In this presentation, Srijan talks about trends in the field of Internet of Things and feels that "Smart farming" and "Smart cities" might be the where the innovation will happen in this space.

2. Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a self-configuring system
consisting of networks of sensors and smart objects
whose purpose is to interconnect “all” things, including
every day and industrial objects, in such a way as to
make them intelligent, programmable and more
capable of interacting with humans and also among
themselves.
IoT is the future evolution of Internet, the latter being
evolved from the ARPANET.
Ideal of IoT can be a reality as there are more connected
devices on earth than the people.
Meaningful conclusions can be drawn by analyzing the
data from the devices and sensors.

3. oThe data is being collected from Sensors/devices.
oCollected data is transferred to Cloud
(the backbone of IoT) through internet.
o Data collected is processed by effective algorithms in
the analytics part.
oThe meaningful information thus obtained is used for
actuation by automation or by user defined
commands.(here using mobile)
Introduction
oThe machines
may also
communicate with
each other (M-M)in
the process.
4. Trends
The IoT’s potential helps us solve some of the
toughest and complex problems.
They include
#Resource management.
#Energy Conservation.
#Food Crisis.
#Effective study of Consumer trends.
The IoT also plays a key role in the following areas
1. Smart Cities
2. Smart Homes
3. Smart HealthCare
4. Smart Farming
5. Industrial Automation
5. Trends
The maximum potential of IoT will be harvested at the
earliest in Two fields
1. Smart Farming
Reasons being
With growing population the demand for food
production is also growing exponentially.
The Global food production has to be increased by
25% in five years with the limited land, water and
skilled labour available.
2.Smart Cities
With the increasing urban population, the cities should
be able to with stand problems like energy crisis, water
crisis, traffic congestion, degrading air quality etc.
This issue is recognized globally and many countries
have started to build Smart Cities.
6. Interested Areas
IoT has a tremendous business potential as well as
Humanitarian Scope.
It can be used to attain sustainable development
as well as attain a good stake in the market.
I am interested in developing aids for attaining the
ideal of smart cities like Air quality monitoring, Real
time traffic monitoring and smart grid based
energy distribution systems.
Also developing Water Resource management
tools for smart farming
If given an internship , I am interested to work in
processing the data stream from IoT enabled
devices and Networking the devices.
