Stage 2: Guided Instruction Formal learning opportunity Goals clearly established Reasonable time frame Not crammed into after school workshop Considers adult learning styles Student: Teacher ratio best if < 15:1
Stage 3: Independent Practice Learner given chance to practice Optional exercises available Learner can create relevant examples Take content from subject/grade level Meaningful time on computer Help available as they work
Practice Continued  Important attributes of practice session Solidify skills introduced earlier Learner will self monitor Search for help, attempt to troubleshoot Not abandoned by instructor  Free to fail and learn from it
Stage 4: Follow Up Instruction At least a day later Time to digest previous material Learner returns to class with specific ?s Fresh start; no longer a beginner More accountable for success
Stage 5: Beyond the Workshop Ongoing practice essential to retain learning Exercises and materials available Web resources, journals, written info Direct communication with instructor: email  User group model: a core group of motivated learners
