During the Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties, China experienced political stability, economic growth, and intellectual/artistic achievements following years of division and regional rule. The foundations of centralized government and a bureaucracy of civil servants were established, improving agriculture, industry, trade, and advancing technology. However, the social class structure and gender roles changed little from earlier dynasties.
