3. What is Supercharger?
A supercharger is an air
compressor used for forced
induction of air in I.C
engine. It provides more
oxygen to support he
combustion than available
in naturally aspirated
engine.
A supercharger can be
powered mechanically by a
belt, gear, shaft, or chain
connected to the engine's
crankshaft.

Pulley, the first part of
supercharger which gives
motion to compressor is
connected to crankshaft
with belt or gear mechanism
->Through drive gear the
motion has been
transmitted to driven
impeller gear, which inturn
rotates impeller
->Hence it sucks the
ambient air and force it into
intake of an I.C.engine.

The turbocharger also helps at high altitudes, where the air is less
dense.
The typical boost provided by a turbocharger is 6 to 8 pounds per
square inch (psi). Since normal atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi at sea
level, you can see that you are getting about 50 percent more air into
the engine

10. One cause of the inefficiency comes from the
fact that the power to spin the turbine is not
free.
Having a turbine in the exhaust flow increases
the restriction in the exhaust. This means that on
the exhaust stroke, the engine has to push against a
higher back-pressure. This subtracts a little bit
of power from the cylinders that are firing at the
same time.

11. History:
The first exhaust-driven supercharger was
developed by Dr. Alfred J. Büchi of
Switzerland between 1909 and 1912.

12.  In Formula 1, in the so called "Turbo Era", engines
with a capacity of 1500 cc could achieve 1500 to 1800
hp (1100 to 1350 kW)(Renault, Honda, BMW).
 Can increase the bhp of an engine, suppose 220 to
370 but utilizes 50bhp itself hence we get 320 bhp
only
