POWER TRANSMISSION CORPORATION OF UTTARAKHAND (PITCUL)
 Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Ltd. is the power
transmission utility of the state of Uttarakhand formerly known as
Uttaranchal. On 9 November 2000, this 27th state of the Republic of India
was carved out of the Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of
Uttar Pradesh per the Uttar Pradesh State Re-Organization Act, 2000.
 The State of Uttaranchal in exercise of the power granted to it under
Section 63(4) .
 State Re-Organization Act, 2000, formed two separate companies in
power sector Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. for generation of hydro-
electricity in the state and Uttaranchal Power Corporation Ltd. for
transmission & distribution of electricity in the state.
 Single line diagram is a simplified notation for
representing a three-phase power system.
Electrical elements such as circuit breakers,
transformers, bus bars, and conductors are
shown by standardized schematic symbols.
Instead of representing each of three phases
with a separate line or terminal, only one
conductor is represented. It is a form of block
diagram graphically depicting the paths for
power flow between entities of the system.

 Transformer is a static
electromagnetic device
used to change the either
voltage or current level
keeping the total VA
constant.
 A 3-phase step down
transformer of rating
132kv/33kv is installed at
the sub-station.
 Transformers are static
devices, totally enclosed
and generally oil
immersed. Therefore,
chances of faults occurring
on them are very rare.
 A capacitor voltage
transformer (CVT or
CCVT), is a
transformer used in
power systems to step
down extra high
voltage signals and
provide a low voltage
signal, for metering or
operating a protective
relay.
 A line trap (HIGH-
FREQUENCY STOPPER)
is a maintenance-free
parallel resonant circuit,
mounted inline on high-
voltage(HV) AC
transmission power lines
to prevent the
transmission of high
frequency (40KHZ to
1000KHZ) carrier signals
of power line
communication to
unwanted destinations.
 A current transformer is a
type of transformer that is
used to measure AC current.
It produces an alternating
current in its secondary
which is proportional to AC
current in its primary.
Current Transformer are the
current sensing units of the
power system. The output of
the current transformers are
used in electronic equipment
and are widely used for
metering and protective
relays in the electrical power
industry.
 An Isolator is a circuit
breaking switch which
can only be operated
(either open or close) no
load. There are three
types of isolators used
in this particular sub-
station depending upon
their names
 TRANSFER ISOLATOR
 LIEN ISOLATOR
 BUS ISOLATOR
 The circuit breaker is one
of the most important unit
of electrical power system.
Circuit breaker is a
mechanical switching
device capable of making,
carrying and breaking
currents under normal
circuit conditions and also
making , carrying for a
specified time, and
automatically breaking
currents under specified
abnormal circuit
conditions such as those
of short-circuits(faults).
 This is same as that of
other circuit breakers (at
both 132kv and
 33kv sides) in both
construction and
operating mechanism
but used when some
 maintenance work is to
be done at any other
main circuit breaker
thus also known as
auxiliary circuit
breaker.
Overhead line insulators are used to separate line
conductors from each other and from the
supporting structures electrically.
 The insulators should have high permittivity so it
can withstand high electrical stresses.
 It should possess high mechanical strength to bear
the conductor load under worst loading
conditions.
 It should possess high mechanical strength to bear
the conductor load under worst loading
conditions.
 PIN ISOLATOR:-
Pin insulator is
earliest developed
overhead line
insulator, but still
popularly used in
power network up to
33kV system.
 The suspension
insulator separates the
line conductors and
supports them
electrically.
 Each unit operates the
voltage of about 11kV
and hence depending
upon the voltage the
appropriate number of
discs are connected in
series with the string.

POWER TRANSMISSION CORPORATION OF UTTARAKHAND (PITCUL)  Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Ltd. is the power transmission utility of the state of Uttarakhand formerly known as Uttaranchal. On 9 November 2000, this 27th state of the Republic of India was carved out of the Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh per the Uttar Pradesh State Re-Organization Act, 2000.  The State of Uttaranchal in exercise of the power granted to it under Section 63(4) .  State Re-Organization Act, 2000, formed two separate companies in power sector Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. for generation of hydro- electricity in the state and Uttaranchal Power Corporation Ltd. for transmission & distribution of electricity in the state.

  • 5.  Single line diagram is a simplified notation for representing a three-phase power system. Electrical elements such as circuit breakers, transformers, bus bars, and conductors are shown by standardized schematic symbols. Instead of representing each of three phases with a separate line or terminal, only one conductor is represented. It is a form of block diagram graphically depicting the paths for power flow between entities of the system.

  • 8.  Transformer is a static electromagnetic device used to change the either voltage or current level keeping the total VA constant.  A 3-phase step down transformer of rating 132kv/33kv is installed at the sub-station.  Transformers are static devices, totally enclosed and generally oil immersed. Therefore, chances of faults occurring on them are very rare.

  • 10.  A capacitor voltage transformer (CVT or CCVT), is a transformer used in power systems to step down extra high voltage signals and provide a low voltage signal, for metering or operating a protective relay.

  • 12.  A line trap (HIGH- FREQUENCY STOPPER) is a maintenance-free parallel resonant circuit, mounted inline on high- voltage(HV) AC transmission power lines to prevent the transmission of high frequency (40KHZ to 1000KHZ) carrier signals of power line communication to unwanted destinations.

Current Transformer are the current sensing units of the power system. The output of the current transformers are used in electronic equipment and are widely used for metering and protective relays in the electrical power industry.

  • 15.  The circuit breaker is one of the most important unit of electrical power system. Circuit breaker is a mechanical switching device capable of making, carrying and breaking currents under normal circuit conditions and also making , carrying for a specified time, and automatically breaking currents under specified abnormal circuit conditions such as those of short-circuits(faults).
  • 16.  This is same as that of other circuit breakers (at both 132kv and  33kv sides) in both construction and operating mechanism but used when some  maintenance work is to be done at any other main circuit breaker thus also known as auxiliary circuit breaker.

  • 19.  The suspension insulator separates the line conductors and supports them electrically.  Each unit operates the voltage of about 11kV and hence depending upon the voltage the appropriate number of discs are connected in series with the string.
