African Masculinity And The African Continent
The African continent has been riddled with western ideologies and stereotypes for centuries. Even
before the institution of colonization was implemented across the continent, western visitors who
saw the world through their western ideologies and eyes labeled African men, women, and
societies as barbaric, and inferior. These ideologies of Africans continued from slavery, to
colonization and even into the ideology of western nations today. Africans today are working to
change the ideologies placed on them by westerners and create their own definition of what it
means to be an African.
Through photographs, African artists such as Rotimi Fani Kayode are working to dispel ideologies
about African masculinity that is now ingrained in the minds of many westerners. His photograph
Adebiyi (1989), which translates to crown like this is one example of art that counters western
ideologies about African men. He uses a striking image of a masculine man in a feminine pose to
defiantly resist western ideologies of African masculinity and sexuality. His photograph is among
the set of tools being used by many Africans to reimagine Africans in media across the world and
redefine western ideologies about African men.
In his essay The White of Their Eyes Stuart Hall defines ideology as a socially created idea that is
reproduced (1990). Ideologies are present in every society and as they are repeated, they can
generate and produce relationships of inequality. An us versus them

The Discussion For My Assigned Reading Went Better Than I...
The discussion for my assigned reading went better than I expected. This book was a bit of a
challenge to read because e of the way that its written. Even though this reading isn t one of my
favorites, it was a challenge for me, therefor it made me want to understand it more. I think that
the discussion went well, many students shared their opinion, and for the most part, the
subjects of the discussion intermingled. It was good to hear that many students shared some of
the same thoughts. I think that this made the discussion interesting because they felt
comfortable sharing their opinion and thoughts about the book. I really enjoyed leading
discussion because I was forced to share my opinion and listen carefully to others in order to
agree or disagree with what they said. Kevin and I met twice to talk about what we wanted to do
for our presentation. We divided up the reading between us so that we could focus more in
depth with the reading. I took ever the first half of the book and Kevin took over the second half.
I would of like for Kevin to have spoken out more and be more active in the discussion because
when we met, he had some really good points that would have added to the discussion. Overall, the
discussion went really well, I actually wanted to continue discussing but we ran out of time.
Analysis
The fact that the book starts with what I consider the climax of the story, makes the reader want to

Fighting for a Better Health Essay
Fighting for a Better Health
As of today, America has undergone many issues involving health like diabetes, heart disease, and
lung cancer. Many of the health issues are caused by components very well known to us such as
pollution, alcohol, drugs, sexually transmitted diseases, and so forth. Little was known about the
fact that food, being an important necessity for human life, has started America s major epidemic
among children and teens obesity. With more than 50 million youths attending schools everyday
(HHS 1), it s scary to think of the fact that three fourths of the adolescents don t eat a healthy diet. In

This gives the students no choice but to eat a healthy school lunch; of course, the students would
be able to buy as much candy as they would like before and after school or during any
extracurricular activity.
Another proposed deterrent is the complete no sale of soda and candy anytime within school
property, otherwise known as a ban. School officials observe the banishment as a major solution to
decrease the rate of obesity among students in America. Even though Federal law prohibits the sale
of foods containing little nutritional value in competition with the school lunch program (Vail 1),
many parents repeatedly argue about the fact that this act of limitation eliminates their students
freedom of choice. Several high school students agree. As spokesman for the Center of Consumer
Freedom, John Doyle says, They can eliminate everything they want, and it will not do one thing to
curb obesity (Egan 3). On the other hand, various school districts have postponed acts of limitation
on fattening foods and beverages due to other reasons.
The number one reason is the fact that the schools would lose thousands of dollars a year in lost
contracts with food companies. According to an industry study, schools across the country get
about $750 million annually from contract deals with companies who are granted permission

Smart Fat Research Paper
Fat is often labeled as the reason for obesity however it seems like there is sufficient proof that fat
in itself does not cause weight gain. In 1977, the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human
Needs recommended a dietary guideline that limited fat intake to no more than 30% per day.
According to statistics, the instances of obesity started to increase around the same time fat was
villanized and low fat products became more popular. Furthermore, similar studies claim that the
war on fat led people to substitute butter and lard with processed low fat food which are high in
artificial flavoring and sugar.
More and more health enthusiasts are learning that not all fat is bad for the body. In fact, recently
Dr. Jonny Bowden and Dr. Steven Masley, a nutritionexperts, published their book entitled Smart
Fat, which details the benefits of consuming the right kind of fat to losing weight. ... Show more

He explained that Masley have seen firsthand what fat deprivation does to the body and according
to him, it is not good.
He further explains that their Smart Fat diet plan has one basic principle five portions of smart
fat, five portions of clean proteins and 10 servings of fiber. He claims that most of the pitfalls of
people who embrark on a high fat, low carb diet is not including enough fiber in their meal plan.
According to the doctor, fiber helps in the weight loss process and it prevents diabetes and heart
disease.
The doctor was quick to explain that more than diet there are many more factors that affect weight
loss. However he seemed more than certain that his fat laden diet is key to losing weight in the

I Am Proud of Who I Am Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something
else is a great accomplishment . Who am I? is question that many often struggle to answer, but
for me it allows me to differentiate from my constituents and express who I really am. What
makes me such a unique individual is my ability to identify with 5 strong strengths. I love the fact
that I am futuristic and I have the ability to relate, I am responsible, I am a developer and last but
not least I am disciplined. Each one these themes shape and generate my personality. Born on

Whenever I set a goal, I first ask myself is the goal realistic and reachable and secondly if I am
willing to make changes in my life to reach those goals. While I have several goals there are a
few that are imperative to reach. One of them being a counseling center for underprivileged girls
ages K 12. As a victim and an advocate for bullying I want to highlight the situation and teach the
girls how to detect signs and how to deal with a bully. I had my parents to help me but my goal is
to target those that don t necessarily receive that attention at home. Self esteem will also is a big
topic surrounding girls in that age group I want to teach them about positive body image and the
importance of loving yourself. Obtaining my Ph.D. is another meaningful goal I intend to
achieve; with myself being the first generation from my family to attend a major university I
feel the need to reach my highest potential. Setting big goals, taking small steps and being
focused in my pursuit I know I will achieve all I set my mind to. The definition of a relator is

Family Is A Powerful And Meaningful Word Family
What is Family? According to the online dictionary family is all those persons considered as
descendants of a common progenitor. I view family in a whole different perspective. The word
family is a powerful and meaningful word. To me, it means people who accept you for who you
are where there s no hatred or judgement and love you unconditionally. A dog or pet can simply
become family. A person who you can count on through your emotional or financial distress can
also be family. Growing up my parents and siblings weren t always supportive or loving. I m the
youngest and pretty much seeked love and attention elsewhere which made me view my friends,
colleagues, pets, and counselors as family. I didn t have much of a childhood my parents had a
lot of personal and financial issues and eventually they became a part of my issues as well. I
became depressed to the point school was no longer a priority. I failed my classes hung around
with the wrong crowd and no longer cared about my life or future; somehow my teachers observed
everything and became my mentors I felt the love they had towards me and how they wanted the
best for me. I grew close to them and start questioning my own family and why they didn t have the
urge to help meor understand me and how much harm they have caused over the years. With the
helpof my teachers I became to make a slight progress, but with the environment I was in I no

What Was The Revolt Of 1857 Essay
Introduction In the beginning of the nineteenth century, British claimed the title and position as
the world s greatest imperial power. It had convinced itself, after its victory in the Napoleonic
wars, that the British were the chosen race to rule the world and bring about the western
civilizations to the back. This belief of possessing supreme authority is what led British to conquer
its remaining colonies, one of which was the great India. Its quest to conquer India under the
workings of the title of the East India Company is what led to one of the greatest battles in the
world history. This battle is termed as the patriotic national war of independence by the Indians,
whereas the British call it as the single coherent mutiny . But it... Show more content on

The Boston Herald s Article Lizzie Borden
Women cannot be murderers. Even though this was not explicitly stated in the newspapers, The
Boston Herald in its article Lizzie Borden conveys the perception that the feminine ways
associated with women would make it impractical for women to commit murder. Lizzie Borden,
a young lady accused of brutally killing her stepmother and father with multiple blows to their
heads with a hatchet was described as a religious, sincere, and modest human being in The Boston
Herald s article covering Lizzie s life before and after the murders. During Lizzie s youth, she
suffered from isolation because of her reserved personality and belief that nobody appreciated her
presence, but in womanhood turned her life around and attain friendships who vouched for her
good character during the time of the investigation. The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden: Her
School and Later Life A Noble Woman
, Though Retiring , successfully persuades the reader of
Lizzie Borden s innocence with the focus on her femininitythrough diction and logic. The word
choice throughout the article promotes sympathy towards Lizzie that reiterates the idea that women
are incompetent of committing heinous crimes. For example, in The Boston Herald s article
Lizzie Borden states, Her dark, lustrous eyes, ordinarily flashing, were, dimmed, and her pale face
was evidence of the physical suffering she was undergoing and had experienced which implies the
misery Lizzie has encountered after the death of her

What It Means To Be Successful Research Paper
What Does It Mean To Be Successful? Success is something that without a doubt, doesn t
manifest so easily. It is something that people would be compelled to grind down to the dirt for,
in order to advance in everyday life, whether it be social or academic. Success is something that
anyone yearns to gain. It surely doesn t come swiftly, unfortunately, and it won t develop out of thin
air. The prevailing key to having successas I have aforementioned in a metaphorical way, is tough
work, moxie, and time as in managing it. It takes a suitable amount of self constraint, to stay
undeviating towards your direction, and maintain your focus. To become successful, one could try
to emulate the tips from the population of the ones who have already become successful and

that you archive data of zeal and enthusiasm, rather than being in a cloud of ambiguity. Having
self doubt will only lead down one road, which is the road to failure. Ordinarily, we ve
individually tended to be our own worst critics, in addition to others that are around us. Another
path leading to success is formulating a strategy. Contriving a strategic objective, without more
than that, will do zilch to establish its success. The only concreteness and structure will
successfully ignite and move it forward. Begin by slicing your goal into minor sections to lick
into shape, making it more workable. Afterwards, factor in a strategic plan with scheduled
activities and outcomes that will help to sell its success. Take notes on what would be honorable
in the long run, and be proactive around forging key principles where it would be imperative.

The Negative Effects of Oil Spills Have on Nigeria, A letter
Dear President
My name is John Doe. I am writing this letter to inform you about the negative effects in Nigeria
oil spills have on its people and the environment around them. Oil spills pollute the water, killing
animals and plant life that inhabit the area around the spill. It is important that this problem is to
be looked at and solved. Nigeria s Niger Delta is one of the most oil polluted places on the planet
with more than 6,800 recorded oil spills. Millions of barrels of oil were spilled into the Niger
Delta.. Some people inhabit the land around it. The water is there main resource to use. They use
it for irrigation, drinking, and bathing. They use the water for their everyday needs. The water is
too polluted for them to drink anymore and they can t use the water for irrigation because it is
killing all of their crops. Multiple people have suffered from illnesses from drinking the oil
polluted water. Cleanups don t clean the land very well even though they are supposed to clean
deep into the ground. A percent of Nigerian mangroveecosystems have been destroyed out by oil.
The known effects of oil on mangroves are making the soil into acid, stop cellular respiration,
and they do not let the roots get oxygen. The loss of mangrove forests does not only decrease the
life of plants and animals. They also affect humans. The indigenous people living in the affected
areas highly value these systems. The local people by the mangrove forest use the wood as a major

Data Management and Analysis
The data collected from questionnaire and registration forms were computerized and processed
using the calculation program excel. The results were in a descriptive manner with numbers and
percentages. The questions with open reply were analyzed by theme analysis. The results obtained
were extracts of statements presented by the district nurses (Friman, Klang Ebbeskog, 2010).
Three researchers were involved in data collection , all data collected were transcribed exactly
same as it was in the questionnaire, read and categorized according to what appeared from the data,
this helped in minimizing researcher bias.

History Of American Comic Comics Superheroes
History of American Comic Book Superheroes.
Before they become significant box office phenomena and debut for TV serious, superheroes were
short stories in printed media. Supermen, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman ...were comic
books superheroes. The idea of superheroes was long existed. However, as many comic books
historians agreed, The Phantom, published in February 17, 1936, is considered to be the first
comic book costumed hero. Since then, comic books superheroes were booming. In the mid 1940s,
collectively, American comic books publishers sold between eighty million to hundred million
copies every week. Though there is a difference on the span of years, historians divided the history
of comic books superheroes into periods. Starting from the first golden age, this paper will point out
and discuss the major historical events and phenomena that American superheroes comic books
went through time.
Golden Age
Some scholars claimed the period spans from 1938 to 1949 and others say up to 1956. Despite
its range of year s controversy, they all agreed that, during this period the popularity of comic

Double Amputee
Deep in the Himalayas, a true monster lives. It has taken the lives of nearly 280 men. 5 ВЅ miles
tall,or 29,016 feet, it s the highest point on Earth. What is it? What is it called? It s name is
Everest, and it s the tallest mountain in the world.
With drive, heart and determination, anything is possible. Why is it so? Drive is like
incentive, giving you a reason to keep going.Heart is like courage, not letting you give up. And
determination is not letting anything get in your way just like disabled mountaineers.
Tom Whittaker was the first but not the last disabled mountaineer to climb Everest. He lost his right
leg in an auto accident, but didnВґt let that stop him.Even more than that, he paved the way for
other disabled people to make it to the roof of the world, like Mark Inglis.
Mark Inglis was the first double amputee to reach the summit of Mount Everest. What is a double

General Motors Manufacturing Case Summary
Executive summary
In spring 2010, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a successful joint venture between Toyota
Motor Co. and General Motors Co, shut down its plant in Fremont, California. Over two decades
NUMMI was a model manufacturing plant with high quality and productivity, exceptional worker s
satisfaction and attendance. What did NUMMI do to change the former GM s dysfunctional
disaster into best plant?
This report is going to examine a dramatic change conducted by NUMMI s leadership. It will
address three main reasons which made this change possible: Creating a new production system
Developing a new management system Reformation of corporate culture.
And finally, the recommendations will be identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NUMMI was created as a team based organization with sense of interdependence and unity. There
were just three level management levels; in contrast, old GM s plant had a six levels hierarchy. A
team leader, who was responsible not only for coordinating teamwork and trainings of team
members, but also was able to replace a team member on line if needed, represented the first level
of management. The second level management in addition was responsible for budgeting and
planning. Moreover, these managers were expected to resolve the problems at the lowest possible
level.
In order to foster fair and efficient environment NUMMI designed a new job structure;
specifically, job classifications were reduced from 81 to 3 with the same wage rate. Developed
reward system also tended to equalize rewards among employees. For instance, a team leader
received only a 50 cent hourly premium and each team was awarded with a small social budget.
Continual training system and information sharing among all team members let the company to
support its goals. Implementing the stop the line system allowed management to empower its
employees by pushing down responsibility for the production and quality at the lowest possible
level, to a worker. Meanwhile, the policy of mutual trust or no layoff policy established a real trust
between the company and employees by ensuring its workers to

Physical Barriers And The Immune System Defend The Body...
The world is full of bacteria and germs that is a fact. One of the many jobs our body has it to
protect us from harmful pathogens which is when our natural defense mechanisms kick in. Do we
know what these natural defense mechanisms are? Our body has an immune system and barriers
that play a part in preventing and/or battling the diseases attacking our body. Is there a difference
between the normal functions of the body and the response it triggers that provokes a defense
reaction?
Physical barriers and the Immune system defend the body against organisms that can cause
infection (Tunkel, 2015). The first line of defense is the physical and chemical barriers. Some
barriers include the skin, and urine flow. The skin being a primary barrier is

Bioengineering In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
As some of you already know, bioengineering is a way of using artificial tissues, organs, and
other components to replace those that are badly damaged or missing body parts. You could even
use it to replace limbs, such as arms and legs. The way they get these body parts is by genetically
engineering them to reproduce skin/bone cells into the tissues that later form the parts needed after
a matter of time. Now...*deeply concerned inhale*.....the monster that Victor Frankenstein has
created is far beyond the concept of bioengineering. What I mean by beyond is not the term of
revolutionary, it s just flat out twisted. Frankenstein has scrapped several limbs and organs from
morgues, slaughterhouses, and graves in order to achieve his goal. He wasn t... Show more content

right? There s only one problem. A single bolt of lightning contains TEN BILLION watts of
electricity. It s enough to power a small city or shut down the power depending on distribution.
However, this would be complete overkill if it struck a human directly. It would take a miracle for
someone to survive something like that, and if they did, they d be paralyzed from bottom to top.

A Successful Training Plan for Landslide Limousine Company
Introduction The purpose of this report is to communicate a successful training plan to Bradley
Stonefiled for his Landslide Limousine company. The report will contain three sections in the main
body: Needs Assessment, Training Methods and Evaluation Strategies. This report will contain all
the necessary information to put this company on the right track and begin enjoying a competitive
advantage once implemented and running at full capacity.
Needs Assessment Before any training begins, it is absolutely necessary that the problems are
identified so as to create a plan that specifically addresses these needs. Blindly training people on
random tasks does nothing to accomplish any mission. Only when focus and precise training is
applied in the correct area, will the organization begin to grow into something stronger. Brown
(2002) wrote to identify specific problem areas in the organization, HR and management must know
what the problems are so that the most appropriate training will be directed to those organizational
problems, (p.569.). The needs assessment portion of this training plan is further divided into five
different areas of interest. These include: Environmental analysis, organization analysis,
demographical analysis, operational analysis and individual analysis. Each part is important, and
when combined, present a comprehensive view of what is needed at Landslide.
Environment
The first place to look for a need to change is in the environment. This

Loyalty In Plato s Symposium
One type of love that is brought up by many speakers in Plato s Symposium is that of an older
man, around thirty, and a much younger boy, around thirteen. This love is rare in today s society,
but all of the speakers present feel the need to defend this pederasty, proving the increased role that
this love played in their society. Although this love was more common during the time of the
Symposium, there are similar types of relationships still occurring. Not all of these modern
relationships include sex as the old relationships did, but they still have the exchange of virtue and
wisdom that the past relationships did. Many of the speakers address the issue of pederasty
directly, and others do so indirectly through inferences and conclusions. During the course of

marrying and living together, which if given the opportunity could lower the amount of disgrace
among couples as the men and boys would be more likely to stay together. These type of laws
which regulate the types of love that are allowed, are often controversial especially since they could
not even say what they want to get for themselves from one another (p. 21). Since these pederast
relationships do not contribute to the advancement of the race through procreation, the polis may
see no reason to allow them to continue. To the people involved in the relationship, they are looking

France, as we know it today, is so much different from the France of yesteryear. About the fifteenth
century, the political system in France, gave rise to a socially stratified society which comprised
three different ranks of people, referred to as the Estates. The first Estate at the top was made up of
the clergy, the Second consisted of the nobility; with the commoners at the bottom rank, or Third
Estate. Within each rank were sub ranks, and each rank distinguished itself through conventions,

Sherman and Salisbury in their book, The West in the World, Vol. II , stated that the agricultural
revolution led to the reshaping of the Old Regime. They reasoned that France was able to
support a limited measure of population growth. However, the eighteenth century population
growth increased the demand for food, as well as for additional workers on the farm, if they
were to increase agricultural yield . Consequently, new methods of agricultural production were
employed and new crops were introduced. These innovative methods allowed fewer people to
work the fields , while still producing far more food than needed . This agricultural revolution
helped set the stage for an even greater economic transformation as rural lands were farmed for
subsistence into large controlled properties that produced crops for commerce. In addition,
Sherman and Salisbury noted that The agricultural revolution forced or freed people to work more
in nonagricultural jobs . One alternative was manufacturing. There was now a greater demand for
manufactured goods and for workers to produced them. The agricultural revolution ...altered the
ways by which many people earned a living, and these changes generate enormous new wealth .
Many people became involved in finance and trade and so they got rich quickly, and could live

The case of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka is one of the most profound cases in Canada. Paul
Bernardo is known as a Canadian serial killer and rapist, specifically in the southern Ontario area.
He came from a home of abuse and neglect. Despite his childhood, he graduated from University
of Toronto in the Scarborough area with a commerce and economics degree. This proved that Paul
was an intelligent intellectual who was seen as the average in society. In October of 1987, Paul

incident that Karla participated in, involved her younger sister Tammy Homolka. Paul and Karla
drugged and raped Tammy, during this time she, unfortunately suffocated on her own vomit. All of
these actions originated because Paul had a fetish with virgins, Karla was not a virgin when she
met Paul and therefore he convinced her to let him have sexual encounters with her sister who was

Caching Weapons Essay
Caching Firearms Ammunition Food and Gear
We have delved into this subject a number of times in previous articles, but like anything else
attitudes change or a situation arises that makes one stop and contemplate their actions thus far.
Common sense tells us that a cache should be such that if you arrive with nothing but the clothes
on your back you would have what is needed in the cache to survive going forward. Survive and
defend yourself, so this means firearms in each cache along with sufficient ammunition.
It All Sounds Good On Paper
A cache for an individual or even a family is a personal stash if you will, a collection of items that
the family or that the individual needs for survival.
When working with a team or group, however, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides firearms and Ammo, you need food, water, medical supplies, clothing, tools, and other
necessities, which in and of themselves could cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Typically, people have one or two good weapons and then several that get the job done but would
not be considered top of the line firearms. Any firearm you have is a good firearm, but when you
have choices, you have to choose wisely.
It s hard not to advocate one way or the other, hard because we here do have some personal
experience with caches. A firearm is a tool that has to be ready for use at all times under any
conditions. You need a reliable firearm on you, and you need a reliable firearm in a cache so if
you have to resupply you can maintain the same security status as before. Make your cache as
equal to or better than what you have close to hand and this includes, food, gear, medical supplies
and so on.
Forget about the first tier second tier firearms mumble jumble on the Internet. Leave all those flow
charts to military units. You are a family trying to survive, and to do so, you have to
overcompensate by having the best available at all times, less training means more equipment, gear,

Reflection On How I Learn English
This semester, you helped me learn that English isn t just about writing, that it is about learning,
too. You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can
cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much
added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the
WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An
assignment we did this yearwas shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I
probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was
shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to
read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book?
You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful
assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the
class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand
now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take
for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. So this lesson
about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing
that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been learned this
semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just personal
narratives or book reports. I just wasn t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first
semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next
part of this school year.
As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don
t care about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment
and when I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you
would try to help us more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your
strengths are that you are very

The scenes I selected on YouTube begin as he lies in Kim s bed in town and dissolve as he

him teaching Edward, you see his final gift to Edward before dying and leaving him alone, and you

In the film high key lighting represents regular humans. The lighting in town such as in Kim s

Post WW II and Japan Essay
World War II took place beginning at 1939 and ending in 1945. Japan was the last opposing
country to surrender to the US Allies on September 2nd, 1945. Ending the long, horrific seven year
war.
Upon Japan s admitted defeat, the U.S. invaded and took occupation of the country for seven years.
Though assumed to be a distressing circumstance and expected total domination, it was a benefit to
Japan, for the United States to take control of them, rather than being a disadvantage. The
occupation helped the recovery and development of Japan s economy and also clarified
understanding between the two countries.

Many Japanese people still felt bitter about the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which
they tried to exploit the immorality of it by writing books, bashing the U.S. President Truman and
the Americans. However, the U.S. government during the occupation period censored it.
Surprisingly, the American occupation wasn t such an unpleasant experience the Japanese
anticipated it to be. The occupation proved to be an important, constructive phase of Japanese
history, a veritable rebirth, comparable only to the Meiji Restoration (Reischauer 222). What the
Japanese expected the U.S. to be a vindictive and relentless sovereignty, were basically friendly and
fair minded people.
The Japanese, for their part, were far from the fanatical fighters the Americans had come to know
on the battlefield, and proved to be a docile, disciplined, cooperative people at home (Reichauer
222). The United States dominating of Japan transformed the brutal war charged with overt racism
into an amicable peace in which the issue of race seemed to have disappeared. The army of
occupation became an undisputed figure of authority, and the government and its people obeyed
without question.

Urinary Incontinence Assessment
Understanding Types of Urinary Incontinence, Assessments and Appropriate Intervention
Urinary incontinence (UI) can be defined as, involuntary leakage of urine to a degree that it is
troubling to a person (Mauk, p. 545). Not only it is a common problem for the elderly, which has a
tremendous impact on their quality of life, it is also a common health problems that affects more
than 17 millions of Americans (Testa, p. 82). Even though urinary incontinenceis a common
problem for the senior it is not a normal part of the aging process, however vast majority of people

It is essential for the nurse to have a proper and detailed assessment to determine the most likely
cause or type of UI. One of the most basic and least invasive assessment a nurse can do is to obtain
a complete history. A complete history must asked questions such as onset and duration,
aggravating factors, characteristics, medical history (medical conditions and medications),
associated symptoms, attempted treatments and severity (Testa, p. 83). There are also different
tools that a nurse can use such as the Urogenital Inventory/ Incontinence Impact Questionnaire and
Bladder Diary. Using questionnaires and bladder diary can be used in order to facilitate data
gathering for people who have difficulty discussing incontinence face to face. Thorough history can
provide insight and help identify potentially reversible causative factors and contributing risk
factors related to UI (Mauk, p. 553). It is also important to have a detailed physical assessment,
which focused on genitourinary system, abdominal, rectal and neurologic system, in order to
determine the pathophysiology of voiding problems. If the nurse suspects any cognitive impairment
from the initial assessment Mini Mental State Examination, Mini Cog, and/or Confusion

The Great Gatsby Weather Analysis
In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the weather sets a mood or follows the
emotion of the novel. Many people Change their mood in certain weather conditions, and in this
novel, the weather is symbolic of the mood in the novel. Fitzgerald uses the rainy weather in this
novel to symbolize several things. For example, on the day that Gatsby plans to meet with Daisy, it
is raining before they meet. The day agreed upon was pouring rain. At eleven o clock a man in a
raincoat dragging a lawn mower tapped at my front door and said that Mr. Gatsby had sent him
over to cut my grass. (Fitzgerald 88). In this situation, the rain represents an anxious and
hopelessness mood. When Gatsby arrived at Nick s house, he begins to doubt... Show more content

The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer. As my train
emerged from the tunnel into the sunlight, only the hot whistles of the National Biscuit Company
broke the simmering hush at noon. The straw seats of the car hovered on the edge of combustion;
the woman next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist and then, as her
newspaper dampened under her fingers, lapsed despairingly into the deep heat with a desolate cry
(120 121). This symbolizes the upcoming conflict and foreshadows the climax of emotions that are
to come, with the confrontation in the suite, Daisy s rejection, and Myrtle s death. The heat also
shows the mix and confusion of emotions in Daisy, and Daisy recognizes that ... it s so hot ... And
everything s so confused ... (125). This quote symbolizes Daisy and Gatsby s relationship. It is
when the weather is at it s hottest that Gatsby s and Daisy s relationship reaches a climax. Also
when Nick, Gatsby, Daisy, Jordan, and Tom are all sitting in the Plaza, the book describes the
daytime to also be unbearably hot. Oh, let s have fun, she begged him. It s too hot to fuss. He
didn t answer (126). This quote shows that as the weather progressively gets hotter so does the
tempers of Gatsby and Tom. The heat, in this case, symbolizes the way that hatred between Daisy s

Causes Of The Secession Crisis
Historians everywhere have many different ideas about why the Secession Crisis occurred.
Moreover, there are many debates about whether secession about slavery at all. Yet, the Secession
Crisis was a time in which many factors came into play.
The argument being made by McPherson in Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism is that even
though American Exceptionalism is a term that can be used loosely, such was not the case for
Southern Exceptionalism. Southern Exceptionalism is this idea that the period of time before,
during, and after the Civil War, the South managed to create another identity of itself, completely
separate from that of the North (McPherson 41). Furthermore, McPherson believes that the reason
for the Secession Crisis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gave many examples detailing why the bill was useless, one of them being that It is true that
some southerners cherished the hope of making Kansas the sixteeneth slave state, but even if
they had succeeded, it would have been a nominal and temporary triumph gained at excessive
cost (Fehrenbacher 90). Fehrenbacher explains how even if Kansas did become a slave state, by
looking at the whole picture, it was clear that ultimately the cons outweighed the pros. There was
no point and in the end it created even more anger. Overall, historians all over the world have
many ideas as to why the Secession Crisis occurred. McPherson believes that it is because of
Southern Exceptionalism, Gienapp believes it s because of the Slave Power, and Fehrenbacher
believes it s because of the Kansas Nebraska Act. However, though they all seem to have different
ideas they all have one thing in common: the trend. In his essay, McPherson does in fact bring up
the subject of slavery. In this entire essay, McPherson only speaks briefly about the effect that
slavery had on secession, stating that The fear that slavery was being hemmed in and threatened
with destruction contributed to the defensive aggressive style of Southern political behavior
(McPherson 46). Furthermore, McPherson uses slavery as a way to cement the idea of how the
North and South had this difference in beliefs, rather than bringing up the discussion of slavery

Jacques-Louis David s Influence On The Enlightenment
In 19th century France, the Neoclassical art style arose, influenced by the classical artistic style of
Greco Roman society. Around this time, France encountered many political, social and economic
changes brought up mostly by the lower class French citizens. Jacques Louis David was a highly
influential Neoclassical artist during this time. Commissioned by both Nobles and lower class
citizens of France, he created artworks such as the Oath of the Horatii (image 1), the Death of Marat
(image 2), and Napoleon Crossing the Alps (image 3). David s art represented the ideas of thinkers
of that time rather than just the ideals of that time. The purpose of David s art was to gain the
support of French citizens through artistic propaganda in order... Show more content on

Due to the time period in which David created art, some ideals of the enlightenment may have
been depicted, this, however, wasn t the main motive of David s art. The enlightenment was a
radically new synthesis of ideas about humanity, reason, nature, and God that had arisen during
classical Greek and Roman times and during the Renaissance (Stokstad 898). In Napoleon
Crossing the Alps, the central figure of the painting is Napoleon. He was a war general who
gained popularity through conquest before making himself emperor in 1804. In the painting, he
is the largest and clearest figure depicted. This painting goes against the ideas of the
enlightenment such as separation of powers, where power is split across three branches equally
so that no one person would hold too much power, which was a widely held ideal during the time
(Spielvogel 28). This painting does, however, serve as propaganda to depict Napoleon as a
strong leader because he is appearing to stay still and calm on a moving horse in order to show
that even through chaos he will remain a good leader for his people. Napoleon Crossing the Alps
conveys that the purpose of David s art wasn t to depict the ideals of the enlightenment, but to
influence the audience and to be used as

The progressive era in the United States is associated with political reforms and social change.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe.
Business firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other
hand, the American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in
the huge corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were
subjected to severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people.

Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a
significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the
conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The
Jungle caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment
of the Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business
competition techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from
the market.
The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The
New York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow
of money in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt
compared them to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff,
2009). However, the muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the
United States society. The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative
ways of doing things. Muckrakers played a significant role in exposing scandals, corruption, and
wastes, which could not have detected by the general population.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Analysis
If you re a human who s ever been bored, you ve probably taken a Buzzfeed quiz. If not, you re

Which Disney princess are you? to Will your choice of bread reveal how lonely you are? But let
s be real. Do these tests actually tell you anything? Most likely, the results are similar to a weekly
horoscope just vague enough to apply to almost anyone. However, if there was a quiz that could
analyze your personality and make well researched predictions about your future, would you take it?
The Myers Briggs Type IndicatorВ®, MBTIВ®, is said to do exactly that. According to opp.com,
the questionnaire was developed by Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers, mother and daughter
respectively, and published in 1943. They were not psychologists, but a teacher... Show more

Today, several versions of the quiz can be taken online, the most notable website being

answers may result in a longer completion time.
Students, particularly those looking to choose a career path, could benefit from taking this quiz. It
can validate what students already know about themselves or present new information from which
they can learn. The end report presents a myriad of data, such as strengths and weaknesses, what
type of career setting they would be most comfortable, habits in the workplace, relationship
explanations, and a conclusion that sums everything up in a few short paragraphs.
Although this test is interesting, what everyone must realize is that people are way more complex
than any personality test will tell them. No test can be 100% accurate for everyone and it shouldn
t be taken as gospel. This test organizes everyone into a box; learn from it, but don t let its walls

Bruce Tuckman Is The Theorist Who Designed The †Forming
Bruce Tuckman is the theorist who designed the Forming Storming Norming Performing theory in
1965. He added a fifth stage, adjourning, in the 1970s. This theory is based and focused on team
development and behaviour, and the stages and changes the team makes as they mature and grow.
It emphases that relationships will establish, and the leader changes their leadership style as the
team progresses. This development of team behaviour and managementstyle can be seen plainly in
the Tannenbaum and Schmidt Continuum, how the authority and freedom extended by the leader
to the team grows while the control of the leader decreases.
There is a specific order within his theory, staring from beginning to end. The order would be
forming, storming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This basically means that team members are wanting and looking for a new position. They do this
as they attempt to establish themselves within the team, letting them be known and try and make
relationships between themselves and the other members, or the leader. Little groups within the
team will begin to form, and therefore causing a power struggle to take place. In this stage the
leader will try and make sure that the team knows that they need to be focused on their goals, to
avoid becoming distracted by relationships and other emotional issues they may have.
Compromises and changes may be required to enable progress, so everything is fair and safe within
the team.
The third stage is norming, which means that agreement and accord largely forms among the team
and its members. The disagreements that happen in the first two stages have decreased, and roles
within the team have been firmly established. Also, the aims and objectives set by the leader are
done without disagreement. Big decisions are made by group agreement. Smaller decisions may be
given to individuals or small teams within group. Commitment and harmony within the team is
strong, meaning they are working well together. The team may engage in fun and social activities,
and therefore forming better relationships between people. This would only improve the way they
complete work

What Is The Purpose Of Hayy Ibn Yaqzan
At the close of Hayy Ibn Yaqzan, Hayy and Absal sail back to Hayy s island (p. 165). Why do they
do this? What is the significance of this episode within the larger aims of Tufayl s text?
In Ibn Tufayl s Hayy Ibn Yaqzan, he tells the story of how Hayy grew up and lived in isolation on
an island and how he came to discover the existence of God independently through philosophical
thought and observation. Tufayl then intertwines Hayy s religious narrative with Absal s, a
conventional religious follower who learns about religion through testimony. When Absal
introduces Hayy to his city, they become disillusioned with the general populace s indifference to
the ecstatic experience of encountering God and Truth and eventually decide to leave the city to
attain self enlightenment through asceticism on the island. This essay will thus argue that while
the episode can be interpreted as Tufayl s implicit rejection of traditional religion, the its larger...

necessary for Hayy s brand of religion for fleeting ecstatic encounters that Hayy could not
physically prove were possible. Therefore, Absal and Hayy become disillusioned by their apathy
because their form of religion would have become corrupted had they chosen to remain in the city.
This thus initially suggest that these two versions of religion are fundamentally incompatible and

  • 2. African Masculinity And The African Continent The African continent has been riddled with western ideologies and stereotypes for centuries. Even before the institution of colonization was implemented across the continent, western visitors who saw the world through their western ideologies and eyes labeled African men, women, and societies as barbaric, and inferior. These ideologies of Africans continued from slavery, to colonization and even into the ideology of western nations today. Africans today are working to change the ideologies placed on them by westerners and create their own definition of what it means to be an African. Through photographs, African artists such as Rotimi Fani Kayode are working to dispel ideologies about African masculinity that is now ingrained in the minds of many westerners. His photograph Adebiyi (1989), which translates to crown like this is one example of art that counters western ideologies about African men. He uses a striking image of a masculine man in a feminine pose to defiantly resist western ideologies of African masculinity and sexuality. His photograph is among the set of tools being used by many Africans to reimagine Africans in media across the world and redefine western ideologies about African men. In his essay The White of Their Eyes Stuart Hall defines ideology as a socially created idea that is reproduced (1990). Ideologies are present in every society and as they are repeated, they can generate and produce relationships of inequality. An us versus them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book was a bit of a challenge to read because e of the way that its written. Even though this reading isn t one of my favorites, it was a challenge for me, therefor it made me want to understand it more. I think that the discussion went well, many students shared their opinion, and for the most part, the subjects of the discussion intermingled. It was good to hear that many students shared some of the same thoughts. I think that this made the discussion interesting because they felt comfortable sharing their opinion and thoughts about the book. I really enjoyed leading discussion because I was forced to share my opinion and listen carefully to others in order to agree or disagree with what they said. Kevin and I met twice to talk about what we wanted to do for our presentation. We divided up the reading between us so that we could focus more in depth with the reading. I took ever the first half of the book and Kevin took over the second half. I would of like for Kevin to have spoken out more and be more active in the discussion because when we met, he had some really good points that would have added to the discussion. Overall, the discussion went really well, I actually wanted to continue discussing but we ran out of time. Analysis The fact that the book starts with what I consider the climax of the story, makes the reader want to read more in order to understand what caused the main character to ... Many of the health issues are caused by components very well known to us such as pollution, alcohol, drugs, sexually transmitted diseases, and so forth. Little was known about the fact that food, being an important necessity for human life, has started America s major epidemic among children and teens obesity. This gives the students no choice but to eat a healthy school lunch; of course, the students would be able to buy as much candy as they would like before and after school or during any extracurricular activity. Another proposed deterrent is the complete no sale of soda and candy anytime within school property, otherwise known as a ban. School officials observe the banishment as a major solution to decrease the rate of obesity among students in America. Even though Federal law prohibits the sale of foods containing little nutritional value in competition with the school lunch program (Vail 1), many parents repeatedly argue about the fact that this act of limitation eliminates their students freedom of choice. Several high school students agree. As spokesman for the Center of Consumer Freedom, John Doyle says, They can eliminate everything they want, and it will not do one thing to curb obesity (Egan 3). On the other hand, various school districts have postponed acts of limitation on fattening foods and beverages due to other reasons. The number one reason is the fact that the schools would lose thousands of dollars a year in lost contracts with food companies. According to an industry study, schools across the country get about $750 million annually from contract deals with companies who are granted permission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Smart Fat Research Paper Fat is often labeled as the reason for obesity however it seems like there is sufficient proof that fat in itself does not cause weight gain. In 1977, the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs recommended a dietary guideline that limited fat intake to no more than 30% per day. According to statistics, the instances of obesity started to increase around the same time fat was villanized and low fat products became more popular. Furthermore, similar studies claim that the war on fat led people to substitute butter and lard with processed low fat food which are high in artificial flavoring and sugar. More and more health enthusiasts are learning that not all fat is bad for the body. In fact, recently Dr. Jonny Bowden and Dr. Steven Masley, a nutritionexperts, published their book entitled Smart Fat, which details the benefits of consuming the right kind of fat to losing weight. ... The report will contain three sections in the main body: Needs Assessment, Training Methods and Evaluation Strategies. This report will contain all the necessary information to put this company on the right track and begin enjoying a competitive advantage once implemented and running at full capacity. Needs Assessment Before any training begins, it is absolutely necessary that the problems are identified so as to create a plan that specifically addresses these needs. Blindly training people on random tasks does nothing to accomplish any mission. Only when focus and precise training is applied in the correct area, will the organization begin to grow into something stronger. Brown (2002) wrote to identify specific problem areas in the organization, HR and management must know what the problems are so that the most appropriate training will be directed to those organizational problems, (p.569.). The needs assessment portion of this training plan is further divided into five different areas of interest. Although this love was more common during the time of the Symposium, there are similar types of relationships still occurring. Not all of these modern relationships include sex as the old relationships did, but they still have the exchange of virtue and wisdom that the past relationships did. You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this yearwas shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. One of the most basic and least invasive assessment a nurse can do is to obtain a complete history. A complete history must asked questions such as onset and duration, aggravating factors, characteristics, medical history (medical conditions and medications), associated symptoms, attempted treatments and severity (Testa, p. 83). There are also different tools that a nurse can use such as the Urogenital Inventory/ Incontinence Impact Questionnaire and Bladder Diary. Using questionnaires and bladder diary can be used in order to facilitate data gathering for people who have difficulty discussing incontinence face to face. Thorough history can provide insight and help identify potentially reversible causative factors and contributing risk factors related to UI (Mauk, p. 553). It is also important to have a detailed physical assessment, which focused on genitourinary system, abdominal, rectal and neurologic system, in order to determine the pathophysiology of voiding problems. Many people Change their mood in certain weather conditions, and in this novel, the weather is symbolic of the mood in the novel. Fitzgerald uses the rainy weather in this novel to symbolize several things. For example, on the day that Gatsby plans to meet with Daisy, it is raining before they meet. The day agreed upon was pouring rain. At eleven o clock a man in a raincoat dragging a lawn mower tapped at my front door and said that Mr. Gatsby had sent him over to cut my grass. (Fitzgerald 88). The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer. As my train emerged from the tunnel into the sunlight, only the hot whistles of the National Biscuit Company broke the simmering hush at noon. The straw seats of the car hovered on the edge of combustion; the woman next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist and then, as her newspaper dampened under her fingers, lapsed despairingly into the deep heat with a desolate cry (120 121). This symbolizes the upcoming conflict and foreshadows the climax of emotions that are to come, with the confrontation in the suite, Daisy s rejection, and Myrtle s death. The heat also shows the mix and confusion of emotions in Daisy, and Daisy recognizes that ... it s so hot ... And everything s so confused ... (125). This quote symbolizes Daisy and Gatsby s relationship. It is when the weather is at it s hottest that Gatsby s and Daisy s relationship reaches a climax. Also when Nick, Gatsby, Daisy, Jordan, and Tom are all sitting in the Plaza, the book describes the daytime to also be unbearably hot. Oh, let s have fun, she begged him. It s too hot to fuss. • 43. Causes Of The Secession Crisis Historians everywhere have many different ideas about why the Secession Crisis occurred. Moreover, there are many debates about whether secession about slavery at all. Yet, the Secession Crisis was a time in which many factors came into play. The argument being made by McPherson in Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism is that even though American Exceptionalism is a term that can be used loosely, such was not the case for Southern Exceptionalism. Southern Exceptionalism is this idea that the period of time before, during, and after the Civil War, the South managed to create another identity of itself, completely separate from that of the North (McPherson 41). Furthermore, McPherson believes that the reason for the Secession Crisis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He gave many examples detailing why the bill was useless, one of them being that It is true that some southerners cherished the hope of making Kansas the sixteeneth slave state, but even if they had succeeded, it would have been a nominal and temporary triumph gained at excessive cost (Fehrenbacher 90). Fehrenbacher explains how even if Kansas did become a slave state, by looking at the whole picture, it was clear that ultimately the cons outweighed the pros. There was no point and in the end it created even more anger. Overall, historians all over the world have many ideas as to why the Secession Crisis occurred. McPherson believes that it is because of Southern Exceptionalism, Gienapp believes it s because of the Slave Power, and Fehrenbacher believes it s because of the Kansas Nebraska Act. However, though they all seem to have different ideas they all have one thing in common: the trend. In his essay, McPherson does in fact bring up the subject of slavery. In this entire essay, McPherson only speaks briefly about the effect that slavery had on secession, stating that The fear that slavery was being hemmed in and threatened with destruction contributed to the defensive aggressive style of Southern political behavior (McPherson 46). Furthermore, McPherson uses slavery as a way to cement the idea of how the North and South had this difference in beliefs, rather than bringing up the discussion of slavery ... • 44. Jacques-Louis David s Influence On The Enlightenment In 19th century France, the Neoclassical art style arose, influenced by the classical artistic style of Greco Roman society. Around this time, France encountered many political, social and economic changes brought up mostly by the lower class French citizens. Jacques Louis David was a highly influential Neoclassical artist during this time. Commissioned by both Nobles and lower class citizens of France, he created artworks such as the Oath of the Horatii (image 1), the Death of Marat (image 2), and Napoleon Crossing the Alps (image 3). Due to the time period in which David created art, some ideals of the enlightenment may have been depicted, this, however, wasn t the main motive of David s art. The enlightenment was a radically new synthesis of ideas about humanity, reason, nature, and God that had arisen during classical Greek and Roman times and during the Renaissance (Stokstad 898). In Napoleon Crossing the Alps, the central figure of the painting is Napoleon. He was a war general who gained popularity through conquest before making himself emperor in 1804. In the painting, he is the largest and clearest figure depicted. This painting goes against the ideas of the enlightenment such as separation of powers, where power is split across three branches equally so that no one person would hold too much power, which was a widely held ideal during the time (Spielvogel 28). This painting does, however, serve as propaganda to depict Napoleon as a strong leader because he is appearing to stay still and calm on a moving horse in order to show that even through chaos he will remain a good leader for his people. Napoleon Crossing the Alps conveys that the purpose of David s art wasn t to depict the ideals of the enlightenment, but to influence the audience and to be used as ...
