Shouldn’t the web be awesome for everyone? That's not always the case, but it could be.
Designed for developers, project managers, and directors alike, the goal of this session is to introduce everyone to the wonderful world of web accessibility. We'll cover the basic standards and regional expectations for accessibility, as well as the principles and concepts that make up the accessibility field. This session will touch on Section 508, WCAG 2.0 standards, and the financial viability of a web accessibility initiative in an industry where time is money.
This session is proposed as a conceptual prelude to our more developer-oriented accessibility session that is taking place at the Higher Ed Summit. Based on my experience as a web accessibility specialist from both the perspective of a project manager and a front-end developer, I'll share the knowledge I've gained with you to address the following important questions:
- What is web accessibility?
- Why does web accessibility matter to my users?
- Why does web accessibility matter for my company and clients?
- How will a web accessibility initiative affect my bottom line?
- How can I include web accessibility in my company's culture and work plans?
- What tools can I use to assess and improve accessibility in my projects?
- How can I help the web accessibility community?
This presentation covers; different types of disabilities, assistive technologies, legal and ethical responsibilities as well as a range of terms such as W3C, WAI and WCAG.

Pr when the public does most of the relating by john bellJohn Bell
The truth is that our definition of “media” has exploded. Our idea of “influencers” has expanded. And effective communications has as much to do with building relationships through conversations and word of mouth as it does with marketing campaigns and message delivery. How do we create effective ommunications programs when peer-to-peer recommendations are the new form of “earned media”?

As Product Professionals we are told our job is to create products that either solve user problems or take advantage of opportunities. The challenge is that, during this time, this seems hard to find as new product innovations are being released every day. Are we running out of problems or opportunities? No, we have simply only been looking at the problem/opportunity from our usual viewpoint of the average user. What if we looked at it from a different lens? What if we look at people who always struggle with problems based on their environments not accommodating their unique needs? I argue, this is the gold mine of opportunity for creating innovative products. Solving the mismatches of people with disabilities will lead into innovations for your users and customers of all abilities! We will discuss the real-world examples of this, how to do it, and future market demand. We will all be disabled one day.

We will work together to develop observation and assessment techniques for UDL to create a foundation from which we can build.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. 5. ROI & Shareholder Value vs.
Charity
• Corporate engagement with our community is now about ROI
and increased shareholder value. Time to move away from
charity or only Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
• Improvements pursued by a corporation to streamline their
process for improved accessibility and inclusion within its
workforce are providing differentiators for brands.
• Brands must realize that these efforts provide increased
productivity for its employees and better solutions for their
customers (with and without disabilities). Equating to positive
ROI. Resulting in competitive advantages and larger returns
to the Shareholders.

6. Business and SDGs
5
Businesses, government and civil society must play an active role in
collaborative solutions to address the world’s most pressing societal
challenges described in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Unilever’s whole business model is geared towards the SDGs, and that all
300 brands they have globally are to the purpose of the SDGs. Consumer
goods giant Unilever promotes and exemplifies the idea that if a company
wants to be prosperous in the long-term, putting sustainability at the heart of
its business model makes perfect sense.” Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever
SDGs
7. Diversity and Intersectionality
We must remember to encourage inclusion of all voices in the
global diversity, and inclusion community movements. For
example, Women’s movements should embrace and include
women with disabilities. The LGBTQ movement must including
community members that are also disabled. Plus embrace other
movements like Neurodiversity. We are Stronger Together!!!

Doppler Labs’ Here One buds in white
The combination wireless earbuds and smart device is able to take in
ambient sound through microphones, then filter out background
noises and enhance speech—doing essentially what a hearing aid
does.
KR Liu, Google
“We really believe that accessibility
and reaching those consumers is
important, but we haven’t been
able to [reach them] due to
regulation.” KR Liu
By setting their sights on users with both mild
and moderate hearing loss, Doppler, Bose, and
other companies are inexorably blurring the
line between professional-grade devices and
lifestyle products. Starkey’s Halo 2 hearing aids, costing
up to $10,000.

16. Digital Inclusion
Digital inclusion is an economic imperative for every community. We
must all have access to reliable, affordable internet or the digital
divide continues to widen.
These digital inclusion issues are impacting Rural Communities,
disenfranchised communities, including persons with disabilities, and
many people in developing countries.
15
Sara Ruh
As we move towards 5G – society must
assure access to robust and affordable
Internet around the world.
Access allows communities to thrive
socially, economically, encourages
innovation, and broadens opportunities.
17. • Integrating persons with disabilities into an
organization’s workplace, marketing/branding
efforts, and accessibility of products and services.

• These efforts are good for
the bottom-line and the
brand’s image.
• Societies function better
when everyone has the
opportunity to contribute and
participate.

18. In Conclusion: Direct Path to the
Community
• Advance technology has created a new model that has
broken down barriers to this Global Community of PwD’s,
family and friends. The community is active, engaged, and
is a strong purchasing power.
• A direct bidirectional path to consumers with disabilities.
• Model that is Business to Consumer and Consumer direct
to Business.
• This is due in great part to the
advancements with Social media
