2. DV
DV also known as digital video, is just an alternative way of transmitting a
video signal from one place to another. It shows the images by using
numbers, such as 1’s and 0’s.
The pros of digital video is that because it is data will always be what it is, so
no matter how many times it is copied, it will always remain the same. So the
picture quality is good. They are really easy to use, and have great storage
room.
The cons however are that the prices are really high. Some older
televisions, may have problems with the connectivity.
3. DVD
A DVD is a videodisc, that stores plenty of data and has a high-resolution
audio-visual material.
The pros for DVD is that you can store large amounts of film, video, or
sound onto them, and still be a high quality. Which is great for the producers
and audiences, as it has plenty of room to have more stuff on.
However the cons of DVDs are that they can cost a lot of money, get lost and
broken easily. Which isn’t much of a problem for producers, however for the
audience, it can be bad, as they get broken easily, etc.
4. UMD
UMD also known as a Universal Media Disc, is an optical disc medium
developed by Sony for use on their PlayStation portable handheld. It can hold
up to 900 megabytes. It stores games, music, and video. It is not made for use
of any other devices.
The pros of this disc is that it can hold enough memory for what you need it
to do and it also is small enough to take places. Also for the producers, teh
disc cannot be illegally copied, as Sony have not made blank discs available for
sale. The downside however is that teh disc is very fragile, and can be broken
from the misuse.
5. HD
HD also known as High Definition increases the display or visual resolution.
This is used within televisions, video, multimedia Interface, etc.
The pros of HD is the fact that things are in a much better quality when
watching them. It is great for the viewer/audience, as when watching a film, or
programme it gives the viewer a new experience.
The cons however is for the producer, is that when actually making the film or
programme, for it to go into HD is that it costs extra, and the viewer has to
pay extra in order for them to be able to watch HD and gain the full
experience they are looking for.
6. BLU-RAY
A Blu-ray is a digital optical disc data storage, it is designed to supersede the
DVD format.
The pros of the Blu-ray is that it is a much higher quality than any other DVD
format there is, as it also uses a high-resolution video format.
The cons of this however is that it costs a lot more money in the long run.
For the producers and teh viewers, because teh producers have to make sure
that they have teh correct equipment in order to produce the movies, and teh
viewers have to pay more for the blu-ray DVDs and the Blu-ray disc players.
7. DIGITAL PROJECTION
Digital Projection is used in cinemas for public exhibition. It takes a video
signal and projects the corresponding image on a projection screen using a
lens system.
The pros of using digital projection is that it is a cheaper distribution, and a
clearer picture. However it has issues with piracy, more than any other.
8. REEL PROJECTION
A reel projector is a opto-mechanical device for showing motion picture
film, by projecting it onto a screen.
9. IMAX
IMAX (Image Maximum) is a motion picture film format. It has teh capacity
to record and show images of such size and resolution, than the other
conventional film systems.
The pros of IMAX is that the viewers get a great experience when going to
the cinemas, and it can bring in lots of money for teh producers, however the
cons are that it costs more to get that experience, and for teh producers to
make, also for the cinemas to install the IMAX screens.
10. IMAX 3D
IMAX 3D is shown by using two separate camera lenses that represent teh left
and right eyes. And by projecting the two films on teh screen, it shows a 3D
image on a 2D screen.
The pros of this is also that is give teh viewers an amazing experience, but it is
very expensive to make a IMAX 3D film, but also to view one.
11. FUSION CAMERA SYSTEM
This camera system also known as the Reality Camera System 1 is a digital
movie camera system which was developed by James Cameron and Vince
Pace. It shoots features in stereoscopic 3D.
The pros to the fusion camera system is that it gives a great experience to any
viewer as it gives the brain the illusion it is seeing the pictures from two
different angles, creating the 3D effect.
The cons to this, is that it is very expensive to produce and that it also takes
long to produce.
