This session is designed to help Transforming Care Partnerships who are developing a workforce plan for the learning disabilities workforce in their locality. It gives an overview of workforce planning methodology and describes how you can use pen pictures to think about the workforce needs in relation to the requirements of the individuals that you serve. It also explains how planning your workforce should work alongside your service planning and service redesign. There are also signposts to sources of information that may be useful in developing a TCP workforce plan.
Topic Two: Employing expert by experience in commissioning
Guest speakers: Catherine Keay (Transforming Care Manager) and Jo Minchin (Autism Expert by Experience), South West Lincolnshire CCG
This topic covers the role of experts by experience when they are directly employed by a Clinical Commissioning Group. It outlines a dual role in relation to Care and Treatment Reviews with the CCG and involvement of people with lived experience and their carers through the Lincolnshire Autism Partnership Board and working groups, specifically the Involvement and Collaboration Group (the A Team Network). The session also covers progress with CTRs for people with autism from a CCG and EbE perspective, including local CCG CTRs, reasonable adjustments and accessibility, barriers and areas for development and achievements to date.
Building Connections in Student-Informed Mental Health
This document provides an overview of the ACCESS Open Minds program at the University of Alberta, which takes an innovative approach to student-informed mental health services. The program facilitates connections between individual students and services through a community brokerage model. It also facilitates interpersonal connections through the ACCESS OM Youth Council and a dedicated meeting space. The Youth Council engages the broader student community and collaborates with various campus services through the ACCESS Network. On a larger scale, the ACCESS OM program operates nationally and integrates youth voices at all levels of the organization to transform mental health services across Canada.

The project will involve co-production groups of older adults and younger people providing input into digital design and testing products. It will also involve working with an existing program called "Generations Active Together" that has university students lead physical activity sessions for older adults. Measures will assess experiences, attitudes and capacities of both older and younger participants.

The presentation was also provided an update on the policy refresh, what is happening and when, and a discussion about the role of the learning disability advisers in the programme.
Topic Two: Guidance for TCPs in relation to Children and Young People

The presentation considered how Transforming Care Partnerships can plan and deliver local support and services for children, young people and their families. This is ahead of the publication of “Developing support and services for children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism” later this year (November).
The presentation also considered each of the 9 principles of the Service Model: Supporting people with a learning disability and/or autism who display behaviour that challenges, including those with a mental health condition: Service model for commissioners of health and social care services, how they relate specifically to children and young people and what this will mean in terms of local commissioning intentions going forwards.

EYHC 2011: Tell Someone Who Cares!
This session explains the processes involved with getting a peer program of the ground at St. Johns Youth Service in South Australia. A major component to getting the program running was a research project that explored which participation models work best for peer programs. The finding of this research is presented here.

The education system in cuba
According to UNESCO, Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve all the measurable objectives of education. This is the conclusion the Global Monitoring Report on Education for All in 2015, UNESCO (UNESCO). The document is based on the framework of action proposed in 2000 at the World Education Forum in Dakar when governments from 164 countries committed themselves to goals as early childhood care, universal primary education, adult literacy and parity and gender equality. Only half of the countries in the world and Latin America achieved the goal of universal access to primary education. In Cuba, it is noble to be a teacher. In Cuba teachers are valued unlike Brazil. Cuban teachers earn salaries similar to those of doctors. It should be noted that Cuba is also a place where those who have good grades will have access to education regardless of origin or family income. But how do the comparison of Cuba with other countries if it does not have international indicators? Today, it is not possible to know whether a university in Cuba is better or worse than a Brazilian institution, the US or even China because Cuba does not participate in international databases and not of university rankings.
