Technologies used in construction,
research, planning and evaluation

Construction and research
• In order to research the typical codes and conventions
of a music video, I looked up various current music
  videos on www.youtube.com
• I also created my own remake of a song, following the
same lighting, scenes and costumes, this allowed me to
explore different editing software, for this I used
windows movie maker as opposed to final cut pro
• I also used photoshop to create a mock-up digipak to
see a general outline of what I was going to make and
also found images of famous digpaks
Planning
• I used microsoft word to write up group meeting notes on what we
were going to create and how we were going to do it. This allowed
me to see a list of what needed to be done in order for our music
  video to be created
• I created a list of the props needed for our scene including
  microphone stands, love heart balloons
• I had to test the lighting to see what we would use in the studio
when we were recording, including the brightness of the main,
front and back lights and this was controlled by the lighting deck
• It was essential to understand how to use the camera in order to
record properly on the right settings using a HD camera and a
cannon US550, without this understanding the cameras we used
would’ve easily broken or it might not have recorded properly.
• I also used a website called www.tadalist.com where I could create
an online checklist of what I still had to complete
Evaluation
• In order to evaluate my music video I decided to create a
character on www.voki.com this way I can engage with the
audience much more effectively as it is a new unique
  creative way
• I also drew out a picture of one of the scenes with our love
heart balloons using odosketch, this way the audience can
see visually what the scene would be like
• We used a powerpoint presentation to ask our audience
what they thought of our video after showing it to the class
and recorded their responses on a flip cam. We then used
www.surveymonkey.com to create an online questionnaire
where we gained feedback on what was good about our
video as well as what could be improved
What was the most effective piece of
         technology used?
• The most effective technology I used was final cut pro,
this is where all the editing of the music video took
place and where various effects could be placed on to.
It also allowed for our audience feedback footage to be
  edited using this programme
• Many of the technologies relied on another piece in
order for it to be effective, the camera without the
lighting would have been of no use and final cut pro
would be useless without the footage, this shows the
importance of the different technologies used
