The demand to preserve raw image data for further processing has been increased with the hasty growth of digital technology. In medical industry the images are generally in the form of sequences which are much correlated. These images are very important and hence lossless compression Technique is required to reduce the number of bits to store these image sequences and take less time to transmit over the network The proposed compression method combines Super-Spatial Structure Prediction with inter-frame coding that includes Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation to achieve higher compression ratio. Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation is made with the fast block-matching process Inverse Diamond Search method. To enhance the compression ratio we propose a new scheme Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem (BCH). Results are compared in terms of compression ratio and Bits per pixel to the prior arts. Experimental results of our proposed algorithm for medical image sequences achieve 30% more reduction than the other state-of-the-art lossless image compression methods.

In the field of digital data there is a demand in bandwidth for the transmission of the videos and images all over the worlds. So in order to reduce the storage space in the field of image applications there is need for the image compression process with lesser transmission bandwidth. So in this paper we are proposing a new image compression technique for the compression of the satellite images by using the Region of Interest (ROI) based on the lossy image technique called the Quantization encoding algorithm for the compression. The performance of our method can be evaluated and analyzing the PSNR values of the output images.

Image Super resolution is used to upscale the low resolution Images. It is also known as image upscaling. This paper focuses on upscaling of compressed images with interpolation based Single Image Super Resolution technique. A content adaptive interpolation method of image upscaling has been proposed. This interpolation based scheme is useful for single image based Super Resolution methods. The presented method works on horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions of an image separately and it is adaptive to the local content of an image. This method relies only on a single image and uses the content of the original image only; therefore, the proposed method is more practical and realistic. The simulation results have been compared to other standard methods with the help of various performance matrices like PSNR, MSE, MSSIM etc. which indicates the preeminence of the proposed method.

COMPUTER VISION PERFORMANCE AND IMAGE QUALITY METRICS: A RECIPROCAL RELATION csandit
Computer vision algorithms are essential components of many systems in operation today. Predicting the robustness of such algorithms for different visual distortions is a task which can
be approached with known image quality measures. We evaluate the impact of several image distortions on object segmentation, tracking and detection, and analyze the predictability of this impact given by image statistics, error parameters and image quality metrics. We observe that

Learning Based Single Frame Image Super-resolution Using Fast Discrete Curvel...CSCJournals
High-resolution (HR) images play a vital role in all imaging applications as they offer more details. The images captured by the camera system are of degraded quality due to the imaging system and are low-resolution (LR) images. Image super-resolution (SR) is a process, where HR image is obtained from combining one or multiple LR images of same scene. In this paper, learning based single frame image super-resolution technique is proposed by using Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT) coefficients. FDCT is an extension to Cartesian wavelets having anisotropic scaling with many directions and positions, which forms tight wedges. Such wedges allow FDCT to capture the smooth curves and fine edges at multiresolution level. The finer scale curvelet coefficients of LR image are learnt locally from a set of high-resolution training images. The super-resolved image is reconstructed by inverse Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (IFDCT). This technique represents fine edges of reconstructed HR image by extrapolating the FDCT coefficients from the high-resolution training images. Experimentation based results show appropriate improvements in MSE and PSNR.

Compressed Medical Image Transfer in Frequency DomainCSCJournals
A common approach to the medical image compression algorithm begins by separating the region of interests from the background of the medical images and then lossless and lossy compression schemes are applied on the ROI part and background respectively. The compressed files (ROI and background) are now transmitted through different media of communications (local host, Intranet and Internet) between the server and clients. In this work, a medical image transfer coding scheme based on lossless Haar wavelet transforms method is proposed. At first, the proposed scheme is tested on Intranet (for both RoI and background) in order to compare its results with Internet tests. An adaptive quantization algorithm is used to apply on quasi lossless ROI wavelet coefficients while a uniform quantization is used to apply on lossy background wavelet coefficients. Finally, the retained quantization indices are entropy encoded with an optimal variable coding algorithm. The test results have indicated that the performance of the proposed MITC via Intranet is much better than via Internet in terms of transferring time, while the quality of the reconstructed medical image remains constant despite the medium of communication. For best adopted parameters, a compressed medical image file (760 KB „³ 19.38 KB) is transmitted through Internet (bandwidth= 1024 kbps) with transfer time = 0.156 s while the uncompressed file is sent with transfer time = 6.192 s.
Fast Motion Estimation for Quad-Tree Based Video Coder Using Normalized Cross...CSCJournals
Motion estimation is the most challenging and time consuming stage in block based video codec. To reduce the computation time, many fast motion estimation algorithms were proposed and implemented. This paper proposes a quad-tree based Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC) measure for obtaining estimates of inter-frame motion. The measure operates in frequency domain using FFT algorithm as the similarity measure with an exhaustive full search in region of interest. NCC is a more suitable similarity measure than Sum of Absolute Difference (SAD) for reducing the temporal redundancy in video compression since we can attain flatter residual after motion compensation. The degrees of homogeneous and stationery regions are determined by selecting suitable initial fixed threshold for block partitioning. An experimental result of the proposed method shows that actual numbers of motion vectors are significantly less compared to existing methods with marginal effect on the quality of reconstructed frame. It also gives higher speed up ratio for both fixed block and quad-tree based motion estimation methods.
This document discusses image compression using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and principal component analysis (PCA). It first reviews several related works that use transforms like curvelet, wavelet and discrete cosine transform for image compression. It then describes preprocessing the input image using DWT to decompose it into sub-bands, and applying PCA on the high-frequency sub-bands to reduce dimensions and compress the image while preserving important boundaries. The algorithm is implemented and evaluated based on metrics like peak signal-to-noise ratio, standard deviation and entropy. Results show 95% accuracy in image identification from a database, though processing time increases significantly with database size.
DEEP LEARNING BASED TARGET TRACKING AND CLASSIFICATION DIRECTLY IN COMPRESSIV...sipij
Past research has found that compressive measurements save data storage and bandwidth usage. However, it is also observed that compressive measurements are difficult to be used directly for target tracking and classification without pixel reconstruction. This is because the Gaussian random matrix destroys the target location information in the original video frames. This paper summarizes our research effort on target tracking and classification directly in the compressive measurement domain. We focus on one type of compressive measurement using pixel subsampling. That is, the compressive measurements are obtained by randomly subsample the original pixels in video frames. Even in such special setting, conventional trackers still do not work well. We propose a deep learning approach that integrates YOLO (You Only Look Once) and ResNet (residual network) for target tracking and classification in low quality videos. YOLO is for multiple target detection and ResNet is for target classification. Extensive experiments using optical and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) videos in the SENSIAC database demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed approach.

The conclusion is that delta E performs best for simple images with one object, while for complex images with multiple objects, performance degrades and further work is needed.
IMPROVED PARALLEL THINNING ALGORITHM TO OBTAIN UNIT-WIDTH SKELETONijma
To extract the creditable features in a fingerprint image, many people use a thinning algorithm that plays a
very important role in preprocessing. In this paper, we propose a robust parallel thinning algorithm that
can preserve the connectivity of the binarized fingerprint image, while making the thinnest skeleton of only
1-pixel wide, which gets extremely close to the medial axis. The proposed thinning method repeats three
sub-iterations. The first sub-iteration takes off only the outermost boundary pixel using the inner points. To
extract the one-sided skeletons, the second sub-iteration seeks the skeletons with a 2-pixel width. The third
sub-iteration prunes the needless pixels with a 2-pixel width existing in the obtained skeletons. The
proposed thinning algorithm shows robustness against rotation and noise and makes the balanced medial
axis. To evaluate the performance of the proposed thinning algorithm, we compare it with and analyze
previous algorithms.

This document presents a novel two-step approach for skull stripping of MRI brain images. The first step uses morphological reconstruction operations including erosion, opening by reconstruction, dilation, and opening-closing by reconstruction to generate a primary segmentation mask. The second step applies thresholding to the primary mask to extract the final skull-stripped brain image. The method is tested on axial PD and FLAIR MRI images and achieves high Jaccard and Dice similarity scores compared to manually stripped images, demonstrating its effectiveness at skull stripping.
An Analysis and Comparison of Quality Index Using Clustering Techniques for S...CSCJournals
This document presents a proposed methodology for microarray image segmentation using clustering techniques. The methodology involves three main steps: preprocessing, gridding, and segmentation. Segmentation is performed using an enhanced fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm (EFCMC) that uses neighborhood pixel information and gray levels. EFCMC can accurately detect absent spots and is tolerant to noise. The methodology is tested on real microarray images and its segmentation quality is assessed using a quality index. Results show EFCMC improves the quality index compared to k-means clustering and fuzzy c-means clustering.
An efficient image compression algorithm using dct biorthogonal wavelet trans...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Recently the digital imaging applications is increasing significantly and it leads the requirement of effective image compression techniques. Image compression removes the redundant information from an image. By using it we can able to store only the necessary information which helps to reduce the transmission bandwidth, transmission time and storage size of image. This paper proposed a new image compression technique using DCT-Biorthogonal Wavelet Transform with arithmetic coding for improvement the visual quality of an image. It is a simple technique for getting better compression results. In this new algorithm firstly Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied and then 2D DCT-Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied on each block of the low frequency sub band. Finally, split all values from each transformed block and arithmetic coding is applied for image compression.

This document presents a novel two-step approach for skull stripping MRI brain images. The first step uses morphological reconstruction operations to generate a mask of the brain. The second step applies thresholding to the mask to extract the brain. The method was tested on axial PD and FLAIR MRI images. Results found Jaccard and Dice similarity scores above 0.8 and 0.9 respectively, indicating the method efficiently extracts the brain from the skull.
This document summarizes an image compression algorithm called SAND. SAND compresses images without any loss of information by eliminating repeated pixels of the same color. It works in two steps: 1) Latitudinal compression, where rows are processed to absorb repeated pixels, and 2) Longitudinal compression, where the same is done for columns. The compressed image and data on the pixel absorptions are stored and transmitted. Decompression reconstructs the original image by interpreting the absorption data and referencing the compressed image as needed. SAND can achieve around 40% compression and is well-suited for applications where lossless compression is required, such as transmitting astronomical images.

MULTIPLE RECONSTRUCTION COMPRESSION FRAMEWORK BASED ON PNG IMAGEijcsity
It is shown that neural networks (NNs) achieve excellent performances in image compression and reconstruction. However, there are still many shortcomings in the practical application, which eventually lead to the loss of neural network image processing ability. Based on this, a joint framework based on neural network and scale compression is proposed in this paper. The framework first encodes the incoming PNG image information, and then the image is converted into binary input decoder to reconstruct the intermediate state image, next, we import the intermediate state image into the zooming compressor and repressurize it, and reconstruct the final image. From the experimental results, this method can better process the digital image and suppress the reverse expansion problem, and the compression effect can be improved by 4 to 10 times as much as that of using RNN alone, showing better ability in the application. In this paper, the method is transmitted over a digital image, the effect is far better than the existing compression method alone, the Human visual system cannot feel the change of the effect.

Survey paper on image compression techniquesIRJET Journal
This document summarizes and compares several popular image compression techniques: wavelet compression, JPEG/DCT compression, vector quantization (VQ), fractal compression, and genetic algorithm compression. It finds that all techniques perform satisfactorily at 0.5 bits per pixel, but for very low bit rates like 0.25 bpp, wavelet compression techniques like EZW perform best in terms of compression ratio and quality. Specifically, EZW and JPEG are more practical than others at low bit rates. The document also notes advantages and disadvantages of each technique and concludes hybrid approaches may achieve even higher compression ratios while maintaining image quality.

Combining 3D run-length encoding coding and searching techniques for medical...IJECEIAES
The field of image compression became a mandatory tool to face the increasing and advancing production of medical images, besides the inevitable need for smaller size of medical images in telemedicine systems. In spite of its simplicity, run-length encoding (RLE) technique is a considerably effective and practical tool in the field of lossless image compression. Such that, it is widely recommended for 2D space that utilizes common searching techniques like linear and zigzag. This paper adopts a new algorithm taking advantage of the potential simplicity of the run-length algorithm to contribute a volumetric RLE approach for binary medical data in the 3D form. The proposed volumetric-RLE (VRLE) algorithm differs from the 2D RLE approach utilizing correlations of intra-slice only, which is used for compressing binary medical data utilizing voxel-correlations of inter-slice. Furthermore, several forms of scanning are used to extending proposed technique like Hilbert and Perimeter, which determines the best possible procedure of scanning suitable for data morphology considering the segmented organ. This work employs proposed algorithm on four image datasets to get as sufficient as possible evaluation. Experimental results and benchmarking illustrate that the performance of the proposed technique surpasses other state-of-the-art techniques with 1:30 enhancement on average.
A spatial image compression algorithm based on run length encodingjournalBEEI
Image compression is vital for many areas such as communication and storage of data that is rapidly growing nowadays. In this paper, a spatial lossy compression algorithm for gray scale images is presented. It exploits the inter-pixel and the psycho-visual data redundancies in images. The proposed technique finds paths of connected pixels that fluctuate in value within some small threshold. The path is calculated by looking at the 4-neighbors of a pixel then choosing the best one based on two conditions; the first is that the selected pixel must not be included in another path and the second is that the difference between the first pixel in the path and the selected pixel is within the specified threshold value. A path starts with a given pixel and consists of the locations of the subsequently selected pixels. Run-length encoding scheme is applied on paths to harvest the inter-pixel redundancy. After applying the proposed algorithm on several test images, a promising quality vs. compression ratio results have been achieved.
Thesis on Image compression by Manish MystManish Myst
The document discusses using neural networks for image compression. It describes how previous neural network methods divided images into blocks and achieved limited compression. The proposed method applies edge detection, thresholding, and thinning to images first to reduce their size. It then uses a single-hidden layer feedforward neural network with an adaptive number of hidden neurons based on the image's distinct gray levels. The network is trained to compress the preprocessed image block and reconstruct the original image at the receiving end. This adaptive approach aims to achieve higher compression ratios than previous neural network methods.

Image Processing Compression and Reconstruction by Using New Approach Artific...CSCJournals
In this paper a neural network based image compression method is presented. Neural networks offer the potential for providing a novel solution to the problem of data compression by its ability to generate an internal data representation. This network, which is an application of back propagation network, accepts a large amount of image data, compresses it for storage or transmission, and subsequently restores it when desired. A new approach for reducing training time by reconstructing representative vectors has also been proposed. Performance of the network has been evaluated using some standard real world images. It is shown that the development architecture and training algorithm provide high compression ratio and low distortion while maintaining the ability to generalize and is very robust as well.
HUMAN VISION THRESHOLDING WITH ENHANCEMENT FOR DARK BLURRED IMAGES FOR LOCAL ...cscpconf
There are several images that do not have uniform brightness which pose a challenging problem
for image enhancement systems. As histogram equalization has been successfully used to correct
for uniform brightness problems, a histogram equalization method that utilizes human visual
system based thresholding(human vision thresholding) as well as logarithmic processing
techniques were introduced later . But these methods are not good for preserving the local
content of the image which is a major factor for various images like medical images. Therefore
new method is proposed here. This method is referred as “Human vision thresholding with
enhancement technique for dark blurred images for local content preservation”. It uses human
vision thresholding together with an existing enhancement method for dark blurred images.
Experimental results shows that the proposed method outperforms the former existing methods in
preserving the local content for standard images and medical images
A common goal of the engineering field of signal processing is to reconstruct a signal from a series of sampling measurements. In general, this task is impossible because there is no way to reconstruct a signal during the times
that the signal is not measured. Nevertheless, with prior knowledge or assumptions about the signal, it turns out to
be possible to perfectly reconstruct a signal from a series of measurements. Over time, engineers have improved their understanding of which assumptions are practical and how they can be generalized. An early breakthrough in signal processing was the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. It states that if the signal's highest frequency is less than half of the sampling rate, then the signal can be reconstructed perfectly. The main idea is that with prior knowledge about constraints on the signal’s frequencies, fewer samples are needed to reconstruct the signal. Sparse sampling (also known as, compressive sampling, or compressed sampling) is a signal processing technique for efficiently acquiring and reconstructing a signal, by finding solutions tounder determined linear systems. This is based on the principle that, through optimization, the sparsity of a signal can be exploited to recover it from far fewer samples than required by the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem. There are two conditions under which recovery is possible.[1] The first one is sparsity which requires the signal to be sparse in some domain. The second one is incoherence which is applied through the isometric property which is sufficient for sparse signals Possibility
of compressed data acquisition protocols which directly acquire just the important information Sparse sampling (CS) is a fast growing area of research. It neglects the extravagant acquisition process by measuring lesser values to reconstruct the image or signal. Sparse sampling is adopted successfully in various fields of image processing and proved its efficiency. Some of the image processing applications like face recognition, video encoding, Image encryption and reconstruction are presented here.

Image Compression based on DCT and BPSO for MRI and Standard ImagesIJERA Editor
Nowadays, digital image compression has become a crucial factor of modern telecommunication systems. Image compression is the process of reducing total bits required to represent an image by reducing redundancies while preserving the image quality as much as possible. Various applications including internet, multimedia, satellite imaging, medical imaging uses image compression in order to store and transmit images in an efficient manner. Selection of compression technique is an application-specific process. In this paper, an improved compression technique based on Butterfly-Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) is proposed. BPSO is an intelligence-based iterative algorithm utilized for finding optimal solution from a set of possible values. The dominant factors of BPSO over other optimization techniques are higher convergence rate, searching ability and overall performance. The proposed technique divides the input image into 88 blocks. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is applied to each block to obtain the coefficients. Then, the threshold values are obtained from BPSO. Based on this threshold, values of the coefficients are modified. Finally, quantization followed by the Huffman encoding is used to encode the image. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method over the existing method.

An Heterogeneous Population-Based Genetic Algorithm for Data Clusteringijeei-iaes
As a primary data mining method for knowledge discovery, clustering is a technique of classifying a dataset into groups of similar objects. The most popular method for data clustering K-means suffers from the drawbacks of requiring the number of clusters and their initial centers, which should be provided by the user. In the literature, several methods have proposed in a form of k-means variants, genetic algorithms, or combinations between them for calculating the number of clusters and finding proper clusters centers. However, none of these solutions has provided satisfactory results and determining the number of clusters and the initial centers are still the main challenge in clustering processes. In this paper we present an approach to automatically generate such parameters to achieve optimal clusters using a modified genetic algorithm operating on varied individual structures and using a new crossover operator. Experimental results show that our modified genetic algorithm is a better efficient alternative to the existing approaches.

One of the concerns of power system planners is the problem of optimum cost of generation as well as loss minimization on the grid system. This issue can be addressed in a number of ways; one of such ways is the use of reactive power support (shunt capacitor compensation). This paper used the method of shunt capacitor placement for cost and transmission loss minimization on Nigerian power grid system which is a 24-bus, 330kV network interconnecting four thermal generating stations (Sapele, Delta, Afam and Egbin) and three hydro stations to various load points. Simulation in MATLAB was performed on the Nigerian 330kV transmission grid system. The technique employed was based on the optimal power flow formulations using Newton-Raphson iterative method for the load flow analysis of the grid system. The results show that when shunt capacitor was employed as the inequality constraints on the power system, there is a reduction in the total cost of generation accompanied with reduction in the total system losses with a significant improvement in the system voltage profile

Comparison of Dynamic Stability Response of A SMIB with PI and Fuzzy Controll...ijeei-iaes
Consumer utilities are non –linear in nature. This injects increased flow of current and reduced voltage with distortions which cause adverse effect on the stability of consumer utilities. To overcome this problem we are using a modern Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System controller i.e. distributed power flow controller (DPFC). This controller is similar to UPFC, which can be installed in a transmission line between the two electrical areas. In DPFC, instead of the common Dc link capacitor three single phase converters are used. In this paper we are concentrating on system stability (oscillation damping). For analyzing the stability of a single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) we have used PI controlled Distributed Power Flow Controller (DPFC) and Fuzzy controlled DPFC. All these models are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results shows Fuzzy controlled DPFC are better than PI controlled DPFC. The significance of the results are better stability and constant power supply.

A Pattern Classification Based approach for Blur Classificationijeei-iaes
Blur type identification is one of the most crucial step of image restoration. In case of blind restoration of such images, it is generally assumed that the blur type is known prior to restoration of such images. However, it is not practical in real applications. So, blur type identification is extremely desirable before application of blind restoration technique to restore a blurred image. An approach to categorize blur in three classes namely motion, defocus, and combined blur is presented in this paper. This document computes three topological indices - the Arithmetic-Geometric (AG2) index, SK3 index, and Sanskruti index - for the molecular graph of graphene. It begins by introducing topological indices and defining the three indices. It then presents the main results, explicitly calculating the formula for each index in graphene. For the AG2 index, it considers three cases based on the number of benzene rings in the graphene structure. The key findings are concise formulae for each of the three topological indices of graphene.
A Lyapunov Based Approach to Enchance Wind Turbine Stabilityijeei-iaes
This paper introduces a nonlinear control of a wind turbine based on a Double Feed Induction Generator. The Rotor Side converter is controlled by using field oriented control and Backstepping strategy to enhance the dynamic stability response. The Grid Side converter is controlled by a sliding mode. These methods aim to increase dynamic system stability for variable wind speed. Hence, The Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is studied in order to illustrate its behavior in case of severe disturbance, and its dynamic response in grid connected mode for variable speed wind operation. The model is presented and simulated under Matlab/ Simulink.
Fuzzy Control of a Large Crane Structureijeei-iaes
The usage of tower cranes, one type of rotary cranes, is common in many industrial structures, e.g., shipyards, factories, etc. With the size of these cranes becoming larger and the motion expected to be faster and has no prescribed path, their manual operation becomes difficult and hence, automatic closed-loop control schemes are very important in the operation of rotary crane. In this paper, the plant of concern is a tower crane consists of a rotatable jib that carries a trolley which is capable of traveling over the length of the jib. There is a pendulum-like end line attached to the trolley through a cable of variable length. A fuzzy logic controller with various types of membership functions is implemented for controlling the position of the trolley and damping the load oscillations. It consists of two main types of controllers radial and rotational each of two fuzzy inference engines (FIEs). The radial controller is used to control the trolley position and the rotational is used for damping the load oscillations. Computer simulations are used to verify the performance of the controller. The results from the simulations show the effectiveness of the method in the control of tower crane keeping load swings small at the end of motion.
Site Diversity Technique Application on Rain Attenuation for Lagosijeei-iaes
This paper studied the impact of site diversity (SD) as a fade mitigation technique on rain attenuation at 12 GHz for Lagos. SD is one of the most effective methods to overcome such large fades due to rain attenuation that takes advantage of the usually localized nature of intense rainfall by receiving the satellite downlink signal at two or more earth stations to minimize the prospect of potential diversity stations being simultaneously subjected to significant rain attenuation. One year (January to December 2011) hourly rain gauge data was sourced from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) for three sites (Ikeja, Ikorodu and Marina) in Lagos, Nigeria. Significant improvement in both performance and availability was observed with the application of SD technique; again, separation distance was seen to be responsible for this observed performance improvements.
Impact of Next Generation Cognitive Radio Network on the Wireless Green Eco s...ijeei-iaes
Land mobile communication is burdened with typical propagation constraints due to the channel characteristics in radio systems. Also, the propagation characteristics vary form place to place and also as the mobile unit moves, from time to time.Hence, the tramsmission path between transmitter and receiver varies from simple direct LOS to the one which is severely obstructed by buildings, foliage and terrain. Multipath propagation and shadow fading effects affect the signal strength of an arbitrary Transmitter-Receiver due to the rapid fluctuations in the phase and amplitude of signal which also determines the average power over an area of tens or hundreds of meters. Shadowing introduces additional fluctuations, so the received local mean power varies around the area –mean. The present paper deals with the performance analysis of impact of next generation wireless cognitive radio network on wireless green eco system through signal and interference level based k coverage probability under the shadow fading effects.

Comparative analysis between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquapon...bijceesjournal
The aquaponic system of planting is a method that does not require soil usage. It is a method that only needs water, fish, lava rocks (a substitute for soil), and plants. Aquaponic systems are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Its use not only helps to plant in small spaces but also helps reduce artificial chemical use and minimizes excess water use, as aquaponics consumes 90% less water than soil-based gardening. The study applied a descriptive and experimental design to assess and compare conventional and reconstructed aquaponic methods for reproducing tomatoes. The researchers created an observation checklist to determine the significant factors of the study. The study aims to determine the significant difference between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquaponics systems propagating tomatoes in terms of height, weight, girth, and number of fruits. The reconstructed aquaponics system’s higher growth yield results in a much more nourished crop than the traditional aquaponics system. It is superior in its number of fruits, height, weight, and girth measurement. Moreover, the reconstructed aquaponics system is proven to eliminate all the hindrances present in the traditional aquaponics system, which are overcrowding of fish, algae growth, pest problems, contaminated water, and dead fish.

Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...IJECEIAES
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.

Abstract
The demand to preserve raw image data for further processing has been increased with the hasty
growth of digital technology. In medical industry the images are generally in the form of sequences which
are much correlated. These images are very important and hence lossless compression Technique is
required to reduce the number of bits to store these image sequences and take less time to transmit over
the network The proposed compression method combines Super-Spatial Structure Prediction with inter-
frame coding that includes Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation to achieve higher compression
ratio. Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation is made with the fast block-matching process Inverse
Diamond Search method. To enhance the compression ratio we propose a new scheme Bose, Chaudhuri
and Hocquenghem (BCH). Results are compared in terms of compression ratio and Bits per pixel to the
prior arts. Experimental results of our proposed algorithm for medical image sequences achieve 30% more
reduction than the other state-of-the-art lossless image compression methods.

1. Introduction
Medical Science grows very fast and hence each hospital, various medical
organizations needs to store high volume of digital me dical image sequences that includes
Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI), Ultrasound and Capsule
Endoscope (CE) images. As a result hospitals and medical organizations have high volume of
images with them and require huge disk space and transmission bandwidth to store this image
sequences [1].The solution to this problem could be the application of compression. Image
compression techniques reduce the number of bits required to represent an image by taking
advantage of coding, inter-pixel and psycho visual redundancies. Medical image compression is
very important in the present world for efficient archiving and transmission of images [2]. Image
compression can be classified as lossy and lossless. Medical imaging does not require lossy
compression due to the following reason. The first reason is the incorrect diagnosis due to the
loss of useful information. The second reason is the operations like image enhancement may
emphasize the degradations caused by lossy compression. Lossy scheme seems to be
irreversible. But lossless scheme is reversible and this represents an image signed with the
smallest possible number of bits without loss of any information thereby speeding up
transmission and minimizing storage requirement. Lossless compression reproduces the exact
replica of the original image without any quality loss [3]. Hence efficient lossless compression
methods are required for medical images [4]. Lossless compression includes Discrete Cosine
Transform, Wavelet Compression [5], Fractal Compression, Vector Quantization and Linear
Predictive Coding. Lossless consist of two distinct and independent components called
modeling and coding. The modeling generates a statistical model for the input data. The coding
maps the input data to bit strings [6].
Several Lossless image compression algorithms were evaluated for compressing
medical images. There are several lossless image compression algorithms like Lossless
JPEG,JPEG 2000,PNG,CALIC and JPEG-LS.JPEG-LS has excellent coding and best possible
compression efficiency [1]. But the Super-Spatial Structure Prediction algorithm proposed in [7]
has outperformed the JPEG-LS algorithm. This algorithm divides the image into two regions,
structure regions (SRs) and non-structure regions (NSRs).The structure regions are encoded
with Super-Spatial Structure Prediction technique and non-structure regions are encoded using

CALIC. The idea of Super-Spatial Structure Prediction is taken from video coding. There are
many structures in a single image. These include edges, pattern and textures. This has
relatively high computational efficiency. No codebook is required in this compression scheme
because the structure components are searched within the encoded image regions [8]. CALIC is
a spatial prediction based scheme which uses both context and prediction of the pixel values [9]
which accomplishes relatively low time and space complexities. A continuous tone mode of
CALIC includes the four components, prediction, context selection and quantization, context
modeling of prediction errors and entropy coding of prediction error [10].
Most of the lossless image compression algorithms take only a single image
independently without utilizing the correlation among the sequence of frames of MRI or CE
images. Since there is too much correlation among the medical image sequences, we can
achieve a higher compression ratio using inter-frame coding. The idea of compressing
sequence of images was first adopted in [11] for lossless image compression and was used in
[12], [13], [14] for lossless video compression. The Compression Ratio (CR) was significantly
low (i.e.) 2.5 which was not satisfactory. Hence in [1] they have combined JPEG-LS with inter-
frame coding to find the correlation among image sequences and the obtained ratio was
4.8.Super-Spatial Structure Prediction algorithm proposed in [15] has outperformed JPEG-LS.
However this ratio can be enhanced using Super-Spatial Structure Prediction technique and
Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem (BCH).Super-Spatial Structure Prediction is applied with a
fast block matching algorithm Inverse Diamond Search (IDS) algorithm which include lower
number of searches and search points [16]. BCH scheme is used repeatedly to increase the
compression ratio [17].
In this paper, we propose a hybrid algorithm for medical image sequences. The
proposed algorithm combines Super-Spatial Structure Prediction technique with inter-frame
coding and a new innovative scheme BCH to achieve a high mpression ratio. The Compression
Ratio (CR) can be calculated by the equation (1) and PSNR by equation (2)
CR = Original Image Size Compressed Image Size⁄ (1)
PSNR = 20 ∗ log 10 255 sqrt(MSE) (2)
This paper is organized as follows:
Section II explains the methodology used which includes Overview, Super-Spatial Structure
Prediction, Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation, Motion Vector, Block Matching
Algorithm and BCH. Section III discusses the results obtained for the proposed methodology.
2. Research Method
2.1. Overview
The objective of the proposed method is to enhance the compression efficiency using
Super-Spatial Structure Prediction (SSP) technique combined with Motion Estimation and
Motion Compensation (MEMC). The compression ratio is further enhanced by BCH algorithm an
error correcting technique. Figure1 illustrates the complete encoding technique of the proposed
method. The steps in the proposed method are discussed.
Step 1: Given an image sequence, input the first image to be compressed
Step 2: The image is classified as Structure Regions (SRs) and Non-Structure Regions (NSRs).
SRs are encoded using SSP and NSRs are encoded using CALIC
Step 3: The first image will be compressed by Super-spatial Structure Prediction since there is
no reference frame.
Step 4: Now the second frame becomes the current frame and the first frame becomes the
reference frame for the second frame.
Step 5: Inter-frame coding includes MEMC process to remove temporal redundancy. Inter-
coded frame will be divided to blocks known as macro blocks.
Step 6: The encoder will try to find a similar block as the previously encoded frame. This
process is done by a block matching algorithm called Inverse Diamond Search.
Step 7: If the encoder succeeds on its search the block is directly encoded by a vector known as
Motion Vector.

128
Step 8: After MEMC is done the difference of images is processed for compression. The
difference is also compressed using SSP compression. MV derived from MEMC is also
compressed.
Step 9: BCH converts SSP output code to binary and divide it to 7 bits each
Step 10: Each block is checked if it is valid codeword or not.BCH converts the valid block to 4
bits.
Step 11: This method adds 1 as an indicator for the valid codeword to an extra file called map
otherwise if it is not a codeword it remains 7 and adds 0 to the same file.
Step 12: This step is iterated three times to improve CR.
Step 13: Flag bits and the encoded bits are concatenated.
Step 14: Once the compression of the second frame is done it becomes the reference frame for
the third frame and this processing will be repeated for the next image until the end of image
sequence

2.2. Super-Spatial Structure Prediction
Super-Spatial Structure Prediction borrows its idea from motion prediction [18].In SSP
an area is searched within the previously encoded image region to find the prediction of an
image block. The reference block that results in the minimum block difference is selected as the
optimal prediction. Sum of Absolute Difference (SAD) is used to measure the block difference.
The size of the prediction unit is an important parameter. When the size is small the amount of
prediction and coding overhead will become large. If larger prediction unit is used the overall
prediction efficiency will decrease. In this paper, a good substitution between this two is
proposed. The image is partitioned into blocks of 4x4 and classifies these blocks to structure
and non-structure blocks. Structure blocks are encoded using SSP and non-structure blocks
using CALIC.
CALIC is a spatial prediction based scheme in which GAP (Gradient Adjusted Predictor)
is used for adaptive image prediction. The image is classified to SRs and NSRs and then SSP is
applied to SRs since its prediction gain in the non structure smooth regions will be very limited.
This will reduce the overall computational complexity [7].
2.3. Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation
Motion estimation is the estimation of the displacement of image structures from one
frame to another in a time sequence of 2D images
The steps in MEMC is stated as
Find displacement vector of a pixel or a set of pixels between frame
Via displacement vector, predict counterpart in present frame
Prediction error, positions, motion vectors are coded & transmitted

Motion estimation can be very computationally intensive and so this compression
performance may be at the expense of high computational complexity. The motion estimation
creates a model by modifying one or more reference frames to match the current frame as
closely as possible. The current frame is motion compensated by subtracting the model from the
frame to produce a motion-compensated residual frame. This is coded and transmitted, along
with the information required for the decoder to recreate the model (typically a set of motion
vectors). At the same time, the encoded residual is decoded and added to the model to
reconstruct a decoded copy of the current frame (which may not be identical to the original
frame because of coding losses). This reconstructed frame is stored to be used as reference
frame for further predictions. The inter-frame coding should include MEMC process to remove
temporal redundancy. Difference coding or conditional replenishment is a very simple inter-
frame compression process during which each frame of a sequence is compared with its
predecessor and only pixels that have changes are updated. Only a fraction of pixel values are
transmitted. An inter-coded frame will finitely be divided into blocks known as macro blocks.
After that, instead of directly encoding the raw pixel values for each block, as it would be done
for an intra-frame, the encoder will try to find a similar block to the one it is encoding on a
previously encoded frame, referred to as reference frame. This process is done by a block
matching algorithm. [16]. If the encoder succeeds on its search, the block could be directly
encoded by a vector known as motion vector, which points to the position of the matching block
at the reference frame.
2.4. Motion Vector
Motion estimation is using a reference frame in a video, dividing it in blocks and figuring
out where the blocks have moved in the next frame using motion vectors pointing from the initial
block location in the reference frame to the final block location in the next frame. For MV
calculation we use Block matching algorithm as it is simple and effective. It uses Mean Square
Error (MSE) for finding the best possible match for the reference frame block in the target frame.
Motion vector is the key element in motion estimation process. It is used to represent a macro
block in a picture based on the position of this macro block in another picture called the
reference picture. In video editing, motion vectors are used to compress video by storing the
changes to an image from one frame to next. When motion vector is applied to an image, we
can synthesize the next image called motion compensation [11], [16]. This is used to compress
video by storing the changes to an image from one frame to next frame. To improve the quality
of the compressed medical image sequence, motion vector sharing is used [14].
2.5. Block Matching
In the block-matching technique, each current frame is divided into equal-size blocks,
called source blocks. Each source block is associated with a search region in the reference
frame. The objective of block-matching is to find a candidate block in the search region best
matched to the source block. The relative distances between a source block and its candidate
blocks are called motion vectors. Figure 3 illustrates the Block-Matching technique.
The block-matching process during the function MEMC taken from [1] takes much time
hence we need a fast searching method and we have taken Inverse Diamond Search (IDS)
method [16] which is the best among methods both in accuracy and speed. In the matching
process, it is assumed that pixels belonging to the block are displaced with the same amount.
Matching is performed by either maximizing the cross correlation function or minimizing an error
criterion.
In the matching process, it is assumed that pixels belonging to the block are displaced
with the same amount. Matching is performed by either maximizing the cross correlation
function or minimizing an error criterion. The most commonly used error criteria are the Mean
Square Error (MSE) as stated in equation (3) and the Minimum Absolute Difference (MAD) as
stated in equation (4)

The IDS algorithm is based on MV distribution of real world video sequences. It employs two
search patterns, Small Diamond Shape Pattern (SDSP) and Large Diamond Shape Pattern
(LDSP) In order to reduce the number of search points, use Small Diamond Search Pattern
(SDSP) as the primary shape. The entire process is discussed here.
Step 1: It first uses small diamond search pattern (SDSP) and checks five checking points to
form a diamond shape.
Step 2: The second pattern consists of nine checking points and forms a large diamond shape
pattern (LDSP).
Step 3: The search starts with the SDSP and is used repeatedly until the Minimum Block
Distortion Measure (MBD) point lies on the search centre.
Step 4: The search pattern is then switched to LDSP.
Step 5: The position yielding minimum error point is taken as the final MV.
IDS are an outstanding algorithm adopted by MPEG-4 verification model (VM) due to its
superiority to other methods in the class of fixed search pattern algorithms.
2.6. Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem
The binary input image is firstly divided into blocks of size 7 bits each, 7 bits are used to
represent each byte and the eighth bits represent sign of the number(most significant bit).BCH
checks each block if it is a valid codeword and converts the valid code word to 4 bits. It adds 1
as an indicator for the valid code word to an extra file called map. If it is not a valid code word it
remains 7 and adds 0 to the same file. The map is a key for decompression to distinguish
between the compressed blocks and non compressed blocks. BCH is repeated for three times
to improve the compression ratio. If repeated for more than three times then there will be
increase in time and it may affect other performance factor. Hence it is essential for this
algorithm not to be repeated for more than three times.
The first frame is decompressed using BCH followed by Super-Spatial Structure
Prediction decoder. After the reproduction of the first frame the difference of the rest of the
frames are decompressed. The first frame becomes the reference frame for the next frame.
After the reproduction of the second frame it becomes the reference frame for the next frame
and the process continues until all the frames are decompressed.
3. Results and Discussion
The proposed methodology has been simulated in Microsoft Visual Studio .Net 2005.
To evaluate the performance of the proposed methodology we have tested it on a sequence of
MRI and CE images. Medical video is taken from Sundaram Medical Foundation (SMF) and
MR-TIP database. Input image sequences are taken from these videos. More than 100 image
sequences of MRI and CE are taken and tested for compression. The results are evaluated
based on Compression Ratio and Bits per pixel. Figure 2 shows five CE Image sequences and
Figure 3 shows five MRI Image Sequences. The images in these CE sequences are of
dimension 1024×768 and the images in these MRI sequences are of dimension 514x514.
Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation is applied to these image sequences using
Inverse Diamond Search algorithm and Super-Spatial Structure Compression is applied. The
output code of SSP is then taken and BCH is applied to enhance the efficiency of compression
ratio. Super-Spatial Structure Prediction significantly reduces the prediction error. SSP
outperforms CALIC and saves the bit rate for high frequency image components. With Inverse
Diamond Search algorithm the accuracy is 92% and the time saved is 95% on the average.
Bose,Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem gives a good compression ratio and keeps the time and
complexity minimum.

4. Conclusion
The algorithm given in this paper makes use of the lossless image compression
technique and video compression to achieve higher CR. To achieve high CR the proposed
method combines Super-Spatial Structure Prediction (SSP) with inter-frame coding along with
Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem (BCH). The technique used in proposed algorithm gives
better result than JPEG-LS and SSP. Fast block-matching algorithm is used here. Since the full
search block matching was time consuming as proposed in [1] we have taken Inverse Diamond
Search (IDS) algorithm for block-matching process. Inverse Diamond Search (IDS) is faster
than Diamond Search (DS) as the number of searches and search points are low. Since this
paper exploits inter-frame correlation in the form of MEMC the proposed is compared with [1]
[15]. To enhance the compression ratio, SSP is combined with BCH. From Table 1, 2 and 3 it is
analyzed that proposed is much better than other state-of-the art lossless compression
methods.
