This document outlines six problems with integrating tablet PCs into education: 1) Customizing tablets like the iPad is difficult for schools and teachers, 2) Tablets are affected by changes in the market as new devices are developed, 3) Teachers and students may lack sufficient IT literacy to effectively use tablets, 4) Tablets do not adequately support special needs applications, 5) Schools need to prepare wireless networks but they pose security risks, and 6) It is unclear what teaching materials should be used with tablets, whether digital or print. The conclusion is that Japan should not rush to introduce tablets into education given these challenges and risks.
