Within this power point, I am
going to cover each question I
asked in the questionnaire and
give a more detailed analysis on
the responses.
The first question was ‘How often
do you watch films?’The results
show that 60% watch films once a
week and 40% watch more than
once a week. This suggests that
film is still a strong interest for
many people which reflects the
hobbies of my target audience.
The next question I asked was ‘What
is your age?’ Most of the participants
were aged between 15 and 18 with
60% being in this category and 40%
meeting the 19-25 option. This shows
that my target audience are of a
younger age group as they are still
able to spend a lot of time watching
films/ television. By knowing my
target audience is based on a younger
scale I am able to ensure my film is
targeted at this age group by using
conventions such as stereotypical
masculine features and stereotypical
feminine aspects throughout the film
as this is what a younger audience
would be captured by as they are
influenced by what they see.
I then asked ‘What is your gender?’ with 60% being female and 40% being male.
This gives me a good indication that I will be catering for mainly a female
audience although the genre is flexible towards both genders.
The audience is going to be a stronger female focus group as females prefer the
romance genre in comparison to a male audience as females enjoy watching a
fantasy relationship that is a ‘perfect’ relationship or reflects the ‘ideal’
relationship. Romance films normally use a stereotypical masculine male
character, which is another reason as to why there is a stronger female audience.
My following question was ‘What is your
favourite romantic films out of the
following?’This question I used some of
the most successful contemporary
romance films that are well known. The
favourite film was ‘The Notebook’ with
80% and ‘The Vow’ was just 20%. The
Notebook was extremely successful and I
believe this is due to the in depth storyline
that really captures the audience. The
audience watch the couple from over a
long period of time, whereas other
existing films such as ‘The Vow’ and
‘Dear John’ are over a shorter period of
time. By setting the film over a longer
time period it allows the audience to feel
as though they get to know the characters
and this enables them to invest in the
characters- creating a stronger film.
The next question I asked ‘What is your
preferred sub-genre?’ to see what my
audience preferred out of the following;
Action/ adventure romance, dramatic
romance or Romantic Comedy.
The overall stronger answer was Action/
adventure which is because this sub-genre
is far more flexible towards both genders
and is enjoyed by a wider target audience.
In my trailer, I will not create a action/
adventure romance as I do not have the
equipment to be able to produce an
effective trailer of this genre but it is
interesting to see that this genre is the
preferred genre while Romantic drama
scored only 20% and ROM-COM scoring
20% as well.
The following question ‘What are your
main hobbies?’ allows me to study the
psychographic of my audience which
allows me to see what they would be
able to relate to in my trailer which
would make it more successful with my
target audience as they would be able to
invest in the characters and the storyline
more.
So the main hobby was Sports with 60%
which shows that my audience would be
able to relate to a masculine character
who played a lot of sport for example.
Meeting with friends got 20% which
shows that the audience would be able to
relate to my characters being surrounded
by friends etc. living a normal life style.
