Holmes County Friends and Neighbors of OneEighty Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence
will continue its effort to provide crisis intervention, treatment, counseling, prevention and support
for those affected by domestic violence, when it raises money by presenting its biennial Garden
Tour on July 9.
The gardens selected this year are located in south central Holmes County, at the homes of Ruston
Baker and Claudia Rozuk, 1769 County Road 150, Millersburg and 1665 County Road 150,
Millersburg; David and Leona Hershberger, 2143 Township Road 112, Millersburg; and Gayle
Patterson, 2527 State Route 83 Millersburg. The tour also will feature a stop at the Holmes County
Open Air Art Museum at The Inn at Honey Run, 6920 County Road 203 Millersburg.
Money generated by the tour helps to support operations in Wayne and Holmes counties. A full time
advocate staffs an office in Millersburg, where counselors also meet with men, woman and children.
It s the seventh year for the biennial garden tour in Holmes County, according to event chairwoman
Eleanor Runyon, noting, after so many years one or two gardeners volunteer to be on the garden
tour, which makes organizing the tour easier.
The amount of work the gardeners do to get ready is staggering, but well worth the effort
considering the outcomes, she said,

Ancient Greek Theatre And Modern Theatre
How Has Ancient Greek Theatre Impacted Modern Theatre?
Theatre! America s favorite pastime! Not quite. Or is it? I would agree that most of us do not think
of spending an afternoon at Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro as fun. However, watching
an episode or two of The Office doesn t sound that bad. What we do not realize is that even though
television, Netflix, and movies are the most prevalent forms of entertainment in today s society, we
would have none of these without the ancient Greeks idea of entertainment: theatre. From ancient
comedy, we have gained stand up comedy, romantic comedy, and just plain forms of comedy
entertainment. From tragedies, we have gained dramas and tear jerkers. Those couple examples and
so many others are just a few ways that our modern day entertainment is similar to the ancient.
The setting of a theatre almost always consisted of stadium style seating with the acts at the
bottom and in the middle. Most plays were open to the public and people were allowed to sit
wherever they wanted. However, important officials and officers usually sat near the front. Their
seats were usually made out of stone to show high status, and the rest were made out of wood.
Like many theatres today, these consisted of the left and right wings, the main floor, a backdrop
which was more or less a curtain, and an orchestra section. Bibler 2
The context of ancient Greek theatre was hugely based on poking fun at politics, religion, and the

Causes Of The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty
Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The
lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust
Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and
part of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds
took the dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy?
How did it contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression?
How did the people of the United Statespersevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go
through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start
of the Dust Bowlwere farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase
profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on.
This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their
crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn
every foot of land into farming land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the
economy, the government provided cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to
take on the job of farming. In order to maximize profit,

Therefore, consumers might visit a retailer to enjoy a mood changing experience, something that
will make them feel good (Hefer Cant, 2013). Visual merchandising is about creating that WOW
experience for consumers as soon as they enter the building. Each display, sign, and store
decoration serves a purpose. And that purpose is to inspire each customer to buy. When creating
visual merchandising ideas, you must think about store spacing. Visual and product
merchandising along with the store layout plays a major role in day to day operations and sales.
Retailers design plan o grams based off maximum sales per square footage. A store floor grid
creates paths for customers which allows the retailer to expose shoppers to many products and
visual check points. The world of visual merchandising started to be used first and introduced as a
differentiated strategy by Bloomingdale Department Store, under the awareness that merchandising
alone could not raise sales, when American department stores were in the economic slump in the

His assumptions for the control variables were as follows: Earnings volatility is to be added to
the equation since the market risk faced by any given firm could have an impact on both its
dividend policy and share price volatility, companies with volatile earnings are perceived as risky
investments and consequently would have a more volatile stock price. Size is to be added to the

information available to their investors about their activities, he also assumed that a smaller
firm s stock would be more liquid than that of a larger firm and consequently would have a more
volatile market price compared to that of a larger firm. Also a firm with a larger and more

those shareholders which would impact the choice of a dividend policy. Growth is to be added to

  • 2. Albert Camus Suffering In Albert Camus The Stranger, the novel centers around the life of Meursault, a French Algerian, who begins the novel attending his mother s funeral. Meursault does not express grief over his mother s death, and treats the day after the funeral as just another day with no nostalgia for what came before. As the novel progresses, Meursault continuously shows this lack of emotion and connection to others in his life, making him a stranger to not only the reader but other characters in the story. When Meursault befriends a neighbor of his, Raymond, and helps him with his cheating Arab girlfriend, he unknowingly gets sucked into a conflict that will affect the rest of his life. A victim of circumstance and choice, Meursault commits a murder, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Stranger acknowledges a different approach to life and reality, one with certainty and emphasis on the individual. In Melissa Payne s Discussion of the Absurd in Albert CamusNovels, Essays and Journals, she describes that Camus desires that man reads this novel and becomes disorientated and divorced from any reality of which he knows. He must recognize that reality means that life exists and death is approaching; Camus believes that these are the only truths, and abstractions no longer exist (Payne 15). In the novel, Meursault knows that his death is approaching in the form of his execution for the murder of the Arab. His crisis arises while questioning his past actions, an exercise out of character with his belief that life is only about present choices and the dawn of the next day. Meursault does not seek to absolve himself by turning to God or asking for forgiveness, but instead, accepts the life he has chosen, freed by the certainty that death was inevitable one way or ... • 3. The Impact Of Tajikistan On The United States Of The... Tajikistan gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and in its short life has already seen considerable amounts of turmoil. When it was first declared a sovereign nation it was plunged very quickly in to civil war. The war led to a quick decline in the nation s economy. This war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan. There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Afghanistan shares a 1,200 km border with Afghanistan and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Latin America Foreign Policy Essay Latin America cannot be categorized as one homogenous block. In spite of sharing multiple aspects culture, language, and history there is not a single standard culture that distinguishes the region. One aspect of Latin American culture, regarding foreign policy, is a prevalent respect for the norm of sovereignty and non intervention. There exists a strong disposition to follow international law as a means to prevent war or at the very least ward off potential intervention by extraregional powers. Accordingly, the factor of self interests and self preservation creates a divergent spectrum of foreign policies within these countries. Thus, there is a unique propensity of domestic politics primarily from those leaders in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A comparative analysis will be made between a legalistic and pragmatic/realistic approaches. Taking into account that each country is independent from each other, and with differing interests, this essay will give multiple reasons as to why such a variety in policy exists. Accordingly, this essay will show a propensity for states to apply the foreign policy development strategy that best fits their needs. Although there may be a sense of preferential treatment for some strategies, Latin American countries are not inherently bound to a specific development scheme. The Legalistic Nature of Latin America Legalism as a cornerstone of Latin American norms has effectively shaped the relationship between how these states relate to each other and the world. According to Arie Kacowicz, it was considered honorable for a country to meet its lawful commitments not divorced from considerations of national interests such as prestige and reputation. When a region s identity relies so much on traditional legacies, the trend is to lean towards the accepted norms that culturally tie the region. In its simplest terms, norms are standards of behavior or laws that oversee the behavior of a societal block. Although, Latin America cannot be studied as a homogenous block, countries in the region vary in their alignment patterns independently of each other in an attempt to pursue self interests. There is, however, enough of a social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Monologue For An Onion By Suji Kwock Kim In the poem Monologue for an Onion by Suji Kwock Kim, an onion speaks to another individual. In the poem The Suitor by Jane Kenyon, the speaker reacts to the recurring presence of a suitor. In each poem, the onion and the suitor represent something else. Through the metaphor of the onion, Kim shows that the onion represents her guarded heart broken into so many pieces that she does not even believe that it is there. Someone tries to love her, but in the end they both end up hurt. In The Suitor the suitor represents a woman who has finally found happiness and stability after many suitors have come and gone from her life. The two metaphors in each poem have meanings that are very similar. The onion represents her heart and the suitor represents happiness. Although they are different they both rely on each other in the poems. Without finding the onion s heart, the man is broken and is unable to find happiness, and the happiness that is given by the suitor comes from him from love inside her heart. A representation of this can be found in The monologue of an onion when it is said you are the one in pieces this man is so distraught at not finding her heart, his heart is breaking into pieces as well. In the suitor it is stated that she is finally happy, and it slowly came as suitors went into her life bringing her love. One major difference between the poems are that, the men in the suitor show their true selves without a problem. In the monologue of an onion it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While research supports the significance of movement in educating both the mind and body, many education institutions do not require physical education in their programs. The athletic programs in schools solely provide children with different ways to learn motor skills, advance fitness, and gain knowledge about physical activity. The physical benefits acquired from establishing a pattern of physical activity in a child s life include disease prevention, reduced morbidity, safety, and increased intellectual health. In a standard United States physical education program, students learn about the health benefits obtained from participating in physically active activities, as well as the importance of continuing these practices throughout life. In elementary school, the athletics program emphasizes the development of fundamental locomotor, non locomotor, and artful skills through dance, gymnastics, and games. The motor skill basis established during elementary years can increase children s social, cognitive, and physical development, and could also increase the individual s interest in physical activities later on in life. Subsequently, in middle school, the physical activities taught in elementary school are usually refined, combined, and applied to sport related activities. However, the expeditious growth in children during this time may affect the student s interests, leading the student to develop diverse fitness elements. • 9. Analysis Of The Book A New Hope Chapter 1 Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It s Not) Response List the five aspects of the QUEST and then apply them to something you have read (or viewed) in the form used on pages 3‐5. A quest must consist of a quester or character pursuing said quest, a destination, justification to journey to that destination, challenges the quester faces along the way and, finally, the true reason for making the journey. A movie that undoubtedly mirrors these components is Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, which follows a young Luke Skywalker who finds himself on a quest, initially to deliver Death Star plans to the planet of Alderaan at the request of the planet s princess and Rebel Alliance leader Leia, and eventually to work with the rebels in order to bring down the Death Star. While at first Luke was resistant to joining jedi master Obi Wan Kenobiin learning the ways of the force and fulfilling the mission, he is quickly motivated by the deaths of his aunt and uncle at the hands of Imperial Stormtroopers. On his journey, Luke faces many struggles such as when the Millennium Falcon, the ship operated by companions Han Solo and Chewbacca, is captured via tractor beam by the Death Star that would eventually lead to the death of mentor Obi Wan. In the end though, Luke, Han and Leia are celebrated in taking down the Death Star, saving the lives of many. Jack London lived a full life, even though he died at the young age of forty. In his life time he experienced many things, and I believe that these experiences were the catalyst of his novels. Jack London was an oyster pirate, a government patrolman in San Francisco Bay, a sailor and an agrarian reformer, a seal hunter in the North Pacific and a gold prospector in the frozen Klondike, a war correspondent and a prizefighting reporter, a socialist soapbox orator who later became a lecturer at universities, a family man and landowner, and of course a true American writer. The revolution ended up progressively getting better, but the communists did not aid in helping. In fact, communist ideas ended up destroying communism. In the 1900s, communism started in China; this ended up not working in the long run. In 1926, the communist party had begun but had gotten no control. If you say yes, this is partially due to the Greensboro Sit Ins and the Civil Rights Movement. Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples Deafness and the Power of Signing When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and again. It is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of the time when they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be overcome. The sign for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger circling up by the forehead instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it means. Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act Local Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) are controversial in nature, because while they pretend to use the excuse to protect the free exercise of religion, intrinsically it is an avenue to attack same sex marriages which have been ruled constitutional by most circuit appellate courts in the United States. Currently the Supreme Court is hearing the cases that might ultimately decide the faith of marriageequality. United States v. Windsor opened the door for most federal appellate jurisdictions and some states to rule that prohibiting same sex marriagewas constitutional, on the basis of the 14th Amendment equal protection clause. Despite this decision, the right to marriage is not an explicit protection addressed by the Constitution, and is often seen as a right delegated to the States under the 10th Amendment. On the other hand the free exercise clause is part of the First Amendment, and protects people from doing things that violate their religious principle, for example a Christian doctor from performing an abortion. The article from New York Times in which Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is an attempt to legitimize that RFRA plays an important place in protecting the free exercise of religion of people and the power to authorize or prohibit same sex marriage rest on the states police powers under the 10th Amendment. This novella mainly satirizes philosophical optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his tutor Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candidelooks to Dr. Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens Candide looks to Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that there is no effect without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country seat was the most beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire, 20). This idea was supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence came from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. To counter the argument that capital punishment is uncivilized, Van Den Haag points out that most civilizations have had the death penalty at some point in their history. After analyzing and evaluating both arguments, I believe that the most reasonable conclusion is that Reiman s argument is stronger; therefore, I also conclude that Van Den Haag s argument is weaker. The first argument that both Van Den Haag and Reiman argue is the deterrent effect and, for lack of evidence, both admit that this argument is only speculation. Van Den Haag s argument on this subject is only lacking in that he didn t consider the possibility of practicing capital punishment cancelling out the deterrent effect of not practicing capital punishment. Introduction According to the OECD (2012) merchant shipping activities remain the pillar of global trade, with more than 80% of international cargo transported via sea. Throughout history, maritime activities have played a vital role in shaping the world, from fishing, to the transport of people during the age of discovery, as well as global trade. With world trade growth being the core driving force behind maritime trade, other factors include; institutional and technological factors, freedom of trade, as well as China s participation in the global economy (World Ocean Review n.d.). As shipping is a derived demand, developments in maritime transport are thus shaped by global macroeconomic trends. The biggest problem in shipping is the ability to forecast long term freight rates, and current tools such as generalized autoagressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) are often aimed at short term correlation. GARCH is an approach which helps describe market volatility (Investopedia n.d.). Freight rates essentially drive the shipping industry in terms of fleet size, and are often a good indication of the strength or weakness of the shipping market. The volatile state of the current market means the accurate need for forecasting and keeping up to date with trends is imperative. The founders of monasticism recognized that secular society functions both to encourage the pursuit of sex, power and possessions and to limit the potential destructiveness of these pursuits . Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory Critical Accounting Theory According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms of accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning it focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said that it is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions of the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant points of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a link between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler. Hatshepsut recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut show her as resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics were suppressed and replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with broad shoulders and a false beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of power. The hieroglyphs on the statue identify her as female, so she was not trying to make people believe she was a male. By representing her bodily figure more similar to males, people would think of her as more powerful and respectful. The plot follows KЕЌsei Arima, Kaori Miyazono and Tsubaki Sawabe as they face teenage problems in love, music, and health. This anime is by far the most depressing series I have ever watched. It s not just sad, it s depressing. It s like watching a group of cursed kids going through traumatic events that will likely make them the most miserable adults possible. The series started with the potential of being one of the great tear jerkers, but they forgot how to give something resembling happiness to keep the story in the light. At times, it feels like the story, and the characters, are about to emerge from the shadows, only to be pulled back deeper, like a swimmer caught in the ocean desperately trying to reach shore as it s swept further away by each crashing wave. Due to the constant dark nature of the story, I found the scenes that should have been emotional just blended into the rest of the story, resulting in a story with very little emotional impact. Although, the final two episodes were so emotional that they cut right through all that sadness, which should tell you how fantastic they were. But two unforgettable episodes does make an unforgettable series. Much of the problem in Your Lie in April stems from the repeated content. His scores in school had been on par with his peers and he had exhibited a propensity for economics; he could have performed quite well in any number of entrepreneurial endeavors. Instead, his knowledge of economics had led him to idealism: he believed wholeheartedly in the value of the free market, and saw no good reason for society s system of market strangulating quasi capitalism through the assessment of people s worth and artificial allotment of resources thereby. In old times, merits were judged not by the government, but by employers, in true free markets. Then I will explain why I do not find these arguments persuasive. The Argument from Design is based upon two basic premises. The first premise is that if something performs a function then it is a product of intelligent design and is produced by the designer in order to serve this purpose. The second premise is that the material universealso includes functional complexity that has the same features. The material universe is full of functions. If something has a function, then it must be complex. If something is complex then it must have an intelligent designer. The argument quite simply states... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having a heterogeneous structure doesn t make something complex. Mount Blanc, for example, should not be considered complex. It does have a heterogeneous structure, but it doesn t serve a particular purpose. If the mountain was rearranged completely it would still be a mountain no matter what order its parts are in. It could have been arranged by mere chance. Living things or things that serve a purpose cannot be arranged by mere chance and still perform their function. However, the results are very different if a living thing is rearranged and its parts are put in a different order. If a living thing is rearranged, it s not likely that it will be able to live let alone function the same. The same results of that of a living thing are applied to complex things that function. If a computer is assembled in random order by chance, the odds are astronomically low that it will function correctly if it functions at all. This same principal is applied to the natural and material world. If it was assembled by mere chance and if the parts were arranged in any different order the odds of it actually functioning correctly are astronomically low. I would agree that most of us do not think of spending an afternoon at Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro as fun. However, watching an episode or two of The Office doesn t sound that bad. What we do not realize is that even though television, Netflix, and movies are the most prevalent forms of entertainment in today s society, we would have none of these without the ancient Greeks idea of entertainment: theatre. From ancient comedy, we have gained stand up comedy, romantic comedy, and just plain forms of comedy entertainment. From tragedies, we have gained dramas and tear jerkers. Those couple examples and so many others are just a few ways that our modern day entertainment is similar to the ancient. The setting of a theatre almost always consisted of stadium style seating with the acts at the bottom and in the middle. Most plays were open to the public and people were allowed to sit wherever they wanted. However, important officials and officers usually sat near the front. Their seats were usually made out of stone to show high status, and the rest were made out of wood. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds took the dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy? How did it contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression? How did the people of the United Statespersevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowlwere farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming land. • 52. Southern Resident Killer Whale The panda of the sea is in danger. The local Southern Resident Killer Whale J,K, and L pods population is disintegrating quickly. This is due to habitat destruction, reproductive issues, and a limited food supply. All of these factors are causing the Southern Resident Killer Whale population in the Pacific Northwest to decrease drastically and now they are a species that is listed under the Endangered Species Act. According to whale researcher Ken Balcomb, The SRKW population was declared Endangered under the US Endangered Species Act in 2005, and earlier this year it was listed as a species in the spotlight by NOAA for its lack of recovery since then (Balcomb). With recent deaths of J28 and her calf J54, many whale activist have been pushing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two types of orca s in the Salish sea, the Transients and the Residents. Transient Killer Whales are mammal eating killer whales. They look almost the exact same as resident orca s, who eat fish. The main difference between the two is the food supply. World wide, Transient killer whales are more heavily populated then the Resident Orcas. This is because they have a bigger food supply. They eat anything from seals to sealions to turtles. While the resident s food supply is much more limited to mainly Chinook Salmon. The local orcas are struggling greatly to get enough food to survive due to the low number of chinook salmon in recent years. This is because the salmons run up stream in the Snake river has been interrupted by four dams along the Snake River. The Snake River has four different types of salmon and All four Snake River salmon and steelhead runs are listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (see Vital Connections under works cited). The salmon numbers have not been bouncing back either after millions of dollars of work has been put into trying to bring back the salmon population in the Snake River. Many whale researchers are pushing to have the removal of four dams along the snake river that are helping kill off the salmon. Many whale researchers believe that the problem with the dam s include The dams have been killing upwards of a million salmon and steelhead annually for 40 years. The dams impede passage of salmon and steelhead between their spawning and rearing habitat and the Pacific Ocean. The dams have inundated Snake River fall Chinook salmon spawning habitat. The dams have disrupted the free flowing Snake River and turned it into a series of slack water reservoirs.Snake River slackwater reservoirs are deadly to salmon and steelhead (see Vital Connections: in works cited).
