Enron And The Collapse Of Enron
INTRODUCTION
Enron, one of the most influential and profitable companies in utility, paper, and communications
for numerous years, came crashing down and filed for bankruptcy in fall 2001 (Bottiglieri, Revile,
and Grunewald 1). Houston National Gas and InterNorth fused together and created Enron in 1985.
The company faced initial problems of debt and loss of exclusive rights to pipelines (Thomas 1).
This accounting method allowed Enron to log entire profits from the life of a contract in the year
the company made the deal (Stewart 116).
Three individuals and one firm had major impacts in the collapse of Enron, which were Kenneth
Lay, Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow, and Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm. Kenneth Lay was
the Chief Executive Officer when the company began in 1985. (Cunningham and Harris 32).
Jeffrey Skilling was another key individual in the story of Enron and made his first major
appearance in 1990. He held many titles at Enron, including president and Chief Financial Officer,
and Chief Executive Officer (Chandra 100). The third individual is Andrew Fastow, who also
joined Enron in 1990. Fastow s major contribution to Enron was the use of special purpose entities.
SPEs allowed the company to keep losses and debts off Enron s financial statements and dump them
in other hidden areas (Chandra 101). The final group was Arthur Andersen. Arthur Andersen s
biggest impact on Enron was the allowance of mark to market accounting, which allowed Enron to

Embolism In Hospital Setting
It is not uncommon for death to occur in an unusual way in a hospital setting. One such
occurrence is frequently identified as a pulmonary embolism. The patient comes in with an initial
diagnosis of lung cancer with metastasis to the liver. She is expected to live for a few more days.
To show compassion, the nurse decides to give her a bath, change her linens, and help her become
more comfortable. After providing her with care, the patient has one more request, to get a leg
massage. Oblivious to any complications, the nurse proceeds to give the patient a good leg rub.
Minutes later, the patient is found unresponsive on the floor. The patient suffers from a venous
thromboembolism in one of her legs, that when massaged, travels all the way up... Show more

Anti embolic stockings work by exerting graded circumferential pressure from distal to
proximal regions of the leg conforming to a Sigel pressure profile. These increase blood
velocity, promote venous return, and have shown to be effective (Barker, 2011). Intermittent
pneumatic compression periodically compresses the calf and thigh muscles, mimicking the
muscle pump created by walking, promoting fibrinolysis, and have shown to also be effective
(Barker, 2011). Foot impulse devices increase venous outflow and reduce stasis in immobilized
patients. They also mimic walking by compressing the plantar venous plexus, and they are
effective after orthopedic surgery in reducing asymptomatic DVT (Baker, 2011). Mechanical
methods will most likely be used in patients at high risk for bleeding. Physiotherapy and nursing
has also been a method used by staff in increasing the prevention of VTE. Risks can potentially be
mediated by mechanical calf and foot venous compression, bed exercise, active or passive, and
early mobilization, and by hydration (Barker,

Accounting Scandals And Enron Accounting Scandal
Introduction:
In this research paper I will be examining accounting scandals, specifically the Enron Accounting
Scandal. First, I will be exploring the history of Enron. Then I will be going into further depth on
what accounting issues Enron faced and then I will be explaining what a derivative is. Finally yet
importantly, I will consider the different types of Accounting Fraud following a conclusion.
Accounting Scandals are born due to collective greed and corporate arrogance. In the case of Enron
there was a lot of euphoria before the downfall. Stock prices soared and Enron was seen as one
of the most innovative companies in the world. However, things seemed too good to be true.
Eventually the company was exposed for its wrongdoing which led to the collapse. Many more of
such cases were exposed during the 2008/2009 recession such as the Lehmann Brothers scandal. As
mentioned earlier, many financial scandals have happened in the past but none of those are nearly
as bad as the scandals when it gets to trading in derivatives.
Summary of the Enron Accounting Scandal:
In the year of 1985 after the federal deregulation of natural gas pipelines, Enron was born. The
company was formed by merging the following two companies: Houston Natural Gas and
InterNorth, a Nebraska pipeline company.
In the process of the merger, Enron incurred massive debt and, as the result of deregulation, no
longer had exclusive

Ancient Greek Trabeated System
The trabeated system, otherwise known as post and lintel, was one of the most important systematic
principles used by ancient Greek architects. The way the structures were designed was by two
vertical columns or posts holding up an horizontal architrave. Architects used this technique to
support the weight of the architrave above openings. The trabeated system, not only used in ancient
Greece, was also seen throughout prehistoric architecture as far back as the stone age.
Stonehenge, assumed to be finished in 1500 B.C., is one of the most iconic architectural structures
in the history of the world. Built in the Stone age, this monumental structure was advanced for its
time. It was assumed to be a burial site for the Aristocrats of the time.

I.Executive Summary
There are not too many people who are fully aware of what corporate housing really is and what
it consists of. Corporate Housing offers an alternative to hotels when the clients are planning on
staying for a couple of weeks. Our goal is to make our company memorable for every client, we
need to get to know our clients and truthfully address their needs accordingly. We will be reviewing
the nature of corporate housing, how we plan on presenting the product, what locations and
demographics are ideal for this, we will research our competitors, and finally create a marketing
strategy which will consists of our: pricing, promotion, distribution, and our sales support.

Achivers have a big commitment to both their careers and their families so it is important for us
to provide them and their family the utmost comfort. For Strivers we can offer them the more
modern package and attempt in selling them any additional items as well as place them in a
upscale luxury apartment homes, lofts or condominiums. Experiencers tend to spend a large part
of their income on fashion, socializing and entertainment we need to offer them the luxurious
vacation rentals. Makers tend to lean toward value instead of luxury this is why we can offer
them the traditional package at a lower rate versus the Modern / Contemporary package which
would be at a higher rate. Survivors tend to be more comfortable with the familiarity of the goods
or services. Which is why we should be make the units as comfortable as possible.
Consumer Behavior consists of what will Corporate Housing clients receive? What these clients
receive is the convinence of a home like setting versus the tiny uncomftrable hotel rooms. They
have the choice to dine in versus always having to dine out at a hotel with a fully equpped
kitchen and they will receive weekly maid service. Another point would be why will these services
be rendered? These services are offered to allow clients to stay a comftable and safe place. When
will the services be rendered? The client who will be in

10 Tips for Selecting a Roofing ContractorChoosing a good roofing company Select the right
roofers to avoid long term problemsSelecting a properly certified and high quality roofing
contractor is important and often a difficult task for consumers who are unfamiliar with the roofing
industry. Roofing in the Ontario region is an unregulated industry. It is important to select certified
roofers who will be in business to honour their warranty in the future. There are a large number of
roofing contractors who are not certified and have both low quality installations and poor
workmanship. The average start up business is usually closed within three years, and may be out

An established contractor should be able to provide a business address, phone, and email. A
permanent business address is a sign of a stable company. Does the contractor use
subcontractors? Subcontractors are often paid on a per job basis, which can result in poor
workmanship as the job is completed as fast as possible. Does the company supply a written
contract and estimate (and do they require a deposit)? All job specifications and prices should be
supplied in writing. Established companies with strong financial stability usually do not require a
deposit. Deposits are common, be wary of any contractor requesting more than 1/3 of the cost of
the project. Check to see if the company is a member of the Better Business Bureau and the local
Chamber of Commerce. Research all potential contractors on the Better Business Bureau and your
local Chamber of Commerce. Look for the overall business rating and keep in mind the general
size of the company when checking for complaints. Is the company registered with the Workplace
Safety and Insurance Board and do they have liability insurance? This is important as an
established company should be in good standing with the WSIB and have liability

The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients
The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy
studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The
purpose of the study was to assess the safety of non inflammatory drugs to treat cardiovascular
disease (BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study s 10 million participants, 92% had
cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofenreduced risk of
worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For
minors, physicians lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above
age seventy seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack.
Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of
frequent ibuprofen users. Long term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract.
Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to
consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen enriched blood,
which may result in heart failure. Readers will draw focus on the alarm and potential health scares
through medical evidence. As I compared the British Medical Journaland the guardian, all relative
information must be relayed throughout the document. All research shown in the BMJwas fully

Graduation Memoir
Graduation memoir Senior year! Every senior is eager for graduation, their making college
decisions, taking their SAT tests, getting senior portraits, and looking forward to getting ready
for graduation day. Thinking back now, almost every adult told me my high school years would
fly by, they were right. I remember being an anxious eighth grader thinking about starting my
freshman year of high school. We went from being at the top of the school to being at the
bottom of a new one. All of our middle school teachers always told us about how our high school
teachers wont hold our hands and how we will be on our own. Being in high school is completely
different than being in elementary school and middle school. Its almost like each year we have
more and more freedom but more responsibility. Sophomore year was when it got more difficult

Stephen King The Shining Theme
The Shining, by Stephen King, is a classic piece of American literature. Published in 1977, the story
focuses on the Torrance family, and their horrific adventure at the Overlook Hotel. Taking place in
1975 in the mountains of Colorado, the story takes a terrible turn towards death after Jack Torrance,
the father of the family, begins being taken over by the evil spirits that lurk in the hotel, and
essentially loses his mind. Jack begins expressing aggressive behavior and threatens to hurt his
family. In the end, he not only threatens, but actually attempts to kill his five year old son, Danny,
and his wife, Wendy. The orientation of the story around the family produces the theme of the
novel, that inner demons and fears can destroy us. There are many passages that demonstrate this
theme throughout the novel, and prove that it is the most prevalent theme.
This plot is similar to the plots of many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anxiety In Italo Calvino s The Nonexistent Knight
Reflective statement. During our discussion, many aspects of Agilulf s personality were brought
up. This caused me to think more deeply on his character. The things I realized made me compare
him to myself and I drew several comparisons between his behavior and my generalized anxiety.
He seemed to have a more defined anxiety though, which I soon concluded was most likely social
anxiety due to his problems communicating. Title: Depression and anxiety in Italo Calvino s The
Nonexistent Knight In Italo Calvino s The Nonexistent Knight the main character, Agilulf, is a
disembodied knight in Charlemagne s army who is often at odds with his fellow knights due to his
perfectionism. At the beginning of the book he appears to be cold and businesslike, admonishing

His dificulties seem to stem from his self conciousness about his lack of a corporeal body, which
many knights often bring up in attempts to discredit him and when joking about him.
Selfconciousnes often coincides with social anxiety, either being the cause of the anxiety or the
result. He also seems to be more confident in himself before Charlemagne cuts him off for his name
being too long winded and tells him that he will never remember it. This could be the incident that
set off Agilulf s anxiety and depression, along with his unwillingness to start conversations. Often
times sufferers of social anxiety have a defining moment in their childhoods or adolescence which
shuts them off from the world, making them distrusting of others and unable to confidently speak
with others, although this is not always the case. While this may not be the cause of Agilulf s
inability to communicate, it could certainly be an important

This means that whatever is said about the nature of God and God s being in the world must be
based on the biblical account of God s revelatory activity. We are not free to say anything we
please about God. Although scripture is not the only source that helps us to recognize divine
activity in the world, it cannot be ignored if we intend to speak of the Holy One of Israel.
(2)The doctrine of God in black theology must be of the God who is participating in the
liberation of the oppressed of the land. This hermeneutical principle arises out of the first.
Because God has been revealed in the history of oppressed Israel and decisively in the Oppressed
One, Jesus Christ. It is impossible to say anything about God without seeing him as being involved
in the contemporary liberation of all oppressed people.
Therefore, the God in black theology is the God of and for the oppressed, the God who comes into
view in their liberation. Any other approach is a denial of biblical revelation (BTL; Pg.

Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life
ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of
mathematics that plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define
different matrices associated with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of
rank of an incidence matrix. Key Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix,
Circuit matrix and Line graph. INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of
representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as
v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence matrix B associated with graph G of order
n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0 Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and
its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix contains only two elements 0
and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a given any geometric
representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding incidence
matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph
without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of
representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s

Stereotypes In The Wasp Factory
The novels Lady Audely s secret , Rebecca , and The wasp Factory possess analogous elements of
the gothic. They present diverging concepts of femininity rebelling against imposed gender
stereotypes, and focalise on the usually marginalised abjected figures of society. (Kristeva, 1982:3)
This essay aims to argue how the gendered the monster are embodiments of social anxieties and
ideologies and how challenge these projections. Mutual notions within the texts such as: the use of
gothic tropes, uncanny gendersubverting society s ideals, and monsters as metaphors will be
explored. Feminist and Gothic critics, predominantly Cohen and Butler, will be engaged in order to
consider distinctive vantage points.

Countless research findings were mentioned in the text, but two were particularly moving. There

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado
The American Romantic/ Gothic period was basically the Renaissance of American literature.
American romantics were influenced by eras that before them, and their writings were a different
reaction against the philosophy of the previous eras. With this being said, American Romanticism
grew from salvation, and guilt, as they excitedly developed their own unique style of writing.
American romantic authors had a strong sense of general identity and pride in being American. For
this reason, American authors during this time had a discrete desire to develop their own unique
character separate from British literature. In order to accomplish this goal, the poet Edgar Allan Poe
was rebellious and personal in his writing; and this explains the extraordinary creativity found
throughout his work. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique and dark form writing style the mysterious
style of writing showed emotion and drama. He used the themes of Gothic, death of the women he
loved, and good vs. evil. These forms of writing styles are shown in The Cask of Amontillado , The
Raven , and Tell Tale Heart. It demonstrates all the major aspects of the American Romantic
revolution: rejection of classicism, eager naivety, and unusual detachment regarding time and space.
The story of The Cast of Amontillado is a classic Gothic horror tale of a mad man wanting
revenge. This short story can be quite frightening, because the narrator is able to keep a calm voice
during his manipulation and killing of

Francisco Franco
Francisco Franco was the dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975, including the time of WW2.
Perhaps he was better known as El Caudillo, translated into English as The Leader. He was born
and raised in Spain. He was a very brilliant military general who led Nationalist rebels in defeating
the Spanish government during the Spanish Civil War. Although he was viewed as a Fascist
Dictator, he strongly opposed communism. He was an extremely important figure in the course of
world history.

Franco was engaged in 1917. His fiancГ©e was Carmen Polo. Their marriage was delayed,
however, because Franco was called back into active duty in Morocco. They would have one
daughter, Carmen, together in 1928.
The Spanish Monarchy fell in 1931 and the new government was strongly opposed to the
military. The General Military Academy was broken up and Franco was placed on the inactive
list. He was restored to active duty in 1933 and in 1934 was promoted to major general. Franco s
tactical genius shined once again when he was called upon to crush a small band of rebels in
October of 1934. After this, he was promoted to chief of the Spanish Army s general staff. After this
promotion, Franco started to strengthen the military, as the military was weakened by the
antimilitary policy of the Spanish Republic.
The government of Spain dissolved once again and Franco was removed from the general staff. He
was moved to duty in the Canary Islands. Although it was against Franco s nature to oppose the
government, he joined Nationalist rebels against the government.
This was the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. Franco flew to Morocco and took command of
the Spanish Army there. He united the Nationalist parties and assumed the role of leader. The

How Did Jim Jones Create A Massacre In Guyana
On November 18, 1978 one of the most tragic American massacres would occur in Guyana. This
massacre took the lives of 914 Americans making it the largest loss of American lives in a non
natural disaster before 9/11. Surprisingly, this massacre was not an act of war, as many members
were told to believe, but it was part of a religious organization under the leadership of paranoid Jim
Jones. Jones created the movement to create the liberation of others through socialism, but many
did not recognize the trap. Jim Jones was born and raised in the small town of Lynn, Indiana. The
relationship with his parents was disconnected, making church and religion help Jones receive the
emotional warmth and acceptance he never got (Chidester 2). Neighbors and residents of the town
stated they remembered Jones at a young age preaching to children, taking stray animals into the
garage for healing and preaching events, and even baptizing children in the river. Jones disagreed

Decolonization Period Of Afric A European Point Of View
Decolonization period in Africa didn t come peacefully in all the countries. Many times the natives
had to get violent in order to achieve their independence. Although the history of this struggle has
two sides, it has always been portrayed through a European point of view. This painted the Africans
as pure savages without truly examining what drove them to commit these violent acts. Europeans
have always bent history to show themselves in a positive manner. One of the battles in which
history has been mainly one sided is the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya. In this paper I want to
explore the true reasons the revolt started and how the European interpretations of this took
away from the real reasons why ordinary people took part. By seeing what was used in
portraying a negative image, I will try to break down what were the events leading up to it and
what hand did the British play. Examining events that took place after the war had been won by
the British. By comparing and contrasting I will show the double standards and the importance of
consistently questioning history and media. The Mau Mau uprising is said to have started the
course of independence for Kenya. Although the movement started way before, the official date of
the uprising is from 1952 through 1960 .It started with the Kikuyu people in Central Kenya. As the
Mau Mau group grew larger it became more and more violent. Killing not only the Europeans but

Essay on Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnet 20
Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnet 20
Sonnet 20 appears to be about an affectionate love that the speaker develops for an unnamed
man. He describes the man as having a woman s face that Nature painted with its own hand. The
speaker calls this admired person his master mistress. He goes on to say that this man has the
gentle heart of a woman but is not inconsistent as is the way with women. He has eyes that are
brighter than the eyes of any women. His eyes are so true and sincere that they light up every
object that they look upon. He is a man of shape and form (and of authority) and all other figures
are in his control. Furthermore, he steals the attention of men and amazes the hearts of women. ...

Although during the Renaissance, the friendships between men were usually openly affectionate,
Sonnet 20 reveals a homosexual desire that the poet seems to be obsessed with.
The Shakespearean sonnet does not follow the ideal form of an iambic pentameter. Shakespeare
plays with this poem and deliberately stretches each line so that all fourteen lines end with an
eleventh syllable. The feet have been marked and each line is left with an extra syllable at the
end. Shakespeare was well aware of the iambic pentameter in writing his poems. Therefore, each
feet is unstressed stressed. Stressing the last syllable of each sentence shows the significance of
that last word and its meaning. In this case, each word at the end of every line ends in an
unstressed syllable. To keep the model of an iambic pentameter, the short syllables at the end of
each line has been omitted. Most feet follows the iambic form. However, there are few that do
not because a poet cannot change the way a word is normally pronounced. For example, Hast
thou is a trochee but quickly preceding it is an iambic, which, once again, keeps with the
traditional form (line 2). The same holds true in this next example. Mine be appears to be a
spondee but that pattern breaks with the next feet of an iambic (line 6).
On the other hand, Sonnet 20 does follow the

differ from the sporadic effects of his editing. The film s cinematography is captured in a hand

the mood. Breathless captures the New Wave genre in these methods of breaking Hollywood s
typical rules in film making and its use of documentary style

Essay Colonization Across the Globe
Colonization Across the Globe
After Christopher Columbus landed in the West Indies in 1492, Spain and Portugal started
disputing areas of influence on the South American continent. The dispute was eventually settled by
the Pope (Alexander VI), who in 1493, drew up defined areas of influence for the two nations with
the idea of spreading Christianity to the natives in those territories. In time the Portuguese territory
became known as Brazil, hence the working language of that country to this day is Portuguese,
while most of the rest of the continent speaks Spanish.
On 1 August 1498, during his third voyage, Columbus finally sighted the South American mainland
for the first time. The next white explorer to reach the continent was the ... Show more content on

The Aztecs were by all accounts cruel masters over other local tribes, with the result that some of
the subjected peoples actually welcomed the arrival of the Spanish. A few of these tribes would
physically help the Spanish invaders against the Aztecs.
The Aztec religion was one of the reasons why there was so much resentment amongst the Amerind
tribes: it demanded daily human sacrifice and most of the victims for this sacrifice were seized
from surrounding Amerind tribes by the Aztecs.
The Aztec religion also played a major role in destabilizing Aztec resistance to the white invaders:
one of their gods was a plumed serpent named Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind and learning.
According to Aztec legend, Quetzalcoatl had been tricked and disgraced by another god,
Tezcatlipoca, and then travelled to the east. He vowed to return and destroy those who worshipped
his enemies, accompanied by all powerful white skinned gods.
By the time of the Spanish assault in 1519, word of the arrival of the whites, with their plumed
helmets, in the Caribbean Sea had travelled to the Aztecs, triggering the widely held superstition
that an angry Quetzalcoatl and his white skinned gods had indeed returned to exact revenge.
This fear created confusion in the Aztec camp: should they attack the newcomers, who might be the
avenging god, or should they try and appease them? This hesitancy to act was exploited by the
Spanish invaders.

Eulogy Of A Humorous Wedding
We are all gathered today to commemorate my life. Here I am, lying in my coffin, wearing full
white dress, and excessive make up to hide how pale I am today. Some may say that I lived a very
short life. And that I was a very nice person, but I was not. I was a girl who does a lot of bad things
for the one I loved. I was the girl who swears a lot even it was not needed. I was a girl who
disobeys my parents just for some guy who did not even deserve it. I was a sinner, and that may be
the reason why I died early. Let me talk about my life. My life was indeed short, too short for me to
experience pure happiness. I had an exciting life. I learned how to value the people who were in my
life. I learned how to accept that not all people will stay.

Janet Waking By John Crowe Ransom
The poem, Janet Waking , symbolizes a turning point in a child s life. It starts out with a young
kid in a slumber, and it ends with a mourning of a beloved pet. This shift that John Crowe
Ransom creates shows just how drastic this step in life was. Since the story is told from a father
s point of view, we get to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how
young and undeveloped her mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author
is trying to convey. Throughout the poem, the poet carefully picks and constructs words and
sentences that perfectly give the poem life and meaning. Firstly, the name of the hen is Chucky.
Chucky is most definitely not a common name for a chicken, let alone for a hen.

Eden Park Research Paper
Introduction: The Colosseum and Eden park are both widely known structures. Eden park
commonly known to have held the 2011 rugby world cup. The Colosseum in Rome was known to
have held gladiator games and many other historical entertainment in roman times. Entry ways: In
rome the Colosseum has over LXXX (80) entry ways, this was made for quick seating before the
entertainment began. These door ways had roman numerals on top so people with tickets could
find the entryway corresponding to their ticket. Eden park has a similar system. People buy their

The sports played at eden park are rugby, cricket, and soccer. This is the place where people can
support their country or team, in playing that sport they are interested in. rugby has had a huge part
in supporting eden park, due to the 2011 rugby world cup being held there.
Founders: the founder of Eden park was a man named Harry Ryan, as he walked past this piece
of land he saw a space where he could play his favourite game, cricket. Soon enough construction
began and soon Eden park was born. The idea for the Colosseum came from a man named Titus
Flavius, this was due to the amount of people coming to the games before the Colosseum was
built. Up to 60,000 people would come and watch the games in a field. Titus saw that too many
people were coming so he thought about building a structure that was able to hold up to 80,000
people at a time. This was also for people to be comfortable at the games. Conclusion: In
conclusion the Colosseum and eden park have their differences and similarities. They both carry
their own history and have a lot of stories to tell. Without the Colosseum we probably wouldn t
have most of the structures we see today, and many people should be grateful for the time and effort

Cardboard And Cups Experiment Essay
Have you ever wanted to stand on something that is very very light without crushing it?
Something you can t stand because it is impossible. Here s an idea though how about taking
cardboard and cups? Now, what can you do with these items? I know. How about you try to do
the paper cup walk. It would be amazing if you could stand on dixie cups and just two pieces of
cardboard with all your weight. The goal to do with this project is to not crush one dixie cup. Also
you should try cutting out the bottom of the cups and see if you can stand on them without
crushing one cup. Everyone does this experiment different that is why it is fun. Pressure is a
physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it. When you stand...

Tension is the state of being stretched tight. For example if you have a piece of paper and you
try to stretch it won t this is called tension. If you cut out the bottom of a cup the tension is gone.
If you try to replace the bottom of the paper cups with something else for example, sand you can
also see that the sand replaces the bottom of the cups. The sand replaces the base to make it even
stronger than it was before. The sand s replacing the tension which causes the cups to stretch back
out again and make this experiment a lot more interesting. Compression is the last thing going on
here in this experiment. Compression is thrust, load, stress, compressing, squeezing, crushing,
weight, and heaviness. Take the paper again and after you ve used tension with it let s use
compression. If you crush the paper into a ball. This is compression. Now compression is similar
to pressure in this project actually, pressure causes compression but they are a little bit different.
Take another example an air compressor. The machine inside is compressing and compressing
because it is trapped. When you cut out the bottoms of the cups you see that the cups fall and you

Spider Man As A Hero
According to Joel D. Chaston, an English professor at Missouri State University, Spider Man is
one of the Marvel Comics most popular superhero, which was created by writer editor Stan Lee.
Chaston claims that Stan Lee is the best known costumed superhero of the Marvel Comics
universe and the star of several comic books and television series. Andy Hunsaker, a comics editor
who has work with Yahoo! Movies, Fancast, Xfinity Television and UGO, among others, covering
movies and television says that Spider Manwas first appeared in the Amazing Fantasy number 15
back in 1962. The character has gained popularity among American society, and has remained
popular until today. The history of Spider Man first started off with an idea of a writer named Stan
Lee; then there is a present day version of the hero; Peter Parker, and how he fights with his dark
side, Venom. First and Foremost, the hero Spider Man started with a creative ideas that Stan Lee
developed in 1962. Nolan Feeney, a journalist, and a staff editor at Entertainment Weekly states
that one day, Lee s publisher told him that he must come up with a new superhero idea. That day,
Lee went home and started thinking about what would a new hero be like. He saw a fly was
climbing on the wall, so he came up with an idea that a new hero should be able to climb walls.

All work group members influence and are influenced by the other members, and members have
different bases of power and areas of knowledge. Judges have formal authority and may direct
actions of the court and the attorneys. Prosecutors have superior case knowledge and have
discretion about what matters will go to trial. Defense attorneys are able to interview witnesses,
obtain evidence through discovery, and file pretrial motions. The four common goals of the

Many country songs, such as Think of You by Chris Young, can be used to help heal a broken
heart, or let a person know they aren t alone when going through a breakup. Songs have a very

Young and Dee Daffodil have very similar ideas when it comes to a broken heart, yet are

Weight Training In Adolescents
During the 1980s and 1990s, it was commonly known that weight training in youths could lead to
more injuries due to a non fully developed stature. However, NEISS data concludes that weight
training is not necessarily to the cause of injury. Instead, poor technique, excessive loading, poorly
designed equipment, and lack of proper supervision is the leading cause. More recently, findings
indicate a low risk of injury in children and adolescents who follow age appropriate training
guidelines. It is important to consult a trained professional to develop a proper training regime for a
specific age group. The traditional concerns that resistance training is harmful to the immature
skeleton are beginning to wavier due to scientific evidence that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Carrie Chapman Catt s Commencement...
The rhetorical essay has been a tradition in public speaking since Ancient Greece. Meant to
persuade an audience to believe an idea or to embrace a way of thinking, public speakers have
utilized this technique for centuries to inspire change in those who listen to it. Carrie Chapman
Catt s commencement speech to the 1936 graduating class at Sweet Briar College is a speech that
exemplifies the key devices and methods of persuasion in rhetoric, as well as inspiring her audience,
a girls only institution of higher learning, to work hard not only to improve their own lives, but to
create a world greater than their own for generations to come. Carrie Chapman Catt delivered a

A large part of the pathos used is in the form of loaded language, which is used to make her
audience understand the severity of the oppression women faced during the Women s Century.
Throughout her address, Catt used the rhetorical device of emotional diction to continuously
imprint upon the audience a mixed feeling; disgust toward the mistreatment the women of that time
faced, and gratefulness for the change that suffrage leaders, like Carrie Chapman Catt herself, gave
to the women that sat in the audience the day she gave her speech. The words suffered, epithet, and
humiliating, were strategically placed at points in Catt s essay to add emphasis to her many
emotional appeals to her. Few instances of humor are used to make the tone of the speech less
melancholic, in addition to providing examples of the different ways women during that time
discovered loopholes and challenged the rigid rules and customs involving women. One anecdote
that perfectly encompasses this strategy pertains to a woman who attended town meetings in place
of her husband, and discovered that by starting her opinions with my husband thinks , she could
bypass the social custom that women could not speak in public. Although this is not an overly
humorous story, it does aid in alleviating

The Power of Rebuilding
Warwood was still in shambles, and normal kingdom life had been suspended until essential repairs
were completed. Since Xavier couldn t physically lift and move things due to his injured hand, his
father had assigned him to one of his most trusted friends, General Loren Hardcastle, who was
organizing telekinetic citizens. Today, their task was to clear out rubble and assist masons and
construction workers in rebuilding the gatehouse, which had been demolished during the initial
onslaught of LeMasters invasion.
Rebuilding of the gatehouse would be a simple task and Xavier was looking forward to doing
something constructive, regardless of how tedious or boring it might become. Although his powers
could be intense at times, he felt confident that he had a secure command over them and could
summon them without difficulty. He didn t like to brag, but there were few kids in the kingdom
who could rival his empowerment level and strength.
However, there was one power that still proved challenging for Xavier: that of impediment. He
struggled to block telepathic advances, especially when faced with a strong, capable telepath. His
confrontation with William LeMasters only punctuated this deficiency. Although he had made
gains in impediment and could, at times, hoodwink Uncle Mike, his father was a different matter
altogether. The king was the most powerful telepathic alive. For this reason, when the new school
term began, Uncle Mike would no longer be teaching him telepathy; his

The study will look at the superbike segment of Yamaha and focus on the Yamaha R1, a popular
sports bike within the superbike market. The term innovation is defined as a change that creates a
new dimension of performance (Drucker Hesselbein, 2002) and in the context of this study it is
both the element of change and the increase in product performance which raises the questions,
whether it is this element alone which fuels the success for sustaining competitive advantage?
Competitive advantage is defined as a position that a firm occupies in its competitive landscape
(Porter, 1985). Porter described the position as a situation whether sustainable or not as a point
whereby earnings exceed costs. This simple calculation suggests, according to Porter that ordinary
competitive pressures are not able to drive down the firms earnings to the point where they cover
all costs and just provide sufficient additional return to keep capital invested. The notion of
sustainability is an area which is difficult to achieve here as the

Moral Decay Of The Great Gatsby
The inevitable failure of the American Dream and the tragic death of Jay Gatsby conveyed in F.
Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby exemplifies the moral decay of the 1920s. Fitzgerald
is critical of a hedonistic society consumed in materialism, he expresses this through the men and
women who dazzled like champagne and stars at Gatsby s parties, which were taken by the root
in society to live the perfect world of their own. James Gatz achieves his dream of self
transformation. He acquires wealth and status and becomes Jay Gatsby. It is Gatsby s unrealistic

These were points where society fails to obligate Gatsby s dream. Fitzgerald exposes the
American society and the value of Gatsby to the society. In a society that relies on luxuries,
Gatsby throws parties to attract Daisy s attention. Gatsby expresses his same needs to be keeped
busy, just as Daisy does. Nick describes Gatsby as never quite still, there was always a tapping
foot somewhere or the impatient opening and closing of a hand (Fitzgerald, pg 68). Gatsby fills
his house full of interesting people...who do interesting things (Fitzgerald, pg 96). Taking this
issue into consideration, those who filled Gatsby s house was only there to enjoy the illegal
alcohols, music and party. Nevertheless, Gatsby wasn t ever aware of who walked in or out of
his house. He only focused on Daisy s appearance. Towards the end, Gatsby build his life onto
two aspects, the first being is to build relationships to the wealthy such as Dan Cody or Meyer
Wolfsheim for money and the second is two build relationships to people who are connected to
Daisy. However, Gatsby is unable to make social connections because of his own social
awkwardness, which as becomes more and more apparent, he compensates this with his wealth
and possessions. The best example of this is Gatsby s parties, in which the guests all have an
excellent time, and know of Gatsby, but know almost nothing about him, even to the point
where nobody seems to know where he even came from. Gatsby s awkwardness and fear of real
people causes him to close himself off even at his own parties, and hope that somehow the good
time people have admired him more but towards the end Gatsby dream is inevitable failure

UBI To Combat Economic Inequality
The dominant in group of men have subjected women to a minority out group. This separation has
caused unequal treatment, double standards, and stereotypes, which all help keep women in a

Residents usually receive somewhere between $1,000 to $2,000 per payout. The APF receives
widespread support from the residents of Alaska and any politician who suggest a change in
policy would most likely not recover from the backlash of such a suggestion (Widerquist, Howard,
2012). Considering its 36 year track run and positive public opinion, it is no wonder people call it a
successful program. Another highly publicized attempt was done in

Provide the class with the details of the project (location, acres restored, methods used, species
benefited if available, etc.). Be sure to integrate what you find with what you are learning in your
text and other readings and supplement it with additional research.
ALSO, as September 17th is Constitution Day, I want you to reflect on this and comment on it in
your forums for this week. The preamble of the US Constitution directs the Federal Government to
promote the general welfare .... secure the blessings of liberty . ..and protect ourselves and our
posterity . When thinking about our obligation to protect the environment (e.g., plants, animals,
habitat, ecosystem services), can a case be made that we are constitutionally bound to do so based
on the quotes I gave you? What do you think? If so, how does that play into our responsibility to
conserve and restore the environment? If not, why not?
For this week s forum, after searching for wetlands restoration, I found a local wetlands restoration
project that was completed in November 2011 and encompassed an area of 150 acres. The San
Dieguito Wetland Restoration Project included the coastal area of San Dieguito Lagoon and the
San Dieguito River Park estuarine and riverine wetland systems, respectively which serve an
important role in the local ecology. They provide a stop for birds along the Pacific Flyway, nesting
and foraging areas for endangered species and serve as a fish hatchery.

Act Of Thecla Essay
The Acts of Thecla describes Thecla s trials and journey as she becomes Christian; this was written
by the author as a way of emphasizing the importance of women s roles in Christianity. Compared
to the other women protagonists that were read about in class, Penthesileia and Judith, Thecla is
passive for a heroine. The author of The Acts of Thecla has a contrasting view of women in
Christianity when compared to other Christians in the first two centuries of the Common Era.
Having a femaleprotagonist is important to The Acts of Thecla because the trials she faced were
specific to her role as a female. Thecla is sentenced to be burned at the stake after refusing to
marry Thamyris. Refusing to get to married to your betrothed was seen as breaking a contract.
When Thecla is on the pyre being prepared to burn she sees something. And looking over the
crowd, she saw the Lord sitting in the form of Paul and said, As if I were not able to bear up, Paul
has come to look after me. And she looks intently at him, by he took off into the heavens. ... Show

And when she had given this witness she headed off to Seleucia, and after enlightening many
with the word of God, she slept with a fine sleep. (Thecla, 43). This is a finalization of Thecla s
life. This could have ended with Thecla getting married proving that women aren t strong enough
to preach the word of God. Instead it ends with her having reached the end of her life never
breaking her celibacy and preaching the word of God. This gives an insight into the author s mind
and that they believed women had a role as missionaries in Christianity. This view is different from
the majority of Christians during the Common Era. Let women learn in silence with full
submissions. (1 Timothy 5:3). Women were supposed to be there, but not heard. They were not
expected to speak. This is the opposite view from the author of The Acts of

Essay On The Bauhaus
The Bauhaus was set up in 1919 in Weimar by Walter Gropius (1883 1969). In 1925, the Bauhaus
moved from Weimar to Dessau, where a new building is designed by Gropius. In this essay, I am
going to discuss about the opinions made by many writers on Gropius s mindset and intention in
building the new Bauhaus. The architectural aspects and interior space planning of the Bauhaushave
become the identifications of the modernist architecture as well as legend in the history of design
and design education. [The Bauhaus Reassessed] What unique about the Bauhaus is the fact that its
ideologies epitomize changing concepts concerning the nature and purpose of design in the early
twentieth century. The art inherited reinterpreted and then rejected the... Show more content on

Gropius traces the growth of the New Architecture and the work of the now well known Bauhaus,
with accuracy, calls for a new artist and architect educated to new materials and approaches as
well as meeting the requirements of the age. It is also mentioned in The New Architecture and the
Bauhaus that the intention of the Bauhaus was not to reproduce any style , system or belief, but
simply to exert a revitalizing impact on design. Even though the outward forms of the New
Architecture differ primarily in an organic sense from the old, it is the inevitable logical product
of the intellectual, social and technical conditions of our age. A gap has been made with the past,
allowing us to face a new aspect of architecture corresponding to the technical civilization of the
age we live in. The analysis of the dead styles has been destroyed. Furthermore, the new building
throws open the walls like curtains to allow an abundance of fresh air, daylight and sunshine.
Instead of securing the building ponderously into the ground, it poises them lightly, yet firmly at the

Short Story Of Lystra s Attack
A sudden explosion, waves of sound and shifting ground caused both Lystra and Gyn to drop to
the ground in fear of debris. Lystra stood as soon as the explosion dissipated. Running towards
the sound of fire, she soon saw a crowd surrounding the Phoenix. Grabbing one of the
extinguishers near a pile of supplies, Lystra pulled the tab and threw it into the flames. Smoke
engulfed the entire area immediately, and made easy access to the ship as Lystra skirted around
the crowd of humans and Tareelians alike. Alec! she yelled, knowing she had left him working on
the landing gear when Gyn came to talk. A few pieces of debris crunched beneath her feet, as
Lystra awaited some gruesome sight to be revealed in the fading smoke. Lystra! a voice... Show

The fire seemed to start in one of the containers. Several members of the crowd calls out guesses,
from some sort of accident to sabotage. Alec notices something, and pulls out part of my pack, now
nothing but a bit of burnt cloth. The Mech tried to blow up the ship, one of the men says. It was
probably one of the ones who wanted to have her locked up after the Tareelians announced the
surprise to see a Mech still among humans. That moment from then on, if Lystra wasn t blamed
for something, she was being feared by those who thought she would turn her ability against
them. Checking on the landing gear, Lystra worked fast, hoping to finish up before the crowd
started after her. Alec was next to her, picking out a problem there, and loose wire here, as Lystra
guided things into place with a few thoughts while still holding tools like she knew how to use
them. A sudden flash of something, and the next thing Lystra remembered was being thrown to
the ground as Alec covered her. At first, she thought the blood dripping down her arm was hers, at
least until she saw Alec s arm. Sticking out of his arm was a chunk of metal, one of the pieces of
debris still scattered around the ship, thrown by one of the

Adversity In The Crucible
It can occur in any form, slightly stressful or devastating painful. It can happen to anyone, rich,
poor, big or small. Adversity is inevitable. Most people would consider it very negative with no
benefits, but they are not aware of its hidden effect. Roman poet Horace suggests that adversity can
cause a person to demonstrate certain talents, which would not have been present if not for their
misfortune. People and characters in any literary work experience unfortunate events and put
through difficult situations that they need to overcome. Adversity uncovers their concealed gifts
that help them through their hardships. Under its effect, it also can alter the process in developing
a character and transform them into someone completely different.... Show more content on

Cranberries contain a substance that can prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder.
This may help reduce bladder and other urinary tract infections. (Craig, et. al, 1998)
The use of cranberry juice to effectively treat a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is not a heavily
studied topic, but some people believe that it can be used to treat a UTI.
This essay will discuss the scenario of a 22 year old woman, Susan, who is suffering from a UTI,
who wishes to drink cranberry juice as part of her treatment, instead of taking her prescribed
antibiotics. Wanting to receive the best treatment for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four specific databases that were used in this research are, Cinahl, Medline, Joanna Briggs
and Cochrane Library. All of these databases were chosen because they provided up to date peer
reviewed evidence that was relevant to the search terms. This ensures that the evidence that was
found was relevant and reliable. The Cinahl website was useful to gather background information
on the topic such as how a UTI is contracted and how it effects the body. The Cochrane Library
and Medline website was useful to because it gave specific information on studies that had already
been done by other researchers. This helped to ensure that the study that is being undertaken was
searching for the right results.
Types of Evidence
The five types of evidence that have been secured when researching are as follows. The pieces of
evidence are in numerical order, where 1 is the strongest evidence found and 4 is the weakest. 1.
Craig, JC., Jepson, RG., Mihaljevic, L., (1998)
Craig, Jepson, Mihaljevic provided a clear and understandable analysis of the use of cranberries in
the treatment of UTI s. Their evidence shows that the use of cranberry capsules when the person
knows that they may receive a UTI (in surgical catheters) reduces the contractibility by half. This
evidence was relevant to the PICO question.
The analysis was found in the database of systematic reviews.

Theatre Review of Scorcher Essay
Theatre Review of Scorcher
I thought that the set was quite spacious and was well organised out. The set had many different
illustrations that gave a good effect. The actors had plenty of room and not for one minute did the
set the stage looked squashed claustrophobic. The stage was also set out in a circle where the
audience would sit around the stage and the actors would perform while being surrounded by the
audience. This type of seating made the play more interesting instead of the basic theatre positions.
I found that the plot was quite intriguing. Its seemed interesting and the actors portrayed the
character really well, which made us easily understand the storyline. I feel that each ... Show more

The structure looked very attractive and immaculate. It had been painted very well and I liked the
flames that where on the edge of it.
The sound and music was fantastic. One of the best sound affects was when a character was sick
who actually heard the noise of someone being sick. I added affect and was very amusing. Another
great sound was when Darren was about to burn the scorcher; the music gave suspense and was
very dramatic.
2. There many different things I liked about the play. Firstly where the sound affects because they
added dramatic irony and where sometimes amusing. Secondly was the scorcher itself because it
was painted well and was very eye catching. Lastly was the storyline, I thought it was interesting
and the character suited their parts perfectly.
3. After watching the whole of the performance I think that it shows a family that doesn t get on
well together which is happening all around us today.
4.I would not change anything about performance because it was excellent and did not see anything
wrong with it.
5. The way I reacted to the characters in the play was that they all used their voices well because
everything they said was in the right tone was spoken clearly.
Also their movement was excellent and they had rehearsed their parts very well.
6. The two characters that I liked where Darren and Tom/Barry. Firstly, Darren

Human Systems And Climate Change Essay
IPCC Human Systems and Climate Change Overview
Kristen Morgan
California State University, Bakersfield
Human Systems and Climate Change
For the last decade, climate change has been a controversial topic amongst governing nations.
Determining and agreeing upon appropriate courses of action, as well as the decided effects on
populations and ecosystems have also long been debated. With little knowledge on the effects
climate change might have on the human population, as well as our ability (or inability) to adapt,
governing bodies look towards the IPCC, or Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for
information regarding possible risks and impacts from climate change.

The TSU can also assist in preparing the Synthesis Report associated with its respective Assessment
Report. Each of the three Working groups and Task Force work to answer specific questions and
provide publications summarizing findings. All the gathered materials are composed into the final
Synthesis Report. All reports must go through two different formal reviews prior to publication.
Published in the Fourth Assessment, Working Group I identified notable understanding of
noticeable human induced climate change and current Greenhouse Gas data. One of the most
notable points from this publication was the changes in temperature and sea level from 1961 to
1990. As seen in the figure below (Changes, 2007), surface temperature is rising, average sea level
is rising, and snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere is dropping. When comparing the data with
previous centuries using the Paleoclimatic Perspective, it is noted that this change is rather unusual
and has not been observed to have occurred previously. Working Group II published their work in
the Fourth Assessment focused on the effect of climate change on human systems, as well as the
ability of these systems to adapt to changes. Also published in the Fourth Assessment, Working
Group III discusses policies to assist in mitigation of climate change.

  • 2. Enron And The Collapse Of Enron INTRODUCTION Enron, one of the most influential and profitable companies in utility, paper, and communications for numerous years, came crashing down and filed for bankruptcy in fall 2001 (Bottiglieri, Revile, and Grunewald 1). Houston National Gas and InterNorth fused together and created Enron in 1985. The company faced initial problems of debt and loss of exclusive rights to pipelines (Thomas 1). This accounting method allowed Enron to log entire profits from the life of a contract in the year the company made the deal (Stewart 116). Three individuals and one firm had major impacts in the collapse of Enron, which were Kenneth Lay, Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow, and Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm. Kenneth Lay was the Chief Executive Officer when the company began in 1985. (Cunningham and Harris 32). Jeffrey Skilling was another key individual in the story of Enron and made his first major appearance in 1990. He held many titles at Enron, including president and Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Executive Officer (Chandra 100). The third individual is Andrew Fastow, who also joined Enron in 1990. Fastow s major contribution to Enron was the use of special purpose entities. SPEs allowed the company to keep losses and debts off Enron s financial statements and dump them in other hidden areas (Chandra 101). The final group was Arthur Andersen. Arthur Andersen s biggest impact on Enron was the allowance of mark to market accounting, which allowed Enron to record all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Embolism In Hospital Setting It is not uncommon for death to occur in an unusual way in a hospital setting. One such occurrence is frequently identified as a pulmonary embolism. The patient comes in with an initial diagnosis of lung cancer with metastasis to the liver. She is expected to live for a few more days. To show compassion, the nurse decides to give her a bath, change her linens, and help her become more comfortable. After providing her with care, the patient has one more request, to get a leg massage. Oblivious to any complications, the nurse proceeds to give the patient a good leg rub. Minutes later, the patient is found unresponsive on the floor. The patient suffers from a venous thromboembolism in one of her legs, that when massaged, travels all the way up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anti embolic stockings work by exerting graded circumferential pressure from distal to proximal regions of the leg conforming to a Sigel pressure profile. These increase blood velocity, promote venous return, and have shown to be effective (Barker, 2011). Intermittent pneumatic compression periodically compresses the calf and thigh muscles, mimicking the muscle pump created by walking, promoting fibrinolysis, and have shown to also be effective (Barker, 2011). Foot impulse devices increase venous outflow and reduce stasis in immobilized patients. They also mimic walking by compressing the plantar venous plexus, and they are effective after orthopedic surgery in reducing asymptomatic DVT (Baker, 2011). Mechanical methods will most likely be used in patients at high risk for bleeding. Physiotherapy and nursing has also been a method used by staff in increasing the prevention of VTE. Risks can potentially be mediated by mechanical calf and foot venous compression, bed exercise, active or passive, and early mobilization, and by hydration (Barker, ... • 4. Accounting Scandals And Enron Accounting Scandal Introduction: In this research paper I will be examining accounting scandals, specifically the Enron Accounting Scandal. First, I will be exploring the history of Enron. Then I will be going into further depth on what accounting issues Enron faced and then I will be explaining what a derivative is. Finally yet importantly, I will consider the different types of Accounting Fraud following a conclusion. Accounting Scandals are born due to collective greed and corporate arrogance. In the case of Enron there was a lot of euphoria before the downfall. Stock prices soared and Enron was seen as one of the most innovative companies in the world. However, things seemed too good to be true. Eventually the company was exposed for its wrongdoing which led to the collapse. Many more of such cases were exposed during the 2008/2009 recession such as the Lehmann Brothers scandal. As mentioned earlier, many financial scandals have happened in the past but none of those are nearly as bad as the scandals when it gets to trading in derivatives. Summary of the Enron Accounting Scandal: In the year of 1985 after the federal deregulation of natural gas pipelines, Enron was born. The company was formed by merging the following two companies: Houston Natural Gas and InterNorth, a Nebraska pipeline company. In the process of the merger, Enron incurred massive debt and, as the result of deregulation, no longer had exclusive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ancient Greek Trabeated System The trabeated system, otherwise known as post and lintel, was one of the most important systematic principles used by ancient Greek architects. The way the structures were designed was by two vertical columns or posts holding up an horizontal architrave. Architects used this technique to support the weight of the architrave above openings. The trabeated system, not only used in ancient Greece, was also seen throughout prehistoric architecture as far back as the stone age. Stonehenge, assumed to be finished in 1500 B.C., is one of the most iconic architectural structures in the history of the world. Built in the Stone age, this monumental structure was advanced for its time. It was assumed to be a burial site for the Aristocrats of the time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roofing in the Ontario region is an unregulated industry. It is important to select certified roofers who will be in business to honour their warranty in the future. Does the contractor use subcontractors? Subcontractors are often paid on a per job basis, which can result in poor workmanship as the job is completed as fast as possible. Does the company supply a written contract and estimate (and do they require a deposit)? All job specifications and prices should be supplied in writing. Established companies with strong financial stability usually do not require a deposit. Deposits are common, be wary of any contractor requesting more than 1/3 of the cost of the project. • 8. The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose of the study was to assess the safety of non inflammatory drugs to treat cardiovascular disease (BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study s 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofenreduced risk of worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack. Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users. Long term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen enriched blood, which may result in heart failure. All of our middle school teachers always told us about how our high school teachers wont hold our hands and how we will be on our own. • 10. Stephen King The Shining Theme The Shining, by Stephen King, is a classic piece of American literature. Published in 1977, the story focuses on the Torrance family, and their horrific adventure at the Overlook Hotel. Taking place in 1975 in the mountains of Colorado, the story takes a terrible turn towards death after Jack Torrance, the father of the family, begins being taken over by the evil spirits that lurk in the hotel, and essentially loses his mind. Jack begins expressing aggressive behavior and threatens to hurt his family. In the end, he not only threatens, but actually attempts to kill his five year old son, Danny, and his wife, Wendy. The orientation of the story around the family produces the theme of the novel, that inner demons and fears can destroy us. • 11. Anxiety In Italo Calvino s The Nonexistent Knight Reflective statement. During our discussion, many aspects of Agilulf s personality were brought up. This caused me to think more deeply on his character. The things I realized made me compare him to myself and I drew several comparisons between his behavior and my generalized anxiety. He seemed to have a more defined anxiety though, which I soon concluded was most likely social anxiety due to his problems communicating. Title: Depression and anxiety in Italo Calvino s The Nonexistent Knight In Italo Calvino s The Nonexistent Knight the main character, Agilulf, is a disembodied knight in Charlemagne s army who is often at odds with his fellow knights due to his perfectionism. He also seems to be more confident in himself before Charlemagne cuts him off for his name being too long winded and tells him that he will never remember it. This could be the incident that set off Agilulf s anxiety and depression, along with his unwillingness to start conversations. Often times sufferers of social anxiety have a defining moment in their childhoods or adolescence which shuts them off from the world, making them distrusting of others and unable to confidently speak with others, although this is not always the case. We are not free to say anything we please about God. Although scripture is not the only source that helps us to recognize divine activity in the world, it cannot be ignored if we intend to speak of the Holy One of Israel. (2)The doctrine of God in black theology must be of the God who is participating in the liberation of the oppressed of the land. This hermeneutical principle arises out of the first. Because God has been revealed in the history of oppressed Israel and decisively in the Oppressed One, Jesus Christ. It is impossible to say anything about God without seeing him as being involved in the contemporary liberation of all oppressed people. In this paper we define different matrices associated with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of rank of an incidence matrix. Key Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph. INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence matrix B associated with graph G of order nГ—m is defined by b_ij={в–€(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0 Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph without any difficulty. • 16. Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado The American Romantic/ Gothic period was basically the Renaissance of American literature. American romantics were influenced by eras that before them, and their writings were a different reaction against the philosophy of the previous eras. With this being said, American Romanticism grew from salvation, and guilt, as they excitedly developed their own unique style of writing. American romantic authors had a strong sense of general identity and pride in being American. For this reason, American authors during this time had a discrete desire to develop their own unique character separate from British literature. In order to accomplish this goal, the poet Edgar Allan Poe was rebellious and personal in his writing; and this explains the extraordinary creativity found throughout his work. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique and dark form writing style the mysterious style of writing showed emotion and drama. He used the themes of Gothic, death of the women he loved, and good vs. evil. These forms of writing styles are shown in The Cask of Amontillado , The Raven , and Tell Tale Heart. It demonstrates all the major aspects of the American Romantic revolution: rejection of classicism, eager naivety, and unusual detachment regarding time and space. This painted the Africans as pure savages without truly examining what drove them to commit these violent acts. Europeans have always bent history to show themselves in a positive manner. One of the battles in which history has been mainly one sided is the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya. In this paper I want to explore the true reasons the revolt started and how the European interpretations of this took away from the real reasons why ordinary people took part. By seeing what was used in portraying a negative image, I will try to break down what were the events leading up to it and what hand did the British play. Examining events that took place after the war had been won by the British. By comparing and contrasting I will show the double standards and the importance of consistently questioning history and media. The Mau Mau uprising is said to have started the course of independence for Kenya. Although the movement started way before, the official date of the uprising is from 1952 through 1960 .It started with the Kikuyu people in Central Kenya. As the Mau Mau group grew larger it became more and more violent. Killing not only the Europeans but also anyone suspected of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Essay on Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 Analysis of Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 Sonnet 20 appears to be about an affectionate love that the speaker develops for an unnamed man. He describes the man as having a woman s face that Nature painted with its own hand. The speaker calls this admired person his master mistress. He goes on to say that this man has the gentle heart of a woman but is not inconsistent as is the way with women. He has eyes that are brighter than the eyes of any women. His eyes are so true and sincere that they light up every object that they look upon. He is a man of shape and form (and of authority) and all other figures are in his control. Furthermore, he steals the attention of men and amazes the hearts of women. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although during the Renaissance, the friendships between men were usually openly affectionate, Sonnet 20 reveals a homosexual desire that the poet seems to be obsessed with. The Shakespearean sonnet does not follow the ideal form of an iambic pentameter. Shakespeare plays with this poem and deliberately stretches each line so that all fourteen lines end with an eleventh syllable. The feet have been marked and each line is left with an extra syllable at the end. Shakespeare was well aware of the iambic pentameter in writing his poems. Therefore, each feet is unstressed stressed. Stressing the last syllable of each sentence shows the significance of that last word and its meaning. In this case, each word at the end of every line ends in an unstressed syllable. To keep the model of an iambic pentameter, the short syllables at the end of each line has been omitted. Most feet follows the iambic form. However, there are few that do not because a poet cannot change the way a word is normally pronounced. For example, Hast thou is a trochee but quickly preceding it is an iambic, which, once again, keeps with the traditional form (line 2). The same holds true in this next example. Mine be appears to be a spondee but that pattern breaks with the next feet of an iambic (line 6). On the other hand, Sonnet 20 does follow the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main character breaks the forth wall, a method that dismisses the common film making practice of the time, mirroring the rebellious nature once again. The French New Wave genre strived to go against the aspects of Hollywood professionalism of other films, and Godard does so in many of his works. In Breathless, as the camera focuses on the main character, he looks right back and speaks to the audience. This technique allows the story to progress through as the main character narrates. Apart from jump cutting, Godard uses documentary style cinematography to differ from the sporadic effects of his editing. The film s cinematography is captured in a hand held like manner, creating a sense of realism. Essay Colonization Across the Globe Colonization Across the Globe After Christopher Columbus landed in the West Indies in 1492, Spain and Portugal started disputing areas of influence on the South American continent. The dispute was eventually settled by the Pope (Alexander VI), who in 1493, drew up defined areas of influence for the two nations with the idea of spreading Christianity to the natives in those territories. In time the Portuguese territory became known as Brazil, hence the working language of that country to this day is Portuguese, while most of the rest of the continent speaks Spanish. The Aztecs were by all accounts cruel masters over other local tribes, with the result that some of the subjected peoples actually welcomed the arrival of the Spanish. A few of these tribes would physically help the Spanish invaders against the Aztecs. The Aztec religion was one of the reasons why there was so much resentment amongst the Amerind tribes: it demanded daily human sacrifice and most of the victims for this sacrifice were seized from surrounding Amerind tribes by the Aztecs. The Aztec religion also played a major role in destabilizing Aztec resistance to the white invaders: one of their gods was a plumed serpent named Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind and learning. According to Aztec legend, Quetzalcoatl had been tricked and disgraced by another god, Tezcatlipoca, and then travelled to the east. He vowed to return and destroy those who worshipped his enemies, accompanied by all powerful white skinned gods. By the time of the Spanish assault in 1519, word of the arrival of the whites, with their plumed helmets, in the Caribbean Sea had travelled to the Aztecs, triggering the widely held superstition that an angry Quetzalcoatl and his white skinned gods had indeed returned to exact revenge. This fear created confusion in the Aztec camp: should they attack the newcomers, who might be the avenging god, or should they try and appease them? This hesitancy to act was exploited by the Spanish invaders. In May 1521, the city of Tenochtitlan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It starts out with a young kid in a slumber, and it ends with a mourning of a beloved pet. This shift that John Crowe Ransom creates shows just how drastic this step in life was. Since the story is told from a father s point of view, we get to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how young and undeveloped her mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author is trying to convey. Throughout the poem, the poet carefully picks and constructs words and sentences that perfectly give the poem life and meaning. Firstly, the name of the hen is Chucky. The words suffered, epithet, and humiliating, were strategically placed at points in Catt s essay to add emphasis to her many emotional appeals to her. This all took place in the south on May 4, 1961, the volunteers black and white were known as the freedom rider. These volunteers were brought in with the help of Martin Luther King Jr., CORE (The Congress of Racial Equality), and the SNCC ( The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). There were more than a thousand freedom riders involved, the freedom riders were to see if their freedom of segregation on buses and trains in the south was being met. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered one of the most well known speeches known today. Martin s I Have a Dream speech talks to the people about equality and racial justice. The day before his speech Martin Luther King Jr., Wyatt Walker and others, helped Martin get in a state to write his speech. Wyatt Walker actually advised Martin to not use his I Have a Dream speech. Wyatt s explanation was that King had used, I Have a Dream in many other speeches prior to this one, he thought it would be to much. Martin agreed he knew this speech had to be different. This was the first time he was going to speak to a whole civil rights group. The event was a big deal because it was going to be shown on all three television networks live. Kings staff offered multiple different opinions and suggestions about the speech. Yet, King was still not sure what he was going to do. He told his staff I am now going upstairs to my room to counsel with my Lord. (Younge ) King finished the speech, but I Have a Dream was not in the speech. So as King began to say his speech he began to rally the a people, and then one of King s friends Mahalia Jackson cried out from behind him, Tell em about the dream, Martin. (Younge ) Mahalia was a very close relationship with King she was the one he would call for some gospel musical therapy. (Younge ) One of the most well known titles for a speech, wasn t even written in the final draft. This shows how passionate King felt towards this movement, It also shows how his own thinking impacted the people. A couple weeks after King gave his speech on September 15, 1963 there was a bombing at a church, that killed four young black girls (Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole ... • 42. UBI To Combat Economic Inequality The dominant in group of men have subjected women to a minority out group. This separation has caused unequal treatment, double standards, and stereotypes, which all help keep women in a state of economic inequality. In order for women to experience equality, men most lose some of their power and share it with women. Although, many men would love women to have more economic freedom, they do not want it to come at the cost of their power. Therefore, inter group conflict occurs. Another in group and intergroup dynamic, which is taking place, is between the rich and the poor. A Pew Research Center survey of 2,048 adults finds that about two thirds of the public (66%) believes there are very strong or strong conflicts between the rich and... Be sure to integrate what you find with what you are learning in your text and other readings and supplement it with additional research. The preamble of the US Constitution directs the Federal Government to promote the general welfare .... secure the blessings of liberty . ..and protect ourselves and our posterity . When thinking about our obligation to protect the environment (e.g., plants, animals, habitat, ecosystem services), can a case be made that we are constitutionally bound to do so based on the quotes I gave you? What do you think? If so, how does that play into our responsibility to conserve and restore the environment? If not, why not? For this week s forum, after searching for wetlands restoration, I found a local wetlands restoration project that was completed in November 2011 and encompassed an area of 150 acres. The San Dieguito Wetland Restoration Project included the coastal area of San Dieguito Lagoon and the San Dieguito River Park estuarine and riverine wetland systems, respectively which serve an important role in the local ecology. They provide a stop for birds along the Pacific Flyway, nesting and foraging areas for endangered species and serve as a fish hatchery. The basis for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Act Of Thecla Essay The Acts of Thecla describes Thecla s trials and journey as she becomes Christian; this was written by the author as a way of emphasizing the importance of women s roles in Christianity. Compared to the other women protagonists that were read about in class, Penthesileia and Judith, Thecla is passive for a heroine. The author of The Acts of Thecla has a contrasting view of women in Christianity when compared to other Christians in the first two centuries of the Common Era. Having a femaleprotagonist is important to The Acts of Thecla because the trials she faced were specific to her role as a female. Thecla is sentenced to be burned at the stake after refusing to marry Thamyris. Refusing to get to married to your betrothed was seen as breaking a contract. When Thecla is on the pyre being prepared to burn she sees something. And looking over the crowd, she saw the Lord sitting in the form of Paul and said, As if I were not able to bear up, Paul has come to look after me. And she looks intently at him, by he took off into the heavens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And when she had given this witness she headed off to Seleucia, and after enlightening many with the word of God, she slept with a fine sleep. (Thecla, 43). This is a finalization of Thecla s life. This could have ended with Thecla getting married proving that women aren t strong enough to preach the word of God. Instead it ends with her having reached the end of her life never breaking her celibacy and preaching the word of God. This gives an insight into the author s mind and that they believed women had a role as missionaries in Christianity. This view is different from the majority of Christians during the Common Era. Let women learn in silence with full submissions. (1 Timothy 5:3). Women were supposed to be there, but not heard. They were not expected to speak. • 45. Essay On The Bauhaus The Bauhaus was set up in 1919 in Weimar by Walter Gropius (1883 1969). In 1925, the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau, where a new building is designed by Gropius. In this essay, I am going to discuss about the opinions made by many writers on Gropius s mindset and intention in building the new Bauhaus. The architectural aspects and interior space planning of the Bauhaushave become the identifications of the modernist architecture as well as legend in the history of design and design education. [The Bauhaus Reassessed] What unique about the Bauhaus is the fact that its ideologies epitomize changing concepts concerning the nature and purpose of design in the early twentieth century. The art inherited reinterpreted and then rejected the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gropius traces the growth of the New Architecture and the work of the now well known Bauhaus, with accuracy, calls for a new artist and architect educated to new materials and approaches as well as meeting the requirements of the age. It is also mentioned in The New Architecture and the Bauhaus that the intention of the Bauhaus was not to reproduce any style , system or belief, but simply to exert a revitalizing impact on design. Even though the outward forms of the New Architecture differ primarily in an organic sense from the old, it is the inevitable logical product of the intellectual, social and technical conditions of our age. A gap has been made with the past, allowing us to face a new aspect of architecture corresponding to the technical civilization of the age we live in. The analysis of the dead styles has been destroyed. Furthermore, the new building throws open the walls like curtains to allow an abundance of fresh air, daylight and sunshine. Lystra stood as soon as the explosion dissipated. Running towards the sound of fire, she soon saw a crowd surrounding the Phoenix. Grabbing one of the extinguishers near a pile of supplies, Lystra pulled the tab and threw it into the flames. Smoke engulfed the entire area immediately, and made easy access to the ship as Lystra skirted around the crowd of humans and Tareelians alike. It was probably one of the ones who wanted to have her locked up after the Tareelians announced the surprise to see a Mech still among humans. All of these databases were chosen because they provided up to date peer reviewed evidence that was relevant to the search terms. This ensures that the evidence that was found was relevant and reliable. The Cinahl website was useful to gather background information on the topic such as how a UTI is contracted and how it effects the body. The Cochrane Library and Medline website was useful to because it gave specific information on studies that had already been done by other researchers. This helped to ensure that the study that is being undertaken was searching for the right results. Types of Evidence The five types of evidence that have been secured when researching are as follows. The pieces of evidence are in numerical order, where 1 is the strongest evidence found and 4 is the weakest. 1. Craig, JC., Jepson, RG., Mihaljevic, L., (1998) Craig, Jepson, Mihaljevic provided a clear and understandable analysis of the use of cranberries in the treatment of UTI s. Their evidence shows that the use of cranberry capsules when the person knows that they may receive a UTI (in surgical catheters) reduces the contractibility by half. This evidence was relevant to the PICO question. The analysis was found in the database of systematic reviews. 2. Arbor, A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The set had many different illustrations that gave a good effect. The actors had plenty of room and not for one minute did the set the stage looked squashed claustrophobic. The stage was also set out in a circle where the audience would sit around the stage and the actors would perform while being surrounded by the audience. Another great sound was when Darren was about to burn the scorcher; the music gave suspense and was very dramatic. 2. There many different things I liked about the play. Firstly where the sound affects because they added dramatic irony and where sometimes amusing. Secondly was the scorcher itself because it was painted well and was very eye catching. Published in the Fourth Assessment, Working Group I identified notable understanding of noticeable human induced climate change and current Greenhouse Gas data. One of the most notable points from this publication was the changes in temperature and sea level from 1961 to 1990. As seen in the figure below (Changes, 2007), surface temperature is rising, average sea level is rising, and snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere is dropping. When comparing the data with previous centuries using the Paleoclimatic Perspective, it is noted that this change is rather unusual and has not been observed to have occurred previously.
