A tsunami hit the coast of Thailand on Boxing Day 2004, killing over 230,000 people. A tsunami is a series of waves caused by the sudden displacement of a large body of water, often from earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. Ten years after the 2004 tsunami, tourism in Thailand had returned to pre-tsunami levels. The disaster inspired the film "The Impossible" about one family's experience during the tsunami.

3. How works a tsunami?
A tsunami is a series of waves travelling across the ocean due to
a sudden displacement of a large body of water. This
displacement can be caused by events such as undersea
earthquakes, undersea landslides, land sliding into the ocean,
volcanic eruptions or even asteroid impacts.

● In Boxing Day (26th December) 2004 a tsunami hit the coast
of Asia and killed over 230.000 people.

● Ten years after, the tourism grow it again, arriving at the
same people that was when the tsunami occurred.

● The accident with the tsunami inspired a film directed by
Juan Antonio Bayona, called “Lo imposible” (The Impossible)
based in the experience of María Belón and her family in the
2004 Thailand tsunami.
