A tsunami hit the coast of Thailand on Boxing Day 2004, killing over 230,000 people. A tsunami is a series of waves caused by the sudden displacement of a large body of water, often from earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. Ten years after the 2004 tsunami, tourism in Thailand had returned to pre-tsunami levels. The disaster inspired the film "The Impossible" about one family's experience during the tsunami.
