The Issue Of School Security
There has been an unfortunate amount of tragic school shootings in the last ten years developing an
atmosphere where gun activists and safety advisors have been feeding on every event that takes place.
When these catastrophic events transpire, reality s morals are questioned; what is considered safe?
Among the emerging trials of appalling bloodshed, society deems it as a commendable time as any to
make a change. In the result of such events, the issue of school security and pressures to student
protection have been meticulously picked apart in virtually every medium. Thoughts and outrage
trickle down a ceaseless tributary making its way to platforms like websites and television in hopes
that it flows far enough to grace government shores. In this paper, I will discuss what has sparked
transformation in regards to camps safety and how these changes affect students and faculty.
The exponential growth of violence and the ever increasing personal entitlement of individuals have
law makers working rigorously to appease the public. The second amendment in the U.S Constitution
reads, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to
keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Over time, this amendment will trigger much debate. It will
cause multiple vacillating iterations of the right to expand its impact and to control it. In 1986, the
public was introduced to The Firearm Owner s Protection Act. Other than age and licensing

Incentives are seen everywhere in daily life and they appear in a variety of ways. Whether a person is
making a choice between what to eat for lunch or when to go to bed, they are being influence by
incentives. For example, images of an appealing lunch meal in a TV commercial may make someone
choose Subway over Mcdonalds. However, the same thought process can motivate someone to prefer
a meal at McDonalds because of the company s constant promotion of their dollar menu (Mcdonalds,
2013). Either of these incentives can appeal to a person, depending on what they are motivated by, in
this case, either health or money.
The Bible is full of different forms of incentives. Some people can skim the Bible and note its major
incentive; the opportunity for eternal life. However a deeper knowledge of what God says shows
many more incentives. Other incentives are exemplified in the Bible: believers have faith which gives
them peace (Romans 5:1), faith leads to loving the Creator and experiencing His love (Psalms 85:10),
and the knowledge of right and wrong gives an opportunity for forgiveness (Acts 2:38). All of these
reasons for believing the Bible, along with many more, can motivate a person to choose that specific
approach to life.
In its essence, an incentive is a deliberate proposal calculated to make a person choose a certain
action. Thus, the reason why incentives are so popular in society is because everything and

GPHY 384 Term Paper

Geographic information science and systems can be an extremely powerful tool when properly applied
to real world situations. GIS is commonly thought of as map making because it deals with spatial
analysis, but data can be managed and manipulated to create a vast array of different outputs including
charts and graphs. There are several software programs capable of dealing with GIS synthesis and
analysis. The focus of this paper applies to use of ArcMap 10.1 GIS software for data management
and output creation. GIS can provide several key benefits: cost savings from better efficiency, better
decision making, improved communication, better record keeping, and understanding changes in

Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Summary
All beings require a degree of freedom to truly live, as such, caged animals are often subjected to a life
subpar to truly living. Consequently, this rule applies to humans as well, and unfortunately enough,
most humans in our era fail to live. In the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, Dunbar seeks to
explore this sullen connection with the speaker and a caged animal feels by utilizing repetition and
metaphor.
The first stanza begins with the primary metaphor of the caged bird. In this line, the speaker states that
he knows what the caged bird feels (line 1). Under the assumption that the speaker, like most people,
cannot speak to animals, his understanding of the bird s feelings must come from inference from
observation. Dunbar goes onto depict a beautiful landscape of the birds natural habitat. However, the
feelings of the depiction are clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bird s mania manifests in vain attempts on breaking the bars of his cage with his body. Beating its
body against the bars until he bleeds red, (line 9) the bird would almost prefer death to this life if it
were not for the vague prospect of release. Towards the end of the stanza, the tale of the caged bird
thickens as his old scars... pulse... with a keener sting (line 12 13). This line shows that the bird is not
simply trying to fly away without understanding the limits of the change, the bird seems to represent
the spirit of a stallion rejecting the enforced domestication of its captors.
The last stanza summarizes the predicament of the cage bird, and the odd act which the caged bird
commits, the caged bird sings (line 15). However, singing often represents joy Dunbar clarifies that
this singing is in prayer. After beating himself against the bars he resigns his broken body to sing and
pray for success, reaching to a higher power for

The Importance Of Behavioral Genes
A number of recent twin studies have shown that our genes, to a surprising extent, influence behavior.
Even matters that naturally seem to be a reflection of one s personal experiences, such as political
stance or religious views, have been proven by various studies to be largely controlled by genetics
(Times Higher Education, 1997). Researchers at the University of Minnesota launched the Minnesota
Twin Family Study in 1979, in which over a period of 20 years, they studied 137 pairs of twins 81 of
which were identical. Through this study, researchers found that about 70% of IQ variation across the
twin population was due to genetic differences among people (LiveScience, 2014); a more recent
study in 2009 also supported this. Behavioural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each child observed the model playing with a Bobo Doll, then were individually sent into a room with
the same doll and a variety of aggressive toys (e.g. hammers, dart guns) and non aggressive toys (e.g.
tea sets, crayons). Children who observed the aggressive model made far more imitative aggressive
responses than those who were in the non aggressive or control groups (S. Mcleod, 2014). There was
little difference in the verbal aggression between boys and girls. These findings support Bandura s
Social Learning Theory that children learn social behavior such as aggression through the process of
observation learning through watching the behavior of another person. Famous anthropologist,
Margaret Mead, studied a number of different tribal cultures throughout the 1930s. Of these studies
one of her most famous was her study of three different New Guinean tribes, The Arapesh,

Westerners. The table below details the differences between these tribes. ARAPESH

Ctx And Osteoporosis
CTX and NTX are collagen degradation products from the C terminal and N terminal regions on the
cross links in type 1 collagen (Kujath 2011). The CTX consists of two isomeric forms, the native
(αCTX) and the age related (ß CTX) (Chopin et al. 2012; Seibel 2005). Bone resorption by osteoclasts
is overwhelmingly a cathepsin K driven process and metalloproteinase play an important but small
role in the resorption process; Only cathepsin K produces CTX and NTX fragments whereas only
metalloproteinase produce ICTP fragments (Rissanen 2013). This is a measure of the breakdown of

A Primitive Civilization In A Failed Utopia Essay
A Primitive Civilization In A Failed Utopia
Symbolism can be used to represent many aspects of a person place or thing. Throughout the novel the
boys lose all symbols that represent there civilization such as there clothes and uniforms. In this novel
symbolism is used to show how the boys change their outlook on their primitive society and rules.
They are used in the novel Lord of the Flies to show the deterioration and destruction of the boys
society and rules. The conch, the glasses and the masks all have a greater meaning in the novel.
The conch is used throughout the novel Lord of the Flies to symbolize law and order of the adult

At the beginning of the novel the conch represents law and order. As the boys split apart the conch
becomes less important and is eventually destroyed. After all this happens Ralph s small tribe is also
destroyed. The conch is used to represent law, order and society in the same way that Piggy s glasses
are used.
The glasses represent logic, order and hope. Piggy defends the glasses more than the conch because he
believes logic is more important than order. Then, with the martyred expression of a parent who has to
keep up with the senseless ebullience of the children, he [Piggy] picked up the conch, turned toward
the forest, and began to pick his way over the tumbled scar. (p38, narrator). This shows how piggy
thinks of things first. Without logic there would be no order. The glasses are a sign of hope for the
boys. They use the glasses for fire, there rescue signal, to cook there food and for light to protect them
from the beastie at night. his specs, use them as burning glasses! (P40, Jack). They all work together
in the beginning but the boys slowly lose interest in the fire as different things start to become for
important such as hunting and playing. They let the bloody fire out... ( p71, Ralph). Ralph says this
after the ship, their only hope for rescue goes unseen. Only a few boys remain loyal. The glasses
symbolize logic but the masks the boys wear create an excuse not to be logical and civilized.

Much nineteenth century verse is portrayed as neoclassical. This was the significant style utilized

From how Joanna was described in the novel, we can see that she liked the past more than the present.
She wanted to preserve the old traditions she grew up with. The example of that would be her love
life. When she fallen in love with the first curate, he didn #8217;t return her feeling and she
#8220;...had decided that this was to be the only love of her life #8221; (22). She didn #8217;t return
the feelings of the second curate, who loved her, because she had #8220;...the notion that a nice girl
should only fall in love once in her life #8221; (23). Another example would be her ideas about the
Prayer Book. Nancy Riddle, one of Joanna #8217;s students, mentioned that the Prayer Book was
#8220;...out of date #8221; (99) to which Joanna answered: #8220;The Prayer Book is wonderful.
There was a new version got up in 1928, but Parliament put it out. Just as well, as it happened #8221;
(101). It is obvious that she wanted to leave everything just as it was before. Probably that is the
reason why Joanna died at the end of the book. After the bomb exploded, the fireworkers were trying
to rescue girls, who were trapped in the club from the window at the roof. Joanna was the last to
climb, but she #8220;...stooped to pick up the tape measure which was lying on the floor #8221;

Why Creationism Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools...
A hotly debated topic concerning public schools centers on the origin of life. Now more than ever,
science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex
Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the origin
of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists and
creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions of the
courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools. Despite
an overwhelming number of individuals in favor of teaching creationism in public education, science
classes should refrain from becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state.
Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting
critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion, emphasizing
that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical thinking (5). As a
result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce other scientific theories
dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies to all area of academics,
many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter seems indicative of a
totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce students to as many
alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present must have factual
ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky ground scientifically, it
should have no place in science education classes.
Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that
evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. Yet, he
explains, a campaign against those theories in courtrooms is, in essence, nonexistent (140).

If class is missed for personnel reasons, I will not offer make up of participation points. Due to the
interactive format of MBA 520, Transformational Leadership, your participation and attendance is
critical. By the way of clarification, no set number of points will be docked from your course grade as
a result of tardiness. Conversely, each student s participation score will fall on a sliding scale that is
impacted by two variables; namely attendance and meaningful class discussion. Participation points
are earned by maximizing your time in class and actively contributing to class dialogue. Recognize
that missing class or not being properly prepared for class adversely affects your ability to contribute
to meaningful class discussion, lowering your ability to earn participation points. Late Assignments I
accept late assignments; however, each late assignment will be penalized with a 10% grade deduction
for each day late, unless you have made prior arrangements with me. Assignments are due by 11:59
p.m., the day after class meets. For this class, that would be11:59 p.m. on Fridays. If I do not receive it
by that time, the assignment is considered late. Additionally, late assignments are not accepted for

Two Point Discrimination Lab Report
Exercise 3: Two point discrimination The two point discrimination experiment explored how the
density of tactile receptors varies across the body. The experimenter utilized an unfolded metal paper
clip bent in a U shape and touched the two points of it to one of the areas tested (palm, back of hand,
fingertip, back of forearm, back). The subject looked away and noted whether she felt one or two
points of the paper clip. The experimenter continued to widen the distance between the two ends of the
paper clip until the subject perceived two distinct points of the paperclip on the body. The subject
perceived two points most easily on the fingertip (3mm) and less readily on the back (16mm) (Table

The temperature sensing component of thermoreceptors are transient receptor potential proteins

and thus a colder water bin would be necessary to elicit a perception of cold after adaptation. When
the subject placed both hands in the room temperature bin, the left hand that was exposed to cold
water perceived the room temperature bin as warm because the change in temperature was strong
enough to induce the desensitized thermoreceptors to fire increased rates of action potentials. The

Comparing The Gospel Of Mark And Matthew
In regard to teaching style, the extent to which Jesus teaches by authority varies in the Gospel of Mark
and Matthew. Jesus teaching style in Matthew is overall more authoritative. Both Mark and Matthew
tell that Jesus taught as one having authority, and not as their scribes (Matthew 7: 28 29, Mark 1: 22).
In the Gospel of Matthew, the authoritative phrase But I say to you appears 12 times in the Sermon on
the Mount. However, such a repetitive and declarative phrase is not commonly seen in Mark.
Other than the extent to which Jesus taught by authority, a common feature of Jesus teaching style in
both Mark and Matthew is his use of repetition. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks of imminent
tortures and resurrection over and over

Edmund Burke Codebreakers Essay

Mrs. Gahagan
English 8 Honors
20 March 2017
Red Embers During World War II, gifted codebreakers in Hut 8, a division in the Government Code
and Cypher School, decrypted the German U Boat codes, shortening the war by an estimated two
years and saving approximately 14 million lives (Cashill). The decisions that the codebreakers made
were cold, logical, and difficult to make, but the amount of lives they saved was well worth the effort.
Normal people also face tough decisions in their lives, one of them being stepping in or standing on
the sidelines, and they have their own thoughts on the responses necessary to take the right action.
Edmund Burke is no different. Burke, an Irish statesman and author born in 1729, is well known for

girl, is in Strawberry with her grandma, she bumps into Lillian Jean, a white girl, and Lillian Jean s
dad orders Cassie to call his daughter Miz Lillian Jean (71). When Cassie does, she [flees] crying into
the back of the wagon and feels that no day in all [her] life [has] ever been as cruel as this one (71).
Cassie is mentally wounded through her traumatizing experience of being insulted and forced to call a

Gregor Mendel Differences
Gregor Mendel once said, My scientific studies have afforded me great gratification; and I am
convinced that it will not be long before the whole world acknowledges the results of my work.
Mendel was a well educated man who gravitated towards physics and math. His research was
conducted over roughly 10 years(Gregor Mendel Botanist, Scientist Biography.com. (n.d.). Retrieved
October 24, 2016, from http://www.biography.com/people/gregor mendel 39282#!). Gregor Mendel is
the reason we now know why our skin is a certain color, why our eyes are brown or blue, and why we
share similarities with our parents. Mendel s experiments are relevant because he proved his laws. To
begin with, there are two main observations Mendel made during his experiments. The first thing he
learned was that traits are inherited as discrete units, meaning the differences are clear to the naked
eye. He also discovered what is now called the Law of Segregation or Mendel s first law, ... Show

every case but if a person has the genotype Bb and another has bb the ratio of your offspring is two to

Real estate deals not only with the architectural design and infrastructure of a building but also with its
finance and potentiality. It is an area that is highly influenced by the population density, income
generation and tastes of the people and economic growth of a country under different period of time.
Real Estate Finance System in Bangladesh:
The housing finance sector in Bangladesh is both underdeveloped and highly segregated.
Private construction finance:
The predominant way of financing is through landowner and developer self finance, e.g., by selling
part of the land parcel or other land and subscribing the housing development fully before construction
starts. Buyers of individual units in multifamily apartments have to put down a 25 or more percent
advance and the unit has to be paid for in a few large installments before the house is completed. This
type of financing arrangement is difficult for all but the highest income groups in the absence of
mortgage financing.
Public construction finance:
After the failed attempt to stimulate BHBFC to lend for lower cost housing developments the Prime
Minister‟s Office recently established a Housing Fund called the Grihayan Project, which provides
low cost funds to NGOs and public sector developers for the construction of low to moderate income
housing schemes. The Housing Fund is administered by an inter ministerial committee of 17 members
and includes one NGO

Theories Of Biocentric Egalitarianism
Paul Taylor, a professor at Brooklyn college, is known for his theory of biocentric egalitarianism.
Biocentric Egalitarianism is the notion that all living beings have equal inherent worth in that each is a
goal directed system pursuing its own good (VanDeVeer 21). Taylor emphasizes a life centered
approach to environmental ethics, as opposed to an anthropocentric human centered approach. He
argues that it is the good of individual organisms, considered as entities having inherent worth, that
determines our moral relations with the Earth s wild communities of life (201). We as humans have a
duty to all plants and animals as they are also members of the biotic community. The well being of
species, including human beings, is something to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These methodologies have the possibility to act as the groundwork for official policy solutions. This
aspect sets Taylor apart from other environmental ethicists who tend to remain the abstract realm. In
terms of his approaches, for me I see the most applicability in the principle of minimum wrong. Many
times, the interests of humans and nonhumans are directly competing with each other. This, in our
current state, seems unavoidable. But if we approach these situations with the minimum wrong
mentality, we can hopefully search for the most environmentally beneficial solutions and avoid
ecological catastrophe. This principle is especially important due to the fact that we are still not fully
aware about how the systems of plants and animals work. For example there have been movements to
assign plants specifically some sentience and mentality, however these movements have been
traditionally denied (Plants as Persons). Especially with experiments as demonstrated in Plant
Thinking that identified existential features of plant behavior and the vegetal heritage of human
thought, now more than ever we need to respect non biotic creatures as they may be more
intellectually complex than we have

Potato Osmosis Lab Report
I was able to determine which solution corresponded to which molarity by my knowledge of how
water osmosis from high concentrations of water to low concentrations of water. I determined solution
D to be the lowest molarity of 0.0 moles because the potatoes that were immersed in this solution had
the highest average percent increase in mass of 23.08%. Since there is a small amount of sugar in the
potato cores and the potato cores gained a large amount of mass, that must mean that there was a
higher concentration of water or a hypotonic solution outside the potato cores because the water
osmosed from high water concentration into low water concentration. Since the potato cores gained
the most mass, it must mean that there was the greatest amount ... Show more content on

The solution outside the cores must have been hypertonic and inside must have been hypotonic,
causing the water to osmose out of the cores. I knew there must have been more sucrose than solution
A because there decrease was greater, meaning that the outside solution was more hypertonic, causing
more water to need to leave the core to create an isotonic environment. I determined that solution E
contained 0.8 moles of sucrose because the cores immersed in it had the next largest decrease in mass.
This shows that the solution must have been even more concentrated or hypertonic causing more
water to leave to create an isotonic environment. I determined that solution B contained the largest
amount of sucrose with 1.0 moles. This was because the cores immersed in it had the largest decrease,
which means that the solution outside of the core must have been the most hypertonic which means it
must have had the most amount of sucrose. I knew this because the most water left these potato cores

close. They planned a trip to the forest of cedars to defeat the monster known as Humbaba so that
Gilgamesh could show his power to the citizens of Uruk. However, Enkidu tried vainly to dissuade

Inflation And Unemployment Essay
Abstract
The main aim of this study is to investigate the existence of trade off relationship between inflation
rate and unemployment rate in Namibian economy between 1991 and 2014 the perspective of Phillips
curve by using the Ordinal Least Square (OLS) method. The results of Augmented Dickey Fuller test
shows that all variables are stationary at level and the integration test shows that they integrated at
level I(0). The analysis result shows the negative relationship between inflation rate and
unemployment rate in short run as it was expected. But, in the long run the estimated results shows a
positive relationship between inflation rate and unemployment rate in Namibia which is consistent

Chapter one
Introduction
For years now economist have been debating about inflation and unemployment whether it is possible
to achieve both of this main macroeconomic goals , which is low inflation and low unemployment in
the economy at the same time without harming the economy. In this case it remains one of the
challenge that face most of developing countries that include Namibia, to sustain the low inflation and
low unemployment rate. Philips curve was emerged in 1960 in United Kingdom, was named after A.
W. Philips the founder of Philips curve. Philips curve suggested that there is inverse relationship
between inflation and unemployment and there are three assumptions of Philips curve: the first one is
that in the short run there is trade off between unemployment and inflation. The second assumption is
that aggregate supply can break the concept of Philips curve because it can cause the stagnation that is
high unemployment and high inflation. And the final assumption is that in the long run there is no
significant trade off between unemployment and inflation. The economist like (McConnell 16th
edition) has best interest to identify their relationship; in the short run there is trade off between
unemployment and inflation. In this view different studies in different countries have found out

For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in...
For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in literature in order for a character to feign
ignorance, such as in Sheridan s play, The Rivals and is based off of a character in the play named
Mrs. Malaprop. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop
would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as
a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an
individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. In this essay, the
theory of how malapropisms are lexicalized will be discussed in terms of the structure of the mental
lexicon used in producing and understanding speech. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as
word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008)
These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are
contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in
the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for
word production and comprehension.
Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and
word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their
phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in
an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in
an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound
relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological
sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word
semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning
(Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). In other words, the target word an individual searches for in

  • 2. The Issue Of School Security There has been an unfortunate amount of tragic school shootings in the last ten years developing an atmosphere where gun activists and safety advisors have been feeding on every event that takes place. When these catastrophic events transpire, reality s morals are questioned; what is considered safe? Among the emerging trials of appalling bloodshed, society deems it as a commendable time as any to make a change. In the result of such events, the issue of school security and pressures to student protection have been meticulously picked apart in virtually every medium. Thoughts and outrage trickle down a ceaseless tributary making its way to platforms like websites and television in hopes that it flows far enough to grace government shores. In this paper, I will discuss what has sparked transformation in regards to camps safety and how these changes affect students and faculty. The exponential growth of violence and the ever increasing personal entitlement of individuals have law makers working rigorously to appease the public. The second amendment in the U.S Constitution reads, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Over time, this amendment will trigger much debate. It will cause multiple vacillating iterations of the right to expand its impact and to control it. Economic incentives are used to influence a person. The postulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Incentives are seen everywhere in daily life and they appear in a variety of ways. Whether a person is making a choice between what to eat for lunch or when to go to bed, they are being influence by incentives. For example, images of an appealing lunch meal in a TV commercial may make someone choose Subway over Mcdonalds. However, the same thought process can motivate someone to prefer a meal at McDonalds because of the company s constant promotion of their dollar menu (Mcdonalds, 2013). Either of these incentives can appeal to a person, depending on what they are motivated by, in this case, either health or money. The Bible is full of different forms of incentives. Some people can skim the Bible and note its major incentive; the opportunity for eternal life. However a deeper knowledge of what God says shows many more incentives. Other incentives are exemplified in the Bible: believers have faith which gives them peace (Romans 5:1), faith leads to loving the Creator and experiencing His love (Psalms 85:10), and the knowledge of right and wrong gives an opportunity for forgiveness (Acts 2:38). All of these reasons for believing the Bible, along with many more, can motivate a person to choose that specific approach to life. In its essence, an incentive is a deliberate proposal calculated to make a person choose a certain action. Thus, the reason why incentives are so popular in society is because everything and ... • 5. Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Summary All beings require a degree of freedom to truly live, as such, caged animals are often subjected to a life subpar to truly living. Consequently, this rule applies to humans as well, and unfortunately enough, most humans in our era fail to live. In the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, Dunbar seeks to explore this sullen connection with the speaker and a caged animal feels by utilizing repetition and metaphor. The first stanza begins with the primary metaphor of the caged bird. In this line, the speaker states that he knows what the caged bird feels (line 1). Under the assumption that the speaker, like most people, cannot speak to animals, his understanding of the bird s feelings must come from inference from observation. Dunbar goes onto depict a beautiful landscape of the birds natural habitat. However, the feelings of the depiction are clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bird s mania manifests in vain attempts on breaking the bars of his cage with his body. Beating its body against the bars until he bleeds red, (line 9) the bird would almost prefer death to this life if it were not for the vague prospect of release. Towards the end of the stanza, the tale of the caged bird thickens as his old scars... pulse... with a keener sting (line 12 13). This line shows that the bird is not simply trying to fly away without understanding the limits of the change, the bird seems to represent the spirit of a stallion rejecting the enforced domestication of its captors. The last stanza summarizes the predicament of the cage bird, and the odd act which the caged bird commits, the caged bird sings (line 15). However, singing often represents joy Dunbar clarifies that this singing is in prayer. After beating himself against the bars he resigns his broken body to sing and pray for success, reaching to a higher power for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even matters that naturally seem to be a reflection of one s personal experiences, such as political stance or religious views, have been proven by various studies to be largely controlled by genetics (Times Higher Education, 1997). Researchers at the University of Minnesota launched the Minnesota Twin Family Study in 1979, in which over a period of 20 years, they studied 137 pairs of twins 81 of which were identical. Through this study, researchers found that about 70% of IQ variation across the twin population was due to genetic differences among people (LiveScience, 2014); a more recent study in 2009 also supported this. Each child observed the model playing with a Bobo Doll, then were individually sent into a room with the same doll and a variety of aggressive toys (e.g. hammers, dart guns) and non aggressive toys (e.g. tea sets, crayons). Children who observed the aggressive model made far more imitative aggressive responses than those who were in the non aggressive or control groups (S. Mcleod, 2014). There was little difference in the verbal aggression between boys and girls. These findings support Bandura s Social Learning Theory that children learn social behavior such as aggression through the process of observation learning through watching the behavior of another person. Famous anthropologist, Margaret Mead, studied a number of different tribal cultures throughout the 1930s. Of these studies one of her most famous was her study of three different New Guinean tribes, The Arapesh, Mundugumor and Tachambuli, each of which appeared to have a different view of gender to Westerners. The table below details the differences between these tribes. ARAPESH MUNDUGUMOR TACHMBULI Lived in the mountains had no conception of the ownership of land. Culture was simple and kind. Now more than ever, science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the origin of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists and creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions of the courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools. Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state. Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion, emphasizing that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical thinking (5). As a result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce other scientific theories dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies to all area of academics, many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter seems indicative of a totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce students to as many alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present must have factual ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky ground scientifically, it should have no place in science education classes. Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. Yet, he explains, a campaign against those theories in courtrooms is, in essence, nonexistent (140). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Theories Of Biocentric Egalitarianism Paul Taylor, a professor at Brooklyn college, is known for his theory of biocentric egalitarianism. Biocentric Egalitarianism is the notion that all living beings have equal inherent worth in that each is a goal directed system pursuing its own good (VanDeVeer 21). Taylor emphasizes a life centered approach to environmental ethics, as opposed to an anthropocentric human centered approach. He argues that it is the good of individual organisms, considered as entities having inherent worth, that determines our moral relations with the Earth s wild communities of life (201). We as humans have a duty to all plants and animals as they are also members of the biotic community. The well being of species, including human beings, is something to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These methodologies have the possibility to act as the groundwork for official policy solutions. This aspect sets Taylor apart from other environmental ethicists who tend to remain the abstract realm. In terms of his approaches, for me I see the most applicability in the principle of minimum wrong. Many times, the interests of humans and nonhumans are directly competing with each other. This, in our current state, seems unavoidable. But if we approach these situations with the minimum wrong mentality, we can hopefully search for the most environmentally beneficial solutions and avoid ecological catastrophe. This principle is especially important due to the fact that we are still not fully aware about how the systems of plants and animals work. For example there have been movements to assign plants specifically some sentience and mentality, however these movements have been traditionally denied (Plants as Persons). Especially with experiments as demonstrated in Plant Thinking that identified existential features of plant behavior and the vegetal heritage of human thought, now more than ever we need to respect non biotic creatures as they may be more intellectually complex than we have ... • 28. Potato Osmosis Lab Report I was able to determine which solution corresponded to which molarity by my knowledge of how water osmosis from high concentrations of water to low concentrations of water. I determined solution D to be the lowest molarity of 0.0 moles because the potatoes that were immersed in this solution had the highest average percent increase in mass of 23.08%. Since there is a small amount of sugar in the potato cores and the potato cores gained a large amount of mass, that must mean that there was a higher concentration of water or a hypotonic solution outside the potato cores because the water osmosed from high water concentration into low water concentration. Since the potato cores gained the most mass, it must mean that there was the greatest amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solution outside the cores must have been hypertonic and inside must have been hypotonic, causing the water to osmose out of the cores. I knew there must have been more sucrose than solution A because there decrease was greater, meaning that the outside solution was more hypertonic, causing more water to need to leave the core to create an isotonic environment. I determined that solution E contained 0.8 moles of sucrose because the cores immersed in it had the next largest decrease in mass. This shows that the solution must have been even more concentrated or hypertonic causing more water to leave to create an isotonic environment. I determined that solution B contained the largest amount of sucrose with 1.0 moles. This was because the cores immersed in it had the largest decrease, which means that the solution outside of the core must have been the most hypertonic which means it must have had the most amount of sucrose. I knew this because the most water left these potato cores which means that the solution outside must have been the most hypertonic and needing the most water to make it isotonic to the inside of the cores which contain a lot of ... Inflation And Unemployment Essay Abstract The main aim of this study is to investigate the existence of trade off relationship between inflation rate and unemployment rate in Namibian economy between 1991 and 2014 the perspective of Phillips curve by using the Ordinal Least Square (OLS) method. The results of Augmented Dickey Fuller test shows that all variables are stationary at level and the integration test shows that they integrated at level I(0). The analysis result shows the negative relationship between inflation rate and unemployment rate in short run as it was expected. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter one Introduction For years now economist have been debating about inflation and unemployment whether it is possible to achieve both of this main macroeconomic goals , which is low inflation and low unemployment in the economy at the same time without harming the economy. In this case it remains one of the challenge that face most of developing countries that include Namibia, to sustain the low inflation and low unemployment rate. Philips curve was emerged in 1960 in United Kingdom, was named after A. W. Philips the founder of Philips curve. Philips curve suggested that there is inverse relationship between inflation and unemployment and there are three assumptions of Philips curve: the first one is that in the short run there is trade off between unemployment and inflation. The second assumption is that aggregate supply can break the concept of Philips curve because it can cause the stagnation that is high unemployment and high inflation. And the final assumption is that in the long run there is no significant trade off between unemployment and inflation. The economist like (McConnell 16th edition) has best interest to identify their relationship; in the short run there is trade off between unemployment and inflation. In this view different studies in different countries have found out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in... For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in literature in order for a character to feign ignorance, such as in Sheridan s play, The Rivals and is based off of a character in the play named Mrs. Malaprop. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. In this essay, the theory of how malapropisms are lexicalized will be discussed in terms of the structure of the mental lexicon used in producing and understanding speech. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008) These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for word production and comprehension. Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). In other words, the target word an individual searches for in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
