THE ORIGINS OF ROCK
AND ROLL.
 Emerged as a defined musical style in the Southern United States in
the early to mid-1950s.
 It derived most directly from the rhythm and blues music of the
1940s.
 Rock and roll arrived at a time of
considerable technological change,
soon after the development of the electric guitar,
amplifier and microphone.
EARLY ROCK AND ROLL
 Rockabilly: Usually (but not exclusively) refers to the type of rock
and roll music which was played and recorded in the mid-1950s
primarily by white singers such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny
Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis, who drew mainly on the country roots of
the music.

and roll, which emerged in the late 1950s and was
popular until the arrival of beat music in 1962
 Generally been considered inferior to the American
version of the genre.

 Elvis Presley was
rock & roll’s first real star, not to mention
one of the most important cultural forces
in history, a hip-shaking symbol of liberation
for the staid America of the 1950s.
 Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel",
was released in January 1956

 Elvis was known for his pelvis
movements, that was really shocking
for the society of the time.
 Some of the elvis hits are: Money Honey,
I Want You I Need You I Love You, Hound Dog,
Don't Be Cruel and Blue Moon.
THE BEATLES I
 The Beatles were an English rock
band that formed in Liverpool in 1960.
 Its members were John Lennon,
Paul McCartney, George Harrison
and Ringo Starr.
 Rooted in beat, rock and roll and later they experimented with
several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music
to psychedelic and hard rock.
THE BEATLES II
 They got famous for songs like
Twist and Shout, Love Me Do,
Hey Jude,Hard Days Night…
 They released 13 albums
between 1960 and 1970
 According to the RIAA,
the Beatles are the best-selling
music artists in the United States, with 178 million certified units.
BUDDY HOLLY II
 Buddy Holly was an American
musician and singer-songwriter
and a pioneer of rock and roll.
 Holly is described
as "the single most influential creative
force in early rock and roll.
BUDDY HOLLY II
 His works and innovations inspired
and influenced contemporary and later
musicians, notably the Beatles,
the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and
Elvis Costello.
 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson, died in a plane
crash.
