INTRODUCTION
Teaching competence refers to the knowledge, skills, and behaviour that teachers
need to carry out their professional responsibilities . It can also be defined as the
ability to convey knowledge ,skills and applications to students in the right way.
To enhance students learning , teachers must have expertise in a wide range of
teaching competencies so that they are able to deal with every student having
different learning styles. A strong introduction can engage learners, provide
context and outline what learners are going to learn.
Teacher competence refers to the set of knowledge , abilities and beliefs , a teacher
possesses to bring a teaching situation .Competence also refers to concept and
skills which are flexible and applicable to wide variety of situations.
TEACHING COMPETENCIES
Teacher competencies are an outcome based method for assessing teacher
performance. They define key characteristics for successful teachers without
prescribing any specific curriculum or instructional practices .They are –
 Content area knowledge
 Pedagogic capabilities
 Communication skills
 Professionalism
 Subject competencies
 Pedagogical competencies
 Technological competencies
COMPONENTS OF TEACHING
COMPETENCIES
We can categorise components of teaching competencies into 5 kind-
 COMPETENCY IN PERSONAL:
a) He/she should always be active
b) They should posses eligibility
c) They should posses attitude towards students and teaching
d) They should personally posses awareness.
 COMPETENCY IN PROFESSIONAL:
a) Deep knowledge about teaching of content
b) Posses and using appropriate teaching skills
c) Adopting new innovative methods and techniques in classroom teaching
 COMPETENCY IN SOCIAL :
a) They should be competent enough to creating things openly
b) Achieving the specific objectives of institution
c) They should posses good leadership qualities
d) Working with cooperativeness
e)Creating a set of conductive atmosphere
 COMPETENCY IN PLANNING:
While planning and preparing for teaching the teacher should posses certain
competency as follows-
a) Construction of objectives
b) Selection of teaching methods
c) Content selection
d) Preparation of teaching materials
e) Preparation of evaluation tools
 COMPETENCY OF INTERACTION IN CLASSROOM:
Teacher while interacting with student they should posses following competency
they are-
a) Diagnosis
b) Control
c) Inspire
d) Discuss
e)Presentation evaluation
f)Questioning
g) Providing feedback

The competencies deals with the professional skills of the teacher which enables them
to perform the task with high excellence.

1. Interpersonal skills:
• Seek to understand other peoples opinions
• As a role model for students, exhibit professionalism while communicating .
• Task is a non threatening tone
• Have positive regard for students
2. Classroom management :
• Treat mistake as apart of learning
• Along with clear routines, behaviours and expectation
• Observe and interact with students regularly
• Make sure students display empathy and support for others
3. Coaching and assessment :
• Make sure feedback and assessment are provided on time
• Report progress and achievement in a timely manner
• Based on individuals status students needs, differentiate assignments to engage more
in the project
• Give plenty of options to student to demonstrate themselves
4. Facilitate teamwork :
• Deal with conflicting situation constructively and positively
• Respect the values and opinions of others
• Participate in team decision making
• Share appropriate information appropriately and willingly
5. Instructional delivery :
• Clear objectives the instructional design should come with clear goals
• Mastery level teaching make criteria that assist students in learning the skills
• Report achievements finally don’t forget to report students achievements to their
parents and guidance on time

• Create and maintain an environment where students can actively participate
cooperatively and independently
• Align students interests and abilities with the content
