1. WHAT IS YOUR GENDER?
From looking at these results, shows that the number of male to female ration
have are 10,10. Which helps my team to gain responses from both genders
equally and to ensure that it is not gender biased which could the answers and
overall results. As 50% both males and females are answering this survey, just
shows that horror is aimed and targeted for both genders.

2. Question 2 suggests that the
most popular age group to watch
horror are 20 -24 years, 30%, 16-
19 years, and lastly 25% are 25+.
Overall the people who came
about to answer this survey are
all young people who like to be
frightened for enjoyment and
entertainment. It’s important to
see the age range as we want to
create a film for that age group
and it must follow the age rate
system. All horror films are rate
16/18+ which explains why all 20
people who answered are young.

3. From these results we can
see that the favourite
genres from our responses
are Horror (9) and Thriller
(5). Usually horror and
thriller films have
overlapping themes and
this is something we will be
able to achieve to appeal to
our audience. This also
shows us that not only do
our target audience enjoy
horror films, for 45% of
them it is there favourite.

4. The favourite sub-genre of
horror is supernatural (10). This
relates to our audience as we
are making a supernatural
horror trailer and this shows us
that a lot of our responses
come from people that watch a
lot of supernatural horror
making it more reliable.
The second most popular was
Psychological Thriller (5) which
we will look into to helping us
relate to our target audiences
wants.

response for favorite Horror
Director. This is a good result
because he is linked very
closely to our genre and it
allows us to know what our
audience like and we can tap
into his work and apply his
ideas to our trailer. We will
take inspiration from the
trailers for Insidious and the
Conjuring and also watch
trailers from the other
directors as all were liked by
our audience.

6. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO SEE IN HORROR FILMS
TRAILERS?
After analysing the various responses, I have found out that
people would prefer to have a trailer that doesn’t give too
much away to avoid “spoilers,” Therefore my team will have to
be careful in providing to much information on the plot as it
only needs to be a “briefing of the story.”
A few people would like to see lots of special effects, makeup,
costumes and props included in the trailer to maybe add more
characterisation of the actors in the film and to add more
realism to the horror film.
Some have stated that they want “suspense” and cliff-hangers
to ensure that the film trailer is saving the main parts for the
film. This ensures that the audience are compelled and
interested - wanting to know more and leaves a mysterious
effect.
Moreover, a handful have stated that they want jump scares to
get the audience hooked, to show how scary this film really is.

7. From these results we can see what our target audience doesn’t
like about horror films which will help us to filter what we will
include in our trailer. Many of the responses link to the films
being predictable, unrealistic and just made up of just jump
scares. This shows us that we will need to make our storyline
something that is inspired by a real life story or making it seem
like its something that could happen. We also need to show some
sort of twist in the plot so that the story isn’t too predictable and
make sure that in our trailer we don’t just show jump scares or
fake looking scenes/props/makeup.

8. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO SEE IN A SUPERNATURAL
HORROR FILM TRAILER?
Many of our participants said that within a
Supernatural Horror film trailer they expected to
see different iconography symbols that are linked
with this genre such as blood, religious items e.g.
Rosary/Bible, some sort of supernatural ghost and
the story is based around a family and set in a
home. They also mentioned how there must be
surprises that shock/scare the audience, scenes
that keep them on their toes. Though the trailer
must not give away any of the keys parts of the
film. Lighting should be used to help build up
tension and create suspense that the audience will
find intriguing. The characters should be going
through some sort of dilemma to do with one of
them being possessed or hunted.

9. From the results of this question we
found out that the majority of our
participants hear about new
upcoming films through Social Media
(75%) with TV advertising being
second (50%). Due to the fact that
our target audience are young, they
are between the ages of 15-25 they
are most likely to be really into Social
Media, meaning that they spend
most of their time using different
Social Networks where they can find
many advertisement for new
upcoming films. 20% of our
participants said that
Posters/Billboards were how they
found out about new upcoming films.
This will help us when advertising our
Film Trailer as it let’s us know what
form of advertisement tool to use.

Most people enjoy the way Supernatural
Horrors play on their emotions and create
the feeling of suspense. Also, how
effective music is in creating the trailer
and the way it adds more tension.
Supernatural Horror allows you to suspend
your disbelief and watch the film as
though it were real. People also expressed
there like for fx makeup in horror films
which is something we will incorporate in
our trailer.
