measures to get compensation for damages (Frank, 343).
A positive externality, on the other hand, is an unpaid benefit that expands beyond those directly

aesthetic beauty of which payback other people in the community. Also, when a group voluntarily

These rules are not only a definition. They are linked with a lot more practical issues than this. These
rules also provide protection to rationality in taking decisions in terms of property rules and liability
rules. Liability rules and property rules deal with non Tort applications as well. Law of Tort deals with
the losses people face at work place due to some carelessness or negligence. Non Tort applications of
property rules and liability rules are also common. The implementation originates from Calabresi
Melamed taxonomy. Contract law suggests that creditor has a promise from the debtor. The
entitlement is confirmed by the contract law. To enforce this law through the help of property law, one
needs to have specific performance from the creditor. If this entitlement however is to be protected
only by liability rule, specific performance will not rely on the creditor. The only promise will be to
offer to pay damages and that too by a third party. In many cases there are risks associated with this
kind of deals (Coleman,

The Disaster Of Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was a catastrophic natural disaster in American history. The aftermath had
substantial negative impact on New Orleans and it could have been avoided if proper disaster
management practices were put in place. Therefore, it is important to determine the factors that caused
the hurricane to be catastrophic. One factor that was responsible for the disaster was failure of the
three levels of the government working cohesively (Thiede Brown, 2013). The incoherent interaction
between the three levels of government will be assessed. Another factor that will be examined is social
and psychological refusal of Hurricane Katrina (Thiede Brown, 2013). Lastly, the improper
constriction levees and floodwalls will be addressed (Thiede Brown, 2013). By narrowing down the
substantial factors, the government and public can learn from the disaster management mistakes of
Hurricane Katrina so aftermath effects can be prevented/alleviated in the future. Recommendations for
improving disaster management practices can also be provided and would be beneficial in saving
many lives.
Introduction
Hurricane Katrina is the most expensive natural disaster in American history (Kates et al., 2006). This
is supported by the statistics from August 2006, where the death total surpassed 1836 and the cost of
the destruction was projected to be near $108 billion (Kates et al., 2006). On August 29, it made
landfall in Louisiana as a category 3 Hurricane and its aftermath was devastating

The Overlooked Richness of the Recitatives of Bach s Cantata 78
In Expressivity in the Accompanied Recitatives of Bach s Cantatas, George J. Buelow writes that
although many of the distinguishing properties of Bach s music have been studied over the years, few
scholars have examined Bach s recitatives or have given them proper credit. He notes that these
recitatives generally either are ignored by musical scholarship or are briefly discussed with general
errors or confusion. 1 For example, he cites Jack Westrup as stating that Bach s recitatives are
basically an adaptation of the idioms of Italian opera (19), and he mentions others who term them
improvisatory or unrelated to the text. Buelow asserts that informed ... Show more content on

Some of these instrumentally guided recitatives even contain arioso segments, melodious passages
that may seem out of place in a standard recitative. Two such recitatives that Buelow does not mention
are the intriguing movements 3 and 5 of Cantata No. 78. In the first of these two examples, the arioso
section lasts for the last four and a half bars of the piece and helps show the shift from the sinner s
inner monologue to an outward presentation of his grief to Christ. In the second, the arioso spans the
last dozen andante bars of the piece and illustrates a similar shift from the text s discussion of Christ s
strengthening of mankind through his suffering to an individual s placement of his own suffering heart
before Christ.
To most Baroque theorists, recitatives were simply a form of sung speech, an oration in tones (25).
Buelow points out that while Bach is a skilled rhetorician, he is also unusually sensitive to words in
his recitative style, finding such a variety of musical and rhetorical means to express them, an atypical
accomplishment for the Baroque period (26). Buelow notes several approaches that Bach takes to
express his text as he looks in depth at a specific cantata. Cantata No. 78 reveals similar trends,
demonstrating Bach s expressivity through vocal and instrumental

Burrator Quarry
Burrator is a large rocky peak in Dartmoor National Park, Devon. It can be located at grid reference
553 679 (Stewart, I. 2016) at the southern end of the reservoir and is a designated SSSI. The physical
characteristics of the Upper Burrator Quarry exposes the contact between the Permo Carboniferous
Dartmoor Granite and the surrounding Devonian rocks. The Lower Burrator Quarry shows granite

Grea Great Bosses
LIKE A BOSS
Are you just an average boss or truly a great one?
No doubt there are as many leadership styles as there are the numbers of leaders. However, I bet there
are some people for whom you would immediately work for over and over again.
You ve said things like: love that guy, changed my life, best boss ever.
Are your employees saying the same about you?
With the help of Gallup poll findings, the Harvard Business Review conducted a two year study of the
daily interactions of over 80,000 managers. This comprehensive research uncovered findings of what
brings out employee devotion and optimal performance.
What makes a great boss?
Research found that the ultimate boss separates him/herself from the supervisor herd by focusing on
employee skills and talents. Successful supervisors have an uncanny ability to discover what is
uniquely awesome about each person, capitalize on that individual s talent, and then build teams and
systems around it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Think about it this way. In checkers, the pieces all move the same way and have the same value. In
essence, the game pieces are interchangeable. If you understand checkers, and use a system to align
the pieces, you can get through an eight hour day and grind on.
Now think about the game of chess. Each chess piece has its own value and moves in a different way.
Chess is a game of strategic thinking. It s only by using the unique aspects of each piece and
integrating them into your over game plan that you win in chess.
So, switch your game from checkers to chess and watch your team s performance grow.

The Doctrine Of Predestination
The Doctrine of Predestination is one potential answer to the question of how individuals come to a
saving faith in Christ. Although he did not invent the Doctrine of Predestination, John Calvin has often
been considered its figurehead since the Reformation. This doctrine is defined as the divine decree
according to which certain persons are infallibly guided to eternal salvation. On the other side of the
argument is Arminianism. This view states the Christ died for all of humanity rather than just an elect
percentage. The Arminianist argument states that God s divine sovereignty is compatible with the free
will of humanity. C.S. Lewis argued for and defended the Arminian view. Both sides can present
biblical passages to support their arguments. The fact that the Bible is inconclusive on the matter is
ultimately the source of this dispute. While either Calvin or Lewis could be correct, the truth is likely
an amalgamation of the two.
Although the Bible is ambiguous on the topic of predestination versus free will, one will find a case
for the Doctrine of Predestination in the scriptures. In the Bible, God uses individuals and people
groups to fulfill plans for the world. Noah, for example, was chosen to survive the flood and continue
humanity. God called Abraham from Ur to father the Nation of Israel, God s chosen people in His plan
to redeem creation. In Jeremiah 1:5, the case for predestination is particularly strong when God spoke
to Jeremiah, telling him, before I

In order for you to understand how I did this, I will explain that a z score gives you a way to compare
different sets of data using their standard deviations and averages. In statistics, standard deviation is a
measure that is used to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of data values. A
standard deviation close to zero tells you the data points are close to the mean or average. Having a
high standard deviation shows data points are spread out over a wider range of values. If x is a data
point in a normal distribution, then the equation for the z score of x is x equals x minus the average all
divided by the standard deviation. Normal distribution is just a function that represents the distribution
of many random variables as a symmetrical bell shaped graph. To start off, I made a spread sheet full
of statistics in the program Excel. I listed ten of the leagues top players to calculate their averages and
standard deviations in points, assists, offensive and defensive rebounds. To do this I just used the
Excel function. The players I used were Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Stephen
Curry, Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, James Harden, and Anthony Davis.

child he moved to New York City where his parents were both very involved in the African American
community and the Harlem Renaissance. Bearden attended Lincoln University and then later

Essay On Air Pollution
Background: What is Air Pollution? What is this alarming issue that we all hear about in the news
almost everyday and are being warned about it because about every action of our daily life has an
impact on it? Air pollution is the introduction of foreign particles into the atmosphere that can have
detrimental effects on human, animals, plants and the planet Earth itself (Dalisay, C).
Air pollution not only affects our health but also has huge impact on the well being of the planet we
live on, from it s climate to it s very tiny species.
There are many known elements and contributors to air pollution, however there are more donors to
air pollution which are very tiny but have tremendous effects on health or organisms and the climate
on The Earth. Some notorious contributes to air pollution can come from car exhausts, factories and
fires. However there are other boosters that participate in this harmful and life threatening pollution.
One specific promoter to air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the
air. These particulate matters (PM) come in different sizes such as PM 2.5 and PM 10 and can be
made up of different chemicals. The smaller particulates, PM
2.5, are more dangerous as they are inhalable and can sink into the lungs and enter blood stream.
PM 2.5 is one of the top resulting factors for cancers, respiratory diseases and cardiovascular
concerns. These tiny particulates not only impact human health but also have negative impacts

Sexual Assault In Schools
While a great deal of crimes go unreported in the United States, by far the most common is sexual
assault. While this crime is usually associated with women being the victims, men can also be

fault that the crime happened. The majority of these victims are attending college, and are on campus
when the crime takes place. A multitude of colleges in the past have been pushing sexual assault cases

The Zero Waste Lifestyle Is The Healthiest
With all the pollution and waste in the world people don t think that by doing small things they can
help. Zero waste lifestyles are the way we should be living. They are much more efficient in creating
less trash per household. People should be more conscious to living this way. The zero waste lifestyle
is the smartest way to live and can lead to healthier life. The zero waste lifestyle is the healthiest and
most efficient way to live.
The zero waste lifestyle is very good at reducing the amount of trash each household produces. On
average each household in the US produces 1570 pounds a year roughly 4.3 pounds per day. By
switching to the zero waste lifestyle you can reduce that down to roughly a quart which is equivalent
to four cups. This has been done by Bea Johnson, she lives the zero waste lifestyle way. She is very
smart when it comes to reducing the amount of trash her family creates. She uses glass jars in place of
plastic containers. She made her own reusable shopping bags and she has created many other eco
friendly substitutes. Another woman who is trying to reduce the amount of trash her family produces
is Alicia Ebaugh. Her family only fills one kitchen trash bag full over the course of a year. She says

thing because there was an improvement in sales from the prior year. The next four variances were
favorable ones for the company. Direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, and variable
selling expenses all had favorable variances. This is to be expected as the company sold fewer units
than they had projected for. Competition should be spending less on variable expenses when they are

The Inequality of Women in Leadership Throughout history, the United States have overcome a
number of inequalities and discovered our many freedoms. In the modern age we now live, every
individual should have equal rights. Theoretically we do, but technically there are still areas of
inequality, specifically in business management. Women are facing difficulties in advancing to
leadership positions within most fields, especially in Fortune 500 companies. Female leaders

Chemers perceived that there are three theoretical explanations for the main differences between male
and female leadership. One difference, the most obvious, is biological differences, which is based
around hormones and temperament. The second difference is culturally diversities. This tells that
socialized roles are varied per culture. The final difference is structurally determined. The different
sexs have very diverse organizational structures (Eagly, Makhijani, Klonsky, 1992; Chemers, 2000).
Placing practical differences aside, the essential problem with women leadership roles is actually seen
in the attitudes of those around them. The attitudes people have towards women when they are the
ones making decisions are a perception with no objectivity, formally known as a stereotype.
Stereotyping is one of the main obstacles women endure in their leadership positions. Gender Role
Theory is the development of expectations people create of their own and others behavior based on the
beliefs about what is appropriate for both male and females. For example, if a female were to pull out
a man s chair at a restaurant before seating herself or open his car door before getting in the car, that
would be found as odd behavior for a women.

The Use of Memory Essay
The Use of Memory
Memory is the vital tool in learning and thinking . We all use memory in our everyday lives. Think
about the first time you ever tied your shoe laces or rode a bike; those are all forms of memory , long
term or short. If you do not remember anything from the past , you would never learn; thus unable to
process.
Without memory you would simply be exposed to new and unfamiliar things . Life would be absent
and bare of the richness of it happy or sorrow. Many scientists are still unsure of all that happens and
what and how memory works. They are certain , though , that it is involvement of chemical changes in

393). There are many questions to why people forget . Scientists still do not know exactly how people
forget . Not surprisingly , people forget more and more as time progresses. The chief explanations for
forgetting include interference, retrieval, failure , motivated forgetting, and constructive processes
(Loftus p.
393). Interference occurs when the remembering of certain learned material blocks the memory of
other learned material (Loftus p. 393). Retrieval failure is the inability to recall material or data that
has been stored (Loftus p. 393).
An example of this is when you try to think of a certain date or number , but fail to remember . Later it
will come naturally without any effort. The third reason is a loss of memory caused by conscious or
unconscious desires called motivated forgetting (Stevenson p. 393). Scientists believe that many of us
forget in purpose because we choose to. Motivated forgetting is closely related to a process motivated
by the needs and wishes of the individual called regression (Memory p. 33). A very good example is
when people gamble. When people gamble they choose to remember all the times that they have won ,
and not the times that they lose. The last explanation of forgetting is constructive process. This is
involves the unconscious invention of false memories . Memories became systematically distorted or
changed over a long period

In the dictionary, identity is the state or fact of being the same , yet identity is much more than that (
Identity ). Life is a journey in which people define themselves as an individual in order to develop a

themselves by making choices that are significant and that require a courageous commitment in the

people establish for themselves as supported in the literatures of Brent Staples, Nancy Mairs, and

Analysis Of Ryan s The Flies
Similar to a circle, Ryan s face is rounded just enough for his Aunt to love it. Despite a chubby face
and fingers, his body is small. Fragile. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy learning new
concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A roof is nothing more
than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a door and Ryan has drawn a
squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three. Ryan understands these
concepts, because they re easy to control. Understanding becomes hard when the shapes are replaced
by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people. Why is it hard to be understanding
towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself into someone else s shoes and say they
had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too simpleminded to understand? Or, is it
because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away by someone else s life. If they refuse to
accept my world, then why should I try to understand theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me
from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them,

1. Describe Zailckas introduction, predisposing factors to alcohol; include 2 specific experiences she
had with drinking.
Koren first started drinking at her friend s summer cottage. She was only fourteen when she took her
first sip of alcohol. That first sip changed her life. She had mentioned that her first sip of alcohol was
with her friend Natalie and compared the experience to deflowering, the same way someone does
when they lose their virginity. She did not like her first taste of Southern Comfort, even though the
look and the smell reminded her of apple cider, spicy yet sweet. After that day, Koren s perspective
changed that led her down a very dangerous unhealthy path towards self destruction. Even though the
taste was bad the way it made her feel made her addicted. She liked the way alcohol made her come
out of her quite shell. It made her bolder and daring, which she liked, especially because of the new
friends and the attention it gave her as a result.
Koren grew up in a society that made it more likely for under aged kids to drink. It was almost part of
the norm for some kids. They all encourage it each other to do it. The day Koren took her first drink,
she went to a party and her and her friends passed around a bottle of alcohol; she noticed that most of

Compare And Contrast The Wives Of King Henry Viii
King Henry VIII and his six wives
King Henry VIII was born June 28th, 1491 in the Palace of Placentia in London. He only became king
on April 21st,1509 at the age of 18.Through his lifetime he had six different wives which all either
died from giving birth, being beheaded or just old age. King Henry being old and all and fat would
choose girls as young as 15 to be his queen. Then again there was this law that if you didn t do the
deed then you were not officially married by law.
King Henry VIII first wife, Catherine of Aragon, the former princess of Wales and his dead older
brother Arthur s widow. She got married to King Henry VIII in June 1509 immediately after Henry
became king until 1533. Shortly after she became queen she had a daughter. She later died from
cancer in 1536, although many believed that the king himself poisoned her. This may be because King
Henry was not rather pleased with the fact that he had a daughter because he wanted a son. Shortly
before this King Henry and Catherine had got a divorce so that he could marry Anne Boleyn.
Although, the pope declined and said that he could not divorce her but did it anyway. He thought that
because he was the king he could do anything and that was final.

The Central Park Five Documentary
In one of the most well known cities of the United States, New York City was the central focus in the
1980 s. Five minority youths aged 14 to 16 were arrested and convicted of rape, sexual assault, and
almost murdering 28 year old white female investment banker, Trisha Meili, as she was jogging
through Central Park on the night of April 19th, 1989. These innocent Latino and African American
five young men Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef
Salaam were exonerated in 2002 after serving 6 13 years in prison until the condemned murderer,
Matias Reyes confessed to the rape of Trisha Meili, where his DNA was discovered to match the

It was a time in the city s history to get the perpetrators of the crime committed and to be recognized
as solving the greatest crime of time. Media and public presence played a huge role in pressuring law
enforcement to figure out this awful incident. The demand from the public was pushing from all sides
of this story to get answers.
One thing that struck me while watching this documentar,y was the way that the New York media
sought out the information and relayed it back to the public. They created a humungous turmoil
against the five teenage boys, who they claimed were out wilding running in a wolf pack after their
predators . Mayor Koch stated, this will be a test of the system , regarding for the death penalty. The
public wanted to see how the system would handle such barbaric acts and whether or not they will
give them the death penalty for such crimes . Even multi millionaire Donald Trump wrote a full page
ad in the frontlines, with the headline, Bring Back the Death Penalty, Bring Back Our Police. This
sparked my attention as to what pandemonium was going on in the city during that time. The amount
of discrimination and social tension between classes frustrated me, as I thought, well did the system

Heavy Metal Music Stereotypes
In the documentary the main message is that the music that we listen to has a negative impact on the
way we act and how we think. In my opinion some of the music we listen to can have a very negative
effect on how we view people and some situations that can lead to death or scrutinizing sexuality. For
example in a study, A study performed to explore the possible effect of heavy metal music containing
either sexually violent or nonviolent lyrics on males attitudes toward women revealed that those
exposed to heavy metal music, with either sexually violent or nonviolent lyrics, showed significantly
more negative stereotyped attitudes toward women than those in a group instead exposed to classical
music.Likewise, in a study performed by Fischer and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teamwork Reflection
For our teamwork presentation this week, diving into the concept of teamwork and how to build and
collaborate as an efficient team, we found a different sense of unity and collaboration that we were
unaware of before the preparation for our presentation. For our team s main topics, we covered the
differences between a team and a group, and the vague similarities between the two. From the
textbook comparisons, we consider ourselves a team rather than a group of people because of our
common goals before our presentation date. We were all working together to collaborate and got our
ideas across to the class to present a topic that is both interesting and informative to our fellow
classmates. A team is described as a group of people that all work towards a common goal and have
objectives to work towards together, rather than individuals coming together to perform and complete
their individual goals. The roles that the members of our team performed were a complete
collaboration of ideas and thoughts. We spoke together and did not believe that there was any set
person that performed more or less than others within the group. We each put our thoughts together
and created a lesson plan for the class and broke into where we felt each of our strengths were for the
lesson plan of our presentation. Jordan introduced the chapter and how it was relevant to the class, as
well as concluded the presentation. Alexa brought her teaching skills to light by explaining the activity
through our lesson plan and assigned groups to go to their allotted location around the room.
Following that, Nhi, Meredith and Indrit provided examples of their knowledge for our fellow peers
and giving them a better understanding of the curriculum in the textbook and how we chose to relate it
to our activity in the classroom. All in all, we performed as a team and built our lesson plan based on
our strengths and weaknesses as a collaborating machine in our communication class. The norms that
were established even before our group began, was to ensure that we were all timely about
communicating with one another and to make ourselves available to give us enough time to complete
the presentation in a timely manner. Other norms include constantly being

Ethics Of Embryos
Embryo gene modification is a very controversial topic. Some people believe that it could potentially
provide a valuable way to decrease the chances of genetic diseases at birth, whereas others think that it
could lead to unethical uses such as designer babies . In this essay, I will expand on the arguments put
forward by different people concerning their views on genetic manipulation, and I will also attempt to
put into brief the broad topic of gene editing and artificial fertilisation. The UK Human Fertilisation

permission to genetically edit spare human embryos from women who have undergone IVF. The

the UK? I got two clear answers 60% no; 40% yes. This worried me, because not many people seemed
to be aware of the massive decision that had taken place, which could very well affect them in the
future. The next question I asked got much more variety of answers than the last one. I asked: Do you

The State Council Of The Peoples Republic Of China
The State Council of the Peoples Republic of China violates the Hong Kong Basic Law by
purposefully creating a pro Beijing majority in the Hong Kong Election Committee and thus denies
citizens participation in the election of their Chief Executive. This social injustice forms part of a
larger social justice struggle whereby the autonomy of Hong Kong is slowly being eroded by Central
Government control.
Hong Kong citizens have long been discontent with the Chinese Central Government over concerns
about their long term political freedom. Many believe in the principles set forth by their British
colonisers: capitalism, free trade and freedom of speech. In contrast, China believes in communism by
means of a one party state and censorship. As a result of the huge disparity of social, economic and
political freedoms between Hong Kong and China, Hong Kong citizens have developed their own
sense of national pride, a type of Hong Kong centric identity that celebrates their autonomy from the
Central Government (Leung). Indeed a 2011 poll found that 67% of Hong Kong citizens considered
them Hong Kong people first and Chinese second showing the deep rootedness of the cultural divide
that exists between Hong Kong and China (The University of Hong Kong).
Meanwhile, the People s Republic of China and its citizens have never accepted Hong Kong as a
separate state; the reason for which lies in China s history. When the British won the Opium Wars,
they forced China into an unequal

Special Education And The Civil Rights Movement
Special education is a relatively new concept in education. The question is why? Although, the Federal
Government required all children to attend school since 1918, this did not apply to students with
disabilities. Many state laws gave school districts the ability to deny access to individuals they deem
uneducable. The term uneducable varied from state to state, school to school, and even individual to
individual. If students were accepted into the school, they were placed in regular classrooms with their
peers with no support or in classrooms that were not appropriate to meet their needs. This started to
change with the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. The lawsuit Brown vs the Board of
Education sued to end segregation of public schools laid the ground work for Individuals with
Disabilities Act. The next major impact in education was the enactment of Elementary and Secondary
Act signed into effect by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. The purpose of this law was to provide
fair and equal access to education for all, established higher standards, and mandated funds for
professional development, resources for support education programs, and parent involvement. Under
this law, programs like Head Start were created and celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
Despite additional federal funds and mandatory laws, children with disabilities were unserved or
underserved by public school due to loop holes with in the law. Many more lawsuit followed Brown

more documentation is required of physicians before, during and after a patient visit. This has its pros

Hildegard Alleluia Essay
Egeria is perceived as a mysterious worshipper of her time, around the fourth century. Hildegard of
Bingen is believed to be a twelfth century renaissance woman. Due to time and lack of proper records,
details about Egeria are not well known. However, people speculate that she was a Spanish nun who
lived in the fourth century. Hildegard existed between the years 1098 and 1179 and she was a German
medieval composer (Newman 273). Notably, the musical works of Hildegard are set in a liturgical
way.
Hildegard s Alleluia is a typical plain chant with the main message being unending praises for Virgin
Mary. It is done by a group of soloists who take a lead in turns as the others give responses. The piece
is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement. Notably the single melody has
no accompaniment (Newman 273). Being a sacred text, it is meant to be used during worship and
mostly during feasts to honor Mary especially in the Roman Catholic setting. The work of Hildegard
generally portrays great knowledge and wisdom in the field of music. ... Show more content on

The Rational Irrationality Complex
According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act
irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by
government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen
from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It
appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to
acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the
future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their
key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead
people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of
certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually
to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book
publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This was
particularly so in Europe. But Amazon Kindle and similar tools have made it more acceptable and
popular and studies such s those by PWC (nd) predict incremental but sure growth of the digital book
publishing future. Hermans, for instance, plans to make e books part of her

Night Of The Long Knives Research Paper
In 1934, Adolf Hitler seemed to have control over Germany. New world Encyclopedia states: The
Night of The Long Knives or Operation Hummingbird took place in Nazi Germany between June 30
July 2, 1934 . (Newworldencyclopedia.org). Hitler ordered a purge of his own, assassinating hundreds
of Nazis who he believed could become enemies in the future (History.com).The Night of The Long
Knives occurred because Hitler worried Nazis would become his enemies, so he took out anyone he
believed to be a threat to him including the SA with its leader Ernst Rohm and those loyal to Vice
Chancellor Franz Von Papen, while also seeking to strengthen the Reichswehr, the Germany Military.
In the 1930s the SA helped to bring Hitler to be a powerful man. The Sturmabteilung (SA) operated as
an independent militia and were used by Hitler as intimidation for rivals while also disrupting the

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And, sometimes

whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when

The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above. Another
factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging. Statistics show
that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging being non bio
degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats
to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the
environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the ocean can
also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the organism living there. Even
the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should
be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with

The Importance Of The American Dream In America
The definition of the American Dream is that in America, you have the freedom and the ability to rise
in fame if one works hard enough for it. For years and years, many people from all over the world
came to America just because of the American Dream. These people sought for a better life in a land
where everyone s equal and where they can have an opportunity to become wealthy. Besides seeking
for a better life, these people were running away from their homes due to wars, oppressions, or in
general, regressions in their homeland. As to why these immigrants turned to America for help is
because America was the land of opportunity. America is the land of opportunity because it influenced
immigrants to travel to America in order to seek for a better life and a fresh start. This led to a more

Once You Start Asking Questions Innocence Is Gone By Mary...
Once you start asking questions, innocence is gone, a famous quote by Mary Astor, an American
actress. This quote means that innocence is where you blindly believe what you have been told by
others without questioning their answer. Innocence is also considered to be naive, not knowing a lot of
things. Little kids are considered naive because they just go along with you, tell them and they don t
question what you have said to them. Innocence i would say is also kind of like trust, you have to trust
someone not to question them or argue with them. Innocence is believing what you are told and not
questioning why? or what? Innocence is physical, emotional and social, it all depends on the person. A
person could be physically innocent and not know a lot of about the physical body or about physical
activities. A person could be emotionally innocent, by not know how they feel and choosing to believe
that their feeling are what other people tell them to be. Innocence cannot be regained because once

I ve always been interested in the study of early puberty. Because I was a little girl when I had my first
menarche. I didn t find it something to be happy about because I tended to seem older than I was. I ve
heard many different theories on precocious puberty. But the one that interested me the most was the
one on obesity. I was quite chubby for my age so I always thought that that might have been the
reason why I became a women at an early age. Just accepting it didn t seem enough. When I had to
choose a topic for my EE the first thing that came to my mind was precocious puberty. I read articles
on precocious puberty but those articles didn t really explain how obesity could cause precocious
puberty. I was curious in understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GnRH binds to its receptor on gonadotrope cells, stimulating the biosynthesis and secretion of the
gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). LH and FSH travel
through the peripheral circulation, acting at the gonads to stimulate gametogenesis and
steroidogenesis. Gametogenesis is the development of mature eggs and sperm. steroidogenesis is the
synthesis of the gonadal hormones ‒ estrogen, progesterone, and androgens. In the majority of
physiologic conditions, the gonadal steroids feedback at the hypothalamus and pituitary to decrease

The first option allows you to take 12 free spins, while the other grants you access to 7 re spins. With
two options at hand, you really are spoiled for choice when it comes to bonus features in this game.
Hands on the wheel
Speaking further on the bonus elements in Big Rig, the 12 free spins are easy enough to understand.
During these free spins the wild bonuses are deactivated, but if you can spell out Big or Rig then you
re treated you to a 10x multiplier instead. If you can get both of them to appear during a free spin then
you get your hands on 12 more free spins. Even if you don t spell out anything all of your wins are
still doubled. When you opt to go for the re spins those Big Rig letters stay as stuck wilds, while the
reels spin 7 more times.
Embrace the open highway in Big Rig!
While not everyone is going to love the theme of Big Rig, there are plenty of great features in this
game that ll convince you to give it a go despite a few misgivings. Putting it simply, NuWorks have
managed to take a seldom used theme and create a more than passable online slots game out of it,
which really is a testament to the talents of this up and coming

Antony Flew on Christian Life
People always tend to give high attention to individuals who turned their backs on their once held
beliefs to argue that (Christian) faith is unreasonable and without real substance. Rationality seems to
be the source of every argument for the non existence of God, and is often understood as inherently
opposing to faith. However, the story of Antony Flew is one that atheists can and should not discard,
as he experienced something very different. Born into a Christian family Flew grew up in the church
and was exposed to Christian beliefs and customs. He never really found a personal connection to
Christianity and converted to Atheism, but after decades of arguing the non existence of God, he came
to the conclusion that there is no other possibility than the validity of the existence of God. This
process is documented in There is a God. Antony Flew is considered one of the, some might argue the
most important, proponents of atheism in the 20th century and his works made major contributions to
the argumentation of atheism.
The author begins his personal story, some might call it testimony, with explaining the process of
becoming an atheist in the first place, before rejecting it after all these years. Born as the son of a
Methodist minister and preacher, Flew went to a Christian school, and was, as he calls himself, a
committed and conscientious, if unenthusiastic, Christian (p.10). He did not feel a personal connection
to God and was not interested in any kind of worship.

Psychological Disorder
Psych. 110
Mental Illness
Psychological disorder, also known as a mental disorder, is a pattern of behavioral or psychological
symptoms that impact multiple life areas and/or create distress for the person experiencing these
symptoms (Cherry Kendra). Films could be used as a medium for teaching anyone about psychology,
social work, medicine, nursing, counseling, and even literature. Or media studies about mental illness
and psychopathology (Movies and Mental). As such, I had watched a psychological thriller film in my
earliest day and the film gave an example about psychological disorder. The film was The Number 23.
The Number 23 film was released in 2007, February 23th and directed by Joel Schumacher. The film
starred with Jim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the death of his father made Walter became obsessed with the number, drives him to
murder Laura (Fabrizia), went to the King Edward hotel, wrote The Number 23, and jumped off the
balcony (just like the story about the detective). However, he survived from the fall, but suffered
severe injuries and trauma that caused him to had memory loss. He ended in mental institute, receives
treatment from Dr. Sirius Leary, (Agatha found the ID card of him that led her to abandoned asylum),
and after a few year. Walter was recovering from Dissociative disorder and leaves the institute where
he met Agatha. When he left the institute, Dr. Leary found Walter manuscript, read it, and publishing
it. But, somehow the book made Dr. Leary become obsession with the number 23.
All in all, Walter had accepted of being the killer that he not the man he was and tried to commit
suicide. By being run over by a bus, but steps out of the way at the last minute when he realizes Robin
was watching. Walter walked toward Robin, looked at his eye, cried, and gave his son a hug. Then,
Walter turned himself over to the police and was awaiting a trail that the court would give him a
lightly sentence. This made Flinch a free man and at the end of the film. The film showed the Bible
reading from Numbers 32:23: Be sure your sin will find you out.

Analysis of Third Person Narratives of Two Novels
Ask any author what the most important aspect of their work is (whether that be fiction or not) and
they will all probably say the same four things: plot, setting, characters, and narration. This is also true
for the three novels we have studied thus far in class: Vathek, The Castle of Otranto, and The
Mysteries of Udolpho. The dark gloomth setting, the larger than life characters, and the supernaturally
centered plot lines all make these books Gothic novels, but how would one characterize the narrators?
If there is anything that these three novels we have studied thus far have in common, it is that each of
them have a third person narrator. Andrew Vachss, an American crime fiction author, once said that
The third person narrator, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3 ) Although, The Horse and His Boy is far from a Gothic novel, as it is actually a children s novel, the
similar introduction of the main characters strikes me as something that must be common among
authors who use the Arabian setting for their works. This specific familial introduction of the
particular character by the narrator suggests the nobility of the character and emphasizes that this is a
character that we should know. While the opening descriptions of Vathek can be categorized as
somewhat subjective, especially to the stereotypes of Arabia, The Castle of Otranto s opening lines are
objective. Walpole introduces the characters of the story as simply as possible. The narrator gives no
bias to the characters, he just communicates facts such as that Matilda was a beautiful virgin and
Conrad was sickly:
Manfred, Prince of Otranto, had one son and one daughter; the latter, a most beautiful virgin, aged
eighteen, was called Matilda. Conrad, the son, was three years younger, a homely youth, sickly, and of
no promising disposition; yet he was the darling of his father, who never showed any symptoms of
affection to Matilda (Walpole, 27).
Unlike Vathek which conveys a message of dangerous magic right from the start, the narrator of The
Castle of Otranto gives the reader a much

The Collective Rather Than The Individual Hero
Joanna Russ argues that science fiction is didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather than the
individual hero while, Samuel R. Delany argues that science fiction is a distortion of the present.
However, they both argue that science fiction must be learned, interpreted, and critiqued differently
than other literary texts because it has its own unique conventions.
Joanna Russ s argument that science fiction in didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather than
the hero is in a plethora of works from Delany to H.G Wells. When specifically focusing on the idea
that science fiction is didactic one can look at Einstein Intersection which, like most of Delany s
novels, teaches us about racial/ethnic differences but, within this novel one could even go as far as to
say that it teaches us about the cruel treatment of prisoners and the mentally insane. This is evident
throughout the book when Delany describes the treatment of these nonfunctionals who are kaged
under lower living conditions. The argument that science fiction is didactic is also seen in H.G. Well s
The Star, which teaches us that human skepticism and arrogance will inevitably be our doom. In the
story we are introduced to a mathematician who knows exactly what will happen when the comet gets
to Earth, He looked at it as one might look into the eyes of a brave enemy. You may kill me, he said
after silence. But I can hold you and all of the universe for that matter in the grip of this little

To enforce this law through the help of property law, one needs to have specific performance from the creditor. • 3. The Disaster Of Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina was a catastrophic natural disaster in American history. The aftermath had substantial negative impact on New Orleans and it could have been avoided if proper disaster management practices were put in place. Therefore, it is important to determine the factors that caused the hurricane to be catastrophic. One factor that was responsible for the disaster was failure of the three levels of the government working cohesively (Thiede Brown, 2013). The incoherent interaction between the three levels of government will be assessed. Another factor that will be examined is social and psychological refusal of Hurricane Katrina (Thiede Brown, 2013). Lastly, the improper constriction levees and floodwalls will be addressed (Thiede Brown, 2013). By narrowing down the substantial factors, the government and public can learn from the disaster management mistakes of Hurricane Katrina so aftermath effects can be prevented/alleviated in the future. Recommendations for improving disaster management practices can also be provided and would be beneficial in saving many lives. Introduction Hurricane Katrina is the most expensive natural disaster in American history (Kates et al., 2006). This is supported by the statistics from August 2006, where the death total surpassed 1836 and the cost of the destruction was projected to be near $108 billion (Kates et al., 2006). On August 29, it made landfall in Louisiana as a category 3 Hurricane and its aftermath was devastating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Overlooked Richness of the Recitatives of Bach s Cantata 78 In Expressivity in the Accompanied Recitatives of Bach s Cantatas, George J. Buelow writes that although many of the distinguishing properties of Bach s music have been studied over the years, few scholars have examined Bach s recitatives or have given them proper credit. He notes that these recitatives generally either are ignored by musical scholarship or are briefly discussed with general errors or confusion. 1 For example, he cites Jack Westrup as stating that Bach s recitatives are basically an adaptation of the idioms of Italian opera (19), and he mentions others who term them improvisatory or unrelated to the text. Buelow asserts that informed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these instrumentally guided recitatives even contain arioso segments, melodious passages that may seem out of place in a standard recitative. Two such recitatives that Buelow does not mention are the intriguing movements 3 and 5 of Cantata No. 78. In the first of these two examples, the arioso section lasts for the last four and a half bars of the piece and helps show the shift from the sinner s inner monologue to an outward presentation of his grief to Christ. In the second, the arioso spans the last dozen andante bars of the piece and illustrates a similar shift from the text s discussion of Christ s strengthening of mankind through his suffering to an individual s placement of his own suffering heart before Christ. To most Baroque theorists, recitatives were simply a form of sung speech, an oration in tones (25). Buelow points out that while Bach is a skilled rhetorician, he is also unusually sensitive to words in his recitative style, finding such a variety of musical and rhetorical means to express them, an atypical accomplishment for the Baroque period (26). Buelow notes several approaches that Bach takes to express his text as he looks in depth at a specific cantata. Cantata No. 78 reveals similar trends, demonstrating Bach s expressivity through vocal and instrumental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Doctrine Of Predestination The Doctrine of Predestination is one potential answer to the question of how individuals come to a saving faith in Christ. Although he did not invent the Doctrine of Predestination, John Calvin has often been considered its figurehead since the Reformation. This doctrine is defined as the divine decree according to which certain persons are infallibly guided to eternal salvation. On the other side of the argument is Arminianism. This view states the Christ died for all of humanity rather than just an elect percentage. The Arminianist argument states that God s divine sovereignty is compatible with the free will of humanity. C.S. Lewis argued for and defended the Arminian view. Both sides can present biblical passages to support their arguments. The fact that the Bible is inconclusive on the matter is ultimately the source of this dispute. While either Calvin or Lewis could be correct, the truth is likely an amalgamation of the two. Although the Bible is ambiguous on the topic of predestination versus free will, one will find a case for the Doctrine of Predestination in the scriptures. In the Bible, God uses individuals and people groups to fulfill plans for the world. Noah, for example, was chosen to survive the flood and continue humanity. God called Abraham from Ur to father the Nation of Israel, God s chosen people in His plan to redeem creation. In statistics, standard deviation is a measure that is used to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of data values. A standard deviation close to zero tells you the data points are close to the mean or average. Having a high standard deviation shows data points are spread out over a wider range of values. Not surprisingly , people forget more and more as time progresses. The chief explanations for forgetting include interference, retrieval, failure , motivated forgetting, and constructive processes (Loftus p. 393). Interference occurs when the remembering of certain learned material blocks the memory of other learned material (Loftus p. 393). Retrieval failure is the inability to recall material or data that has been stored (Loftus p. 393). An example of this is when you try to think of a certain date or number , but fail to remember . Later it will come naturally without any effort. The third reason is a loss of memory caused by conscious or unconscious desires called motivated forgetting (Stevenson p. 393). Scientists believe that many of us forget in purpose because we choose to. Motivated forgetting is closely related to a process motivated by the needs and wishes of the individual called regression (Memory p. 33). A very good example is when people gamble. When people gamble they choose to remember all the times that they have won , and not the times that they lose. The last explanation of forgetting is constructive process. In the six years of his life he has come to enjoy learning new concepts. He understands that to draw a house he must start with a square base. A roof is nothing more than a triangle on top. Add two squares for Windows and a rectangle for a door and Ryan has drawn a squiggly lined house. Red. Yellow. Green. One plus two equals three. Ryan understands these concepts, because they re easy to control. Understanding becomes hard when the shapes are replaced by feelings, and the colors and numbers are replaced by people. Why is it hard to be understanding towards one another? How come it is difficult to put myself into someone else s shoes and say they had every right to mock me. Could it be because I am too simpleminded to understand? Or, is it because I am too unwilling to let myself be carried away by someone else s life. If they refuse to accept my world, then why should I try to understand theirs? It s that kind of thinking that keeps me from truly enjoying life. When I fail to see the rough aspects in others lives, it not only makes them, but also me, feel frustrated as well. I know how it feels to be unheard. Koren first started drinking at her friend s summer cottage. She was only fourteen when she took her first sip of alcohol. That first sip changed her life. She had mentioned that her first sip of alcohol was with her friend Natalie and compared the experience to deflowering, the same way someone does when they lose their virginity. She did not like her first taste of Southern Comfort, even though the look and the smell reminded her of apple cider, spicy yet sweet. After that day, Koren s perspective changed that led her down a very dangerous unhealthy path towards self destruction. Even though the taste was bad the way it made her feel made her addicted. She liked the way alcohol made her come out of her quite shell. It made her bolder and daring, which she liked, especially because of the new friends and the attention it gave her as a result. Koren grew up in a society that made it more likely for under aged kids to drink. It was almost part of the norm for some kids. They all encourage it each other to do it. The day Koren took her first drink, she went to a party and her and her friends passed around a bottle of alcohol; she noticed that most of the girls she was surrounded by were confident about what they were doing and she was certain that it was not their first time. • 25. Teamwork Reflection For our teamwork presentation this week, diving into the concept of teamwork and how to build and collaborate as an efficient team, we found a different sense of unity and collaboration that we were unaware of before the preparation for our presentation. For our team s main topics, we covered the differences between a team and a group, and the vague similarities between the two. From the textbook comparisons, we consider ourselves a team rather than a group of people because of our common goals before our presentation date. We were all working together to collaborate and got our ideas across to the class to present a topic that is both interesting and informative to our fellow classmates. A team is described as a group of people that all work towards a common goal and have objectives to work towards together, rather than individuals coming together to perform and complete their individual goals. The roles that the members of our team performed were a complete collaboration of ideas and thoughts. We spoke together and did not believe that there was any set person that performed more or less than others within the group. We each put our thoughts together and created a lesson plan for the class and broke into where we felt each of our strengths were for the lesson plan of our presentation. Jordan introduced the chapter and how it was relevant to the class, as well as concluded the presentation. Alexa brought her teaching skills to light by explaining the activity through our lesson plan and assigned groups to go to their allotted location around the room. Following that, Nhi, Meredith and Indrit provided examples of their knowledge for our fellow peers and giving them a better understanding of the curriculum in the textbook and how we chose to relate it to our activity in the classroom. All in all, we performed as a team and built our lesson plan based on our strengths and weaknesses as a collaborating machine in our communication class. The norms that were established even before our group began, was to ensure that we were all timely about communicating with one another and to make ourselves available to give us enough time to complete the presentation in a timely manner. The State Council Of The Peoples Republic Of China The State Council of the Peoples Republic of China violates the Hong Kong Basic Law by purposefully creating a pro Beijing majority in the Hong Kong Election Committee and thus denies citizens participation in the election of their Chief Executive. This social injustice forms part of a larger social justice struggle whereby the autonomy of Hong Kong is slowly being eroded by Central Government control. Hong Kong citizens have long been discontent with the Chinese Central Government over concerns about their long term political freedom. Many believe in the principles set forth by their British colonisers: capitalism, free trade and freedom of speech. In contrast, China believes in communism by means of a one party state and censorship. As a result of the huge disparity of social, economic and political freedoms between Hong Kong and China, Hong Kong citizens have developed their own sense of national pride, a type of Hong Kong centric identity that celebrates their autonomy from the Central Government (Leung). Indeed a 2011 poll found that 67% of Hong Kong citizens considered them Hong Kong people first and Chinese second showing the deep rootedness of the cultural divide that exists between Hong Kong and China (The University of Hong Kong). • 30. Special Education And The Civil Rights Movement Special education is a relatively new concept in education. The question is why? Although, the Federal Government required all children to attend school since 1918, this did not apply to students with disabilities. Many state laws gave school districts the ability to deny access to individuals they deem uneducable. The term uneducable varied from state to state, school to school, and even individual to individual. If students were accepted into the school, they were placed in regular classrooms with their peers with no support or in classrooms that were not appropriate to meet their needs. This started to change with the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. The lawsuit Brown vs the Board of Education sued to end segregation of public schools laid the ground work for Individuals with Disabilities Act. The next major impact in education was the enactment of Elementary and Secondary Act signed into effect by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. The purpose of this law was to provide fair and equal access to education for all, established higher standards, and mandated funds for professional development, resources for support education programs, and parent involvement. Under this law, programs like Head Start were created and celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. The piece is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement. Notably the single melody has no accompaniment (Newman 273). • 34. The Rational Irrationality Complex According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This quote means that innocence is where you blindly believe what you have been told by others without questioning their answer. Innocence is also considered to be naive, not knowing a lot of things. Little kids are considered naive because they just go along with you, tell them and they don t question what you have said to them. Innocence i would say is also kind of like trust, you have to trust someone not to question them or argue with them. Innocence is believing what you are told and not questioning why? or what? Innocence is physical, emotional and social, it all depends on the person. A person could be physically innocent and not know a lot of about the physical body or about physical activities. A person could be emotionally innocent, by not know how they feel and choosing to believe that their feeling are what other people tell them to be. Innocence cannot be regained because once you begin to question everything and everyone around you, that habit just stays and is hard to get rid of. Even though you may not say the ... Innocence is not purposefully meant to be about not knowing things, it could be genuinely something a person doesn t understand. Innocence is not the same for everyone, it depends on the person and who they are as a person and it is not good to be innocent and it is also not bad to be innocent. Everything depends on your personality, character, and surroundings. Innocence in daily lives is significantly different to innocence in a court/jail. • 42. Precocious Puberty I ve always been interested in the study of early puberty. Because I was a little girl when I had my first menarche. I didn t find it something to be happy about because I tended to seem older than I was. I ve heard many different theories on precocious puberty. But the one that interested me the most was the one on obesity. I was quite chubby for my age so I always thought that that might have been the reason why I became a women at an early age. Just accepting it didn t seem enough. When I had to choose a topic for my EE the first thing that came to my mind was precocious puberty. • 44. Antony Flew on Christian Life People always tend to give high attention to individuals who turned their backs on their once held beliefs to argue that (Christian) faith is unreasonable and without real substance. Rationality seems to be the source of every argument for the non existence of God, and is often understood as inherently opposing to faith. However, the story of Antony Flew is one that atheists can and should not discard, as he experienced something very different. Born into a Christian family Flew grew up in the church and was exposed to Christian beliefs and customs. He never really found a personal connection to Christianity and converted to Atheism, but after decades of arguing the non existence of God, he came to the conclusion that there is no other possibility than the validity of the existence of God. This process is documented in There is a God. Antony Flew is considered one of the, some might argue the most important, proponents of atheism in the 20th century and his works made major contributions to the argumentation of atheism. The author begins his personal story, some might call it testimony, with explaining the process of becoming an atheist in the first place, before rejecting it after all these years. Born as the son of a Methodist minister and preacher, Flew went to a Christian school, and was, as he calls himself, a committed and conscientious, if unenthusiastic, Christian (p.10). He did not feel a personal connection to God and was not interested in any kind of worship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychological Disorder Psych. 110 Mental Illness Psychological disorder, also known as a mental disorder, is a pattern of behavioral or psychological symptoms that impact multiple life areas and/or create distress for the person experiencing these symptoms (Cherry Kendra). Films could be used as a medium for teaching anyone about psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, counseling, and even literature. Or media studies about mental illness and psychopathology (Movies and Mental). As such, I had watched a psychological thriller film in my earliest day and the film gave an example about psychological disorder. The film was The Number 23. • 46. Analysis of Third Person Narratives of Two Novels Ask any author what the most important aspect of their work is (whether that be fiction or not) and they will all probably say the same four things: plot, setting, characters, and narration. This is also true for the three novels we have studied thus far in class: Vathek, The Castle of Otranto, and The Mysteries of Udolpho. The dark gloomth setting, the larger than life characters, and the supernaturally centered plot lines all make these books Gothic novels, but how would one characterize the narrators? If there is anything that these three novels we have studied thus far have in common, it is that each of them have a third person narrator. Andrew Vachss, an American crime fiction author, once said that The third person narrator, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3 ) Although, The Horse and His Boy is far from a Gothic novel, as it is actually a children s novel, the similar introduction of the main characters strikes me as something that must be common among authors who use the Arabian setting for their works. This specific familial introduction of the particular character by the narrator suggests the nobility of the character and emphasizes that this is a character that we should know. While the opening descriptions of Vathek can be categorized as somewhat subjective, especially to the stereotypes of Arabia, The Castle of Otranto s opening lines are objective. Walpole introduces the characters of the story as simply as possible. The narrator gives no bias to the characters, he just communicates facts such as that Matilda was a beautiful virgin and Conrad was sickly: Manfred, Prince of Otranto, had one son and one daughter; the latter, a most beautiful virgin, aged eighteen, was called Matilda. Conrad, the son, was three years younger, a homely youth, sickly, and of no promising disposition; yet he was the darling of his father, who never showed any symptoms of affection to Matilda (Walpole, 27). Unlike Vathek which conveys a message of dangerous magic right from the start, the narrator of The Castle of Otranto gives the reader a much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Collective Rather Than The Individual Hero Joanna Russ argues that science fiction is didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather than the individual hero while, Samuel R. Delany argues that science fiction is a distortion of the present. However, they both argue that science fiction must be learned, interpreted, and critiqued differently than other literary texts because it has its own unique conventions. Joanna Russ s argument that science fiction in didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather than the hero is in a plethora of works from Delany to H.G Wells. When specifically focusing on the idea that science fiction is didactic one can look at Einstein Intersection which, like most of Delany s novels, teaches us about racial/ethnic differences but, within this novel one could even go as far as to say that it teaches us about the cruel treatment of prisoners and the mentally insane. This is evident throughout the book when Delany describes the treatment of these nonfunctionals who are kaged under lower living conditions. The argument that science fiction is didactic is also seen in H.G. Well s The Star, which teaches us that human skepticism and arrogance will inevitably be our doom. In the story we are introduced to a mathematician who knows exactly what will happen when the comet gets to Earth, He looked at it as one might look into the eyes of a brave enemy. You may kill me, he said after silence. But I can hold you and all of the universe for that matter in the grip of this little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
