Sustainable management of maquies in Meron Forest

Maquis in the mesic habitats of the Mediterranean region in Israel form a dense and almost impenetrable cover. The necessity to thin and open those maquis, are mainly to lower fire hazard, as well as increasing permeability, and improve ecological niches. Maquis sustainable management include: thinning and pruning, and moderate grazing thereafter. 1,300 dunam of maquis were chosen and surveyed. The average density was 81 tree/dunam which covered 20-78% of the land with 2-17 trunks per tree. Quercus calliprinus comprised 67% of the tree species. Furthermore, adaptive closure is due to shrubs and climbers. Our method is to thin most of the stems in each mother tree, excluding 2-3 of the wider. The side brunches of the remaining stems are pruned up to 2.2 meter. Grazing management is crucial for maintaining the sustainability of the maquis. This report evaluates the suitability of 250 acres of land along the Bosque River in Texas for northern bobwhite quail habitat. An evaluation tool was used to assess five habitat components: nesting cover, brood cover, protective cover, food, and interspersion. Each component was found to have a limiting factor. For nesting cover it was quantity, brood cover was accessibility to plants, protective cover was quantity of loafing areas, food was accessibility, and interspersion was distance to woody cover. Management recommendations include thinning forests, strip disking, prescribed burning, and replacing grass with native plants to improve all factors.

THE EFFECTS OF CLEARCUT SIZE ON THE BIRD COMMUNITY IN THE SECOND COLLEGE GRANT
Abstract. This study examines the effects of forest opening (clearcut) size on the surrounding forest-bird community with the objective of offering management suggestions for foresters who employ the clearcut method. I hypothesized that large and small clearcuts would have different effects on the forest-bird assemblage associated with each. I used the point-count method to assess bird abundance in clearcuts, on the edges, and 100 m into the forest from the edges of large and small clearcuts. I found that Neotropical migrant birds and forest-interior birds were the most affected by large clearcuts showing significantly lower abundance in forest areas 100 m from large clearcut edges than in forest areas 100 m from small clearcuts. Edge-open birds were more abundant in large clearcut openings and edges than in small clearcut openings and edges. Blue jays (an avian nest predator) were more abundant on the edges of large clearcuts than on the edges of small clearcuts. A recent study found that forest-interior bird abundance levels off after 100 m distance from small (0.4 ha) forest openings. This result combined with my findings suggest that small openings in the Second College Grant represent less of a disturbance to Neotropical migrants and forest-interior birds. Additionally, given higher abundances of an avian nest predator in large clearcuts, reproductive success could be much lower in areas associated with large clearcuts. Some species such as the White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis), however preferred large clearcuts suggesting that there are some benefits to overall bird abundance by including large clearcuts in a managed landscape.

Cordiaafricana(Lam.)is an economically and ecologically important component tree species of the Bamenda Highlands Forest which is under threat from over-exploitation. There is a need to develop high quality planting stock for increased availability and sustainability of the species. A study was carried out at the National Forestry Development Agency (ANAFOR) in Bamenda, North West of Cameroon, to evaluate the effect ofgrowth medium on sprouting and growth of vegetatively propagated C.africana(Lam.). Hardwood cuttings from lower branches of trees were grown in sand, sawdust, and a 1:1 sand: sawdust mixture in a non-mist propagator for three months. Data on percentage sprouting, days to sprouting, number of shoots, shoot height, stem diameter, stem volume, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area were subjected to analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Scheffé’s multiple means comparison test at 5% level of probability. While sawdust significantly reduced values of all the plant traits, no significant differences were detected between sand and the sand: sawdust mixture. The results show that sand and 1:1 sawdust: sand are suitable alternatives for propagation of C. africana(Lam.)from branch cuttings.

This study examined the effects of creating snags (standing dead trees) at different densities and distributions on avian nest survival rates in managed forest stands in Oregon from 2008-2010. Nest survival rates were monitored for several cavity-nesting bird species, such as chestnut-backed chickadees and house wrens. Results showed nest survival rates comparable to other studies and some species benefited from higher snag densities. However, benefits were limited by the rotation age of managed forest stands. Different strategies are needed to provide taller snags long-term for cavity-nesting birds in industrial forest landscapes.

במדרון דרומית מערבית לבת שלמה בצמוד לכביש נחל דליה נצפתה התייבשות של עצי אלון התבור. נראה שהתופעה אופיינית לתצורת יער אלון התבור עם מלווים מעוצים. תצורה זו נפוצה בשולי הקער של אלונים-מנשה בהתאמה למבנה מערכת הסלע-קרקע ומשק המים הקיים בו. המינים הנוספים גורמים לתחרות על משאבי המים וגורמים למצבי עקה של עצי האלון, בעיקר לאחר רצף של שנות בצורת. נוכחות היער על מפנה דרומי תלול מוסיפה למצב העקה. אחוז מסוים של התייבשות אינו פוגע בהכרח בהמשך קיום היער ויש להמשיך ולעקוב אחר התופעה. לסקירות נוספות ראה בקישור

סקרי צומח נערכו במרחב דרום ב-15 אתרים ביערות באר טוביה, גוברין, שדה צבי, רוחמה, מורן, אמציה, דבירה, להב, יתיר, דודאים, נחל עשן, משמר הנגב, עומר ונחל הבשור. באתרים אלה המשתרעים בין רמות המשקעים של 500-200 מ"מ בתחומים הים תיכוניים עד הערבתיים נמצאו ותוארו טיפוסים של שיחיות בתות ועשבוניים בהתאמה לבתי הגידול על סלעים וחומר אב של כורכר, קירטון, חמרה ולס והקרקעות שעליהם.
Vegetation survey was held in 15 sites in the northen Negev, Israel between the isohyets of 200-500 mm. The vegetation include shrubs, dwarf shrubs and hebaceous in semi-arid Mediterannean bata and Irano-Turanian Phytogeographical regions.

המסלע והקרקע הם הגורמים העיקריים לתפוצת יער אלון התבור ולמידת הצלחתו באזור אלונים-שפרעם, ומטרות המחקר היו לאמת את התצפיות ולמצוא את ההסבר להשפעת גורמים אלה. יער אלון התבור גדל באזור בית גידול של כיסי קרקע בתוך סלע קירטון המכוסה נארי. מי הגשם מחלחלים לתוך נקבובי הקירטון ובקיץ המים נעים באיטיות אל כיס הקרקע והשורשים. כיסי הקרקע הנמצאים בתוך המבנה של סלע הקרטון ושכבות הנארי, ועם התכונות ההדראוליות של הקרטון והנארי נוצר מעין עציץ מוגן לשורשים שאינו מתיבש הודות לעתודת המים הרבה שלו המאפשרת את השלמת הרטיבות. תכונות סלע הקרטון גם מאיטות את קצב ההתיבשות של שכבת הקרקע הרדודה ומונעים את התיבשותה המלאה. נבדקו גם

השריפה הגדולה בכרמל פרצה ביום 2.12.10. צוותי כיבוי רבים פעלו לכיבוי השריפה, וחלק נכבד בהם היו צוותים של כבאיות קק"ל שהגיעו מכל האזורים. ביום השני לשריפה הצטרפתי כחבר צוות שלישי לכבאית של גוש שגב בגליל המערבי, שפעלה באזור עוספיה-צומת דמון. הצוות כלל את נימר מפעיל הכבאית, סמי הכונן ואותי כמסייע בכיבוי, לצד חיילי צה"ל שסייעו בהתנדבות במשיכת הצינורות. התמונות שצילמתי בתוך כך נותנות מבט ייחודי על הכיבוי והשריפה מקרוב, שלא היה יכול להתקבל מכל התמונות של צלמים מקצועיים שהסתכלו על השריפה ממרחק מסוים. אפשר לראות את התקדמות חזית האש בחורש של תת היער, את שריפת הצמרות באורנים, את להבות האש ואת העשן

חידושי המחקר התבטאו בהתאמת שיטות למדידת הרטיבות בסלע; התאמת הכיול של מפזר ניטרונים בסלע עם שונות מרחבית רבה בעזרת מדד של מכ"ם אנטנות בור; התאמה של תפרוסת צומח לגאולוגיה ולמבנה מערכת הסלע-קרקע ברמה מפורטת, תוך הבנת החוקיות המרחבית באזור המחקר; הבנת הדינמיקה של החלחול, ההצטברות וקליטת המים של עצי האלון בעומק ובזמן בבתי הגידול השונים, בעיקר בתווך של סלע קרטוני; הצגת משק המים של שני בתי גידול מרכזיים ביער ובחורש הים תיכוני בישראל. הותוו עקרונות המאפשרים השלכת תוצאות המחקר לאזורים נוספים, תוך התחשבות בסוג הסלע, מבנה מערכת הסלע-קרקע ותנאי האקלים והמיקרואקלים.
The research innovations included: adaptation of methods of moisture measurements in the rock; adaptation of the calibration of the neutron probe in the rock, characterized by a great spatial variability, by the aid of borehole antenna radar measurements; agreement between the vegetation dispersal and geology, and understanding the spatial constistency in the investigated region; understanding the dynamics of percolation, water accumulation and uptake in depth and in time of oak trees in the various habitats, mainly in chalk; presentation of the water regime in two major Mediterranean formations, woodland and maquis, in Israel; outlining principles that enable implementation of the research results in other regions, considering the type of rock, the structure of the rock-soil system and the climatic and microclimatic conditions.

THE EFFECTS OF CLEARCUT SIZE ON THE BIRD COMMUNITY IN THE SECOND COLLEGE GRANT
Abstract. This study examines the effects of forest opening (clearcut) size on the surrounding forest-bird community with the objective of offering management suggestions for foresters who employ the clearcut method. I hypothesized that large and small clearcuts would have different effects on the forest-bird assemblage associated with each. I used the point-count method to assess bird abundance in clearcuts, on the edges, and 100 m into the forest from the edges of large and small clearcuts. I found that Neotropical migrant birds and forest-interior birds were the most affected by large clearcuts showing significantly lower abundance in forest areas 100 m from large clearcut edges than in forest areas 100 m from small clearcuts. Edge-open birds were more abundant in large clearcut openings and edges than in small clearcut openings and edges. Blue jays (an avian nest predator) were more abundant on the edges of large clearcuts than on the edges of small clearcuts. A recent study found that forest-interior bird abundance levels off after 100 m distance from small (0.4 ha) forest openings. This result combined with my findings suggest that small openings in the Second College Grant represent less of a disturbance to Neotropical migrants and forest-interior birds. Additionally, given higher abundances of an avian nest predator in large clearcuts, reproductive success could be much lower in areas associated with large clearcuts. Some species such as the White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis), however preferred large clearcuts suggesting that there are some benefits to overall bird abundance by including large clearcuts in a managed landscape.

[1] Seedling recruitment and advance regeneration was 3 times higher in harvested stands compared to uncut stands following mountain pine beetle outbreak. [2] Species composition of regeneration differed between cut and uncut stands. [3] Lodgepole pine growth increased in both cut and uncut stands but subalpine fir grew more poorly in cut stands.

Cordiaafricana(Lam.)is an economically and ecologically important component tree species of the Bamenda Highlands Forest which is under threat from over-exploitation. There is a need to develop high quality planting stock for increased availability and sustainability of the species. A study was carried out at the National Forestry Development Agency (ANAFOR) in Bamenda, North West of Cameroon, to evaluate the effect ofgrowth medium on sprouting and growth of vegetatively propagated C.africana(Lam.). Hardwood cuttings from lower branches of trees were grown in sand, sawdust, and a 1:1 sand: sawdust mixture in a non-mist propagator for three months. Data on percentage sprouting, days to sprouting, number of shoots, shoot height, stem diameter, stem volume, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area were subjected to analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Scheffé’s multiple means comparison test at 5% level of probability. While sawdust significantly reduced values of all the plant traits, no significant differences were detected between sand and the sand: sawdust mixture. The results show that sand and 1:1 sawdust: sand are suitable alternatives for propagation of C. africana(Lam.)from branch cuttings.

This study examined the effects of creating snags (standing dead trees) at different densities and distributions on avian nest survival rates in managed forest stands in Oregon from 2008-2010. Nest survival rates were monitored for several cavity-nesting bird species, such as chestnut-backed chickadees and house wrens. Results showed nest survival rates comparable to other studies and some species benefited from higher snag densities. However, benefits were limited by the rotation age of managed forest stands. Different strategies are needed to provide taller snags long-term for cavity-nesting birds in industrial forest landscapes.

219.08 Mg ha-1 in different study sites. The study concludes that moist deciduous forests of Doon Valley have the potential for
carbon sequestration. The study sites are also experiencing lot of anthropogenic pressures from the villages at the forest fringes.

EAB has since spread to 22 states and killed millions of ash trees. The document outlines the identification, life cycle, impacts and control methods of EAB. It also examines the potential threat of EAB to Oregon, which has one native ash species. To assess the risk, Oregon conducted extensive trapping of EAB in 2013 but did not detect any specimens.

התיבשות אלון התבור ליד בת שלמה
במדרון דרומית מערבית לבת שלמה בצמוד לכביש נחל דליה נצפתה התייבשות של עצי אלון התבור. נראה שהתופעה אופיינית לתצורת יער אלון התבור עם מלווים מעוצים. תצורה זו נפוצה בשולי הקער של אלונים-מנשה בהתאמה למבנה מערכת הסלע-קרקע ומשק המים הקיים בו. המינים הנוספים גורמים לתחרות על משאבי המים וגורמים למצבי עקה של עצי האלון, בעיקר לאחר רצף של שנות בצורת. נוכחות היער על מפנה דרומי תלול מוסיפה למצב העקה. אחוז מסוים של התייבשות אינו פוגע בהכרח בהמשך קיום היער ויש להמשיך ולעקוב אחר התופעה. לסקירות נוספות ראה בקישור

סקרי צומח דרום 2010
סקרי צומח נערכו במרחב דרום ב-15 אתרים ביערות באר טוביה, גוברין, שדה צבי, רוחמה, מורן, אמציה, דבירה, להב, יתיר, דודאים, נחל עשן, משמר הנגב, עומר ונחל הבשור. באתרים אלה המשתרעים בין רמות המשקעים של 500-200 מ"מ בתחומים הים תיכוניים עד הערבתיים נמצאו ותוארו טיפוסים של שיחיות בתות ועשבוניים בהתאמה לבתי הגידול על סלעים וחומר אב של כורכר, קירטון, חמרה ולס והקרקעות שעליהם.
Vegetation survey was held in 15 sites in the northen Negev, Israel between the isohyets of 200-500 mm. The vegetation include shrubs, dwarf shrubs and hebaceous in semi-arid Mediterannean bata and Irano-Turanian Phytogeographical regions.

מסלע וקרקע כגורם אקולוגי ביער אלון התבור באזור אלונים שפרעם. התפרסם בכתב העת "אקולוגיה וסביבה" (הראשון) כרך 6 חוברת 1 שנת 2000.
המסלע והקרקע הם הגורמים העיקריים לתפוצת יער אלון התבור ולמידת הצלחתו באזור אלונים-שפרעם, ומטרות המחקר היו לאמת את התצפיות ולמצוא את ההסבר להשפעת גורמים אלה. יער אלון התבור גדל באזור בית גידול של כיסי קרקע בתוך סלע קירטון המכוסה נארי. מי הגשם מחלחלים לתוך נקבובי הקירטון ובקיץ המים נעים באיטיות אל כיס הקרקע והשורשים. כיסי הקרקע הנמצאים בתוך המבנה של סלע הקרטון ושכבות הנארי, ועם התכונות ההדראוליות של הקרטון והנארי נוצר מעין עציץ מוגן לשורשים שאינו מתיבש הודות לעתודת המים הרבה שלו המאפשרת את השלמת הרטיבות. תכונות סלע הקרטון גם מאיטות את קצב ההתיבשות של שכבת הקרקע הרדודה ומונעים את התיבשותה המלאה. נבדקו גם

Effect of selective logging on the flora composition in the rainforest of Ghana
Selective logging has been used as a management tool in Ghana's forest reserves. This study assessed the effects of selective logging on species composition in Asenanyo River Forest Reserve. The study found 104 species from 33 families in logged and unlogged sites. Species diversity was high across all sites and not significantly different. Though species composition varied between sites, selective logging had no real impact on overall composition and abundance. The study concluded that selective logging can be used sustainably in Ghana's forests when proper felling cycles and techniques are followed.

הידרוגיאולוגיה בקירטון חבורות עבדת והר הצופים ברמת מנשה
דרשה הערכה של נתיבי הזרימה להזנת מעיינות בבשיפולי רמת מנשה ובמורדות לעמק יזרעאל, כדי להימנע מפגיעה בהם במהלך חפירת תעלות, המתוכננת לצורך הובלת צנרת ביוב לניקוז האזור כלפי מטה לכיוון העמק. כבסיס לחקר של המערכת ההידרוגיאולוגית מוצג סיכום של עבודות שעסקו בגאולוגיה ובהידרולוגיה של האזור ובחקר תהליכים הידרולוגיים בתווך הבלתי רווי של מערכת הסלע-קרקע, בעיקר של סביבת התצורות הקירטוניות של חבורת עבדת (אאוקן) ותצורת טקיה הנמצאת תחתיה.
בר (1983) שעבד בדרום רמת מנשה הגדיר שני תת אקוות של חב' יהודה, שביניהם קיימת חציצה של שכבות קירטוניות וחוואריות דפני (2012) כמעט מבטל כל תרומה של אקוות חב' עבדת. נראה שהערכתו אינה נכונה. וישקין (1973) התייחס הן לאקוות חב' יהודה והן לאקוות חב' עבדת, וביניהם אקוויקלוד של חב' הר הצופים, ועוד אקוות רדודות עליונות של יחידות צעירות מהנאוגן. גוטמן וגוטליב (1986) שעבדו בצפון רמת מנשה, הבדילו את אקוות חב' עבדת, שממנה נובעים מעיינות רמת מנשה מאקוות חב' יהודה. שדה ועמיתיו (2014) התרכזו בניתוח של עין כפר היושב על שבר דליה-כופריין.
המבנה הסטרוקטרלי של רמת מנשה: חשוב להבין את קיומה ומשמעותה של "הפרשה" של ארד (1955, 1965) שכונתה "אוכף דליה" על ידי בר (1983) (או "הרום הרוחבי", הר (2008). הר (2008), כהמשך לארד (1955), הציג את המבנה הכולל של סינקלינת אלונים-מנשה מנשה התחומה בין האנטיקלינות של כרמל ושומרון-נצרת. כשהסינקלינה עצמה מחולקת לרוחבה באותה פרשת מים שמקורה כנראה בקמר קדום קיימות שלוש מפות סטרוקטורליות: החל מהמפות על בסיס גג חב' יהודה של Arad (1965), המשך במפה של Fleischer & Gapsou (2002) ועד המפה על בסיס חב' הר הצופים של גורן, שכנאי ובן שבת (2014).
ספיקות וכיווני זרימה הוצגו בעבודות אלה. נתונים נוספים נלקחו מעבודות הר (2008) וממחקרים בקירטונים של חב' עבדת ברמת חובב של קבוצת רונית נתיב ז"ל.
אקולוגיה של התחדשות צומח לאחר שריפה ביער מורדות נצרת
נערך סקר אקולוגי-יערני בעומדי יער בתחום היער של מורדות נצרת לאחר שריפה. השריפה התרחשה באוקטובר 2021, והסקר נערך באביב שאחריו. הסקר היה משולב, כלל מדידות יערניות, ותיאור של מצב הצומח הטבעי באותם עומדי יער, ועל בסיס עומדי היער ובהתאמה לגורמי הסביבה. הרכב הצומח המקורי – תצורות הצומח בשטח לפני השריפה התחלקו בין חורשים (שנשלטו ע"י אלון מצוי, לבנה רפואי וחרוב) הצפופים יותר במפנה צפוני, קטע יער אלון התבור, שיחיות של אלת המסטיק, וקטעי עשבוניים רב שנתיים. באזור הר דבורה, קטעי חורש של אלון מצוי הינם רבים יותר.
עצמת השריפה: הייתה גבוהה במרבית המקומות. הנתונים עבורה נאספו לפי שלושה מדדים: (א)הערכה של כל עץ מה מידת העלווה הירוקה שלו בשלוש דרגות. (ב) הערכה של גודל השטח שנשרף (ג) הערכה של עוצמת השריפה על פי: (1) גובה השריפה על גזעי העצים והענפים, (2) מידת השריפה של עצי החורש, (3) מידת השריפה של שיחים. ממצא מעניין הוא שמידת שריפת העץ היתה גבוהה דווקא כשצפיפות היער הייתה נמוכה יחסית.
מידת ההתחדשות של מינים שונים: בעוצמת שריפה גבוהה יחסית, אלון מצוי בר זית, לבנה רפואי ושיחים מתחדשים מצוואר השורש. אלון התבור מתחדש מהענפים. חרוב ואלה א"י מתחדשים מהענפים בעוצמת שריפה לא גבוהה, ורק מצוואר השורש בעוצמה גבוהה. בעוצמת שריפה נמוכה, גם אלון מצוי עשוי להתחדש מהענפים.
מין בסכנת הכחדה ("אדום") - נמצא רק מין אחד, הוא אירוס נצרתי. הסקר נערך לאחר הפריחה כשהעלים היו כבר במצב של שלבי קמילה. ישנן עוד תצפיות קודמות של מספר פרטים או ריכוזים בקרבת הר כסולות שמיקומן מסומן במפות. התצפיות המזרחיות ביותר של המין הן בסביבת נחל ברק בן אבינועם שבין הר כסולות והר דבורה, בשכבת המינים האדומים של רט"ג. הפרטים שנמצאו הם שולי האוכלוסיה הגדולה הנמצאת על תצורת תמרת בהר יונה וסביבת נחל כסולות. רצוי לערוך סקר נוסף בזמן הפריחה בעיקר באזור הר כסולות . בסביבות הר דבורה ונחל דבורה לא נצפתה נוכחות של המין.
מינים נדירים – סומנו מינים הידועים כנדירים בגליל תחתון, חלקם מופיעים בריכוזים, כמו כנפה חרוקה או בולבוסן א"י, ואחרים בודדים. זה אינו קריטריון שיש דרישה לשמר על פיו, עם זאת, במקומות שנמצאים מינים אלה, ובכלל, רצוי לטפל בעונת הקיץ כשהחלק העל קרקעי של העשבוניים הרב שנתיים אינו במצב פעילות על פני השטח.

בכל שלבי הבניה ככל שהיינו ערנייים ופעלנו בזמן להצלת העצים, הצלחנו בדרך כלל להציל עצים ולאפשר את קיומם, גם כאשר נחתכו מרבית שורשיהם. העצים ממשיכים לקלוט מים מסלע הקירטון הנקבובי מתחתם ומפתחים מערכת שורשים היקפית בעזרת קרקע שנשארת ו\או מוספת בפעולת השימור.
על פי נסיוננו באלון הגליל, ניתן לשמר עצים גם בצמידות לבתים, ומרבית העצים שורדים בטיפול נכון גם כאשר נעשית חפירה עמוקה לידם.
בשלב העבודות, ניתן לפרוס בד יוטה על השורשים עם הקרקע החפורה, להרטיב ולהשקות לפחות יומיים בשבוע, ובתוך כך להשקות גם בצד השני של העץ שלא נחפר.
וכאשר ניתן, במהלך העבודות או בסיומן, מוקם קיר תומך היקפי, מילוי קרקע, והשקיה קבועה כמתואר בדפים הבאים.

העתקת אלונים באלון הגליל מרץ 2023
"33 עצים, מרביתם אלון התבור הועתקו מאתר ""היישוב הישן"" באלון הגליל כחלק מתוכנית של בניית שכונה חדשה במקום. עצי האלון הם חלק מיער הפארק של אלון התבור ב""גבעות אלונים"", שאלון הגליל נמצאת בצפונו. האלונים באלון הגליל גדלים בבית גידול הכולל קרקע רדודה וכיסי קרקע על סלע קירטון (גיר רך) נקבובי המתואר בהמשך. נקבובי הקירטון משמשים כמאגר מים המתחדש עם גשמי החורף. במהלך הקיץ, המים מהסלע נעים באיטיות לכיס הקרקע ולשורשים, וכך מתאפשר קיום היער והעצים במהלך השנה, ואף בשנות בצורת. עוד על בית הגידול ראו בקישור https://www.nirforestecosoil.com/rock-soil-veg2015 ועל משק המים של העצים בבית הגידול: https://www.nirforestecosoil.com/oak-water-dynamic2016
אזור אלון הגליל מהווה מעבר בין הקירטון שבמערב לאבן הגיר שבמזרח ובצפון, וקיימים כאן מעברים בין שני סוגי הסלע (ראו במפה ממול) העצים (כתמים ירוקים במפה) גדלים על הקירטון (במפה בוורוד) ואילו על אבן הגיר (במפה משובץ) קיימות קרחות יער. אזור היישוב הישן הוא על גבול קרחת יער ולכן מספר עצי האלון בו לא היה רב.

ההעתקה נעשתה בעיקר על פי הניסיון שרכשנו בהעתקת כאלף אלונים כשנבנה מחלף המוביל המתוארת בקישור https://www.nirforestecosoil.com/oaks, ובעזרת מפרטים נוספים. עצים שהועתקו אז ב-2006 נראים כיום סמוך למחלפון יפתחאל החדש בכניסה לאלון הגליל, ונראים גם על הגבעה בדרך לחנתון. שלבי העבודה היו: גיזום, חפירת תיחום, חציבה לעקירה, חביקת רצועה, הנפה, עטיפת גוש השורשים, הובלה, ריסוס השורשים נגד פטריות, חפירת בורות והצפה, נטיעה תוך הזרמת מים וכיסוי. בהמשך, הנחת מערכת טפטוף, סיוד הגזע, ומשחת גיזום על פזעי גיזום וקילוף גדולים
ההעתקה נמשכה מספר ימים בתחילת מרץ 2023. במהלך אפריל, כל העצים מלבלבים ברמות שונות. הטיפול בעצים עבר לאחריות גנן היישוב ונדרש עוד גימור והמשך טיפול ומעקב בשנה זו ובשנים הבאות, כדי לקדם את קליטת העצים.
סקר אקולוגי בחורשת ביר מכסור
"נערך סקר אקולוגי בחלקה של יער שפרעם הגובלת בכפר ביר אל מכסור בגליל התחתון. המיקום הוא מצפון לשכונת אל מכמן בחלקו הצפוני של הכפר ביר אל מכסור במורדות הר חנתון וגבעת מכמן. הסקר נערך בתוך חלקה 12 של היער, הנטוע בעצי אורן קפריסאי (Pinus brutia), אורן הצנובר (הגלעין) (Pinus pinea), ברוש מצוי (Cupressus sempervirens) ואקליפטוס מערבי (.Eucalyptus occidentalis)
מטרת הסקר – הכרת המערכת הטבעית ביער ובתת היער בשטח של כ-14 דונם המיועד לפארק שכוני למטרות ספורט ונופש לרווחת התושבים. סקירת ערכי טבע, סקירת אפשרויות הפיתוח והשפעתן, ובחינה של מידת ההשפעה של פיתוח השטח כפארק לקהל על ערכי הטבע.

מבנה השטח – השטח מתנקז לעמק בית נטופה, ולנחל יפתחאל הזורם במרכזה, כחלק מאגן נחל ציפורי, שהוא חלק מהאגן הגדול של נחל הקישון. הגובה מעל פני הים יורד מ-260 מ' בחלקו המערבי ל-240 בחלקו המזרחי בשיפוע של 10.6% לכיוון מזרח. ערוץ מקומי עובר דרכו לכיוון זה.
מבנה גאולוגי מסלע וקרקע – השטח נמצא בתוך המיגבה (ההורסט) של שפרעם התחום על ידי קווי שבר שכיוונם מצפון מזרח לדרום מערב (סנה, 2008). המיגבה גורם להרמת שכבות קדומות של חבורת יהודה שאינן נפוצות בחלק זה של הגליל התחתון. נחשפות התצורות של דולומיט סכנין מתקופת הקנומן, מעליה אבן גיר של תצורת בענה מתקופת הטורון, ומעליהן התצורות של חבורת הר הצופים: קירטון תצורת מנוחה ומעליה קירטון וחוואר של תצורות ע'רב וטקיה (ראה מפה 1). על פי המפה ניתן לראות שבתחום שטח החורשה נחשפת רק תצורת בענה. התצורות הנוספות נמצאות בקרבתה. הקרקע על אבן הגיר של תצורת בענה, כמו גם על דולומיט סכנין היא טרה רוסה חומה-אדומה.
השטח חולק בסקר ל-8 יחידות הניתנות לאפיון. בכל אחת מהיחידות נעשו מדידות יערניות ונרשמו צמחים ובעלי חיים. מרבית היחידות הוגדרו כתואמות איכות בית גידול ב', כלומר, טוב למדי, אך לא מיטבי. יחידה 2 (צפונית למגרש הספורט מתאימה לבית גידול א', ואילו יחידה 6 , של אורן הצנובר מתאימה לבית גידול ג'. הסיבות לכך הן ככל הנראה, שבית הגידול של אבן גיר וטרה רוסה (בניגוד לבית גידול של קירטון) אינו מחזיק מידה רבה של מים בקיץ, דבר המקשה על התפתחות העצים. אורן הצנובר, המהווה חלק ניכר מהיער מתאים מצד אחד לגידול על אבן גיר, כיוון שהוא רגיש לגירניות בקרקע, ובסביבה זו הגירניות נמוכה. אולם, מצד שני, הוא רגיש במיוחד לבית גידול יובשני יחסית, ושנות הבצורת הרבות שהיו מאז הנטיעה הקשו עליו.
"הצומח בתת היער - בעיקר דגניים רב שנתיים, שעורת הבולבוסין ונשרן הדוחן. גיאופיטים - נורית אסיה ושום האבקנים. מינים נדירים בגליל התחתון – נמצאו פרטים בודדים של תולענית דוקרנית (חד שנתי) ומרמר מצוי (בן שיח). הם אינם מוגדרים כנדירים בארץ, אך חשוב להכיר את מיקומם ולמנוע פגיעה בהם. יש גם סחף קרקע ומינים פולשים של אילנתה בלוטית, שיטה כחלכלה ועוד.
זריעי אלונים - בעיקר אלון התבור נמצאו מספר פרטים. נראה שתנאי ההצללה החלקית הקיימים ביער במצבו זה, שאינו צפוף מדי, ומאפשר חדירת אור, וההצללה החלקית מאפשרת שמירה של רטיבות בקרקע – תנאים אלה מאפשרים ככל הנראה קליטה של נבטים ואף התבססותם, כפי שנמצא במקומות נוספים בארץ. כדאי לטפח את הזריעים, להגן עליהם בשרוול, ואפשר לתת להם תוספת מים מספר פעמים בקיץ.

סקר אקולוגי בסביבת תל חוקוק 2023
"סקר אקולוגי נערך בתל (חורבת) חוקוק עם הזואולוג רועי טלבי כחלק מסקר מקיף שנערך בתחום תכנית יער עמיעד. לקראת הכנת התוכנית לפיתוח אזור התל, הושם דגש מיוחד על סביבה זו.
מיפוי צומח נערך בשלבי הסקר הקודמים. בגבעה של תל חוקוק ובסביבתה הקרובה על קירטון של תצורת תמרת המכוסה נארי תואר יער פתוח של שיזף מצוי עם אלה אטלנטית ואשחר א""י במספר הרכבים. בסביבת המעיין תואר יער צפוף של שיזף ואלה אטלנטית. על בזלת הכיסוי, במרכז התל נמצא יער פזור דמוי סוואנה של שיזף מצוי עם שיזף השיח. כך גם על קרקעות עמוקות יחסית בסביבתו. הסקר נעשה כחלק מהסקר האקולוגי הכולל בתכנית יער עמיעד המוצג כאן: [קישור לסקר עמיעד שהוצג קודם]

האלה האטלנטית ובית גידולה – האלה גדלה במקומות מסולעים ומחדירה את שורשיה לנארי ולקירטון המשמש לה מאגר מים. אלה אטלנטית מגיעה כאן לאחוז כיסוי של 30% מתוך העצים ביער הפתוח במדרון שבו כלל העצים מכסים 10% , ולכיסוי של 48% של מתוך היער הצפוף ליד המעיין שכיסויו הכולל הוא 80%. נוכחות זו של אלה אטלנטית היא יוצאת דופן וראויה לציון בסביבה זו ומהווה מופע מיוחד יחד עם השיזף.
השיזף המצוי גדל על קרקעות העמוקות יותר, ובחשיפות שנעשו בחפירות הארכיאולוגיות נראו שורשי השיזף מרוכזים במגע בין הקרקע והסלע, כך שגם השיזף נהנה מהמים האגורים בסלע.

צבאים - על הגבעה ראינו גללי צבאים של זכרים ונקבות, מתחת לשיזף ובשטח פתוח יחסית בין עצי השיזף. כזכור, בסקר שלנו ברכס לבנים מצאנו (הסוקר רועי פדרמן) גללי צבאים בשני פוליגונים, בשטח הנמצא ביער פזור דמוי סוואנה של שיזף מצוי, בדומה למצב כאן. תצפיות מאתר BIOGIS מראות תפוצה של צבאים מצפון למוביל הארצי, רק תצפית אחת בקרבת הסקר שלנו, ואוכלוסיה נוספת דרומית לנחל צלמון (דרומית לכביש 807). מפה כללית של רט"ג מראה לכאורה שיש קישוריות בין האוכלוסיות באזור. יתכן שגדר המוביל הארצי מהווה מחסום, אבל קשר היה יכול להתקים דרך נחל צלמון, דרך נחל עמוד ובקטעים נוספים. יש לבחון את מידת התנועה החופשית של צבאים באזור, ובזו מידה הפרטים שסימניהם ניצפו כאן קשורים לשאר האוכלוסיות ובמה אפשר להקל עליהם.
מערות ומאורות - במתלולי הנארי נוצרות מערות בתוך "הנארי התחתון" בחיפוי "הנארי העליון" ומערות בגדלים וצורות שונות משמשות לפעילות דורבנים וגיריות, ומערות גדולות משמשות לטורפים כמו זאב ו\או צבוע, ואף נמצאו שרידי עיזים במאורת טורף.
עטלפים – בתוך מערה באתר החפירות נמצא עטלף חרקים פרסף גדול. תצפית דומה, של פרט בודד של אותו מין, נמצא מצפון לעין חוקוק
ליד המעיין והפלג שמענו בלילה קולות של שועלים ותנים.
זוחלים - נראתה פעילות של נחשים כמו צפע (פרט מת ונשל) וזעמן מטבעות נשל. לטאות בתנועה – נראו חרדון מצוי ונחושית עינונית. נמצאו תטולות של מניפנית הגליל. בתקרות של מערות פתוחות יחסית.
דו חיים - קרפדות וצפרדעים נמצאו בתוך קרקע לחה בעת חשיפת באר, הועברו לפלג זורם סמוך ונקלטו היטב
סקר אקולוגי בתחום תוכנית יער עמיעד (יערות עמיעד ורכס לבנים) 2023
נערך סקר קרקע-צומח-ומכלול אקולוגי כחלק משלבי התכנון של תוכנית יער עמיעד הכולל את יערות עמיעד (בגליל העליון המזרחי) ורכס לבנים (בגליל התחתון המזרחי, החל מנחל צלמון)
השטח נמצא בשיפולים המזרחיים של קמר הרי הגליל ולכיוון בקע הירדן והכנרת. השטחים שנסקרו יכולים ללמד על החוקיות בצומח ובאקולוגיה של כלל השטח. ככל שמתרחקים מציר הקמר ומתקרבים לכנרת, מתבטאות חבורות גאולוגיות צעירות יותר. החל מחבורת יהודה העתיקה וחבורת הר הצופים בסביבת מחלף צלמון דרך חבורת עבדת מתקופת האאוקן (תצורות תמרת ומעליה תצורת בר כוכבא) הקיימת במרבית השטח, ועד תצורות צעירות מתקופת הנאוגן בקרבת הכנרת. ובנוסף, מצויים שטחים המכוסים בבזלת הכיסוי. חילופי מסלע גורמים לחילופי צומח. בנוסף לכך, הירידה לכיוון הכנרת מתבטאת בעליית הטמפרטורות, הגורמת לכשעצמה לשינויי צומח, בעיקר להגדלת רכיב השיזפים בתצורת הצומח דמוית הסוואנה. מכלול הגורמים הפיסיים מאפשר מגוון ביולוגי רב במערך שטחי הסקר.
התוכנית הכוללת הכרה של תצורות וטיפוסי הצומח ומיקום של מינים מוגנים ובסכנת הכחדה של צמחים ובעלי חיים, יוצרת תשתית של הכרת השטח כרקע לכל תכנון עתידי תוך שמירה על המערכת האקולוגית. ייעודי השטח המתוכננים מותאמים לתכונות השטח ולצרכים. השטח כפי שהוא כיום כולל שטחים פתוחים ומעט עומדים של יערות נטועים, ובו משולבים מספר יישובים, שטחים חקלאיים ומספר קטן של כבישים. תכנון נכון יאפשר שימור של המערכת האקולוגית לצד הנגשתה לטובת התושבים והמבקרים.

מערכת השורשים במרחב המרוצף - Urban tree root development under pavements Is...
נערכו חישופי שורשים תחת מדרכות וכבישים בתל אביב, בעיקר במקומות המיועדים לתחנות הרכבת הקלה ברח' אבן גבירול. במסגרת העבודות נדרשה עקירה של עצי מיש שניטעו כ-14 שנים לפני כן ב"תעלת גידול". העקירות המתוכננות איפשרו חישוף ולימוד של מערכות השורשים. למדנו ותיעדנו את השורשים, בליווי בדיקות קרקע. כך התאפשר להבין את התפרשות מערכות השורשים ואת הגורמים לאופן גידולם. התובנות העיקריות הן:
מלבד ציצת שורשים דקים מתחת לעצים עד לעומק של כ-50 ס"מ, שהוא תוצאה של הטפטוף בהשקיות תכופות סביב הגזע, בכל המצבים התפתחה מערכת שורשים רחבה ומעמיקה (לפחות עד עומק החפירות של 2.0-1.5 מ'), המתבססת בעיקר בקרקע המקומית הכוללת רכיב חרסיתי.
יתכן ש"תעלת גידול" נותנת מצע נוח התחלתי לגידול שורשים, אולם, עיקר התפרסות השורשים אינו מתקיים בה, אלא מתחתיה ובניצב לה, לשכבות האוצרות יותר מים, ולמקורות מים מזדמנים נוספים. נוכחנו שמלבד תנאים התחלתיים של "בית הגידול הראשוני" (בבור הנטיעה ואף בתעלת הגידול), חשוב קיום תנאים מתאימים בבית הגידול הכוללני, שהעץ יכול לפתח בו שורשים לרוחב ולעומק.

We studied the root systems of urban sidewalk trees, in relation to soil structure and properties, and compared them to root systems of trees in Israel’s natural maquis. Understanding the rock-soil-root interactions and hydrodynamics in natural habitats, can shed light on how trees grow in urban environments, which are difficult to study in situ and explain how urban trees survive the long and dry summers.
Natural forests and maquis in Israel grow mainly in rocky environments, with their roots inhibiting soil pockets surrounded by porous chalk which serves as a water reservoir. In summer, stored water diffuses from the chalk's capillary pores towards the soil pockets and into the roots. If the habitat is composed of dolomite, water stored at the bottom of karstic pockets is taken up by the roots. In the coastal plain where the soil is sandy red loam (Hamra), a deep layer of clay preserves water, is where most root hairs are found.
Our excavations for exposing root systems of sidewalk trees in Tel Aviv revealed that roots can extend over 10 m from the trees, and reach depths over 2.75 m, mostly in the clay layer of the Hamra. Our observations resolved a local debate concluding that urban tree growth is predominantly limited by water availability, and not by the lack of aeration.
Understanding that urban tree root systems under sidewalks, follow similar principles of roots in natural maquis ecosystems, could be the basis for future planning of tree planting and irrigation design in the city.
צריכת מים וקליטה באלונים מועתקים 2023
מדידה של צריכת המים נעשתה באלונים שהועתקו ב-2006 ממחלף המוביל למדרון ביר אל מכסור-חנתון. המדידה נעשתה במיכלים בשנים הראשונה עד השלישית אחרי ההעתקה והותאמה לעצים שהועתקו בשטח תוך משוב עם תגובת העצים. ומדידות טנסיומטרים שהוצבו בשטח. הערכות נוספות נעשו לאחר העתקה נוספת שנעשתה יחד עם נטיעת שתילים גדולים ביער נחל תות. שם הייתה עצירת צימוח שם ב-2014 שהובילה לחשיבה מחודשת.
את כמויות ההשקיה יש להתאים לבית הגידול. כשתשתית הסלע היא אבן גיר נדרשת השקיה רבה ותכופה יותר. בתקופה הראשונה אחרי הנטיעה נדרשת השקיה בכל יום, אותה ניתן לרווח החל מהחודש השני בהתאם לתגובת העצים וקריאות טנסיומטרים. ההשקיות בחנתון היו בתחילה אחת לשבועיים. מדידות הטנסיומטרים הראו שיש לצמצם את המרווחים. בנחל תות ניתנו כמויות מים קטנות מהנדרש, בעיקר בבית הגידול הקשה יחסית. בסיכום נראה שבשנה הראשונה, לאחר חודש הקליטה הראשונית, יש להשקות עד עד כ-20 ל' לעץ מועתק ליום. על פי אותן מדידות בשנה השניה ובהתאם למדידות טנסיומטרים באותה שנה, יש להשקות במאי בכמות של 40-30 ל' ליום לעץ ולהגיע באוגוסט ל-50-40 ל' לעץ ליום. נראה שבשנה השלישית רצוי להגיע להשקיה של 60 ל' לעץ ליום באוגוסט. לשתילים הגדולים בשנת הגידול השלישית יש לתת השקיות אחת לשבוע על פי חישוב של 15 ליטר ליום (75 ל' לעץ להשקיה שבועית), עם דשן חנקני לפי 85 ג' N צרוף לעץ לעונה.

סקר אקולוגי באזור אלקוש-פסוטה-נטועה
נערך סקר להכרה ומיפוי של שטחים הניתנים לנטיעה, באזור שבין אלקוש ונטועה, מדרום לפסוטה ומצפון לה, בטווח הגבהים 685-470 מעפה"י בכמות משקעים של כ-820 מ"מ בשנה. האזור נמצא מערבית לציר קמר הגליל, ובהתאם לכך, נטיית השכבות באזור הסקר הוא מערבה. מערכת העתקים מבתרת את השטח, בעיקר בכיוון בכיוון צפ'-מז' – דר'-מע', התואמת את כיוון השבירה העיקרי בגליל, וגם קוי שבר הניצבים לכיוון זה. השבירה יוצרת כאן מבנה מדורג, כך שהאזור הדרום מזרחי מונמך ביחס לאזור שמצפון לו, ולכן השתמרו בו שכבות צעירות יחסית, של חבורת הר הצופים, ובעיקר תצורת מנוחה מתקופת הסנון. בשאר השטח מתבטאת בעיקר תצורת בענה מתקופת הטורון.
תופעה מוכרת מסביבה זו היא המסה קרסטית נרחבת בדולומיט סכנין, שגרם לקריסתו. כתוצאה מכך נגרמה נחיתה של תצורת בענה שמעליה לתוך המפלס המקורי של תצורת סכנין. מצב זה גרם ככל הנראה לסידוק רב ואף ריסוק של תצורת בענה ולגבישי דולומיט בחלק מהסדקים, ולכך ישנן השלכות לתכונות בתי הגידול. כנראה שגם עמק עקרב הגובל בתחום הסקר נוצר כתוצאה מהמסה זו. תופעה נוספת שנגרמה מכך היא "חצרות סנוניות" שבהן בנוסף לתצורת בענה גם תצורות מחבורת הר הצופים שמעליה קרסו פנימה, והן הנראות על פני השטח. חצר כזו נמצאת ככל הנראה בצפון השטח בסמוך לנטועה. כתוצאה ממערכת מורכבת זו שלא הובנה כראוי, כנראה שהמיפוי הגאולוגי נותן מתווה כללי אך אינו מדויק.
נמצאה חלוקה מעניינת בין חורשים, יערות פארק, שיחיות, בתות, עשבוניים, וקטעים של חורש במופע מדוכא מרעיה. חורש אלון מצוי התפתח על גבי אבן גיר (המכיל ככל הנראה רכיבים דולומיטיים) שהתפתחו בו כיסי קרקע קרסטיים. על אבן גיר שאינה קרסטית מתפתחות תצורות עשבוניות בלבד, גם על מסלע חוורי שולט צומח עשבוני. הבתה מתפתחת על מסלע קירטוני.
נטיעה יכולה להיעשות ביחידות העשבוניים. ביחידת העשבוניים של מיני חרחבינה, עירית וקייצנית על קירטון חוורי רצוי להמנע מנטיעת מינים הרגישים לגירניות בקרקע. ניתן לטעת ביחידת הבתה, וביחידת השיחיה הנמצאת על שטח המופר בחלקו. ביחידת החורש המדוכא ובריכוזים נוספים של מינם מדוכאים, ניתן להגן על פרטים בעזרת גידור פרטני ולאחר גיזום
סקר אקולוגי כפר קיש
נערך סקר אקולוגי בשטח המיועד לנטיעה ביער כפר קיש. בתוך השטח הכולל של כ-30 קמ"ר, 7,579 דונם הם בייעודי נטיעה, באגני הניקוז של נחל קמה, נחל קיש ונחל רכש, המתנקזים לנחל תבור. סקר צומח נערך באביב 2018, וסקר משלים אחרי חורף גשום נערך ב-2019 וכלל סקר ציפורים
המסלע הוא על פני כל חתך הסלע המתחיל בבזלת התחתונה (מיוקן תיכון), דרך תצורות בירה וגשר (מיוקן עליון) ועד בזלת הכיסוי (פליוקן). תצורת בירה כוללת בתוכה שכבות של קירטון, חוור ואבן גיר (חלקם בהרכב דולומיטי) המשתנות ביניהן כתוצאה מתקופות בעלות אופי ימי ותקופות של אגם מים מתוקים-מליחים בזמן ההיווצרות. שינויים אלה גרמו להתפתחות של מגוון בתי גידול בשטח. שכבה של קירטון המכוסה נארי בראשי הגבעות משויכת ככל הנראה לתצורת גשר, ושכבה חווארית מתחתה היא החלק העליון של תצורת בירה.
סביבה זו של בזלות וסלעים בעלי אופי חוורי, ברמת משקעים של כ- 500-450 מ"מ, הביאו להתפתחות תצורות צומח מיעוטות צומח מעוצה, ובמיוחד מיעוט של עצים שאינם מגיעים ל-10% כיסוי באף אחת מהיחידות המדרוניות. הוגדרו יחידות צומח של יער פזור, בעיקר בשליטת אלה אטלנטית (1292 דונם), יער דמוי סוואנה בשליטת שיזף מצוי (594 ד') (כולל שכבת נחלים), שיחייה פזורה של שיזף השיח (459 ד'), בתה בינונית (763 ד'), בתה פתוחה של סירה קוצנית (527 ד') ועשבוניים רב שנתיים בשליטת שומר ושעורת הבולבוסין (3,813 ד').
המלצות לנטיעה ושימור – עצים בכיסוי גבוה יחסית יש רק בערוצי הנחלים, ומקומות אלה בדרך כלל אינם מומלצים לנטיעה. במספר מקומות ישנן תופעות של התחתרות וסחף קרקע בערוצים, ובהם רצוי לטפל, אפשר באמצעות סכרונים ונטיעות מתאימות. רצוי לרכז נטיעות במקומות שבהם אין כמעט צומח מעוצה, ואף קיימת רעיית יתר המשפיעה על הרכב המינים העשבוניים, כמו בעיקר ברמת סירין, באגן נחל קמה, ואף במקומות באגן נחל קיש. במקומות אחרים, ניתן לתכנן נטיעות בחלקים מהשטח, תוך שמירה על קטעים בלתי נטועים בכל אחד מטיפוסי הצומח שהוגדרו, ובכל אחד מהפוליגונים של יחידות אלו.
מינים נדירים ואדומים מסומנים במפה וקיימים בשכבות מידע. רצוי להמנע מנטיעות בקרבת אותם מינים, וכאשר תיעשה לידם נטיעה, יש לסמן את מיקומם מראש בעונת הפריחה.
סקר אקולוגי באגני נבטים-שה-נוקדים וצאן
"נערך סקר בכ-40,000 דונם של הפזורה הבדואית בין נבטים ורמת חובב בתחום של אגני הנחלים נבטים עד צאן מטרת הסקר היא הכרת השטח, בעיקר בשטחים המעובדים בתוכו.
השטח מתאפיין לרוב בגבעות מתונות, עם מדרונות שחלקם סלעיים, וחלקם כוללים שכבת קרקע, וביניהם ערוצים. טווח הגבהים הוא 445-330 מ' מעפה""י בשיפועי נחלים של 1-2.5% ושיפועי מדרונות של 6-16%. על הגבעות פזורים עשרות כפרירים בגדלים שונים. כל אגני הנחלים שנסקרו הם אגני משנה של חלקו הדרומי של אגן נחל באר שבע. תצורת הסלע ברוב השטח היא גיר קירטוני עד קירטון רך-בינוני של תצורת עדולם מתקופת האאוקן. הצומח הטבעי הוא לרוב בתה פתוחה עד פזורה, בשלטון של נואית קוצנית על המדרונות, וחמד המדבר על שטחי הלס. בערוצים נמצאות גם שיחייה פתוחה או פזורה בשליטת מתנן שעיר.
האוכלוסייה הבדואית החיה בשטח זה יצרו סיכרונים ולימנים בערוצים (חלקם על בסיס מערכות עתיקות), בהם מגדלים כרמי זיתים ומספר מינים נוספים של עצי פרי. בחלק מהמקומות המטעים מטופחים ויוצרים עומדים מלאים, ובחלקם נמצאים רק עצים בודדים. נראה שישנם גם גידולים מושקים שיש בהם השקעה רבה. בנוסף, ישנו עיבוד קרקע (קילטור בעיקר) וזריעה של דגניים (בעיקר שעורה), הן בלימנים בקטעים ללא עצים, והן במדרונות בקרקע רדודה (לעתים עומק הקרקע הוא סנטימטרים ספורים בלבד). בשנה זו שלא הייתה גשומה, בחלק מהמקומות לא הייתה זריעה, ובשטחים הזרועים, גובה הצמחים היה עד כ-15-10 ס""מ, ולרוב באחוז נביטה נמוך"
"הסקר כולל 24 תרשימי צומח בקטעים של מספר דונמים כל אחד, כולל רישום ותיאור של תנאי השטח, ועוד רישום צמחים בקטעים נוספים. נרשמו 101 מינים מ-29 משפחות, בעיקר ממשפחות המורכבים, הדגניים, פרפרניים והשושניים, בעיקר ממוצא ים תיכוני, אירנו טורני וסהרו ערבי.
תצפיות בעלי חיים ערכנו בסביבות אותם אתרי דיגום, ותצפיות רבות נוספות לאורך נתיבי התנועה. התצפיות נרשמו ב-GPS, כ-136 תצפיות. בסיכום שטחי שימושי השטח, השטחים המעובדים מהווים קרוב למחצית השטח.
הסומנו שטחים לשימור, הן כשטחי ""אל געת"" כדי לשמור על ערכי טבע, והן שטחים שקיים בהם סחף קרקע הדורש טיפול לעצירת התופעה. "

רקע
הגליל התחתון הדרומי, מקו המגע עם עמק יזרעאל בדרום ועד שבר בית קשת בצפון, מהווה מערכת גאולוגית ייחודית. המבנה הגאולוגי החשוף כולל תצורות סלע מכ-100 מיליוני השנים האחרונות, שתפרושתן המרחבית היא תולדה של פעילות טקטונית צעירה יחסית בעיקרה. מערך המסלע הוביל ליצירה של מגוון בתי-גידול והתפתחות מגוון של תצורות צומח בהתאמה.
מטרות המחקר
הכרת מערך המסלע, בתי הגידול והצומח באזור להבנת המערכת האקולוגית הכוללת.
שיטות
המבנה הגאולוגי נלמד בעזרת עבודות מיפוי קודמות ובסקרים סייסמיים. הצומח נלמד בסקרים אקולוגיים מחקריים לרוחב האזור, ובסקרי טבע ונוף של מכון דש"א. הבנת המערך הכולל נעשתה בעזרת אורדינציות וניתוח משווה.
תוצאות
התקמרות הגליל כחלק משדרת ההר המרכזית (קימוט "הקשת הסורית") חושפת במרכז השטח תצורות של חבורת יהודה (קנומן-טורון). אגפי הקמר חושפים תצורות צעירות יותר של חבורות הר הצופים (סנון) ועבדת (אאוקן). טקטוניקה צעירה (נאוגן) בסמיכות להעתק ים המלח, יצרה מערך העתקים ואגנים אשר השתפלותם לוותה בפעילות וולקנית. חדירת ים אל האגנים לפני כ-5 מיליוני שנים הותירה משקעים חוואריים.
יער פתוח של אלון התבור גדל על סלעי קירטון עם כיסי קרקע על גבי חבורת עבדת בגבעות אלונים ובאזור בית קשת, משני צידי הקמר. חורש אלון מצוי גדל ומעמיק שורש הן בסדקי קירטון רך, והן בקרקע בחללים קרסטיים. בחלק המזרחי, יער פזור דמוי-סוואנה של שיזף מצוי ושיחיות של שיזף השיח מפותחים על בזלות, ואלה אטלנטית פזורה על קירטון חווארי. בתות של סירה קוצנית ובני-שיח אחרים גדלים בעיקר על קירטון של חבורת הר הצופים, ועשבוניים רב-שנתיים על אבן גיר ובקרקע רדודה על בזלת.
דיון ומסקנות
המחקר הגאולוגי העדכני מציג את פסיפס המסלע באזור ואת החוקיות שיצרה אותו, ומאפשר לקבל תמונה של מערך תנאי השטח. הצומח מגיב לתנאי הסביבה, ובעיקר למשק המים בבית הגידול, כל מין והתאמותיו. ככל שיש יותר מים במערכת, מתפתחות תצורות צומח גבוהות יותר. כשניתן להעמיק שורש ולנצל את המימד האנכי מתפתח חורש. כיסי קרקע מאפשרים התפתחות של יער פתוח. במצבים אחרים מתפתחות שיחיות או בתות, ובבתי הגידול היובשניים גדלים עשבוניים בלבד.
סיור גיאולוגי בסינקלינת אלונים-מנשה 2022 - ניר הר
נערך סיור במסגרת כנס החברה הגיאולוגית 2022 סקרנו את סינקלית אלונים-מנשה לכל אורכה מדרום לצפון. הסינקלינה מחולקת לשני אגנים על ידי הרום הרוחבי. בחלק הדרומי, באגן חורשן, השכבות נוטות למרכז הסינקלינה הן מהאנטיקלינות של הכרמל ואום אל פחם והן מהרום הרוחבי.מרכז האגן משמר את השכבות הגבוהות ביותר בחתך. באגן הצפוני, החוקיות של נטית השכבות דומה, אולם, העתקי הגבול של עמק יזרעאל ושל הגליל התחתון יוצרים שינויים מקומיים נוספים. כיסוי הקרקע והתצורות הצעירות בסביבת עמק יזרעאל מכסים חלק מהמקומות העמוקים באגן זה.
"מטרות הסיור:
1. הכרת אפיוניה המיוחדים של סינקלינת אלונים-מנשה.
2. הכרת התצורות הגיאולוגיות, שינויי המופעים (הפציאס) שלהן כתוצאה משינויי עומק והשפעתם של אלו על נקבוביות הקירטון (עד אבן גיר).
3. הבנת תהליכים גאומורפולוגיים ופדוגנטיים- בעיקר היווצרות הנארי ותכונותיו, אשר עיצבו את הנוף ויצרו את מבנה מערכת הסלע-קרקע.
4. הבנת הדינמיקה של משק המים במערכת הסלע-קרקע-צומח והשפעתה על תצורות הצומח המתפתחות בכל מערכת.
5. הכרת תצורות הצומח ומיקומן בהתאמה לתשתית הגאולוגית.

מסלול הסיור – הסיור התחיל בהר חורשן, בחורש המפותח במרכז החלק המערבי של הסינקלינה, המשיך בחתך לרוחב הסינקלינה לגבעות חגית ובחתך לאורכה דרך המיגבה הרוחבי באזור אליקים. לאחר מכן, חצית עמק יזרעאל והתמקדות בתחנות עם יער אלון התבור בכיסי קרקע בנארי על קירטון של תצורת תמרת, חורש אלון מצוי על תצורת מראשה, ושיחיות, בתות ועשבוניים על קירטון קשה עד אבן גיר במופעי אבן הגיר של תצורות תמרת ועדולם.
סקר אקולוגי באזור עזוז-בארותיים 2021
נערך סקר אקולוגי ביער עזוז-בארותיים בסביבת החורשה ובערוצים הסמוכים וסביבתם, בשלוש עונות ואף ביניהן. הסקר נערך לצורך לימוד תנאי הסביבה של האזור המתוכנן כאתר קולט קהל כאתר מורשת וטבע ייחודית באזור מדברי זה בניהול קק"ל. האזור חולק לכ-18 תאי שטח בהתאם לאפיונים הגיאוגרפיים והתכסית, של מיקום ביחס לערוץ הנחל, פשט ההצפה, שלח הנחל והמדרונות והצומח הגדל בהם. תאי השטח שימשו בסיס לתצוגות במספר נושאים, להשוואות ועיבודים. בכל אחד מהם מוצגות תצורות וטיפוסי הצומח על מפות ובליווי תמונות בכל אחת מהעונות. מוצגות מפות של תכונות קרקע על פי בדיקות מעבדה שערכנו. מוצגות טבלאות, מפות ותמונות של בעלי חיים, עם דגש על תצפיות ציפורים. ונערכו עיבודים של השוואות בין פרמטרים שונים, כמו אורדינציה של הצומח ביחס לתנאי הסביבה ומפות השוואתיות של תצפיות במועדים שונים בנושאים שונים. לצורך הבנה מעמיקה של הממצאים, הבנה של בתי הגידול, הכוללים את נדבכי הסלע-קרקע-צומח, וההקשר של בעלי החיים לסביבות אלו.

בניגוד לארצות צפוניות בהן קיימים גשמי קיץ, הבעיה בארץ היא מחסור במים ולא מחסור באוויר, ובכך יש להתמקד, לצד הקמה של מערכות השקיה שיפתחו מערכות שורשים מיטבית ולא ייפגעו על ידי שורשים צפופים ורדודים. אנו לומדים את מבנה הקרקע והסלע ואת השונות בהם בעיר בעזרת שכבות מידע, ומבצעים חישופי שורשים בקטעים שבהם מתחייבת עקירת עצים לצורך חידוש תשתיות <קישור לקובץ התפתחות מערכת השורשים במרחב המרוצף> ראינו שבעצים שגודלו ב"תעלת גידול" התפתחה מערכת שורשים דקה וצפופה מתחת לצוואר השורש כתוצאה מממעגל הטפטוף הקטן שהיה סביב העץ, אבל שורשים פרצו לאורך תעלת הגידול ומתחתה על הקרקע החרסיתית בעומק, ואף בניצב לתעלת הגידול למרחק של מספר מטרים. נמשיך לקדם את מערכת ההשקיה הדו שלבית שבה לאחר 3-2 שנים של השקיה בשני עומקים בבור הנטיעה, נפעיל את מערכת ההשקיה לטווח ארוך הבנויה מזקפים שבהם יהיה טפטוף מים עד לעומק במרחק מהגזע. אנו בונים גם כיצד להימנע מהידוק (הנדרש על ידי מהנדסי התכן) באזור השורשים.

Increasing urbanization, rural–urban migration, rising standards of living, and rapid development associated with population growth have resulted in increased solid waste generation by industrial, domestic and other activities in Nairobi City. It has been noted in other contexts too that increasing population, changing consumption patterns, economic development, changing income, urbanization and industrialization all contribute to the increased generation of waste.
With the increasing urban population in Kenya, which is estimated to be growing at a rate higher than that of the country’s general population, waste generation and management is already a major challenge. The industrialization and urbanization process in the country, dominated by one major city – Nairobi, which has around four times the population of the next largest urban centre (Mombasa) – has witnessed an exponential increase in the generation of solid waste. It is projected that by 2030, about 50 per cent of the Kenyan population will be urban.
Aim:
A healthy, safe, secure and sustainable solid waste management system fit for a world – class city.
Improve and protect the public health of Nairobi residents and visitors.
Ecological health, diversity and productivity and maximize resource recovery through the participatory approach.
Goals:
Build awareness and capacity for source separation as essential components of sustainable waste management.
Build new environmentally sound infrastructure and systems for safe disposal of residual waste and replacing current dumpsites which should be commissioned.

Good Practices:
• Separation – recycling – marketing.
• Open dumpsite dandora dump site through public education on source separation of waste, of which the situation can be reversed.
• Nairobi is one of the C40 cities in this respect , various actors in the solid waste management space have adopted a variety of technologies to reduce short lived climate pollutants including source separation , recycling , marketing of the recycled products.
• Through the network, it should expect to benefit from expertise of the different actors in the network in terms of applicable technologies and practices in reducing the short-lived climate pollutants.
Good practices:
Despite the dismal collection of solid waste in Nairobi city, there are practices and activities of informal actors (CBOs, CBO-SACCOs and yard shop operators) and other formal industrial actors on solid waste collection, recycling and waste reduction.
Practices and activities of these actor groups are viewed as innovations with the potential to change the way solid waste is handled.

The popularity of functional foods among scientists and common people has been increasing day by day. Awareness and modernization make the consumer think better regarding food and nutrition. Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.

The incorporation of a 3DCSM and completion of HRSC provided a tool for enhanced, data-driven, decisions to support a change in remediation closure strategies. Currently, an approved pilot study has been obtained to shut-down the remediation systems (ISCO, P&T) and conduct a hydraulic study under non-pumping conditions. A separate micro-biological bench scale treatability study was competed that yielded positive results for an emerging innovative technology. As a result, a field pilot study has commenced with results expected in nine-twelve months. With the results of the hydraulic study, field pilot studies and an updated risk assessment leading site monitoring optimization cost lifecycle savings upwards of $15MM towards an alternatively evolved best available technology remediation closure strategy.

Results of geophysics and pneumatic injection pilot tests during 2003 – 2007 yielded significant positive results for injection delivery design and contaminant mass treatment, resulting in permanent shut-down of an existing groundwater Pump & Treat system.
Accessible source areas were subsequently removed (2011) by soil excavation and treated with the placement of Emulsified Vegetable Oil EVO and zero-valent iron ZVI to accelerate treatment of impacted groundwater in overburden and weathered fractured bedrock. Post pilot test and post remediation groundwater monitoring has included analyses of CVOCs, organic fatty acids, dissolved gases and QuantArray® -Chlor to quantify key microorganisms (e.g., Dehalococcoides, Dehalobacter, etc.) and functional genes (e.g., vinyl chloride reductase, methane monooxygenase, etc.) to assess potential for reductive dechlorination and aerobic cometabolism of CVOCs.
In 2022, the first commercial application of MetaArray™ was performed at the site. MetaArray™ utilizes statistical analysis, such as principal component analysis and multivariate analysis to provide evidence that reductive dechlorination is active or even that it is slowing. This creates actionable data allowing users to save money by making important site management decisions earlier.
The results of the MetaArray™ analysis’ support vector machine (SVM) identified groundwater monitoring wells with a 80% confidence that were characterized as either Limited for Reductive Decholorination or had a High Reductive Reduction Dechlorination potential. The results of MetaArray™ will be used to further optimize the site’s post remediation monitoring program for monitored natural attenuation.

Water polluted by dyestuffs compounds is a global threat to health and the environment; accordingly, we prepared a green novel sorbent chemical and Physical system from an algae, chitosan and chitosan nanoparticle and impregnated with algae with chitosan nanocomposite for the sorption of Malachite green dye from water. The algae with chitosan nanocomposite by a simple method and used as a recyclable and effective adsorbent for the removal of malachite green dye from aqueous solutions. Algae, chitosan, chitosan nanoparticle and algae with chitosan nanocomposite were characterized using different physicochemical methods. The functional groups and chemical compounds found in algae, chitosan, chitosan algae, chitosan nanoparticle, and chitosan nanoparticle with algae were identified using FTIR, SEM, and TGADTA/DTG techniques. The optimal adsorption conditions, different dosages, pH and Temperature the amount of algae with chitosan nanocomposite were determined. At optimized conditions and the batch equilibrium studies more than 99% of the dye was removed. The adsorption process data matched well kinetics showed that the reaction order for dye varied with pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order. Furthermore, the maximum adsorption capacity of the algae with chitosan nanocomposite toward malachite green dye reached as high as 15.5mg/g, respectively. Finally, multiple times reusing of algae with chitosan nanocomposite and removing dye from a real wastewater has made it a promising and attractive option for further practical applications.

Water contamination is one of the major causes of water borne diseases worldwide. In Kenya, approximately 43% of people lack access to potable water due to human contamination. River Kuywa water is currently experiencing contamination due to human activities. Its water is widely used for domestic, agricultural, industrial and recreational purposes. This study aimed at characterizing bacteria and fungi in river Kuywa water. Water samples were randomly collected from four sites of the river: site A (Matisi), site B (Ngwelo), site C (Nzoia water pump) and site D (Chalicha), during the dry season (January-March 2018) and wet season (April-July 2018) and were transported to Maseno University Microbiology and plant pathology laboratory for analysis. The characterization and identification of bacteria and fungi were carried out using standard microbiological techniques. Nine bacterial genera and three fungi were identified from Kuywa river water. Clostridium spp., Staphylococcus spp., Enterobacter spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp. and Salmonella spp. Fungi were Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus flavus complex and Penicillium species. Wet season recorded highest bacterial and fungal counts (6.61-7.66 and 3.83-6.75cfu/ml) respectively. The results indicated that the river Kuywa water is polluted and therefore unsafe for human consumption before treatment. It is therefore recommended that the communities to ensure that they boil water especially for drinking.
