Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

surfing and music combi events in the UK. The
festival schedule attracts a mixture of genres
and ages.
When it began (1981) it was known as one of the
biggest events of its kind in Europe. Its
reputation has managed to success, and in 2011
it celebrated its 30th anniversary.

The main type of music they play is rock and pop
music.
Plan B, Leftfield, Newton Faulkner and Ricta,
Rudimental, Bastille, clean bandit and 9 more
bands will be performing on the 2015 line-up.
As well as music there is a variety of bars and
fairground rides on the site.

Boardmasters Festival is an annual event
(august) that combines Surf, BMX and Skate
competitions with live music. The live music,
camping and the rest of the festival events take
place at Watergate Bay, whereas the
competitions take place at Fistral Beach.

BOARDMASTERS 2013 has gained a lot of success by
organisers with a record of 45,000 people attending each
day throughout the four-day festival.
It was said that the event would attract fewer people
after it was announced that the surfing competition was
no longer linked to the Association of Surfing
Professionals.
People aged 15 and under must be accompanied by an
adult 18 or over. There is also accessibility for disabilited
people.
