Strategies for Creating Work-Life Balance
Facilitator: Kelly Howarth, M. Ed., Dpl. Ad. Ed.
A particular challenge we face is that of maintaining that delicate and healthy balance between the need to
feel competent and be productive in achieving our professional work goals and maintaining a happy and
healthy personal life based on making time for the things we love—family, hobbies and time for ourselves.
Workplaces are becoming increasingly aware of the need for greater flexibility and acknowledge the family
issues impacting work. While technology is supposed to make our lives easier, it sometimes dictates our
lives and the use of our free time. What strategies can we apply?
In this interactive 75-minute workshop we will explore strategies for creating, achieving and maintaining a
healthy work-life balance.
Session Highlights
• Work-Life Balance: Is it really possible? Do what you love and
love what you do
• Case studies in work-life balance
• Small-group activity: brainstorming and creating a plan for
greater work-life balance
• Flexibility: What the workplace can do
• Open discussion
• Reflection and Wrap-up (Evaluation)
This workshop is for teachers, administrators and support staff seeking to apply effective strategies in
order to make time for the things they love, while feeling competent in their professional lives.
