Malkapur implemented India's first 24/7 water supply scheme in 2010, sourcing water from the Koyana river. The scheme provides over 5,600 connections with 110 liters per capita per day (lpcd) of water. It was designed to meet the needs of a projected 2021 population of 61,000. Upgrades from previous intermittent schemes included new pipelines, water treatment infrastructure, and an automated meter reading system. The successful public-private partnership project has resulted in many benefits like reduced water wastage, electricity savings, and better water quality and services.
