Similar to Synergis University 2014-Top Reasons to Step Up from Basic Vault (20)
Over the years that I’ve taught the various infrastructure products from Autodesk, most are not familiar with the different tools to generate plans quickly. AutoCAD includes the Sheet Set Manager at the core level to address basic sheet creation and title block data administration. Map 3D includes the MapBook tool to generate plans that require a grid arrangement. Lastly, Civil 3D has Plan tools that create Plan sheets, Profile sheets, Section sheets and any combination.
If you are a Civil 3D user being asked to provide data to your GIS department, if you are being asked to use GIS data as background data for your designs, or if you think GIS is a four letter word; this class will answer this all too common question, “Why should I care about GIS?” You will learn to import GIS data not only as AutoCAD objects, but also directly as Civil 3D objects like Surfaces and Pipe Networks that leverage the existing database information. Once that data is in Civil 3D we will explore ways to leverage it with labeling tools and other display techniques. This popular class has won awards at Autodesk University, don’t miss your chance to learn how the GIS tools in Civil 3D can make you more productive by automating common everyday tasks.

Have you ever said to yourself, “We pay for modern software tools, hardware, implementation, and training, but I can’t help feeling we aren’t getting all the productivity we should have?” In this session we’ll ponder why some companies succeed with new software while others flounder and explore the key role the CAD/BIM manager can play in achieving the success that leads to high productivity. We’ll cover defining your CAD tools, finding technology accelerators, test piloting, training ladder methodologies, project management based tool analysis, and the profound impact of mission management when implementing software. If you are responsible for CAD/BIM management, training or project execution using CAD tools you won’t want to miss this session.
Is your engineering team doing whatever they want when creating 3D Models and Drawings? How do you get control and manage the chaos?
The goal of this session is to provide an overview of how standards can be imposed and managed by Autodesk Vault. Standards provide structure and guidance on how Engineers/Designers are to prepare and manage their engineering design data resulting in less mistakes, efficient workflows, accountability, and consistency within the team.
Are you looking to implement a new design software solution? Are you in the middle of an implementation? We will look specifically at implementations of Autodesk’s Factory Design Suite, though these techniques can be adapted to other software. We will discuss the impact of decisions on the ease of transitioning to a new system.
A key part of managing CAD/BIM technology is keeping everybody working at consistently high levels of quality while preventing errors, right? But to maintain quality a broad mix of standards, training, auditing and project management must be brought to bear – no easy set of tasks. In this session we’ll explore some proven manufacturing quality management concepts like deviation reporting, rework cost analysis, Deming theory, Kaizen event management, and And on notification that can be used by CAD managers. You may be surprised to learn that achieving high quality is about getting users to “buy in” to the concept using consistent processes that empower users rather than punishing them. If you have to deal with CAD/BIM standards and project quality you’ll receive some compelling new concepts to think about in this session.
Have you ever struggled with keeping multiple offices in sync with each other? Have you had to deal with users bringing their own devices/software and wreaking havoc on your projects? If you answered yes to either of these you know the mayhem that can ensue. In this session we’ll talk about a variety of technologies that can keep multiple offices better in tune and standardized device platforms that can reduce the mayhem and increase your productivity like WAN optimization, remote graphics, licensing topologies/subscriptions, collaborative file management and more. Along the way speed and ease of use for the CAD user will always be considered as paramount and communication with your company’s senior leadership will be encouraged. If you have to manage the mayhem at your company you’ll get some good ideas on where to start in this session.
Does your firm deal with an explosion of project files? Are your projects behind schedule? Do you share workload across many offices or with outside consultants? Do you share data between projects? These data management challenges are easily handled using Autodesk Vault Professional. The 2016 edition improvements include:
Enabling data referencing of objects across projects. This is not possible with Data Shortcuts.
Improved project organization – Vault allows creation of subfolders within the object levels for better organization.
Project Sync – 2016 introduces an option for selective sync of data within a folder instead of synchronizing the entire folder contents.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

When it is all about ERP solutions, companies typically meet their needs with common ERP solutions like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics. These big players have demonstrated that ERP systems can be either simple or highly comprehensive. This remains true today, but there are new factors to consider, including a promising new contender in the market that’s Odoo. This blog compares Odoo ERP with traditional ERP systems and explains why many companies now see Odoo ERP as the best choice.
What are ERP Systems?
An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system provides your company with valuable information to help you make better decisions and boost your ROI. You should choose an ERP system based on your company’s specific needs. For instance, if you run a manufacturing or retail business, you will need an ERP system that efficiently manages inventory. A consulting firm, on the other hand, would benefit from an ERP system that enhances daily operations. Similarly, eCommerce stores would select an ERP system tailored to their needs.
Because different businesses have different requirements, ERP system functionalities can vary. Among the various ERP systems available, Odoo ERP is considered one of the best in the ERp market with more than 12 million global users today.
Odoo is an open-source ERP system initially designed for small to medium-sized businesses but now suitable for a wide range of companies. Odoo offers a scalable and configurable point-of-sale management solution and allows you to create customised modules for specific industries. Odoo is gaining more popularity because it is built in a way that allows easy customisation, has a user-friendly interface, and is affordable. Here, you will cover the main differences and get to know why Odoo is gaining attention despite the many other ERP systems available in the market.

How Do We Get There?
Editor's Notes
Hello everyone, and welcome to “Top Reasons to Step Up from Vault Basic”!
My name is Chris Fabri and with me today is Jim Kahle, and together we’ll be your hosts and presenters for today’s session.
Our goal today is to share with you some of the top reasons clients make the transition from using Vault Basic, the solution included with many of your Autodesk CAD products, to one of the more robust or advanced solutions offered by Synergis.
Before we begin, I want to provide you with a brief overview of Synergis capabilities, expertise and experience in data management solutions.
Synergis Software has been developing, implementing and supporting enterprise document management and workflow solutions for more than two decades, with particular emphasis on addressing the array of challenges facing engineering organizations of all sizes, in many industries, across the globe.
Today, more than 40,000 users benefit from our flagship product, Adept.
Our software is made in America, in our Pennsylvania facilities, and our clients are located all over the world.
Many of the world’s best companies use Adept, and here are just a few examples.
Autodesk Vault of course is developed by Autodesk, the worldwide leaders in CAD. Vault comes in 3 flavors, so depending on what your goals and requirements are, there is likely a solution for you. And like Adept, Vault is an excellent fit for a variety of industries.
Here are just a few of the clients Synergis has implemented Autodesk Vault for here in our local region.
Most important, we want you to be aware of why Synergis is the right partner for engineering data management
We’ve been doing this a very long time. We have a team of experts with highly relevant experience that extends far beyond any other organization in the region – a software development team of 35 people, 25 solution engineers and project managers with experience in a wide range of CAD products, and 10 of which are experts in the field of enterprise engineering data management.
We take a consultative approach with our clients – understanding your goals, requirements, legacy data, processes and systems before recommending a solution or beginning your implementation.
We offer a complete range of services to help you move from where your are today to a solution that helps you become vastly more organized, efficient, collaborative, and profitable.
With that brief background, let’s begin.
Our format will be to discuss a top reason clients make the move to either Vault Workgroup, Vault Professional or Adept. Then we’ll do our best to demonstrate that to you in one of the solutions offered by Synergis. Then we’ll go on to another top reason.
Jim and I will go back and forth. He’ll be showing you some of the solutions in Vault, and I’ll be showing others from within Adept. Our focus is not on one product or the other – but on showing you powerful capabilities available in these other solutions. In order to determine which solution is best for you, we would need to spend some time with you understanding your goals, requirements, systems and the processes you wish to automate.
All of you should have a score card that lists each of the top reasons to step up that we’ll be talking about today. At the end of each topic covered, we’ll ask you to rate the importance of that reason to your organization, on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being not at all important, and 5 being extremely important. At the end of the session, we’ll ask you to fold your card, place it into a fish bowl, and we’ll have a drawing where we’ll give away a $100 Amazon.com gift card (?)
Jim – Data Management serves as your central point for document access and automatically ensures all users always find the latest version of a document. Previous revisions can be automatically saved. When files are “checked out”, a copy of the file is placed in the user’s work area, and the master file is locked safely on the server. Other users may view the original document, or copy it for re-use on another project, but only one user can edit a document at a time. This ensures users are not overwriting each other’s work. When a file is checked in after editing, it becomes the latest version others will see, and the original is saved as a revision.
Data Management can track both major and minor revisions, and can also automatically increment your own custom revision field that may be contained on your drawing title block. Last, Data Management helps to control your hardcopy output as well, placing watermarks on the output that indicate file status, such as “released – valid for 24 hours” or “under revision – not for production”
FAB - Adept’s electronic Audit Trail provides your company a simple method to understand the complete history of each document. Authorized users can see the ongoing activity history of a file, including what action was taken, by whom, and the date and time the action occurred.
Leveraging Adept’s electronic information tracking capabilities dramatically reduces the time and effort it takes to comply with industry standards and regulations and gain industry certifications, such as ISO 9000/9001, QS-9000, AS9100, FDA 21-CFR11, Sarbanes-Oxley, and others.
FAB - Adept’s integrated workflow capabilities help organizations improve productivity and accuracy across the enterprise. With Adept, its simple to create, manage and re-use workflows, and they’re easy to change as your business needs change.
Some documents may have no workflow associated with them at all, and others may have a very simple or more complex workflow. It’s all up to you. You have complete control and peace of mind that your documents are flowing through your organization the way you want them to. And with Adept, you can see the status of an engineering change, or any other document, as it goes through its pre-defined workflow process.
Multiple notification methods help to ensure work and approvals get done in a timely way, and alerts can be set to notify individuals of bottlenecks.
JIM - Data Management is designed to serve as your central point for document access and control, managing documents stored on servers across your enterprise. Document vaults and filestores can easily be replicated to other sites, so file access for users everywhere is local – which means fast! Connected users anywhere can locate the correct version of a file quickly using powerful searching capabilities. All users are working from a central repository – one version of the truth – so everyone is connected and teams can collaborate effectively.
FAB - Adept’s Transmittal Automation feature makes the process of creating, editing, sending, and tracking transmittals easy and fast, and reduces the chance of errors compared to paper-based transmittal processes. And because transmittals are created from within Adept, your single point of document access control, you can rest assured that you have the correct document versions and any referenced files that may be required.
FAB - Each license of Adept includes and is tightly integrated with Oracle’s AutoVue visualization software, the premier solution for enterprise-wide viewing, markup and compare. Adept provides native support for hundreds of formats including 3D CAD parts & assemblies, 2D CAD drawings, electronic and PC board layouts & schematics, scanned & raster documents, office documents and graphics files. With Adept, stakeholders across the extended enterprise can access critical data and provide feedback at all stages of the design process and project lifecycle, reducing communication barriers and project costs while accelerating project completion times.
Adept delivers native document viewing, allowing users to view and interrogate original documents.
Adept’s multi-user markup capabilities allow team members to collaborate on designs and project information. Team members can communicate feedback, change requests, comments, and instructions in an effective and timely manner, through markups and real time collaboration. And Adept allows users to compare different versions of 2D drawings or 3D models to see what has changed.
JIM - Attributes from AutoCAD-based drawings and Properties from Inventor and SolidWorks files are automatically extracted, eliminating manual data entry and ensuring this information can be leveraged when searching for files. Because this link is bi-directional, authorized users can update one or many attributes from the Client interface, in single or batch mode, without opening the files themselves. Data Management can track AutoCAD XREF, image and overlay file relationships throughout their lifecycle. It manages the complex file relationships that exist between Inventor or SolidWorks parts, assemblies, drawings and configurations as well. As files are checked out, revised, routed through workflows, copied, moved, or renamed - all relationships remain intact. These file relationships are displayed in an easy to understand tree structure so you can see “where-used” and “composed of” information.
The integration inside AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks is easy to use so designers have fast access to the information they need, and good document management tools at their fingertips.
JIM - The Automatic File Naming functionality provides powerful and flexible configuration options to make it easy for administrators to create diverse naming schemes for all departments. Administrators have the ability to provide numbering templates using a variety of format segments, including an auto-generated number sequence, fixed width text placeholders for user entered text, pre-defined data from drop down lists, delimiters, restricted field data, and user entered free text. All of these Automatic File Naming format segments can be combined in any sequence to create easy-to-use, error-free naming standards.
FAB - Adept PublishWave, an add-on module, enables single or batch mode printing to hardcopy and publishing to PDF, DWF or TIF formats directly from the Adept application. You get high fidelity, native application output quality – without having to open the file in its native application.
PublishWave enables Adept users to print or publish large jobs efficiently without monopolizing a workstation, and without the need for an expensive license of a CAD application on each user’s desktop. It allows you to publish and print AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks drawings as well as Word and Excel files.
AutoCAD output can be preconfigured to ensure consistent quality and that corporate standards are used
Files can be published to Adept, or to a network folder or ftp location. And of course Adept takes care of ensuring the correct document versions are being printed and published, and places watermarks on your output to indicate file status.
JIM - The application of Bill of Material management in product development and manufacturing is extremely important. BOM is a cornerstone of almost all processes and activities – from early requirement and design, to manufacturing, services and support. Therefore, efficient BOM management is an absolutely important element of product development processes.
Leveraging the parent/child relationship information, we can quickly create an accurate BOM from CAD models.
The BOM enables the final transition from product concept to a concrete, touchable object. The more accurate and complete the contents of the bill of materials are, the better decisions can be made about how to get the product efficiently and cost-effectively into the customer’s hand.
Utilizing property mapping, this makes for consistent numbering of the BOM data in preparation for export to the Enterprise Resource Planner application.
When companies utilize an MRP or ERP system, BOM management information is commonly transferred with manual methods. These processes require valuable employee time and greatly increase the opportunity for human error, indirectly resulting in product items that are out of specification.
Exporting this accurate BOM data to a standard file format, increases accuracy when bring this information to the ERP system.
The amount of time it will take hinges on many factors.
The Upfront assessment is designed to uncover this information.
Small or large implementation use the same process but to a lesser or greater degree.
This entire process is typically 1 to 3 weeks depending on the scope.
So…which product is best for you?
