TEACHING WITH VIDEOS In this presentation you will see an example of a class of starters students of English as L2 which includes the use of  technological resources to work with videos in the lesson.
Topic: Food and Drinks Grammar point: “Would like” Time: 80’ minutes
Warming up activity: Students will be shown pictures of different food and drinks. In turns they will have to stand up and say thier names and a sentence using “like”  or “don’t like”.  T models an example first:  She shows her image (hamburger). She says: My name is……. I like it/I don’t like it.
 
Students will be asked about the pictures they saw. T will introduce new vocabulary by showing a picture at a time and naming it. Students are asked to repeat after her. Presentation
 
Students will be shown the same set of pictures. This time they will have to say the names of the food/drinks they remember. So, the teacher will introduce the written form of food/drink.
Soup Fruits Chicken
Salad Vegetables Coke
Wine Hamburger Spaghetti
Ice-cream Pizza Cheese
Students will be provided with a set of pictures in order to discuss them in groups.
Look at these pictures.
Discuss these questions: What type of video is it? Who is the woman? Who are the men? Where are they?
Student will watch a video in order check their answers. The video is played mute.

They will watch it again (the video is played with sounds) in order to listen to the food/drink that is named.

T introduces the grammar point. She explains the use of  the “would like” construction. She introduces the contracted form: I’d like She provides examples using the  “would like + food/drink”. Example: I would like a pizza.
Systematization. Students will be asked to write an example using would like+food/drink according to the first image they got. Example: Juan got  . He writes: I would like chicken
Practice Student wil be provided with images so as for them to fill in the gaps to make a complete sentence. They have to use: would like+food/drink.
Example: I........like a ……… I would like a salad. I ….. like an ………… I would……………... ... would .…  a  …...
Students will choose 2 different food and drinks and they have to write a sentence for each of them using twice long and short forms. T will monitor students’ performance.
In turns, students will tell the class the food/drink they chose. Then, they will write a sentence on the board. T will provide the necessary help to clarify students’ doubts in case they arise.
Production: Student will be provided with cards containing the name of food or drinks. They will have to change cards among the classmates. Once the teacher stops them they will have to draw it on the board and then say a sentence using the word on the card.
